An Evening with Seth MacFarlane and Liz Gillies unfolds with the grandeur of a large orchestra, blending the talents of two celebrated actors, vocalists, and longtime friends/collaborators. Join us for a night of lush, orchestral jazz duets and comedy that promises to be nothing short of spectacular. Seth MacFarlane is a five-time Emmy winner, five-time Grammy nominated and Academy Award nominated multi-hyphenate behind some of today’s most popular content in television, music, and film. At 24, he became the youngest showrunner in television history when his animated series Family Guy premiered on Fox, for which he holds the tied record for most voice-over Emmy wins of all time. MacFarlane also created and stars in the Emmy-nominated space adventure series, The Orville: New Horizons on Hulu. MacFarlane also boasts an impressive musical portfolio, having released seven studio albums: Music is Better Than Words, Holiday for Swing, No One Ever Tells You, In Full Swing, Once In A While, Great Songs From Stage & Screen, and Blue Skies. Elizabeth "Liz" Gillies was most recently the lead in the CW series, Dynasty which ran for five seasons. Elizabeth launched her career on the successful Nickelodeon series, Victorious. She then captured audiences on the popular FX series Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll , where she starred as the scene-stealing 'Gigi' opposite Denis Leary. Her other television roles include The Black Donnellys , White Collar , Friend Me , as well as voiceover work on Disney's Winx Club. On the film side, Elizabeth most recently starred and produced the Tubi film, Spread opposite Harvey Keitel, and can be seen in the independent film, Arizona , opposite Danny McBride which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018. She played a supporting role in the Warner Brothers feature Vacation alongside Chevy Chase and in Animal produced by Drew Barrymore. She also starred in the Warner Brothers animated film, Catwoman . Elizabeth made her Broadway debut in 13 starring alongside her Victorious co-star Ariana Grande. She continues to bring her musical talents to the stage alongside Seth MacFarlane; with him, she has been working on the album, Songs from Home (available on Spotify, Apple Music and other music platforms) as well as an upcoming Christmas album. From ‘Family Guy’ to Sinatra: Seth MacFarlane to perform jazz with Seattle Symphony

Producer, actor and singer Seth MacFarlane, known by many as the creator of “Family Guy,” “American Dad” and the “Ted” movies, is in town to perform with the Seattle Symphony on Friday night.

Sometimes he’s Seth MacFarlane, Grammy-nominated jazz singer, admirer of Frank Sinatra and 55-piece orchestras.

While MacFarlane is best known as the creator of “Family Guy” — a show defined by its controversy and scatological humor — he is also a musician. He says these two passions are easy to reconcile because really, they are both character performances.

“You need to act, you need to tell a story, you need to inhabit the lyric,” MacFarlane said.

“You gotta find a way in; find a way to make the song mean something to you. With an animated character, you are tapping into some of the less noble parts of the human psyche and with a romantic ballad it is the opposite, but the fact that you are telling a story is the same.”

MacFarlane trained his baritone with the help of vocal experts Lee and Sally Sweetland — renowned trainers of Sinatra. In 2011, he released his first studio album, “Music Is Better Than Words,” which would earn him the first of four Grammy nominations.

He went on to release “Holiday For Swing” in 2014, and most recently, “No One Ever Tells You,” which came out last year.

All three albums were conducted and arranged by Joel McNeely, who will conduct Friday evening’s performance. He is also one of the composers on “American Dad!,” another animated series created by MacFarlane.

McNeely’s double duties are just one example of MacFarlane’s ability to intertwine his musical ability with the cartoon kingdom he has built with Peter Griffin on the throne. Unlike other animated series, it’s no surprise to viewers when “Family Guy” incorporates a grand musical number into an episode.

“That is a show that utilizes anywhere from 50- to 80-piece orchestras for one episode,” MacFarlane said. “I’ll go occasionally to ‘Family Guy’ scoring sessions just to hear the orchestra play the score.”

Naturally, MacFarlane’s movies have had similar musical treatment. The title song for “Ted,” “Everybody Needs a Best Friend,” was nominated for an Academy Award for best original song in 2013.

Even with high-caliber award nominations, the voice behind songs like “I Can’t Poop in Strange Places” — a “Family Guy” original — has encountered a fair amount of bewildered critics.

“People will go along with you if you are taking it seriously and doing something of value,” he said. “We take it seriously. We really push ourselves to treat this as though these are recordings that are gonna be around for a long time, so they gotta be as great as they can be.”

So, when MacFarlane takes the stage on Friday, don’t picture an evil baby or a talking dog. Enjoy Seth MacFarlane, string junkie.

“There is nothing like working with an ensemble that is 55 pieces or larger,” he said. “As a vocalist you become a part of a larger organism, it’s less about yourself and more about what is taking place on stage … It becomes as much of a show for me to enjoy as hopefully the audience.”

Actress Claims Seth MacFarlane 'Hired Me To Abuse Me' On 'Family Guy' Set As A Teenager

"Zoey 101" star Alexa Nikolas is calling out Seth MacFarlane as part of her ongoing criticism of how child stars are treated in Hollywood.

Nikolas, who guest-starred on MacFarlane's hit FOX animated show "Family Guy" for one episode, took aim at the comedian i n a series of tweets .

