Thrilling Gavi Trip in our own Aanavandi (KSRTC BUS)

gavi bus trip

Few hours when WhatsApp, Insta and Facebook are inactive without mobile phone range. An Aanavandi( Public Transport local name) through the lap of the forest. Got leave, where to go? Discussion started. Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Alappuzha are the list of one day trip. Gavi is in mind but does not have much knowledge about the place. Decided to ask someone. So-called a friend in Pathanamthitta.

“Has ever gone Gavi, do you know the route and things??” “No yaar, once I planned to go by car with my brother and when we got there a little smoke came from the car. So we went back that day and never went that way again.”She replied, Crap! I’ve got a day’s leave, it’s good to go to the forest, I don’t know how to go… Let’s see, but I’ll call you later.” and i disconnect the call.

Then go to WhatsApp and ask someone ‘dear, have you gone to Gavi? Oh no! Do you know the route? No, she said. She suggested another friend’s name and ended the chat. Anyway, let’s go. Many of the planned trips have been spoiled. A minimum of one day trip is required. So decided to go Gavi confirmed. The first step is to call KSRTC Pathanamthitta and inquire. Searched for the number on Google and called Anavandi depot (KSRTC BUS STATION). (0468 222 2366)

“Hello sir. When is the bus going to Gavi?” “The first service to Gavik is at 5.30 and the second service is at 6.30, which will reach Gavi around 11.30” said the station master. “Do you have a booking?” “No no booking” “Can you get a seat then?” (If you don’t get a front seat on the left side in the Aanavandi* to go through the jungle….oh it will be a disaster) “You just need to come a little before taking the bus, you will get enough seats,” said the master. Hang up the phone. Reached Pathanamthitta at 6.30. I boarded the first Pathanamthitta bus from Tiruvalla and paid 45 rupees and bought a ticket to Pathanamthitta. Asked the conductor about the arrival time at Pathanamthitta. Got the reply that the expected time is 6.30. “Can I get the bus to Gavi?” “Usually the Gavi bus leaves after this bus. When you get there, the bus is full of people,” added the conductor.

“Again feel, so bad,” I thought to myself. The station master’s words the previous night that if you come half an hour before taking the bus, you will get all the seats was ringing in my brain). It is not easy to see the forest standing in a bus for five or six hours; Anyway, let’s see. When it was around 6.25, I started seeing Pathanamthitta written somewhere on the wall of shops. Will this bus reach there on time? Gavi bus will wait for us with an empty seat! heartbeat increases. Anyway, I took the number that I had called at the Pathanamthitta Anavandi depot the day before and called once more.

“Sir, two of us are coming to board the bus to go to Gavi. Pathanamthitta is almost near. Let’s take the bus after looking.” “Well, the bus may be scheduled for 6.30. Anyway, let’s see till 6.35. I might tell the conductor.” Hang up the phone. Then the time is 6.28. At 6:30 a.m., our bus stopped at the Pathanamthitta bus stand and by the time we set foot towards the stationmaster’s office, the conductor came with a long mirror. “Did you call?” “Yes sir” “This is the bus, come on. It’s started and parked.” The station master came running and asked if the passengers who had called him had been carried. Yes, yes, I said, touching my chest and showing my thumb. As it is Monday, the bus is almost half empty. All the travellers must have come and crashed on Sunday. I thought to myself. Anyway, although I didn’t get a front-view seat on the left side as I thought, I got a window seat on the right side. More than enough. Remembering all the trip family gods in my mind, I fixed myseat. I have no idea where to get the ticket or how to get back. Anyway, you can ask the conductor to come. The conductor came and asked as usual. “Where to?”

gavi bus trip

Traveling by naping the forest, breathing in the fresh air, and immersed in the mist in the cool breeze, a journey through the tranquility of the forest. Chills just thinking about it. The Aanavandit is moving forward with us. I looked back every now and then and there were less than ten or fifteen travelers. The rest are people working in power stations like Angamuzhi, Kakki, and Pampa. They get off when they reach their respective places.

