‘The Voice’ Season 23 Winner Gina Miles Journey to Stardom, All Performances
Reading Time: 3 minutes
The Voice has officially crowned their Season 23 winner, 18 year old Gina Miles. The Paxton, Illinois native has had quite the journey on the series, so let’s look back at each of her performances.
Gina Miles The Voice Journey
Blind audition – “the one that got away” by katy perry.
Gina first came to The Voice stage singing a soft, yet powerful version of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away.” Right off the bat, Kelly Clarkson turned for the singer, later, Niall Horan followed Clarkson’s lead. Even though Clarkson tried her best to persuade Gina, Blake Shelton was all for Gina joining Team Niall. To get Gina to join his team, Horan explained that he doesn’t have the same industry experience as Clarkson, but he knows what it’s like to excel throughout a show. Gina chose Team Niall.
Battle Round – “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver
In the Battle Rounds, Gina performed an emotional rendition of “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver with Kala Banham . Although both singers were amazing in this performance, Horan picked Gina as the battle winner.
Knockout Round – “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye
In the Knockout Rounds, Gina faced against powerhouse artist Kate Cosentino. Gina impressed with her rendition of “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye in this round. This performance truly showed off how large her singing range is.
Playoffs- “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak
Following The Knockout Round, Gina returned with an emotionally beautiful performance of “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak. This was truly the song that elevated Gina in the competition. It was the absolute best pick for her and her vocals.
Top 8 – “All I Want” by Kodaline
In Semifinals, Gina returned with yet another impressive rendition. Once again, she showed off her lower register with “All I Want” by Kodaline. America loved this performance, saving the singer from elimination.

Top 5- “Style” by Taylor Swift
For the Finale, Gina asked to perform a pop song by none other than Taylor Swift . Since we had only heard slower songs from Gina (other than her blind audition) this was a bit of a change. The singer hopes to pursue pop music professionally, so it makes sense that she’d want to perform a popular, pop song.
Live Finale – “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinéad O’Connor
Gina’s second Finale performance was yet another stunning slower song. “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinéad O’Connor once again showed off the singer’s abilities in her lower range. I personally loved the staging for this performance as well, it was so well done. It felt like Gina had already won the show and we’re now at her concert.
Coach Performance – “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel
In the Finale Part 2, Gina finally got the chance to perform with her coach, Niall Horan. The two picked a fantastic song for both of their registers. They truly had one of the best coach performances of the night.

Over the course of Season 23 of The Voice , a big deal was made of the fact that Team Niall Horan’s Gina Miles was, as Jerry Seinfeld would have called her , a low talker. But Zooming with TVLine about her victory, the effervescent 19-year-old could be heard loudly and clearly — a good thing, too, because she had a lot to say about everything from the debunked theory that retiring coach Blake Shelton had to win to which performance she thought was her standout.
TVLINE | You looked so, so shocked when Carson Daly announced that you had won. How long did it take for it to sink in? I’m still processing! It was really a crazy moment in my life that is an unforgettable thing.
TVLINE | So you can actually remember it — or was it like an out-of-body experience? I was gone. I was so far gone! After, we got to the car, and I was like, “How did I get here?”
TVLINE | Were you aware as you went through the competition that the prevailing theory that someone from Team Blake had to win because it was his last season? For the contestants, we’re really just focused on the music. I don’t think anybody was too worried about winning. We all just wanted to put on really good performances.
TVLINE | Was there one performance over the rest that you thought, “Yeah, I nailed that one!”? [ Laughs ] I’m very self-critical after performances, because I do want them to be perfect. But [Chris Isaak’s] “Wicked Game” was one of my favorites that I got to do on the show.
TVLINE | A lot of commenters on our recap ( read it here ) felt like Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” in the finale was a capital-M Moment for you, because it’s such a big song. It’s a huge song! I’m very honored that I got to sing it. It was a very big moment for me and an emotional time. I never thought that I would be closing the show. That was really insane to do that. But it was a really fun song, despite how sad of a song it is. It was super cool.
TVLINE | Who doesn’t! Have you and Niall talked about duetting again after the finale? We definitely chat, and I’m really happy with our performance [of Billy Joel’s ‘New York State of Mind’]. It’s one of my favorites that I got to do, and singing with him was an unforgettable experience.
TVLINE | He looked like he was going to projectile out of his seat when your name was announced. He really did hop up so fast!
TVLINE | There was a lot of discussion on the show about how soft-spoken you are. Do you think you’re going to get louder now that, basically, your life is concerts and interviews ? [ Laughs ] I definitely have to, as part of my job. And a big part of the show for me [is] that I’ve been able to get a little more confidence to be a bit louder. Because I know people can never hear me when I talk! So I’m trying my best! It’s really not that bad, as I thought it was, but I’m sure I’ll always be like this because it’s just who you are, you know? But I will try my best to be louder… especially at concerts, you’ve got to be loud and energetic. I can’t be like, [ Whispers ] “Everybody, let’s go! Put your hands up!”
TVLINE | For what it’s worth, I can hear you just fine. But I might have the volume turned way up. You should have seen — the audio crew at The Voice was like, “ Girl !” They were so sweet. Everybody was always so nice to me, but they were like, “Can you please just talk a little bit louder?” and I was like, [ Softly ] “Mm-hmm.” [ Laughs ] But I’m trying to get better at it.

