On our helicopter hunting trips, you’ll be taken up in one of our helicopters and be given one of our suppressed AR-15 rifles. We will fly you over the pigs, and you get to gun down as many of them as you’d like. Normally, when hunting wild hogs you will have many shot opportunities during your flight.

Trap & Skeet Shooting

When designing our skeet range, we were very careful to make sure the layout follows official skeet range guidelines. The skeet range is great for avid shooters and it’s a great way to incorporate some competition into your shooting activities. The skeet range is designed to incorporate all shots hunters will encounter in the fields leaving few, if any, possible field shots unpracticed. As you enjoy all of your shooting facilities you will be treated to some of Texas Hill Country’s most breathtaking views. Shooting sporting clays is included in the regular hunting package so take advantage of it and shoot all you want 

Bow Hunting

Want to get a little more up close and personal?  Jump on one of our UTV’s and go hunt some wild game with a modern bow and arrow.  After flying high this is a great way to get grounded and back to basics.

Everything you should know about hunting feral hogs from a helicopter, how many helicopters do you operate.

We own and operate two helicopters housed on on ranch. As mandated by the FAA, all of our helicopters are inspected and serviced by an approved FAA mechanic in the mandated intervals.

Do you offer transportation?

-We have a Sprinter Van style and a 40 foot motor coach equipped with Wi-Fi and satellite TV. We pick you up and drop you off at the airport, and drive you to the hunting location each day.

Do you mix groups?

You always fly with your own group when hunting with us.  Sometimes, smaller groups are housed on the ranch at the same time but never in the same buildings. 

How long have you been in business?

We have been in the hunting business over 30 years and have been operating a full-time Helicopter Hunting business over eight years.

The morning of the hunt does not start like any other day. The safety course is scheduled an hour before dawn, but you’re already wide awake. Shutting off the alarm, images of the day are nearly unimaginable as the adventure is completely new. The safety course is a breeze, but you mentally review the instructions given by the pilot and crew chief and remember to stay calm as the helicopter lifts off the ground. The Experience

You’ll fly into Midland International Airport (MAF) in Midland, TX or San Angelo Regional Airport (SJT).

Depending upon concentration and location of the animals, we will select which hunting lodge you should travel to.

Regardless of experience level, everyone will go through our safety course and orientation to aerial shooting so that we can get flying first thing in the morning.

Meals will be prepared for you, snacks and drinks are plentiful throughout the flying during the day.

We schedule a full 16 hours of flight time, weather permitting this ensures everyone will have the best opportunity for ample trigger time. Safety is our number one priority and there are weight limits per helicopter. The weight of shooters will determine whether we take one or two people out per flight. Shooter rotation is according to opportunities to shoot, rather than leaving someone out according to their luck, our format ensures everyone has equal opportunity to bring hogs and coyotes down!

Frequently Asked Questions

We have over 2.5 million acres of leased land throughout Texas for our helicopter hog hunts. Locations are selected based on the currant concentration of hog and coyote numbers as well as landowner preferences. Generally you will fly into Midland International Airport (MAF) in Midland, TX or San Angelo Regional Airport (SJT) and depending upon the current conditions we’ll select which hunting lodge we’ll base your hunt out of.

These hogs are desert dwellers, the meat is not worth recovering. These dead hogs provide an alluring snack for the local coyotes which allows us to help manage their population numbers. We do offer mounts at an additional charge.

Our main season is mid January through the end of May annually.  Occasionally we can accommodate trips during the summer.

Our per hour average is very consistent averaging 18-20 per hour, maxing out at about 40 per hour depending upon shooting performance.

Fly into Midland International Airport (MAF) or San Angelo Regional Airport (SJT) from there you will need to rent a vehicle to travel to one of the lodges.

Shooters must be 18 years of age for safety purposes. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Weight depends on overall persons’ size, 265 pounds is the single shooter maximum.

Safety is our number one priority and there are weight limits per helicopter. The weight of shooters will determine whether we take one or two people out per flight.

Yes you can! We do require you bring your own suppressor or use one of ours.  Please note, direct impingement AR15’s do not hold up for very long in the helicopter while helicopter hog hunting. We shoot steel case ammo which runs rather dirty, a piston driven AR platform would be the only customer firearms that are allowed.

The last thing we want to do is send you away without experiencing your helicopter hog hunt. Our hunts are 2 and a half days, we schedule an extra half day of flight time to accommodate for any potential weather delays. If the weather is not going to let up, we will reschedule you at no charge. With lighter weather it is possible that a window of flight opportunity will open, and we will jump on the first opportunity we get!

Yes observers are welcome. The non-hunter daily lodging and meal charges will apply.

