Bangalore to Goa road trip is a spectacular experience. It can be done in multiple routes each having its own interesting places to see on the way! Driving from Bangalore to Goa is an annual pilgrimage for us. Sometimes we have driven to Goa at the drop of the hat!

The sights on each of these routes make the road trip to Goa from Bangalore memorable. Bangalore to Goa gives many opportunities to experience the beauty of the western ghats in different hues.

All five routes given here are spectacular drives. Here, the journey becomes more thrilling than the destination! Bangalore to Goa distance in all the routes is almost the same. There may be a difference of 40 KMs between the routes. These routes are convenient whether you are driving to North Goa or South Goa destinations.

Of the five routes listed here, you will be driving to Hubli in four of them and then take a deviation. The fifth route is different and does not touch Hubli.

All these routes take you through lovely ranges of the Western Ghats. You will be stunned by the beauty of the valleys and waterfalls you will see on the way. Especially if you drive in the monsoon. While driving in monsoon one needs to be cautious of possible landslides and roadblocks. The best season to drive will be immediately after the monsoon.

Route 1 – Amazing Anmod Ghat!

Latest update – The Anmod Ghat road is open for traffic after repairs. Ramnagar to Mollem will take 45 mins. However, there are small diversions and bad patches for few kilometres before you enter Goa border. Follow the signage, especially between Ramnagar and Anmod checkpoint on the Karnataka side. Once you cross to Goa, the road is good.

The shortest of the six routes. The drive from Dharwad to Goa is stunningly beautiful. Driving through Mahadayi Wild Life Sanctuary , you will see numerous waterfalls during monsoons.

Lovely valley views and the excellent road make this a pleasant drive. Stop over at places to enjoy the valley views.

Suitable for those who are going to North and Central Goa places like Panaji, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Arambol, Colva, Arpora etc first.

Bangalore to Goa Distance by this route  – 597 KMs

Driving Time – 10 hours with Breakfast and Lunch breaks

Suggested stops 

Breakfas t – Cafe Coffee Day (Sira), Upadhya Ruchi (Chitradurga bypass), Kapatharu (after Tumkur), Adigas Pakashala (Sira Byepass). Naivedyam ( Chitradurga Byepass, newly opened) Our Choice is Adigas Paakashala and Upadhya Ruchi. If you are ok with a slightly delayed Breakfast and want to have yummy Davanagere Benne Dosey ( Davanagere Butter Dosa), then stop at Apoorva Resort on the highway on Davanagere Byepass. All these places have restrooms.

Lunch – You don’t have good options for Lunch on this route. Sri Lakshmi or Vaishali in Ramnagar is a good bet. However, Molem would be a good place to eat something before you reach your hotel in Goa. Roshan and Mollem Karibu in Mollem are worth a visit.

Route 2 – Get awestruck at Amboli Ghat

If you are staying in North Goa we recommend that you drive through this route once during the trip.

The drive through Amboli ghat after Chandgad is mind-blowingly beautiful, especially in Monsoon. Driving through mist-clad roads with Amboli Valley on the one side and a canopy of waterfalls on the other side makes this route stand out for its beauty.

To top it all, you will get a chance to see beautiful Amboli Falls.

Suitable for those who are going to North and Central Goa places like Panaji, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator, Arambol, Colva, Arpora etc first.

Bangalore to Goa Distance by this route  – 667 KMs

Driving time – 10 – 11 Hours with breaks for Breakfast and Lunch.

Route 3 – Captivating Chorla Ghat

We drove on this route during the monsoon. What a blissful drive! The route from Belgaum to Goa is a pleasure. Virtually driving under a canopy of trees with green fields and valleys.

You will get a chance to see the grand spectacle of Surla Falls which is a small detour from the highway at the excise check post of Karnataka. Enjoy the pleasing view of the backwaters of Keri Dam and the rolling hills of Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary along the way.

Bangalore to Goa Distance by this route  – 626 KMs

Breakfas t – Cafe Coffee Day (Sira), Upadhya Ruchi (Chitradurga bypass), Kapatharu (after Tumkur), Adigas Pakashala (Sira Byepass), Naivedyam ( Chitradurga Byepass, newly opened). If you are ok with a slightly delayed Breakfast and want to have yummy Davanagere Benne Dosey ( Davanagere Butter Dosa), then stop at Apoorva Resort on the highway on Davanagere Byepass. Lunch – It would be good to have an early lunch in Belgaum which has good options. Else, the other decent option will be Delta Eco Huts on the highway before turning to Surla Falls

Route 4 – Twin falls and the Coastal drive

This is a perennial favourite of us. As soon as you leave Hubli, you are treated to soothing green fields.

Latest Update – The stretch after Yellapur through Arebail ghat is not in good condition with many potholes and slow moving truck traffic. Be prepared for extended journey time

After you cross Yallapur, you will be driving through forests till you meet the NH 66. There are few potholes on the road especially in forest areas. Please look out for them. This route allows you to visit two charming waterfalls – Magod Falls and Vibhuti Falls.

For Magod Falls, take a small detour of 12 KMs from the highway. A spectacular waterfall formed by the Bedti River. On the way to the falls stop over to enjoy the beauty of serene Kavadikere lake.

Latest update – We understand that the road from the highway to Magod is not in great condition after the rains. This may delay the overall time of travel. Please plan accordingly.

Vibhuti Falls is another lovely waterfall you will see when you drive from Bangalore to Goa on this route. River jumps over rocks to form layered falls. Look out for the signage after Ramanguli. A drive of 14 KMs off the highway will take you to the falls.

Enjoy the enchanting views of the seacoast as you climb from Ankola. You may also stop to visit the warship museum at Karwar Beach.

After Karwar, Look out for the fabulous sight of Kali River’s confluence with the Arabian Sea.

This route from Bangalore is ideal for those who are going to places like Cancona, Palolem, Agonda, Varca, Cavalossim, Madgaon, and Benaulim in South Goa first.

Bangalore to Goa Distance by this route  – 673 KMs

Driving time – 11 – 12 Hours with breaks for Breakfast and Lunch.

Breakfas t – Cafe Coffee Day (Sira), Upadhya Ruchi (Chitradurga byepass), Kapatharu ( after Tumkur), Adigas Pakashala (Sira Byepass), Naivedyam ( Chitradurga Byepass, newly opened). If you are ok with a slightly delayed Breakfast and want to have yummy Davanagere Benne Dosey ( Davanagere Butter Dosa), then stop at Apoorva Resort on the highway on Davanagere Byepass. Lunch – Either one can have it at Kamat Upachar on the Mumbai – Mangalore highway. At the junction where you join the Mumbai – Mangalore highway, turn left and drive for a kilometre to see Kamat Upachar. If you are OK with waiting for another 45 minutes, then you can have lunch at Amruth Hotel in Karwar whose speciality is seafood Amrut restaurant in Karwar.

Route 5 – Joy of Jog Falls

A lovely route for those who are going from Bangalore to Goa if you are planning your stay in South Goa.

Once you enter Shiralakoppa, you will be driving through the Malnad region. This route gives you a chance to see the famous Jog Falls which is breathtakingly beautiful in monsoon.

The drive from Sagar to Honnavar is virtually through a green canopy. The stretch through Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary after Jog Falls is spellbinding. Stop over to enjoy the spectacle of Bangara Kusuma Falls which is glorious in monsoon.

Enjoy the magnificent sight of Sharavathi valley at the viewpoint which you cannot miss on the roadside. One may also visit the famous Bangaramakki Hanuman temple on the way.

Once you join the NH 66 at Honnavar, you will get a chance to see the confluence of the Sharavati River and sea. The drive along the coast till Goa is fantastic.

