Gothenburg’s Evergrey Announce New Album
Theories of emptiness, out june 7, 2024 via napalm records, evergrey on “falling from the sun”:.
“‘Falling From the Sun’ is an explosive song that represents everything we are about, not only for this album, but also brings the energy that you would expect from a great new EVERGREY song. It has the riff, it has the pounding drums, the bombast, and an unforgettable hook that we are very proud to have written. Now we just want you to be devoured by the splendor of the full album as soon as possible, but let’s start with ‘Falling From the Sun’; we believe it will last you a lifetime and easily hold you over until it is time for the next single and video. We spent what feels like a Hollywood budget on the pyrotechnics used in this video as we felt that represented everything we felt the most – having those fireworks rain down on us made us feel like real rockstars for a while and the song itself feels like a rockstar on its own! We can’t wait to see what you think and feel when you see this!”
After more than 30 years of shaping progressive metal history, EVERGREY rises again, announcing the release of their fourteenth studio album, Theories of Emptiness, set for release on June 7, 2024 via Napalm Records. This new chapter kicks off with the mesmerizing new single “Falling From the Sun”, featuring heavy riffs combined with catchy choruses and hard-hitting melancholic lyrics, and acting as as a sequel to “Ominous” – cut from their worldwide chart-topping latest album, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament).
Guided by unmistakable founder, singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund, EVERGREY have maintained a remarkable consistency, hitting the biggest festivals worldwide, such as Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock, Summer Breeze and Graspop, and throughout thirteen studio albums. Each of these – blending dark, emotive themes with complex progressive elements and melodic heavy metal – has earned them a reputation as pioneers of the genre and secured their timeless mark on metal.
Theories of Emptiness was produced by Tom S. Englund and Jonas Ekdahl, and was mixed by Adam “Nolly” Getgood (ex-Periphery), who worked closely with the band from the start – bringing out the vividness of the album’s overall sonic profile. Rounding out the album’s production, mastering was helmed by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (Soilwork, The Night Flight Orchestra, Onslaught, The Gems, Eleine and many more).
Theories of Emptiness follows its chart-topping and critically acclaimed predecessor, 2022’s A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), which entered charts worldwide at #3 in Sweden (Metal), ranked #5 on the Top New Artist Albums charts in the United States, entered #7 in Finland and #12 in Germany.
Theories of Emptiness tracklisting:
1. Falling From the Sun 2. Misfortune 3. To Become Someone Else 4. Say 5. Ghost of My Hero 6. We Are the North 7. One Heart 8. The Night Within 9. Cold Dreams 10. Our Way Through Silence 11. A Theory of Emptiness

A new era of EVERGREY:
A heartless portrait (the orphean testament) is dark melodic metal mastery.
Gothenburg’s finest export of darkness, EVERGREY, enters an astonishing new chapter in the band’s history with their thirteenth studio album and Napalm Records debut, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), to be released on May 20, 2022. This overwhelming journey through progressive heaviness and searing emotionality is repeatedly accented by sonic melancholy and gripping lyrics – leaving the listener speechless and re-cementing the Swedish five-piece at the top of the scene without a shadow of a doubt!
Celebrating over 25 years of metal mastery, EVERGREY, led by founder, singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund, are known for wandering the realms of progressive and heavy melodic metal and painting sonic renderings with their twelve studio records released as of today. Now, the follow-up to the unit’s highly successful 2021 full-length, Escape of the Phoenix (which landed at numerous chart positions worldwide), reveals a 10 track mélange of which every note, every riff and every word seeps pure poetry – creating a ceaseless intensity that mesmerizes from the very first second. A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) impresses with flawless, meticulous production that deftly depicts both heartfelt honesty and scorching metallic intensity, while its instrumental force of furious, technically driven riffs, skyrocketing solos and dramatic synths merges with the expert, brooding vocal performance of Englund – one of the most distinctive vocalists in metal. He skillfully balances harsh and heavy tones with an inarguably soulful approach, all topped by melancholic, thought-provoking lyricism that digs deeper with every spin, leaving a long-lasting impact.
Pounding opener “Save Us” reflects everything the album stands for, as it kicks in immediately with stunning guitar work and unveils a chorus sure to top the annals of EVERGREY history! To spice things up even more, EVERGREY invited their fans to join them on this special track and recorded hundreds of voices that ended up on the final result. Songs like “Midwinter Calls”, which also contains fan participation with atmospheric audience recordings from the band’s latest tour through Sweden, and “The Great Unwashed”draw the listener in with grooving, glistering instrumentation, flowing between boisterous dynamics and a next level vocal performance, while emotive “Wildfires” turns the volume down as a goosebump-worthy ballad that hurts and heals all at once. “Call Out The Dark” begins atmospherically with accented keys, suddenly evolving into an intense opus of symphonic and power metal attributes in the blink of an eye, whereas the record’s longest track, “The Orphean Testament”, impresses by revealing its heaviest facet. A sensitive introduction lures the listener into “Heartless”, and offers one of the album’s most engaging verses, followed by a hauntingly beautiful chorus and variety in pace to create a magnificent listening experience.
A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) is a striking testament to the fact that while the Swedish five-piece doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone at this phase, they still impressively showcase that, after over 25 years of existence, their creativity sees no bounds – dropping yet another sensation within their impressive catalog!

