Meet the 2023 Dodge Journey

It’s the 2023 Dodge Journey, but you can’t buy it in the United States.

There is very little information available on Dodge’s web site . The Stellantis North America media site doesn’t mention it at all. But the 2023 Dodge Journey is on sale in Mexico, with over a thousand sales reported in March. There are three trim levels, SXT, Sport, and GT; the Sport raises the price to MX$667,900 and the GT to over MX$700,000. It’s not a new story, really—the ’23 follows a 2022 model.

The Dodge Journey is based on the Trumpchi GS5, a Chinese marque of GAC Group, and was part of an old FCA hookup which included GAC making Jeeps in China for local sale. Stellantis recently broke up this alliance , quite possibly making this generation Journey into an orphan.

Differences from the Trumpchi are minor, with a unique grille, LED headlights, and bigger wheels. The Journey is 1.7 meters tall, 4.7 meters long, and 1.9 meters wide—that’s 67 inches tall, 185 long, 74 wide. The front suspension uses McPherson struts; the back is a multilink design. Power comes from a  1.5 liter turbo four-cylinder engine with direct injection, good for 165 hp and around 186-195 of torque, depending on source. Like the final “true” Dodge Journey, the transmission is a six-speed automatic.

Features include forward collision alert, a 360° camera system, lane departure warning, blind spot alert, and automatic high beams. The cost is just $599,900—that is, 599,900 Mexican pesos, or around $33,250. That makes it around ⅔ the cost of the base-model Durango or Challenger.

While it is an interesting vehicle to see, chances are the Mexican Journey is a dead-end vehicle; it does raise the possibility that Peugeot will sell one of its own crossovers in Mexico under the Dodge name, which has been used to sell Fiats and Hyundais as well as this Trumpchi.

The Dodge brand is about to begin its transition towards electrification, but that doesn’t mean Mopar fans won’t be spoiled with high-performance cars and trucks in the future.

Yes, the lineup is still riddled with tried-and-true veterans, but Stellantis launched a new small crossover. In addition, the Dodge Daytona Concept debuted in August 2022 as a preview of what’s to come for the performance division of the auto giant, while the Dodge Daytona SRT Concept unveiled at the 2022 SEMA show previewed the first six of nine electric powertrain output levels, ranging from 455 to 670 horsepower, with more to come. Here’s what to expect from the Dodge brand in 2023, with models listed in alphabetical order.

Dodge Challenger

One of three of the brand’s nameplates, the Dodge Challenger is back for 2023 with minor changes. The Challenger SRT Super Stock and its 807-horsepower, supercharged 6.2L V8 engine soldiers on, while SXT, SXT AWD, GT and GT AWD trims are equipped with a more sensible 303-horsepower, 3.6L V6. The Challenger R/T is blessed with up to 375 horsepower thanks to its 5.7L HEMI V8, and the R/T Scat Pack in regular and Widebody configurations benefit from a 485-hp 6.4L V8. The SRT Hellcat and SRT Hellcat Widebody get 717 hp with the blown 6.2, while the SRT Hellcat Redeye and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody rely on 797 hp. The Jailbreak variant, which opens up full access to the brand’s personalisation options and 807 horsepower for the SRT Hellcat Redeye, is now available on the SRT Hellcat. Plum Crazy and B5 Blue paint colours are back, too.

For its final year on the market in its current form, the 2023 Challenger is also offered in limited-run variants part of Dodge’s seven “Last Call” special-edition cars . Number one is the 2023 Dodge Challenger Shakedown , which is loaded with content in addition to a Mopar Shaker hood, “392” fender and “Shakedown” spoiler graphics, 20-inch low-gloss back wheels, red six-piston Brembo brakes, Black Nappa/Alcantara seats, red interior stitching and Demonic Red seat belts. The Challenger Shakedown R/T Scat Pack is painted in Destroyer Gray, while the Challenger Shakedown R/T Scat Pack Widebody is painted in Pitch Black.

The 2023 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack Swinger is the third “Last Call” model, boasting the Widebody exterior and three paint colour choices: F8 Green, Sublime Green and Knuckle White. It’s decked out with Gold School badging, a Gold School painted Shaker intake, 20-inch Gold School alloy wheels, Retro Swinger rear fender graphics, Black six-piston Brembo brakes, wood-like interior trim, Nappa/Alcantara seats and green interior stitching.