Bangalore to Goa Distance by this  route –  595 KMs

Breakfas t – Kamat Upachar (Sira),  Sai Palace (Between Sira and Hiriyur), Cafe Coffee Day (Sira), Upadhya Ruchi (Chitradurga byepass), Kapatharu ( after Tumkur), Adigas Pakashala (Sira Byepass). Our Choice is Adigas Paakashala and Upadhya Ruchi. All these places have restrooms.

We recommend you leave early in the morning around 6 AM so that you can comfortably reach your destination in Goa by 5 PM

We have given route maps for routes 1, 2 and 3 up to Panjim in North Goa and that of routes 4 and 5 up to Palolem in South Goa. You can reach your destination from these places.

• The Chorla Ghat road is likely to see more traffic among all the five routes due to vehicles coming from the Maharashtra side.
• Drive safe as the roads in Western Ghats are curvaceous.
• Our recommendation is to go by one road for the onward journey and return by the other depending on where you will be staying in Goa.
• There are other routes from Bangalore to Goa as well. These are via Dandeli after Hubli and via Bankapur after Haveri . You may try it if you wish to.

In the morning, the beach is a great place to lounge in, soak in the sun and interact with tourists from all over the world. Arambol Beach

Arambol Beach is located in North Goa. This is a good beach to visit if you are searching for a place that combines adventure sports with relaxation. These sports are more well-known in Arambol than the water sports which characterise the other beaches of Goa. There is no dearth of food or accommodation options.

Ashwem Beach

Located at the end of the North Goa beach stretch, Ashvem Beach is relatively unfrequented by visitors and as a result is exceptionally quiet and serene, making it is a perfect option for honeymooners or families with children. There is hardly any commercial imprint here- you won’t find much in terms of water sports but the beach is a good place to go swimming and visitors are always welcome to stretch out on the sands and just relax.

The charm of Ashvem Beach is in its laid-back setting which can be very attractive after the milling crowds on the other beaches of North Goa. Most people come here for the swimming on a day trip so accommodations are not high in number. But there are comfortable beach cottages in Palm Groove- an area on the beach abundant in palms- that you can live in.

The most popular beach in South Goa , Colva beach is a tourist must-visit. The ambience of the beach is perfect, being just the right balance between commercial and quiet. There are dozens of shacks that cater to the needs of visitors so food and drinks are easy to lay hands on.

Grand Island

If you want an all-in-one Goa water sporting experience, Grand Island is the place to go. There is a lot to be experienced here from diving to Snorkeling to fishing. Scuba diving is the most popular activity around Grand island because it offers so much in terms of underwater exploration. There are shipwrecks to be found here as well as some reefs. The “Suzy” wreck and the “Davy Jones Locker” are especially popular with divers as are Serge City, Bounty Rock and Turbo Tunnel.

Experienced and beginner divers both find something to satisfy in Grand Island. You can also go snorkelling. Professional instructors will provide the equipment and the instructions. Bumper boats and banana boats are also popular around the island. End the day with a fishing trip and a barbeque of the produce you caught. A day trip usually lasts from 8.30am to 4pm but it can be negotiated beforehand.

Chapora Fort

History lies at rest in Chapora Fort. Once a huge, commanding structure which was the site of many battles, and which was passed from the hands of the Portuguese to the Indians and back several times in its long history, this fort has seen a lot of action in the past. The present building was constructed in 1717.

The Fort rises on the banks of River Chapora and commands a great view of its surroundings. It stands on the head of a natural valley which leads directly to the sea. As you can imagine, the views from the fort are breathtaking. You can spend a couple of hours in this fort exploring it and taking in the natural landscape around it.

The Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception

This church has a long past and is one of the most important touristic landmarks of Goa . It was first built as a chapel in 1541. Over this chapel, the larger building of the church was then constructed in 1619. It has since undergone many revisions, but the original building has remained. It draws devotees from all over the globe and has been a spiritual and geographical landmark for centuries. 

Old Portuguese sailors who crossed the perilous seas safely and landed at Goa would pay their first thanks at this church. The beautiful whitewashed church with a lovely multicoloured interior at once imparts peace and delight. It is at its best in December as the feast of Our lady of immaculate conception is celebrated on 8th of December followed by the Christmas and New year celebrations.

Dudhsagar Waterfall

The Dudhsagar Waterfall is situated on the Goa-Karnataka border and are one of India’s must-see sights. The four-tiered waterfall structure is one of the tallest in India and is located on the Mandovi River. The white foamy water cascades down from a height of nearly 1017 feet off a nearly steep mountain face. You can reach the site by trekking from Kulem and following the jeep trail. Another possible route is the trek from Castle Rock in Karnataka. Reaching the waterfalls will not be an easy task but it is one that is worth every ounce of effort put into it.

They are best experienced during the monsoons as they lose their force during the dry season. Many Bangalore to Goa packages include a visit to this site and often an overnight camp at the location is included. The waterfalls also fall on the road route from Bangalore to Goa making them easy to visit.

Fort Aguada

A Portuguese heritage, Fort Aguada has been standing stern on the beach facing the Arabian Sea from 1612 when it was built in order to provide defence against the invading Dutch and the Marathas. It was a grand old fort in its time with the capacity to hold 79 cannons among other weapons of defence. It was one of the prize possessions of the Portuguese. Today, it stands as a famous landmark dividing the Sinquerim Beach and the Candolim Beach.

There is an old lighthouse standing within the Fort which was built in 1864, the oldest lighthouse of its shape and size in India. Fort Aguada is a great place to explore when you are out visiting the Candolim or Sinquerim Beaches. It can be explored on an afternoon when the sun is high and the beaches too hot for comfort. The windy atmosphere up here will keep you relaxed, and once it is evening you can easily come down to enjoy the beaches.

Bom Jesus Basilica

One of the most important of all tourist places in Goa as well as a central landmark for Catholics, the Bom Jesus Basilica is the place in which the incorrupt body of St Francis Xavier is kept. The Church was built in 1605 and the body of the Saint was brought to it in 1622 where it has lain since in its glass mausoleum. The body is perhaps the greatest attraction of the Basilica. A gallery of Modern Art is also a part of the Basilica.

The building is constructed in baroque style and is considered one of the best examples of baroque architecture in India. You can visit the Bom Jesus Basillica in December for the best experience of the tradition as the feast and novena take place at that time along with Christmas celebrations.

Lamgau Caves

The Lamgau caves can be considered as one of the ‘hidden’ attraction of Goa. Lamgau Caves are made up of two man-made caves which were meant to be a residence for monks. They are of great importance to the Hindu community in Goa and they reflect the transition from Buddhism to Hinduism. The caves are designed in a Buddhist fashion but the idols of Nandi and the Shiva Linga outside the main entrance of the smaller of the two caves reveal another aspect. The other cave is much larger and was used as a meditation and prayer hall.

The scenic route up to the caves is another reason to visit them. Surrounded by a dense nut plantation and many interesting local temples, the trek to the Lamgau Caves is really interesting. You can visit the caves on some early morning. This will allow you to go over the entire location peacefully and enjoy the small details that you might otherwise miss out. The location is well-connected by buses and taxis.

Verna Spring

Verna Springs, popularly known as Kesarval Springs, are located near the Verna Cliffs, hence the name. This is a good spot to visit for some nature sighting. The surroundings are quiet and only the hum of the forest fauna is to be heard. The Verna Springs are popular not simply for their natural beauty but also because the waters are said to have curative properties. The skin, eyes, internal ailments can all purportedly be cured by a dip in the water of Verna Springs.

This brings many people to them, and the place can get crowded. The Springs are big enough to take this influx of people and they are active enough to sweep away the resultant dirt in their strong currents. The best time to visit is during the monsoon season when the water is flowing at full force even though they continue to exist in the dry season albeit to a much less forceful extent.

