Reviews from Our Guests
“We did the house & village tour as well as the bus tour and it was all very interesting & informative. Everyone in the village & on the bus tour were very friendly. The bus driver went out of his way to show & explain about the Amish houses and the English houses and show things with descriptions about the homes & schools. We stopped at an Amish store & were able to purchase some foods that the lady had made(sticky buns, ketchup, whoopie pies, pickles and all were delicious!!! The tour of the Amish home was very informative. My granddaughters 12 & 14 also enjoyed the tour, the bus ride, & feeding the animals in the barn area around the village. Would highly recommend if you have 3 hours to spend in Lancaster & I recommend doing all the parts of the tour!!”
“This is a very interesting tour to take that’s also family friendly. I took my 2 children both under 5 and they had a great time learning and feeding the animals. Would highly recommend it.”
“Our tour guide was local. She’s very knowledgeable about the Amish way of life. We enjoyed our bus tour to the Amish farm and those nice freshly baked warm buttery pretzels are to die for. Made our trip a memorable one.”
“Our office took a group of international students from different countries all over the world to hear about an interesting part of our culture that takes place right here in Lancaster County. Though, it was a little cold, the students had a blast! It was such a great experience. Highly recommend!”
“Decided to take a back road trip in PA and came upon the bus tour with The Amish Village. The staff were very pleasant and got all 7 of us on the last tour bus. Our Guide Wayne was extremely knowledgeable about the area and the life of the Amish families there. I was very impressed and my grand kids ages 8 and 6 surprisingly listened intently and asked questions. I also learned several things that I was not aware of. If given the chance I would repeat this tour and I would also recommend to my friends and other family to take it as well.”

This experience is so wonderful. Our tour guide was excellent and the content was very educational. We enjoyed learning about Amish home life during the house tour, and the attached little farm and schoolhouse was also nice to stroll through. The scooter track was VERY fun :) Nice gift shop. The bus tour guide was so friendly and took us to some very special places. We interacted with Amish in intimate small groups and were able to purchase fresh baked items from the hands that made them, hot chocolate and hand made decor/goods! We also went to an Amish owned store with other yummy treats and crafts/goods. It was so amazing to see them plowing their fields with horses! Loved this Amish Farm and House and bus tour and highly highly recommend!

I was first hesitant to visit here due to the comments of others about it being next to a Target. And yes, it's literally next to a Target, but it's so much more! We have children ages 10,9 and 6. We did the 90min bus tour of the Amish countryside, and we all enjoyed this. You get to have someone drive you all around the county seeing Amish and Mennonite farms. You make two stops for about 15min each to shop and explore two farms. Back at the Amish house, we took the house tour and our guide was fantastic and thorough. She kept the attention of all the kids in our group and it was facinating. The kids took an additional hour exploring outside. They have barns, blacksmith shop, available food, carriage rides, etc. When you are at the farm you have no idea you are next to a Target. And the animals! Our kids pet horses, donkeys, goats and chased chickens... Many interactions with animals if you like. It was a worthwhile afternoon and we all learned!

