Christian Cruises

CruiseMapper logo

At CruiseMapper's Christian Cruises dedicated page you can compare Christian-themed cruise travel vacations by line and destination. See what are the best Christian cruise lines and what their ships have to offer you as themes and itineraries schedule (departure dates and ports). This article is integrated with Cruises to Holy Land and our  Theme Cruises  hub.

Although not cheap, Christian cruise vacations for families have all the chances to become one of your family's best spiritual getaways! No matter if it's a ministry-organized group voyage, or just a family vacation focused on Christian values, "Christian Cruises" as themed voyages are a wonderful vacation option. On these, you can do both - indulge in the pampering elements of the cruise ship vacation, and satisfy your spiritual needs.

Christian Cruise Travel

If you are on a vacation budget, a ship cruise is among the best all-inclusive packages- everything is included and pre-planned. This simplifies packing and travel, enhancing your relaxation.

Christian Cruises - CruiseMapper

What is a Christian Cruise?

"Christian Cruises" incorporate inspirational speakers, teaching seminars, spiritual entertainment. These are the spots to find like-minded people, worship and pray as you sail. There are different types of Christian cruise deals. Some include Senior, Family, Couples and Singles Cruises.

The typical length of Christian Cruises varies from three up to eight days; their average cost ranges from $400 and up.

  • Pros - unforgettable spiritual voyages of a lifetime; all trip essentials included in one price; family-friendly environment and entertainment.
  • Cons - High cost of the vacation packages; not freestyle cruises- dress code may be uncomfortable for some guests; no variety in entertainment (particularly musical entertainment).

Many Christian Cruises are organized by a specific ministry or church organizations. They often opt for specialized themes, the most popular of which include:

  • Music cruises with popular Christian artists' songs;
  • Christian college cruises;
  • Ministerial voyages for church leadership figures;
  • Christian destination vacations that visit religious sites or trace Bible routes (Israel being among the world's most visited);
  • Specialized denomination voyages, planned to appeal to Episcopalians, Lutherans, Methodists, other Christianity sects;
  • Couples and Singles cruises which give members an opportunity to connect with people who share their faith;
  • Family voyages (mother and daughter) that unite families with Christian ideals and values.

Christian cruise ship activities

In addition to the inclusions of a typical cruise price (fine dining, games, entertainment), "Christian Cruises" provide a variety of activities. This way Christian passengers enjoy fellowship with other guests. Remember that group cruises do not usually require passengers' participation in any set number activities. There are options for everyone to try something fun that will help meet other individuals sharing the same religious beliefs. Each themed Christian cruise is quite different, but the typical onboard activities include:

  • Welcome receptions and Bible study
  • Worship services and Seminars on different religious topics
  • Christian themed games; Christian entertainment (Christian musicians, speakers, comedians)
  • Specialized shore excursions to famous religious sites, churches, temples.
  • Social activities (dances, slumber parties, group photographs, elegant receptions on formal nights).

How to choose between Christian cruise lines?

A large number of travel agencies plan regular Christian Cruises. A single agency only offers a few voyages each year. But if you investigate different travel agents, you will be able to find the voyage that appeals to you exactly. The most popular agencies, offering Christian cruise vacations are:

  • All Christian Cruises
  • Bountiful Travel
  • Christian Travel Finder
  • Inspiration Cruises
  • Matter of the Heart
  • Premier Experience
  • Temptation Tours

Christian cruise line ships have limited offers on Christian themed cruises per year. But they all sail to some of the world's most beautiful places! Usually, themed cruise deals are traded via themed travel agencies. Some travel agencies schedule a popular itinerary. Others vary destinations so that travelers have more options. Consider the following factors when you choose between all the "Christian cruise lines":

  • Cruise line/operator. The ones that frequently host themed Christian voyages are Carnival Cruise Line , Princess Cruises , Royal Caribbean International , Holland America, though other lines participate as well.
  • Destinations/itinerary. Christian themed cruises often include vacations to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Bahamas. Another very popular destinations are Mexico and Hawaii. Very special Mediterranean itineraries are the so-called "Holy Land Cruises"- to visit Israel, Egypt, Greece, and Turkey in one package deals.
  • Denomination. There are voyages focused on appealing to a specific sect. Others are appealing to all Christians.
  • Activity options. Carefully investigate the activities when you choose a Christian cruise- find those appealing to you. Some Christian music artists are popular for ones, but other passengers may prefer a quieter voyage.

