August, 2026: Solar Eclipse

Iceland or spain | august, 2026, now accepting reservations.

August 12, 2026.  Both Iceland and Spain will experience a total solar eclipse!  We are delighted to announce that we are operating two tours, one to Iceland and one to Spain.  Explore Iceland with Sirius Travel and you will enjoy access to our astronomer and geologist guides. These guides bring their knowledge of solar eclipses and the amazing geology of Iceland to enhance your enjoyment on a well-tested itinerary refined over 5 years of leading annual Northern Lights tours. Travel with our astronomers to sun-drenched Mallorca in Spain and enjoy the rich heritage and natural beauty of that island and view the eclipse as it sets in the west, falling off the limb of the Earth.  The itineraries for both tours have been carefully planned to maximize your chances to view the solar eclipse given historical conditions.

Croatia Cruise

What an awesome trip! Sirius Travel organized us a holiday of a lifetime! Croatia was magical with the most amazing scenery on the Adriatic coast; the boat and crew exceeded our expectations with regards to comfort, food and service. With the rate of exchange, Croatia is definitely an affordable European destination. It was an idyllic and purely relaxing holiday – just what we needed to get away from our stressed filled city lives!

Thanks a million, Sirius Travel!

I was searching the internet to book a boat trip in Croatia.  After numerous unsuccessful attempts, I decided to search for a local agent.

I, fortunately, stumbled upon Marijana from Sirius Travel. My dealings with them from start to finish was nothing short of amazing. Boat trip booked!

Marijana then undertook to organise my Visa which she managed in record time.

The boat trip was fantastic, beautiful places visited and an amazing crew on the boat.

Croatia is an incredible place and worth a visit. I would highly recommend using Sirius Travel and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for everything Marijana!

Dear Marijana and Theresa

I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for organising my visa so I can leave tomorrow!!

I cannot express how grateful I am !! I am still astounded that I came so close to missing out on our long-anticipated holiday. I am sure I drove you all crazy with my panicking (!) I apologise -but the passport arrived safely this morning and we are all set to leave. I am so excited to be able to see my daughter again and if it wasn’t for you this wouldn’t have been possible.

Many many thanks!

Croatia Cruise M/S Splendid

Hi Marijana,

I want to give some feedback on our trip to Croatia.

The cruise on M/S Splendid was amazing. It was a mid-range boat but very neat and clean with more than enough space in the room and bathroom.

The crew were excellent and the food was good as well. Pricing for drinks was not bad. We loved it.

Definitely the best trip we’ve been on! Croatia is stunning!

Costa Rica Tour

Dear Marijana, Thank you very much for organizing an outstandingly beautiful holiday in Costa Rica.

We are a family of 6 who had a great time exploring the nature and national parks in this great Central American country. The holiday was full of adventure, jungle exploring, river rafting and zip lining through the Cloud forest.

We would certainly highly recommend it to any nature lover.

Thank you for having organized this amazing trip to South Africa for us.

We explored Cape Town for 6 days and went on amazing 4-day safari at Sabi Sands.

Hopefully, you will not label us as spoiled but everything was superb: accommodation at  Ellerman House in Bantry Bay, Ulusaba Game Lodge at Sabi Sands, Mont Rochelle in Franshoek; and also very informative and well organized Cape Town day tours.

During our trip, we saw a lot and everything worked out perfectly.

You organized an amazing trip and you took care of all of our wishes.

Fjords, Pharaohs or Koalas? Time to Plan for Your Next Eclipse.

If you can’t get enough of totality, or missed out this time, you’ll have three more chances in the next four years in destinations like Iceland, Spain, Egypt and Australia.

  • Share full article

A small, black disk surrounded by a bright, white halo suspended in a mostly dark sky over the still waters of a lake in which dim, golden light from the horizon is reflecting. There are dark hills and mountains beyond the lake.

By Danielle Dowling

Are you still a little giddy from the magical moments of totality during Monday’s solar eclipse? Or did clouds swoop in to block your view? Maybe you just couldn’t make it to the path of totality this time. No matter what, the question now is “ Where and when will it happen again?”