Arvalem Waterfall

The Arvalem Waterfalls are not as huge as the Dudhsagar Waterfalls since they are only about 50 meters high and 7 meters wide. But reaching them is far easier than reaching Dudhsagar. Their location is also perfect since they are not located far from the popular North Goa beaches and have other sight-seeing places nearby. The Arvalem Waterfalls in themselves are a pretty sight, and especially imposing during the monsoon months when the fall into the lake below with a fearful force. 

They dry to a trickle in the summer leaving the lake to become a swimming pool for avid swimmers.  There is a well-maintained government park close to the waterfalls, which is a great spot for a picnic. You can make a fulfilling day trip to this location and also take part in the other activities close by. The children will have an especially good day.

Bats Island

Pequeno Island or Bat Island is a small gem which does not attract too much tourist attention. The island is home to some great water-sporting action and you can take part in some seriously good snorkeling here. There are professional facilities available for snorkeling and they also provide one with the equipment and the instructions. New snorkelers need have no anxiety. It is also a lovely place to experience some marine life around Goa.

Varieties of fishes like the parrot fish or the butterfly fish, lobsters, turtles and sea cucumbers live near Bay Island and can be spotted with ease. Reaching the Island is not an issue. You can reach the island by hiring a boat from Vasco De Gama. Take your own food along since food is not easy to come by on Bats Island.

Casino Cruises are a popular feature of Goa’s rivers and Deltin Royale Casino is one of the several Casino Cruises available in Goa . Anjuna Flea Market

Every Wednesday morning, The Anjuna Flea Market comes to life in Anjuna.- Flea markets are a quintessential Goan experience and the Anjuna Flea market is one of the best in Goa. It is an interesting off set to the beach scene and is only in operation from mid-November to April. The Market first came into existence alongside the party scene at Anjuna beach in the eighties. Hippies from all over the West congregated here to sell off their personal items, like Levi’s jeans and other trinkets, in order to fund their stay.

But now, the place has evolved into a big weekly market with goods from all over India being sold here. You can get hold of some good trinkets here while you hone your bargaining skills at the flea market. Tea stalls and snack stalls line the streets too, allowing the visitors to have a good time without worrying about food.

Sinquerim Beach

This beach is connected to the Candolim beach and Fort Aguada guards one end of its shore. As a result, the tourist attractions here are pretty much the same as those in Candolim. You can explore the old fort and the lighthouse that stands within the fort, enjoy the sunset from the fort or simply watch the waves crash on the seashore during high tide. However, unlike Candolim beach which is overflowing with tourists, Sinquerim Beach is much quieter.

The beach is a good place to relax in but be mindful of the sand as there are occasional reports of broken glass lying around in the sand. Be cautious when you take of your slippers or sit down. However, other than this minor hurdle, the beach is a good one and there are shacks which can provide you with cheap but good food options. At night, you can party at one of the clubs in Sinquerim like Sinq Night Club or head over to the clubs in Candolim and Anjuna which are only a short distance away.

Mandovi River Sunset Cruise

A sunset over a river is a magical thing and through its sunset cruise, the Goa Tourism Department invites you to take part in this beautiful experience. The cruise takes place every evening on the Santa Monica, a beautifully designed boat which cruises gently along the river for an hour. There are folk songs and dances enacted for the benefit of the visitors after which the floor is cleared for the DJ. Guests can sing and dance along having fun as the ship sails towards Miramar where a magnificent sunset awaits.

The route of the ship takes one past the architectural marvels of history like the Adil Shah Palace, the first building built in Panaji, and the Aguada Fort. Going aboard the Santa Monica and cruising along the Mandovi River is an experience worth indulging in when in Goa. Club Cubana calls itself the “Nightclub in the Sky”. Located in a remote location on top of the Arpora hill in North Goa, the Club comes alive at night as hordes of partygoers arrive here, beckoned by the colourful revolving lights. There is a spacious dance floor where you can groove to the beats and there is also a swimming pool with a lounge which adds to the feeling of luxuriousness that characterises Club Cubana.

Open only from October to April, the club does not encourage stag entries unless they form part of a larger group of couples. Wednesday is Ladies Night at Club Cubana so ladies get free entry and complimentary drinks. Guys accompanying the women need to buy tickets. Do not expect a lot of food here since they only focus on providing some snacks with drinks.

Their seafood is known to be amazing but it is also a good restaurant for vegetarians.

It is a relaxing restaurant to be in- the hosts are friendly and eager to serve up the best food they can. Their dogs- Chai and Biscuit, will have you fawning over them before your visit is over. Their food quality is extremely good but the star dish of the restaurant is the Veg Xacuti. Do not miss this one when in Pousada by the Beach. The fresh and friendly restaurant will kindle a warm glow in your heart and have you return to it over and over again.

Brittos is a decent place to catch a quick bite . The restaurant is located near the Baga Beach and is a good place to visit for breakfast or dinner. The proximity of the restaurant to the most populous beach in Goa means that lunch time can get very crowded, and so it is best avoided at this time.

You can also get hold of the beach view tables if you at a time when the crowds are low. Their food and their service is quite good and their seafood platter is an especially beloved dish. Since Brittos is located on the Baga beach, you can breakfast here before you head over to the beach to enjoy the sand and the sea.

Dining at Thalassa is an experience worth remembering. The restaurant has set up beachside tables which offer great sea views. Also called St. Catherine's Cathedral this 16th-century masterpiece took 80 long years to finish and is one of the largest churches in the world. It is believed that she was both a princess and a noted scholar, who became a Christian at around the age of 14 and also converted hundreds of people to Christianity, and was martyred around the age of 18. Catherine was known to be a spiritual pathfinder and raise her voice against the oppression of the Christians under the rule of Roman emperor Maxentius. She was so strong and logical with her arguments that the king himself was incapable of countering them and has a then he formed a committee of 50 philosophers to debate her ideas.However, even the assembly conceded defeat in front of her and confessed Christianity as their belief. Out of anger, the king burnt the philosophers alive and sentenced st.catherine to prison. Catherine did not give up, and she was succeeded in converting not only the jailers but also the king's wife. It is believed that she showed the path of Christianity to 200 people. Even when she was facing the worse condition of her life, she continued to stretch the word of Jesus. She was honoured with the title of"patroness of the wheel-wrights" because it is believed then when she was fastened to a spiked wheel as it was mentioned in her death sentence the wheel broke and she was left uninjured. And when she was finally beheaded, it is said that angle took her remains and laid them to rest atop Mount Sinai. When you visit the Se Cathedral, you can witness the Saint Catherine ornaments, a crown portraying her royal birth and has a book in her hands, which signifies her sound knowledge as she points a spiked wheel, which reveals her martyrdom.Se Cathedral HistoryThe Cathedral is devoted to St. Catherine of Alexandria, it is said that it was built to celebrate the victory of the Portuguese ruler Alfonso Albuquerque who destroyed the Muslim army and took ownership of the city of Goa. Consequently, it is also called St. Catherine's' Cathedral. In 1953, the Cathedral was presented with "The Golden Rose" by Venerable Pope Pius XII. It is a gold ornament, which the Popes of the Catholic Church have traditionally favoured and given as a symbol of devotion or affection.You can witness it as it is placed on the tomb of St. Francis Xavier. It was approved by Governor George Cabral to be spread in 1552 on the remains of an earlier structure. The formation of the church began in 1562. The church was completed in 1619 and was consecrated in 1640.  It is a perfect place to experience a blend of peace and tranquillity. You will be filled with positivity when you will visit this sacred place.The architecture of Se Cathedral  The architecture of Se Cathedral is awe-inspiring and elegant. The architectural style is a blend of Gothic elements and typical Portuguese style, or you can say that the architecture style of the Se Cathedral is Portuguese-Manueline. There were two different techniques that were opted to make the church. The exterior was made in Tuscan style and the interior has been built in and Corinthian style. With dimensions of 250 feet long and 181 feet wide, this church has a  delightfully decorated entrance that measures around 115 feet in height. The church is amazingly decorated, yet the style is intriguing and simple. The Cathedral has been built on an elevated base of laterite, which is covered with the thick lime plaster.You can also see the bell tower which is located on the southern side of the façade. The building of the church is rectangular on the plan but has a cruciform layout in the interior. The main altar is devoted to Catherine of Alexandria, and you can also see several old paintings on either side of it. You can also see the Chapel, which is known as the Cross of Miracles, it is believed that there was an image of Christ that was said to have appeared in 1619. 

