Doubletree by Hilton”

Great escape to a paradise island. Service is superb. Staff quietly but with friendliness go about making your stay a happy, calm and relaxing one. A pity the shared beach equipment was all unavailable due to covid restrictions. Watching the sea life at night time, due to effective lighting, was a major treat.

Perfect For Quick Winter Get Away ”

It was just what we needed. Warm, easy and relaxing. Great place will come again. Esp if a few fresh items are added to the menu and even a very small À la cart menu would be much appreciated and would enhance the overall very good experience.

So much potential”

The DoubleTree by Hilton Ilot Maitre Resort should be an example of the best the Hilton Group has to offer, with an incredible location with views towards Noumea, really nice rooms (we stayed in an overwater bungalow), most comfortable hotel bed we have ever slept in, free Wi-Fi, gym, good buffet breakfast, friendly reception staff and lots of turtles swimming in the lagoon in front of the hotel (that you can swim with too). But unfortunately, it is let down by a number of things like scavenging seagulls on the roof above the restaurant patio waiting to pounce on your food when you turn your head, no water sports activities (unless you bring your own equipment), no shop, poor and expensive wine list and at night, a restaurant serving a very average, very limited and very expensive buffet dinner, with the same food served every night and with no menu options. We would definitely come back, but the dinner option frustrations mean it would only be for a few nights.

DOUBLETREE BY HILTON NOUMEA ILOT MAITRE RESORT Our Resort Report

OUR Thoughts on Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort, New Caledonia Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort is on Maitre Islet, a beautiful little island in the lagoon off Noumea. Maitre Islet is approximately 4 kilometres off Anse Vate Bay and can be clearly seen from Anse Vate. The lagoon is full of marine life and it is not uncommon for guests staying in the Overwater Bungalows at Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort to be visited by the turtles living in the lagoon.  Maitre Islet is a long, narrow island which broadens out a little to the north and south.  Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort's central hotel facility is in the middle of the island at its narrowest part and faces west capturing the sunsets.  The swimming pool complex has a swim-up bar and a beautiful semi-circular alfresco dining deck built around the pools and out over the lagoon.

The tariff at Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort includes a full buffet breakfast. Although meals are mainly buffet-style, a chef attends the buffet and will cook eggs, steaks etc as required. We know that many guests use the Resort Shuttle boat to go into town to stock up on wine and snack food which they consume back in and around their Bungalows. The island is open to day-trippers from Noumea and can be quite busy during the day, especially during the weekends.  However, the island is long and narrow with lots of beaches so there is plenty of space for day-trippers and hotel guests to spread out. As a result of having the day-trippers Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort does have an extremely wide range of activities on offer from jet skis to banana-boat rides and stand-up paddle boards. There is always something happening at Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort. The recently added outdoor wedding chapel on an artificial islet in the middle of the lagoon regularly hosts wedding. There is always an active vibe about the place during the day, but as the sun sets over the lagoon and the day-trippers depart, the whole atmosphere changes to a beautiful tropical calm.

Doubletree by Hilton Noumea Ilot Maitre Resort is a destination in itself and you could easily spend a week or more enjoying what it has to offer.  It’s also a pleasant change from the mainland for a few days on any holiday in New Caledonia.

Amedee Island Day Trip - Is it worth it?

Cool Cruiser

Been to Noumea like most regular cruisers many times & the only thing we haven't done that interests us is the Amedee Island day trip at $274 per person at today's rate.

We love to snorkel on good reefs with a lot of sea life (think Lifou's Jinek Bay) or Scuba Dive if an option (we are certified divers) & the historical lighthouse interests us.

Is the reef really nice? How does it compare to other regular island stops like Mystery Island, Lifou or Isle Of Pines?

So for those who have been to Amadee in the last year or so - do you think it was worth the price?

Hmmm, difficult question !  I was there a bit over 18 months ago and did the ships tour on Carnival.

Getting to see and snorkel with the turtles was great, but the reef is better at Janek Bay (saying that, I didn't snorkel a long way out and apparently it is better the further out you go).

The glass bottom boat was fun, and seeing the dancers at lunch was too.  The food was pretty good.  The lighthouse was closed when I was there so we couldn't go up it.  We did see scuba-divers, but they were with a separately organised tour (and I don't think even on the cruise) so you might be able to organise something separately if you want.

I really enjoyed the day trip, but for me I don't think it was worth the price that Carnival charged.  If you could get it cheaper with a scuba tour (and want to risk getting back to the ship on time) that might be a better option for you.

