How to get the NHS Covid pass: How to prove you are fully vaccinated for travel and events with NHS app

If you're aged 16 or over, you can get an nhs covid pass depending on your vaccination status or covid-19 test results.

File photo dated 25/03/21 of a nurse preparing a Covid-19 vaccine. More than half of parents with children are willing to have them vaccinated against Covid-19 if jabs are offered to under-18s, a survey shows. Issue date: Sunday July 4, 2021. PA Photo. A YouGov poll of 938 parents with children aged 17 or under found that 53% would get their child vaccinated, rising to 59% of parents who have already had, or were planning to get, the jab themselves. People in England who have had a full course of the Covid-19 vaccine can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel.

It is recommended you register and use this service at least two weeks before you are due to travel.

The changing requirements for travellers mean fully vaccinated Britons will be able to travel to more than 140 countries on the amber list without quarantining on their return.

Here’s what you need to know about how to get the NHS Covid pass.

How can I get the NHS Covid pass?

People can prove their vaccination status through the NHS Covid Pass service:

  • in the  NHS App
  • through the  NHS website
  • with a paper letter

People need to register with NHS login for the digital services. NHS login registrations may take longer than usual when there are high numbers of requests.

If people cannot access online services, and they are due to travel abroad in the near future, they can call 119 to request a letter that will provide evidence of their vaccination status.

If you’re aged 16 or over, you can get an NHS Covid Pass depending on your vaccination status or Covid-19 test results.

In order to get the pass, you need two doses of the Moderna, Oxford/AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine, or one dose of the Janssen vaccine, a negative PCR test or rapid lateral flow test within the past 48 hours, and a positive PCR test within the past 6 months.

You can get a pass two weeks after your second vaccine, as soon as you get your negative PCR/lateral flow test result, or after you’ve finished self-isolating and up to 180 days after taking the positive PCR test.

It is recommended that you get the digital Covid Pass rather than the paper version, as you will be able to show this on your phone, tablet or laptop.

However, people in Wales cannot currently use the NHS App to access their NHS Covid Pass and vaccination status.

You can get an NHS Covid Pass letter sent to you in the post; this shows you’ve been vaccinated against Covid-19, but it does not show Covid-19 test results.

You can ask for a letter 2 weeks after having your 2nd dose of the vaccine, or 2 weeks after a single-dose Janssen vaccine. You should get it within 5 working days.

You do not need to be registered with a GP surgery or have an NHS login for this.

You can get a letter by:

  • requesting a Covid Pass letter online
  • calling 119 – do not call 119 if you’re travelling in more than 4 weeks’ time

It is also known as a Covid-19 post vaccination letter. The paper version does not have an expiry date.

In Scotland, you can request a printed copy of your vaccination status online or by phoning the Covid-19 Status Helpline.

Or you can view and request to print your vaccination status online by logging in using your unique username and password.

What do the new rules mean for fully vaccinated travellers?

The changes mean fully vaccinated Britons will be able to travel to more than 140 countries on the amber list without quarantine on their return.

Instead, holidaymakers will have to take PCR tests on day two of their return.

Children will be exempt from quarantine even though they are not vaccinated, but will also tests on day two of their return.

Mr Shapps told travel industry chiefs: “Day two testing will remain for arrivals from amber countries, regardless of vaccinated status, as this provides genomic sequencing capability to identify the risk of importing variants.”

PCR tests for holidaymakers returning from quarantine-free green list countries will also remain in place until at least 31 July, when the traffic light travel system will be reviewed for a second time.

Those who have not had both jabs will still have to quarantine when they return from an amber list country, or face a fine of up to £10,000.

You might need a Covid pass for some venues, events or for travelling purposes. The pass either indicates you are double vaccinated, or it proves you have a negative PCR test or you have recorded a negative lateral flow on the Government's website within the last 48 hours.

If you're wondering how to get a NHS Covid Pass on your phone and download a PDF of the pass, you're in the right place as we will walk you through it. We also have a separate feature on how to add the pass to your Apple Wallet if you are an iPhone user.

How to get an NHS Covid Pass

As mentioned, you need to be either double vaccinated to get an NHS Covid Pass, or you need to have recorded a negative result within the last 48 hours. For those opting for vaccination status route, you need to have been vaccinated in England, Wales or Isle of Man. Those vaccinated in Scotland need to live in England and be registered with a GP in England.

You can use the main NHS app (different to the track and trace app) to get a Covid Pass, or you can use the NHS website . You'll need an NHS login for both, which you can setup at the time, but the NHS website recommends doing it two weeks before you need the pass.

  • Download the NHS app for iPhone  | Download the NHS app for Android

To create an NHS login, you will need your NHS number and you'll need to enter some information about yourself. For the app, you will also need to do a video to prove who you are but it's very easy and there is a step-by-step. After you have created the NHS login and it's been certfied, you will be able to use one username and password to access the NHS app and website. You'll need to live in England and be registered with a GP in England to use it.

How long is a digital NHS Covid Pass valid?

If you are double vaccinated, the NHS Covid Pass is valid for 30 days. After the 30 days, you will need to refresh the pass and redownload a PDF copy, resend to your email or re-add it to your Apple Wallet.

If you have registered a negative PCR test or lateral flow test, the NHS Covid Pass is valid for 48 hours after the negative result.

If you have a postive PCR test, the NHS Covid Pass is valid for 30 days. This 30 day period will refresh everytime you log in though, up to 180 days after the positive result.

Anything else you need to know?

It's worth checking the expiry date on the PDF of your NHS Covid Pass before you use it.

If you're fully vaccinated or have had a positive test result, the barcode on the NHS Covid Pass PDF is valid for 30 days.

The NHS App might ask you to confirm your phone number when you log in. If you do not confirm it, your NHS Covid Pass will be valid for 72 hours.

travel pass covid nhs

I need to find a definitive answer to this question so any help is appreciated.

I suffer from anxiety and depression and am on a combination of heavy duty medication. I am taking two fairly potent anti-depressants with me and am also considering taking xanax and some sleeping pills (just in case i cant sleep and/or have a hefty anxiety attack). What is the standard protocol for this?

I presume that I have to pass through the red channel and declare them so:

- I have a print off of a 10 day prescription from my GP/Doctor - will that suffice?

- I also will have the meds in their original boxes with named labels - will that suffice also?

Do I need anything else to avoid issues?

Any links or help/advice is appreciated

Contact the Russian embassy for a list of prohibited medication. Some meds prescribed here, are prohibited in other countries.Fall foul of the rules, and you may become a drug smuggler, with all the complications that brings.

Is there any online source that I can check their list in regards to prohibited drugs?

Try asking on the Moscow forum, some of the regulars there may be able to help.

www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g298484-i718-Moscow_Central_Russia.html

Declare them for the customs, present a valid prescription and make sure you get the customs form stamped. Bringing strong drugs is not an issue when they are for personal use.

Tis crazy stuff trying to get answers through official channels - I've heard nothing back from the Russian Embassy in my country and unfortunately my own country's embassy in moscow cant get a straight answer out of the Russian Authorities

So much for easy travel for people with a mental disorder :(