Themed Christian cruise tours

If you are unable to find the ideal Christian cruise for your own vacation plans, work through the local church. There are lots of pre-planned Christian voyages available, but not every Christian likes to be involved in a structured getaway. Don't bother- it is easy to plan a Christian cruise on your own. The benefits of cruise vacations include the appeal of having meals, accommodations, travel, and destinations- all included in a single fare. There are also many activities provided, which appeal to all ages. Read the following tips which will add some spirituality to your Christian themed traveling experience:

  • Designate time for worship and prayer. Modern cruise ships offer small chapels; there are also many quiet places onboard suitable for a small group.
  • Avoid cruise ship's vices. Your personal behavior can be Christ-like everywhere, no matter where the voyage may be.
  • Choose educational tours. Instead of indulging on board, discover God's wonders in different destinations.

Christian cruise lines deals present the unique option for physically, mentally, and spiritually refreshing themed travel vacations. Choose preplanned theme cruises specific to your faith or just focus on spirituality while on vacation. Christian cruises offer something for everyone! Book today and get the best cabin locations and rates! Find out more from our selected Christian vacations below.

Christian Music Cruises

cruise christian

Christian cruises -- particularly Christian music cruises -- have become a popular option for individuals who want to enjoy all of the benefits of a cruise vacation alongside other cruisers who share their religious views and values. The growing popularity of this particular cruise style means that some of Christian worship music's top artists are joining in on the onboard fun.

Some worship bands have their very own dedicated sailings while others take part in Christian music cruises that feature extensive lineups of chart-topping Christian bands and singers. In addition to live worship, many Christian music cruises also feature onboard spiritual enrichment activities, as well as more typical onboard entertainment options like deck games and karaoke contests.

Passengers might even get the chance to meet their favorite Christian music artists during scheduled meet-and-greets, Q&A sessions and other organized onboard activities. Theme cruises do tend to sell out, so be sure to book early.

Here are some popular Christian music theme cruises to look out for.

On This Page

Mercyme at sea, k-love cruise, summer hits cruise.

Legendary Christian worship band MercyMe has invited a lineup of other Christian worship music artists to join them and their families on a Caribbean cruise. Passengers can spend time in fellowship with the musicians themselves, as well as their families, attend live worship sessions and enjoy plenty of rest and relaxation with like-minded cruisers.

cruise christian

With appearances and live performances by nearly two dozen speakers and Christian music artists, the K-Love Cruise (sponsored by the radio station of the same name) gives Christian music-lovers the chance to see some of their favorite performers live and immerse themselves in worship while on a relaxing Caribbean vacation. These sailings also typically feature additional onboard activities, such as theme nights and Q&A sessions, but the K-Love Cruise predominantly focuses on the music.

Dubbed the "Largest Summer Festival on the Water," the Summer Hits Cruise is the Christian music cruise for young fans of worship music who like to party while still maintaining their values and honoring their faith. The Summer Hits Cruise features a lineup starring some of the absolute biggest names in popular Christian music, representing a variety of musical styles from hip-hop to country. In addition to musical performances throughout each day of the sailing, the cruise features additional onboard activities and entertainment, such as '80s theme nights and celebrity-led karaoke.

Christian Fellowship Alaska Cruise: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best month for a Christian Alaska Cruise?

If you’re planning a Christian cruise to Alaska in 2024 or 2025, the summer months are the best time to visit. Alaska gets cold during the winter, and the days are longer during the summer. Summer is the ideal season to relax on our Christian Alaska Cruise. Booking Christian tours at the right time is essential if you want the best weather, but some areas may be busier during certain parts of the year. Pilgrim Tours can help you choose the best Alaskan Christian Cruise for your schedule.

How many days do you need for a Christian Alaska Cruise?

Our Christian Alaska Cruises range from 7-11 days in length and take you to various landmarks and historical locations throughout Alaska. When you book our Christian cruises to Alaska in 2024 or 2025, you’ll have plenty of time to relax and enjoy some of the beautiful nature the state has to offer. This cruise also includes stops in Alaskan towns like Juneau and Skagway, so you’ll get the chance to spend an afternoon in several unique areas.

What is the dress code on a Christian Alaska Cruise?

