Customer Testimonials

This tour was exceptional in large part to our tour guide; Ernie was very knowledgeable and super funny! Made the whole experience quite memorable. The tour was a sobering memorial to one of the biggest events in history and was very well done. Definitely a bucket list item that we checked off! Hats off to Ernie as he really made the experience! Aloha and Mahalo!

Kaleo was amazing. He was super enthusiastic and kept the tour fun! I would gladly recommend this to anyone.

Could this tour be any better? Not in our estimation! Our guide was wonderful, brought us banana bread with sweet butter, got us to all the sights with ample time and provided an interesting running commentary most of the way! He got to know each of us and assured we were comfortable enough with each other to enjoy lunching and conversation. Bus was clean and comfortable.

One of Hawaii's Premier Experiences ★★★★★

"Stopped in on our vacation even though the actual memorial is not open to step foot on, there are other things to remember the past on site, if you do take the tour it is very knowledgeable of the past, definitely glad I brought and showed my 11-year-old daughter"

"Every U.S. citizen should see this. One of the most moving experiences of my life reliving the sacrifices made that day and all the lives lost and still entombed in the sunken ship. Great history lesson for all Americans!"

"Wonderful place to honor our fallen brothers and sisters. We did the Passport to Pearl Harbor which includes everything. It’s an entire day spent at Pearl Harbor, USS Missouri, The Bowfish Submarine, Pacific Aviation Museum and all the little extras you get from the tour guide."

"We were not able to tour the memorial itself because there were ongoing repairs, but we took a boat ride to see it, and watched an excellent film about it at the grounds. There is still a lot to see and experience, and it was well worth the trip to visit."

(5/16/23) We took in the solemn facts of the events. We had gotten the narrative headset from trip advisor with admission. We had also gotten the separate tickets from recreation.gov for $1.00 each, to go on the boat to the Arizona Memorial. It was incredibly easy and fast to gain access and enjoy our day at our pace.

Client’s Testimonials

Pick up was right on time in a luxurious van and our driver Tom was great, very professional. Spent the whole day exploring Pearl Harbor and it was absolutely amazing. Highly recommend the full day tour so you can experience everything Pearl Harbor has to offer.

It got off to a rough start. Pickup was late because of traffic but the driver got us to Pearl Harbor on time. He was very courteous and made sure we were ok before he let us go on our way. The city tour was fun.

We had an awesome time at Pearl Harbor. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and polite. We will definitely use this service again on our next trip to Hawaii.

M. Santiago

Great service. Highly recommended.

We had a smooth ride from our Waikiki hotel to the Arizona Memorial today! Our guide was very knowledgeable and upbeat, was right on time and a complete gentleman. We appreciated the great service!

My wife and I flew over from Maui for a one day visit as we wanted to see the Pearl Harbor Memorial and take a quick spin of Oahu. The flight, Pearl Harbor tour was set up as a package deal through this company. The flight was smooth, and the visit to the memorial was unforgettable. It was sobering and

We really enjoyed this tour. We were picked up right on time at our hotel and taken to the Pearl Harbor area. Our tour guide, walked us into the park and gave us all the details of where and what to see. He gave an explanation of what we would see. Everthing was well planned and our guide even pointed out several landmarks on the drive back to the hotel. Timing was perfect. I highly recommend this tour. The pickup was essentially on time. Our driver was great. Very patient and relatively soft spoken. He was a wealth of knowledge and I could tell well read. He got us to our destination on time. Explained how to get to our boat on time to the Arizona Memorial and to the Missouri. Our guide was knowledgable and we had a brief tour of downtown Honolulu and the Punchbowl. The vans were very clean and the AC worked well. The seats were comfortable and we weren’t crowded. We’ll definitely book again next time in Honolulu.

Our guide was great. He took us around and gave us great city tour showing us lots of highlights in the city. He was very knowledgeable and gave recommendations for other sights we might want to see.