Proper clothing, your hunter safety certificate (if you were born on or after Sept. 2, 1971) and your hunting license. If it’s warm you’ll be fine with shorts/jeans and a short sleeved shirt. If it’s cold you’ll want wind-blocking clothing that’s warm. Don’t confuse warm with bulky though, quarters are tight so space is precious. We suggest a hat/beanie, sunglasses for the wind and gloves that allow for weapon operation.

A Texas hunting license. We will take care of the licensing online, on site. The license fee is $50.00.

If you are planning to purchase your license ahead of time, for residents you need the basic hunting license, no endorsements required. For non-residents you can get the special 5-day option which is $50.

What to Expect

Each flight is an hour long and includes your weapons and ammo. In the Astar, Bell 206 and MD500 we fly two people at a time, one person on each side of the aircraft. In the Blackhawk, we can carry up to six (6) shooters at a time with four (4) shooters being the best experience. You will be outfitted with AR15 rifles in 223 caliber and approximately 1,000 rounds of ammo between you, in the Blackhawk, we will take about 2,000 rounds of ammo. After a safety class and briefing, you will take to the sky to rain down on unlimited hogs. Each flight takes place on the ranches we hunt to minimize ferry time from LZ to OA. (Landing Zone/Operations Area) we work to keep the ferry time down to a max of 12 minutes to any one property.

What We Fly

At Executive Outdoor Adventures, we provide only the best, safest aircraft that are turbine powered and have the capability to transport without weight restrictions. We use a Bell 206 Jet Ranger, an A-Star with dual sliding doors, MD 500 and the iconic twin engine UH-60 Blackhawk with dual sliding doors. Our pilots are all highly trained and experienced in low level flight maneuvers in each of the specified aircraft and undergo constant training.

Helicopter Hog Hunting

It's as Texas as you can get.  Buzz droves of hogs just feet off the ground at highway speeds!  We’ll bring the guns, you bring the trigger finger. The day starts at sun-up, with a thorough safety course that covers safe firearm operation in and around an aircraft. We're going to teach you to stay safe in the aircraft, too.  

Then the rotors turn and IT'S ON.  Texas Heli Safari outfits hunters with custom-made Patriot Ordnance Factory "Revolution" 7.62mm rifles.  The weapon weighs in under seven pounds and is equipped with an Operator Suppressor System  HX-QD suppressor so you can shoot comfortably for hours.  Also, each gun is equipped with Aimpoint Red Dot Reflex sights and all the ammo you can shoot.  You're going to have a good time.

Your hunting grounds are forested agricultural lands that THS secured permission to use. Feral hogs are an invasive species and an expensive adversary to farmers and ranchers.  Each year, hogs cost the agricultural community billions of dollars in damaged crops and  livestock losses.  There are millions of hogs in Texas, and rabbits wish they could reproduce as fast, so there are plenty of places to send all that ammo.

In an effort to help farmers and ranchers manage the feral hog problem, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department allows feral hogs to be taken by any means at any time of year. There are no seasons or bag limits, however landowner permission and a focus on safety are required to hunt them.  Refer to the 2011 Texas HB716, the Pork Chopper Bill, for more information.  Or come with us and see for yourself.

Trip Sales made directly through Gerhart Outdoors are only eligible for a refund within 10 days from the original purchase date.  These trips are extendable only through express written permission from both Gerhart Outdoors and the specific Outfitter.  Trips purchased through fundraisers where refunds are requested must go through that specific chapter or banquet as each has their own refund policy and is the responsible party for generating the trip sales.  Trips are also not able to be transferred between parties without express consent from Gerhart Outdoors.

Cross Texas hog hunting off of your bucket list by flying with Veracity Aviation. Coordinate with the Government & Civilians

Feral hogs cost landowners across the U.S approximately $2 Billion in damages annually $50 Million In Texas alone. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department estimates that, as a state, we must eradicate 75% of the hog population every year in order to keep those numbers stable and currently we are only eradicating about 25%. This last spring we worked with The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment as area experts on Hog Management in South Central Texas.

Plan the Logistics

We  provide the helicopter, pilot, fuel and ammo for one simple hourly rate. We work with farmers and ranchers across the state to provide them eradication services in a shoot and let-lie environment. If you have property that needs eradication, let us know and we’ll take care of everything.

All properties need an LoA filed with TPWD under our permit. Hunters will need proof of their Hunter’s Safety Education.

Hog Eradication

If you own property and need hogs eradicated – call us! We will hunt your land for you or provide rates for land owners looking to hunt their own property.

Due to the seasonality of hog hunting, our options for hunt days and times often book up far ahead of time. Make sure to contact us as soon as possible to set up the hog hunting trip of a lifetime! The best time to hunt is from the end of deer season to the end of May. This is because the property owners do not allow hunting on the ranches with deer on it during deer season and also as the temperature rises and the brush thickens, it is harder to herd, flush out and see the hogs. We have recommended lodging and hourly requirements based off of the package you choose and how many people are going.