The 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost is the sixth “Last Call” model. Based on the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody with an 807-horsepower supercharged 6.2L V8, the Black Ghost is painted in Pitch Black and sports “gator skin” graphics across its roof, white rear fender graphics, a Midnight Metallic SRT grille badge, Black six-piston Brembo brakes, Black hood pins, Alcantara/Laguna leather seats, a Dinamica suede headliner and carbon fibre interior trim bezels.

• Dodge Charger

The Dodge Charger boasts a similar trim level and powertrain lineup as the Challenger. SXT, SXT AWD, GT and GT AWD variants get the 3.6L V6 with 292 or 300 horsepower, the R/T gets the 370-hp 5.7L V8, the Scat Pack and Scat Pack Widebody get the 485-hp 6.4L V8, the SRT Hellcat Widebody gets the 717-hp supercharged 6.2L V8 and the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody rips the pavement with 797 horses.

The Jailbreak variant for the Dodge Charger is now available on the SRT Hellcat Redeye and the SRT Hellcat, which open up full access to all of the brand’s personalisation options in addition to the 807-horsepower supercharged 6.2L V8 for the Redeye. The 2023 model year also brings back the Destroyer Gray, Crazy Plum and B5 Blue paint colours.

It’s the final model year for the current-generation Dodge Charger, and it’s going out with a bang as the brand announced seven “Last Call” special-edition models, each one being produced in very limited quantities. The 2023 Dodge Charger Super Bee is the second of those seven models, available in Scat Pack trim painted in B5 Blue and in Scat Pack Widebody painted in Plum Crazy. It also features Super Bee badging and graphics, 20-inch knurled wheels or 18-inch drag wheels, an adaptive damping suspension, Black Mopar hood pins, SRT hood and exhaust tips, Red four-piston Brembo brakes and Super Bee interior trimmings.

The 2023 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack Swinger is “Last Call” model number four, sporting the Widebody and featuring one of three paint colours: F8 Green, Sublime Green or White Knuckle. The Swinger also gets Gold School and Bee badging, Retro Swinger rear fender graphics, 20-inch Gold School alloy wheels, Black six-piston Brembo brakes, woodgrain interior accenting, Nappa/Alcantara seats and green interior stitching.

The 2023 Dodge Charger King Daytona is the fifth of seven “Last Call” models. Based on the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody, it’s painted in Go Mango, it’s equipped with a the 807-horsepower V8, Satin Black King Daytona rear fender graphics, Satin Black hood and roof graphics, 20-inch Satin Carbon Warp Speed wheels, Orange six-piston Brembo brakes, Back Nappa/Alcantara “Daytona” seats, Orange interior stitching, carbon fibre interior trim bezels, an Alcantara steering wheel, a Harman Kardon sound system, a power sunroof and navigation.

• Dodge Durango

The mighty Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat was offered for the 2021 model year and then disappeared, but now it’s back for 2023, once again boasting a 710-horsepower supercharged 6.2L V8 engine. There’s also the Durango SRT 392 with its 475-horsepower 6.4L HEMI V8 and 8,700-pound towing capacity. Families not in a hurry might also like the SXT, GT and Citadel variants with a 295-hp 3.6L V6, as well as the R/T and its 360-horsepower 5.7L V8, and the latter can also be selected on the Citadel as an option. AWD is available in the U.S., standard in Canada. Aside from the return of the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, no other changes have been announced yet for 2023.

• Dodge Hornet

The Dodge Hornet is the brand’s first all-new product since, well, since the Dodge Dart sedan that was introduced for the 2013 model year and was dropped after 2016. This subcompact crossover is available in two variants, each sporting its own powertrain. The Hornet GT gets a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four with more than 265 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, managed by a nine-speed automatic transmission, while the Hornet R/T benefits from a PHEV setup with a turbo 1.3L four, an electric motor, a six-speed automatic and a 15.5 kWh battery pack, delivering more than 285 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and an EV driving range of 30 miles or 48 kilometres. A PowerShot function temporarily boosts output by 25 horsepower as well.

The 2023 Dodge Hornet also features all-wheel drive across the board, a standard 12.3-inch fully digital driver instrument cluster as well as a 10.25-inch infotainment system touchscreen using Stellantis’ Uconnect 5 interface. A 14-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, rain-sensing wipers, heated seats and steering wheel, power liftgate and a full suite of active safety features are also available. The Hornet GT arrives in late 2022 while the R/T PHEV hits dealerships in the spring of 2023.