“People who have never seen it before, the first words out of their mouth after the totality ends is ‘I’ve got to see another one, this is incredible, this is unbelievable.’ That is when you become addicted to these things and end up traveling no matter where the next one is,” said Joseph Rao, an eclipse chaser and guest lecturer at the Hayden Planetarium.

So, if like Mr. Rao, you’ve developed a raging case of umbraphilia — the love of eclipses — you’ll have three chances over the next four years to see the moon blot out the sun. The first, on Aug. 12, 2026, will start above Greenland, then strafe the west coast of Iceland and move along the Atlantic Ocean and over Spain. Almost a year later, on Aug. 2, 2027, another will skirt the Mediterranean coast of North Africa then cross Egypt and part of the Arabian Peninsula. The third, on July 22, 2028, will cut across Australia and the southern tip of New Zealand.

Future Eclipses

Eclipse chasers will have several more chances this decade to view a total solar eclipse .

sirijus travel

Last week, as Victoria Sahami , the owner of Sirius Travel , was preparing to guide a group of tourists in Mazatlán, Mexico, for Monday’s big event, she was also planning for these other upcoming eclipses. Ms. Sahami joined the ranks of the eclipse-obsessed when she witnessed one in Venezuela in the 1990s. “Like many people, I was hooked. There was no going back,” she said.

Total solar eclipses happen fairly regularly — about every one to two years — in locations scattered around the world. “That’s the great thing about them: You wind up in places that you don’t normally go,” Ms. Sahami said.

A major spoiler is weather, which will be a big variable in the 2026 eclipse — one Greenland, Iceland and Spain will see.

“Iceland normally has a lot of cloud during that time of year,” said Paul Maley , who runs Ring of Fire Expeditions . “The data shows Spain to have the higher good-weather prospects of all three. However, the sun is low in the sky and the eclipse ends as the sun hits the horizon at sunset.”

Because of Iceland’s mercurial meteorology, Ring of Fire Expeditions is going all in on Spain, with a 10-day excursion on the mainland. Sirius Travel is offering not only a five-day trip to Majorca but also an eight-day tour around Iceland. It will be based in Reykjavik, and the itinerary will remain flexible on the day of the eclipse so the tour can easily pivot toward the location with the least cloud cover. Ms. Sahami recommends the trip for those who already have a few eclipses under their belt and would be happy just to take in the sights of Iceland if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The 2027 eclipse, on the other hand, promises to be truly stellar: Luxor, Egypt — the site of numerous ancient temples as well as the Valleys of the Kings and Queens — sits right in the middle of the path of totality and will be bathed in darkness for a full 6 minutes 23 seconds. Weather-wise, it is what Ms. Sahami called “a slam dunk.” “You know you’re going to see it. You know that you’re not going to get any clouds,” she said.

But for all its potential, those considering Egypt should be aware that the State Department has a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” warning for the country because of the risk of terrorism.

The 2028 eclipse will darken the skies over Sydney, Australia, for 3 minutes 49 seconds. It will be the first time the city has experienced a total solar eclipse since 1857. Ms. Sahami has her eyes on a trip based out of there, while Mr. Maley has chartered a cruise ship off the northwest coast of Australia. It will be winter there, he said, but that isn’t likely to mean bad eclipse-viewing weather.

If you want to see any (or all) of these eclipses, you should get started on planning and booking now, particularly if you want to sign up for a trip organized by a tour company. One of Sirius Travel’s excursions to Luxor is already full.

Scrutinize refund policies and look into insuring your trip. Several companies will fully refund your deposit if you cancel a year in advance. A lot can happen, Ms. Sahami said, “but if you think you’re going to go, why not?”