Is Lancaster a Walkable City?
The answer is a resounding yes! Lancaster is ranked as the most walkable city in the Commonwealth, scoring an 81 out of 100 on its Walk Score meaning people in Lancaster can reach an average of seven restaurants, bars, and shops within a 5-minute walk. Some of the best areas for walking are the Lancaster Central Business District, Musser Park, and Chestnut Hill, which all have scores in the 90s. Try one of these spots if you're looking for things to do in Lancaster, Pennsylvania without a car.
Walking not your thing? Lancaster also has many rental car options and a healthy public transportation system run by the Red Rose Transit Authority. Nevertheless, the city's walkability makes it an easy visit for almost everyone traveling without a car.
What Food Is Lancaster Known For?
Since Lancaster has so many unique cultural influences from the Pennsylvania Dutch, Amish, and German communities, you'll find some uncommon yet delicious delicacies in the region. Visiting Lancaster gives you a large variety of food options ranging from casual restaurants to fine dining, some of which offer Lancaster specialties, such as:
- Whoopie pie: Fun fact — They're not a “pie” in the traditional sense of the word, but feature two cakey sponges with some type of creamy filling in between, and Lancaster just happens to be the birthplace of this tasty treat! While “traditional” whoopie pies feature chocolate cake and a buttercream filling, there are now as many varieties as there are flavors of cake and fillings! So shout, “Whoopie”!
- Scrapple: Scrapple is an interesting mixture of pork scraps (hence, the name “scrapple”) and trimmings, cornmeal, wheat flour, and spices made into a loaf and fried in slices. While usually served at breakfast, the Food Network has dubbed this flavorful dish “American paté ” that can be served all throughout the day.
- Stroopies: Stroopies are derived from the Dutch treat stroopwafel, which litterally means syrup waffle. They're made by sandwiching homemade caramel between round, chewy cinnamon waffles. You can find authentic stroopies at the Lancaster Sweet Shoppe where they're made fresh off the waffle-presses each day and you can even find them in a variety of shapes and flavors.
- Chow chow: Not to be confused with the dog breed, chow chow is a Pennsylvania Amish relish made with a sweet brine and veggies , often made and served in late summer and early fall when loads of vegetables are at their peak for picking. You'll often find chow chow crafted from green and lima beans, carrots, corn, cauliflower, and other vegetables
And that's just the tip of the iceberg! Lancaster boasts many regional dishes that set its cuisine apart.

In 1954, the play, "Plain and Fancy" was a smash hit on Broadway. The Broadway hit drew a spotlight as the play was featured around the Amish lifestyle and their home: Lancaster County. This was the tipping point of a tourist boom the progressively grew from 25,000 annual visitors to 2,000,000 by 1960. Due to the increase of tourists and invasion of privacy of the Amish, Lancaster-local Adolph Neuber believed that there should be a place to accurately learn about the Amish, while respecting their privacy. An Amish family opened their home and property to visitors for tours. Since 1955, The Amish Farm and House has been connecting the Amish community and the public. No, that would kind of be gross being that there was a petting zoo right there

