Disney Cruise Line’s Teen Club – Vibe

Sharing is caring!

Disney Cruise Line teen club

When most people think of a Disney Cruise they imagine all types of onboard and port activities available for families. But what happens when you want to have some fun without the parents?  Aboard the Disney Dream is Vibe, a lounge for teenagers ages 14-17, to get some independent time from the family. Vibe is located in the forward area of deck 5, though the entrance is located on deck 4.  This area is  open daily  from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  Vibe is an eminent place for teenagers to visit for either a break from the family or to meet up with friends.  The entrance to Vibe is illuminated with color-changing LED lighting as you walk in, creating an exclusive feeling. Adding to the exclusive feeling is receiving a special Vibe printed key to gain access to the club.

What is in Vibe?

Located in the central room are gaming pods, an elevated table and chairs, couches, and a TV.  I found myself hanging out in the central area during most of my time there.  Sitting around the table and coloring while talking to friends I met was an activity I participated in almost everyday. It was a great way to get to know new people.

Vibe media room

Off of the central area is the gaming room. The gaming room is perfect for people who love video games or movies, TV, and film. The TV in this room is always playing a movie.  We enjoyed several movies  while I was onboard the Disney Dream.  The movies being played in the game room were mainly movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there was a huge selection of movies to choose from.   The gaming room also consists of a foosball table, video games, game tables, and a lounging area.

Vibe teen club

The final area of Vibe is the sun deck. On the sundeck are three pools and sun chairs. The day I went on the sun deck was the warmest day of my cruise and the weather was perfect to be out in, despite it being late January. It was not overheated outside and the sun was shining. The sun deck is usually open from between 2:00 PM through 5:00 PM. It is the absolutely ideal place to enjoy a sunny day.

Activities within Vibe

In the central room is a board that lists the various activities that will happen throughout the day so it helps to check in early to see what activities will be offered each day.  These activities are not listed on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app .  On the first night of the cruise, one of the activities are icebreakers for teens to get to know each other. We also played trivia based on the counselors. The counselors helped make Vibe as fun of a place as it was.  The counselors were full of energy and got us hyped up to step outside of our comfort zone and do things we wouldn’t normally do, such as karaoke. A few other activities I participated in at Vibe included a ship-wide scavenger hunt, bingo, Wii sports, crafts, and trivia, alongside multiple others. Something is always happening.

While spending time at Vibe I met so many people from various countries around the globe. Even today I still talk to the people I met on the cruise.  This post was drafted by my 14 year old daughter Abby, as a first hand perspective, after our recent mother daughter cruise.

Disney cruise kids clubs: What to know about the Oceaneer Club

Erica Silverstein

Disney cruise kids clubs are some of the best in the cruise industry. Each of Disney Cruise Line 's ships offer huge play spaces for kids, nurseries for babies and hip hangouts for teens and tweens. Plus, the line can lean into all of the Disney-owned properties and brands to enhance its youth activities; there's theming around Mickey and friends, princesses and other Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel movie characters and plotlines.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Learn more about Disney's Oceaneer Club and Lab, Edge, Vibe and the It's a Small World Nursery to see just what makes the line's kids clubs so beloved by cruising families.

What are the Disney cruise kids clubs?

disney cruise line vibe

Disney Cruise Line has one of the best kids' programs at sea, with age-appropriate hangout and play spaces for babies through older teens.

The Disney cruise kids clubs start with the It's a Small World Nursery for babies and toddlers. Its biggest kids clubs are the Oceaneer Club and Lab, connected spaces for preschool to elementary school age kids. Tweens and teens also have their own lounge spaces, called Edge and Vibe, respectively.

Disney Wish is the first ship in the fleet to offer a dedicated space for the oldest kids. The Hideaway is the Disney cruise kids club for late high school and college-age young adults.

What are the age groups for kids clubs on Disney cruises?

disney cruise line vibe

The Disney cruise kids club ages affiliated with each space are as follows:

  • It's a Small World Nursery: 6 months to 3 years old
  • Oceaneer Club and Lab: 3 to 10 years old and fully toilet trained
  • Edge: 11 to 14 years old
  • Vibe: 14 to 17 years old
  • The Hideaway: 18 to 20 years old

Note for sailings departing prior to December 21, 2023, the Oceaneer Club is accessible to kids up to age 12, giving middle schoolers the choice between the club and Edge. Based on guest feedback, Disney has made a change to bump 11- and 12-year-olds to Edge, beginning with cruises departing December 21 or after.

Disney Cruise Line makes sure their age group policies fit an array of preferences. You'll notice some overlap in the Disney cruise kids club ages. That's because Disney understands that siblings or travel companions of different ages might want to go to the kids clubs together; it also recognizes that kids at the ends of the age ranges have different maturity levels and interests.

For example, 14-year-olds can choose if they prefer to hang out with younger middle schoolers or older teens, depending on where they feel comfortable. A young 3-year-old might feel more comfortable in the smaller nursery than in the large, choose-your-own-adventure Oceaneer Club.

