About the project

We upgraded and modernised Upwey High School over three stages.

We opened the multipurpose building in March 2020. The building includes, a competition-grade gymnasium with four courts, administration wing and performing art facilities with recording space. The wider community can use these facilities outside of school hours. This was funded in the 2017–18 State Budget.

In stage two, we built an art, science, and technology building and demolished the old stadium. This was funded in the 2018–19 State Budget.

We completed two building refurbishments. They included:

  • refurbishing the former administration area to become a new learning support area
  • refurbishing Block C to include a new home economics and technology wing.

In the 2016–17 State Budget, $12 million was allocated to schools across the state for planning. This includes funding for Upwey High School. In the 2017–18 State Budget, $10 million was allocated to the school. In the 2018–19 State Budget, the school received $13.9 million to complete Stage 2 of the school master plan. In the 2019-20 State Budget, the school received $2.7 million.

Impressive New Sporting And Arts Facilities For Upwey High

Students and the wider community can now enjoy new first-rate performing arts and sports facilities at Upwey High School, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Education James Merlino today visited the school to officially open its new multipurpose building, which includes a competition-grade gymnasium featuring four basketball courts, impressive new performing arts spaces and administration wing.

The new facilities will also be enjoyed by the wider hills community. This includes the Sherbrooke Amateur Basketball Association using the four court gym and the creation of a new home at the Dandenong Ranges Music Council.

The Labor Government has invested $26.8 million to modernise and upgrade Upwey High School since 2016.

Students and staff can look forward to further upgrades, with the school’s old stadium to be demolished and replaced with a science, technology and arts centre, set to open in 2021. Existing buildings are also being refurbished as part of the works.

The Labor Government is building the Education State so that every student can access a great local school and education.

It has invested $6.1 billion to deliver more than 1,400 school upgrades, supporting more than 7,500 construction jobs, and committed to opening 100 new schools by 2026 to ensure all families have access to a great local school.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Education James Merlino

“It is wonderful to see this impressive new building open at Upwey High School, giving staff and students the modern facilities they deserve.”

“With these new sporting and performing arts spaces not just to be enjoyed by students but the wider community Upwey High School will become an even greater community hub.”

Frequently Asked Questions

When should my child start prep.

To start primary school your child will need to turn five years of age by 30 April of the year that they start school. Your child must be at school in the year that they turn six years of age – this is the compulsory school starting age.

I live outside of the designated school zone. Can I have a tour of your school?

Neighbourhood Zones were introduced by the Department of Education and Training (DET) at the commencement of 2020, in order to balance enrolments across geographical areas.

With particular reference to Upwey South Primary School, the demographics within our designated zone allow for our school to accept a certain number of enrolments each year who reside  outside of our zone .

Given the high demand for enrolments across our school, families who reside outside of our designated school zone are encouraged to promptly make contact with the school , and are welcome to attend a school tour.

To book a private tour of the school please contact us on 03 9757 0200.

School Zones:

Our school zone is available on   findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria. As you will view from this website, almost 70% of the designated zone is green-wedge land; therefore allowing for out of zone enrolments as referenced above.

Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.

Our school manages enrolments using the  Placement Policy  to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.

Will my child be paired with a buddy (learning mentor) when they begin schooling?

In short, the answer is Yes.

Upwey South Primary School is an inclusive and supportive community. Each student who joins our school (Year One- Year Six) is set up with a series of buddies from across their year level. These buddies help them out with the day-to-day happenings of the school, such as recess breaks, locating learning tools, and a physical orientation of the school.

Each Foundation student is paired with a Year Five student who they meet with once a week during dedicated ‘Learning Mentor’ sessions, which are supervised by classroom teachers.

How many students are at your school?

As a school of choice for the area, we carefully manage our enrolment base so that we remain at ~275 students. This allows for multiple extra-curricular programs to be offered, whilst still maintaining a personal and community-orientated learning environment.

How many classes are there at Upwey South Primary School?

We have 12 classes of students:

  • 2 Foundation (Prep) classes
  • 2 Year One classes
  • 2 Year Two classes
  • 3 Year Three/Four classes
  • 3 Year Five/Six classes

What specialist classes do you offer?