Like most of our U.S. tours , the dress code for our Christian Alaskan Cruise aboard the Celebrity Millennium, Quantum of the Seas or Radiance of the Seas is relaxed for the most part. You can wear casual resort wear onboard the ship and bring some swimming gear for the time you spend shoreside. At night, you’ll need to wear smart casual attire if you want to attend the dining areas and theater. You can contact us if you have questions about what to pack.

Is there a lot of walking involved on a Christian Alaska Cruise?

While our Ireland tours and other tours of Europe often involve walking, you can kick back and relax when you book a Christian Alaska Cruise in 2024 or 2025. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to lounge around aboard the ship, but there are a few land stops that require some walking. Bring a comfortable pair of shoes that you don’t mind walking in. The cruise ships also have a gym, so you can bring athletic shoes and gym clothes if you want to work out.

What passport & visa information do I need for your Christian Alaska Cruise?

Before you book one of our Christian Alaska Cruises, make sure you have a valid passport. You may also be required to have a multiple reentry visa if you’re a foreign passenger traveling from the United States. If you have any questions about passport and visa requirements for our Alaska cruises, feel free to call or email us.

What common languages will be spoken during the Christian Alaska Cruise?

For most of your Christian Alaska Cruise, you’ll be talking with people who speak English. Other passengers may speak another language, and there are also stops where you may encounter people who speak other languages. Our cruise includes a stop in Ketchikan, where some people still speak the native Tlingit language. However, there won’t be any major language barriers like you may encounter with our Germany tours .

What currency can I use on a Christian Alaska Cruise?

While you need to exchange US dollars for euros before booking one of our Greece tours , you can spend US dollars during your Alaskan cruise. As a US state, Alaska uses the US dollar as its primary currency. While you’re on the cruise ship, you can charge any purchases you want to make to your cruise issued ID card. You can view the current balance of your cruise ID card in the your Cruise App at any time.

Do I need to bring a converter for the Christian Alaska Cruise?

Most cruise ships have the standard 120V type B outlets that Americans are accustomed to, so you don’t need to worry about bringing a converter if you’re from the United States. Some cruise ships also have 220V outlets for European passengers. If you’re not from the United States, you should bring an adapter that works with 120V type B outlets just to be safe. You can also use a universal adapter.

What is the time zone for your Christian Alaska Cruise?

Alaska uses the Alaska Time Zone (AKST), which means you’ll be in a different time zone than the contiguous United States. The Alaska Time Zone is an hour behind Pacific time, two hours behind Mountain time, three hours behind Central time, and four hours behind Eastern time. Fortunately, this slight change in time zones isn’t enough to cause jet lag.

What climate should I expect during my Christian Alaska Cruise?

When you book an Alaskan cruise with other Christian passengers, you can expect warm but somewhat mild weather during the summer. While Alaska can reach temperatures above 90 F, that’s a rare occurrence. Temperatures in the 70s are more common during the summer. You should bring casual resort wear like sandals and shorts, but cruises in Alaska aren’t quite as warm as our Costa Rica tours.

Enjoy great fellowship & daily devotional times.

Day 6: Seward/Cruising

In the morning, you will take a flight to Anchorage. Travel south on the Seward Highway. A National Scenic Byway which passes through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. The landscape varies from the muddy waters of Turnagain Arm to the icy blue glaciers that hang almost to the sea. Wildflowers and waterfalls brighten every corner of the road as it glides below rough mountains that pierce thick, heavy clouds. Only Alaska's Seward Highway can offer this particular mix created by climate, geography, and geology. We take ample time to stop and see the incredible sights and any wildlife as well a couple recommended stops. Seward is not only one of Alaska's oldest communities, it's also one of its most scenic. Visit and discover this picturesque town known as the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. You'll find a historic downtown district filled with quaint shops and art galleries, and some of the most exciting outdoor adventures imaginable. Upon our arrival, transfer to our cruise ship, the five star "Celebrity Millennium". After boarding we will have time to familiarize ourselves with the ships amenities before embarkation this evening.

Day 7: Hubbard Glacier

The longest river of ice in North America, the Hubbard Glacier is also one of the most active glaciers of its kind in Alaska. And since our ships are designed to provide our guests with the best viewing possible, you'll be able to see this massive natural wonder, with its 1,350 square miles of blue ice, from just about anywhere on the ship.