In addition, parents can sign a permission form allowing mature 10-year-olds to go to Edge and 13-year-olds to go to the teen club Vibe on a Disney cruise. This is especially useful if younger kids want to be in the same group with older friends or family.

How does the kids club on a Disney cruise work?

Parents or other responsible adults should register their kids and teens for the Disney cruise kids club either online pre-cruise or on embarkation day once on board. Kids will receive a wristband (or a special coded cruise card) that enables them to sign in and out of the clubs.

Special activities in each of the clubs will be listed in the daily schedule on the Disney cruise Navigator app. Kids can also choose to participate in the always-available activities at the clubs instead. In the connected Oceaneer Club and Lab, for example, multiple activities will be happening at once, and kids can choose what interests them. Youth counselors will assist the littlest cruisers in finding a suitable activity. Reservations are not necessary.

Parents must sign their children in and out of the Disney kids club until they're 8 years old. Parents can choose to give older kids permission to sign themselves in and out. Tweens and teens can come and go from Edge and Vibe as they please.

Children with special needs are allowed at the youth activities and kids clubs. However, they must be toilet trained and able to participate in the activities and interact with other kids in the clubs without special assistance.

What activities are available for kids in the Disney Oceaneer Club and Lab?

disney cruise line vibe

On ships with a separate Oceaneer Club and Lab, the Club activities will skew a bit younger and the Lab activities a bit older. Disney Wish and Disney Treasure feature just the Oceaneer Club for all activities. Counselors also invite 3- and 4-year-olds to attend special guided activities.

Activities in the Oceaneer Club might include arts and crafts at Tinkerbell's Pixie Hollow, playtime in Andy's Room with Toy Story-themed play structures or a Star Wars-themed flight simulator game in the Millennium Falcon area. Kids can meet characters, listen to stories, dress up and watch Disney movies. Signature activities include Jedi and Lion Guard training, Woody's roundup with games and stories and Mickey's Roadster Races.

The nautical-themed Oceaneer Lab might include the Animator's Studio for crafts, a media room for movies and video games and the Wheelhouse for interactive video games. Some ships have Magic PlayFloors where you work up a sweat playing virtual games. Fan favorites include carving race cars out of soap in the Piston Cup Challenge, making a mess with Super Sloppy Science and baking chocolate chip cookies.

On Pirate Night, expect pirate-themed activities, perhaps with an appearance from Captain Hook.

What activities are available for tweens and teens in Edge and Vibe on a Disney cruise?

disney cruise line vibe

Edge is the tween club, and it offers a mix of structured activities that 11- to 14-year-olds would enjoy, plus time for board games, video games and crafts. The cool hangout space is tricked out with giant TVs, gaming consoles, comfy seating, and tables and chairs that can be commandeered for various activities.

On Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, it's in the ship's forward faux funnel. On Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, the room is designed to look like an old ship's boiler room. On Disney Wish, the space is inspired by a New York City loft, complete with a faux grass picnic area.

Scheduled events might include karaoke, improv class, trivia games, foosball or video game challenges, crafts, scavenger hunts, and parties with photo booths and dancing.

The teen club Vibe is even more laid-back with spaces for teens to chill out. They also offer group activities led by cool counselors. Of course, kids can lounge about and chat with new friends, play video games and watch movies, or sunbathe on ships where Vibe has its own outdoor sun deck.

Scheduled activities might include movie making, a shipwide game of Gotcha, karaoke competitions, talent shows and group games.

On Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, Vibe has a secret entrance off the ship's promenade deck, a high-tech media room, a central pit for group gatherings, and a sun deck with a hot tub and plunge pool. On Disney Wonder and Disney Magic, the teens get the faux funnel space with an industrial vibe and multiple TVs for gaming and movies. On Disney Wish, Vibe is inspired by an artist's loft in Paris, with floor-to-ceiling windows.

That sounds cool. Can adults go into the kids club on Disney cruises?

disney cruise line vibe

Yes, but not when drop-off kid programming is going on.

Disney Cruise Line ships schedule open houses in the different kids and teens clubs each day. During this time, anyone — adult or kid — can come and try out the kids club features. That means adults can fly the Millennium Falcon or play video games, toddlers can crawl around Andy's room with their caregivers and younger kids can check out the hip teen spaces.

Usually, when the Disney Oceaneer Club or Lab is having an open house, there will be drop-off programming in the other space.

Additionally, Disney Wish is the first ship to have a hangout for young adults ages 18 to 20. Newly minted adults can hang out in The Hideaway, which features a dance floor and DJ booth, as well as lounge space.

How do I use the It's a Small World Nursery on a Disney cruise?

disney cruise line vibe

Families with children ages 6 months to 3 years can drop off their children for highly supervised playtime at the It's a Small World Nursery. Unlike the other kids clubs on board, the nursery is not free. Families will pay $9 per child, per hour ($8 for each additional child in the same family).

The nursery is also not a drop-in-at-will space. Parents must sign up for hour-long slots in advance. You can book up to 10 hours per child before your cruise and add or adjust hours once on board. The advice is to prebook the most important spots, such as when the adults have booked a special meal, spa treatment or shore excursion.

