The Friend Safari (Japanese: フレンドサファリ Friend Safari ) is a facility in Kiloude City where Trainers can catch Pokémon that cannot normally be found in Kalos .

In the games

Once the player has entered the Hall of Fame , they are able to access Kiloude City and thus the Friend Safari. At the Friend Safari, the player is able to access Safaris for any Friends that are successfully registered in the 3DS 's friend list (regardless of whether or not that person has played Pokémon X and Y ). Each Safari has designated Pokémon that can be encountered, all belonging to a designated type; these are determined by the Friend's friend code and will not change. As such, any players who successfully register a given friend code in their 3DS will all be able to access the exact same Friend Safari. There is no way for the player to access the Friend Safari for their own 3DS.

Friends who have been recognized in the PSS will usually be represented in the Friend Safari list by the avatar they were last seen with on the PSS, while Friends who have not been seen will be represented by a "?" icon. However, if the player has added more than 100 Friends (by deleting some at some point), the earliest-seen avatars may begin to be forgotten and revert to "?" icons until they are next seen on the PSS; this does not affect the rest of the Safari's status, however. Also, if a Friend is deleted from the 3DS's friend list and then readded later, their Safari may retain the status it had before it was deleted.

All Friend Safaris have three Pokémon that may be captured. Only Pokémon from the first two "slots" are available until the Friend to whom that Safari belongs enters the Hall of Fame and subsequently appears online in the PSS at the same time as the player (thereby also allowing the PSS to recognize the Friend if it had not already). Once all three "slots" are unlocked the Pokémon encountered in that Friend's Safari will thereafter have a chance of having their Hidden Ability .

All Pokémon encountered in the Friend Safari are guaranteed to have at least two IVs of 31 (three IVs of 31 for Pokémon that are in No Eggs Discovered , such as Togepi ) and have a higher chance of being Shiny . When checking for Shininess, the game generates up to four extra personality values to attempt to find a Shiny value, resulting in a rate of 5/4096; this effect can stack with the Shiny Charm , which results in a rate of 7/4096. All Pokémon that appear in the Friend Safari are level 30 (causing some, such as Muk and Drapion , to be underleveled ). Pokémon can be found in the Friend Safari regardless of being Version-exclusive Pokémon or otherwise unobtainable in either version. All Friend Safari-exclusive Pokémon can be normally caught in either Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire , or both.

In the tables below, note that "rate" does not refer to encounter rate but rather the likelihood for a Pokémon to have been selected for that "slot" of a Friend Safari. All Pokémon that can appear in a given Friend's Safari have the same encounter rate.

Normal-type Safari

Fire-type safari, fighting-type safari, water-type safari, flying-type safari, grass-type safari, poison-type safari, electric-type safari, ground-type safari, psychic-type safari, rock-type safari, ice-type safari, bug-type safari.

If a Safari contains Vivillon , the form that appears will be the one corresponding to the current player's own location data, which won't necessarily match the location of the friend that provided the Safari.

Dragon-type Safari

Ghost-type safari, dark-type safari, steel-type safari, fairy-type safari.

• Initially, Vivillon 's icon would not replace the Poké Ball icon after it was encountered. This was fixed in the version 1.3 patch.
• Floette is the only Pokémon to have a greater than 50% chance of appearing in a Friend Safari.
• Cascoon is the only Pokémon to be found in a Friend Safari who does not match the designated type, as it is a pure Bug-type Pokémon found in a Poison-type Friend Safari. Its evolution , Dustox , however, is part Poison-type.

Friend Safari

The friend safari in Pokemon X and Y brings back the popular Pokemon Safari concept originally introduced in generation one, but with a twist. Unlike previous installments of the safari, the friend safari is based upon adding friends to your Nintendo 3DS friend list to gain access to explorable areas and Pokemon to catch.

Each friend you have, you get an area to explore for Pokemon. The type of Pokemon found in each area if the friend safari is also randomly determined for each friend in your list. There will be a friend safari for each Pokemon type and then for each type there will be a random selection of 3 Pokemon,meaning you will need friends of each type multiple times to get access to all of the Pokemon in the friend safari

Pokemon X Safari

The Pokemon found in the friend safari are all found at level 30 and can be battled to be caught instead of just allowing bait and rocks to be thrown at them. They may also have special/rare traits to them, making them great additions to your team. Version exclusiveness also does not apply when in the friend safari .

The friend safari is also a great place to begin your IV training for competitive battling. The Pokemon captured in the friend safari each have at least 2 perfect IVs, making them excellent for breeding.

The following are the Pokemon that you can capture in their respective friend safari zonez. The 3rd Pokemon of each type group cannot be accessed until the friend that you obtained the friend safari zone from has beaten the Pokemon league.

How does the friend safari work?

Pokemon x (3ds).

