Best Greek Cooking Class in Mykonos

Teta will show you how to make delicious traditional Greek food in her Mykonos Cooking Class .

The 11 Best Tours & Things To Do in Mykonos 1. Mykonos Cooking Class (Traditional Greek Food) This is an absolutely wonderful Greek cooking class: fun, informative, great food. And the wine flows freely. It lasts a little less than 6 hours and starts at 10am or 4pm with free transfer from your hotel or the cruise port. Highly recommended. If you only do one organized activity in Mykonos, make it this one. (It’s rare for kids to do the class but when they do they have a blast.) 2. Sunset Sailing Cruise Awesome Mykonos boat tour with swimming, food, and unlimited drinks. Lots of swimming and snorkeling. Good fun. 3. Original Morning Delos Guided Tour After a 45-minute boat ride to Delos , explore the ancient island with a fully accredited guide. Delos (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is one of the best-preserved and most important historical sites in Greece and the best day trip from Mykonos. If you’re interested in visiting Delos, we recommend taking a guided tour; there are loads of ruins, but few signs, so it can be difficult to know what you’re looking at without a guide. 4. Delos & Rhenia Islands Boat Trip Tour the ancient island of Delos (entrance fee not included) then swim, snorkel, and sunbathe from the yacht and along the coast of the uninhabited island of Rhenia. BBQ meal and unlimited drinks included. 5. Catamaran Cruise with 3-Course Meal A super fun way to spend a day out on the water. Lots to eat and drink (and the food is surprisingly good quality). Lie on the deck, swim, snorkel, or sight-see as you make your way around the Mykonos coastline or to the island of Rhenia (depending on win, weather, and guest preference). This one is a little expensive, but worth it for the small group size and luxury service. Note : Both of the previous boat tours get fully booked from late June to early September. If that’s the case, the Full-Day Mykonos Catamaran Cruise is an excellent alternative – it’s a little more expensive but the food is also better. 6. Highlights of Mykonos: Half-Day Tour Starts with a walking tour of Mykonos Town and then visits the best sights, small villages (like Ano Mera above), and small hidden churches all over the island. 7. Mykonos Hiking Adventure This photo is from a helicopter tour I took of Mykonos (awesome but expensive) and I thought the aerial view gave a good overview of the Mykonos landscape. Beautiful beaches backed by rolling countryside with a mix of green farmland and trail-crossed steppes. Which all makes for a great hike. The hike ends with a swim at a beach. Ippos horseback riding is another great way to see the Mykonos countryside. 8. Yummy Pedals Bike Tour Discover the rugged landscape of Mykonos’ interior on a standard bike or e-bike. Offering seven different tour routes to suit all experience levels and varying interests, whether leisure, romance, adventure, or challening. Casual cyclists can enjoy rural back roads, stopping at cultural sites, learning about traditional life, and finishing at the beach for a picnic and underwater photo shoot. More experienced cyclists can opt for a scenic bike ride up the mountain peaks as high as the wind turbines for panoramic views over the island’s north coast. Private, bespoke tours can be arranged on request. 9. Wine and Farm Tour Daily wine tours in English (or French, on request) are on offer at this historic vineyard dating to the 19th-century, when it supplied wine for a local monastery. Guests of this family-owned homestead will learn about biodynamic cultivation and local winemaking customs, while sampling all four types of wines produced onsite. Visit during the fall harvest, and take the opportunity to stomp grapes in the traditional way. Food pairings can be added. This kid-friendly tour also includes visiting and interacting with the farm animals, including donkeys, sheep, and goats. Tours of the farm and vineyard are free; tastings and food pairings are additional. 10. Mosaic Workshop Mosaic artist Irene Syrianou grew up on sacred Delos Island and worked there for ten years, familiarizing herself with the ancient mosaics of the archaeological site while honing her own techniques. In her private and group workshops, she instructs students in replicating the mosaics of antiquity or creating their own modern works. Workshops take place in Manto Garden or in her studio space and can range from an hour or two up to a multi-day seminar. All ages and experience levels welcome. 11. Mykonos Farmers Cheese and Cooking Class Cheesemaking, cheese tasting, and cooking classes are available at this locally-owned dairy in Agios Lazaros, a short drive from Mykonos Town. The dairy makes a variety of regional cheeses only found in Mykonos and the Cyclades, along with more familiar flavors and rich Greek yogurt. Cooking and cheesemaking classes include a tour of the facilities and sampling the wares. Hands-on workshops run for about two hours and are open to beginning and advanced cooks, ages 14 and older.

The Best Free Thing To Do in Mykonos Mykonos Beach Walk Walk from Platis Gialos Beach to Paradise Beach , making stops at beach bars and restaurants along the way. You’ll pass Agia Anna and Paraga beaches and several other small swimming coves. Super fun and free! (Besides what you spend on food and drinks, of course.) If you’re staying in Mykonos Town, take the bus to Platis Gialos and then start walking along the beach towards the east (if you’re facing the water, walk to your left). There are several great places to eat along the walk. If you hike straight to Paradise Beach it will take about an hour (without stops). Then bus back from Paradise to Mykonos Town or take the water taxi back to Platis Gialos or Ornos (my personal favorite).

Hi Dave! Loving this blog! I have a question about the Mykonos beach walk – we’re very interested in stopping along the way as you suggest but wondering what that’s like summer of 2021 specifically when everywhere is reservations only. Is that true of even just grabbing a drink along the walk? And if so and you had to choose only one to reserve and stay at – which one or which area would it be? We’re not getting much response when messaging the beach clubs directly. Thanks!