Instruction Course

A short course on shooting from the helicopter is included. Veracity Hunting trip pilots will teach you about the guns, the nature of feral hogs and how to execute safe gun control while inside the helicopter. We fly low and equip our hunters with shotguns for a higher kill-ratio. Though our hunters typically have a great time, this is also a mission for reducing hog population. In order to use ARs, we have to have special permission from the landowners.

A Plague of Pigs in Texas

“I’ve trapped 61 of ’em down here in the last month,” says Tom Quaca, whose in-laws have owned this land for about a century. “But at least we got some hay out of here this year. Then maybe—maybe—the hogs will move onto adjacent hunting grounds and he can once again use his family’s land./p>

Wild hogs are among the most destructive invasive species in the United States today. Two million to six million of the animals are wreaking havoc in at least 39 states and four Canadian provinces; half are in Texas, where they do some $400 million in damages annually. They tear up recreational areas, occasionally even terrorizing tourists in state and national parks, and squeeze out other wildlife.

Texas allows hunters to kill wild hogs year-round without limits or capture them alive to take to slaughterhouses to be processed and sold to restaurants as exotic meat. Thousands more are shot from helicopters.

Do feral hogs carry disease? ​In general, diseases from wild hogs do not pose a significant threat to humans; however, some diseases can be transmitted to livestock and wildlife. It is important to keep all livestock vaccinated, especially where large feral hog populations are concentrated. Various diseases of wild hogs include pseudorabies, swine brucellosis, tuberculosis, bubonic plague, tularemia, hog cholera, foot and mouth disease, and anthrax. Internal parasites include kidney worms, stomach worms, round worms and whipworms. Liver flukes and trichinosis are also found in hogs. What is pseudorabies and swine brucellosis? Pseudorabies, also known as “mad itch” is a swine herpes virus that may affect the respiratory, nervous and reproductive systems. Despite its name, it is not a rabies type disease but derives its name from the symptoms similar to a rabid animal. It is transmitted primarily through breeding but may also to be transmitted through respiratory secretions of the infected animal. Infected adult swine typically develop flu-like symptoms whereas young pigs can have severe respiratory and digestive symptoms and ultimately die. Pseudorabies poses no threat to humans but may be fatal to domestic livestock and pets. Swine Brucellosis is an infectious, bacterial, reproductive disease that can cause miscarriage, low conception rates, and other problems. It is transmittable to humans, known as undulant fever, and causes flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, aches and pains. It is treatable with specific antibiotics.

Helicopter Hog Hunting Takes Off To Eliminate A Texas Nuisance

​Wild pigs are a nuisance in Texas. There are more than 1.5 million that roam the state and do a lot of damage to crops. One company has come up with one way to try to eliminate some hogs: shooting them from helicopters. ARI SHAPIRO, HOST: There are more than a million-and-a-half wild hogs roaming around Texas, and some are up to no good. Every year, these hogs damage about $400 million worth of crops. They’re such a nuisance that the state allows hunters to kill wild hogs year-round without limits. Reporter Brenda Salinas has this story about one company that is capitalizing on the problem by letting tourists shoot pigs from helicopters. BRENDA SALINAS, BYLINE: Here in this part of east Texas , wild pigs like to do one thing – root around in rice fields. Farmer Scott Savage says they can destroy four acres of his crops every night. That’s why he keeps a military-style rifle in his combine. SCOTT SAVAGE: If I see them out in the field, I’ll stop and shoot them. SALINAS: But no matter how many he shoots and kills, it’s never enough, so he’s offered up his land to a helicopter company . This company flies hunting enthusiasts several times a week over this field and a few others. The helicopter skims a few dozen feet off the ground as hunters Howard Melnick and John Mofit lean out. They’re ear, nose and throat doctors visiting from Pennsylvania. JOHN DUMONT: Good hit, good hit – yeah, that’s going to kill him. What do you guys think of that? UNIDENTIFIED MAN #1: That was freaking so exciting. SALINAS: After a training course, pilot John Dumont gives Melnick and Mofit two high-powered rifles and helps them strap into his doorless helicopter. That way, they can slide out and shoot as soon as they get the all clear. Dumont uses the sound and the chopper’s downdraft to herd the pigs right into the open. DUMONT: Yeah, clear to fire. Try to get the big one in the front first. Yeah, he’s hit now. Yeah, we lost that little piglet, but that’s OK. SALINAS: The company goes to sportsman shows all over the country to convince tourists to book hunting trips. Wild hogs are edible, but a Texas A&M study found many carry infectious diseases. That’s why they leaves the carcasses to the buzzards. In 48 hours, they’ll be gone. Melnick and Mofit paid 3,000 dollars for this experience. Back on the ground, I ask them, was it worth it? UNIDENTIFIED MAN #2: Oh, it was a hoot. It was crazy. It was neat. UNIDENTIFIED MAN #1: Absolutely worth every second of it – I mean, totally exciting, you know, totally exciting – loved it, loved it. I wanted more. SALINAS: Many clients are military veterans who miss the adrenaline of shooting moving targets, but many are just people who like riding in helicopters and firing guns. Some animal rights activists say shooting pigs out of a helicopter isn’t right. Skip Trimble with the Texas Human Legislation Network says it’s ineffective and inhumane. SKIP TRIMBLE: They generally don’t kill them with the first shot. They’re injured. And they hit other parts of their body, and then they suffer for a long time. And it’s not really a way of really eradicating these things. SALINAS: Finger on the trigger, even a seasoned hunter like Howard Melnick had second thoughts. HOWARD MELNICK: I could not shoot the piglet. (Laughter). I just couldn’t do it. And I’m looking at him like – that’s just not sporting. I’m not doing it (laughter). SALINAS: In the two hours Melnick and Mofit were in the air, they shot about a dozen wild pigs. That’s pretty standard for a helicopter hunt. About this hunt

