At going on 59 with a disability, I purchased this bike 2nd hand. It is well worth it. Hadn't ridden in years. This bike is easy to shift, lightweight and has everything I need in a bike, with the exception of a better seat. It wasn't the right fit and purchased one that fit better. It is quiet and smooth when shifting. I wish I had found out earlier that it's worth purchasing a Trek over a Schwinn, which was my former favorite bike. It is a misty-greenish color. I have never taken it off road. I ride on paved trails with slight hills.

The seat is so-so.

I have had the pleasure of riding a Trek 7200 Hybrid since 2007 and have enjoyed every ride taken ! We just passed 25,000 miles this week, in fact, heading to my 30,000 mile goal for this superior bike by end 2020. The bike rides very smoothly and handles beautifully under road and mild off road conditions. I'd seriously consider refurbishing this machine at the 30,000 mile mark rather than buy new given the nearly perfect "fit" for my riding style ! The Trek 7200 is my recommendation for anyone, beginner or seasoned rider, who is looking for both comfort and performance in a bike. I am a delighted customer for for the Trek 7200 Hybrid !

I've replaced the rear rim three times so far, with an average mileage of ~7,000 miles per rim. It's aluminum and prone toward cracking at the spoke connection as I understand from the shop pros. Otherwise maintenance has been reasonably minor and normal given the overall mileage and age of the bike. The cracked seat post last week was a true surprise and could have been a real inconvenience if I'd been further than the three miles from home that I was then. I'll put that one on age and mileage though.

I have had this bike for 10+ years, have ridden thousands of miles on it, have never had it tuned up (while I probably should), have pulled all 4 of my children with it over the years in several bike trailers, which the bike has outlasted. I currently ride it 4 or 5 times a week and go between 7 and 20 miles pulling my almost 3 year old daughter. She loves the long rides through the forest preserves near my home (paved trails). I am looking to get a new bike because while this bike is a work horse and has never failed me, I do get burned by all the guys on road bikes (when I am riding alone). I want something where I can keep up with the faster bikes when I ride by myself but have no plans to get rid of this bike for pulling my daughter. It still shifts great, brakes work great, and I have no issue riding up huge hills pulling a trailer. My one complaint would be that the frame only enough room for one water bottle but not really an issue as I just throw more water in the trailer :)

A little heavy compared to current bikes.

Original owner from 2004. On long rides or daily commuting, just a great bike. Just like every bike, make sure you're fitted properly at a good dealer. Replaced the tires yesterday for the first time after 2000 miles. Took 30 minutes. Go to YouTube and EBay and save $50.00. First changes or adjustments of any type in 12 years. Would buy a Trek again and again. Ride on people. :-)))

HEAVY bicycle.

I bought this sample new some 7 years ago, and it is likely to be in use by me, at least another 8, or 9 years, when aging (now I am 61) may force me to buy a much lighter one, paying a lot of money. I use bikes everyday for going to work, since 45 years ago. This one uphold a front wheel motor. I have exchanged the saddle some day, and disassembled the headset, on behalf of a short lasting concubine. Afterwards I owned an electric bicycle for some 8 months. till I realized that if I continue lazy I will die earlier. Back to the FX 7200, my headset needed a part or two I extracted some day in the past. I went to the city Trek branch (Natania, Israel), who look at me as a sort of paleo man, wanted I leave them the bicycle to update the full headset to the last cry of mode, or I buy a cheapo bike they offered me. Meaning I had a sort of trashy bike to get rid of. But from reading the internet, from my additional incursions into eBay, I knew these folks in Israel had no idea of the worldwide availability of older bikes, parts, youtube how to videos, etc. It took me to days of work to understand the job myself, and thus from the abovementioned folks I bought some parts. My fx is running again like a fly, and will do for years to come. Now all parts are at their mid age flourishing like a pair of used leather shoes. FX 7200 is the choice of my common sense.

Durable. Nothing breaks and I've never been stranded anywhere. I did have one accident, but fortunately my left hand, arm and leg protected the bike from getting scratched.

Maybe it's my weakness. I'm 5' 8"--the frame is a little tall for me. However, I do enjoy the high riding position.