Excellent 5 days on Galaxy Sirius

We spent 5 days on Galaxy Sirius and highly recommend it. The boat was spacious in the common areas as well as in the cabins. The food was excellent, varied and healthy. The crew did a great job at looking after you, your cabin was cleaned at least twice per day and they always put safety first. The itinerary was packed in the morning and afternoon with excursions (mainly walking and snorkelling) which were all optional. The guides Christopher and Walter were with you at all times and were great at giving us information on the animals and landscape. Agree bringing a face mask and earplugs is a good idea as the rooms can be light and the boat noisy if you are sailing through the night.

sirijus travel

Dear Rosie_OC85, Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience aboard the Galaxy Sirius! We are thrilled to hear that you found the boat comfortable and spacious, and that our culinary offerings met your expectations with their variety and quality. We also appreciate your practical tips, we look forward to welcoming you aboard again soon and creating more memorable experiences together. Thank you for choosing to sail with us and for your high recommendation! Best regards,

Beautiful new ship with spacious areas inside and out. Healthy fresh food with good variety. Our cabin was light and roomy with plenty of storage (except no full length hanging), good lighting, slim balcony. The two nature guides - Walter and Christopher- were gems with heaps of knowledge, excellent English, and good sense of humour. Jorge ran the programs on the boat; he does a fine job and is an amazing DJ. Snorkeling and walks daily; often a late afternoon panga tour. We cruised the western area of the Galapagos, and it was fab. Would recommend an upstairs cabin to avoid motor / anchor chain noise. Bring an eye mask for the refrig & a/c lights at night. Keep in mind drinks & tips are extra. A very fun, casual, action-packed cruise that I would wholeheartedly recommend.

sirijus travel

Dear MCinAuckland, Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the comfort and activities on board, as well as the knowledge and friendliness of our team. We take note of your suggestions for further improvement. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you again in the future. Thank you for recommending us! Best regards,

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

Who Is Scottie Scheffler's Wife? All About Meredith Scudder

Pro golfer Scottie Scheffler is expecting his first child with wife Meredith Scudder

sirijus travel

Scottie Scheffler hit a hole-in-one with his wife, Meredith Scudder.

The pro golfer married his high school sweetheart in 2020 after conquering four years of long distance at their respective colleges. Scudder has been by Scheffler's side since day one, though the two started off as just friends.

"At the beginning of high school I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn't take himself too seriously," Scudder told Golf Digest of her husband.

The duo held off on taking their friendship to the next level for nearly three years and though she witnessed every step of Scheffler's rise to fame, Scudder said even the most "amazing accomplishments" aren't "the most important thing about him."

Fans slowly grew familiar with Scudder from her tournament appearances leading up to Scheffler's first Masters win in April 2022. She even caddied for him at one point during the weekend. At the time, Scheffler told the Los Angeles Times that his wind-down routine included " sitting back and giggling a little bit and eating some good food" with his wife.

In April 2024, Scheffler earned his second Masters jacket — but Scudder wasn't in the audience due to being nine months pregnant with the couple's first child.

"To my lovely wife, Meredith. I love you, sweetheart," Scheffler said during his victory speech. "I'm excited to get home. I miss you."

So, who is Scottie Scheffler's wife? Here's everything to know about Meredith Scudder and her relationship with the pro golfer.

She and Scheffler are high school sweethearts

Hailing from Dallas, Scheffler and Scudder are childhood sweethearts. The duo first met as freshmen at Highland Park High School, but didn't strike up a romance until their senior year.

"I had to woo her for a few years," he joked during a press conference for the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Their budding relationship was put to the ultimate test when they got accepted into rival colleges. Scudder went on to attend Texas A&M while her beau went off to the University of Texas.

They dated long-distance for all four years before getting engaged in 2020 when Scheffler popped the big question during a hike at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Texas.

She learned Scheffler was a superstar golfer after seeing him in a commercial

A high school senior, Scudder knew her boyfriend was pretty good at golf, but when she saw Scheffler in a commercial for a big golf tournament, she realized just how talented he is.

"I won the U.S. Junior in 2013 and in 2014 I had the opportunity to play in the Byron Nelson as a high school student," Scheffler recalled to the media ahead of the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

He continued, "I was at [Meredith's] house one day, we were hanging out with her dad or something, and the commercial came on TV. And she was kind of looking around. She was like, 'Wait a minute, isn't that next weekend? Isn't that what you're doing?' "

Upon confirming that he was playing in the big leagues that weekend, Scheffler said Scudder was pretty impressed. "She's like, 'Wow, that's cool!' "

She and Scheffler had a winter wonderland-themed wedding

Scheffler and Scudder tied the knot in a church ceremony on Dec. 4, 2020, in their hometown surrounded by friends and family. Afterward, guests were invited to a winter wonderland-themed reception party at Arlington Hall, according to John Cain Photography , who documented the event.