Our tour guide was very prompt and professional. He was easy to understand and talked loudly enough that everyone could hear. A city tour followed our Pearl Harbor and USS Arizona Memorial Tour. Very enjoyable.

We took this tour to Pearl Harbor on a windy rainy day and that caused some disappointment. I have to say first off that our driver, was excellent and tried to make the best of it. Once we got to the memorial park we were informed it was too windy for the Park Service/Navy to drive the boat out to the memorial itself, so after waiting for our scheduled time slot to see a 20-minute movie (that was good) we were left with over an hour to kill, in the rain, waiting for our van to return. The rest of the tour was ok, with a stop at the palace for a brief photo op, and some driving through other attractions, but overall the weather killed the experience for us.

1. One of the best days to come to Pearl Harbor is on Dec 7th, this day has the most activities for visitors to experience, yet it’s one of the slowest days of the year.

2. Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum is the only Aviation Museum in the country on an actual WWII battleground.

3. A few years ago, without notice, the US Navy sailors decided to end the USS Arizona Memorial shuttle early, with the excuse of bad weather, so that they could watch the Super Bowl. This led to hundreds of complaints that afternoon to the National Park Service, which in turn went to the Admiral of Pearl Harbor the next day. Needless to say, it never happened again.

Pearl Harbor Ticket – USS Arizona Memorial Ticket

The Arizona Memorial is the most visited attraction in Hawaii. For every 5 people visiting the Hawaiian Islands, only one has the opportunity to visit the most respected monument in the United States. This is because of the limitation of Arizona Memorial Tickets with around 5,000 people visiting Pearl Harbor every day. This adds up to around 2 million people a year visiting Pearl Harbor. One question that many people ask is, “Do I need Pearl Harbor tickets?” They also ask “How do I get Pearl Harbor Tickets?” The answer to the first question is: yes. You do need tickets to go to all of the Pearl Harbor Historic sites. For the USS Arizona Memorial, there are Arizona Memorial tickets that are in high demand and require a reservation. For the USS Missouri Battleship, there are USS Missouri Battleship tickets. For the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, there are Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum tickets. For the USS Bowfin Submarine, there are USS Bowfin Submarine tickets. The only ticket at Pearl Harbor that requires a reservation is the Arizona Memorial ticket. How can you go about getting one? This article will explain how:

The Most Visited Destination on Oahu

Pearl harbor memorial.

Pearl Harbor National Memorial is like no other destination in the United States; located on a World War II battlefield, serving as a strategic naval base for the United States pacific fleet, it is here during the Japanese Dec 7, 1941, sneak attack that our country lost 2,008 sailors, 218 army soldiers, and 109 Marines. In addition, the wounded included 1,178 service members and civilians that worked at Pearl Harbor. Of the 130 ships docked within the Harbor, 21 were severely damaged or sunk, and three of our Battleships were a total loss, the Arizona  Battleship ,  USS  Oklahoma  battleship , and the  USS  Utah  battleship .  Now Ford Island is the active military base of the US Navy.

For visitors of Pearl Harbor, it’s the opportunity to see firsthand where World War II began  for the United States. Many repeat visitors return to pay their respects at the  USS  Arizona  Memorial Monument  and explore the other Pearl Harbor Historical sites.

Pearl Harbor is one of our county’s most historic locations with seven distinct destinations, each with its own World War II story to tell, each site as compelling as the next, none you and your family will want to miss. The Pearl Harbor National Memorial includes the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, the  USS  Arizona  Memorial , the  USS  Bowfin  Submarine Museum & Park , the  USS  Missouri  Memorial , the  Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum , the USS  Oklahoma  Memorial, and the USS  Utah  Memorial .

We have to credit the Navy and National Park Service for their vision, which led them to create the new $65 million Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. The Pearl Harbor National Memorial’s outdoor exhibits and museums have world-class displays. The Visitor Center offers movie documentaries with live footage of Dec 7, 1941, the day that launched the United States into WWII and the War in the Pacific.