I've added some accessories (bottle cages, trip computer, tool bag) but the mechanicals are pretty much stock. Very reliable, simple, easy to work on. I'm big on routine preventive maintenance. Bought it when I was 59 and now I'm 69. In the early years with this bike, I did maybe 30 miles a day, 62 on a Saturday. I've slowed down some but still get in some good rides in our East Texas boonies. When I tell my non bike friends what I have invested in it, their response is always the same "but I can buy a bike at WalMart for $99". Once they ride with me, they figure it out in a hurry.

It was able to fit me like a glove. Comfort, Durability.

I really couldn't find a weakness. The brakes had to be adjusted more then usually.

This is the best bike I have ever had. I am 6'3" 225. Most bikes can't handle me. This one could and still had more room to play with.

This is one tough bike. It is extremely durable and even though mine is regularly ridden and is nearing 8 years of age it still looks and rides like new.

The seat is too hard.

This is a perfect bike for the city, a bike that can easily cope with mounting gutters, potholes and gravel, but is light enough to be nimble and ridden with speed. This is easily the best bicycle I've owned.

Few characters from 'Grey's' is as memorable as this one.

Grey’s Anatomy ’s latest season marks its 20-year anniversary. The ten-episode batch will be the shortest since Season 1, but it’s still bound to pack some punches. Blasts from the past are already assured with the return of Arizona Robbins ( Jessica Capshaw ) and Nico Kim ( Alex Landi ), who have been absent since Season 14 and Season 18, respectively. But 20 years are easier said than done and — to truly celebrate the event — the show should go further back in time and bring in a doctor from the show’s earliest days.

The way things ended with Izzie Stevens ( Katherine Heigl ) and her eventual involvement in the departure of Alex Karev ( Justin Chambers ) make their returns not much anticipated. Conversely, if the cardiothoracic mastermind, the one and only Cristina Yang ( Sandra Oh ), were to return, the show’s anniversary would feel like a true celebration . Ever since she left to Switzerland at the end of Season 10, she hasn’t been seen again in the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial. Her presence can still be felt every now and then when she communicates virtually with Meredith ( Ellen Pompeo ). But we’ve yet to see her come back in full form and, what better moment than the show’s milestone season?

Cristina Yang Has the Best Character Arc in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

While character development for some long-running characters like Meredith has varied in quality over the years – with others cut short, like Izzie – Cristina’s arc can be easily singled out as the best one, marked with a swift beginning and a dignified ending . Her early days as an eager intern quickly defined her personality as an overachiever. But her personal development in further seasons showed the layers inside after she lowered her walls. Cristina loved and was loved in return by Preston Burke ( Isaiah Washington ), but was left at the altar as an act of love by him, knowing her true love was her calling as a doctor . And her becoming an expert surgeon is a delightful journey to see.

From that moment on, Cristina never goes back to only being a surgical robot, allowing herself to be in intricate relationships and friendships instead. For a brief time, she married Owen ( Kevin McKidd ), supporting him through his PTSD episodes. She bonds with Callie ( Sara Ramirez ) when they become roommates. The aftermath of the infamous plane crash sees her moving to Minnesota, where she befriends elder surgeon Craig ( William Daniels ). She eventually comes back to Seattle, where Derek ( Patrick Dempsey ) helps her overcome her trauma and grief. But it’s her relationship with her person, Meredith – a.k.a. the Twisted Sisters – that is the highlight of the show and of modern-day TV friendships . Their raw one-on-ones, their unspoken affection, and their dances defined what Grey’s Anatomy stand for – the power of chosen family.