Our specialist program includes a mix of languages, arts, performing arts and physical education. You can read more about these here .

What co-curricular activities are available for my child to participate in?

There is full range of activities and clubs that appeal to a wide variety of student interests including singing, music, sport, academia and culture. You can read more about these here .

When is the closing date for enrolments?

You may enrol at any time throughout the year.

For Foundation enrolments, we request for you to please submit your enrolment by July of the year prior to your child commencing school. This will assist our school in planning for future staffing needs.

Scottie Scheffler impressed by high school freshman, old soul Miles Russell

The 15-year-old is ready for his next korn ferry tour start at the veritex bank championship.

Change Text Size

“There’s something about listening to the contact you make when you hit a good one; you've got to know what that sounds like,” Russell said Wednesday at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Veritex Bank Championship, having finished T20 at last week’s LECOM Suncoast Classic to qualify. “When you have AirPods, you can't hear that.”

Competing in his professional event of any kind, Russell made history as the youngest to make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour (15 years, 5 months, 18 days) – then became the youngest to top-25 on either the TOUR or Korn Ferry Tour on record (since at least 1983). Turning pro is far from Russell’s mind – he’s a high school freshman after all – but his past week could fit on the Disney Channel, a kid thriving in an adult world.

Russell finished the LECOM at 14-under 270, on the line for the top-25 without any margin for error, validating his sponsor exemption and then some. It led the left-handed Floridian to this week’s Korn Ferry Tour stop in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, where the show goes on.

“It’s definitely been a wild ride. It’s been fun too,” Russell said Wednesday. “Earning something, it feels better than getting the exemption almost, because you know what you practiced for and what you kind of live for, and that's what you did.”

Last week, Russell was a curiosity. This week he’s a known commodity. He arrived at the LECOM Suncoast Classic with abundant accolades in junior golf – namely, the youngest AJGA Boys Player of the Year (2023) since Tiger Woods – but without a case study of how his well-rounded game translated to the professional level. The verdict after rounds of 66-68-70-68: It held up just fine.

That meant another Korn Ferry Tour start this week at Texas Rangers Golf Club, where Scottie Scheffler holds the course record (59) set during a “Wolf” game with friends on May 3, 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic hiatus. Russell was comfortable in a practice round with veteran pro Sam Saunders (the two also played a practice round at the LECOM), expressing appreciation for the support he has received from pros – while also maintaining the confidence that has led him to success early in his Korn Ferry Tour foray.

That mix of self-belief and skill could put him on an eventual crash course with Scheffler, the world No. 1 who spent some time with Russell ahead of THE PLAYERS Championship last month. Scheffler was impressed with the top-ranked junior’s humility and understated nature.

“Seemed like a nice kid. Seemed like a humble kid,” Scheffler said after winning the RBC Heritage. “One of the guys in the practice round we were playing with (at THE PLAYERS) asked him, what are you doing here, and he was there because he had won the Junior PLAYERS, and he just kind of paused, and he's like, ‘Oh, I'm just watching today,’ or said something like that. It wasn't like, ‘Hey, I won this tournament and did that.’ It seemed to me like he had a really good attitude.”

After making bogey on the 72nd hole at the LECOM, Russell didn’t think his 14-under total would hold up for the top 25. (Having entered the final round in 48th place, he finished roughly three-and-a-half hours ahead of the leaders). By the time he arrived back home in Jacksonville Beach around 8 p.m. Sunday, though, it was official: he had earned a spot at the Veritex Bank. So he did some laundry – “washer that night and dryer in the morning,” he said Wednesday – and left for the airport at 10:45 a.m. Monday, embarking on this next adventure.

Last week’s TOUR winners were aware of Russell’s feat. The operative word: impressive .

“It's pretty impressive,” said Billy Horschel, winner at the Corales Puntacana Championship. “I mean, I wasn't that good at 15 by a long shot and I couldn't imagine playing in a Tour event and let alone making a cut and then finishing top 25. I think it's pretty impressive. Obviously, he's mature beyond his years and what he's accomplished at such a young age … I think it's pretty impressive.”

