ZAMBALES TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS + Visita Step-by-Step Guide

Zambales, one of the most popular travel destinations near Manila, is now open again for leisure travelers. But of course, there are still restrictions and health and safety protocols in place. Travel requirements must also be submitted prior to travel.

Aside from following the health and safety protocols, tourists who plan to visit must sign up for a Zambales VISITA account and schedule their visit at least one day before their intended travel date. If you’re planning to go on a trip to Zambales, this post has the list of requirements you have to prepare and the steps you need to take to help you travel safe.

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Who are allowed to visit?

• Residents from areas under Alert Level 1, 2, and 3
• Fully vaccinated individuals
• Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated non-high-risk individuals aged 18-65 years old
• Minors aged 3-17 accompanied by parent or guardian

Who are NOT allowed to visit?

• Residents from areas under MECQ, GCQ with heightened restrictions, Alert Level 4 and 5
• Children 2 years and below (as advised by the DOH)

List of Zambales Travel Requirements

• Zambales Visita Registration . To register, go to visita.zambales.gov.ph. Prepare your valid ID and a recent photo when you register.
• Confirmed accommodation booking . The hotel/resort/lodging establishment must be accredited locally or by the Department of Health (DOH).
• Negative COVID-19 Test Result . The type of test you would need depends on your vaccination status: Rapid Antigen Test for vaccinated travelers, RT-PCR test for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers. You will find more details on this below.
• Vaccination Card . For fully-vaccinated individuals.
• QR-coded Travelers Pass (QTP) from Zambales VISITA . You can get your QTP after you register and schedule your visit. You must secure your QTP prior to your visit.

What to do before visiting Zambales?

1. prepare the requirements based on your vaccination status..

• Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals: Negative RT-PCR test result from a DOH accredited testing facility taken 48 hours prior to your travel date or Negative Saliva RT-PCR test result from Philippine Red Cross, 48 hours prior to your travel date.
• Fully vaccinated individuals: Negative Rapid Antigen Test result from a medical clinic or hospital taken 24 hours prior to your travel.

FOR MINORS:

• Traveling with fully-vaccinated parents or guardians: Negative Rapid Antigen Test result from a medical clinic or hospital taken 24 hours prior to travel.
• Traveling with unvaccinated or partially vaccinated parents or guardians: Negative RT-PCR test result from a DOH accredited testing facility taken 48 hours prior to travel.

2. Create a Zambales VISITA account.

To register, go to the Zambales VISITA website at visita.zambales.gov.ph .

Zambales Visita is an online registration system for travelers going to Zambales created by the local government, supported by the Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board. This is where individuals can schedule their visit and submit their travel requirements in advance so they could be provided with a QR-coded Tourist Pass that is required when they visit Zambales.

Here’s how you can create a ZAMBALES VISITA account:

• On the Zambales Visita website, click SCHEDULE A VISIT or LOG IN. Then, on the log in page, click on the CLICK HERE! button to start creating an account.
• Enter your email address. Then, type in your password. Re-type your password and click SIGN UP.
• Fill in the sign up form. Enter your first name, middle name, last name, birth date, place of birth, citizenship, and marital status. Then, click PROCEED. On the next page, enter your contact number and address, and click PROCEED.
• Upload a recent photo and a valid government ID for identification. For minors, their parent’s or guardian’s valid government ID may be used.
• Read the Data Privacy and Visitor’s consent. Then, click CONFIRM AND REGISTER if you agree to the terms.
• Check your email to verify your Zambales VISITA account. A verification link will be sent to the email address you used to register. Click on the link and log in your VISITA account to complete the verification process.

That’s it! You have successfully created your Zambales VISITA account. You can now schedule your visit.

3. Book at an accredited accommodation establishment.

As of writing, tourists are only allowed to stay at an accommodation establishment accredited locally or by DOH. You may check the list of ACCREDITED HOTELS IN ZAMBALES ! ✅

4. Schedule a visit.

• Log in your VISITA account and click SCHEDULE A VISIT.
• Select SCHEDULE A NEW TRAVEL. If you have scheduled a visit before or saved a draft for your travel schedule, you may also choose to edit it on this page.
• Choose your reason for travel. If you’re a tourist, select LEISURE/RECREATION/VACATION.
• Select the municipality you will visit. Then, enter your accommodation details. Choose the hotel where you will stay in on the drop down list and upload a proof of booking.
• Confirm summary of travel details then, proceed to the health declaration form. You may also choose to save your travel request and continue with the process when it’s closer to your travel date.
• Accomplish the health declaration form. Make sure to answer truthfully.
• Choose your testing option. If you choose to have your test prior to travel, upload your Negative COVID-19 test result and receipt. Then, click PROCEED. Confirm the validity of your Negative COVID-19 Test by clicking CONFIRM & AGREE.
• Select your estimated time of arrival and click PROCEED.
• Review the summary of your health declaration form and click CONFIRM. Read the terms then, click PROCEED.
• Check your email. After accomplishing the Health Declaration Form, your application will be reviewed. You will receive a confirmation email regarding the status of your travel request. If your registration is successful with valid documents uploaded, you will receive another email with the link for your QTP.
• Download your QR-coded Tourist Pass (QTP). This QTP is unique to you and contains your name, photo, and dates of travel in Zambales. Print your QTP or save a copy on your mobile device.

