Beijing Sightseeing Bus

Sightseeing buses in Beijing can be a wise choice for touring the downtown. The three city sightseeing lines cost only CNY20 for a full ticket, taking people to see splendid imperial buildings. The Dang-dang Sightseeing Buses have two day lines and two night lines passing by the downtown highlights including Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City

There are two kinds of tourist buses in Beijing: city buses and tourist buses for one-day tour package operated by Beijing Hub of Tour Dispatch.

Tourist Bus 1 and 2 (Tandem Delivery)

Beijing has a tourist bus line: Tourist Line 1 and 2 (or Beijing Sightseeing Bus Line 1 and 2), stretching across 12 stops from Huizhong Li (慧忠里) to Qian Men (前门). The length of the line is 24.4 kilometers (15.2 miles). Passengers can enjoy the charms of some historic buildings, modern buildings and the Olympic venues in Beijing by taking the bus line. Passengers can pass a scenic spot every 5 or 6 minutes when taking both of the two bus lines. The conductor on the buses serves concurrently as tour guide, and they can introduce the scenic spots passing by both in English and in Chinese. The video shown on the buses also can help passengers to know several main scenic spots in Beijing.

The double-deck bus is equipped with air conditioners, with 58 soft seats (40 on upper deck and 18 on lower deck). There are 4 small tables in the end of the lower deck. The departure interval is about 17 minutes and the ticket fare is 3 yuan for one journey. The service time is a little different during tourist rush season (April 15–October 15) and tourist off season (October 16–April 15 in next year).

12 stops along the line: Huizhong Li (慧忠里), Beichen East Road (北辰东路), The South of Yangshan Bridge (仰山桥南), The East of the Olympic Village (奥运村东), National Indoor Stadium (国家体育馆), The North of Beichen West Bridge (北辰西桥北), Minzu Yuan Road (民族园路), Drum Tower (鼓楼), The East Gate of Jinshan Mountain (景山东门), South of Shatan Crossing (沙滩路口南), The West of Tian'anmen Square (天安门广场东) and Qian Men (前门)

Tourist Buses for One-Day Tour Package in Beijing

Beijing Hub of Tour Dispatch (北京旅游集散中心), located near Qian Men (前门, or Zhengyang Gate,正阳门), is a government-run company setting up in September, 2005. Beijing Hub of Tour Dispatch is founded to provide a convenient service and stop illegal one-day tour packages operators, who would bring travelers to shopping sites without noticing them. Tourist buses operated by Beijing Hub of Tour Dispatch can take travelers to lots of famous scenic spots in and nearby Beijing. These tourist buses can be classified into three categories: buses for world cultural sites packages, buses for urban sightseeing packages and buses for suburban sightseeing packages.

Beijing is a major transportation hub in China, with several options for getting there. The two most popular options are by air or by high-speed train . Here are some useful information for your reference:

1. By Flight : If you are traveling from another country or a distant region of China, flying to Beijing is usually the most convenient option. Beijing has two major airports, Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) and Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX). Both airports serve domestic and international destinations and have multiple daily flights from major cities in China and around the world. The flight time from major Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu to Beijing is usually around 2-3 hours.

2. By bullet train : If you are traveling from nearby provinces or cities, taking a high-speed train to Beijing can be a more cost-effective and convenient option, as there are many high-speed rail lines connecting Beijing to other parts of China . Beijing has several high-speed train stations, including Beijing Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, and Beijing South Railway Station. High-speed trains connect Beijing with many major cities in China, including Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Xi'an. The travel time from Shanghai to Beijing by high-speed train is around 4-6 hours, while the travel time from Guangzhou to Beijing is around 8-10 hours.

Both options have their advantages and disadvantages, depending on your preferences, budget, and travel plans. If you're looking for a faster travel time and don't mind the higher cost, flying may be the best option. However, if you prefer a more scenic and affordable option or want to experience China's high-speed train network, taking the train may be a better choice. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide which transportation method best suits your needs.

The best time to visit Beijing is from April to early November. In order to avoid being surrounded by thousands of domestic tourists, it is suggested to avoid visiting Beijing during the National Day Holiday (October 1st to 7th).

