I'm still stuffed in a good way. Delightful young staff so willing to accommodate. The vouvray wine bubbled until the last drop. We opened with a stacked version of a caprase salad but a hundred times more splendid. A tomato compote/remoulade with a rich cow's milk cheese and a side of sorbet to cleanse the palate. Beef with fois gras was succulent. I had an amazing smoked burger that arrived in a bell jar....smoke included. Strong tasting but delicious. Burger was chopped meat grilled to perfection.

My wife and I ate at La Maison des Halles after a recommendation from our AirBnB host. The staff were accommodating to our limited French, and the services was wonderful The food was absolutely incredible, from the delicious focaccia appetizer to the delightful lemon meringue dessert.

Wonderful, simply wonderful!! The amazing waitstaff helped me pair together an amazing starter, main course and dessert and paired great wines too! I was drawn to Tours because it is suppose to be a foodies dream, La Masion des Halles, did not disappoint! Every course was beautify presented and well prepared. As recommended I ordered a pork dish as my main, it was tender, with a wonderful crust, on a bed of mashed potatoes, greens and a brown gravy. It was to die for! I could go on and on, one of my best meals in Europe after living here for over 6 years and traveling to many different areas/countries. Well worth the short walk from Place Plumereau, which is the touristy area of old town. I sat outside, on the Terrace because I had my dog with me. If I were to do it again, I would sit inside, it has a nice trendy, warm feel! Make sure you make reservations! I was there on a Tuesday evening and it was completely full. I would go back in a heartbeat!

We were looking for a nice bistro and found the perfect place. The restaurant must be very popular; people arrived shortly after it opened at 7:30 pm and filled the place up. We liked the overall ambience and vibe. The food was creative and excellent.... I started with the roasted razor clam followed by the octopus in a red wine meurette sauce, and accompanied with beet and parnip mousseline. My wife started with oxtail gyosa served with sesame vinaigrette, reminiscent of an asian flavor. Her entree was scallops served with a pumpkin mousseline. The food went really well with a bottle of sancerre. Added to our surprise, the bill was very reasonable. Similar dinner in California where we live would easily cost several times more. We love La Maison des Halles. Highly recommend it. More

Sylvester and his team provided us a memorable delicious dinner with attentive services. we order its signature appetizer, One egg. It is outstanding and mouth watering. the foie gras was tasty. we enjoyed our main dishes as well as the ingredients were fresh. meat quality... was top notch. we are going to have our lunch there tomorrow. highly recommend . We did our research before making a reservation and based on the good reviews made our reservation for my birthday celebrations. Bad luck. While our evening started pleasantly, it turned for the worse. We both ordered filet de Sandre, but the fish filet was far... from a filet. After 20+ bones in the first half of my fish I stopped eating my fish. It was a very busy night, too busy to get the attention of staff to signal what was wrong with my plate. Else they might have been able to solve the issue. Long after my husband finished his plate (also with quite a few bones but much less than mine) we finally got the attention of a waiter and showed all the bones. It was by then too late for my appetite to order a new plate and my husband already finished eating. The waiter showed my plate to the kitchen but never came back with feedback or any gesture. We were a little bit puzzled that we didn’t hear anything back. Later that night the bill was not adjusted with a compensation for the poor quality of the fish nor were we offered anything else or even an apology. Had I had known that filet at this place isn’t filet, I would have ordered something else. When we addressed the waiter with our disappointment after paying the only feedback we got was that he did come back (which was clearly not the case) and the waiter was rather rude that we just wanted a free meal and that the restaurant was simply busy. To be honest I’ve never experienced such bad customer service. A bone or 2 in a fish filet can happen, not this, but they should have properly handled the issue, not in a rude way like this. Then again, we should have known better when they just didn’t respond to our email to make a reservation and when calling responded that they never rspond to email. Knowing all this I would have chosen another restaurant to celebrate my birthday and avoid this very disappointing experience. Simply wouldn’t ever recommend people going here. More

We’re surprised by the other favourable reviews. The flavours in the dishes were all over the place. The wine was of poor quality given the restaurant’s location in the Loire Valley. I had dinner with my husband at La Maison des Halles after read several good comments in Trip Advisor. We decided for Aspargus as starter waiting for something "gourmet", but they were fried and oily. For main course I ordered a Risotto with fish of... the day, and it was regular. Risotto was not creamy and hot as it's supposed to be. Mont Blanc dessert is OK, but not delicious and surprised as the name suggests. I definetely would not come back there next time. More

Visited La Maison des Halles with a work colleague and had the most wonderful meal. We ordered a single cold meat platter entrée which proved to be the better of the two of us. Main courses are filling and great value. Great local cuisine, with... great attentive service pitched just right - not too obsequious but there when needed. If you like foie gras and/or meat this is the right to be in Tours during your trip. the menu proposes a good choice of starters, entrees and deserts. This is mainly a grill proposing mainly excellent boeuf entrees. Well cooked very testy we got... a very good dinner. The wine list proposes a good choice of vin de la loire. Chinon, bourgueil... at a good different prices. The staff is very close of, we did not way quick answering to our questions and request. The restaurant is very warn and well decorated. The restaurant is close the Les Hall building of tours which is a very crappy building. More