• I want a hidden ability mawile but don't know how the friend safari works. I'm under the impression that I need friend codes? Don't know how that works and no one I know plays x so how do I do this Ciaradoyle - 7 years ago - report

• So in the main 3ds menue on the top row of the touch screen there is an orange icon for "friends". If you click that, the first thing you will see is your friend code, FC for short. On yhe top right of that screen should be an add friend button. Let your friends input your code and you put in theirs. Once thats done, go into X/Y and progress till you are in post game and unlock the friend safari area. In there, you will be asked which friends area you wish to go hunting in. There are some things you need to know: 1. Each friend has a type assignd to them and 3 pokemon of that type will show up. 2. In order to get the 3rd pokemon and HA to unlock you both have to meet each other once online or in person after you become the champ. 3. In the game

Once the player has entered Metchi Town , they are able to purchase a secret base and thus access the Friend Safari. A secret entrance to your secret base is located behind the bookcases in every Pokémon Center (2nd floor in Pokémalls). Players are able to go online and enter a friend's username to visit their base.

All Pokémon that appear in the Friend Safari are level 12-18. All Friend Safaris have three Pokémon that may be captured. Only Pokémon from the first "slot" will be available until the trainer has six Gym Badges, at which point two "slots" are available. The third and final "slot" is unlocked after receiving the eighth badge.

All three Pokémon are of the same type, determined randomly when the base is purchased. However, there are some cases such as Bidoof being spawned in a Water-type Safari, due to its evolved form being a Water-type Pokémon. This is the same for Poliwhirl , Corphish , Swablu , Seadra , Skrelp , Seel , Prinplup , Bunnelby , Pancham , Karrablast , Cacnea , Nosepass , and Pineco being spawned in a Safari where their evolved form has a new type which is the same type as the Safari.

It is possible for Woobat to spawn in both slots 1 and 2 for a Flying-type Safari.

There are some differences in the Pokémon encountered in the Friend Safari as opposed to the official games. Pokémon found here have a 5/4096 [or 1/819~] chance of being Shiny without a shiny charm, or a 7/4096 [1/585~] chance with a shiny charm. These Pokémon also are not guaranteed to have at least two IVs of 31 nor do they hold any items. Pokémon encountered here have a chance of 1/5 of having their Hidden Ability .

Hate Your Best Friend’s Husband? Here’s How To Tell Her Without Ending Your Friendship

S itting in a coffee shop (mostly) minding my own business, I couldn’t help overhearing the conversation of the two women next to me. One was tearfully disclosing to her friend that she’d just broken up with her boyfriend and after detailing their final argument, paused for the anticipated outpouring of surprise and sympathy.

However, the friend had clearly not been given the same script for this conversation, as she revealed she’d never actually liked this guy, and frankly, thought her friend was better off without him. I resisted the urge to turn round and ask why she hadn’t told her friend this before now, but fortunately I didn’t have to resort to this social faux pas, as the newly single friend demanded to know the very same thing. Through sips of her latte, the friend shared the same sentiment that so many of us have experienced at one time or another: “I didn’t want to hurt your feelings”. Leaving the coffee shop, and the two women still deep in conversation, I reflected on the challenges of being honest with your friends, especially when it comes to their partners.

Of course, ideally our friends will choose partners that we like, so there will never be the need for a difficult coffee shop conversation. But no matter how much we think we know what’s best for our friends, the reality is that we don’t get to choose who they get together with, so we can find ourselves actively disliking their partner and scratching our heads about why they chose this person over all the better options out there. The dilemma then becomes whether to tell your friend. They may be open to constructive feedback on a new recipe they’ve just cooked or an outfit they tried on in the Zara changing room, but criticising their partner is a whole different ball game and is unlikely to go well.

The first step in deciding whether to tell them is to figure out exactly why you dislike their partner. One possibility is that you have a personality clash and just don’t ‘click’ with them.

Maybe the way they constantly quote sci-fi movies sets your teeth on edge, or perhaps you hate that they shorten your friend’s name into a cutesy pet name, despite her being a grown woman. Of course, you can roll your eyes internally to your heart’s content but is it worthy of an “I don’t like your boyfriend” conversation? Realistically, if your friend seems unbothered then your role is to plaster on a smile and tell her you’re glad she’s happy, even if you do have to say it through an avalanche of Star Trek quotes.

Of course there’s another possible reason for disliking them – the way they treat your friend. If a partner is showing signs of toxic, abusive or controlling behaviour, this is an opportunity for you to step up as a friend and have a conversation about it. Maybe your friend doesn’t come out much now as her partner gets jealous, or when she does come out, she has to constantly send them photos to prove where she is.