Feral hogs reproduce exponentially, they cause millions of dollars in damage every year. It is estimated there are more than 2 million feral hogs in Texas alone. Studies have proven that to maintain the current feral hog population 70-80% must be harvested each year. There is no more effective means to maintain the population than helicopter hog hunting. We partner with our carefully selected landowners to help manage the population and protect their properties. We are the nation’s premier aerial outfitter. With over 2.5 million acres of leased land, six helicopters, and more than 25 years of flying experience our helicopter hog huts have set the bar high. We deliver the hunt of a lifetime and one you’ll talk about for years to come! Safety is our top priority. Our pilots have decades of experience and expertly maintained aircraft. We currently operate Robinson R44 helicopters armed with the highest grade AR-15’s and AK-47’s with suppressors and optics. Aerial weapons training course is provided to all clients. We schedule a full 16 hours of flight time, weather permitting this ensures everyone will have the best opportunity for ample trigger time. Safety is our number one priority and there are weight limits per helicopter. The weight of shooters will determine whether we take one or two people out per flight. Shooter rotation is according to opportunities to shoot, rather than leaving someone out according to their luck, our format ensures everyone has equal opportunity to bring hogs and coyotes down! Our awesome helicopter pilots will coach you through headsets until you are comfortable and get the hang of aerial platform shooting, and then you will stack them up! $9000 per person (4 person minimum) We have yet to have someone be displeased with these hunts, they are 100% successful leaving all smiles!

Hog hunting from the helicopter was smoother and safer than i could ever imagine. The sheer volume of shooting is unlike anything i have ever experienced.

It cost a little money, but its worth every penny.

Helicopter Heaven

Oh yeah, you can get your hunt on at grassy knoll enterprises. Waterfowl hunting, shot a limit of green heads in Alex‘s boat blind on the reservoir. That was kick ass! Predator Hunting, daytime and with night vision. Scored a big coyote at 3 AM. Came in after an hour of coyote calling when Alex Finally fooled that Wiley coyote! Sent him to Paradise with a little whisper! Spent the whole day on the long range rifle course, sighting in a 50 BMG and a 475 Chi tech. Got both rifles doped out to 1030 yards. then to cap it all off, Was the gunner in Alex’s helicopter in Texas and whacked 74 coyotes in two hours of flight time! That was as much fun as you can have with your pants on!!! Oh and did I mention that huge Boss Gobbler Tom Turkey that had 1 1/2” spurs , was 22 #s from Alex‘s property.... And I tell you what, there’s still more for fun to come! Getting back there quick as I can! Dr. Z

Do I need a license in order to hunt?

Most types of game listed on BirdDog require a hunting license. Additionally, Hunter Education is required for all hunters born after September 2, 1971 in Texas. Hunters from the age of 9-16, accompanied by an appropriately certified adult of at least 17 licensed to hunt in Texas, are also exempt. Hunter Education requirements can be met by completing an in-person or online course. You can purchase Texas hunting licenses and find more information here: https://tpwd.texas.gov/business/licenses/online_sales/ When hunting on private property, animals that do not require a license include hogs, coyotes, bobcats, and other nuisance animals.

How do I pay for my hunt?

The entirety of the base cost of the hunt is paid through BirdDog's website. In the event that the hunter takes a larger animal - or additional animals - the balance will be charged on or after the hunt. Hunters are expected to tip guides a minimum of 10%.