' src=

Reservations are strongly recommended at least during July/August and a pretty good idea in June/early September. It’s incredibly busy this season pretty much everywhere in the Cyclades, but even in June and early September, it can be hard to get a sunbed/umbrella set at the better beach clubs. But if you’re only going to drink and don’t need a lounge set, then it’s all good. You can get a drink pretty much anywhere no matter how busy, and just lay your towel out on the sand. Especially this year, you can get cocktails to go from almost all bars and restaurants on the island.

' src=

Hello Dave, since you have been to both Mykonos and Santorini where would you recommend doing a boat tour more? I don’t want to do a boat tour in both cities. I will be spending 5 days in each and am worried there will be less to do in Santorini–is it better to do a boat tour there? Mykonos seems like there will be a lot more partying/beaches to enjoy. Just wanted your opinion. Thanks!

A Santorini boat tour will be far more unique and awe-inspiring with the views of the caldera and cliffs. In Mykonos it will be more fun and relaxing. But not sure I agree with your premise: Santorini has far more to do than Mykonos – wine tours and wineries, hikes, historical sites, museums, volcano visits, jet ski tours. Mykonos has the beach and nightlife (which are great) and not much else.

' src=

The “Small Yacht Cruise to Delos & Rhenia Islands” appears to not be taking reservations due to availability (I wasn’t even able to put in my dates, seems to be a blanket statement on their site.) Other than the two you also suggest on this page, is there another similiar tour to this one that you’d recommend? I’m going with my mother (in her 60s) and my 8yo daughter – in case that makes a difference in what you recommend.

You’re probably just a little too early. Most tours should be online and ready to book by late January or early February.

' src=

Do you know of a good scuba diving course/tour in Mykonos for beginners/intermediate? We would like to visit the best scuba dive spots around Mykonos for a reasonable price.

Mykonos PADI Scuba Diving does a two-hour scuba course in Mykonos .

' src=

Are the paths etc okay for wheelchairs?

If you mean the paths along the coast between the beaches, then no, I wouldn’t say they’re wheelchair-accessible. If you mean the lanes and alleys of Mykonos Town, then yes, I think they should be “ok” for travelers in wheelchairs (though not ideal by any means).

' src=

Hello. If my daughter and I do the Mykonos cooking class, do you have any ideas for my adult son and husband? I’m also wondering if they would be able to pay and join us for lunch? Thank you for your expert advice!

They could do the tour to Delos. Or, if not a tour, walk from Psarou to Paradise Beach along the coast.

Thanks for your website, such great info. We were planning on having a 6-day Honeymoon, taking in 3 days in Santorini & 3 in Mykonos (Town). We were hoping to go in September but due to personal circumstances that are no longer possible, so we would be looking at something like the 10th to 16th of October. I am concerned though that this will be too late in the season, & we’ll struggle for restaurants & bars, especially in Mykonos.

Can you advise if we will struggle for eating & drinking at this time? We obviously don’t expect it to be full-on party mode but would like some sort of vibe for going out & having a couple of drinks at night (or even places that are at least open).

Santorini will be busy and active, with everything open – no problem there. Mykonos will be slower for sure. A few places will have started to close for the winter but most will be open. Nightlife will be subdued but there’ll definitely be places open to go for a drink and encounter some other travelers. There will definitely be plenty of open restaurants – so I would not worry on that front.

' src=

What is the best way to get to Santorini from Mykonos? Just want a day of exploring? There were no available flights during the time we are there to fly there and back.

Ferry is the best way to get to Santorini from Mykonos. There are many ferries every day in summer. But it’s very hard, if not impossible, to do it as a day trip. You’ll need to stay overnight.

' src=

Hi Dave, We have rented a villa near Mykonos town. Most transportation mentioned is a bus or boat, is it reasonable to expect taxi service? Thank You!

Yes, there are taxis but not a lot. During busy times it can be very hard to secure a taxi.

' src=

Hi Dave, What are your thoughts on boat tours around Mykonos being really rocky due to the winds? I’ve read on other sites that the waters can be very rough and Tours will often go out despite rough seas. Only have 3.5 days in Mykonos so I’m nervous to gamble with a boat tour that could ruin a day. Love your cooking class recommendation, just having a hard time getting my fiancé onboard with that. Thanks in advance!

Yes, the waters can get rough. Not much you can do about that except hope for the best. The cooking class is great fun.

' src=

Tipping, how does this work for a tour? If we booked the 6 hours BBQ catamaran tour per couple it would come to $491, should we tip 20% ~$100?

Thanks! Kelly

Yeah, if that’s in your budget then that’s great. Tourism workers in Greece make very little so it would be appreciated.

' src=

Hi Dave – Is it warm enough to swim at the end of April / beginning of May?

Water will be cool but if the weather’s nice, yes, people will be hopping in for brief plunges in the sea. By mid/late May it’s usually much warmer for swimming.

' src=

Cooking Class in Mykonos, do you know if they are able to accommodate vegetarians? Amit

Yes, definitely. Many of the best Greek dishes are vegetarian. I’d drop them a note (in reply to the confirmation email that you’ll get) a few days before your date telling them you’re vegetarian but won’t make much difference in either case.

' src=

Thanks Dave! Why is it that you prefer renting a car over an ATV?

It’s safer. It’s more comfortable. You can talk to each other instead of yelling over the wind. But just my preference, your experience may differ.