Many people prefer to visit Beijing in March and April when it is much cooler and not crowded. The average temperature at this time reaches approximately 15 degrees centigrade by day falling to a low of around 5 degrees centigrade at night.

During spring (April, May) and autumn/fall (September, October) the weather is most pleasant, and the views are most spectacular, on average. During summer, expecially from July to August (the rainiest part), it is hot and humid. During winter, Beijing is very cold and dry, with a little snow.

As one of the world's most iconic landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage site , the Great Wall of China stretches over 13,000 miles (21,000 kilometers) across northern China. It was built over several centuries by various Chinese dynasties to protect against invasions from the north. This vast and complex system of fortifications are mainly located in several Chinese provinces such as Hebei, Gansu, Shanxi, Henan, and Inner Mongolia.

But some of the most popular and well-known sections of the wall are located near Beijing , such as the Mutianyu Great Wall, Jingshanling Great Wall, Simatai Great Wall, Jiankou Great Wall , and Badaling Great Wall.

1. Badaling Great Wall (Most Famous One and The Most Tourists Visited): This section of the Great Wall is located about 47 miles (75 kilometers) north of Beijing and is the most popular and well-preserved section of the wall.

2. Mutianyu Great Wall (Most Popular with Foreign Tourists): This section of the Great Wall is located about 55 miles (88 kilometers) northeast of Beijing and is known for its scenic views and well-preserved fortifications.

3. Jingshanling Great Wall (Most Popular Among Photographers): This section of the Great Wall is located about 81 miles (130 kilometers) northeast of Beijing and is known for its rugged terrain and breathtaking views.

4. Simatai Great Wall (The Only Great Wall that can be Visited at Night): This section of the Great Wall is located about 80 miles (130 kilometers) northeast of Beijing and is known for its steep slopes and watchtowers.

You can also visit Juyongguan Great Wall (one of the eight scenic spots in Beijing), Jiankou Great Wall , and Huanghuacheng Water Great Wall (a holiday resort integrating the Great Wall, lakes and mountains).

Overall, a Beijing Great Wall Tour is a must-do for many visitors to China , offering a unique and unforgettable experience of China's rich history and natural beauty. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, a Great Wall tour is sure to be a highlight of your trip to Beijing .

Here are some useful tips for your Great Wall Hike :

1) Don't bring too many things. Climbing the Great Wall may make you a little tired, you only need to bring a bottle of mineral water.

2) Those who like to take pictures should not bring too many accessories, just a tripod is ok.

3) Wear flat shoes or sports casual shoes, and don't climb in high heels, otherwise you may hurt you feet, and it is not safe.

4) If you hike with you kids, it is important to ask them not to chase each other on the steep parts of a Great Wall section.

5) Do not climb alone, try to find an experienced guide

6) Make a hiking plan beforehand based on your own condition, including the length of the hike, the items you need to take, and ask someone to be your contact person for emergency.

How many days to spend in Beijing for a tour? The ideal length of time to explore in Beijing depends on your interests, schedule, and budget. However, to get a good feel for the city and see the major attractions, we would recommend to spend at least 2-4 full days in Beijing .

During this time, you can visit iconic landmarks such as the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, and Temple of Heaven, discover historic neighborhoods like the Hutongs, sample delicious food (such as Beijing Duck & dumplings) at local eateries and markets, and experience the vibrant culture and nightlife of the city. Of course, there are many other interesting sites to explore in and around Beijing, such as the Confucius Temple (Guozijian), Lama Temple (Yonghegong), and the Olympic Park (Birds' Nest & Water Cube), among others.

When you have 5 or more days , you can travel to another city like Xian by high speed train after touring Beijing .

Beijing is a city of stunning contrasts, where tourists can marvel at China's imperial past  in perfectly preserved palaces, buildings, courts, and parks, while also discovering its vibrant modern lifestyle and dynamic energy. The city's vastness and large distances between locations can be daunting, but it is well worth the effort to explore its many fascinating neighborhoods, such as the  historic hutongs  that were until recently the mainstay of Beijing's urban landscape, with their narrow lanes and single-story buildings that provide a unique and authentic glimpse into the city's old way of life.