Day 8: Juneau

cruise christian

Early morning worship time will begin our dayWe arrive in Juneau, the capital of Alaska. Juneau was founded during a gold rush in 1880. Today, the former gold-mining town counts among its riches some of Alaska's most spectacular scenery. Nestled at the foot of Mt. Juneau in the Alaska Panhandle, it faces the water from the mainland side of Gastineau Channel. Several magnificent fjords are located along the channel coast, and the majestic Mendenhall Glacier, a favorite of visitors, is nearby.

Day 9: Skagway

We arrive in Skagway early this morning for a full day of Alaskan experiences. This "Gateway to the Klondike" watched as countless fortune-seekers passed on its streets as they headed to the Chilkoot and White Pass Trails during the heyday of Alaska's Gold Rush. Today, you can still feel like a prospector in Skagway, as you walk along its rustic boardwalks and frontier-style storefronts. With only 750 residents, this cozy town lies at the head of the Lynn Canal and offers a pleasant respite from the hustle and bustle of most cities. We will return to the ship in early evening to continue our cruise, voyaging on the Lynn Canal, which affords breathtaking views of the mountainous landscape.

Day 10: Icy Strait Point

Icy Strait Point is located near the city of Hoonah, the largest native Tlingit Indian settlement in Alaska, and very near Glacier Bay National Park. Home to a historic cannery, the port's connection to the sea is strong. Locals share the sea with humpback whales, orcas, Dall porpoises, seals, sea otters, halibut and all five species of Pacific salmon. It is not uncommon to spot a humpback or an orca while walking along the shore.

Day 11: Ketchikan

We arrive in Ketchikan this morning, located in the Tongass National Forest, the largest in the US at over 17 million acres. Ketchikan is Alaska's first port of call for northbound ships. Originally visited by Tlingit natives, the heart of Ketchikan is downtown Ketchikan Creek, which includes the wooden boardwalks of Creek Street. Take the tram for a bird's eye view of downtown, or browse the many shops and Native cultural displays throughout the town.

Day 12: Inside Passage (At Sea)

We wake up this morning with a full day at sea cruising. Experience the beauty of Alaska as we travel through the Inside Passage. Apart from the Alaska sites we will have the entire day to enjoy what our ship has to offer.

Day 13: Vancouver

We arrive early this morning, disembark and transfer to the airport for our flight home.

If you’re already thinking about what to bring, summer in Alaska is beautiful with sunshine and possible showers. Below is a checklist to help you pack for your exceptional travel experience. Remember that your luggage will be delivered to your cabin at an unspecified time on the day of departure, so it’s a good idea to pack a change of clothes, toiletries and any medications you need in a carry-on bag to bring with you.

Packing Checklist

  • Casual clothes including pants, jeans, shorts, T-shirts, collared shirts or blouses
  • Light sweater or jacket
  • Semi-formal clothes or dress clothes for 1-2 evenings, depending on the length of your cruise
  • Bathing suit and a cover-up or wrap
  • Light raincoat or compact umbrella
  • Comfortable walking shoes or sandals with rubber soles
  • Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Toiletries, in a sealed, clear bag inside your luggage
  • Minor First Aid care items such as Band-Aids, aspirin, hand sanitizer, etc.
  • Medications in their original containers
  • Hair care appliances (see information on Using Electronics)
  • Small bag or backpack for port days; large enough to carry your camera and other personal items
  • Passport with separate photocopy

Dining Dress Code

On a typical seven-day cruise, you’ll have two nights of dressing up for dinner or other special events. We suggest a semi-formal dress or skirt and blouse for women and a dark suit for men. The remaining dinners on the cruise are informal—blouse and pants for women; collared shirt with trousers for men. Remember that T-shirts, shorts or tank tops are not permitted in the dining room.

Packing Tips

Make certain your suitcase closes and fastens securely. Mark your luggage and carry-on bag with your name and address so you can distinguish them easily. We also recommend you put identification information—name, address and phone number—INSIDE your luggage in case the luggage tags are lost in transit. We also suggest keeping your essential toiletries and a one-day change of clothes in your carry-on. Do not pack your passport or travel documents in your luggage. It is suggested that you keep a color copy of the information page of your passport inside your luggage if your passport is lost.

For more information, please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am – 5:00pm, Pacific Time.

We know how nice it is to have the convenience of home when traveling on a cruise. Bringing your electronics and hair appliances can enhance your overall travel experience. Every cruise ship has plugs that accept U.S. and Continental European devices, and you do not need to bring plug adaptors. Here are some things to know about your electronics before you pack them:

Phones, MP3 Players, Laptops, Cameras & Video Cameras

Most small digital devices have chargers that will fit in the plugs on a cruise ship. One thing to be mindful of is the limited plugs in each cabin; you may want to bring a multi-plug extension cord.