“To be able to show up at a professional tournament when you're only 15 and make the cut is pretty impressive,” concurred Scheffler, who missed the LECOM Suncoast Classic cut in his lone tournament appearance in 2019.

Miles Russell, 15, discusses final-round 66 at LECOM Suncoast Classic

Russell was asked in Wednesday’s virtual press conference if he has given thought to turning pro anytime soon. Not at all, he said – he knows he can’t join a TOUR-sanctioned circuit until age 18 anyway. There’s power in living in the now, and that’s what Russell intends to do this week.

“It's the same goals as last week,” Russell said. “Just try to put the first and second round, two good rounds together and see where that puts us compared to the cut, and if we make the cut, just try to go and have two more good rounds and see where that puts us.”

Spoken like someone who has done this before.

PHILADELPHIA— Livingston junior Jessica Oji went through a long eight months of rehab to get to this moment.

Just a month after winning top American honors in the shot put last year, Oji tore her ACL at a meet in May 2023, which prevented her from competing at groups and Meet of Champions. Her return date was supposed to be March or April, which would’ve meant a long road back to becoming the thrower that she was.

Rolling Stones members Ronnie Wood (L), Mick Jagger and Keith Richards rock out in concert.

The Rolling Stones have decided who will “Start Them Up” on tour this year.

However, unlike most tours, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are mixing things up and bringing different opening acts to each city they’re hitting on the spring and summer  ‘The Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds.’

Just a few of the big names joining them include Gary Clark Jr. ( April 28 in Houston ), Joe Bonamassa ( May 15 in Seattle ), Tyler Childers ( June 3 in Orlando ), KALEO ( June 11 in Philadelphia ) and Lainey Wilson ( June 30 in Chicago ).

As for their MetLife Stadium gigs, pop-soul outfit Lawrence is slated to kick things off at their Sunday, May 26 concert ; no opener has been announced for the Thursday, May 23 show .

And if you’ve been on the fence about catching Mick, Keith and Ronnie live because you fear exorbitant ticket prices, we’re happy to report that some shows have cheaper seats available than one might imagine.

At the time of publication, the lowest price we found on tickets was just $21 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Yes, you read that right. Just $21. We couldn’t believe it either.

Other nights have seats starting anywhere from $44 to $109 before fees (excluding festival dates).

Curious how much tickets cost and who will be opening for the Stones at the show nearest you this year?

While we can’t guarantee we’ll give you what you want, we promise you’ll get what you need.

Our team has all the details you’re looking for and more about the Rolling Stones’ 2024 ‘Hackney Diamonds Tour’ below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Rolling Stones tour schedule 2024

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, opening acts and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

New Orleans Jazz Festival 2024

The musically diverse New Orleans Jazz Festival — they don’t do just jazz, contrary to popular belief — returns to the Big Easy on April 25-28 and May 2-5 next year.

At the two-weekend fest, Mick and co. will be joined by fellow Rock Hall of Famers Neil Young , Earth Wind and Fire , Heart , The Beach Boys and Foo Fighters .

Rolling Stones openers on tour

Many of the big names joining the Stones on the road have quite a few more shows lined up this year.

The Rolling Stones set list

This 16-concert run will be the group’s first official North American trek since 2019’s ‘No Filter Tour,’ which concluded two years later due to COVID-related postponements.

Here’s what the band played at their last run, courtesy of  Set List FM .

01.) “Street Fighting Man” 02.) “Let’s Spend the Night Together” 03.) “19th Nervous Breakdown” 04.) “Tumbling Dice” 05.) “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” 06.) “Living in a Ghost Town” 07.) “Start Me Up” 08.) “Honky Tonk Women” 09.) “Connection” 10.) “Slipping Away” 11.) “Miss You” 12.) “Midnight Rambler” 13.) “Paint It Black” 14.) “Sympathy for the Devil” 15.) “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”

16.) “Gimme Shelter”

17.) “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”

Most recently, the band surprised New Yorkers when they performed a set at  Racket  in the Meatpacking District with Lady Gaga.

You can find their seven-song set list from the October 2023 one-off show  here .