The venue was decorated with garland, red bows and Christmas lights while attendees were given red Santa hats and snow to throw as the couple exited the ballroom. The newlyweds drove away in a golf cart adorned with a "Just Married" banner.

In December 2023, Scheffler and Scudder celebrated three years of marriage. "Here’s to year 3 - happy anniversary Mere!" the golfer wrote on Instagram alongside photos of the couple's big day.

Faith plays a big role in their marriage

Scheffler will be the first to say he isn't anything without his faith. The pro golfer has publicly spoken about being Christian numerous times and how he and Scudder lean on their faith during times of triumph and defeat.

"I cried like a baby this morning. I was so stressed out," Scheffler told Golf.com after winning the 2022 Masters tournament. "[Meredith] told me, 'Who are you to say that you are not ready? Who am I to say that I know what's best for my life?' "

He continued, "So what we talked about is that God is in control and that the Lord is leading me; and if today is my time, it's my time. And if I shot 82 today, you know, somehow I was going to use it for His glory."

During an appearance on the Sports Spectrum podcast in 2018, Scheffler explained how having "the God of the universe" with him "just makes things a lot easier to deal with." In their daily life, Scheffler said they also look to "the principles of the Bible" as a form of manifesting.

She likes to tease Scheffler over his "very particular" Chipotle order

While Scheffler claims he's got his Chipotle order down to a science, Scudder jokes it's just a "very particular" way to get extra toppings.

In a video for Golf Digest , Scudder revealed her husband likes to order a bowl with " an extra scoop of rice " and "a little bit" of black beans. For protein, he asks for chicken, and then just as they go to move his bowl to the next station, he asks for steak, too.

"Because if you just say double meat, they don't give you the full scoopage of both," Scheffler explained. He skips salsa and lettuce, but opts for cheese on top.

Her favorite part about her husband's Chipotle order, however, has to do with how he eats the bowl. The pro athlete refuses to eat his food with anything but a spoon. "You can't use any other silverware or else it 'doesn't taste the same,' " Scudder said, mimicking Scheffler with air quotes.

"No, no, no, no, no — people always eat their Chipotle with a fork, but they use it like a spoon!" Scheffler said in defense. "They spoon it, but with a fork. It doesn't make any sense. Everyone else has got it wrong. I got it right with a spoon."

She's a director of curating opportunities for the nonprofit Behind Every Door

When she isn't cheering on her husband on the golf course, Scudder is helping out at Behind Every Door (BED). She's the director of curating opportunities at the nonprofit, an organization that provides sport, educational and creative programs for the youth in underdeveloped neighborhoods in the Dallas area.

"I believe everyone has unique gifting. I love being part of an organization that is showing kids their giftings and giving them a chance to not only discover those gifts but see who God created them to be," Scudder told Veritex Community Bank for Essential Golf .

Scheffler often volunteers for BED, too. The nonprofit's mission, which is rooted in spirituality, is one of the things that first attracted the couple.

"We love that it starts with listening. We don't say, 'This is what you need, this is what we're here to give you,' but rather, 'We want to build a relationship with you and walk alongside you,' " Scheffler explained.

She added: "Learning how BED goes about empowering kids and families to overcome poverty and build up their communities has been amazing. We love how relational it is and that the heart behind everything they do is the gospel, that is important to Scottie and me, as well."

She didn't know anything about golf before dating Scheffler

Scheffler has had to teach his wife a thing or two about his favorite sport.

During a press conference for the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions, Scheffler admitted Scudder didn't understand much about golf in the early days of their relationship.

Albeit, after trailing his career and spending most of 2022 on the road with him, Scheffler said she's starting to get the hang of it. "She's learned fast," he said, praising his wife. "She's a student of the game. She's come to learn it."