TIM # 7 bus Driver and Tour guide EXTRAORDINAIRE. THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING TOUR. Gave my wife and I plus 6 other riders including 2 children a very Educational explanation of The Amish Way of Life. He made us all feel comfortable & treated us all as Individuals. We made a few stops along the way. My wife picked up Honey and I purchased 2 Amish metal buggies for my granddaughter, one open and one closed buggy. Tim was both humorous and spoke well of the differences and likenesses between The Amish & The Mennonite People. Would go again because there is so much to learn. Highy Recommend THE AMISH FARM AND HOUSE BOTH for the Shuttle Tour and Amish House Tour done by Heidi (Tour Guide who really knows her historical and present information.) She really knew her stuff. Thank you. ALL EMPLOYEES WERE HOSPITABLE AND HELPFUL. We also met Chris, a detailed WOOD CARVER with a few written books that he authored. Little village outside. Very nice. THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES. ENJOY YOUR TIME W YOUR FAMILIES. FOR MOMS, DADS, CHILDREN, GRANDMOMS, GRANDPOPS, GRANDCHILDREN, AND A GREAT INEXPENSIVE DATE. VERY SPECIAL, RICH & KATHY FROM COLLEGEVILLE PA, NEAR PHILADELPHIA
absolutely beautiful The guide knew everything that needed to be known about the Amish We actually got a special tour to see all the little baby goats that was just born Even the barbecue place right outside was fantastic. Food was great. I loved the meadow tea that was homemade not. Everybody likes it though. Kind of taste like Jager Meister lol but the homemade root beer is absolutely delicious.
fantastic place to visit people are so friendly the wood man that carves wooden things is amazing and knows everything !! food was great
We had low expectations because this place is 10 feet away from Target in a strip mall, but this place was totally worth it. My kids were begging to meet real Amish which we were able to do here. We met an older woman who answered some of our questions (apparently the younger kids these days have cell phones but she personally has a phone line she shares with several other homes). There are also tour guides who seemed quite knowledgeable (did you know Amish only go to school through 8th grade?). We also loved speaking with the woodworker who wasn't Amish but knew a lot about them and genuinely loved answering my kids' questions - we talked to him for more than 30 minutes and he never once expressed irritation. There are also farm animals to see which my kids also enjoyed, though really the main attraction for us was learning what Amish are really like. Don't forget the soft pretzels from the BBQ stand run by real Amish. We came at the end of the day when they were cleaning up but they were still super delicious and soft!
My family and I took the Classic Bus Tour and we all had a wonderful time. Carol was a fantastic guide, and we lucked out during our 2nd stop when a wagon full of children stopped to sing Christmas Carols! It was such a special way to celebrate Christmas week. We purchased some home made potato chips, baked goods, and a "quillow" (quilt that turns into a pillow!) along the way.
Great Christmas Cookie Tour. Our guide was Lynn. She was very informative and cheerful.
Very good house your the guide told some good stories keeping us interested. The tour ran over and we had to rush to our bus tour but we didn't mind due to the stories. Only critique is she got a bit snippy with us over my two year old making noise, calling us out in front of the whole group embarrassing us. Bus tour was the best part. The tour guide was also very informative explaining to us the differences in the homes English versus non-English. However, I felt a bit rushed at the two stops. I did not have time to buy anything in the crafts shops and I wanted to as the bus driver was rushing us back on as we were eating ice cream still. The 2nd stop samething I wanted to buy jam but again the bus driver rushed us back on the bus. The farm was very enjoyable for my family and littlest ones. We spent sone time just exploring and this was fun. No issues with the farm keep it up. Overall, good trip and we would do it again!
Went here on Tuesday May 23rd with my family as part of our lancaster, PA Vacation. This is my first time coming into this place, although may have been to this one when i was little, not quite sure. Anyways, there are 3 tours that one can choose from, you can take a bus ride, and you can tour the house and the grounds. We paid to just tour the house and the grounds. The house was pretty nice and provided an insight on amish life. i learned that they do use batteries, as well as solar power, and that they do vote since certain zoning laws can create problems for their farm. The house was very nice, from seeing an amish kitchen table to seeing a women's bedroom. What a simple life for the amish. Also learned that it can be hard to become amish. This can be unique to the tour guide though but i do wish that they would have referenced "Buster's Amish Mismatch", which was an arthur episode where buster was inspired by the amish, and wanted to become one, and i think at the end of it, they do a barn raising, which is something the real amish would do probably. Anyways, she also could have mentioned that there are old amish ways, and new amish ways. Anyways, after the tour, we searched around the grounds of the house. Pretty beautiful with nature and all the different animals! There are also great picture spots with an amish buggy one can sit in. Overall a great stop and highly recommend!

3,5 It didn't start off great, to be honest. We walked in to buy our tickets, and we were immediately asked if we had reservations. Nope, because we just wanted the house and farm tour, and the website said no reservations were required. And the lady said, "Well, you should've called!" in a sort of chastising tone. HUH? Anyway, we actually found the tour guide to be nice and informative, and we learned alot - she spent a lot of time at the beginning of the tour going through the first three rooms, and then really rushed at the end. My favorite part of the the farm itself (not much was open) was the scooter tour! So much fun even if it was only for 2 minutes that we did it a couple of times since no one else was there - and we lucked out on a beautiful day, and the image of the colorful Amish dresses hanging on the laundry line made for a great photo opportunity.
Great tour by Tim! He is very knowledgeable about the history and lives of the Amish people! He answered all of our questions, and is very personable. Chris, the master woodcarver is amazing, his shop is a must see, and Rachael's shop, where she hand makes her sewn crafts is also a treasure find. The Ribs and homemade rootbeer were excellent, and worth the trip all by itself! In short, we all had a great time!
First time cookie tour Well organized and was a good time meeting the families Met 3 of the possible 16 houses Even one sang to us. Very informative as well