A Cristina Yang Return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Is Long Overdue

Since Cristina didn’t suffer the tragic fate that many other stars of the show have faced , her presence has been acknowledged throughout the seasons that followed her departure. She’s supposedly seen from behind at Derek’s funeral – because, of course, she’d have to be there for Meredith. In Season 14, when Meredith wins the Harper Avery Award, she calls her to celebrate in the distance. Perhaps her most substantial contribution is during Season 16 when she sends Meredith a “gift” in the form of Cormac Hayes ( Richard Flood ), the new Head of Pediatric Surgery. More recently, Cristina aids Addison ( Kate Walsh ) and Bailey ( Chandra Wilson ) by helping them get supplies to provide reproductive health care, following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Though it was a challenge, Grey’s Anatomy succeeded in filling the void left by Cristina’s departure, with Alex stepping up to become Meredith’s confidant, then canonizing the sisterly trio of Meredith, Amelia ( Caterina Scorsone ), and Maggie ( Kelly McCreary ). But with the most recent shake-ups that left the show without Meredith – at least in a full-time capacity – it makes total sense to bring Cristina back, even if it’s only for a sentimental encore. Cristina’s return in Season 20 would parallel that of Burke in Season 10 when he prompted her to leave Seattle to fill in his position as Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Zurich. Having Cristina back makes sense to commemorate the show’s anniversary by honoring one of its greatest characters .

However, sandra oh has expressed lack of interest in returning to ‘grey’s anatomy’.

Sandra Oh’s performance as Cristina was critically acclaimed from the start of the show. Her acting earned her a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2006, plus multiple Emmy nominations from 2005 to 2009. Clearly being a highlight of the show’s cast, the loss of her was a crippling blow at the time. But Oh went on to find other places to place her multiple talents. She’s starred in several shows and films, including highlights Killing Eve , Umma , and Quiz Lady , to name a few.

Oh has been vocal about her feelings about returning back to Grey’s Anatomy. In the LA Times podcast, Asian Enough , she was asked about a possible return for Season 17, when Meredith was battling COVID, and the answer was a simple no . She acknowledges and appreciates her growth while being a part of it but, to her, it’s now a distant memory. And it makes total sense. After so many years away, Oh is a massive star who deserves center stage, rather than just being a supporting character in someone else’s story.

Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang made a lasting impact on Grey’s Anatomy . Although she’s been absent for 10 years, she will never be forgotten . Though the possibilities of having her come back for an encore are slim, hope dies last. Her return for the milestone Season 20 would mean everything to Meredith, to the show, and to the fans. Cristina Yang is a pillar of Grey’s Anatomy , and having her back would be the best way to acknowledge the accomplishment of one of TV’s longest-running medical dramas.

Environment | researchers link pacific coast gray whale die-off to starvation.

When large numbers of gray whales began washing up along North America’s Pacific Coast nearly six years ago, marine scientists could only speculate at the reason: Was it disease? Ocean pollution? Increasing ship collisions?

Many of the doomed cetaceans looked skinny or emaciated, while others looked torn up by orcas. Some had clearly died after being struck by a ship, or getting entangled in fishing gear. Still others provided no discernible clues.

Now — after more than 700 gray whales have washed ashore in Mexico, Canada, California and other U.S. states since late 2018 — new research published Tuesday in PLOS One suggests the culprit was a critical drop in food availability in the mammals’ Arctic and sub-Arctic seafloor feeding grounds.

What remains unclear, however, is whether this malnutrition was caused by a change in the ocean, or the whales themselves.

“Did something happen to their food supply in those years that put them under acute nutritional stress and which resulted in a lot of whales being in really poor condition and dying?” said study co-author Padraig Duignan, a pathologist at the Marine Mammal Center in the Marin Headlands.

“Or did the number of whales in the population build up to such a level that they have competed with each other for food and then again, a proportion of the population died off because they couldn’t compete for the available resources?” he said.

The research builds on an investigation that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration launched in early 2019, after declaring the whale deaths an unusual mortality event, or UME. Researchers, observers and stranding coordinators across North America began working together — alerting one another to strandings; sending crews to document and collect tissue samples; and performing necropsies, the animal form of an autopsy.

The NOAA investigation recorded 690 dead whales since Jan. 1, 2019. However, researchers suspect the true number is thousands more than that. Most whales die at sea and sink to the seafloor, far beyond the sight or reach of humans.

Joshua Stewart, a quantitative ecologist at Oregon State University’s Marine Mammal Institute, who was not an author on the paper, estimates the gray whale population was reduced by half during the most recent mortality event.

“The population is 14,000 down from 27,000 or so,” he said. “That’s a big drop.”