Not really.

I was in the same position as you, having been to Noumea numerous times and getting less impressed each time. The time before last I stayed on the ship. The most recent time I decided to go to Amedee.

It's a long trip out and a long trip back. When we went it happened to be the race day for the local yachties and a big crowd of them were camped out on Amedee waiting for the wind to come up so that they could race back to Noumea. As a result it was a bit crowded.

The island itself is not particularly pretty, it's just a big sand cay with some scrubby vegetation covering it. Nowhere near as attractive as Mystery or Dravuni islands. The lighthouse on the island is worth a look. Remember to take some cash for the entrance fee. They took Aussie dollars. There is also a small tourist shop.

The snorkeling is OK, but not better than Lifou or Mystery Island. You get a glass bottom boat ride and there is a sit down lunch which was quite nice. To go with the lunch there is a Tahitian style dance show. If you are quick there are lounge chairs strategically placed around the beach. Keep an eye out for the yellow striped sea snakes, they like to come up onto the beach.

Overall I thought it was an OK excursion but way overpriced.

Like

whilst i have not been to amdee island ,I have been to escapade island and resort on a private tour and found it to be one of the best days of my life. The resort is gorgeous and you gt full run of the pools and the lunch was really lovely, then a group of us with our guide went snorkelling to see the turtles in the sea grass, and they were everywhere. Not being much of a snorkeller, I thoroughly enjoyed this, and seeing the turtles that close was truely memorable. We were collected from the ship by coach and taken to the ferry and after about 20min were at the resort. It was a very enjoyable day, one i would gladly repeat if we get back to noumea. On their website it is now around $140 AUD. (gateway tours noumea)

 Hope that might help. Maree

Trip Advisor has Mary D has full day tours to Amedee Island for around $200-220 AUD.

We did a ship's tour about four or five years ago for sentimental reasons. It was 35 years since our previous visit with our two sons when they were aged 2 & 4. We enjoyed the day out but it is really overpriced and I can only iterate what has been said above, good food, snorkelling better elsewhere. There was free use of snorkeling equipment and SUPs (stand up paddleboards).

martin jenkins

september 2018 we booked a tour to signal island think was about $65 pp, was a fantastic day out.

Thanks for the replies.

Seems it's overpriced for what it is & for what interests us, so we will give it a miss & check out the other options mentioned.

Brisbane41

I did it 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. I thought it was worth it. They put on a really good lunch with plenty of food and drinks. There was plenty of space on the beach to spread out and a variety of places to swim without being crowded. The lighthouse was worth the climb as well. Overall it was a relaxing and easy day and I am glad I did it. I have done it once so I do not have to do it again and find another activity next time is my opinion. If you have on board credit to cover it then you are not really paying if you can use it.

IslandHopperPro

We were there in January 2018 via a shore excursion from Explorer of the seas. On our previous cruise to Noumea on Radiance passengers raved about it so we particularly went on our next opportunity. Yes it wasn't cheap, and though we didn't necessarily go for the snorkelling (but we did enjoy the glass bottom boat), we had a fabulous day out on the island swimming, eating and drinking.  There was plenty of terrific food put on for us and the alcoholic punch was very refreshing and lots of it, bonus!  The entertainment was also a nice diversion. So yeah, IMHO it was a great day out...but only you can determine whether it is worth the price of admission.

Thanks for your input, but we have decided the price isn't worth it for us.

We are scuba divers so the glass bottom boat isn't our thing, not really swayed by food as we get plenty of that on the ship and we get free drinks onboard as well. :) So we are looking into some other options, but not really worried if we end up staying on board this time round in Noumea.

On a separate note have you been to the Cultural Centre.   We did this as a fill in one day and were blown away by the displays and gardens and of course the architecture. We also went to the Botanicalgardens once and they were quite interesting, lots of walking up and down hills, I was close to kidnapping a Segway rider and taking his machine.  My delightful daughter then asked me how was I going to ride/drive it.  Hmm kept walking.

There's also a big difference in Cruise companies with prices to Amedee; RCL who your going with seem's to be the highest by far, while P&O are $199, so was Carnival when I was in Noumea last OCT. Princess is $225, I have been told.

Escapade Island is a good Alternative. If you want the snorkling experience with fish 7 Turtles & then have a Buffett lunch. But it has gone up condiserably from $85 AUD in 2015 to now over $150 as mentioned above.