On his very first season of The Voice , Niall Horan stole a win from his TV dad, Blake Shelton !
The first-time coach pulled out a victory in Tuesday's season 23 finale, with his Team Niall singer, Gina Miles , beating out Team Blake's Grace West, in what host Carson Daly said was the smallest margin of victory in Voice history.
Blake was angling for a record-extending 10th victory in his final season on the NBC singing competition, but this time, the student outshone the master.
"He said, 'I taught you everything you know!'" Niall laughed with ET's Cassie DiLaura backstage after the finale, recalling Blake's reaction. "That's not even a joke. It was such a special night for him, but it was also fantastic to kick that man out the door."
The victory came amidst star-studded performances and tributes to Blake's 23 seasons on the show, however, no one was more emotional than Gina when the news was announced.
"t was crazy, I just did not expect that," the soft-spoken 19-year-old singer told ET backstage after her big win. "I'm just so very grateful to be here."
Still reveling in the moment, Gina was candid when it came to what's next for her. "I haven't slept in like, days, so I'm probably going to sleep and eat and call my dad," she shared.
And Niall had nothing but praise for his young star, and pledged to help her continue to further her career and keep this moment going.
"I can't think of a bad performance she's put in," he said of her time on the show. "It's tough out there. It's not easy for any of us. But I'm going to try and make sure that Gina gets looked after, get her in the right rooms, let her write from her heart, and see what happens."
ET spoke with Niall -- who will officially be back for his second Voice season in the fall -- ahead of Monday's finale performance show, where he raved about Gina's talent, calling his shot and saying the gifted teen performer deserved the win
"She deserves to win it like the girl is so gifted she's 19 years old I think we're forgetting that too and she sings like that it's just insane to have such big controlled tone at that age is just nuts um and I asked the people of america when you're voting think about the future past this show um I think she's got a very very bright future this girl um fingers crossed for her
Niall also opened up about becoming fast friends with longtime Blake Shelton this season -- and bidding him farewell as he departs the show after 23 seasons.
"We're gonna have a few drinks, no doubt," Niall said with a smile. "I'm gonna miss him. Big time. I've made a real friend."
"Like, I didn't know the guy in October of last year, but he's just been a constant. We text every day. He's been a laugh the whole [time]," shared the singer. "I hope he doesn't win it! But I'm gonna miss him."
The Voice will return this fall for season 24.

Updated:
Gina Miles was the winner of season 23 of The Voice , leading Niall Horan to victory as a member of his team. Since her experience on the show, which she described to People as “scary and emotionally draining” as well as “the best experience of [her] life,” Miles has put out some of her own music and performed a couple of times as well.
Videos by American Songwriter
Following her win, she was signed to Republic Records, owned by Universal Media Group. Among her first performances, she sang the national anthem at a graduation ceremony for Sacramento firefighters. She was also the opening act to Jewel at The Venue at Thunder Valley in September 2023. In October 2023, Miles also performed the national anthem at the Dallas Cowboys vs San Francisco 49s football game.
In July 2023, she teased new original music on her Instagram. She posted part of a song titled “Someone New,” which got her fans excited at the prospect of more music from the winner.
Before she was on The Voice, in January 2022, Gina Miles independently released her debut EP, Who Are You . The singles included “I Can Feel It,” “End With You,” “Cherry Pie,” and “Incredibly Impatient.” Heavy.com described the EP as “very experimental” in June 2023.
In May 2023, Miles told Parade that she plans to produce music that “feels authentic and real.” Her fans are still waiting on it, but it seems like she’s taking her time to perfect her craft.