People make a fuss about a good steak - but this one had everything going for it. We shared the special - Cote de Boeuf - a huge slab of rib steak, aged for 50 days, perfectly charred and blackened on the outside, soft and... rare in the middle, with béarnaise on the side. It was really great. The starters were creative and interesting (a carpaccio of prawns with fish eggs, citrus and avocado ice cream, and a smoked salmon dish with beetroot on a waffle - both really good) We were too full for pudding. The staff were all welcoming and charming, and the young sommelier was informed and helpful with our choosing of wine. The place is informal and friendly, and got everything right. More

Okay, 4.5. My husband had beef that was so tender “you could cut it with a fork” and he loved it. I ordered the risotto which was good, but clearly wasn’t a rice dish—maybe Israeli couscous? Perhaps it was a language issue on my part.... Service was above average, and the wine was selected without our knowing the price—again, my bad, but it was on the high end of all the other wines we had in France. These were both minor things of which we should have been more aware. On the other hand, I had read the warnings about reservations, but chose to try to get in without them and they did accommodate us, perhaps because we were polite and nicely dressed— who knows. Four of us went here for diner. The food was good, but nothing special. The thing is that this place turned out to be the costliest place we visited while in France over 3 weeks. Five drinks, a bottle of water, starter and mains for... four, and only a couple of desserts. The bill came to around 214 Euros. A lot of places have a special price if you get a starter, main and dessert. This place didn't. They also made a big deal about ordering the dessert at the beginning of the meal or else they couldn't guarantee that it would be available if we ordered afterward (how people normally do it). We pre-ordered two and took our chances. That was sufficient. More

La Bocqueria in Barcelona is the standard against which I measure food markets, and La Maison des Halles meets this standard, without the excessive crowds. Food displays are enticing and I bought lunch from stall holders who were pleasant and welcoming.

Amazing food. Great starters and mains. From flavours to texture, everything was there. The balance of the dishes were superb. The contrast. The freshness... Café Gourmand was also a killer. This is a small restaurant with amazing food! We were a party of 5 and all were very happy with the food and the service. French food at it's best, loved it!

Located on a very nice area of Tours the menu is mainly composed of great Meat Cuts, deliciously cooked to your taste and the Foie Gras is just incredible. Great wine lost from the Loire. Worth the visit.

This restaurant changed its name a few months ago. Overall it didn’t live up to the promotional material and endorsements outside. Waiting staff were inattentive and certainly not focussed on their guests. The restaurant was not particularly busy and the 3 front of house staff... were distracted but maybe atypical couldn’t care less staff. The wine ordered was presented by two different staff, the first guy disappeared while we were waiting on him to open it. A crevette salad was adequate although it was difficult to ascertain what the base sauce was. Overall food was ok - just. More

Just across the road from the market the restaurant offers good French and European cuisine from a limited menu with an emphasis on beef. Service was prompt. Good without being outstanding.

Nice dinner; lots of locals. Our steaks were very good. They were supposed to come with Bernaise sauce, but didn't.

Easily the worst meal we have paid for on vacation. The meat was so tough that it tastes like it was frozen, poor appetizers, we could not end our meal fast enough. Go to the town square and enjoy your meal in the historic area... instead. More

I got here as some other reviewers - I arrived in Tours on Monday, and I realized nearly all restaurants are closed. So finally I went in here, and tried to have a dinner. It was a bit tricky, as I don't speak French, waiters... didn't really speak English neither had an English menu, but Google Translate helped again. I ate a risotto and a tiramisu, and both of them was suririsingly fine. Price was OK too. So travellers, don't hesitate to enter this place if you find it open :) More

This Italian restaurant has some class; I was allowed a half portion main course as a starter – linguine with prawn and 2 scallops – delicious. Good presentation. The main course of steak and chips was not such a success; my colleague and I ask... for our steaks medium well and they arrived 50% raw. Despite the steak being good quality we both left about 30%. The problem is that to reject food ruins a meal and chef must have known he’d cooked it rare. Despite the badly cooked steak I’d be willing to give them a second chance. Including a bottle of wine the bill came to 90 Euros for 2. More

Despite the name of the restaurant, the cooking could be described as modern French, with a slight Italian accent. Owners and staff are friendly and courteous. Set menus are particularly good value.

This evening we were looking for a different restaurant in the zone, but it was closed, so we decided to try this one. A lucky choice! The atmosphere is modern, the place is clean, the welcome is formal but also friendly. The child with us... received the requested pasta (with oil and parmesan) and we all ordered the evening menu (25 euros) with an entree, a plate and a dessert. The menu has 3 or 4 choices, with fish or meat. All the plates were tasteful and original. We were all satisfied, also for the quantity of food. Approved! More

We were a group of 16 celebrating the end of our trip before going home. La Trattoria des Halles was one of very few restaurant that were open Monday and accept reservations. They had interesting dishes on the menu. I had the Mini Risotto with... Foie Gras for the first course and it was delicious! The waitress, although not speaking English, tried hard to provide a good service. But with only two waitresses in the restaurant, the service was slow. It was a very hot day and the air condition had a hard time keeping up. More

Our experience was sort of awkward. The dishes were great and really tasty but the service staff was completely drunk from celebrating I don't know what... This resulted in a very mitigated experience.