At the nursery, kids can play with age-appropriate toys, watch movies and cartoons, and listen to stories. Cribs are available for nap time in a quiet room separate from the playroom.

Parents and caregivers dropping off their children may send them with baby food and formula or milk; diapers, wipes and pull-ups; a change of clothes; blanket and/or pacifier.

Children with special needs are welcome at the nursery.

What time do the kids clubs open on Disney Cruises?

disney cruise line vibe

Typically, the kids clubs open at 9 a.m. (or whenever the ship arrives in port) and close at midnight. Edge and Vibe's open hours vary but often run from 10 a.m. until 1 a.m.

Are Disney cruise kids clubs free? How much does Disney cruise daycare cost?

Disney cruise kids clubs are free to use throughout the day and evening. Unlike other other cruise lines, the late-night open hours do not incur a fee.

The exception is the It's a Small World Nursery, which charges by the hour. The fee is $9 per child per hour ($8 for each additional child within the same family). You can cancel up to four hours before your reservation time with no penalty. If you cancel after that time, you'll have to pay half the fee. No-shows must pay the total amount.

What else does Disney Cruise Line offer families with children?

disney cruise line vibe

Kid-friendly activities do not just take place in the Disney cruise kids clubs. Disney Cruise Line ships offer a huge array of events and attractions for young cruisers.

All ships have pools, splash areas and waterslides or rides, as well as movies both on the pool deck and in a dedicated theater. Activities for the whole family take place in the D Lounge and might include games shows, trivia, crafts and karaoke.

Disney's Broadway-style shows and evening deck parties are designed with kids in mind. Kids can meet and pose with photos with their favorite characters and princesses, or join them for dance parties. For a fee, children can get princess and pirate makeovers in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or attend a tea party with princess hostesses.

Bottom line: Disney cruise kids club

Whether your kids are 6 months, 6 years or 16 years, they will find something to love about the kids clubs on Disney Cruise Line ships. Your child might beg to stay in the Disney cruise kids clubs all day or just attend for specific activities. Still, your entire family will always find a ton of activities to keep them busy and happy from sunrise to bedtime on a Disney cruise vacation.

Vibe’s outdoor sundeck at the ship’s bow lets teens work on their tan without ever having to leave their private club or deal with the little ones on the crowded pool deck. Deck games such as ping–pong, foosball and “old school” board games set on a giant checkerboard floor offer further amusements. As well as the plunge pools.

We recently cruised on the Disney Dream and were able to register both our 16 year old and 13.5 year old, since he had an older sibling. This way they could hangout together. It’s worth asking if you have a teen on the cusp of 14. I merely pointed at my younger son after registering the older one and said, he’s only 13 and the cast member cut me off immediately saying, no problem we make exceptions for 13 when they have a sibling and got him registered.

Strictly for Teens

To ensure that Vibe remains a space that’s just for them, teens must present a special coded Key to the World card to access the lounge. On the first day of your cruise, visit Vibe during the Open House and register your teen. They will be given a new Key to the World Card to replace the one given to them at check-in, which will allow them entry into Vibe as well as everything else it is used for.

Per the official Disney statement, children 11 through 12 may visit Edge as Edge will continue to be available to tweens 11 through 14. Vibe will continue providing guests ages 14 through 17 with their special place to “connect with other teens.”

PHOTOS: Vibe Teen Club on the Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line’s vibe is a hangout and play space for guests ages 14 to 17. The age range for Vibe overlaps with that of Edge (ages 11-14). Families with 14-year-olds may choose either Edge or Vibe. Once you select a club, you must stick with it for the duration of your sailing. A family might choose one club or another due to the child’s maturity or temperament or because they are sailing with siblings/cousins/friends that are restricted to one age group or the other.

Hours at Vibe vary depending on the ship’s location each day, with longer open hours occurring on sea days and shorter hours on port days. At a minimum, you’ll find Edge available from at least 10:00 a.m. until midnight. Kids registered in Vibe may come and go as they please; there is no need for a parent to sign them in or out.

On the Wish, Vibe is located on Deck 12 aft, in the same area as the Hero Zone, Palo Steakhouse, and Enchanté.

Adults who want to see what happens in the club may visit during Open House hours. Check the onboard DCL Navigator app for open times during your sailing.

The Vibe club always has board games, foosball, craft projects, video games, and books available. Scheduled organized activities might include trivia games, scavenger hunts, karaoke, movies, visits to the theaters or Hero Zone, drawing classes, card tournaments, snacks (pending COVID protocols), and more.

The decor at Vibe on the Wish is meant to evoke an urban loft, but the real purpose of much of the design appears to be providing interesting backdrops for social media posts.

disney cruise line vibe

One feature of Vibe on the Wish that is different from the other DCL ships is that the room has a movable wall that can bisect the room. When the wall is extended, one half becomes The Hideaway, a dedicated space for guests ages 18-20 to hang out. Previously young adults in this age group were nomads – not able to be in Vibe and not able to be in the adult spaces where alcohol is served.