The focal point of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial is the USS  Arizona , where 1,177 sailors and marines died when a Japanese armor-piercing bomb exploded in the ship’s ammunition magazine, which immediately sunk and ripped the ship into two. Each day, the US Navy transports the visitors to the  Arizona Memorial on a 150-passenger shuttle to allow them to pay their respects to these fallen heroes. A lot of people want to know about Pearl Harbor hour. Tours run daily, every 15 minutes, from 8 am to 3 pm.

Within the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center are museums, theaters, the USS  Bowfin  Submarine Museum & Park, the Pearl Harbor Virtual Reality Center, and a transportation depot to the USS Missouri Memorial, USS  Oklahoma  Memorial, and the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum .

If you plan to visit Oahu, do not miss your opportunity to visit the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, not only for its historical importance but where your pride and patriotism will come alive!

With over 2 million visitors per year, Pearl Harbor is the most visited site in all of the Hawaiian Islands. The USS Arizona Memorial is one of the most popular memorials at Pearl Harbor, attracting curious visitors who wish the see the sunken ship. The memorial is built on top of the sunken Battleship USS Arizona located on Battleship Row at Ford Island. The 75-minute tour includes a 25-minute film, a Navy boat ride to the USS Arizona Memorial, and time to walk through the Memorial and time to give your respects.

What You'll See

uss arizona and battleship missouri tour

Visiting the USS Arizona Memorial starts with a shuttle boat to the USS Arizona Memorial where you will board the memorial followed by an introduction by a National Park Ranger, and an impressive 23-minute documentary film. The only way to access the Arizona Memorial is by this Navy Shuttle boat on this tour.

The first room of the memorial holds flags of the states from which the eight battleships of Battleship Row were named and a state flag from Utah from which the USS Utah was named. The USS Utah was not on battleship row, but still rests in Pearl Harbor and is memorialized on the far side of Ford Island.

The second room of the memorial is the large open area where you can reflect quietly and view the remains of the sunken USS Arizona below.  Ceremonies are held in the Assembly Room.

In the back of the memorial is a marble wall with the names of the 1,177 Sailors and Marines who died on the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. This room is called The Shrine Room and it also honors the men who served on the USS Arizona and survived, but have chosen to be interred along with their shipmates.

Manning the Rail - If your visit is when a ship is entering Pearl Harbor, you may witness sailors “manning the rail”.  This is a beautiful tradition to honor all who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor. Sailors stand along the rails of their ship and salute the memorial.

The History of the USS Arizona Memorial

Builders first began working on the USS Arizona back in 1914. Many believed the ship would be named the North Carolina after the home state of Josephus Daniels – Secretary of the Navy at that time – but upon its completion, it was called the Arizona instead.

On June 19, 1915, the USS Arizona officially launched, but its first few years saw a number of mechanical problems. In 1917, the ship finally joined the Atlantic fleet, though she was mainly used as a training ship during World War I. Though a proud ship, she relied on oil, which was more scarce than coal at the time. The other ships fighting in the British Grand Fleet used coal, and the USS Arizona stayed out of heavy combat. After the war ended, the USS Arizona served as one of the escort ships bringing President Woodrow Wilson to Paris for the Paris Peace Conference.

Over the next few decades, the ship mainly carried cargo and passengers, and it was completely modernized. President Hoover used it to travel down to the Caribbean for a vacation. When an earthquake struck San Pedro while the USS Arizona was docked there, the ship provided shelter, first aid, and communications for the people impacted by the earthquake. The ship even starred in a movie titled,  Here Comes the Navy .

In October 1941, the USS Oklahoma struck the USS Arizona with a torpedo while out doing a routine exercise. No one was seriously injured, but the ship had to be dry-docked in Pearl Harbor while it was repaired.

USS Arizona’s Magazines Explode

When the Japanese began their attack on Pearl Harbor just after 8 a.m. on December 7, 1941, the USS Arizona was hit almost immediately. At 8:10 a.m., an 800-kilogram bomb dropped right on the starboard side, and moments later, the forward magazine powder lit up, exploding and destroying that part of the ship. Two turrets fell 20 feet, and the forward superstructure and foremast came falling into the void left by the previous explosion. Fires broke out across the ship.