I have a few friends & I'm going to try a NEW option it's called Noumea Turtle Tours; To Signal Island only $65 AUD; but no lunch & no real Ammedities (toilet, buildings); But it has just as good or better Turtle snorkling...

The main point about Amedee is that it's a quite nice island, but it's just not any better than the islands that you will be going to on your cruise before/after Noumea, which cost nothing to get to.

We went to Amedee in December with RCCL.  Having been to Noumea a number of times, we thought it might be good to do something different.

While we had a wonderful day but perhaps did not represent value for money.  Got to agree with Sinbad - I thought Mystery Island was just as good.

Amadee was stupid expensive, but well worth it. The sea snakes and turtles offered a unique snorkelling experience compared to the rest of the island. Snakes freaked the ex out, but they are harmless 🙂

Only gripe is how remote it was, took quite a while to get to/from which of course eats into your day.

Island Escapade: The Ultimate Minjerribah / Stradbroke Island Day Trip Planner

Posted by Kerry Heaney | Brisbane travel | 18

Embark on a delightful Minjerribah / Stradbroke Island day trip from Brisbane and immerse yourself in secluded beaches and a laid-back island lifestyle.

Table of Contents

The Perfect Minjerribah / Stradbroke Island road trip from Brisbane

One by one, drop your mainland cares and worries into the deep blue water of Moreton Bay as you cruise on the barge to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). It’s only an hour away from Brisbane, but island life seems much more distant from the hustle and bustle of city life.

This is a place where the day runs by tides and weather. Where the activities are organised by Mother Nature, and the nights are the time for a gentle recharge.  Think beach strolls, fishing from the headlands, walking around the gorges and swimming in the lakes. While outdoor life can be a priority, there are also shops stocked with unique island products, cafes and restaurants and a market to explore.

Locals will tell you that the weather on Straddie, as they call the island, is warmer in winter and cooler in summer, in the microclimate of mainland weather. It’s not uncommon to swim in the ocean most of the year, and the sea breezes keep the worst of summer’s sub-tropical heat at bay.

Starting your Straddie day trip

The Stradbroke Ferries vehicle barge leaves Brisbane from Toondah Harbour in the bayside suburb of Cleveland. For a Brisbane to Stradbroke Island day trip, make sure you pre-book a return car spot and book early for peak periods. The ferry journey takes about 50 minutes to reach Dunwich. It’s a great time to relax with a coffee or beer in the top-level café. Driving off the ferry at Dunwich, the first thing you will notice is that there are no traffic lights. Instead, there are just 22 kilometres of sealed roads connecting the three centres of Dunwich, Amity Point and Point Lookout.

Stradbroke Ferries also offers a 30-minute passenger taxi, which is useful when you are meeting friends already on the island.  The ferry links with the local Stradbroke Island bus service, and there are also transfer services available to take you to your destination.

Salt Water Murris Quandamooka Aboriginal Art Gallery

This Stradbroke Island day trip begins in Dunwich

It’s tempting to just hit the road and speed off to your accommodation at Point Lookout, leaving Dunwich behind, but that would be a mistake.  There is much to explore in the island’s main centre, including the paintings at Salt Water Murris Quandamooka Aboriginal Art Gallery in Ballow Road, a contemporary visual arts and craft centre and the Island Gallery, where you’ll enjoy a great view of the water.

Artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins interprets her family’s stories of life on Minjerribah (Stradbroke Island) through textiles, ceramics and jewellery. You will find her stunning works at Made on Minjerribah in Stradbroke Place. Would you like to know more about local artists?  Follow this self-guided Stradbroke Island Art Trail .

Look for the big trees near the jetty to find the Dunwich swimming enclosure.  It is perfect for a quick ocean dip on a high tide before you board the barge home.   Brown Lake, 3.5 kilometres out of Dunwich, is another favourite swimming spot with barbecue and picnic facilities. The rainwater in this perched lake is coloured by native tea trees. Stop for French pastries, New York-style bagels and awesome pizzas at CJs Pizza in Dunwich.  They have the best on the island.

North Stradbroke Island Historical Museum

North Stradbroke Island Historical Museum.

A bit of history

Home to the Quandamooka people for centuries as a seasonal visiting place and tribal land,  Minjerribah/North Stradbroke Island has been the site of European settlements for the past 180 years.  First used as a military depot and convict outstation, it was a later a Catholic mission, a quarantine station and benevolent asylum. You can explore the island’s fascinating history at the North Stradbroke Island Historical Museum in Welsby Street, housed in original and replica Benevolent Asylum buildings. Take a wander through the graveyard where 8500 people are buried in unmarked graves.