My husband and I will be in Mykonos and Santorini at the end of August. We definitely want to get some ATV’s and do some exploring on our own. Do you have any suggestions for places we should rent from on both islands? Is it necessary to book these in advance of our trip?

No need to book ATVs in advance. Where to get them depends on the town you’re staying in but there should be a service/company nearby that can arrange something. BTW, I much prefer renting a car but that’s up to you.

' src=

My family together with my sister’s have booked a 10 day trip to Mykonos mid August. I’m slightly annoyed at my sloppy planning and regret not booking a few days first in santorini. There do not appear to be any day trips there from Mykonos unless the ferry companies have different schedules during the summer months? Do you have any fun suggestions during our stay? Our kids ages range from 22-13. Helen Pope

The cooking course (see above) and boat tours to Delos or Rhenia islands are at the top of the list. I would consider taking an overnight trip to Santorini. Keep your hotel in Mykonos and just take a small backpack or two. Stay at a cheap hotel in Fira and you’ll get 30 hours to explore Santorini. You are wasting the one night hotel in Mykonos but a lot cheaper than the plane tickets to get back to Santorini on a different trip.

' src=

Can you recommend the best transportation to get from Athens airport to Athens Diamond homtel at 9:00pm and returning to the airport to catch a flight at 7:00 am.

The easiest is a taxi. The cheapest is the metro (you’ll want the Monastiraki station which is about a 5 to 8 minute walk from your hotel). But for your morning flight you’ll need to take a taxi (or the airport bus from Syntagma Square) as the metro won’t be running in time to make your flight.

' src=

Your restaurant recommendations for Santorini were very helpful. I went to several of your recommended restaurants and they were great. I am going to Mykonos in 2 days. Any restaurant recommendations for Mykonos? Thank you!! Karl Smith

I have a list of the best Mykonos restaurants on my Mykonos hotel page .

' src=

We would be spending about 3.5 days in Mykonos late May. We are considering the Jeep tour and South Coast cruise. Is it worth it to go for 2 full day tours or choose one? Which and what would you recommend?

Thank you! Perrine

They are very different (one on a boat, one in a jeep) and have little or no overlap. Doing both is reasonable. If I could only do one, it would the south coast boat cruise.

' src=

Hi Dave~ your site is a wealth of information! My husband and I are flying into Athens 6/25-7/2. Per your suggestion we will spend the first few nights at the Hotel Grande Bretagne. Need to ferry over to Mykonos for a work meeting for a few days. After researching, I was thinking of ferrying over from Piraeus and back into Rafina since it is closer to the airport. I’m a little nervous that the earliest ferry back on 7/2 is at 11:40. We have a 5:30 flight the same day. Is that cutting it close? Weather/strikes etc.. I would hate to miss our departure home. We could come back the eve of 7/1 and spend one additional night in Athens (shortening MYK by a little bit) to give us wiggle room. If so, should we stay somewhere closer to the airport to get a different vibe? Or would you go back into Athens and head to the airport the next day. Or do you think we are OK on that 11:40- 14:15 ferry? Would love to know how you wold handle getting back to mainland, your input. Shaun Hammons

That connection time would be too tight for my tastes. Could you make? Yes, certainly. But it doesn’t take much for a SeaJet ferry to be late by 90 minutes and that’s all it would take for you to miss your flight. I would ferry to Piraeus the night before and stay somewhere in the Plaka for a final night (lots of great places to eat in the area). There is nothing out by the airport so definitely do not stay there as you’ll almost have an evening and a good half-day to see and do stuff in Athens. (Or you can fly from Mykonos to Athens and have an extra night in Mykonos – there are afternoon flights that get to Athens at 12:25pm or 3:10pm.)

What is the best tour of Mykonos Town? Is it worth taking a tour or can we explore Mykonos Town on our own?

It’s easy to walk around Mykonos Town on your own and see the sights – but a tour always offer a different level of understanding and history. People almost never regret taking a tour and I highly recommended them. The Mykonos Town and Island Tour goes through Mykonos Town and Ano Mera (the second largest village on Mykonos) as well as a few other stops. It’s well worth the 4 hours.

' src=

Hey Dave, I am going to be visiting in mid may. We have kept 4 days in Mykonos. Any suggestions on a day trip to islands nearby?

Delos (greek history) and Rhenia (beaches and swimming) are the two best day trips from Mykonos. The bigger islands (Naxos, Paros, Santorini) are difficult to make work for a day trip – especially in May when ferries are not as frequent as summer.

' src=

Hi Dave, Do you recommend booking at boat tour in Mykonos ahead of time? We will be in Mykonos for four days during the middle of May. Thank you! Alex

If you’re on the fence then wait and see if that’s how you want to spend your time once you’re on the island. If you’re certain there’s something you want to do (e.g. Delos) then book as early as possible.

' src=

Hi Dave, I have found your website so helpful for planning our upcoming trip. It seems that the link for the “Full day small yacht cruise to Rhenia Island” on the Mykonos day tours page is not working. Could you direct me to that tour?

Thanks so much! Megan Reese

I fixed the link. Thanks!

' src=

Your sharing have indeed been so helpful towards my planning to Greece. I will be travelling at the end of October. Due to my limited travelling time, I would like to catch the best of all in Greece.

Between Mykonos, Crete, & Zakynthos, which is best? Which will be a better choice? I intend to stay 2 nights in either one of the above.