Her genuine interest and willingness to learn has led to lots of bonding with his parents, too, Scheffler added. "She's spent a lot of time around my parents who love golf. She's learning."

One way she's immersed herself in the game is by caddying for her husband. She carried Scheffler's clubs at the 2022 Masters Tournament and then again during the Par 3 contest the following year. The golf pro posted photos of himself at the tournament in April 2023, including some shots of him and his wife walking together.

She and Scheffler are expecting their first child

 Patrick Smith/Getty

In March 2024, news that the couple are currently expecting their first child broke when Scudder and her noticeable baby bump were seen cheering Scheffler on as he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

“It’s going to be pretty wild. I don’t think it’s hit either of us quite yet, maybe sometime when the baby is moving around in her stomach a bunch, but it’s an exciting time for us as a family,” Scheffler told PGA Tour Sirius/XM Radio, via Golf Week .

He added, “It’s been a pretty exciting last seven months or so and we’re looking forward to hopefully getting the baby out of there nice and healthy and with a healthy momma and then we’ll go from there.”

The Moscow Metro Museum of Art: 10 Must-See Stations

There are few times one can claim having been on the subway all afternoon and loving it, but the Moscow Metro provides just that opportunity.  While many cities boast famous public transport systems—New York’s subway, London’s underground, San Salvador’s chicken buses—few warrant hours of exploration.  Moscow is different: Take one ride on the Metro, and you’ll find out that this network of railways can be so much more than point A to B drudgery.

The Metro began operating in 1935 with just thirteen stations, covering less than seven miles, but it has since grown into the world’s third busiest transit system ( Tokyo is first ), spanning about 200 miles and offering over 180 stops along the way.  The construction of the Metro began under Joseph Stalin’s command, and being one of the USSR’s most ambitious building projects, the iron-fisted leader instructed designers to create a place full of svet (radiance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future), a palace for the people and a tribute to the Mother nation.

Consequently, the Metro is among the most memorable attractions in Moscow.  The stations provide a unique collection of public art, comparable to anything the city’s galleries have to offer and providing a sense of the Soviet era, which is absent from the State National History Museum.  Even better, touring the Metro delivers palpable, experiential moments, which many of us don’t get standing in front of painting or a case of coins.

Though tours are available , discovering the Moscow Metro on your own provides a much more comprehensive, truer experience, something much less sterile than following a guide.  What better place is there to see the “real” Moscow than on mass transit: A few hours will expose you to characters and caricatures you’ll be hard-pressed to find dining near the Bolshoi Theater.  You become part of the attraction, hear it in the screech of the train, feel it as hurried commuters brush by: The Metro sucks you beneath the city and churns you into the mix.

With the recommendations of our born-and-bred Muscovite students, my wife Emma and I have just taken a self-guided tour of what some locals consider the top ten stations of the Moscow Metro. What most satisfied me about our Metro tour was the sense of adventure .  I loved following our route on the maps of the wagon walls as we circled the city, plotting out the course to the subsequent stops; having the weird sensation of being underground for nearly four hours; and discovering the next cavern of treasures, playing Indiana Jones for the afternoon, piecing together fragments of Russia’s mysterious history.  It’s the ultimate interactive museum.

Top Ten Stations (In order of appearance)

Kievskaya station.

sirijus travel

Kievskaya Station went public in March of 1937, the rails between it and Park Kultury Station being the first to cross the Moscow River.  Kievskaya is full of mosaics depicting aristocratic scenes of Russian life, with great cameo appearances by Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin.  Each work has a Cyrillic title/explanation etched in the marble beneath it; however, if your Russian is rusty, you can just appreciate seeing familiar revolutionary dates like 1905 ( the Russian Revolution ) and 1917 ( the October Revolution ).

Mayakovskaya Station

Mayakovskaya Station ranks in my top three most notable Metro stations. Mayakovskaya just feels right, done Art Deco but no sense of gaudiness or pretention.  The arches are adorned with rounded chrome piping and create feeling of being in a jukebox, but the roof’s expansive mosaics of the sky are the real showstopper.  Subjects cleverly range from looking up at a high jumper, workers atop a building, spires of Orthodox cathedrals, to nimble aircraft humming by, a fleet of prop planes spelling out CCCP in the bluest of skies.