Diabla Oysters

Freshly shucked oysters are a Straddie treat.

Off to Amity Point

Just out of Dunwich on the bush-lined road to Amity Point, you’ll find Myora Springs.  A favoured camping place for generations of Indigenous people, the freshwater spring has large middens on its banks. It takes about 20 minutes on this Stradbroke Island day trip to drive the 18 curvy kilometres via East Coast Road and Beehive Road between Dunwich and the relaxed seaside village of Amity Point. Stop for lunch at Sealevel 21 at Amity in Ballow Road or Bo Beans Coffee (many say this is the best coffee on the island).

Then, take a dip in the shark-safe swimming enclosure on high tide. Look for wild dolphins around the jetty at 4 pm daily.

Diabla Oysters

Amity is the centre for the island’s fishing community. Stock up here on local prawns, crabs, oysters, bugs and fish at Rufus King Seafoods on Sovereign Road, During the oyster season from September to February, pick up freshly shucked shellfish from Diabla Oysters in Kawana Street.  What’s a Straddie day trip without a seafood feast?

Seashells at Amity Point

Sealevel 21 at Amity.

Watch the whales at Point Lookout

From Amity Point, it is another easy 20-minute Stradbroke Island day trip drive (18-kilometres) via East Coast Road and Dickson Way to Point Lookout. Point Lookout’s gentle 15-minute North Gorge Walk is a top whale watching spot in the season from late May to early November. It could be the highlight of your Straddie day trip. Locals say to buy a gelato and eat it while walking around the headland.

On a good day, you might spot 12 whales in an hour or just enjoy seeing the kangaroos which have made Headland Park their home. Continue your whale spotting from Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel Bistro on Dickson Way ,  and take in the views out to Shag Rock. For breakfast or a light lunch with sea views, try The Blue Room.

Next door, The Prawn Shack on Mintee Street has fresh local mackerel and seafood. The Sunday market at Stradbroke Bowls Club is where local artisans sell their wares during school holidays. It is also a wonderful place to pick up local honey, freshly shucked oysters or the day’s catch from the sea. There are plenty of beaches to explore near Point Lookout when it is time for a swim. Home Beach has an off-leash area for dogs, and north-facing Cylinder Beach is the place to swim when a southerly wind blows.  The Bowls Club also has a thriving night-time restaurant which is open most days and very popular with locals.

The beach at South Gorge is not patrolled, but is easy swimming when a northerly wind is blowing. Point Lookout’s Main Beach is where the real surfing action happens, especially when there is an easterly wind.

Straddie Point Lookout beach

Going off-road

Beach driving and camping is a popular Straddie day trip activity, especially for fishermen when the mullet is running from May to August. Only 4WD vehicles are permitted on Flinders Beach and Main Beach with entry at marked access points. Just remember, you can’t drive on the beach for one hour and 15 minutes on either side of high tide. A Vehicle Access Permit for beach driving can be obtained from Minjerribah Camping .

Turn your Straddie day trip into an overnight stay

You’ll need somewhere to stay on your Stradbroke Island day trip. The island offers a mix of accommodation, including resorts, holiday house rentals and camping, mostly at Amity Point and Point Lookout.  Explore the options or try Stradbroke Island glamping .

During the peak holiday periods, Stradbroke Island businesses, cafes and restaurants usually open every day.  During quieter times, many small businesses close on Monday and Tuesday, so be sure to check the opening hours if you are travelling off-peak.

One of the best local places to view the whale trail from land. Good tip Belinda!

Here’s another coincidence Patsy – I have that book too!

Belinda

There’s nothing better than catching a whale cruising up their superhighway from the Point Lookout lookout!!

Patsy FitzGerald

What a beautiful slice of paradise is our Straddie. I have only been once, a few years back with a couple of girlfriends & our daughters, (all Straddie-virgins!) What a fun weekend we had at WhaleWatcher resort, where we didn’t see any whales (wrong time of year I guess) but such a beautiful view. The water was stunningly clean & clear, a perfect temperature to swim in the roley poley waves & then a relax on the beach for a bit of vitamin D. I picked up a cookbook while there, to which my husband just rolled his eyes. He knows I can’t go anywhere without visiting a book store, second-hand book shop or library. I love my coffee-table book which is a trove of info on the island & it’s history, including an informative piece on the Quandamooka people, a nod to the indigenous people who’ve inhabited this island since time immemorial. My favourite recipe would be the Grilled Moreton Bay Bugs, but I need to get back there to buy some of Straddie’s beautiful, fresh bugs to make it! And guess what the books called Kerry?… Eat, Drink and be Straddie.!! Huh, coincidence, or what?

