Pga tour moves up tee times for final round of tour championship.

ATLANTA — The PGA Tour has moved up final round tee times Sunday at the Tour Championship in an attempt to avoid the potential for inclement weather.

Final-round tee times at East Lake will begin at 10:15 a.m. ET with the final group scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m., an hour earlier than originally scheduled.

Golf Channel’s “Pregame” coverage will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET with live final-round action starting at 11 a.m. Coverage will switch to NBC at 1 p.m.

Sunday’s forecast calls for a 45% chance of scattered thunderstorms. Play was delayed an hour and 35 minutes Friday because of inclement weather.

PGA Tour to extend Saudi merger deadline

Tiger Woods revealed earlier this month that the PGA Tour was upbeat on its chances of completing the deal before the end of the year

The PGA Tour is expected to announce that the deadline for the merger negotiations with the Saudi sovereign wealth fund is to be extended, with hopes that a deal can now be reached before the Masters in April.

When the “framework agreement” was unveiled almost seven months ago the previously warring parties expressed their confidence that they would have everything signed and sealed by December 31.

And earlier this month, Tiger Woods, a member of Tours’ policy board, insisted that they were still aiming to meet that date.

However, that was always an audacious aim with the advent of LIV Golf League – the breakaway circuits bankrolled by the Public Investment Fund - creating such bitter division in the professional male game.

And the cut-off point was seen as even more ambitious when the US Senate vowed to keep close tags on the mooted amalgamation and when the Tour began talking to private equity investors in America.

Indeed, the talks were largely on hold until after the Ryder Cup in October and the Saudis became frustrated with the progress and by the fact that pros on the policy board – which as well as Woods, included Rory McIlroy before he quit last month – had gained control of veto powers that could still scupper any deal.

Having previously agreed not to poach any more big names, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the PIF governor and chairman of LIV, earlier this month handed the Tour a timely and emphatic reminder of the Kingdom’s financial might by signing world No 3 Jon Rahm to a contract believed to be approximately £450 million.

This stunning development was widely seen as a shot across the Tour’s bows and not long after Sawgrass HQ announced that it had chosen Fenway Sports, the owners of LIverpool FC, as the US investors it wished to negotiate with going forward.

Sources insist that the choice of Fenway is positive news for harmony in the game.

The Strategic Sports Group – a consortium of American financiers who already own some of the biggest sports teams on the planet and led by Anfield supremos John Henry and Tom Werner – has close ties with working with the Middle East and SSG already have connections in Saudi.

Al-Rumayyan was scheduled to meet with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan just before Christmas, although no details have emerged. But there is set to be movement with the extension.

“There’s no chance a deal can be announced by the end of this week,” a leading industry figure told Telegraph Sport. “But, maybe by the end of March.”

Jorge Campillo glad to be back in Europe as he relishes Belfry challenge

His record might suggest otherwise but Jorge Campillo enjoys the challenge of The Belfry.

Since the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo moved to the venue in 2021, the Spaniard has missed the cut in each of his last three appearances. But not this time.

After a flawless five-under-par 67, on the back of an opening 68, in the second round over the Brabazon course, Campillo is one shot adrift of clubhouse leader Tyrrell Hatton as he looks to claim his fourth DP World Tour title.

"I enjoy playing here," he said. "I missed the last three cuts in this tournament, but I played here four years ago (in the ISPS HANDA UK Championship) and I played good.

"It's a good challenge. You have some nice par threes, a few short par fives that you can birdie. Also, strong par fours.

"I enjoy it. Really nice golf course. Makes you think off the tee, and to go for the greens is very nice."

As Campillo references, he does have some good memories from this week’s host venue having finished tied seventh when Rasmus Højgaard won the UK Championship.

Starting his second round from the tenth tee, Campillo made three front-nine birdies, before making back-to-back birdies at the seventh and eighth on his way.

“It wasn't very good off the tee and in middle of the round, but I hit my irons quite good and made some long putts, so that made it easy,” the World Number 128 reflected.

Campillo is making just his fifth DP World Tour start of the season after playing on both sides of the Atlantic this year after earning a PGA TOUR card through the Race to Dubai Rankings last year.

He made 17 starts on the US-based Tour, with three top 20s and a best of tied fourth at the Myrtle Beach Classic as he missed out on qualifying for the FedEx Cup PlayOffs.

Now, back on European soil, Campillo is relishing the chance to play at familiar locations as he looks to climb the DP World Tour's season-long rankings.

"Way too many trips over the Atlantic," said Campillo. "But it was a good experience.

"But it's definitely nice to be back, especially when you get a day like this in the U.K. and crowds like this, it's very nice."