Meanwhile, season 25 of The Voice began with some promising talent and dirty tricks from the coaches as they tried to convince the auditioners to sway one way or another. Reba McEntire brought out chicken tenders, and at one point John Legend had an inflatable tube man with Pick Team Legend emblazoned on it.
Dan + Shay seem to be getting the hang of the blind auditions surprisingly fast, as they already have three people on their team. They took to singing with one of them, Ryan Argast, who performed their song “Speechless.” Dan + Shay took the stage with Ryan to perform a few bars, celebrating having him on their team.
Chance the Rapper even took the stage to sing with a contestant, doing his best John Legend impression to the song “Ordinary People.” He ultimately beat John Legend at a John Legend contest, as the contestant chose Chance’s team over Team Legend.
To see who super girl group OK3 chooses, fans will have to tune in tonight (February 27) at 8 pm on NBC.

After Season 23 wrapped, Horan manifested Miles opening up for him one day — and who knew the day would come so quickly?
"If we can get her on some shows, things will have to happen in the background, but absolutely yeah," Horan explained to E! . "I mean this girl, I've been saying it for so long, I feel like no one was listening. This girl is like, you know talent when you hear it. Sacramento singer Gina Miles says she hasn't slept much since being crowned the winner of the 23rd season of NBC's "The Voice" on Tuesday night.
"It’s really crazy," she told KCRA 3's Brandi Cummings on Wednesday morning. "I'm just very excited."
The 19-year-old grew up in Paxton, Illinois, before moving to Sacramento at the end of her junior year of high school to live with her aunt and pursue her musical dreams.
Moving to the Sacramento area was a big move that has already paid off for the seemingly shy, small-town girl in the national spotlight.
"I love it in California," she said.
She described winning "The Voice" as the best experience of her life and said she was surprised by the result and thankful for the fans who voted for her.
"Me and my friends, like standing up there, just excited to be there at all. I genuinely did not do this to win, I just did it for the experience and the people. And then they called my name, which was really crazy," Miles said after learning about her fate.
Miles told KCRA 3 that it's "really cool" she's now getting a record deal and that she wants to "sing everywhere."
Asked whether she'll now be able to perform in the KCRA 3 studios or would plan to hold a concert in Sacramento, Miles said, "I'm sure we can work something out."
Miles made a winner out of new coach Niall Horan, who will be joined by John Legend, Gwen Stefani and country superstar Reba McEntire in the "Voice" chairs this fall.
The show Tuesday night also marked an end for the final original coach, Blake Shelton.
Miles had strong competition in Grace West and NOIVAS for Team Blake, D. Smooth for Team Kelly, and the sister trio Sorelle for Team Chance.

Gina Miles' Return to The Voice Stage Featured Her Most Haunting Vocals Yet
The Voice Season 23 winner stopped by the Season 25 Finale to perform a rendition of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game."
It's always gratifying seeing winners of The Voice skyrocket to success. And during the Season 25 Finale on May 21, returning champion Gina Miles proved yet again she's an Artist to watch.
How to Watch
Watch the Season 26 premiere of The Voice on Monday, September 23 at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.
Miles first charmed Voice audiences during Season 23 as a member of Coach Niall Horan 's team. She instantly impressed the Coaches with her belt-heavy Blind Audition but blew their minds after they heard her soft-toned speaking voice. Horan was enamored by Miles' talent, and it didn't take long for her to become the season's frontrunner.
Miles returned to The Voice stage for the first time since winning for the Season 25 Finale. Here's what happened:

Miles' performance of "Wicked Game" was a smash, and it got the kick-off it deserved after her former Coach made a special appearance for the occasion.
“I wish I could be there for her tonight, but I also know how proud I am of this girl and how hard she’s worked," Horan explained via video call, before intro'ing her to the stage.
From the moment the lights dimmed, Miles' hypnotic alto range snagged the crowd's attention. As we learned in Season 23, Miles excels at bringing listeners in and keeping them at attention until her song concludes. In honor of the return of a champion, the Voice stage was transformed into an eerie, brooding landscape, perfect for the haunting tone of Isaak's 1989 hit. Miles' bewitching low register was a lovely complement to the melancholic ballad.
“No, I don’t want to fall in love,” Miles sang dreamily as the crowd was thoroughly transfixed. Miles finished the set with a bang, hitting a mind-boggling long note. Of course, right after this, the crowd exploded with applause.