Baga is a famous beach destination in North Goa that attracts thousands of tourists and watersports lovers to its heart. The beach shares its coastal line from the environs of Sinquerim, Candolim, and Baga, with the Baga shore being more lively and enticing. This bubbly beach is one of the best in Goa that stays awake the whole night. Called as "The Hometown of Nightlife," Baga beach is reputed for its cranky music celebrations by late-night, mouth-watering food, designer shops, and adventure sports.Tourism in Goa’s coasts got ignited by 1960 after the famous summer gathering of hippies from San Francisco. Dolphins can also spotted deeper in the blue ocean and there are some spotting trips organized by local ship owners to spot the sea mammal.

Thrilling Journey For An Exciting Destination: Bangalore To Goa

It had been while since we had a long vacation. For last few years long holidays mean going back to hometown and that’s too once a year. Though we made a number of weekend trips but the fun of long and relaxing vacation was missing.This was a special occasion of our 10th marriage anniversary and we wanted to celebrate in a most special and romantic way (well to the extent we could when a 5+ year old kid is around).There was one and only one place popped up in our mind was Goa . Yes it had to be Goa, the same place we had gone for our honeymoon!

Bangalore to Goa is not a tough mission; there are regular night bus services and low cost carriers shuttling between these two places. But I decided this has to be a road trip. A long drive to Goa was a long pending from bucket list. I don’t care about the distance, I don’t care about the stress of long hours of driving, I have an old hatchback but I don’t care; this trip has to be a road trip. We planned to go there in last week of January but started booking hotels from early November. January is peak season in Goa and if you do not book in well advance getting accommodation of your choice can be a problem. It would be wise to refer to a Goa tour guide especially when you're going in the peak season.

Just one week before the journey I changed the headlamps of my car from stock to XD and installed fog lamps because majority of the onward travel was planned during night and early morning. A thorough servicing was done with all regular checkups to make sure we do not come across unwanted surprises. We packed a whole lot of foods and downloaded in huge number of MP3s so that we are always loaded on highway.

Day 1 (24th Jan) Get set go!:

Our initial plan was to start on 23th evening and drive all night (may halt for some hours in between if we feel tired) and reach Goa by 24th morning. But on 24th we had Saraswati Puja at our apartment, which we did not want to miss. So we had a delayed start at 4 PM. Considering the late start my plan was to take NH4 and drive as far as possible before we call it a day. Hubli was my target for night halt but I was determined to reach at least Devangere so that next day we have enough time for a leisurely drive through beautiful Western Ghats.

Based on the reviews in team-bhp and other resources from Internet I planned the onward route as:

Home ( Whitefield )=> Tumkur => Chitradurga => Devangere => Hubli => Belgaum => Chorla Ghat => Panjim .

The usual route to reach Tumkur from our home has too many signals and observes terrible city traffic all through the day. I took alternate route via Budigere => Devanahalli => Doddaballapur =>Tumkur.

This route was 15 Km longer than original one but helped me to bypass the entire traffic and reach Tumkur tollgate before evening. Between Devanahalli and Tumkur there was heavy traffic, which reduced later.

NH4 was wide and appealing, with beautiful aura of twilight. The mood of long drive was pumping my adrenaline and I soon touched 100 Kmph. The road was fantastic, though there were lot of cars going for long weekend but I never had to slow down. Soon it was dark but I was able to maintain speed between 80-100 and in some occasions touched 125Kmph(my highest with Alto). Though NH4 was pretty much straight; I enabled my GPS and docked it in front of me to have an idea what is 1-2 KM ahead. It helped a lot to identify the curves well ahead in dark. In between we only stopped for bio breaks and tolls. Our stock of snacks, juices helped us to save time in this stretch. I was literally cruising on the road but even at 120, saw many cars to overtake me! Outside was pitch dark, and I have never driven on such a dark road. Miles after miles there was not a single sign of lights apart from taillights of other cars on road. But yet it was easy to maintain high speed because of well-marked awesome tarmac of NH4.

We reached Devangere at 9 PM, well within the schedule. For dinner we stopped at the Apoorva Resort. This place came as an oasis of light in the vast darkness. Many fellow travellers in team-bhp recommended Apoorva resort and I must say it was a right choice. The place was huge and well maintained; toilet was clean, which is a must for long drive stopovers specially if you have ladies and kids onboard. During long drives I prefer hot and spicy food; it stimulates nerves and helps to reduce tiredness for next stretch of journey. We really had an awesome dinner and break at Apoorva.

Our preferred night halt was at Hubli, which is 160+ KM from this place, and with the kind of drive I had so far I was confident to cover this distance within two and half hours. I called Kamat Yatrinivas and requested them to reserve a twin sharing room for us. We started at 9.30 and my plan was to reach Kamat by midnight. Everything was going fine and we were all charged up , soon I touched 100+ again and maneuvering well between the trucks to overtake. We stopped the car audio and started singing Tagore’s songs our heart out; it was so damn relaxing even after having a long day. I reached Hubli just before midnight, bingo! But where is our hotel? Then I realized Kamat is actually quite far from NH4, its actually on Hubli-Darwad State highway! We had to travel across the city to reach the hotel. It was mid night and there was no traffic but during daytime I bet it would have been heck of a drive.

Finally we reached Kamat at 12.30 AM but to our surprise staffs were awake and the check-in was unexpectedly smooth. We reached our room, changed and dropped like dead meats on the bed. The room was nice and cozy but there were noises of some construction work going outside, anyway we were too damn tired to notice that and had a very relaxing sleep.

Day-2 (Chorla Calling):

At 6.30 precisely the alarm rang and we jumped from the bed. Hot water was available so I had a quick shower and then we rushed down stairs for the complementary breakfast. They served nice South Indian dishes along with fresh watermelon juices and hot tea/coffee. The breakfast was tasty and wholesome. We paid the bills and checked out from hotel at 8 o’clock. The day started in a very relaxed manner and I started driving calmly as there was not much traffic on the road. Soon we crossed Darward and hit NH4 again. Last day most of my drive was during the night and I could not see the real beauty of this road. This time I was really flabbergasted by NH4! It is so wide, well maintained and scenic! It was a real pleasure to be behind the steering!

We reached Belgaum in no time and continued towards Chorla. Once you cross Mahaveer Nagar after a kilometer or so the road bifurcates. There is a signboard asking to take left to reach Panaji , AVOID that road; this goes through Khanapur- Ramnagar which is in bad shape as mentioned by many travel reviews; plus you miss the fun of driving through the Chorla Ghats. I took the right and continued towards Jamboti. Just after few kilometers of drive the sceneries started with lots of greeneries and hillocks on both sides of the roads. We stopped for tea in a small dhaba near Kinaye and again continued our journey after taking some snaps. Soon the hillocks became hills and we started climbing the ghats. This was my first drive through the Western Ghats and I was very excited. Chorla Road mostly ascends in Karnataka part and descends in Goa side. Later part is more beautiful and yes more challenging to drive.