gavi bus trip

Around 12.15 the bus reached Periyar stand. While getting down, the conductor said that the bus will go to Kumali at 2 o’clock and come back by then. While getting down, the driver took his phone number with him. You can call if needed. From there we went back half a kilometer towards the tea plantations which we saw while sitting in the car. I sat in the shade of a tree in the tea garden and took some photos. Wandered through the street of Vandiperiyar and turned around at the nearby petrol station and visited the toilet facility. There, I had lunch at a hotel that I saw right next to the bus stand and came back to the bus stand. We boarded the bus and started our journey back.

gavi bus trip

If you can’t experience all this, then what kind of life is it? As Charlie says in the movie, he didn’t enjoy seeing all this and tied it up..?

Nb: Tourists please note that please don’t put plastic bottles and covers in your bag and throw them away thinking that they are not the forest and destroy the forest.

Gavi trip through forest: All you need to know

 alt=

Pristine Pathanamthitta is blessed with abundant green forests. This green canopy does not just offer a visual treat but helped Pathanamthitta win the status of the second-least polluted town in India. That's what Pathanamthitta has to offer - unadulterated love for nature.

Though Pathanamthitta has several beautiful locales, Gavi deserves a special mention. A trip through the forest path, saying hello to the wild, is an experience worth the journey.

The journey begins…

Beat the heat with a green touch at Gavi

Beat the heat with a green touch at Gavi

Best places to visit in pristine Pathanamthitta

Best places to visit in pristine Pathanamthitta

The best vehicle, which offers a 'sky-view' of the forest as you climb the mountains, would be the local bus. Head to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand, and you can catch the early morning bus to Kumily that goes via Gavi. If 6.30 am is too early for you, opt for the 12.30 pm bus.

gavi bus trip

Those who want to explore the forest in their own vehicles, they would have to book online in advance and reach the Angamoozhi forest check post before 8.30 am to take the pass.

The 90 km journey through the rainforest starts from Angamoozhi.

You can take the route via Seetathode from Pathanamthitta to reach Angamoozhi. It is a small village by the Kakkattar River and here you will get to eat some of the really traditional food. The forest check post is some distance away from the village. Only 30 vehicles would be given pass in a single day. So, make sure, you are in early.

Why you should go for bowl boating at Adavi

Why you should go for bowl boating at Adavi

If the rush is high, you might not be given permission to enter. From 5 pm till 8 pm, vehicles are banned in the forest.

The wild land

Once you enter the forest, abandon the road habits of honking or switching on your music system. Instead focus your mind and eyes to stay alert for the sudden appearance of a wild tusker or a bison. You might even spot a leopard in the forests. The dangling tree branches might be playing host to a mountain squirrel or if you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the lion-tailed macaque. The call of a passing hornbill would also resonate through the forest.

gavi bus trip

After Angamoozhi, there would be vehicle inspections at Kochandi, Vallakkadavu, Gavi and Vandiperiyar check posts. The forest personnel will even take a count of the number of plastic bottles. They would not let any abusive substance to be taken inside the woods.

As you go deeper into the forest, be wary of the odd vehicles that might come your way. This is mostly a one-way but for the KSRTC bus or the lone forest department or KSEB jeeps. Those private vehicles heading to Gavi from Angamoozhi are not allowed to return via the same route. They have to take the Kumaly route to exit the forest.

Dams on the way

You would also pass by the dams of Moozhiyar, Kakki, Anathode, Gavi and Kochu Pamba along the route. These five dams are part the Sabarigiri hydro-electric project.

gavi dam

Some kilometres after the first check post, you would see the Moozhiyar dam. It was filled to the brim during last year’s monsoon. However, this year, one part of the dam paints a sorry picture of a nearly dried-up reservoir.

As you move on from Upper Moozhiyar, you would see three huge penstock pipes. Even though mobile network would be negligible, your phones would be kept busy at this view point.