Explore the Edge & Vibe Clubs Aboard the Disney Magic

Edge and Vibe Disney Magic

Today we’re checking out the tween and teen club spaces, Edge & Vibe , aboard the Disney Magic .  Both spaces were recently renovated to update their looks while the ship was in dry dock in 2018.  Let’s take a check out at their new looks!

Edge and Vibe Disney Magic

The Disney Magic’s youth club just for tweens, ages 11-14, is the Edge.  Located mid-ship on deck 9, Edge has a “boiler room” feel, with lots of exposed pipes and valves, decorated with artwork, stickers, and drawings.  Tweens are invited to kick back and chill in the space that includes a 98″ plasma tv for movies, video game centers, arts and craft areas, a dance floor, and more.

Edge and Vibe Disney Magic

Edge also hosts a bunch of daily activities led by the activities counselors.  Kids can participate in ship-wide scavenger hunts and interactive games that encourage teamwork and fun.  There’s even a snack bar where kids can fill up on approved snacks and drinks.  Check out the video below for a quick tour of the updated space:

Edge and Vibe Disney Magic

Over on the Vibe side, teens ages 14-17 get their own private space. Located mid-ship on Deck 11, Vibe has an”urban loft” feel.  The lounge area is outfitted with the latest technology and gaming, including Nintendo Switch, iPads, and arcade games.  There’s also a large flat screen to watch movies or play video games.  Some of the quiet corners include small spaces to read or play board games as well.

Edge and Vibe Disney Magic

Its location gives you a fantastic view of the activities happening below on deck.  Teens can sit at the updated bar, serving smoothies, beverages, and coffee, and look out over the ocean.  Counselors are on hand here to keep the kids engaged in activites throught the cruise, like “Vibe Movie Makers”, where teens are invited to create and edit a movie, to be screened on the “big screen”.  Check out this video of the new teen digs:

These updates to Vibe & Edge make me want to be a kid again!  On second thought, I’ll just send my own tween to the Edge knowing she’ll be having more fun and I’ll be enjoying some “me” time on our next cruise .

Youth Clubs

Please enjoy our compiled general information on each of the DCL youth clubs.

It’s a Small World Nursery

Sure, sure the nursery isn’t exactly a club, but deserves a mention. This magical space is a valued and treasured ship resource for caring for your most precious cargo joining you under the age of three.

For details about It’s a Small World Nursery, including rate and reservation info, please visit:  https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/onboard-activities/its-a-small-world-childrens-nursery/

Oceaneer Club and Lab

Must be toilet trained!!!

Oceaneer Club/Lab is an activity center designed for kids 3 to 12 years old located on Deck 5, Midship on all four ships (Magic, Wonder, Dream & Fantasy). The operating hours varies occasionally but it’s normally from 9am till midnight better check your personal navigator daily for the exact operating hours of the club.

Oceaneer Club on Disney Wonder has a theme derived from the film Peter Pan, it resembles Captain Hook’s pirate ship straight out of Never Land. The televisions were embedded on what looks like a treasure chests, lamps that looks like the barrels, hanging ropes, wooden planks and a glistening fiber-optic night sky.

Disney’s Oceaneer Club provides a safe environment, where children can play and learn and interact with other children. They have different settings areas where children can play autonomously with toys and games, an area for arts and crafts, and even for watching movies.

On Disney Dream & Fantasy, Oceaneer Club/Lab have a different setting. Both ships have a central rotunda and each serves as the main gathering area of the club, it also leads to four different portals to the other themed rooms in the club. The rotunda also serves as the main stage for the children where they can use as a dance floor, theatrical plays, story telling and a place where they meet and greet the characters. It is also equipped with a wide screen plasma TV where they can also watch movies and interact with Crush the turtle.

Themed Spaces

Branching from the Central Rotunda Oceaneer’s Club of Disney Dream & Fantasy has 4 themed rooms:

Andy’s Room – inspired from the movie, Toy Story. Monster Academy – inspired fro the movie, Monster Inc. Pixie Hollow – inspired from the movie Tinkerbelle and Fairies Explorer Pods – is a Nemo Sub, inspired from the movie Finding Nemo

On Disney Magic, Oceaneer Club/Lab has been newly refurbished, they added new features and theme. Compared to Disney Dream and Fantasy, the central gathering place in Disney Magic is designed like a library and has 4 themed “Storybook Worlds”:

Andy’s Room – inspired by the Toy Story movie. Marvel’s Avengers Academy – inspired by the comic book Marvel’s and the Super Heroes. Mickey Mouse Club Pixie Hollow – inspired by Disney Fairies animated film.

On Disney Wonder, the setup is similar to the Disney Magic and designed like a library and with 4 themed “Storybook Worlds”:

Andy’s Room – inspired by the Toy Story movie. Marvel’s Super Hero Academy – inspired by the comic book Marvel’s and the Super Heroes. Frozen Adventures – modeled after Frozen’s Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post Club Disney Junior

How do I register my child? You can register your child at the terminal during check-in or directly at the club once you board the ship. You can also pre-register online under “My Cruise Plans” once your online check-in becomes available for you for Castaway Cay silver level you can do so in 90 days prior, Gold members 105 days and Platinum 120 days prior to sailing date. For first time cruisers you can pre-register in 75 days prior. Children with special needs, food restrictions and allergies can be accommodated at the club. Just indicate it in your registration forms and notify the staff, and they will make special arrangements. Although they can’t provide one-on-one care, they will do the best they can.

