How to Book Group Tickets on IRCTC: A Step-by-Step Guide

Booking group tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) can seem like a daunting task, but fear not! With a little know-how and some insider tips, you’ll be booking group tickets at the drop of a hat.

Illustration of a diverse group of people participating in the process of booking group train tickets via the IRCTC website, highlighting the ease and convenience of group travel arrangements.

Understanding IRCTC Group Booking

First things first, let’s clear the air about what group booking on IRCTC entails. In my opinion, it’s an incredibly efficient way to organize travel for a large number of people. Whether you’re planning a family reunion, a corporate outing, or a school trip, IRCTC’s group booking feature can be a lifesaver.

Step 1: Planning Ahead

  • Determine Your Group Size : Know the exact number of people traveling. Remember, a group usually consists of more than 10 people.
  • Select Your Travel Dates : Picking your dates well in advance can avoid the last-minute rush and disappointment.
  • Decide the Itinerary : Have a clear idea of your departure and arrival stations.

Step 2: Filling Out the Application

  • Download the Application Form : Visit the official IRCTC website and download the ‘Group Booking Request Form.’
  • Complete the Form : Fill in all the required details such as travel dates, route, and passenger details.

Step 3: Submission and Confirmation

  • Submit the Form : You can submit the form at the nearest railway reservation office.
  • Wait for Approval : Group bookings require approval from the railway authorities. Patience is key here!

Step 4: Payment and Ticket Collection

  • Make the Payment : Once approved, you’ll be informed about the payment, which can be completed at the reservation office.
  • Collect Your Tickets : After payment, collect your group tickets and get ready for your journey!

Tips and Tricks

  • Book Early : Group bookings on IRCTC are a bit like catching fish – the early bird gets the worm. Booking well in advance increases your chances of getting confirmed tickets.
  • Double-Check Details : A minor error can send you back to the drawing board. Ensure all details are accurate.
  • Keep an Eye on Quotas : There are certain quotas like the Tourist Quota which can be beneficial for group travel.

Booking group tickets via IRCTC doesn’t have to be a Herculean task. With careful planning and attention to detail, you can navigate this process smoothly. Always remember to check the latest guidelines on the IRCTC website, as policies and procedures may change. Safe travels!

Our combined Moscow tours and St. Petersburg tours will leave you with unforgettable memories of Russia's most interesting and important cities. The greatest museums, monuments and other highlights are located in these two cities. Start discovering Russia in vibrant and expressive Moscow and continue on to St. Petersburg, the splendid 'Northern Venice' considered by many to be the most beautiful city in Europe. Saint-Petersburg was the Tsarist capital of the Russian empire for more than two hundred years, until the capital was moved back to Moscow in 1918. Explore the difference between both of these beautiful and exciting cities.

Day 1, Moscow

The Bolshoy Theatre, Moscow, Russia

Arrival in Moscow, our representative will meet you at the airport. Arrival transfer without guide. Accommodation at your hotel.

Moscow is the capital and the largest city in Russia as well as the largest metropolitan area in Europe with a population well over 10 million. This amazing city has served as the capital of the Soviet Union, the Russian Empire and the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Moscow has had a tumultuous history dating back to medieval times when it was founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruki (Yuri of the Long Arms, known for the length of his arms!) in the early 12th century. It has seen numerous invasions and sieges from the Mongols to the Poles and Lithuanians to the Crimean Tatars to Napoleon and finally the Nazi's but it has persevered and today is a thriving metropolis. The city is filled with unique architecture from the Kremlin and Red Square to giant Stalin skyscrapers to new office blocks built during the economic boom of recent years and it contains a strikingly beautiful metro system. The city is the center of political as well as economic power in Russia and visitors can feel the energy in the streets. There is always something going on in Moscow and there is so much to see. Your tour will give you valuable insights into Russia's history, its art and most importantly its culture and people. Welcome to Moscow, we are sure you will have an unforgettable stay with us!

Day 2, Moscow

Moscow city, Moscow, Russia

09:30 Our guide will meet you at the hotel's reception desk. Excursion outside of Moscow to Gorki Leninskie, lunch included. In the afternoon you will have a 3-hour city sightseeing tour with photo stops, no entrances included.

Gorky Leninskiye  is an architectural and park ensemble dating back to the 18 th and 19 th centuries. The estate changed owners several times before it was nationalized in 1918, after the revolution. At that time, the neoclassical mansion, the heart of the ensemble, was turned into a sanatorium for the higher echelons of the Bolshevik Party. The estate became especially famous due to the fact that Lenin spent the last ten months of his life here with his wife and siblings. After his death, the estate was turned into a museum and it was extremely popular with Soviet citizens until the fall of the Soviet Union.

Day 3, Moscow

Kremlin

Tour of the Moscow Kremlin grounds and Armory (time of visit to be specified by the guide), in the afternoon enjoy a visit to Moscow’s metro system and a walking tour of the Old Arbat street

The Kremlin is a fascinating structure, it is an ancient tower, the city's former military fortification, a palace, an armory, the sovereign treasury and the workplace of the Russian President. The Kremlin is the center of Russia's political life and State power and has been home to Tsars, General Secretaries of the Soviet Union and Russian Presidents. The Kremlin has always been the spiritual centre of Russia. You will see several ancient cathedrals on its territory the most famous of which are the  Assumption Cathedral , the Archangel's Cathedral and the Annunciation Cathedral.