Novoslobodskaya Station

sirijus travel

Novoslobodskaya is the Metro’s unique stained glass station.  Each column has its own distinctive panels of colorful glass, most of them with a floral theme, some of them capturing the odd sailor, musician, artist, gardener, or stenographer in action.  The glass is framed in Art Deco metalwork, and there is the lovely aspect of discovering panels in the less frequented haunches of the hall (on the trackside, between the incoming staircases).  Novosblod is, I’ve been told, the favorite amongst out-of-town visitors.

Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya Station is one of palatial grandeur.  It seems both magnificent and obligatory, like the presidential palace of a colonial city.  The yellow ceiling has leafy, white concrete garland and a series of golden military mosaics accenting the tile mosaics of glorified Russian life.  Switching lines here, the hallway has an Alice-in-Wonderland feel, impossibly long with decorative tile walls, culminating in a very old station left in a remarkable state of disrepair, offering a really tangible glimpse behind the palace walls.

Dostoevskaya Station

sirijus travel

Dostoevskaya is a tribute to the late, great hero of Russian literature .  The station at first glance seems bare and unimpressive, a stark marble platform without a whiff of reassembled chips of tile.  However, two columns have eerie stone inlay collages of scenes from Dostoevsky’s work, including The Idiot , The Brothers Karamazov , and Crime and Punishment.   Then, standing at the center of the platform, the marble creates a kaleidoscope of reflections.  At the entrance, there is a large, inlay portrait of the author.

Chkalovskaya Station

Chkalovskaya does space Art Deco style (yet again).  Chrome borders all.  Passageways with curvy overhangs create the illusion of walking through the belly of a chic, new-age spacecraft.  There are two (kos)mosaics, one at each end, with planetary subjects.  Transferring here brings you above ground, where some rather elaborate metalwork is on display.  By name similarity only, I’d expected Komsolskaya Station to deliver some kosmonaut décor; instead, it was Chkalovskaya that took us up to the space station.

Elektrozavodskaya Station

sirijus travel

Elektrozavodskaya is full of marble reliefs of workers, men and women, laboring through the different stages of industry.  The superhuman figures are round with muscles, Hollywood fit, and seemingly undeterred by each Herculean task they respectively perform.  The station is chocked with brass, from hammer and sickle light fixtures to beautiful, angular framework up the innards of the columns.  The station’s art pieces are less clever or extravagant than others, but identifying the different stages of industry is entertaining.

Baumanskaya Statio

Baumanskaya Station is the only stop that wasn’t suggested by the students.  Pulling in, the network of statues was just too enticing: Out of half-circle depressions in the platform’s columns, the USSR’s proud and powerful labor force again flaunts its success.  Pilots, blacksmiths, politicians, and artists have all congregated, posing amongst more Art Deco framing.  At the far end, a massive Soviet flag dons the face of Lenin and banners for ’05, ’17, and ‘45.  Standing in front of the flag, you can play with the echoing roof.

Ploshchad Revolutsii Station

sirijus travel

Novokuznetskaya Station

Novokuznetskaya Station finishes off this tour, more or less, where it started: beautiful mosaics.  This station recalls the skyward-facing pieces from Mayakovskaya (Station #2), only with a little larger pictures in a more cramped, very trafficked area.  Due to a line of street lamps in the center of the platform, it has the atmosphere of a bustling market.  The more inventive sky scenes include a man on a ladder, women picking fruit, and a tank-dozer being craned in.  The station’s also has a handsome black-and-white stone mural.