On embarkation day at the terminal, parents and child(ren) need to be present at check-in. Parents will fill out final paperwork and children will receive a wristband indicating that they belong to the Oceaneer Club/Lab aboard the ship. Once on board, parents are welcomed in the club during the open house day (embarkation day) to tour the club, meet the counselors and learn the many activities offered on board for their child.

What is a wristband? Children registered at the Oceaneer Club/Lab are given wristbands that must be worn throughout the duration of your cruise. It is a water and sand proof device and securely attach to your child’s wrists or ankle depending on what you think will be comfortable for your child. It has a black or red clip (medical alert, dietary references) attached to securely hold the bands. Upon registration you will be automatically charged $12.50/registered child on your portfolio for the bands. At the end of the cruise the fee will be reimbursed upon return of the band. You can also keep it for souvenir or future use.

The wristband is used to check in/out your child at the kids club, the same process is also used at Castaway cay’s Scuttles Cove. The wristband uses a RFID – Radio Frequency Identification technology. Any child who uses certain medical device must check their device manufacturer or ask your physician if there may be possible unwanted interferences as a result of the RF transmitters embedded in the bands. Additional information about RFID please click on the link: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/my-disney-experience/frequency-technology/

The wristband when scanned will provide all your child’s vital information including any medical alert, food references and allergies, a red clip will be attached to your child’s band to alert the staff. This will also allow the Youth Club Staffs to have an accurate count of children in the club and be able to locate them while in the club premises.

Can my child check in/out by him/herself? Children ages 8 – 12 with parent’s permission can check in and out by themselves. Without the parent’s authorization they can’t leave the club. A parent must drop their child and at pick-up they need to say the password they provided at the time of registration.

Children are offered lunch and dinner at the club and for those who do not want to join, activities are still ongoing during meal times. This is the perfect time for parents wishing to eat at the adult’s only restaurant on board. There is also a “Dine and Play” program for the families dining on second seating just let your server know that you will be participating in Dine And Play. In Dine and Play program, the children receive their meals earlier and then the youth counselors will come and pick them up from the dining room and escort them to the kids club. This allows parents to enjoy their dinner at their own pace.

10 Best Cruise Lines for Teens (2024)

I f you’re planning a family vacation, you’re probably considering a cruise. After all, their all-inclusive options and kid-friendly environments make it an easy way to enjoy a getaway. But what about the teens in your group? Today we’re talking all about the best cruise lines for teens so that you can plan a vacation the whole family is sure to enjoy.

*Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you click a link and purchase something we have recommended. Please check out our  disclosure policy  for more details. Thank you for your support!

Best Cruise Lines for Teens They Are Sure to Love!

Teens can have an absolutely fantastic time on cruises, but you’ll need to make sure you’re booking ones with plenty of fun activities for them. It’s a tricky balance for many teens, since they’ll be repelled by overly cheesy programs but possibly bored with the adults-centered offerings.

However, the right ones can be a teen’s paradise, granting them a safe way to explore independently while getting in just enough quality time with the rest of the family.

That’s why we’ve gathered the best cruise lines for teens. Read on to discover our top picks that are perfect for your entire family.

1. Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean is one of the most famous cruise lines, and it’s known for having some of the biggest and most intricate ships out there. But what will your teen think of their time at sea with Royal Caribbean Cruises?

Let’s start with its most notable feature: the water slides. Royal Caribbean ships have thrilling water slides and pools that most teens will love. Plus, there is a special teen club that is separated by small age groups. Older teens and preteens will have daily activities catered just for them.

In the Teen Club, they can participate in dance parties, scavenger hunts, and video games. Who knows? They may even make new friends.

But Royal Caribbean’s newest ship is what will really wow your teen. Icon of the Seas just launched last month with the largest waterpark at sea and the first suspended infinity pool at sea.

Daring teens can try the freefalling water slide at Thrill Island, or the entire family can enjoy a show in their massive AquaTheater. This is the largest cruise ship in the world, so kids of all ages will be impressed by its size and activities.

Royal Caribbean offers destination itineraries around the world. It’s the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure.

2. Disney

Disney often gets the reputation for being for younger children (and infamous “Disney Adults”), but Disney Cruise Line is one of our top picks for teens.

“Vibe” is our number-one reason for loving Disney cruises so much. This lounge is exclusively for ages 14-17 and is staffed with great counselors who run a range of relaxed and engaging activities. Here you’ll find huge video screens, a private pool, foosball tables, and a smoothie bar.

The Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Magic ships all have teen spas on board, which is one of the most unique things we’ve seen on family vacations.

Your teen will enjoy their independence on board the Disney Cruise, but you can all come back together in the evening to enjoy dinner and all-ages entertainment. Disney knows how to create engaging productions, so the nightly live shows are be a real treat.