The quality of road is fabulous with smooth pitch, I do not remember of coming across a single pot hole in the entire stretch (those start right after you pay entry tax in Goa; quite an irony isn’t it ?) . But too many curves and sharp bends (and of all possible sorts; from hairpins to S to Z) and too many stupid tucks and passenger busses make it tough to drive. At times they just try to push you out from the road; and yes they do overtake each other in sharp bends leaving no room for vehicles coming from other direction. My GPS came really handy again and I was able to guess what kind of bend is coming ahead and control the car accordingly. I usually rely on engine breaking while descending from hills and save manual breaking for emergency situations (frequent breaking can overheat the break fluid and cause beak failures) but this time I had to use it many times to control the speed.

Despite all such challenges driving through Chorla Ghat was experience of lifetime. There were stretches of dense vegetation, and wide views of the range; we stopped many times to feel the nature and take beautiful picture. If you are driving on this road please do not miss the opportunity to stop at the viewpoint to capture a breathtaking view of Lake Anjunem. We paid Rs 250 at the Goa border toll gate and continued our journey towards Panaji ; the capital of Goa and our first holiday stop. The interior roads in Goa are mostly narrow and well congested but it was not a problem for someone who learnt driving in Calcutta. We took NH4 bypass from Karamali Station road, which helped to bypass the entire city traffic. And we reached Hotel Menino Residency just after 2 o’clock.

Menino is an old yet well-maintained budget hotel just at the heart of the Panaji city. It is just a walk able distance from the strand, Mandavi River Cruise jetty and newly famous attraction of Goa ; the Casinos. It was a value for money stay with AC , running hot water, a mini fridge and large LCD TV. Staffs were also courteous and helping and food was great. The only two draw backs of Menino were lack of covered parking space and blunt complementary breakfast. Otherwise I would like to go back there again.

Panaji does not have a beach but it has its own sets of attractions. Leisurely walk though the narrow lanes of old Portuguese settlements, sunset on Mandavi River, visit to the old churches can make your day. We planned for the sunset rivers cruise and asked few policemen about the direction of the jetty. They informed being holiday the tickets from the jetty counter must either have been sold out or we will have to wait for more than hour in the queue to get one. One of them took us to a nearest travel agent and ticket was arranged within minutes without any extra cost. Goa police is helpful indeed. There was huge rush to board the cruise and we had to wait for our turns. They arranged chairs on the top deck; local musicians and dancers performed traditional Konkani and Bollywood numbers. Even tourists were encouraged to join them. We had a good time there specially the little one enjoyed a lot.

Our hotel was little more than 2 Km from the jetty and we walked back casually by the Mandavi Strand. In recent years lots of Casinos have started operating in Panaji and the best ones are in this stretch. Any way we had kid so it was not possible to explore one of those places plus I had been to Vegas and must say I am not so lucky with gambling either. So we came back to hotel had dinner and went to bed. Tomorrow we will get to see the sea for the first time in this trip; yes we were excited!

Bangalore to Goa drive – one of the best road trips in India

Off late, Goa has been our goto destination. We have visited Goa 3 times over the last 3 years. And each time, we had a Bangalore to Goa drive or Bangalore to Goa road trip. But, each time the experience was different. The first and the second time time on our Bangalore to Goa drive, we halted in Hubli on the way. But then these were longer trips from Bangalore to Goa.

Our first Bangalore to Goa Drive Via Hubli

On the first trip, we first drove from Hubli to Gokarna, spending a day in Gokarna . And then drove from Gokarna to Palolem Beach in South Goa where we experienced staying in a beach hut in Goa . From there, we further moved up the next day, to Benaulim Beach in South Goa. And we stayed at Biera Mar Beach Resort here for 2 weeks. In fact, we worked from Goa during these two weeks. And did day trip to explore North Goa from South Goa . And did a heritage walk of Fontainhas Latin Quarters of Panjim . Apart from that, we mostly spent our days working and evenings on the beaches in Goa .

While returning, we again took a halt in Hubli. So, on Saturday we drove from Benaulim to Hubli. And on Sunday from Hubli to Bangalore. We stayed in hotel Naveen Lakeside in Hubli which was a good hotel, with nice breakfast spread and very huge lawn besides the lake for kids to enjoy the evening.

Here’s the route taken on this trip :

Distance from Bangalore to Hubli : 412 km

Time taken to drive from Bangalore to Hubli : ~6.5 – 7 hrs

Bangalore – Hubli highway, NH 48 is a 6 lane highway for most parts. And is in excellent conditions. As a result, it is a breeze to cover the 412 km from Bangalore to Hubli. We started around 5:30am from our home, halted for breakfast around 7:30-8:00 am for over an hour. And still reached Hubli by 1:30pm.

Distance from Hubli to Gokarna : ~149 km

Time taken to drive from Hubli to Gokarna : ~ 4 hrs

The route from Hubli to Gokarna via NH52 is winding through western ghat hills. Although the roads to Gokarna are in good condition, it took us a lot of time to navigate the route. Because – (1) the roads are narrow (2) a lot of heavy vehicles ply on this route, they drive really slow and it is difficult to overtake them.

Overall, we started around 10:30am from our hotel in Hubli and reached Gokarna by 2:30pm in the afternoon.

Our Second Bangalore to Goa Drive Via Hubli

On our next Bangalore to Goa trip, we drove again from Bangalore to Hubli. And then drove from Hubli to Panjim. This time around we had a one week plan to work from Goa. Initially, we stayed at the Grand Leoney Resort in Vagator . And explored the Chapora Fort and few North Goa beaches from Vagator in the evening post office. Also, we visited the Wednesday Anjuna Flea Market and the Anjuna beach . And then, we shifted to Agonda Beach in South Goa for the rest couple of days of our trip to Goa this time. While returning, again we halted in Hubli for the night. And then drove from Hubli to Bangalore the next day.

Distance from Hubli to Panjim : 183.5 km via NH 67 and NH 748

Time taken for Hubli to Panjim drive : ~ 5 hrs pertaining to the ghat road

Our direct Bangalore to Goa Drive

Finally, on our third trip from Bangalore to Goa, we decided to do a direct Bangalore to Goa Drive. Since, this time around our trip was lasting only 4 nights. So, we couldn’t waste time halting in Hubli. It seemed a bit of a stretch with kids and parents tagging along. But we decided to take the plunge. We started from our home in Bangalore around 4:30am in the morning. And halted for a quick breakfast after crossing Dhavangere around 8:30 am. By 10:30 am, we had reached Hubli bypass.

Since this time, we didn’t have plans to stay in Hubli. So, we took the Hubli bypass road that connects NH48 to NH67. The 30km road on this stretch was 2 lanes only, without divider. So, it took around an hour to cover this stretch. Then we arrived on NH 67 and continued on our journey to Goa. Soon, the ghat roads started. I must say, the roads are not in excellent condition on Karnataka side. There are patches and broken stretches on the road.

But as soon as we crossed the border over to Goa, the scenario changed instantly. The roads are as smooth as they can be. And the drive from here on till Panjim is a breeze. We halted for a late lunch around 3:00pm on the last stretch of highway before Panjim. And then continued our onwards journey. Since, this time, we were staying in an airbnb in Calangute, right next to Panjim. We reached our stay by 5:30 pm in the evening. Not bad right?

So, here’s a summary of our direct Bangalore to Goa drive :

Bangalore to Goa drive distance : ~ 560km

Bangalore to Goa drive time taken : ~ 11 hours (including breakfast, lunch and few other bio breaks)

Route for the best Bangalore to Goa drive by car taken :

NH 48 = NH 67 – NH 748

Bangalore – Neelamangala – Tumukur – Chitradurga – Dhavangere – Hubli – Doodhsagar – Panjim – Calangute

I recommend this as the best route from Bangalore to Goa by car. And this Bangalore to Goa drive itinerary that we followed is an excellent one. The key is to start early from Bangalore so that we can cross the city traffic in the early morning hours. And then continue on Bangalore – Hubli highway. Since this highway is an excellent 6 lane highway, it is easy to maintain an average speed of 100 km / hr on this highway. And thus, we reach Hubli by 10:30am.