Make sure to keep a copy of your QTP with you at all times during your stay in Zambales. You have to scan this upon arrival at the border checkpoints and establishments that you will visit.

5. Upon arrival, proceed to Triage.

At the triage, your health declaration form will be confirmed.

Don’t forget to bring a hard copy of your COVID-19 test results for verification.

6. Follow health and safety protocols.

• Wear a face mask at all times and face shield when in enclosed public spaces.
• Observe proper physical distancing.
• Wash your hands or sanitize using alcohol or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are children/minors allowed to visit.

Yes, children aged 3 – 17 traveling with parents or guardian are allowed to visit, but must have a Negative COVID-19 test result. The type of test will depend on the vaccination status of the parent/guardian, as detailed above.

What modes of transport are allowed?

Private vehicles or tour transport from a travel agent are allowed.

Are day trips allowed?

For leisure day tours, only residents from Olongapo City and Pangasinan with Negative Rapid Antigen Test results are allowed. Day tours must not exceed 14 hours upon entry.

Can I stay in a relative’s or friend’s house?

No. Tourists must have a pre-booked accommodation at an accommodation establishment accredited by the DOT or the local government.

Thanks for the update, guys. We’ve been waiting to go to Zambales for a wander up and down the coast.

But these restrictions still prevent us from going. The pre-booking at approved (and no doubt over-priced) accommodations is a scam we refuse to submit to. We’re fully vaccinated. Let us visit!

Other provinces also have restrictions. Really… how many countries still impose INTERNAL travel barriers? It’s just dumb and will continue to punish the domestic travel industry.

The solution to our travel urge is… go abroad! It’s easier to go to numerous other countries than from MM to Zambales. Foreigners will make money from us, not deserving Filipinos with clueless provincial governments.

Too bad… if you see the online chatter on Reddit and other sources, travelers are dying to experience Philippine hospitality. But they can’t. Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia are ALL opening (with variable restrictions). The Philippines is losing out.

2024 MANILA to ZAMBALES Bus Schedules & Fares

Because of its proximity to Metro Manila, Zambales is undoubtedly one of the choice weekend and summer destinations for metropolitan dwellers, especially beach lovers and sun chasers. Located in the Central Luzon region, its western border is the West Philippine Sea, blessing most of its towns, including its capital Iba , with sandy shores and clear waters.

San Antonio is popular for its stunning coves like Anawangin and Nagsasa. Tourists embark on an island hopping tour to get to some of these beautiful coves and islands. Neighboring towns San Felipe and San Narciso offer surfing spots for both beginners and advanced wave riders.

For those staying overnight or for a few days, the resort towns of Zambales not only provide beachfront and unique lodgings but also lure beach campers and “glampers” .

Already itching to explore the province? Whether riding a private vehicle or taking public transportation, the travel time from Manila to Zambales is 4-5 hours , depending on the traffic and road conditions.

Cisco Bus Co. operates daily trips from Manila to Zambales, Nueva Ecija, and Pangasinan. The company shares a terminal with Five Star Bus in Cubao and Pasay. Buses bound for Santa Cruz in Zambales are stationed at the Pasay terminal at #2240 Aurora Boulevard in Malibay. Look for the Five Star Bus terminal. By the way, these buses also stop at Alaminos before proceeding to Santa Cruz.

Anawangin Cove in Zambales has crescent-shaped beach where grayish, volcanic sand and cerulean water blend majestically.  Here, cliffs rise hundreds of feet from the ocean floor to Agoho-fringed peaks that were sprinkled by nature from the last eruption of the nearby Mt.Pinatubo.

I first visited Anawangin Island back in 2009, it’s one of the first beaches in the Philippines that I’ve been to when I was just starting to travel (I wasn’t even blogging yet that time).  I wondered how it looked like now, so when I was in Subic, Zambales to attend a gathering recently, I decided to take a side trip to Anawangin Cove before going back to Manila.