Off-ship, you can enjoy tropical activities like snorkeling as a family or send them off to the teen camp where counselors will show them the best of your destination.

3. Norwegian

Norwegian is another great cruise line with teen-centric activities. These group programs will entertain your teens all day while you enjoy blissful relaxation (you earned it!).

Select ships feature laser tag courses, escape rooms, go-kart tracks, and teen lounges. Many of these activities come at an extra cost, so you can do a little number-crunching to see how they compare with more all-inclusive ships. Even at a higher price, your family may find that the Norwegian experience is a perfect vacation.

The teen lounge is super relaxed and allows older children to come and go as they please. For fun-in-the-sun, the Norwegian Bliss ship has multiple waterslides, a water obstacle course, and rows of lounge chairs.

One of our favorite things about Norwegian Cruise Line is their Broadway-caliber productions that are pitch-perfect entertainment for teens.

4. UnCruise

Have you ever heard of UnCruise? This line of small cruise ships feels like a hidden gem amid a sea of mega vessels. Depending on the season, you can sail various routes in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Pacific, including a great Alaska Cruise that teens will love.

UnCruise ships hold anywhere from 20 to 85 passengers, so this is a huge difference from the other options on our best cruise lines for teens list. And the ships’ smaller sizes mean they can access places others can’t.

It also means you’ll actually spend a lot of time with your teen during your cruise. Guided adventures are perfect for families with older kids. Kayaking excursions, hikes, and snorkeling are just some of the things you can look forward to.

Meals are inventive and thoughtful, time on board is relaxed, and the sightseeing is unbeatable. You can learn more about  UnCruise adventure cruises here . Although they don’t have the non-stop teen clubs and wild water parks of other cruises, the one-of-a-kind experience will become a core memory for you and your teen.

UnCruise is also one of the best cruises for college-age kids, as their bespoke experiences are perfect for young adults.

5. Carnival

Carnival Cruise Line draws a lot of budget travelers who want a fun family vacation. But they’re not just known for their (relatively) lower costs. Carnival ships offers a party atmosphere that’s perfect for teens.

Probably their best ship for teens is the Carnival Mardis Gras, which has a rollercoaster. If that alone isn’t enough to get your teens “on board,” how about a huge arcade, loads of food, and (on select ships) a trampoline park?

Nightly entertainment is more of your standard cruise-ship fare, but it’s well done and should be engaging for the entire family. Routes can take you through the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, or international destinations.

And with regular sales and various booking options, you’ll be able to find a cruise that fits your wallet and your family’s vacation style.

6. Celebrity

Celebrity Cruise Line most often caters to an older crowd, but it’s still a lot of fun for teens – especially if you’re looking for a nice balance between family time and at-sea thrills.

On Celebrity ships, teens get an all-star treatment with pool parties, an exclusive lounge, and game tournaments. When it’s time to come together as a family, you’ll be treated to great food and top-notch service.

Celibrity’s spa menu has special services for 13-17 year olds, plus side-by-side treatments for a parent-kid spa day.

We also like how Celebrity offers immersive sightseeing programs at their destinations. Your entire family can join small group walking tours through Europe, treetop expeditions in Costa Rica, and wildlife viewing in remote locales.

7. Princess Cruises

With fewer high-octane thrills, Princess Cruises are ideal for simple pleasures. We’re thinking pool-side lounging, great dining options, classic group games, and sports activities.

But this is the perfect place for teens who may not be into giant water slides and over-the-top amenities. Many ships have a “Rock the Boat” party, video game tournaments, movies, and even dance classes.

If your family is seeking bigger thrills, their newest ship, Sun Princess , has a  hang-gliding experience, an obstacle course, and a glistening new teens lounge with a dance floor and video games.

We also recommend Princess Cruises if you are planning group travel with older family members . There are plenty of places to find peace and quiet, lounge with a good book, or sit back and watch the kids play.

8. MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises are a great budget-friendly option for family travel, as they offer great sales where kids cruise for free.

But it’s not a “cheap” experience. Sure, it’s not as flashy as the huge vessels with waterparks and roller coasters, but family members of all ages will have a great time on MSC Cruise Ships. There are pools, fantastic food, family entertainment, and themed decor.

MSC departs from Miami and New York, and they offer fun destinations like the Mediterranean and Bahamas. Their short cruises are an excellent option for families who want fun at sea but are short on time.

9. Lindblad Expeditions

True adventurers will love Lindblad Expeditions , which partners with National Geographic to offer immersive, nature-centered excursions the entire family will love. With fewer than 200 passengers on board, these cruises are super personal and hands-on.

Teens can become National Geographic Global Explorers at some of the most awe-inspiring destinations, like Alaska and the Galapagos. Field educators will guide you through the expeditions and even offer photography courses for future Nat Geo photographers.

You won’t find your typical cruise ship on-board entertainment, and your teen may miss constant wi-fi access. However, there is complimentary Starlink-enabled wi-fi available for all guests as well as internet packages available for purchase (with the exception of the Delfin II ship).