Beijing is best known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and iconic landmarks that have come to symbolize China's centuries-old civilization. The following are the top sites to explore:

The Forbidden City The Great Wall of China Hutongs Tiananmen Square Summer Palace The Temple of Heaven

After crossing sections of the legendary Gobi Desert, the train travels through the vast green steppes of Mongolia. (B, L, D)

Early-risers are treated to central Mongolia’s spectacular scenery. In the morning, we arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. After a picnic lunch in a yurt camp, we watch a small Mongolian archery demonstration and a traditional wrestling match.

Overnight: On board the train (3 nights) (B, L, D)

Day 07: Ulan Ude (RUSSIA)

We take our leave of the Mongolian steppes today. We travel through the valley of Mongolia’s largest river, the Selenga, en route to Ulan Ude, where our train reaches the main route of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Here, we take an informative city tour. (B, L, D)

Day 08: Lake Baikal

Trans-Siberian Railway, coast of Lake Baikal. Train movement along the lake shore

Today is spent exploring the remarkable natural phenomenon of Lake Baikal, the largest reservoir of freshwater in the world. In the morning, our train travels directly alongside Lake Baikal, on the old route of the Trans-Siberian Railway. During two extended photo-stops, we have a chance to explore and record the scenic beauty of the lake and its setting. A short boat excursion from Port Baikal takes us out onto the lake. Take a swim in the lake, if you wish, and visit a picturesque Baikal village. Dinner is a Baikal-style picnic on the lakeshore with a view of the incredible natural surroundings (weather permitting). (B, L, D)

Day 09: Irkutsk

In the morning, we arrive in Irkutsk, the capital of Eastern Siberia in Tsarist times. Here, we move into our four-star hotel, which is centrally located. We can safely leave our large baggage on the private train. During our city tour, we see the Okhlopkov Drama Theatre, the new memorial to Tsar Alexander III, and the photogenic market hall. Day 10: Trans-Siberia

Trans-Siberian Railway, the coast of Lake Baikal.

A day of once-in-a-lifetime views of Eastern Siberia enjoyed from the comfort of our private train.   Savour living art in real time as we discover views of forest-covered mountains, rivers crashing along rocky banks and huge, imposing skies. Entertaining lectures on local customs and culture double as social get-togethers between newfound friendships, and a vodka tasting with typical Russian snacks and red caviar is an opportunity to experience Russian hospitality firsthand.

Overnight: On board the train (4 nights) (B, L, D)

Day 11: Novosibirsk

In Russia, the word bread is associated with hospitality, and salt with friendship. When we arrive in the charming city of Novosibirsk around noon, we’re welcomed warmly with bread and salt in this tradition. We then take a tour that includes the majestic river Ob, the market and the opera house. (B, L, D)

Day 12: Yekaterinburg

In the afternoon, our train stops at Yekaterinburg, the capital of the ancient Ural Mountain range. Its position on the Asian European border makes for a city of fascinating influences and combined cultures. We visit the painstakingly preserved city center and fairytale-like Church on Blood, built in 2003 to commemorate the site where the Romanovs, Russia’s last Tsar dynasty, were shot by revolutionists.  Here, we can also visit the Obelisk on the Border Between Europe and Asia. Beijing urges manila to withdraw vessel.

The China Coast Guard has confirmed that it implemented control measures against two Philippine coast guard vessels illegally intruding into waters near China's Xianbin Reef in the South China Sea on Monday.

The Philippine vessels "kept trying in a dangerous way to approach the China Coast Guard vessels, which were sailing normally there", and Manila rolled out media hype about what happened, the China Coast Guard said in a social media post.

Chinese law enforcement officers took controlling measures on Sunday to tackle intrusion into waters near Xianbin Reef by the Philippine vessel No 3002.

Manila has frequently sent coast guard vessels and government ships to intrude into the waters around Xianbin Reef.

Lin Jian, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, warned on Monday that Manila is "attempting to provide supplies to the Philippine coast guard vessel that has anchored for a long period of time in the lagoon of Xianbin Reef, seeking to achieve a long-term presence".