Mykonos and Crete are the best choices. Mykonos is small and thus the best choice for a quick 2 night trip. But, it will be very quiet by the end of October. Not quite “completely dead” but not lively by any stretch. Chania on Crete will still have plenty going on and has a great array of restaurants that should all still be open. It doesn’t quite give the idyllic greek-island feel as it’s a medium-sized town on a large island – but it’s great nonetheless.

Do you need to do a tour to get to the best Mykonos Beaches (quiet and secluded beaches) or just rent a car and do a self-tour?

To get to the quiet and remote ones, yes, a tour is good – and a boat tour better. But for the most popular ones close to Mykonos Town a rental car is fine for getting around. In fact, bus is the best as you can take it to Psarou or Platys Gialos then walk to Paranga and Paradise beaches along a coastal path that is both beautiful and dotted with little swimming spots. The tours are fun though.

Excellent tours that allow travelers to enrich their understanding of the Mykonian folklore heritage are also part of our recommendations. One of our clients' top favorites is the Simply Mykonos Tour . It combines the picturesque landmarks of Chora, its walkthrough, a visit to the traditional settlement of Ano Mera , and the intricate monasteries it hosts. For a final and relaxing stop, Kalafatis bay welcomes visitors and provides enchanting Aegean views for them to unwind. Last but not least, guests who yearn for authentic, hands-on learning of Greek cuisine should consider the Mykonos Cooking Class, which will equip them with delicious recipes to recreate back home. Experience the hospitality and warmth of a local Mykonian family, acquire tips and tricks for mouth-watering dishes and enjoy a traditional Greek meal with the hostess and fellow group members.

DISCOVERING MORE EXCITING TOURS

With dozens of highly recommended excursions to enhance every Mykonian itinerary, the only required action is finding the ones you would love to attend and booking a place a few weeks to a couple of months in advance to secure participation hassle-free.

One Day in Mykonos From Cruise Ship: The Perfect Itinerary

Are you looking for a one-day Mykonos cruise ship itinerary for your next Mediterranean cruise ? Then I got you covered!

Mykonos was my favorite stop on my 7-day cruise through the Eastern Mediterranean Sea – and I will make sure you will love it just as much.

There is so much to see and do on this small island that it can be hard to choose from. Mykonos is relatively small, with only 10.000 inhabitants living on the island.

But with only one day to explore this amazing island, how do you make the most of your precious time?

I have been to Mykonos on a cruise and have absolutely loved my day there. To make sure you have an amazing experience as well, I have created this ultimate guide to help you have an unforgettable day in Mykonos.

Let’s dive in!

A bright, sunny view of a coastal cafe in Mykonos. White chairs and tables are arranged on a stone-paved terrace, with the tranquil sea stretching out in the background, and traditional whitewashed buildings with blue accents line the waterfront.

Table of Contents

The mykonos cruise port, one day in mykonos from cruise ship – your options, 1. the best tours and day trips in mykonos, 2. exploring chora, 3. see the windmills of mykonos, 3. explore little venice, 5. visit archaeological sites, 7. relax on the best beaches of mykonos, best lunch spots in mykonos, how to get around mykonos, conclusion: one day in mykonos from cruise ship, more 1 day cruise itineraries, faq: one day in mykonos from cruise ship, about the author.

First, let’s start by locating the cruise port. The busiest port in Mykonos is in Tourlos, which welcomes large cruise ships from April through October. It is located near Agios Stefanos Beach.

From there, you can either take a public bus to Chora, the island’s main town or hire a taxi for a relatively short ride there. It is about 1.2 miles (3.5 kilometers) of driving time. It costs about EUR 10,00 to get to town.

Alternatively, you can also walk, but it takes about 30 minutes and there are no sidewalks.

Or if you’re feeling adventurous, rent a scooter or ATV and get ready to explore the island a little deeper.

Mykonos cruise port marked on a map

When coming to Mykonos on a cruise ship, you’ll have a couple of options when deciding what to do. The island is not too big, so you can easily discover most of it on the shore day.

Here are some of your options when coming to Mykonos:

  • Book a guided day tour or shore excursion
  • Visit the capital city of Chora and Little Venice
  • Hike up to the windmills of Mykonos
  • Check out the stunning beaches of Mykonos
  • Discover archeological sites

If you choose to book a guided day trip or a tour in Mykonos, you need to make sure it has a good cancellation policy. Cruise ships do not always dock punctually, and sometimes ports of call even get canceled due to bad weather on the way.

I usually book all my trips with Viator. They are usually amazing and affordable – and you can cancel them without paying a penalty. Perfect for cruisers.

Plus – they usually offer cruise ship pickup so you don’t need to organize a thing.

If you don’t want to find your own way around the island, this is your best option.

Here is my selections of the best tours in Mykonos:

  • Private Tour: Mykonos Island in Half a Day 🤩 5/5 Stars (82 Reviews)
  • Semi-Private Brand-New Catamaran Cruise in Mykonos 🤩 4,5/5 Stars (131 Reviews)
  • Mykonos Shore Excursion with Terminal Pickup 🤩 5/5 Stars (11 Reviews)
  • Mykonos: Combo Yacht Cruise to Rhenia and Guided Tour of Delos 🤩 4,5/5 Stars (322 Reviews)
  • Authentic Jeep Adventure Tour 🤩 4,5/5 Stars (37 Reviews)

Picture of Little Venice in Mykonos with white houses

Another cool thing to do in Mykonos is explore the charming alleys of Chora, also known as Mykonos Town.