Many brave men and women fought to defend the ship and rescue those who were trapped as the ship went down, but in the end, most of the crew members – 1,177 total – died on the ship.

In the months that followed Pearl Harbor and for the duration of the war, the USS Arizona became a symbol to the soldiers and citizens. It symbolized what was being fought for – freedom and the lives of the crew members who tragically lost their lives at Pearl Harbor. Efforts were made to recover the bodies of those trapped on board, but over 900 of them were never found. Parts of the ship were also scrapped, but until the 1950s, the USS Arizona stayed at the bottom of the harbor.

The Memorial

It wasn’t until 1958 that legislation came through the Hawaiian government to create a memorial in honor of the great ship. The Navy would not only be allowed to build the memorial, but they would also be able to accept donations. Perhaps the most famous donation came from rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley. His 1961 concert helped raise a great deal of funds to go to the project.

The memorial was designed by Honolulu architect Alfred Preis, whose design was chosen in a contest. This brilliant designer of the USS Arizona Memorial fled Austria to avoid persecution from the Nazis. The memorial was designed to look similar to a milk carton with open walls on both sides. Preis intended the structure to sag in the middle and stand strong and vigorous on both ends, expressing initial defeat and ultimate victory. The memorial does not touch the sunken ship, but visitors can easily see the ship below them.

In 1960, construction on the memorial finally began, and on Memorial Day 1962, the USS Arizona memorial officially opened. Nearly two decades later, a visitor’s center was built on the shore next to the wreck, and the National Park Service took over the management of the memorial from the Navy.

The USS Arizona Memorial was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989. The memorial gives a feeling of serenity and pride.

Touring Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor, a history lesson and memorial service all in one

HONOLULU – Nearly 1.7 million people toured Pearl Harbor last year, making it one of Hawaii’s most-visited destinations.

But don’t call it a tourist attraction, said actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who narrates a powerful self-guided audio tour of the site.

“It’s a national cemetery,” she said.

She advised us to “be mindful of where you are” on the five-minute boat ride over to the USS Arizona, where more than 900 U.S. soldiers remain entombed under the water nearly 83 years after the surprise attack on Dec. 7, 1941.

But I don’t think any of us needed the reminder.

The National Park Service opened Pearl Harbor National Memorial in 1962, 21 years after the attack, which immediately thrust a reluctant United States into World War II.

It is somber, deeply emotional experience, a history lesson and memorial service all in one.

The entire site spans 21 acres, spread across land and sea. My husband and I spent three and a half hours there on our recent two-week tour of Hawaii, with another 90 minutes at the nearby Battleship Missouri Memorial. And we could have stayed much longer.

I thought I had a broad understanding of what happened here in 1941, but I learned a lot during my hours-long tour.

The Arizona is the centerpiece experience, but there is much more to explore, including two terrific museums, a short orientation film and a series of outdoor viewing areas with signage that help to explain more than what happened here, but also how and why.

And nearby, there are several other related sites including the USS Bowfin, a World War II-era submarine; the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, with dozens of military aircraft on display; and the USS Missouri Memorial, where World War II came to an end with the signing of the Japanese surrender in September 1945.

Touring the USS Arizona Memorial

The centerpiece of the park is a small white structure erected in the water atop the USS Arizona, the battleship that sunk within minutes of being hit by Japanese bombers shortly after 8 a.m. on that sunny Sunday.

Accessible only by boat, the Arizona Memorial, 184 feet long, straddles the sunken hull of the battleship without touching it.

The middle section of the memorial includes openings in the floor overlooking the Arizona. And at the far end: a marble wall listing all 1,177 names of those killed on the ship.

The Arizona is still leaking oil --- about 2 quarts a day, according to the Park Service. “To remove the oil would be to desecrate the tomb,” said Curtis. “Many of the survivors think of the oil droplets as the tears of their comrades.”