Blow Dryers, Curling Irons & Straighteners

Each stateroom has a hair dryer for your personal convenience. If you prefer your hair appliances, you may want to consider purchasing or borrowing compact and travel-friendly appliances.

For more information, please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm, Pacific Time.

The scenic beauty of Alaska can be enjoyed from onboard the ship and to make the most of your cruise vacation, you can also get out into the local ports. Shore excursions offer something for everyone. Choose from city tours, culinary explorations, shopping outings, cultural activities and more.

Because shore excursions have limited capacity and fill up quickly, we recommend you book early for the best selection on your cruise. Once you’ve booked your Inspiration cruise, check out the customized cruise line excursion list based on your itinerary. Using your cruise booking number, you can easily book shore excursions online as early as 60 days before your trip and up to 3 days before departure, depending on the cruise line.

Visit the cruise line’s website to find information on specific excursions:

  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Holland America Line
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Royal Caribbean International

You may also register for your Shore Excursions once onboard the ship. All shore excursion requests are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Waitlisted requests for sold-out shore excursions will be processed before requests made onboard.

For more information please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm, Pacific Time.

We want to help make your trip as smooth and as enjoyable as possible. We can book motorcoach transfers for you from the airport to your cruise departure port and on your return trip.

Hotel Stays

Remember that you always have the option of arriving earlier or staying later. For example, hotel reservations may be available if you want to arrive a few days early before boarding your cruise or stay a few days after the cruise returns.

As you plan for your upcoming Christian cruise with Inspiration, you may wonder about using money and credit cards during your travels. We’ve made the following recommendations to help you save money, avoid unnecessary fees and focus on an exceptional travel experience.

  • Consider leaving all unnecessary credit cards at home.
  • Once you determine which cards you’ll bring, remember to notify each credit card company of your intended travel dates and locations to ensure fraud alerts and holds are not placed on your accounts.
  • For each card, you’ll want to store the bank’s contact information in a separate, secure location in the unlikely event your wallet or purse is lost or stolen.

Almost all businesses in Victoria or Vancouver, Canada accept U.S. credit or debit cards. If you plan to use your credit cards, you’ll want to check with each credit card company to determine the international exchange fee for each card. Because the difference of a few percentage points could cost you more (depending on your purchases), we recommend using cards with lower international exchange fees. Using your credit card for large purchases gives you more protection for the items you buy on your trip. You can review your credit card statement to verify all of your purchases.

The Canadian Dollar (C$) is the official currency when your cruise stops in Canada, however U.S. dollars are widely accepted. When paying in U.S. dollars expect change in Canadian Dollars so bring small bills. If traveling with currency other than the U.S. dollar you may exchange money onboard the ship, although we always recommend checking the exchange rate before traveling to a foreign country.

Today’s technology allows you to stay connected while traveling—ensuring you get that memorable photo or message from your loved ones. On most ships, you should be able to use your cell phone or smartphone to do everything you’re used to doing at home. In addition, mobile phones provide convenient access for emergencies and confirming travel plans. Some basic guidelines and tips will help you save money, keep your phone working effectively and stay in touch.

Before you leave

Spending some time contacting your cell phone carrier before your trip will help ensure you can call friends and family back home and eliminate any surprises on your phone bill when you return. Let your phone carrier know your travel plans, including how you plan to use your phone on your cruise. You’ll want to make sure you understand all of the potential charges. Contact your carrier for specific information.

Check with your carrier for international dialing access

You will want to make sure international and cruise package dialing is active on your mobile phone plan so that you can use it in the Canadian ports and remember that international and maritime roaming rates will apply to calls placed onboard the ship (charges will appear on your phone bill). Because roaming rates can be high on cruises, checking with your carrier for specific cost details before you leave is a good idea.

Aboard your flight and cruise

Your cell phone’s battery life is the key to keeping you connected. Below are some tips for staying powered up on your trip:

  • Remember to set your phone to Airplane Mode when you board your flight. You can also do this aboard the cruise when sailing to avoid roaming charges unless you have the cruise ship package with your carrier. This suspends all calling and texting functions but still allows you to play games, use your camera and listen to music, etc.
  • On the cruise, you’ll want to charge your phone every night to ensure enough battery life for the next day.
  • Try to turn off your phone when you’re not using it. Leaving your phone on all day drains the battery, so it’s a good idea to turn it off while you’re on a shore excursion, eating or reading.