An excellent show @kyttaro club in Athens, some hits of the band, like masterplan, or blinded were missing... But the whole 90 minutes show, was powerful with a lot of energy from the band, along with a very energetic audience... The second time I watching evergrey after many years, from the last double show, an acoustic and an electric, during the Greek Hard rock magazine Era

Me and my son have visited the Evergrey concert at the Hellraiser in Leipzig, which is a smaller club for around 100-150 people. It has been a fantastic evening, since we have been very close to all the bands that performed at this night. The guys from Evergrey are excellent musicians and the music itself is absolutely stunning - and all songs have worked very well for live performances. They truly rocked the house and we thought the roof will blow away, 'cause the crowd at Leipzig was also great. Tom is such a charismatic and likeable person, he interacted with the audience in emotional and humorous ways and the chemics between the members of the band was absolutely inspiring. Thank you for this amazing show! It started with some new songs from the current album and wandered through all the important phases of their producing. After the first four songs, the atmosphere was brought to a boil and we have been on fire for the whole appearance.
The complete setlist was:
A Silent Arc
Passing Through
Leave It Behind Us
Black Undertow
My Allied Ocean
The Grand Collapse
Recreation Day
A Touch Of Blessing
King Of Errors
Everyone who has a weakness for true and honest progressive metal should definitely see them, they are a happening - powerful, exciting and grounded.
Go see them! We will do again as well.
Went to Birmingham to see Evergrey as they we're only doing the two dates in the UK as supoprt for Kamelot. Wish they'd been headliners.
Ah well, anyway, Evergrey were excellent as usual. From the opening chords to the final notes of King of Errors they were fantastic. The crowd got behind them too and it made for a really great time.
Let's hope they headline next time they tour, and good luck with the rest of the European tour

Evergrey – European Tour 2022 (Biebob, Vosselaar) – 07/10/2022
Finally, after the cancellation of the original tour to support their 2021 released album ‘ Excape of the Phoenix’ due to the all known reasons, Evergrey was finally able to give once more the best of themselves. Meanwhile, they released this year the finest ‘ A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament)’ so in fact this tour was supporting two albums, we were in for a treat. For this, they came back to the Biebob, the first time since 2009, time flies. Evergrey is an excellent band although not recognized enough by the big audience, but as I arrived at the Biebob the club was packed, an omen to a hot and satisfying evening.
Unfortunately with the heavy traffic on the road I missed the first band. Better luck next time and apologies to the Swiss Italian combination of Virtual Symmetry for missing out on you!
Fractal Universe
It was the first time that I saw Fractal Universe live. Their music is not easy to get a grip on although their compositions are of a very high level. From booty shaking grooves to blast beasts with some grunts to the more jazz fusion inspired stuff. The vocal style of singer Vince Wilquin on these parts reminded me a lot of Daniel from Pain Of Salvation . A surprising element was that the singer switched his guitar to play some saxophone during the songs. These french dudes know how to play and how to make music, Fractal Universe is a band that we should keep an eye on.
And then it was time for the Swedish proggers of Evergrey . The audience was ready for it , you could feel the tension rising. Tom. S. Englund hasn’t lost a dime of his attitude and magical music crafting, although he describes himself as an old bastard dying on stage. Well, making music for over 30 years is quite an achievement. Evergrey isn’t the typical progressive band. They bring progressive, groove and melodeath elements to a very unique combination that just no other band is capable of. From the beginning tunes of ‘ Save Us ‘, the crowd and the band were in for a memorable night. The crowd couldn’t stop singing along to each song throughout the set, which is also typical Evergrey. Their verses are so nice and catchy, as can be heard in songs like ‘ Eternal Octurnal’ and ‘ Where August Mourns’ amongst others.
Of course, with 13 albums in their backlog it was not easy to choose some ‘golden oldies’. With ‘ A Touch Of Blessing ‘ and ‘ Recreation Day ‘ they touched a bit their of their “best of”. Evergrey aren’t some kind of rockstars as you could tell that Tom is down to earth enough to joke around about his age and all. The gimmick with the bassist playing the wah of Tom because he’s always asking to the play the guitar was a nice welcome interchange. The evening was hot, the band was satisfied, the crowd was satisfied, could we ask for more? Maybe they should play bigger venues… though on the other hand these small venues is kind of where they belong and thrive. Thank you Evergrey , you made a lot of people happy.