"This move by the Philippine side seriously infringes on China's sovereignty, gravely violates the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, and damages peace and stability in the South China Sea," Lin said at a regular news conference in Beijing.

"China urges the Philippines to immediately stop provocations and infringement of (China's) rights, and immediately withdraw the vessel concerned," he said.

The spokesman emphasized that Xianbin Reef is part of China's Nansha Islands.

Speaking of Sunday's intrusion by the Philippine government vessels that ignored China's resolute opposition and repeated warnings, Lin said, "The responsibility for causing the collision between the vessels of the two sides rests entirely with the Philippine side".

The China Coast Guard took necessary measures to tackle the Philippine vessels in accordance with domestic and international laws, and "the on-site operation was professional, coolheaded and disciplined", he said.

China will continue to take resolute and strong measures in accordance with the law to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, and uphold the sanctity of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, Lin added.

Tailor Make Your Beijing Tour

Vivian, a sales manager at Tour-Beijing, did a fantastic job of coordinating a wonderful trip for myself and my friend. She helped make our travel dreams become reality (bike riding alongside the Great Wall, dumpling making lesson in a private home, hiking the Great Wall, seeing the Terra Cotta Warriors, etc). Our guides were all fantastic. They always showed up on time (including at the airports), which put my friend and I at ease, seeing as we did not have phones with SIM card capabilities. They all spoke English proficiently, and we did not have any communication issues. I highly recommend Tour-Beijing! Annedebhoff Brooklyn, New York

Russia-China Partnership ‘Yielding Results,’ Putin Says

beijing tour bus

President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Russia's economic and trade links with China are "yielding results" as he welcomed Chinese Premier Li Qiang to the Kremlin.

Moscow has looked to Beijing as an economic lifeline since the Ukraine conflict began, with the two boosting trade to record highs as Russia faces heavy economic sanctions from the West.

"Our trade relations are developing successfully... The attention that the two governments on both sides are paying to trade and economic ties is yielding results," Putin said in a meeting with Li.

"Our states have worked out large-scale joint plans, projects in economic and humanitarian spheres, we expect for many years ahead," he added.

Li told Putin that "Chinese-Russian relations are at an unprecedentedly high level," according to the Kremlin's translation of his remarks, saying Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping had created a "strong impulse for further deepening of bilateral relations."

In a separate meeting with Li, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin hailed the countries' links as a stabilizing element.

"Our partnership and strategic cooperation is especially important in a situation where new contours of the global order are being formed," Mishustin said.

"And in these conditions, the Russia-China link is a powerful stabilizing factor, promoting economic growth in both countries and increasing quality of life for our citizens," the Russian premier said.

Citing a joint communique, Chinese state media Xinhua said the two sides agreed to optimize trade structure, grow bilateral trade volume and promote development of e-commerce.

It also said they would make efforts "to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the Arctic" as well as bilateral agricultural trade.

Moscow and Beijing both rail against "Western hegemony," particularly what they see as U.S. domination of global affairs, and Mishustin on Wednesday said the two countries must "focus efforts on protecting our shared interests."

Xinhua said the two denounced countries that "use the so-called 'rules-based order' to maintain their own privileges" and decried their obstruction of "the collective rise of emerging markets and developing countries."

Facing Western sanctions, Russia has pushed to use non-Western currencies as the basis for its trade.

"Today the share of the ruble and the yuan in mutual settlements is already over 95%," Mishustin said.

China presents itself as a neutral party in Russia's offensive on Ukraine and says it is not sending lethal assistance to either side, unlike the United States and other Western nations.

But it is a close political and economic ally of Russia, and NATO members have branded Beijing a "decisive enabler" of the conflict, which it has never condemned.

Beijing has also benefited from cheap Russian energy imports and access to vast natural resources, including steady gas shipments through the Power of Siberia pipeline.

Li's visit comes as India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Poland, set to make his first visit to Ukraine at the end of the week. India, China's regional rival, is also close with Russia, but Modi has repeatedly called for an end to the conflict.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help .

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $ 2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