Chora is the picturesque capital city of the island. You can find it on its northwest coast. It’s known for its whitewashed homes and cobblestone streets .

Chora is home to about 600 – 800 little historic churches, you can spot them by the little cross on the rooftops.

My favorite feature of Chora is the bright pink bougainvillea plants that make the small alleys even more picturesque.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in Chora, including shopping at the boutique stores along Matoyianni Street . You can also check out the famous galleries and museums. I loved the secondhand designer stores in Mykonos, they had amazing products at a great price point.

Chora has several museums worth visiting, such as the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos and the Aegean Maritime Museum . The best galleries to visit are the Lifeline Art Studio and Municipal Art Gallery

If you are interested in a big dose of culture, you might want to visit Virgin Tourliani / Panagia Tourliani . It is a famous monastery that has a fabulous marble fountain and lots of interesting artifacts.

picture of white greek house with pink bougainvillea flowers in front

The Kato Mili windmills are one of the most iconic landmarks of Mykonos and something that needs to be on your one-day-in-Mykonos itinerary. Not only are they super picturesque but you also have an amazing view from the windmills.

The windmills are conveniently located on a hill super close to Chora (Mykonos Town). From the windmills, you can see Little Venice and the Aegean Sea.

The iconic windmills were built by the Venetians in the 16th century . Back in the day, they were used to grind wheat and barley into flour, which the island people depended on.

Today, they are no longer operational. But they are among the most visited landmarks in Mykonos.

To see the Kato Mili windmills, you will need to climb a few stairs to reach them. I found the stairs not too intense, but you do need to wear good shoes. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or rent a scooter or ATV to reach the windmills. Keep in mind that there are only 30 taxis in Mykonos , so you might wait a while.

best tours in mykonos

Little Venice is one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in Mykonos and it is my favorite spot on the island. You can find Little Venice in the western part of Mykonos Town.

Here are some of my favorite things to do in Little Venice:

Little Venice is known for its charming houses and restaurant terraces that overlook the sea. Enjoy the stunning views while you relax in one of the many cafes and restaurants in the area. Sipping a cocktail or a coffee by the ocean with my loved one is my number one favorite activity on any trip.

Visit the Panagia Paraportiani Church : This famous church is located in Little Venice and is one of the most photographed landmarks in Mykonos. It is a unique example of Cycladic architecture, with a whitewashed exterior and four chapels. Translated it is called “Our Lady of the Side Gate”.

Little Venice is home to many bars and clubs that offer live music and fabulous cocktails. It’s a great place to experience the vibrant nightlife of Mykonos. This of course is only a consideration if your cruise ship stays overnight in Mykonos.

The ancient ruins of a circular, stone-built assembly place, possibly an amphitheater. Sun-bleached stones and fragments are scattered across the ground, all under the vast expanse of a clear blue sky.

Mykonos is not particularly known for its archaeological sites. But there are still a couple of interesting archaeological sites that you can visit on the island.

Here are my favorite historical sites to visit in Mykonos:

🌴 Delos is a small uninhabited island located just a few kilometers southwest of Mykonos. The site includes temples, sanctuaries, markets, and residential areas . Super interesting and only a short boat ride away.

🌴 Kastro Panigiraki is an old castle and fort with high stone walls. It is located right outside of Mykonos Town. It is mainly famous for housing the Anemos Windmill.

🌴 Ftelia Archaeological Site is located on the northern coast of Mykonos which was once a significant settlement in the Neolithic period. The Site is located on a beach and shows ruins of houses and other interesting structures.

I suggest including at least one of these sites in your one-day Mykonos itinerary – since it is a great chance to learn about the history and culture of the small island.

best tours in mykonos

The best beaches in Mykonos are nothing short of amazing! Whether you’re looking for a secluded spot or a more fun atmosphere, Mykonos has it all!

Here are my favorite beaches to visit during your one day in Mykonos:

🏝️ Paradise Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Mykonos. With soft golden sand and clear blue water, there’s plenty to do here. Enjoy sunbathing, swimming, jet skiing, windsurfing and more! It also has lots of beach bars and restaurants.

🏝️ Elia Beach is located on the south side of the island and is perfect for relaxing in the sun. It is a lot quieter than the other beaches of Mykonos.

🏝️ Agios Sostis Beach is another quiet and peaceful spot located in northern Mykonos. This glorious beach is backed by mountains and offers some stunning turquoise waters.

🏝️ Super Paradise Beach is home to some of the best parties on Mykonos. It is quite fun in the day, but I feel like it is a bit crowded in the evenings.

🏝️ Agios Ioannis Beach is a beautiful, quiet beach located on the southwestern coast of Mykonos. It offers stunning views of the Aegean Sea and the island of Delos.

🏝️ Psarou Beach is a beautiful sandy beach that is popular among celebrities and VIPs, so you have probably seen it on Instagram. Here are fancy restaurants and beach clubs.

Do you need travel insurance in Greece? Yes, travel insurance in Greece is highly recommended. Unsafe roads, water sports accidents, and food poisoning are only a few examples of when travel insurance could come in handy.   EKTA offers worldwide travel insurance  with 24/7 service and no hidden fees or restrictions.

A charming outdoor dining setting with wooden tables and chairs. Overhead, lush pink bougainvillea blooms cascade down, adding a pop of color. The scene is completed with rustic lanterns and a soft, serene sky in the background.