We aimed to reach early and cross Hubli early so that we could easily navigate the Hubli – Goa ghat roads in daylight. And we were successful in doing that. By 2:30pm, we had already crossed the ghats and arrived in the plains. After which, we halted for a lunch break. There are several “dhaba” style restaurants on this stretch of road. Although you will not get fancy meals here. But decent “thalis” and both North and South Indian cuisines will be available.

From here to Panjim is a beautiful drive, winding through several villages and smaller towns of Goa, through lush green ghat sections intermittently and crossing over the Mandovi river towards the end, before we enter the city of Panjim.

Return trip from Goa to Bangalore

On the day we returned from Goa to Bangalore, we again resolved to start early from Goa. Since, we wanted to arrive in Bangalore before the weekend traffic start building on the streets of the city. So, we started around 7:30am in the morning from our airbnb. And crossed the Ghat road, reaching the Karnataka – Goa border by 8:30 am. We halted right near the state border check post for breakfast. It was a very small and quiet reasonably priced hotel. We had idlis here for breakfast.

Post breakfast, around 9:15 am, we started from here. And crossed Hubli around 11:30am. There after we halted for lunch around 2:00pm at an A2B. And continued further till Bangalore. Surprisingly, we didn’t encounter much traffic in the city. And we were at home by 6:30pm. Towards the last stretch of the drive, we drove around 3.5 hours continuously without any breaks 🙂 So, we reached back from Goa to Bangalore in around 11 hours with 2 long breaks for breakfast and lunch each. This trip has enhanced our confidence to take up longer trips. This road trip from Bangalore to Goa is no doubt, one of the best road trips in India .

Good summary. So you think the road from Hubli > Ramnagara> Dodhsagar > Panjim is the best road? I am interested in a good road condition. Not the shortest by google map. These shortest routes have actually non-existant roads. You cannot call them roads. The unfortunately to reach goa is there is no good express highway either from Bangalore or Maharashtra. All roads are 2 lanes with no maintenance.

Yes, the road we took from Hubli via Doodhsagar to Goa is the best of all we have explored. Because Bangalore to Hubli is a super expressway. Hubli to Goa boarder has some patches here and there but as soon as you cross the border over to Goa, its a very smooth road. Via Karwar is another option for south Goa but that has a lot of heavy vehicles plying through the ghat road which will slow you down considerably

Are you planning a road trip this summer? A road trip from Bangalore to Goa is one for your bucket list even with the long distance and stressful driving hours. The Bangalore to Goa road trip is a scenic ride with amazing places to stop at and eat sumptuous meals.

Best Time To Visit

Goa is known for its calm and balmy weather between November and March. These are the best months to visit Goa and enjoy the gorgeous sea breeze and clear blue skies. Winter in Goa is the peak tourist season with visitors from all over the globe. Beach parties, night markets, pop up restaurants are the things to look out for during this time. If you intend to visit and spend Christmas or New Year’s, make sure you book in advance.

For those who love to be on quieter end, monsoon would be an ideal time to plan a visit. Anytime between June and September is great because the rains bring out the lush greens of the fields across the state.

There are two different route options to reach Goa from Bangalore all via NH48. The whole trip is a thrilling road journey where the highways are well maintained and fun to drive on.

• Route 1 is via NH48 which the Karwar Route. It is a scenic drive with lots of beautiful places which are worthy of a pit stop. The scenery is stunning and genuinely worthy of every stop you make and collect memories along the way on this trip.

The route takes you from Bengaluru – Nelamangala – Tumkur – Chitradurga – Sirsi – Ankola – Karwar – Panjim and it is 556 kilometres by car. The journey will take approximately 11 hours to reach your destination.

• Route 2 is also via NH48, -through the Belgaum Route. This too is a scenic drive, and your pit stops are filled with attractive, picturesque and undulating landscape.

The route takes you from Bengaluru – Nelamangala – Tumkur – Chitradurga – Hubli – Dharwad – Ramnagar – Anmod – Panjim ; it takes approximately 12 hours to reach Panjim. Here you are covering a distance of 643 kilometres.

What To Eat And Stopovers

There are exciting places to eat at along with making exhilarating stopovers which beckon you to take in mother natures in its true essence. Once you cross Yellapur, you are driving through lush green forests leading to NH66. Here you get to experience the two magnificent waterfalls the Vibhuuti and the Magod. This is also known as an express road compared to other routes. The drive from Dharwad to Goa is strikingly beautiful.

Driving all the way through Mahadayi Wild Life sanctuary, you will see several waterfalls during the monsoons. Magnificent valley views and the exceptional roads make this an enjoyable drive. Stop over at locations to enjoy the beautiful valley views. Chill at any of these places and eat the delicious southern eateries and dhabas serving food that’s delightful.

Along the way, you can make breakfast and lunch stops at these places:

• Sri Guru Kottureshwara Benne Dose Hotel – has acquired legendary status among those who drive on the highway. The restaurant is famous for its rich variety of dosas. It is approximately 4 hours and 45 minutes outside Bangalore, and is one of the best places to fill yourself with much needed food for the soul.
• Kamat Upachar, Dobaspet is about 63 kilometres outside Bangalore and is known for the local cuisines served piping hot for hungry travellers. The eatery is close to the Reliance Petrol/Diesel Pump as well. So refuelling yourself and your vehicle is ideal. The journey will take approximate 1 hour 36 minutes by road via NH75.
• Café Coffee Day, Arasikere via NH75 is approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes from Bangalore and serves hot coffee when it's most needed on a road trip. The view is scenic and fresh air will energise you for the next few hours on the road.
• Updhaya Veg, which is on the way to Chitradurga after the windmills offer a great drive for nature lovers. It is an excellent place for a stopover because it serves amazingly tasty and delightful food. Also, an ideal spot for couples to check out the scenery and capture memories.
• Sai Palace is yet another place to stopover for hearty meals for the family, especially if it is for brunch. The eatery is approximately 2 hours and 42 minutes outside of Bangalore.
• Mollem Karibu Garden Restaurant: It a great restaurant to stop for lunch, best known for its service and food. The ambience is peaceful and refreshing. A homely place on the way to Dudhsagar falls.
• Roshan Restaurant: It has a pleasant environment with homely staff with good food. They have great veg dishes and some lovely fish, served with a smile. Well worth the ten-minute walk if you're staying at the nearby Spa Resort.
• Bhalekar Hotel: If its seafood you love and relish Malwani cuisine, take a lunch break in Sawantwadi. Try their mutton or Malvani fish thali. If you are brave to adventure out and try some authentic Malvani or Konkani food, then this is the place to go. Bhalekar's is a shack so do not expect top class ambience, only great food.
• Amruth Hotel: This is a seafood speciality restaurant best suited for lunch in Karwar. Try the crab ghee roast, prawns, oysters. Fish thali is a must try along with mussel sukka, fish masala fry and anjal tawa fry.
• Swetha Lunch Home: This is an authentic seafood restaurant which specializes in Konkani cuisine. It is an unpretentious little place with the most delectable food! Try their crabs, prawns and other sea fish preparations which are perhaps the best that you will have on your road trip between Bangalore and Goa.

If you are on the Belgaum route you can stop for an early lunch in Belgaum which offers good options. Else, there are many suitable options like the Delta Eco Huts on the highway before turning to Surla falls.