These behaviours could reasonably trigger a conversation with your friend, but of course that doesn’t mean she’ll be ready or willing to hear it. She might even offer excuses for their behaviour like, “he’s only over-protective because his last partner cheated on him”. All you can do is explain why you’re concerned and reassure her that it’s coming from a place of love and support for her, rather than disliking her partner. One of the most important things you can do here as a friend is to leave the door open for future conversations by saying, “It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about this now, but if you ever want to chat about it then I’m here for you”. This takes the pressure off them in the moment but lets them know they have support if they ever want it.

It's not always easy being a friend, certainly not as easy as Monica , Chandler and the gang would have us believe. It’s especially challenging when we don’t understand or agree with our friends’ choice of partner, and we’re forced to decide whether to have that difficult conversation. In those situations consider Morgan Matson’s words: "Real friends are the ones you can count on no matter what, the ones who go into the forest to find you and bring you home”. So if you dislike your friend’s partner and can’t decide whether to tell them, take a moment to figure out if this is just a personality clash or if they actually pose a risk to your friend, and if you truly believe they do, take a deep breath, put on your shoes and head into the forest.

Apple wants to know why you hate Safari

An apple evangelist and developer advocate took to twitter wednesday to ask users what bugs them about safari. while some were congenial, others were open about their distaste for the browser..

An Apple employee who advocates for Safari developers got an eyeful after taking to Twitter to ask users for feedback on why the Safari browser is unpopular and to ask that they point out specific issues with it.

Jen Simmons, an Apple evangelist and developer advocate on the Web Developer Experience team for Safari and WebKit, was clearly taken aback by the responses .

“Catching up with tech Twitter this morning and there seems to be an angry pocket of men who really want Safari to just go away,” Simmons tweeted. “Do we really want to live in a 95% Chromium browser world? That would be a horrible future for the web. We need more voices, not fewer.”

Jen Simmons, a developer advocate on the Web Developer Experience team for Safari, asked for user views on the Apple browser.

Unlike some rival browsers, such as Mozilla’s Firefox, Apple’s updates to Safari are sparse, with major upgrades just once a year. So the bulk of new features are often rolled out in a single instance. While that may be appealing for some who dislike frequent browser updates, it also means upgrades and/or fixes for Safari don’t come often.

In recent years, however, Safari has borne a raft of complaints about the browser’s bugs, user interface and experience, and website compatibility, according to MacRumors .

Last June, Apple unveiled a substantial redesign for Safari at the company’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC). Many of those changes, however, were met with quick criticism describing them as “counterintuitive.”

Apple went through several iterations of the browser during the summer — both on mobile devices and desktops — and allowed users to largely revert to the previous Safari design prior to the release of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey.

The developer has also  continued to work on privacy improvements in Safari as it seeks to gain market share in the enterprise. For example, in the current version of iOS 14.5 (in beta), Apple has been working on changing how Safari accesses Google’s Safe Browsing service. The Safe Browsing service warns users when they visit a fraudulent website. Through that service, Apple issues “Fraudulent Website Warning” alerts for iOS and iPadOS devices.

While Safari, the native browser on Apple devices, has a significant number of users — especially on the iPhone and iPad — Google’s Chrome has become the de facto browser for most with about 64% of the monthly user share, according to W3Counter , a web traffic tracking service. Safari comes in a distant second with 16.5% of web traffic. Internet Explorer/Edge comes in third with 6.1% of the traffic, and Firefox and Opera claimed 4% and 1.4%, respectively.

Web traffic tracker Net MarketShare is more generous to Safari;  it pegged Chrome’s user share at 56%, Safari at 38%, and Firefox at 5%.

While Safari may be in second place for usage, it appeared at times to come in last place for likability based on responses to Simmons’ query.

“Everyone in my mentions [is] saying Safari is the worst, it’s the new IE,” Simmons tweeted. 

Hoping to get to the bottom of the anger, Simmons asked Twitter users to point to specific bugs and missing support that frustrate them or make it harder for them to create websites or apps. “Bonus points for links to tickets,” she wrote.

“Specifics we can fix. Vague hate is honestly super counterproductive,” she added.

While some, like @emoryzanef ,  espoused “love” for Safari, they also voiced frustration that it has become buggy.

“I love [S]afari,” wrote Emory Fierlinger , a web designer and developer. “Switched years ago. Unfortunately lately its become so buggy that I’ve started searching for alternatives. I use @webflow a lot, and it just performs better in chromium based browsers. Not sure if it’s a fault of theirs or Safari’s….”

Fierlinger also complained that certain pop-ups were annoying, and scrolling while in Safari produces a jittery, “janky” screen.

Another Twitter user, @epintobasto, complained Safari doesn’t “support Metamask or any other crypto wallet. Hope the crypto community adopts Safari in MacOS and iOS.”

Simmons asked users who notice bugs that are several years old and have not been fixed to contact her using a bugs.webkit.org link or via  feedbackassistant.Apple.com .

“I’d like to look into it,” she wrote.