NOAA recently declared that the die-off was over.

Every year, California gray whales make a roughly 13,000-mile round-trip journey from the chilly waters of the Arctic to the balmy lagoons of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, and back again. During the summer, they feed on a smorgasbord of bottom-dwelling invertebrates, such as shrimp-like copepods, that flourish in the mud and sand of the Bering, Chukchi and Beaufort seas. Here they mate and fill their bellies, readying themselves for the long trip south to the warm, protected nurseries of the shallow Baja estuaries.

Along the way, they dodge ships and fishing equipment, navigate polluted waters and hide from hungry orcas. They also have to contend with biotoxins and infectious diseases.

So when researchers began looking at the whales bodies, they tried to determine which of these various calamities was the primary cause of the population die-off.

Although other gray whale die-offs have occurred along the Pacific Coast, they have been less closely researched.

In 1999 and 2000, 651 whales stranded onshore, but only three whales were necropsied. Another die-off in the late 1980s was studied even less.

This time, however, the scientific investigative team was large — spread across three nations — highly coordinated, and had access to new technologies, such as drones, which enabled them to create a more thorough picture of the whales who died, and those that remained alive.

“I think funding was a big part of it as well,” said Stephen Raverty, a veterinary pathologist with the Marine Mammal Research Unit in British Columbia, and lead author of the study. “It’s really afforded an opportunity to respond to these animals. And then we’re always trying to get the information back to the First Nations community or sharing it with the public. And I think that engages more people to actually want to contribute and participate in these efforts.”

He also gave a nod to co-author Deborah Fauquier, a veterinary medical officer with the national fisheries service’s Office of Protected Resources in Silver Spring, Maryland. He said Fauquier was instrumental in organizing the sharing of information across nations, departments and individuals.

But even with such resources, studying whale die-offs is difficult.

Despite the hundreds of whales that washed ashore, researchers could only properly examine 61.

That’s because the majority of reported carcasses were either discovered weeks or months after the animal had died — and were far too decomposed for proper analysis — or they were located on remote islands, inaccessible coves, or the prows of ships at sea.

Of the 61 whales they examined, researchers determined the cause of death in just over half. Sixteen were severely emaciated and likely died of starvation; 11 died of blunt force trauma — although two of those whales were also extremely underweight; at least three bore fatal wounds from killer whales and two were tangled in fishing gear.

Overall, 18 whales were considered emaciated, 27 deemed “thin,” nine average and two fat. In the five others, nutritional state could not be determined.

One thing that was clear: The die-off wasn’t due to disease.

Large animal die-offs are often due to biotoxins, viruses or bacterial infections. The avian flu currently circulating around the globe is one example. The domoic acid outbreak during the summer of 2023, which killed hundreds of sea lions and dolphins, is another.

“We didn’t find any evidence of anything that looks like an infectious disease,” said Duignan. “There were no telltale signs of infection of any kind. And we did do a lot of testing for viruses, bacteria, toxins, and there was nothing significant.”

Now, the question is whether the gray whale population will recover, continue to decline, or has hit a level that is sustainable, considering the massive changes occurring in their summer feeding grounds.

Raverty noted that during this latest investigation, reports of unusual feeding behavior by the whales was observed relatively frequently. While the biological mantra had always been that gray whales feed only on bottom-dwelling organisms in the northern seas during the summer months — and fast for the rest of the year — reports came in of gray whales filter feeding and skimming krill off the surface, in places such as San Francisco Bay.

The ability of gray whales to adapt has long been known — but the frequency with which these behaviors were occurring suggested to some an immediate adaptive reaction to lack of food, or possibly behaviors no one had ever really paid heed.

That’s partly what is so exciting about this research, said Raverty. It enabled scientists to build a baseline upon which they can now make comparisons.

“If we look at another five or 15 years, if we get another recurrence,” he said, they’ll have this data with which to compare.

As for the future and population recovery?

“The way I think about this is … these whales aren’t going away. They’re not going to go extinct,” Stewart said. “But if the environment becomes much more marginal, we might just not see as many whales as we have had in the past when we had really robust, productive Arctic (seafloor) habitats.”