EVERGREY Announce New Album, “A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament)”
Gothenburg’s Finest Export of Darkness EVERGREY Announce New Album, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) , out May 20, 2022 via Napalm Records Pre-Order Starts NOW ! Soaring First Single “Save Us” + Official Music Video Out Now Watch HERE !
A new era of EVERGREY: A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) is dark melodic metal mastery!
Gothenburg’s finest export of darkness, EVERGREY , enters an bewildering new chapter in the band’s history with their thirteenth studio album and Napalm Records debut, A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) , to be released on May 20, 2022 via Napalm Records. This overwhelming journey through progressive heaviness and searing emotionality reaches new heights and is preceded by the arrival of the soaring first single “Save Us” , in which heavy prog and melancholic beauty climax in a soulful chorus that proves EVERGREY to be top songwriters in their genre!
The pounding album opener reflects everything the new full-length stands for, as it kicks in immediately with stunning guitar work and unveils a chorus sure to top the annals of EVERGREY history. Listen carefully and you will hear the voices of hundreds of fans who were invited by EVERGREY to send recordings of their voices to later provide group vocals for the track – making their everlasting mark on EVERGREY history.
For the astonishing music video, the five-piece teamed up with longtime companion Patric Ullaeus to create a bewitching visual experience that exemplifies EVERGREY .
Tom S. Englund on “Save Us” : “’Save Us’ is about us. It’s about you and I. It’s about how I see our minds becoming hostages in a world where painting optimal portraits of ourselves is more important than being who we really are. It’s about my observation of watching people around me who are feeling that they’re not good enough for the world, or for themselves. I’m afraid we’re lost, and I think we need to help each other to find our way back to what is important, to rediscover a true sense of self. As we, as artists, also contribute to content and social media as a livelihood, it’s about the paradox of being caught in a world which is hard to free yourself from. I can only wish that our music brings some balance to that equation.”
Celebrating over 25 years of metal mastery, EVERGREY , led by founder, singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund, are known for wandering the realms of progressive and heavy melodic metal and painting sonic renderings with their twelve studio records released as of today. A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament) , the follow-up to the unit’s highly successful 2021 full-length, Escape of the Phoenix (which landed at numerous chart positions worldwide), reveals a 10 track mélange of which every note, every riff and every word seeps pure poetry – creating a ceaseless intensity that mesmerizes from the very first second.
The new album was recorded at Top Floor Studios Gothenburg, engineered by Jakob Herrman and produced by Tom S. Englund and Jonas Ekdahl, with mixing and mastering by Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios ( Volbeat , Destruction , Epica and many more), whereas the hauntingly beautiful album artwork was conjured by Giannis Nakos at Remedy Art Design. Nakos is known for creating artworks for acts like Oceans Of Slumber , Amaranthe , The Agonist and The Crown as well as merchandise for Morbid Angel , Suffocation or Cryptopsy – just to name a few.
EVERGREY on the new album: “Here it is! A new album! Yet again! This is what we love about music, it never ends! Our mission is to write music so here you are! 10 new songs! 10 new EVERGREY songs that we hope you will have by your side as your life continues to shift and grow. 10 songs that we wish will be part of the soundtrack when you’re creating new memories and new possibilities in your life. 10 songs that we feel privileged to have you listen to. 10 songs that have risen through the ashes of two years where our creativity has had more time than ever to flourish. 10 songs we really hope you will enjoy as much as we did writing them. As usual we have given it our best and we can’t wait to hear what you have to say! A new year, a new album, a new record label = new possibilities. All this can only be positive, right? Enjoy! Tom, Jonas, Rikard, Johan & Henrik”