Peter Preis, son of the late Alfred Preis, who designed the memorial, described the architecture of the structure this way: The memorial sags in the center, expressing initial defeat, and then it swings up gently, symbolizing ultimate victory. “The overall effect is serenity, not sadness,” he explains in the audio guide.

Visitors are given about 15 minutes on the memorial, which is just enough time to see and process it all.

Note: Admission to Pearl Harbor National Memorial is free, although a $1 fee is assessed when making an advanced reservation for the boat ride over to the Arizona memorial. Reservations are available eight weeks in advance and often fill up quickly. Standby admission is available on some days.

On the day of our visit, which was Super Bowl Sunday, everybody in the standby line was able to get over to see the Arizona, but I was told that is not always the case.

Exploring the museums

Pearl Harbor’s two side-by-side museums, the Road to War Museum and the Attack Museum, are small but insightful, filled with artifacts and exhibits that provide both context and consequences for what happened in the years and months leading up to the attack as well as the period after.

Among the items on display:

* A first draft of President Franklin Roosevelt’s address to Congress on Dec. 7, which made famous the phrase “a date which will live in infamy.” The speech originally included “a date which will live in world history”; but “world history” is crossed out and “infamy” is written in instead.

* A clock from Chaplain Thomas Kirkpatrick’s Arizona stateroom, stopped at 8:05, the time the ship exploded, killing Kirkpatrick and more than 1,000 others. The clock was recovered in 1942.

* A U.S. government-issued gas mask, which residents were required to wear in Honolulu after the attack.

The bombing of Pearl Harbor is often described as a surprise attack, but it wasn’t a complete surprise to everyone.

A report in March 1941, dubbed the Martin-Bellinger Report, warned of the likelihood of a surprise air attack on Pearl Harbor and recommended daily air patrols. But because of shortages of aircraft and personnel, patrols were limited to times when “intelligence indicates that a surface raid is probable,” according to a museum exhibit.

On Dec. 7, at 6:30 a.m., American troops sunk a Japanese midget submarine trying to enter the harbor. And at about 7 a.m., operators at Opana Radar Station on the north side of Oahu spotted a large fleet of planes headed to the island. However, the planes were “assumed to be our own,” according to the exhibit.

They weren’t. “The detection of the mobile radar at Opana remains one of the great ‘what if’ questions surrounding Pearl Harbor,” reads one exhibit.

After about two hours of fighting, the attack was over. Total casualties: More than 2,400 Americans killed, almost half of whom were on the Arizona.

Curtis, on the audio guide, said the Japanese hoped the attack would demoralize the United States.

Instead, she said, “The attack did something Japan had not counted on – it united America.”

Touring the USS Missouri

Pearl Harbor is still an active naval base, consolidated with Hickam Air Force Base in 2010. Visitors to the USS Missouri Memorial and the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum must take a free shuttle from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center to access the sites.

The USS Missouri was not at Pearl Harbor during the attack in late 1941. In fact, it was still under construction in New York City, launched in late 1944 and sent to Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Its main claim to fame during World War II came on Sept. 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay, when the Japanese officially surrendered on the ship’s deck, ending World War II. A photo on a ship wall marks the spot where Gen. Douglas MacArthur, Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu and others gathered to sign the Instrument of Surrender.

“This is the exact spot where World War II ended,” said guide Duke Acenas. “It took 23 minutes to end more than six years of bloody conflict.”

The Missouri, sent to Korea in 1953, was decommissioned in 1955. In the mid-1980s, President Ronald Reagan recommissioned the Missouri, which was sent to the Persian Gulf War in 1990.

It has been opened to the public as a history museum since 1999.

Visitors can tour the deck as well as the lower levels, including living quarters, mess halls, machine room – the ship even had a doughnut shop.

The Missouri is docked along Pearl Harbor’s Battleship Row, bow to bow with the sunken Arizona.

Said Acenas, “They sit here as a symbol of peace for everyone around the world.”