Smartphone tips

As one of the most popular communication devices today, smartphones have revolutionized how we connect and the world. We know leaving your smartphone behind for an hour, much less multiple days is difficult. The following tips will help you save your phone’s battery life and get the most out of your smartphone while on the cruise:

  • Before your cruise, you’ll want to disable any applications that give you regular updates, such as sports reports and weather updates.
  • Disable the Data Enabled or Data Roaming option on your phone and keep it off until you reach your destination. Turn off the function for “Automatic” checking of emails and change the email settings to “Manual” to reduce data roaming charges. During your trip, you can check for email messages when connected to a free, wireless Internet connection, such as in a hotel lobby or Internet cafe while in port.

In-room phones and phone cards

If you choose to not bring your mobile phone, you can stay in touch with others while on your cruise using the in-room phones. Please make sure you understand all of the charges associated with this before you place your call, as the rates can be expensive.

An Alaskan cruise vacation allows you to explore multiple locations without the hassle of checking in and out of hotels, packing and unpacking, and spending valuable time trying to find quality restaurants–all with excellent service dedicated to enhancing your exceptional travel experience.

Each cruise line makes rewarding the excellent service you’ll receive onboard easy. A gratuity of $16-$19 per day (depending on the cruise line and cabin category), per guest for dining and stateroom services will be automatically added daily to your shipboard account. The cruise line also will automatically add an 18% service charge to beverages purchased through your onboard account. Before the end of the cruise, the Cruise Director will address more specific questions regarding tipping procedures.

If you take a taxi to the pier, it’s common to simply round up to the next dollar when paying your tab. The cab drivers appreciate this, and it is considered part of their income. When you arrive at the ship on embarkation day, we suggest tipping the porters at the pier $1.25 per bag when they take your luggage to place it on the ship. When visiting restaurants off the ship and during shore excursions, a 15-20% tip for restaurant service workers is appreciated.

With its richly dense rainforests and towering glaciers, Alaska is a place unlike any other— anywhere you look is a stunning site. We recommend whale watching; Juneau is home to the majestic humpback whales. Tom Cruise Doesn't Really Do Sequels Very Often, But There's Apparently One Movie His Co-Star Was Shocked Didn't Get A Follow-up

"He did bite me at the end..."

Unless we are talking about Mission: Impossible – M:I 8 is currently filming or the long-delayed Top Gun : Maverick – Tom Cruise isn’t known for making very many sequels to his flicks. But, according to one former cast member, there is one film in his oeuvre that he is shocked never got a follow-up. The former cast member in question is Christian Slater , who co-starred along with Cruise and Brad Pitt in one of the best films of the 90s , the film adaptation of Anne Rice’s novel Interview With The Vampire . According to the Heathers alum, he’s shocked that he and the Risky Business star never got a second bite at the neck, playing a vampire in a sequel.

Tom Cruise looks up as Lestat in Interview with the Vampire.

Christian Slater Reflects on The Missed Sequel Opportunity

It's hard to believe it's been nearly three decades–the movie turns 30 this year–since we were first mesmerized by one of the most iconic vampire performances on screen. In an interview shared on Comicbook.com’s Chris Killian’s Instagram , Christian Slater discussed how he and Cruise were reflecting on the project. The pair expressed a mutual astonishment over the movie's lack of a sequel despite their roles becoming fan favorites. He recounted:

Tom Cruise and I were both surprised that Interview With The Vampire didn’t get a sequel. You know, that would have been fun. Uh, I mean, he did bite me at the end of that thing.

For my money, even three decades since its release, Interview With The Vampire is still one of the best vampire movies ever committed to celluloid. Upon release, it was a critical and financial success, becoming one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror films of 1994, and grew to become a goth cult favorite. Not to mention, it introduced the broader world to actress Kirsten Dunst , a role Cruise helped the young actress secure thanks to some very practical advice.

The Enduring Legacy of 'Interview With the Vampire'

Tom Cruise's electrifying turn as the vampire Lestat was central to the film’s success. Initially, Anne Rice, the source material's author, hated Cruise’s casting in the role. However, his performance won her over and helped cement the film's place in cinematic history. Despite this success and the buzz around it, plans to continue Lestat's story with Cruise in a sequel never came to fruition. While the potential for a direct follow-up to this beloved film sparked plenty of discussions, ultimately, those plans remained just out of reach, leaving fans to wonder what might have been.