Here is a map and a brief description of our route:

Start at (1)Kievskaya on the “ring line” (look for the squares at the bottom of the platform signs to help you navigate—the ring line is #5, brown line) and go north to Belorusskaya, make a quick switch to the Dark Green/#2 line, and go south one stop to (2)Mayakovskaya.  Backtrack to the ring line—Brown/#5—and continue north, getting off at (3)Novosblodskaya and (4)Komsolskaya.  At Komsolskaya Station, transfer to the Red/#1 line, go south for two stops to Chistye Prudy, and get on the Light Green/#10 line going north.  Take a look at (5)Dostoevskaya Station on the northern segment of Light Green/#10 line then change directions and head south to (6)Chkalovskaya, which offers a transfer to the Dark Blue/#3 line, going west, away from the city center.  Have a look (7)Elektroskaya Station before backtracking into the center of Moscow, stopping off at (8)Baumskaya, getting off the Dark Blue/#3 line at (9)Ploschad Revolyutsii.  Change to the Dark Green/#2 line and go south one stop to see (10)Novokuznetskaya Station.

Tuxedo's Sirius 16 Gen2 is an All-AMD Linux gaming laptop with a 165 Hz IPS panel — starts at 1699 Euros

On April 12th, 2024, Tuxedo Computers announced its Tuxedo Sirius 16 Gen2, a touted all-AMD gaming laptop running its custom Tuxedo Linux OS. The Sirius 16 Gen2, already available for order and configuration on the official Tuxedo website, is one of the latest laptops to leverage AMD's Hawk Point Ryzen 7 8845HS, which has a 17-watt higher default TDP than its lower-power 8840U and 7840U counterparts.

At the time of writing, it does seem that this is an EU-only laptop, but that could change with time— or shipping if you're determined enough.

Tuxedo Sirius 16 Gen2 Specs

Keyboard Type : Full

Screen Size and Resolution : 16.1 inches at 2560 x 1440 (1440p)

Screen Type : 300 Nits FreeSync IPS Panel with 100% sRGB coverage

I/O : 2 USB-A 3.2 Gen2 Ports, 1 Headphone Out, 1 Microphone In, RJ55 Gigabit LAN, HDMI 2.1 port wired to GPU, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x1 port wired to iGPU, USB-C Gen 4 wired to iGPU

Operating System : Tuxedo OS (default); Ubuntu LTS, Kubuntu LTS, or Ubuntu Budgie LTS

CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS; 8 cores, 16 threads; Boosts up to 5.1 Ghz

iGPU : AMD Radeon 780M (iGPU with 12 RDNA3 Compute Units)

RAM : Up to 96 GB DDR5-5600 MT/s RAM

GPU : AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT with 6GB GDDR6 VRAM

SSD : Two NVMe 4.0 slots; Cheapest config (€1699 Euros) with 16GB DDR5 is 500 GB NVMe Gen 3

Overall, the total package does seem nice, though the pricing does seem a little bit high for the internals on offer. This is definitely a laptop priced for its audience of Linux-savvy prosumers and gamers seeking a FOSS-friendly machine, and not so much maximizing performance per dollar . Most of the specs are pretty good (the screen and dedicated per-GPU USB ports w/ FreeSync ports are a highlight), and the maximum flex room for storage and RAM are both quite generous.

One downside of this machine compared to the Gen1 Tuxedo, though, is the lack of a GPU upgrade. Using the same Radeon RX 7600M XT discrete GPU as the Gen1 laptop feels like a lost opportunity.

SOSV founder says climate investing is a 'war effort' as firm closes $306M fund

For the firm that calls itself “the first check in deep tech,” the last check for SOSV’s latest $306 million fund took a bit longer than founder Sean O’Sullivan would have liked. “Given our track record, our rates of return, the proven successes, all the unicorns that have come out of SOSV in the past, you’d imagine we’d have closed it in three months,” O’Sullivan told TechCrunch in a recent interview. Instead, it took about a year and a half, with the most concerted effort occurring in the last six months, according to O’Sullivan.

Tesla layoffs hit high performers, some departments slashed, sources say

Tesla management told employees Monday that the recent layoffs -- which gutted some departments by 20% and even hit high performers -- were largely due to poor financial performance, a source familiar with the matter told TechCrunch. The layoffs were announced to staff just a week before Tesla is scheduled to report its first-quarter earnings. The move comes as Tesla has seen its profit margin narrow over the past several quarters, the result of an EV price war that has persisted for at least a year.