The Rolling Stones new music

On Oct. 20, the Stones released their 26th American studio album,  “Hackney Diamonds,”  featuring special guests Paul McCartney, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.

Comprised of 12 hard-rocking tracks that wouldn’t be out of place alongside their singalong stadium anthems of yore, “Diamonds” shows that Mick, Keith and Ronnie still have their sticky fingers on rock and roll’s pulse.

“We wouldn’t have put this album out if we didn’t really like it,” Jagger, 80, told Jimmy Fallon. “We must say that we are quite pleased with it. We’re not big-headed but we hope you like it.”

If you’re looking to sample the record, we suggest starting with the fierce lead track “Angry” and the wistful ballad “Dreamy Skies.”

Prefer to listen in full? You can find “Hackney Diamonds”  here .

No joke — the upcoming tour is sponsored by AARP.

Georgia Recruiting Tour - Spring Practice Kicks Off For Biggest Prospects

Georgia Recruiting Tour - Spring Practice Kicks Off For Biggest Prospects

  • Author: Brooks Austin

Every spring, I set out to see as many high school football prospects as this great state of Georgia provides as I possibly can. Here are my thoughts, notes, and experiences from the 2024 trail.

The State of Georgia is not short of football talent or resources. At the conclusion of the 2023 NFL season, there were 136 players from the state of Georgia. It's become the place to be not only during the fall when looking for football talent, but it's perhaps even more paramount to be out on the trail during the spring time for college programs looking to land Peachstate products.

Here in Georgia, spring practices involve ten practices and a scrimmage against either yourself or an opponent. For comparison, in California, they can't put the pads on until August. So, during this time every year, I set out to see as many high school football programs in this great state as I possibly can. These are the stories from the road. Enjoy.

2. Jones County Perhaps the home of speed in the state of Georgia, Jones County has an annual handful of sub-11.0 second 100-meter runners. It was the first day of pads at Jones County this spring, the first day in fact. That didn't stop them from SIX team periods during the two-hour practice. It was fast, it was physical, and it was not for the timid. Safety Javion Butts will not practice this spring, but the UNC commit is extremely impressive, standing 6'1, 190 pounds he looks every bit of a Power4 commit. I spoke to him about other schools, and he mentioned how locked in to UNC he is currently. As for the rest of the Jones County roster, linebacker Zacari Thomas looked shot out of a cannon all day. I expect a massive spring for Thomas, hard for me to believe he remains a Group of Five offered player like he currently is for much longer. In fact, sources in the SEC have expressed interest... he's currently being evaluated. ATH, Jaivon Solomon plays both defensive back and receiver, though he projects much more as a receiver, in my opinion. He tracks and attacks the ball well, is a smooth route runner, and has the frame to add weight in college. As for the "I can't believe it" category... DJ Ingram is a 6'2, 205-pound, multi-year starter for Jones County and has tremendous traits and tape with currently ZERO offers, that will change. DJ Ingram's Highlight Tape

2025 LB, DJ Ingram Currently Holds ZERO offers.

2025 LB, DJ Ingram Currently Holds ZERO offers.

1. Jonesboro An (8-4) football team in 6A a year ago, the Jonesboro football program is not short of talent. They are not short of players with major offers, particularly their junior defensive back group. DL, Jeremiah Ticket, DB, Cortez Redding, LB, Jerimia Collier, DB, Jamar Owens, and DB Jontavious Wyman all hold division one offers. I left impressed with 2026 corner Jamar Owens and 2025 DL Jeremiah Ticket. Owens is a 6'1, 190-pound corner with tremendous length and athleticism, it should be a massive spring and summer for Ownes with regards to offers from some of the biggest programs like potentially Georgia and Ohio State where he's expected to camp soon. As for Ticket, Ticket is originally from Alaska and has only been playing football for about two seasons now, and boy is he athletic at his size. I was simply blown away by his movement skills at his size.

I’m keeping tabs on @JeremiahTicket7 6’3, 270 pounds relatively new to football. Big joker from Alaska originally. Think he’s just scratching the surface. pic.twitter.com/7RD4hLmB36 — Brooks Austin (@BrooksAustinBA) April 24, 2024