I hope you mean ‘never fail to please’ Anita! Straddie Brewing Beer is a great tip.

You are in the running Krista.

I bet you have some great Straddie sunrise photos Margot.

You can feel the stress evaporating on Straddie – so relaxing there.

What a great way to show off the region. Good tip Karl!

Bingo with the kids sounds like so much fun. Bowls Clubs are the best.

That’s a great tip Clare and so good that it is dog friendly too.

Clare Alexandrou

People always forget about The Little Ship Club at Dunwich. This place is like the land time forgot. They have great meals, fresh prawns and 1982 drink prices with a million dollar view ! Best in the afternoon to watch the sunset. There is a huge grassy area with tables and they often have live music. It is also dog friendly so you can take your pooch for a beer or a glass of bubbles and take in those last bay and sunset views before you come back to the mainland. A must on the way to the Barge home !

Ann Rainbow

Thanks Kerry…always love reading your delightful road-tripping stories! Straddie is the perfect place to unwind. Our top tips include taking the family down to Point Lookout Bowls Club for a great night of bingo or trivia and dinner (it’s surprising how competitive the kids get…always a lot of laughs to be had). Following the morning at the beach, stop by Oceanic Gelato for the best gelato or coffee. And if you are passionate about design make sure you stroll around the back streets of the island…you will enjoy seeing many fantastic architect-designed beach homes, plus some older mid-century beach shacks (highly likely you will also spot the odd koala and wallaby which is a treat for everyone). Happy holidays!

Karl

Being a Brisbane local, I always take friends I’ve met from overseas trips to Minjerribah/Straddie! It’s nearly always a day trip as they are nearly in a hurry to see ‘everything in Aus.’ I tell them just to pack their togs and be prepared to explore, as we have a big day. Leave lunch to me. I secretly pack ingredients for a picnic into my backpack, wine (Granite Belt of course), and everything I’ll need for a seafood picnic (except for the seafood – you can get that on straddie!). After building up a hunger looking around Point Lookout, seeing turtles, eagles, kangaroos, lizards, whales, dolphins, rays, you name it, and going for a swim at a surf beach, we find a picnic spot (can’t tell you where). I get the seafood. The seafood is nearly always the best-tasting, freshest, biggest prawns my guests have ever seen, and the local oysters are always a treat. The wine, miraculously, always comes out of nowhere, and it’s always very appreciated! And we just sit there basking in the incredible nature, having an amazing picnic with an amazing view. And then afterwards, we trace the coast around to the Stradbroke Island Hotel for beers until the last bus comes around. It’s such a simple day but I always get told its among the best things travelling friends have experienced in Australia. It’s a special place.

Adrienne Harries

Straddie is always an adventure and brings me a smile ; we go there to chill. fish, and enjoy the relaxed lifestyle

Margot Taylor

North Straddie has the most easily accessible island near Brisbane. Many ferries, loads of wildlife and oodles of places to eat. I especially love the deep clear water, sand dunes and kangaroos everywhere. Sunrise and sunsets have always been winners for me.

Krista Hauritz

Gotta be in it to win it. Please count us in for the Free Ferry Ride comp.

Kerry, your blogs never fail to disappoint with handy tips and facts of things to do and find! We love Straddle for the magical combination of pristine beaches, Australia’s best wildlife on display and spectacular views at every corner. Keen to go over and try the new Straddle Brewing beer and we’ve never been to Diabla Oysters, so that will be on the itinerary for our next trip.

Day trip to Escapade Island

We found this day trip on Tripadvisor, wanting to do some snorkeling and relaxing during our cruise. Communication with Genie was excellent. We paid a deposit via bank transfer and received very clear instructions for our day (we paid the balance on the day using pacific francs). Collection was at the point where our cruise shuttle dropped us so that was convenient. The bus tour was Ok, as there's not really much in Noumea itself to see by bus. The main attraction is the trip to Escapade Island. Alfred was a great guide and set healthy time allowances for snorkeling before and after the fantastic seafood buffet lunch. You can buy extra drinks at the pool or restaurant bar. We didn't. Water was provided with lunch and we had drink bottles with us. Because he knew I wanted to swim with turtles, Alfred acted as spotter for me on the boardwalk that connects the overwater bungalows of the resort. The water is very clear so he pointed out lots of different fish before we found turtles. A bit of rain didn't dampen spirits (we were wet anyway) and the ferry ride back was great. The pickup & dropoff point has a market and cafes and was opposite a supermarket so that was handy too. Thanks for a great day!