Reaching There And Places To Visit

Deserving detours and pit stops -when you drive via Hubli and Karwar, starts with Chitradurga, which is a 100 kilometres on the NH48 that is known for its huge boulders and mesmerising valleys.

Here are some of the places that you should visit en-route through NH48:

• Onake Obbava : NH48 is well-known for its stone fort with seven round walls, huge grindstones and oil cauldrons amongst other things. The renowned marvel of Onake Obbava, where a soldier’s wife, all alone subjugated Mysore’s Hyder Ali’s soldiers, who furtively tried to get into the fort to attack them is something that you should check out.
• Ranebennur : Just a few kilometres from the town of Ranebennur, you come across the famous Ranebennur Blackbuck Deer Sanctuary. It was declared as a sanctuary to protect the blackbucks, and the endangered species - the Great Indian Bustard. It also has a healthy wolf population, a rare sight in India – perfect for nature lovers.
• Anshi-Dandeli Tiger Reserve : This opens between 06:00 – 18:00 hrs and is located off the NH63, and has Kali Adventure Camp, which is known for its white water rafting.
• Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary : If you have a passion for the wildlife, you will undoubtedly love the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary that opens between 07:00 – 17:30 hrs, a sight to see with gorgeous sky high tall trees. If you are a treetop watchtower, get above the watering holes and observe the flying squirrels, the slender loris and a diverse sanctuary of beautiful animals here.
• Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary & Mollem National Park : If you want to take a shorter route drive via Ponda, the gateway to Goa’s wildlife through the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park which is open between 08:00 – 17:00 hrs. It is a protected quarter because of the endemic species of flora and fauna it houses. It also has quite a lot of attractions and requires an entry permit. The Dudhsagar waterfalls, that’s renowned for trekking makes a great place to visit, and it is a part of the park. A must visit is the Butterfly Conservatory which is open between 09:00 – 16:30 hrs. The sanctuary has specific guided tours on Sundays and serves meals and a trek.

If you want to take a less travelled route try the one via Shimoga, Honnavar and Karwar. There is a lot on offer, and it will be a welcome break in the journey around Shimoga.

• Baba Budangiri range : Visit the Baba Budangiri range in the western ghats. It is a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Muslims with shrines of Sufi Saint Baba Budan, on the hill. It is a famous trail from here to Mulayangiri peak, it is also the highest in Karnataka. The route is an excellent trekking experience for adventurous people. The trek is spotted with many caves. It is apparently frequented by saints, and it’s a challenge for courageous people.
• Kemmangundi : Kemmangundi is close by a small hill station which has mesmerising ornamental gardens with a view of the hill and valley. It also has a government horticulture department project that’s a nursery.
• Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary : A must visit is the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary which opens between 06:00 – 10:00 hrs and 15:00 – 18:00 hrs, its en-route Shimoga. It has a diversity of ecotypes like the shola forests and mountain grasslands. It is also a part of Project Tiger and has about a small population of 33 magnificent tigers. Along with it are the Tunga and Bhadra rivers that pass through the sanctuary.

Driving all the way through Mahadayi Wild Life sanctuary, you will see several waterfalls during the monsoons. Magnificent valley views and the exceptional roads make this an enjoyable drive.

Places to visit after reaching goa:.

• Fort Aguada: This is well-preserved Portuguese fort located on the Sinquerim Beach in North Goa.
• Chapora Fort: Popular since the iconic scene from the film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was shot here, it stands tall at the mouth of the Chapora river like an old sentry.
• Basilica of Bom Jesus: All the churches in Goa are legacy of the Portuguese rule over the state. The most famous of them all is the Basilica of Bom Jesus which has the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier is preserved here. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
• Pandava or Arvalem Caves: This 6th cave complex is located 9kms to the south of Bicholim town in North.
• Arvalem waterfalls: Located close to the Pandava caves, this is 50 mts high waterfall with an awesome view.
• Dudhsagar Falls: This is a 4tiered waterfall and also the 4 th tallest in the country, 46kms from Madgaon.
• Ashwem Arossim Beach: For those looking for serenity in the midst of mayhem, these white sandy beaches are quiet, clean, less crowded and peaceful.
• Fontainhas: This is the old Latin quarter of Goa with narrow winding streets and flanked by brightly painted houses, located at the foothills, with the Altinho hills on the west and the Ourem creek on the East.
• Calangaute Beach: The largest beach of Goa stretching from Candolim to Baga. Calangaute, due to its massive size its popular among tourists.
• Arambol Beach: If you are looking for a pure serenity of nature, then Arambol beach is the right place you must visit whilst in Goa. Considered to one of the most spectacular beach in North Goa.

Points To Note While Planning A Trip (Car/Bike)

Its recommended that you leave early in the morning say 6 AM. It will be a smooth journey, and you will comfortably reach your destination Goa by 5 PM. Map out which route you will be taking with estimated pitstops along the way. Remember, if you are leaving at 6 AM or earlier and driving on route 1 is the ideal choice and grab a healthy and great breakfast at Upadhya restaurant on the Chitradurga bypass.

However, if you love the Davanagere Benne Dosa and you are a fan, then it's recommended driving on route 1 and grabbing a meal at Kottureshwara in Davanagere. Remember, to keep an extra one hour for food as you wait for a crisp dosa, and it takes a while for the service as dosas are meant to be eaten hot and steamy.

Diesel /Petrol Pumps

This is a frequently travelled route, so there is nothing to be worried about. If the tanks need to be refilled, you are certain to find several petrol/diesel fuel station en route.

Overnight Halts If Any

Dotted with umpteen places to stay overnight, you can choose your comfort zone and check into any of these hotels along the way: -

• Hotel Naveen : This is an excellent choice to stay for a night during the long drive to Goa, from Bangalore. The rooms are clean with all the suitable amenities. The location is excellent with a lakeside view. It is highly recommended for one night stopovers in Hubli.
• The President Hotel, Hubli : It has a restaurant called The Jungle. The restaurant has a nice ambience with the lake on one side along with the hustle and bustle of the city can be seen while you enjoy your sumptuous food. The location is exceptional, and the hotel room is clean and well decorated. The room service is quick. They also have the Gufa restaurant which is a themed restaurant-offering excellent service and delicious local food.
• Clarks Inn Airport Hotel: If you are looking for a better-serviced hotel and want your star accommodation facilities, check into the Clarks Inn Airport Hotel, located on the Gokul Road, Hubli-Dharwad, the hotel is 3 km from Topallgatti Lake, 4.7 km from Nrupatunga Betta. It has an In-house multi-cuisine restaurant. This is a 4-star hotel, situated in close vicinity to the IT Park and many tourist attractions, for example, Indira Gandhi Glass House and Moorusavir Math.

The Bangalore to Goa drive is a reasonably long drive so distance and altitude may have a difference in climate zones. Plus the journey takes you through winding forest roads. So, you should be prepared for the heat and humidity and monsoons.

Mobile Connectivity

You will not face any problems with mobile connectivity except while you are in the national parks and sanctuaries.

All major banks have ATMs available on the routes to Goa from Bangalore in the towns and cities you touch en route. But, have cash on you in order to try out local mouthwatering delights on the road.

Since it is a frequently travelled route, both the Bangalore to Goa highways have mechanics who are available if you encounter the slightest problems with the vehicle. Although a seasoned traveller would tell you to carry your own car travel kit along with a spare tyre.

Medical Facilities

Hospitals are a few in such places. There is one Government Hospital along the way on the Dharwad route, which will, of course, have to be a detour. Highway emergency services are available as well.

Electricity

Electricity is not an issue here, but as a traveller, it is recommended you are equipped with basic travel kits such as torches and flashlights. These are essential items which must be a part of your journey.