There are so many great restaurants in Mykonos that serve delicious lunches and traditional cuisine. After a fun day exploring, what could be more refreshing than a big bowl of traditional tzatziki?

Here are some of my favorite restaurants:

🍹 Kiki’s Tavern: Located on the beach of Agios Sostis, Kiki’s Tavern is a famous seafood restaurant that serves fresh fish and grilled meats. It has a relaxed and casual atmosphere and stunning views. Fun fact: they do not offer Wifi or electricity so people can actually enjoy the view without being disturbed by phones.

🍹 Captain’s: Super cute and authentic restaurant. They offer the so-called mezze-eating: little tapas and finger food are served and shared with the entire table.

🍹 Spilia Seaside Restaurant: This restaurant is located on a small platform of rocks in Agia Anna, and it serves Mediterranean cuisine. The setting is unique and romantic, making it a popular spot for couples. It is also one of the most iconic Mykonos hotspots, so it can get quite full. Keep in mind that they only open at 2:00 pm so it might be a late lunch.

🍹 Avli Thou Thodori: a small restaurant located on Platis Gialos Beach offering a breathtaking view and a big variety of local dishes. They are especially famous for their seafood dishes.

🍹 Nikolas Taverna: Nikolas Taverna is a family-run restaurant that serves delicious homemade Greek food. The menu includes dishes such as moussaka, stuffed tomatoes, and grilled lamb.

🍹 Kastro’s Cafe in Mykonos is probably the most famous hot spot on the island. It is mainly known for being located in a small alley right by the water.

🍹 Kyklamino : A family-run business specializing in sweet delights. Make sure to stop by for a yummy dessert!

These are just a few of the many great lunch restaurants in Mykonos. My favorite place to have lunch is in Little Venice, it is simply so cute and picturesque.

picture of a small street with white houses in mykonos

There are several ways to get around Mykonos, depending on your preferences and budget. Of course, you also need to keep in mind that your cruise ship will dock outside the bigger cities.

Here are some of the best options on how to get around Mykonos:

  • Walking: Mykonos Town is a pedestrian-friendly area. T he small alleys are best explored on foot. Walking is a great way to discover the hidden corners of the town and to enjoy the charming architecture and atmosphere. However, I would not recommend walking from the cruise ship to town, since there are no sidewalks.
  • Public Transportation: There are buses that run regularly between Mykonos Town and other parts of the island. The buses are reliable and affordable, and the routes cover most of the popular destinations on the island. Since your cruise ship will most likely only be in town for a few hours, I would not recommend this option either. Flexibility is key when you want to see a lot of the island in little time.
  • Taxis: Taxis are available throughout Mykonos, and can be found at taxi stands in Mykonos Town and other popular locations. There are also taxis available at the cruise port. Taxis are a convenient and comfortable way to get around the island, but they can be more expensive than other options. Also, there are only 30 taxis on the entire island, so it might take a while to find one.
  • Scooter/ATV rental: Renting a scooter or ATV is my favorite thing to do when exploring an island, There are many rental shops in Mykonos Town and they even offer rentals right at the cruise port usually. It is cheap and flexible and a fun adventure.
  • Car Rental: Renting a car is another great option if you want to be more flexible but a bit safer than on a scooter. There are many car rental companies in Mykonos, and rental prices are reasonable . However, driving in Mykonos can be challenging due to the narrow and winding roads. If you choose to rent a car, I suggest you get a very small one, because parking can be a hassle.

Overall, there are many options for getting around Mykonos, and the choice depends on your preferences, budget, and itinerary. My favorite option is definitely renting an ATV, and I can wholeheartedly recommend that for Mykonos.

Mykonos is a magical little island in Greece that will captivate your heart with its stunning beaches, historic landmarks, and delicious food.

Even with just one day, you can enjoy an unforgettable experience by exploring its hidden gems and exploring the cute towns.

One day may not be enough to see the entire island, but this guide will surely help you make the most out of your one day in Mykonos on a cruise! See the famous windmills, the charming town of Little Venice and the impressive churches of Mykonos in just one day.

One day in Mykonos is definitely enough to get a taste of the island. Start by exploring the beautiful town of Mykonos with its iconic Greek architecture and breathtaking views. Take a stroll through Little Venice catch glimpses of the famous windmills and explore the 15th-century Greek Orthodox Paraportiani church. If you wish to explore the island more, I suggest staying for at least 5 days.

It greatly depends on what your plans are. If you wish to do some sightseeing and eat a light lunch, you can expect to be spending no more than 50 USD. If you wish for more luxury it can be anywhere from USD 100 and upwards.

Yes, Mykonos Town is walkable. The town is not very big and everything is close by. You can reach the famous windmills in only a couple of steps. From the cruise port to Mykonos town, you might want to catch a cab.

I prefer Santorini over Mykonos. The island is a bit bigger and has more to offer. While Mykonos has some amazing spots, it is mainly attracting partygoers and jet setters. Santorini does have a lot more cultural and historical sites to offer.

The best months to go on a cruise to Mykonos are May, June, and September. I have been in April and it was a little bit too chilly to swim. In July and August, it can be too hot and too touristy, so I would not recommend going then.

The best things to do in Mykonos

W hile Mykonos's main attractions are, largely, its profusion of pretty beaches and the twisting, maze-like allure of strolling through the capital, Chora, look a bit deeper and there are some interesting cultural experiences to be had. The island is close to one of the most famous archaeological and mythological sites, Delos, where you can still see the remnants of some traditional pastimes and industries. Pleasures are to be had in discovering quiet squares and browsing around avant-garde galleries, following pathways and streets that were once trodden by the pirates who used to patrol the island's waterways.