escapade island day trip

We were on a cruise from Sydney with one port being Noumea. We have been to Noumea a couple of times previously and had a miserable time - once on New Years Day and another on a Sunday - there was nothing open. Decided to do some research for activities in Noumea and came across Noumea Private Tours run by Alfred. SO GLAD I did!!! Booked onto the Escapade Island Resort day trip - the ship tours do not go there so not crowded. There was a coach full of people from the ship - about 50 in total. We were a tad delayed due to a family not showing but Alfred showed great patience in waiting and let us all know of the delay. The family did not arrive so decision was made to head to the pier for the ferry ride to Escapade Island. About a 40 minute boat trip to the Island (much closer that Amadee or other islands). Alfred made sure he went and talked to all family groups to let us know where to go, when lunch would be available etc etc - excellent customer service. Went snorkelling with large turtles (Alfred pointed out best spots) - a first for us and we saw many, many turtles (had the opportunity to lightly touch on the back shell). Lunch was excellent - a really nice buffet lunch with seafood, salads, rice, meats and excellent desserts. Plenty of time for more swimming in the beach area or resort. Great time and Noumea Shore Private Tours is highly recommended. Next time in Noumea, we know who we will be contacting before we leave home.

Wow these tours guides are Amazing ....we have been on many cruises but have only found these guys on our last tour, as we were tired of the same boring tours through the cruise tours We wanted to do the Amadee Island tour but due to our ship getting in the afternoon we really didn’t know what we should do so decided on the city and contrasts tour we paid aus dollars cash to Alfred it was just so easy and so enjoyable We had Alfred pick us up and take us for a tour through the city and contrasts tour to Coconut Square with its Xmas trees, checked out China Town we drove along the French Riviera, passing luxury houses and marinas stopped at Lemon Bay and Anse vata beach and then continued on to the country Then we drove to the mountains to drink fresh water coming from the mountain this water is bottled and sold in Noumea also it was amazing, water was just coming out of specially made taps where residents of Noumea fill their bottles up, apparently the water is so healthy and beneficial lol there is a story to it and Alfred knows the island best so if you really want a tour guide then Alfred is it We also experienced the country side of the island Alfred talked about the different cultures in Noumea, the Namak people it was very interesting Then off to get our delicious milkshake where you see the cows being milked out the back of the shop I could not recommend Alfred and Genie enough it was so easy to book through, Genie responded to my enquiry promptly and was very helpful So cruisers cancel your cruise tours and book through GATEWAY as you will not be disappointed I will do a review for Port Vila separate to this one :)))))

Have a wonderful time with Genie doing the City Discovery Tour. Transport was excellent very new and air conditioned, seatbelts etc. Commentary by Genie was very informative and the sites and tour length perfect. Genie did a great job of avoiding all of the trains and buses at each site whilst the cruise ship was in which was great. The milkshake at the milk bar was amazing and the cake and drink at the boulangerie/patisserie was also greatly enjoyed. Do not hesitate to book this tour if you are heading to Noumea.

We went on a day trip to escaped island with Alfred and jae. They were both lovely and it was amazing . Alfred took us on a tour of noumea with a couple of stops to take pics and then to the market . We Then caught a ferry to escaped island ! Which really was very beautiful. The snorkeling was amazing lots of beautiful turtles. The resort pools were great for younger children to swim in . We had a Lovely lunch with more snorkeling and swimming and then ferry back to noumea. Well in the time limit we needed to arrive for our cruise ship return . Highly recommend this tour . Well worth it .

escapade island day trip

We had booked a tour which promised to show us around Noumea for 90 minutes and then deliver us via glass bottom boat to Duck Island. The tour started late as some participants were late. This meant that everybody received inastead of 90 minutes info and sights of Noumea only two short stops, one at the markets and one at the admittedly very tasty patisserie. Then off to the island, via boat. One of the guest was given the return ticket and we were left to our own devices. The snorkelling was really nice, however the prices for sun lounge rental was exorbitant! Everybody showed up for the return trip (luckily the guy with the return ticket was there) and we drove back. The bus which was meant to pick us up was too small for the whole group and four of us had to wait for 20 minutes for the next pick up. Overall, not the tour we were looking forward to.