Old Arbat  street is one of Moscow's oldest streets. The street has gone from being the headquarters of Ivan the Terrible's secret police, the Oprichina to the center of aristocratic life in Moscow in the 18th century to finally being the center of the Russian intelligentsia and bohemian life in the capital. On the tour, you will learn of the street´s interesting history and view the street's artisan culture. You will also have the opportunity to view and purchase souvenirs from the street's many craftsmen.

One of the most astonishing city attractions is the  Moscow Metro  which is well known for the outstanding design of its halls and stations. The Moscow Metro is one of the largest and most grandly built metro systems in the world. It was meant to be a showcase of the Soviet Union's achievements both for the Russians themselves and visitors from abroad. The stations are all uniquely designed with decorative elements including mosaics, statues, marble floors, walls and staircases.

St. Petersburg is the former capital of Imperial Russia, home of the Tsars and one of the world's most beautiful and romantic cities. St. Petersburg was founded by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703 on the banks of the Neva River and the Gulf of Finland. The city has seen its share of historical events including the Decembrist revolt, the palace coup and murder of Tsar Pavel, the intrigues of Catherine the Great, the assassination Tsar Alexander II, the influence of Rasputin on the Russian royal family, the Revolution of 1905 and the October Revolution of 1917 which brought the communists to power. During WWII, the city then known as Leningrad, went through a harrowing two and a half year blockade and siege by the Nazi invaders resulting in the deaths of over 1 million of its citizens. Today, St. Petersburg is Russia's second largest city with a population of over 5 million. It is also known as the center of Russian art, culture and literature - former citizens included Pushkin and Dostoevsky just to name a few. The entire city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is full of beautiful palaces and monuments including the Winter Palace. The city is also known as the Venice of the North because of its location on various islands in the Neva River and its many canals and bridges. St. Petersburg is home to the world famous Hermitage Museum which contains one of the world's largest collections of art including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt, Matisse, Picasso as well as many other old masters and impressionists. We are sure that you will find St. Petersburg one of the most if not the most fascinating places you have ever visited. Welcome to this most beautiful and mysterious of cities.

Day 5, St. Petersburg

Peter and Paul Fortress

10:00 City sightseeing tour with visit to Peter and Paul Fortress.

The Peter and Paul Fortress  is the original citadel of Saint Petersburg, founded by Peter the Great in 1703. The fortress contains several notable buildings clustered around the Peter and Paul Cathedral, which has a 123 meter bell-tower and a gilded angel-topped cupola. The cathedral is the burial place of the Russian emperors from Peter the Great to Alexander the Third. The sandy beaches underneath the fortress walls are among the most popular in St. Petersburg.

Day 6, St. Petersburg

The Hermitage

The Winter Palace, one of the buildings of the  Hermitage Museum  is one of the most wonderful palaces in North Eastern Europe and today is one the world's finest museums. The museum consists of five historical buildings including the  Winter Palace  - the residence of the Russian Tsars. The museum contains over 3 million pieces of art with dates ranging from high antiquity to the present day. Old Arbat District: the Art Quarter

Holidays are bright and colourful, we all love them because they form a ray of light amongst the grey monotony of the daily grind. Arbat is a real street-holiday, where it is always noisy and fun: people meet, walk, watch the performances of talented street artists with clowns, singers and dancers strutting their stuff. Right on the pavement, artists proudly exhibit their works.

There is a very special atmosphere here that has long attracted representatives of the creative intelligentsia. L. Tolstoy and S. Yesenin, A. Pushkin and his young wife N. Goncharov, A. Blok and B. Pasternak are fondly remembered by the hallowed paving stones along Arbat. It is of no surprise that the heroes of the famous novel ‘War and Peace’ were ‘registered’.

We would like to invite you to take a walk with us along the historic Old Arbat! We will talk about the history and architecture of the most romantic street in Moscow.

  • You will hear a lot of interesting facts about the grand houses that were located here and their wealthy residents.
  • You will learn how a once inexpensive inn for carriage drivers has since turned into one of the best restaurants in the capital!
  • You will see the famous house where A. Pushkin and N. Goncharova spent their honeymoon and stand at the wall dedicated to the memory of post punk/new wave icon Viktor
  • You will be carried away down the beautiful side streets such as: Bolshaya Afanasyevsky, Nikolopeskovsky, Filippovsky, Krivoarbatsky. In a bygone era, these streets were part of Arbat and were bustling with its spirit.

B.Okudzhava dedicated some of his lyrical poems to Arbat, his favourite street from childhood. A. Rybakov, author of the famous novel ‘Children of the Arbat’ also lived here. There is also a little corner of Bulgakov's Moscow on Arbat - the former Torgsin store (now the ‘The Seventh Continent’), where the novel ‘The Master and Margarita’ unfolded.

Every house on Arbat is a piece of history, and we will dive into this history head first.