For further  Mykonos  inspiration, see our guides to the island's best  hotels ,  restaurants ,  nightlife  and  beaches .

Transport yourself back 5,000 years to the time of the Greek Gods

It's said to be the birthplace of twin gods Apollo and Artemis; a small speck of rocky land just 30 minutes from the Old Port. Delos evolved to house a thriving community, who built temples, houses, agorae and wells, adorned with statues and sculptures that paid tribute to these people’s deities, many of which remain (if not all intact).

Insider tip:  Today you can also visit a purpose-built archaeological museum, filled with remnants which have been excavated from the site.

Watch the sunset behind the island's few remaining windmills

While it's lovely to sit at one of the many chic cocktail bars which line the waterfront by Little Venice as the sun goes down, the colour of the sky set against five of Mykonos's remaining wheat mills (one of the most iconic symbols of the island), is well worth viewing. Take a seat by the small square across the road from the Windmills of Kato Mili, bring a bottle of prosecco and toast the lilac, pale orange and pink shades as they fade to dusk.

Insider tip:  You might get a prime view of one of the island’s three pelicans, as they often take their daily evening passeggiata from here.

Settle in for an open-air film screening

What could be nicer than watching one of your favourite movies outdoors, under the stars? Cine Manto is tucked away in a quiet square, with an all day café-restaurant set in an inviting, 11,300sq ft, tree- and cactus-lined garden. It shows a programme of late-night films (screening at either 9pm or 11pm) all through the summer; check the website for the most up-to-date programme but expect to see some of this year’s big hitters - potentially anything from Barbie to Maestro.

Insider tip: Come here for dinner and time it so the film starts just as you're finishing dessert.

Immerse yourself in Chora's labyrinthine streets

If it's your first time to the island, you might want some orientation to navigate round the town's fiendishly maze-like streets – an Old Town guided walking tour will help. History has it that its impenetrable-seeming layout was due to the inhabitants, who wanted to make it difficult for any invaders, namely pirates, to find their way in to the centre, or indeed get back out. They've done a remarkable job of making it tricky to walk around, but that also means you slow down and take in the charming alleyways, back streets, squares and doorways.

Insider tip:  Don't be afraid to ask your guide if you can spend more time in one of the shops or sample a delicacy. Most are locals who are proud to show off their island.

Watch some of the island’s only remaining weavers at work

Mykonos was once an island of weavers, as well as an island of fishermen and millers. Up until the 1930s, knitwear was widely produced and sold. However, with the advent of technology, such skills have fallen into decline; today there are barely any women using looms any more. However, carrying on the tradition are Nikoleta Xidakis and her daughter Anna at their shop Nikoleta. You’ll find their small workshop and store not far from Paraportiani church, where they still make colourful scarves and shawls, and you can see them at work.

Insider tip: If you ask nicely (Anna will translate), Nikoleta might let you try out what it’s like to use the loom.

Find a slower pace in the countryside

Ano Mera is the second biggest town on the island after Chora, but its position inland, 30 minutes' drive away, means it feels more sheltered and quiet. It’s great to escape to if you tire of the beach or the nightlife, with some fascinating sites, including the ruins of 13th-century Venetian castle, Gyzi, and a couple of handsome monasteries. Panagia Tourliani has a beautiful, well-preserved belltower, while Paleokastro Monastery is simpler but offers beautiful views from its elevated position.

Insider tip:  Stop for a photo-op by the beautiful red, yellow and blue painted Sun of Mykonos apartments, scattered with oversized, primary coloured pots, just five minutes' away in Klouvas.

Get set to cook like a Greek

Yes, it's great to go a restaurant and order your favourite Greek food – but what's it like to try your hand at cooking it yourself, while learning about the culture behind the cuisine and Greek traditions? Immerse yourself in all this and more with a Mykonian cookery class, such as the one at Mykonian Spiti. Spend the day at the home of a Greek family, where matriarch, Teta, will tell you more about the history of the island, what daily life is like for locals, and share typical Mykonian meze. Then, using ingredients from her garden, you’ll learn how to make a variety of traditional dishes such as tzatziki, beef with orzo pasta and spinach pie. The atmosphere is convivial and relaxed – helped by the free-flowing ouzo.

Insider tip:  You can combine this with a visit to the family’s nearby farm estate and vineyard to learn about their organic farming practices.

Southern Mykonos

Take to the waves on board a classic yacht.

What could be more pleasurable than feeling the breeze in your hair as you sail from one side of Mykonos to other, skirting its beautiful southern coast? This, after all, is where most of the island’s best and most beautiful beaches are located, from Agios Ioannis – the starting point – past Ornos, Paradise, Paraga, Elia and more. This six-hour boat trip (Mykonos: South Beaches Cruise) makes a couple of stops for snorkeling and swimming in the crystal clear Aegean waters, followed by a barbecue lunch on-board, and skirts past tiny Dragonisi island – popular with divers – before returning to port.

Insider tip:  Leave high heels and fancy clothes at your hotel; you'll be barefoot on board and spending most of the day in your swimsuit anyway.

Contact: getyourguide.com/mykonos

Northern Mykonos

Hang out at a beach club.