We think the complimentary wi-fi will cover their basic needs, but once they’re immersed in these incredible locations, they’ll soon forget their phones even exist. Plus, you and your teen can thoroughly enjoy all of the outdoor activities, so it’s great for family bonding.

In Ketchikan, take a hike through Tongass National Forest, the largest national forest in the U.S., where you might catch glimpses of wildlife like black bears or bald eagles. You can also head offshore from Ketchikan aboard the Aleutian Ballad, the famed ship from Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch," to pick up the day's bounty of king crab and search for marine wildlife along Alaska's Inside Passage.

Plenty of family activities and entertainment options are offered on this Norwegian Cruise Line ship, including the Bliss Speedway, a two-level racetrack at sea; laser tag; mini-golf; an interactive aqua park with waterslides that zip above the side of the ship; a video arcade; and live entertainment. You'll also find kids clubs designed for younger children and teens , as well as adults-only escapes like Vibe Beach Club and Spice H2O. This seven-night itinerary aboard Disney Wonder departs round-trip from Vancouver on several voyages throughout the 2024 Alaska season, which runs from May to September. The weeklong Disney Cruise Line sailing includes glacier viewing along the Stikine Icecap and stops in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. Plus, you'll enjoy plenty of Disney fun on board, with character meet-and-greets, Broadway-quality shows, and entertaining activities and venues for kids and adults alike.

Many of the ship's nautical-themed staterooms are designed with families in mind and feature a "split bath" concept and extra under-bed storage for suitcases. Disney Wonder can hold 1,750 passengers at double occupancy and 2,700 passengers at maximum capacity. The ship's unique rotational dining venues include an "under the sea" adventure at Triton's, a dinner show with Disney characters at Animator's Palate and Southern specialties with jazz music at Tiana's Place. For a night out sans kids, adults can savor a quiet evening with northern Italian cuisine at Palo or nosh on casual pub fare at Crown & Fin Pub. Younger sailors will find age-appropriate spaces at Disney's Oceaneer Club and Lab, tween venue Edge, and teen club Vibe.

Disney's excursions also offer family fun ashore – especially in Skagway. Try panning for gold with Disney characters like Donald Duck, then feast on baked Alaska salmon at Liarsville Gold Rush Trail Camp. You can also take an extended six-hour tour by boat into Alaska's deepest fjord, Lynn Canal, then hike through the rainforest to reach your canoe for a wilderness safari at Glacier Point. For a bucket list splurge, reserve a spot on the helicopter flightseeing tour that includes dog mushing on the Denver Glacier with a team of Alaska sled dogs.

Koningsdam features dedicated family staterooms with beds for up to five guests, two bathrooms and extra closet space. The ship carries 2,650 guests at double occupancy and 3,194 passengers at maximum capacity. A wildlife expert on the ship helps guests spot Alaska's incredible marine and land animals through announcements and during daily programs. Keep an eye out for humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, moose, brown bears and other wildlife. While in the Tracy Arm Wilderness Area, you'll want to take the Tracy Arm Fjord & Glacier Explorer excursion to explore glacier-covered mountains, jagged cliffs and the largest temperate rainforest in the U.S. surrounding the fjord. On a high-speed catamaran, you'll get up-close views of the Sawyer Glaciers and have potential sightings of harbor seals, bears, mountain goats and more.

Back on board, Holland America Line 's kids club offers supervised, age-appropriate activities for young cruisers ages 3 to 17 – including children who may need certain accommodations. You'll also find plenty of family-friendly options for dining on Koningsdam, including Lido Market, New York Pizza and the poolside Dive In grill. DCL-Disney Cruise Line reveals details of Disney Destiny at Meyer Werft ceremony

CruiseMapper logo

DCL-Disney Cruise Line has disclosed initial details regarding its upcoming vessel , the Disney Destiny , marking a significant construction milestone with a keel laying ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on March 20, 2024.

Embracing the maritime tradition of keel laying for auspicious beginnings, the Disney Destiny, a vessel steeped in legends and lore, is gradually taking form.

The design concept of the Disney Destiny, akin to her sisterships the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure , revolves around the theme of "Heroes and Villains." Drawing inspiration from cherished Disney narratives, characters, and theme park attractions, the cruise promises to offer guests a transformative experience, encouraging them to embrace their own journey on each remarkable voyage.

Collaborating closely, the DCL and Walt Disney Imagineering teams were motivated by the intrinsic dichotomy present in every iconic Disney tale. They sought to infuse the ship with this dynamic interplay of light and darkness, urging characters and guests alike to realize their true potential.

Throughout the ship, guests will encounter a myriad of heroes and villains from beloved Walt Disney Animation Studios classics such as The Lion King, Hercules, and One Hundred and One Dalmatians. These iconic characters will come to life through immersive spaces, captivating experiences, and engaging entertainment, enriching the voyage for all aboard.

In a continuation of the cherished DCL tradition, Disney unveiled exquisite filigree artwork adorning the bow of the new ship. Depicting Minnie Mouse in a courageous stance, donned in heroic attire, the illustration captures her valiant spirit as she leads guests towards their destined adventures, her cape billowing gracefully in the ocean breeze.