I miss traveling solo, and I missed unplanned trips. No detailed itinerary.  No hotel bookings.  Because truth is, lately, I feel like I need to find inspiration to keep going.  And I find solace in going back to places where I started traveling to remind myself of where I started and where I wanted to be.  It keeps me grounded and it reminds me of my purpose.  It sounds cliché, but traveling makes me appreciate life more.  Whenever I’m feeling lost and empty, I look at the word map to remind myself there’s still a lot of places to tick off my bucket list.  It keeps me going.

I arrived in San Antonio, Zambales at nightfall, I hailed a random tricycle to take me to Pundaquit – the jumping off point for island hopping in Capones , Camara, Anawangin and Nagsasa Island.  It was cold and dark. I thought I knew the place well, because I used to visit it frequently back then.  But it was so dark and I no longer recognize the village.  A lot of things have changed.  I didn’t know where to go.   Luckily, there was a resort nearby and a rustic café.  As I stepped inside the cafe, colorful dream catchers and two big, brown dogs welcomed me. From a distance, I could hear the breaking waves echo in the darkness as if telling me, “Everything will be alright and tomorrow will be a beautiful day. Hang on.”

How to get to anawangin cove from manila.

So how to get to Anawangin Cove in Zambales?  The cove is accessible from Manila by bus or by private vehicle.

• Ride a bus bound for Iba or Sta. Cruz, Zambales. Victory Liner has daily trips to Iba, Zambales from Cubao, Caloocan, Earnshaw and Pasay.  Bus fare to San Antonio, Zambales is roughly PHP 270 (USD 5.41 /EURO 4.49/SGD 7.19/MYR 22) and travel time is around 4-5 hours depending on traffic.
• Alight at San Antonio bus stop.
• Hail a tricycle to take you to Pundaquit (I usually go to Purok 2). Tricycle fare is PHP 60 (USD 1.20 /EURO 1/SGD 2/MYR 5) if you are alone and PHP 30 (USD 0.60 /EURO 0.50/SGD 0.80/MYR 2.41) each person for two or more passengers. Travel time is around 20 minutes.
• At Brgy. Pundaquit (I usually go to Purok 2), hire a boat to take you Anawangin Island. See Anawangin boat rates below.

HOW TO GET TO ANAWANGIN FROM OLONGAPO 

• Alternatively, from Manila (Pasay, Cubao, Caloocan or Earnshaw), you can take a bus (Victory Liner) bound for Olongapo (I suggest you take the Olongapo bus via SCTEX for faster travel time). Travel time is about 3-4 hours and fare is around PHP 245 (USD 5 /EURO 4/SGD 7/MYR 20).
• Change bus at Olongapo Victory bus terminal. Ride the bus to Iba or Sta. Cruz, Zambales and alight at San Antonio, Zambales.  Fare is about PHP 45 (USD 0.90 / EURO 0.75/SGD 1.20/MYR 4)
•  At San Antonio, Zambales, charter a tricycle to take you to Brgy. Pundaquit. fare is PHP 60 (USD 1.20 /EURO 1/SGD 2/MYR 5) if you are alone and PHP 30  (USD 0.60 /EURO 0.50/SGD 0.80/MYR 2.41) each person for two or more passengers. Travel time is around 20 minute

Here’s a list of Anawangin Cove rates and entrance fees.  If you plan on camping, I recommend bringing your own tent.  You can go swimming and hike up the nearby hill for a scenic view of Anawangin beach and its surroundings.

Anawangin cove itinerary + budget breakdown.

Here’s a sample Anawangin Itinerary with expenses/budget breakdown good for a solo traveler.  You can camp overnight in Anawangin, bring your own tent or rent one.  Alternatively, you can stay in one of the resorts in Brgy. Pundaquit like I did, but best to book ahead (see links below) to save. I find the online rates cheaper than walking-in.

You can also do Anawangin as a day trip. Feel free to tweak the sample Anawangin itinerary below.

*The PHP 2,010 (USD 40 /EURO 33/ SGD 54/ MYR 162) sample expenses for Anawangin trip is good for a solo traveler. This sample budget can go down if you have a travel buddy or you are traveling with a group.

ANAWANGIN COVE TRAVEL TIPS

• There’s no electricity in Anawangin Cove, but some resorts have generators so better come prepared with flashlight and power banks.
• There’s a canteen in Anawangin Cove (Chef Ronnie) that is open 24 hours.
• There are a few stalls offering snacks like halo-halo , turon , banana cue, etc.
• But you can save by bringing your own food.
• Bring can and bottle opener, knife, and match or lighter if you plan to cook or prepare your own food in Anawangin.
• Bring your own drinking water.
• Bring mosquito repellent if you plan to camp or stay in a cottage in Anawangin Cove.
• Bring sunblock to protect your precious skin.
• Please do not leave your trash anywhere. I’ve seen tons of trash left on the hill. You can bring your own garbage bag,  take it back to the mainland ad dispose the trash properly.