Next up is the canteen of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) office in Moozhiyar. You might come across Kashi, a contract worker of the KSEB. A native of Tenkasi, Kashi has to record the water level at Kakki dam and report it at the Moozhiyar power house control room. He has been at this job for 40 years. Earlier he used to cycle the 15km stretch to the dam and back through the forest path frequented by elephants, bears and leopards. He has come across different wild creatures but they don't bother him. Their respect for each other's space would be one example of living in harmony with the wild. Now, with better transport services, Kashi takes the bus.

Best places to visit in pristine Pathanamthitta

After Moozhiyar dam comes the Kakki dam, one of the longest dams in Kerala. Though last year, water from the dam had flooded Ranni town in Pathanamthitta, the dam now looks a mere dried-up shadow of its former self.

After Vallakkadavu check post, you might come across herds of elephants.

The forest path and the mist that descends from the hills offer a mesmerising experience. You would struggle to come with words to express the beauty of Gavi eco-tourism point, complete with a beautiful garden and pond. A ride through the forest that can fill up your photo album with Instagram-worthy pictures.

Those of you who did not have enough of the forest, can stay at the inspection bungalows of KSEB at Angamoozhi and Kochu Pamba. But you have to book in advance. You can also book online for the KFDC cottages at Gavi. However, it would be a bit more expensive. The day travellers can have food from the small canteens at Moozhiyar, Kochu Pamba and Gavi.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

Trump is funneling campaign money into cash-strapped businesses. Experts say it looks bad.

Donald Trump’s main 2024 White House campaign fundraising operation sharply increased spending at the former president's properties in recent months, funneling money into his businesses at a time when he is facing serious legal jeopardy and desperately needs cash.

Trump’s joint fundraising committee wrote three checks in February and one in March to his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, totaling $411,287 and another in March to Trump National Doral Miami for $62,337, according to a report filed to the Federal Election Commission this week.

Federal law and FEC regulations allow donor funds to be spent at a candidate’s business so long as the campaign pays fair market value, experts say. Trump has been doing it for years , shifting millions in campaign cash into his sprawling business empire to pay for expenses such as using his personal aircraft for political events, rent at Trump Tower and events at his properties, which has included hotels and private clubs.

While the practice is legal, some campaign finance experts believe it raises ethical concerns when a candidate is generating personal revenue off running for office.

“When voters see something like this happening it contributes to their distrust of the political system and their elected officials' motives,” said Shanna Ports, senior legal counsel with the Campaign Legal Center, a nonprofit government accountability group.

Trump faces huge legal costs amid multiple civil and criminal cases

The money Trump’s campaign is spending at his businesses could help the former president as he faces a big cash crunch.

Trump has been hit with a pair of large financial judgements after losing two civil lawsuits.

He posted a $91.6 million bond in a defamation case brought by the writer E. Jean Carroll , and a $175 million bond in a fraud case involving falsifying business records. The New York attorney general is challenging whether the deal Trump made to post the larger bond payment is financially sound.

The payments Trump’s campaign has made to his businesses are small compared to his large court-ordered financial judgements, but have been growing in recent months.

The Trump campaign and affiliated political committees paid businesses owned by Trump at least $4.9 million since the start of 2023, according to an analysis by USA TODAY. Most of that money – $4.1 million – went to TAG Air, Inc. for air travel.

Trump lists TAG Air, Inc among his assets on his latest financial disclosure required of presidential candidates, with a value of between $5 million and $25 million. It operates his private aircraft, nicknamed Trump Force One.

Trump's various campaign committees and a super PAC controlled by his supporters also spent at least $809,000 at his properties since the beginning of last year.

Campaign spending at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Doral in Miami

The bulk of the campaign spending at Trump's properties since the start of 2023 — $663,000 — has been at Mar-a-Lago, and most of it occurred in February. It’s not clear what events the money went toward.

A Trump spokeswoman did not respond to specific questions about the campaign spending at his properties but instead sent a statement attacking President Joe Biden.

Other GOP candidates also have been spending considerable campaign cash at Trump properties.

Ohio Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno's campaign spent $109,000 on "event catering" at Mar-a-Lago in April, December and January of 2023, records show. Trump endorsed Moreno in December . Moreno won the primary in March and will face three-term Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown in November.