How did ‘9-1-1’ make it to 100 episodes “it’s characters that you want in your living room”.

Angela Bassett and co-creator Tim Minear say relatable people in wholly unrelatable situations were the secret sauce behind ABC’s popular first-responders procedural.

Bassett and Krause play first responders on their honeymoon when their cruise ship explodes in the season seven premiere.

When 9-1-1 co-creator Tim Minear signed up on Twitter (now known as X), he chose a telling handle to denote his legacy as a screenwriter and director: @Cancelledagain. “I was sort of infamous for all of my thundering failures over the years,” explains Minear. “ Firefly lasted one season, Terriers one season, The Inside one season, Drive went for six episodes. Everything was canceled, so I just called myself ‘cancelled again,’ which actually worked out for me because these are all beloved little cult shows now.”

Joshua jackson to star in ryan murphy series at abc, 'american horror story: delicate part 2' trailer unmasks kim kardashian character.

Since the series debut on Jan. 3, 2018, the procedural drama about L.A. first responders starring Angela Bassett and Peter Krause has built a reputation for taking natural catastrophes and emergency scenarios to the next level. “I can’t name another show on television that has tackled tsunamis, earthquakes, blackouts, a blimp stadium crash, a train derailment, a Hollywood dam collapse and landslide, sharks on a freeway, escaped zoo animals, an airplane crash into the ocean, a guy falling off a roller coaster, a bus crash into a side of a building, a fire truck hanging off a cliff, and now, in your season opener, a honeymoon cruise disaster complete with pirates, explosions and a capsized ship — spanning three episodes,” Karey Burke, president of 20th Television, said March 5 at 9-1-1 ’s 100th episode celebration that took place in between filming at the Bel-Air Bay Club.

It’s the believability of the characters in these stories and the visual execution of cataclysmic disasters — a testament to the creators’ philosophy of using practical effects as much as possible — that made 9-1-1 ripe for pickup when Fox failed to renew it in May after six seasons. The decision was reported to be financial, as the show remained the network’s most watched series overall and top-rated scripted series with adults 18-49 until the end. This was what Murphy set out to achieve when he first pitched the series — which draws inspiration from the 1970s NBC medical drama Emergency! — to then Fox executive and now Disney entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden. “Ryan really wanted to give her a network hit. He’s literally the only showrunner or creator that I know who can go, ‘You know what, I think it’s time to create a hit for Dana for Fox’ and do it,” says Minear.

The March 14 season seven premiere, a nod to The Poseidon Adventure , brought in 4.93 million viewers, up from season six’s 4.8 million. After three days of viewing across ABC, Hulu and other Disney digital platforms, the episode garnered a total of 8.85 million viewers, setting a streaming record for Disney.

Having cemented audiences’ interest with the high-stakes cruise ship fiasco as the season opener, Minear chose to focus on the other element of 9-1-1 that makes it a win among viewers for its 100th episode, which was directed by Lone Star ’s Chad Lowe: its cast. The story will center on the LAFD crew at Station 118 who rescues a woman intent on receiving a rose at an iconic mansion. “After doing a giant three-episode arc of a disaster for the first three episodes, when I got to episode 100, it was important that it be a regular episode,” says Minear. “You just need to say, this is what the show is. It’s character stories.”

That’s what’s made portraying LAPD patrol sergeant Athena Grant-Nash for seven seasons most rewarding for Bassett. It’s the longest role she’s ever played. “It’s very interesting to have a character that’s so beloved keep finding stories to tell, important stories to tell, and fun stories to tell,” she says.

“I enjoy the idea of blended family and exploring the changing dynamics between a husband and wife, and divorce,” Bassett adds. “I think that’s important because when people grow apart, families don’t have to break up, even after so much trauma.”

The close friendship between “Thena” and “Hen” (Aisha Hinds’ Henrietta Wilson), an openly gay firefighter paramedic — they bond over being Black women in white, male-dominated fields — is adored by viewers. “These are people who get misunderstood themselves,” says Bassett. “The most important thing I wanted people to see in portraying a Black female police officer is the compassion and the understanding that the job says that we are here to protect and to serve.”

The bromance between Evan Buckley (Oliver Stark) and Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman), known as “Buddie,” is another fan favorite. Audiences have been trying to ship the duo since they first met in the season two premiere, with Minear jokingly adding fuel to the fire in the 2019 midseason finale when he allowed the pair to be mistaken for a couple. But it’s the story arc of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Maddie Buckley, a trained nurse who works as a 9-1-1 operator, that he’s most enjoyed carrying out onscreen.

These storylines, Minear says, are what ultimately has led 9-1-1 to 100 episodes and counting. “It’s characters that you want in your living room, a found family of heroes, people that run toward danger,” he says. “We’re coming off of this incredible age of Breaking Bad and The Shield and these kind of morally compromised heroes, but there’s nothing morally compromised about our heroes. They are heroes. They are there to save you, whether they like you or not.”