It might come as a surprise to discover that there are a couple of vineyards on this largely barren, wind-swept island, but in fact the combination of the strong north winds, lack of water, and rich ingredients of the soil result in some delicious grapes. Head to the Vioma organic farm just outside Ano Mera village, where the Pasoglou family produce honey, vegetables, and herbs. Their vineyards are a legacy of the local monastery, which yield some of the island’s finest rosé and white wines, based on traditional Aegean varietals (Mandilaria, Agiannitis, Assyrtiko and Athiri). Tastings are accompanied by Greek tapas (mezedes) made from the farm’s produce.

Insider tip: Kids are welcome, and can meet Marika, the family’s friendly pet donkey, and Marousso the sheep.

Sailing Greece - Santorini to Mykonos

Great country, excellent tour leader but very poor comfort...so think about it twice before taking the tour, little space in a boat, no real shower...and I won't comment the toilets. ..and in august, it's very windy so you will never be able to relax in the deck..just watch the others being sick...Just so you know.....but the country is nice and worth exploring.

Outstanding organization. Amazing visits to the islands, each unique. Daily very helpful briefings.with island info, and great links sent to us, highlighted and enhanced the odyssey. Skipper highly experienced, congenial, friendly and always ready to answer our questions. Flexibility with departure, according to our needs and the daily activities. Great recommendations for dining, museum visits, extra excursion options. As a native English speaker living in Germany I did luck out with a marvelous lively mix of native speakers on our boat. I celebrated my birthday with this energetic group. The trip surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend this trip.

What an incredible trip to remember! Greece is such a beautiful country and my wife and I had so much fun exploring and experiencing the culture and extravagance. The view from our hotel in Mykonos was beyond stunning. The trip did have a few hickups but I really appreciated the quick and efficient communication from Tourradar to correct the problem or issue. They did not give excuses for the companies they booked through for transport or tours and really had our back. They also asked and listened to feedback and expressed their appreciation for it. Will definitely considerer using them again in the future!

Athens, Santorini & Mykonos with 3 Guided Tours | SemiPrivate | 10 Days

Excellent organization of the trip including the logistics of getting us from place to place. Drivers and Tour guides were excellent. Quality of the hotels were very good in Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini. The only negative was the fast jet back to Athens. At the last moment the boat was switched from a larger boat to a smaller one and our seat assignment did not apply(impacted many people). This created significant chaos and a significant amount of time during boarding to resolve. It was handled very poorly.

For the most part this tour was great. Moving from isle to isle so frequently, it might make for a better experience to offer the option to spend.3 days in Naxos and Santorini vs 2. Accommodations in Paros and Naxos were nice but not 4 star quality~~ especially in Paros. The hotel was remote from everything including transportation and restaurants and not walkable to anything. The Naxos hotel room had an unusual interior. The Travel Zone staff were wonderful and were responsive to any issues. And the Santorini sunset cruise was fabulous.

Explore Athens, Mykonos & Santorini & stay at 4* hotels (3 inclusive activities)

We enjoyed the experience but there were definitely a few mishaps which needed to be resolved. Positives were the day tours booked in Santorini and Mykonos, absolutely great days which were highlights of our trip. Two out of three of our hotels were different to the ones listed - which was fine, but one was a 3 star in Athens which was a bit disappointing given the name of the tour referring to 4 star hotels. Both hotels in Santorini and Mykonos were beautiful though. We did have issues with transport not being booked for the day tour included in Athens, and had to reach out to rectify this. I think this tour could be improved with more active communication from tour radar and a more detailed itinerary so where knew where to be for transport and when it was booked. We had to ask for a taxi to be booked for our Athens tour as the meet up spot was a 45 minute walk away and this wasn’t communicated to us earlier, but then the taxi never showed up due to road works. I understand things happen but we were never told by your radar about this and had to rush last minute to catch the train to our location once we realised the taxi wasn’t going to show. We also had no information about how to get our ferry tickets and had to ask for instructions. I did get in touch with tour radar and let them know about our disappointments and they did send us a nice bottle of wine and fruit platter afterwards, and we appreciated the sentiment. Overall it was a good tour, but the communication could be improved :)

Authentic Greek Islands Tour

Authentic Greek Islands

We did the Greek Island hopping vacation in June 2022. It was the best experience ever. We were completely looked after for transportation (air, land and ferry) and accommodations. It couldn’t possibly have been better organized and I will travel with Wingbuddy again. We are looking at the South Africa tour right now.

Charms of the Cyclades Tour

Charms of the Cyclades

Going in, we give Wingbuddy extra points for customizing their packages to meet the clients wishes. Since this was the first trip booked through Wingbuddy, it was unknown how reliable they are, but coming out of this experience, I would say that we are very pleased. All the transfers were handled seamlessly. The drivers were always prompt, friendly and helpful. The accommodations were just fine. We came to realize that this company oversees your trip in the background to ensure that everything runs smoothly for you. We recommend them to others and would book again with Wingbuddy.

What people love about Athens Santorini & Mykonos Tours

Loved this sailing adventure and plan to do another one in the near future. The Captain Marius was excellent with a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of sailing and taking care of his passengers. Our group gelled well and we all had fun swimming, eating on board and going out to dinner and playing cards. I would definitely do this adventure again
Mia our leader gets 10/10! We were lucky to have her as our guide. She made everything easy and we saw so much in a short time. This has been a memorable trip. It's my first Intrepid tour. I will definitely be doing more and will recommend them to my friends!! Thanks Intrepid
Max was an amazing Skipper and went to great lengths to ensure we all had an amazing experience. I highly recommend this trip and will definitely be coming back for future adventures.