The most essential things in a travel kit are screwdrivers, a swiss knife, a crescent wrench, a first aid kit, pliers – two sets, duct tapes, scissors, air pressure gauge for tyres (these are small and handy). The spare tyre should be ready to use in case of a puncture. Of course, mechanics along the highway are known to have all the equipment needed for a repair. But, its recommended you carry these. It will suffice for a journey of 10-12 hours.

Bangalore To Goa Road Trip Experience | Our Story & Experience

Bangalore To Goa Road Trip:  Most of you would have visited Goa as a solo backpacker, couple, in the family, or with your crazy friends. How about a go Goa road trip with two men, one my brother and the other my husband? Read out my Goa road trip story!

The festival of Raksha Bandhan was about to come. I called my brother to get his new address as he had recently shifted his home in Mumbai. I thought to send Rakhi a little early so that he would get it by Raksha Bandhan.

And, he said he wanted to visit us on the festivals. After three years he was coming and that too for more than a week.

BANGALORE TO GOA ROAD TRIP

My husband and I had planned for a weekend gateway on that day only, and we had scheduled to visit Kerala. Unfortunately, Kerala had become the victim of flood this year, so we had to change our plan at the last moment. We decided to have a road trip to Goa from Bangalore.

Finally, my brother had landed at Bengaluru airport. I was so excited to meet him. After all, it had been three years. I was just wondering how less we talk these days due to our hectic and stressful schedules of work and traffic. I was so emotional to see him when we met. Next morning, we were all geared up for our road trip.

VERY EARLY START

We started around three o clock early in the morning. We stuffed our dear Sindbad (Our Honda city) with all our luggage and started driving. My husband was driving it initially, but later, it had been handed over to my brother. I slept in an hour and got up around sunrise.

We had reached to Hubli by that time which is having a breath-taking view of windmills all around. As it was a monsoon in Karnataka, it started raining also. The view was picturesque. We got down at Kamath to have our tasty breakfast and coffee and fuel for our vehicle.

WE ARE IN GOA

We reached Goa at around two o clock and stopped for our first Goan meal in the city. The food was delicious. It was a maiden trip for my Husband and my brother both as they have never visited Goa before ( I know it sounds strange but it is true ).

We had planned to stay at Morjim beach which is part of North Goa , also a nesting site for turtles. We checked in into our nice hotel or call it as 2 BHK cozy house Baywalk Morjim . It was Kind of a two BHK apartment within the hotel which I liked a lot. After taking some rest, we planned to hit the beach. The sand on the beach was blackish due to monsoon season, but it was clean. There was no trace of any plastic which is a rare view these days.

MORJIM BEACH: OUR GOA BASE

Morjim beach is less commercialized Goa beaches, and hence I strongly recommend people who want to get their mental peace far from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is an excellent rejuvenating place for them. After spending a lovely evening with the sea waves, we started looking for dinner options as we wanted to have something nearby.

WINE & DINE IN GOA

We had seen Sam Restro Bar which reaching to our hotel, and we thought to try the food there. Meanwhile, looking at my brother, I had noticed that how mature and responsible he had become. It was so unbelievable to see him acting so accountable and caring at the same time. After having our wine and dine we crashed in our room and got up in the morning. We decided to make this trip relaxing and selected only a few things to do things for our trip.

DAY2: GOAN MEAL & BEACHES

We had decided to hit one beach the next morning and wanted to relax for the entire day there. I wanted to feast on some Goan meal, but we saw a random Nepali restaurant there which was on the Baga beach, and we thought to go there.

Though my brother is a big foodie, he always resists in trying out new food items. To make him try out new things, first I had to order food items for me, and he was taking a bite from it and later when he started liking the taste, I use to pass the plate to him. I hope he got new food items in his loved list.

TRIP TO BAGA & ANJUNA BEACH

After spending the noontime at Baga beach, we thought to go to Anjuna beach for sunset. The weather was, and the cool breezes had added its flavour to the atmosphere. Google maps had given us slight wrong information about the route, so we just got down randomly and parked our car and thought to go to the beach again thru a very narrow lane. And we got surprised after checking out the view from there. I think it had just added some bonus points to our fun trip to Goa.

WITNESSED THE BEST SUNSET

We played along the beach for a more extended period, checked out the random local shops, narrow streets shops beside the beach, and we reached to the rocky part of the Anjuna beach, which is one of my favourite places in Goa. My husband and brother both just loved it as it had reminded a little part of the Mumbai and both men are so fond of Mumbai.

We witnessed the beautiful sunset, and I did some random shopping at those street shops which had made me super happy. We all three enjoyed the day to our fullest, and now it was time to go back to our rooms after having dinner. Meanwhile, on the way, we picked up some bottles of King Beer (a local brand of Goa).

BACK TO MORJIM

After having a relaxing sleep in the silent part of the Goa, we were ready for our next plan. We thought to visit a few churches and see the central part of the Goa. We went to admire the beauty of Our Lady of The Immaculate Conception Church, which is in Panjim (central Goa). I have seen the church in many Bollywood movies, but all I had a memory of having a sea by it.

DAY3: BEAUTIFULL PANJIM

When we reached the church, I saw its location in the middle of the city, and the sea was nowhere on the site near to it. I got a little disappointed when my brother had started given his cinematic gyaan (information) of how the editing happened in movies. It was scorching in comparison to previous days. We thought to have ice cream and did some random shopping for family and friends.

PIT STOP AT DONA PAULA

After completing our business there, we thought to go to Dona Paula where the shooting of Singham movie was done. I had a memory of a very crowded place, but luckily, very less crowd was there, and we were able to enjoy it properly. After clicking multiple pictures and shooting videos for our vlogs, we thought to have lunch finally.

We checked for the ratings on Zomato and reached café Azul. The restaurant was pool and sea facing which had just added more beauty to the café. Since my brother is little calorie conscious these days he just wanted to have soup. My husband had ordered biryani (which was mind-blowing), and I had ordered Pita Bread Chicken Sandwich. After completing our meal, we started for the Basilica of Bom Jesus.

OLD GOA CHURCH VISIT

It is a UNESCO world heritage site also. The basilica holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier which is very important for Christians. We admired the beauty of the church and relaxed a bit there. After that, we went to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.

It also has a beautiful museum which I had already seen earlier but that day we reached a bit late so could not visit it. The premises of this church are quite large we saw so many local people who had come to do jogging there. We sat there for a bit, discussed our day, our life in Bangalore and made some videos of the premises. We three were already tired, so we decided to go back to our rooms after having a dream and sleep to start the next day afresh.

DAY4: LAZY DAY

Next day, we all were feeling lazy and thought to do nothing. We went for some random drive inside Goa. The roads were narrow but nice. We had witnessed paddy fields, roads covered with coconut trees.

We clicked a lot of pictures and made a lot of beautiful videos. For my love of painting, I did small pieces of sketches also here and there.

The Goa look so green in monsoon compare to dry season, we felt so blessed to visit Goa in such beautiful weather. After having a lot of fun on the roads, we went to Arambol beach and just started eating and drinking.

We spent the entire day there and witnessed the sunset on Goa’s famous shack.

Though our trip was not full of things to do list, it was very relaxing. I was getting pampered head over heels as the two men whom I love most were with me, my husband and my brother.

DAY5: BACK TO BANGALORE

Next day, it was time to drive back for home. We had our breakfast, packed our bags and thought to drive back thru a different but a little longer route as we had plenty of time and we all wanted to enjoy this road trip to the fullest.

The Bangalore to Goa road trip was full of many picturesque views, smaller and longer breaks for our lunch, tea coffee.

We took Mumbai Bangalore highway and reached back to our nest around ten o clock in the night. It was a crazy and fun-filled road trip, which had given me beautiful memories of my brother and my husband.