The “Recharging Europe” tour, featuring Swedish progressive metal juggernauts EVERGREY , was scheduled to begin in just a few weeks. But, due to the continuing uncertainty regarding live events, these shows – like so many others – will be postponed to 2022. Tickets that have already been purchased will remain valid. In addition to the new dates, the tour itself – being re-dubbed “European Tour 2022” – will also see some minor changes, with progressive death metallers Fractal Universe from Nancy, France and Swiss/Italian unit Virtual Symmetry (who previously toured with EVERGREY in 2015) joining the line-up. These two bands will replace this year’s scheduled guests Witherfall and Dust In Mind . All in all, the most important thing is – where first-class progressive metal is promised, first-class progressive metal is what you’ll get! This is what Gothenburg’s finest export EVERGREY has embodied since 1993. Their gloomy mood and their thoughtful art of writing along with brilliant musical versatility are the trademarks of the matchless force led by singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund. With Escape Of The Phoenix , EVERGREY unveiled their twelfth studio album back in February 2021, that will also be part of the shows in autumn 2022. “Given the nature of the current world situation it is simply not feasible to go on tour in Europe and UK ,” the band says with regrets. “It involves too much insecurity and risk, and too much money for too many people. With that said, we are confident enough to say that by this time next year we will be ready and firing on all cylinders. Aaaaaand we will also have released another album! So TWO albums in ONE tour! Not too shabby huh?!”

Fractal Universe announce European tour with Evergrey
- December 16th, 2021 –
With Virtual Symmetry, Beginning August 2022
FRACTAL UNIVERSE has announced plans for 2022, including a 30+ date European tour supporting metal icons EVERGREY , with additional support from VIRTUAL SYMMETRY. The tour kicks off September 16th in Eindhoven, Germany and wraps up in the bands home country on October 23rd in Paris, France.
“ 2021 has been a whirlwind of emotions and musical creativity, ” admits vocalist Vince Wilquin. “ For the first time, we managed to enter the US Billboard charts with our third album The Impassable Horizon. The response to the album has been very positive and overwhelming, and we want to thank everyone who purchased and streamed our music. Bring on 2022, the best is yet to come! “
Since the release of the album, FRACTAL UNIVERSE was able to pull off a few shows in the pandemic-laced year of 2021, as Wilquin adds, “ We look forward to taking our new album to as many stages as possible in 2022. We are thrilled to be the main support on the European Tour with Swedish powerhouse EVERGREY for 36 dates across Europe in September and October 2022. There are still festival performances and other surprises to be announced, so stay tuned! “
The Impassable Horizon , which reached #63 on the Current Hard Music charts and #127 Top New Artist, showed the French quartet deliver three videos, “ A Clockwork Expectation ,” the blistering “ Symmetrical Masquerade, ” and the mesmerizing “ Interfering Spherical Scenes .”

EVERGREY Postpone European Tour Until 2022

The Recharging Europe tour, featuring Swedish progressive metal juggernauts Evergrey, was scheduled to begin in just a few weeks. But, due to the continuing uncertainty regarding live events, these shows - like so many others - will be postponed to 2022.
Tickets that have already been purchased will remain valid. In addition to the new dates, the tour itself - being re-dubbed European Tour 2022 - will also see some minor changes, with progressive death metallers Fractal Universe from Nancy, France and Swiss/Italian unit Virtual Symmetry (who previously toured with Evergrey in 2015) joining the lineup. These two bands will replace this year’s scheduled guests Witherfall and Dust In Mind.
All in all, the most important thing is - where first-class progressive metal is promised, first-class progressive metal is what you'll get! This is what Evergrey has embodied since 1993. Their gloomy mood and their thoughtful art of writing along with brilliant musical versatility are the trademarks of the matchless force led by singer and guitarist Tom S. Englund. With Escape Of The Phoenix, Evergrey unveiled their twelfth studio album back in February 2021, that will also be part of the shows in autumn 2022. “Given the nature of the current world situation it is simply not feasible to go on tour in Europe and UK,” the band says with regrets. “It involves too much insecurity and risk, and too much money for too many people. With that said, we are confident enough to say that by this time next year we will be ready and firing on all cylinders. Aaaaaand we will also have released another album! So TWO albums in ONE tour!