Nevada U.S. Senate candidate Jim Marchant's campaign spent about $67,000 at Mar-a-Lago on "event venue rental and catering" in November and December. Trump backed Marchant in his unsuccessful bid to be Nevada's secretary of state in 2022. Marchant is now seeking to unseat first-term Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen.

A PAC called Giuliani Defense spent $2,400 on fundraising expenses and food at Trump's golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey in January. That PAC has spent $540,000 on legal fees, according to FEC filings. Trump hosted a fundraiser for Rudy Giuliani at Bedminster in September to help with the former New York mayor's legal costs, which stem in part from the criminal charges Giuliani faces in Fulton County, Georgia, for trying to help Trump overturn the 2020 election.

Trump hosted a party at Mar-a-Lago on March 5 with a large group of supporters to watch the Super Tuesday primary election results from 16 states. He also held a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago in October that drew hundreds of supporters, including U.S. Reps Marjorie Taylor Green and Byron Donalds, Texas attorney general Ken Paxton and the actress Roseanne Barr.

Another fundraiser at Trump National Doral in March was hosted by former Ambassador Carlos Trujillo, with the money benefiting the Make America Great Again, Inc. super PAC.

The Trump Save America Joint Fundraising Committee, which raises money for Trump’s campaign and his Save America leadership PAC accounted for the majority of the spending at Trump properties, with other expenses paid for by Trump’s main campaign committee, the MAGA Inc. super PAC and Save America.

Concerns about Trump's business conflicts go back to 2016 election

Questions about how Trump’s businesses have benefited from his political career have swirled around him throughout the former president’s three campaigns and his four years in the White House.

Under pressure to avoid potential conflicts of interest between his role as president and his vast business dealings, Trump declared after winning the 2016 election that he wouldn't cut any "new deals." The incoming president also put his two adult sons in charge of the family business, which was controlled by a trust that critics said didn't have strong enough requirements to prevent potential ethical conflicts.

Lawsuits accusing Trump of violating the emoluments clauses in the Constitution during his presidency were unsuccessful. Critics said those seeking to influence Trump's administration funneled money into his businesses, including a hotel near the White House in Washington, D.C. that has since been sold and rebranded as a Waldorf Astoria.

America Democracy Legal Fund filed a complaint with the FEC in 2016 alleging “Mr. Trump is using funds from his presidential campaign to further his business and personal interests." The complaint was dismissed, but concerns remain in the minds of some campaign finance experts.

"People should be running for office because they want to serve the public, not because they want to enrich themselves," Ports said. "So the fact that campaigns are allowed to pay the candidate’s business raises those concerns. While legal, it creates kind of a negative impression of the election system."

Richard Briffault, a legislation professor at Columbia Law School, said Trump's use of campaign funds at his businesses may not be illegal, but it's "a little bit dicey."

'Nobody's ever seen anything like it'

Briffault said the only comparable political candidate with such a sprawling business may be former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who ran for president as a Democrat, but even then, they’re not an exact comparison. “Everything with Trump, nobody’s ever seen anything like it,” he said.

The primary thing Trump’s businesses need to do is charge his campaign and PACs the same amount they would charge any other paying customer for the services. But there’s also an ethical question of whether the campaign and PACs could get a better deal somewhere else.

“How much are they charging? And to what extent are they putting people up who might be staying someplace else that might be cheaper?” Briffault asked. “You could imagine that there could be cheaper venues to these things, but they’re purposely holding them there.”

Trump's leadership PAC also has been spending vast sums on attorneys as the president faces four criminal cases. He currently is on trial in New York City in a case involving alleged payments to an adult film star during the 2016 presidential campaign to keep her quiet about an alleged sexual affair.

Since days after the 2020 election, the leadership PAC Save America spent more than $72.5 million on legal bills to many of the same firms that are representing him in his civil and criminal cases. That fund accounts for the bulk of his legal spending, but his affiliated committees have spent millions more.

Spending money on legal issues is not unusual for a campaign, but campaign finance experts say Trump has pushed the boundaries of what is allowable.