Taking to Twitter, the former Nickelodeon star started off her series of allegations against MacFarlane by writing that he is "trauma" and that he only "hired me to abuse me. The first job I ever got "offered."

"This industry devoured me. It hopes you stay silent. It hopes you don’t remember," Nikolas wrote.

She continued, seemingly alluding to MacFarlane acting inappropriately toward her when she was young, "Sometimes through feeding you alcohol when you are 18."

"Through 'dating' you after but really it’s just to cover up the abusers' tracks. It leaves you traumatized."

In another tweet, Nikolas accused MacFarlane of acting inappropriately toward other young Nickelodeon and Disney that he would cast to appear on 'Family Guy.'

While Nikolas didn't name those young actresses, some of the guests that appeared on the show included Amanda Bynes, Ashley Tisdale, Ariana Grande, and Emily Osment, though none of them have ever come forward with allegations against MacFarlane.

Nikolas also seemed to hint at a specific incident between her and MacFarlane , writing, "Ask Seth and friends about his bodyguard at his bedroom f-king door. Imagine being on the other side of it."

Nikolas has previously been vocal about Dan Schneider's inappropriate behavior toward her.

In August 2022, Nikolas organized a protest against Nickelodeon to bring awareness to child stars being abused at the network.

She specifically called out Schneider, who was accused by several others at the network of inappropriate behavior.

Nikolas called him the "creator of childhood trauma" and that she didn't "feel safe" around him while working at Nickelodeon.

During an appearance on the "Real Pod" with Victoria Garrick last month, the actress also revealed that Schneider would sit in on wardrobe fittings for 'Zoey 101.'

"Whenever I had wardrobe fittings, [Dan] always had to be in them," Nikolas recalled. "Thank God there was a curtain, but he was literally [sitting] on [a] chair right outside of the curtain."

Earlier this month, while speaking with actress Christy Carlson Romano on her podcast , Nikolas claimed that Schneider would take photos of children's feet on set in exchange for money.

Nikolas said that Schneider would carry around a digital camera and "go around with money and ask to take photos of the kids’ feet,” before clarifying, “Their toes.”

She added that her 12-year-old self thought it was “weird” and “silly” but noted that her mother would warn her about interacting with Schneider. 

“Don’t go over there," Nikolas recalled her mother saying. “My mom actually said no to it. But I saw other parents allowing their kids to do it.”

About Seth Macfarlane

Seth Woodbury MacFarlane (; born October 26, 1973) is an American actor, animator, writer, producer, director, comedian, and singer. MacFarlane is the creator of the TV series Family Guy (1999–present) and The Orville (2017–present), and co-creator of the TV series American Dad! (2005–present) and The Cleveland Show (2009–2013). He also wrote, directed, and starred in the films Ted (2012), its sequel Ted 2 (2015), and A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014).

MacFarlane is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied animation. Recruited to Hollywood, he was an animator and writer for Hanna-Barbera for several television series, including Johnny Bravo , Cow and Chicken , Dexter's Laboratory , I Am Weasel , and Larry & Steve . He made several guest appearances on TV series such as Gilmore Girls , The War at Home , Star Trek: Enterprise , and FlashForward . In 2008, he created his own YouTube series titled Seth MacFarlane's Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy . He won several awards for his work on Family Guy , including five Primetime Emmy Awards and an Annie Award. In 2009, he won the Webby Award for Film & Video Person of the Year.

MacFarlane has performed as a singer at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has released six studio albums, in the same vein of his musical idol Frank Sinatra, beginning with Music Is Better Than Words in 2011. MacFarlane has been nominated for five Grammy Awards for his musical work. He hosted the 85th Academy Awards in 2013 and was also nominated for Best Original Song for the song "Everybody Needs a Best Friend" from Ted .

MacFarlane served as executive producer of the Neil deGrasse Tyson-hosted Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey , an update of the 1980s Cosmos series hosted by Carl Sagan. He was instrumental in providing funding for the series, as well as securing studio support for it from other entertainment executives. In 2020, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.

Seth MacFarlane & More to be Honored at The Entertainment Community Fund Gala

Special guests will include Annette Bening, Maria Friedman, Liz Gillies and more.

The Entertainment Community Fund will host its Annual Gala on Monday, April 8, 2024, in New York City. The evening will celebrate  Sonia Friedman CBE, Olivier and Tony Award-winning producer;  Seth MacFarlane , Founder, Fuzzy Door and Award-winning writer, actor, director, producer and singer; and Warner Bros. Television Group, Emmy-winning producer of scripted, unscripted and animated programming, as they receive the Entertainment Community Fund Medal of Honor.

The Annual Gala that honors entertainment professionals working in film, television, theater, music and dance will be held at the New York Marriott Marquis (1535 Broadway) with 6 pm ET cocktails, followed by a 7 pm ET dinner and tribute. The evening will include special performances and presentations as guests come together to support the Fund’s programs that foster stability and resiliency and provide a safety net over the lifespan of members of the performing arts and entertainment industry nationwide. 

Special guests will include  Annette Bening ,  Maria Friedman , Liz Gillies and more.

The Entertainment Community Fund Medal of Honor was inaugurated on May 9, 1910 when it was first presented to President William Howard Taft. The award was revived in 1958, and since 1992, when Shubert Organization President Bernard B. Jacobs was recognized, the award has been presented at an annual fundraising gala.