There was anticipation over a sequel starring the Top Gun A-lister, yet various factors, including rights issues, changes in production companies, and creative decisions, led to a different path for the book to screen adaptations of Rice's novels.

The next film in the series, Queen of the Damned, starring the late singer and actress Aaliyah , was released in 2002, but it did not involve Tom Cruise. Instead, Stuart Townsend took over the role of Lestat. The film combined elements from the second and third books of Rice's series, The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned . Still, it diverged significantly from the source material and did not continue directly from where Interview left off.

Interview With The Vampire is enjoying a second adaptation and return to screens as a television series, which is gearing up for its second season on AMC .

The Possibility Of A Sequel With Cruise

The ending of Interview with the Vampire set the stage perfectly for a sequel. It left audiences reeling from its final twist and introduced a new narrative thread with Daniel, the San Francisco reporter who becomes enthralled with Louis's tale of the undead. As Christian Slater hinted in the recent interview, the setup was ideal for a follow-up. Yet, despite the ripe storytelling potential, a direct continuation wasn't in the cards. Could a sequel with Cruise still happen? As the interviewers and Slater point out, Tom Cruise barely looks like he's aged since the last time he put on the Vampire Lestat's fangs. So, never say never.

Christian Slater's most recent work, another book adaptation, the series The Spiderwick Chronicles , is available now for free on The Roku Channel . Be sure to check out our 2024 movie schedule to see what upcoming horror movies are heading to a screen near you.

“Don’t touch the watch”: American Psycho Had to Change a Quote from the Original Book After Christian Bale Wasn’t Allowed to Wear a Rolex

P roduct placements have been a thing in movies for decades, as companies are often enticed to link themselves with popular IPs to boost brand recognition. However, this isn’t always the case, as there have been instances when brands have tried to distance themselves from certain projects, which delves into more controversial subjects.

Similar was the case for American Psycho , as Rolex was against Patrick Bateman wearing their watch due to the character’s actions, forcing the creators to change one quote from the book.

Rolex Didn’t Want to Associate Themselves With Patrick Bateman

In  Bret Easton Ellis’ book, Patrick Bateman wears a Rolex Datejust, which is mentioned 26 times throughout the novel, including the time when he’s in bed with two prostitutes, and delivers the line: “Don’t touch the Rolex” . But in the  Mary Harron-led adaptation , starring Christian Bale, it’s replaced with the quote “Don’t touch the watch” .

“Time healed those wounds. But it took a while”: The Disney Movie Even Christian Bale Hates Starring in Has the Most Haunting Box Office Record

The reason behind it was Rolex’s refusal to let Bateman wear their watch, but they did agree to let other characters wear them in the film. But Rolex wasn’t the lone brand that wasn’t onboard to associate themselves with the psychotic killer, as other notable brands, including Calvin Klein and Comme des Garçons, pulled out too.

Christian Bale Took Inspiration From Tom Cruise for American Psycho

According to Mary Harron, Tom Cruise served as a massive inspiration for Christian Bale ‘s Patrick Bateman. After a lot of talks with the actor over the phone, Harron recalled that Bale eventually came up with the idea of using Cruise’s real-life interviews as the basis for Bateman’s mannerisms.

“This man has too much range”: Christian Bale’s First Look as Frankenstein’s Monster is Straight Out of Nightmares as Batman Star Sets Another Body Transformation

Bale found the Mission: Impossible star’s intense friendliness “with nothing behind the eyes” perfectly fitting for his character, who became synonymous with the executive style.

Harron recalled :

“It was definitely a process. We talked a lot, but he was in L.A. and I was in New York. We didn’t actually meet in person a lot, just talked on the phone. We talked about how Martian-like Patrick Bateman was, how he was looking at the world like somebody from another planet, watching what people did and trying to work out the right way to behave. And then one day he called me and he had been watching Tom Cruise on David Letterman, and he just had this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes, and he was really taken with this energy.”

While American Psycho wasn’t a colossal success upon its release, it did end up making a decent collection, grossing over $34 million on a budget of  $7 million . Moreover, the film would eventually go on to garner a cult following after hitting the physical market in 2005.