The Dodge Journey Returns To The Mexican Market For The 2023 Model Year!

Turbocharged two-row crossover is back....

The “ Built-In Mexico” 2009 to 2020 Dodge Journey (JC) had become a family favorite crossover for Mexican families. In 2022, the Journey name returned to the Mexican market on a totally new package from Stellantis’ connections with  Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd (GAC) and their Trumpchi GS5. Instead of being the budget-minded family-oriented three-row that everyone loved, it is now a five-passenger two-row crossover.

The second-generation Dodge Journey enters the 2023 model year as one of the best-selling SUVs in Mexico. 

The Dodge design studio did a good job incorporating the new signature Dodge styling elements into the Trumpchi GS5. One of the stand-out features is just how good the Dodge-signature “bandit-style” grille looks on the GS5. The new Journey also takes advantage of the GS5’s 190 LED rear taillight bar that mimics another signature styling element – the “race-track” taillamp design. Overall, the GS5 looks much more sporty from the outside than the Mexican-built 2020 Dodge Journey that it replaces.

The cabin is extremely spacious, with the capacity to transport five passengers in comfort, as well as one of the largest cargo spaces in its category, with the possibility of configuring the 60/40 rear bench or reclining both seats leaving the floor completely flat.

The GS5 also donates an interior that utilizes better materials, with soft-touches surfaces, and attention to detail that again surpasses the 2020 model. For SXT and Sport models, there is an analog gauge cluster with a 7-inch LCD digital information screen in the center. On the top-tier GT model, that gauge cluster is replaced with a 12.3-inch LCD digital cluster allowing for a much more modern and technological look. Matter of fact, it is the first Dodge vehicle to feature such a display. 

An 8-inch central-mounted touchscreen infotainment system is standard, however, it isn’t Uconnect 5-based . Using the system straight from the GS5, the Trumpchi’s system offers Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto as standard equipment across the lineup. The system also allows for the driver to use the reversing camera with dynamic grille lines, and the support of a 360-degree surround-view camera system on Sport and GT models in HD resolution.

The center console is finished with piano black accents, while the T-shifter gear lever is wrapped in leather. The Journey center console also has controls for three different drive modes (Standard, Sport, and Comfort), an electronic parking brake, front seat heating and ventilation, stereo volume control, and menu settings for the infotainment system.

Under the hood is a standard turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine delivering 169 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. The turbo 1.5-liter features a BorgWarner low-inertia electronically controlled turbocharger and a second-generation Bosch high-pressure injection system to ensure the stability of combustion, and reduce emissions, and fuel consumption.

The turbo 1.5-liter is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin which offers quick response shifting, low fuel consumption, self-learning, and adaptive intelligent control. The Aisin unit allows the Journey to have Engine Start/Stop (ESS) and Natural Control.  

Journey’s McPherson independent front suspension and multi-link independent rear suspension ensure a soft smooth ride no matter the road condition. With a hydraulic brushing design, the front suspension lower arm can effectively suppress the shock and vibration transmitted by the road surface, implementing a shock-free driving experience. The high-clearance rear trailing arm was designed to absorb shock and helps smooth out the ride as well.

The Hornet is a new entrant in the Dodge lineup and sits below the mid-size Durango . This small SUV will compete against rivals such as the compact Kia Sportage , the Mazda CX-50 , and the Volkswagen Tiguan .

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2023 Dodge Hornet starts at $32,330 and goes up to $37,330 depending on the trim and options.

Dodge is offering the Hornet only in GT guise for the 2023 model year but in base and GT Plus trims. The base GT comes with plenty of desirable standard features, including a large 10.3-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 17-inch aluminum wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and dual-zone automatic climate control. We would splurge on the Cold Weather Group package, which adds heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start, but if you live in the sunbelt you can probably skip that and save the money.

Hornet GT models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 268 horsepower and comes paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. During our initial test drive , we found the Hornet GT to be fairly perky, and its turbocharged powertrain motivated the Hornet to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds at our test track. The plug-in hybrid R/T model features slightly more power and an EV driving mode that should make it slightly quicker, but buyers will have to wait for the 2024 model year to take one of those home. Around town, the Hornet feels sprightly. Handling is confident and approaches sporty, but it's neither as athletic nor as satisfying as what you'll find in rivals from Mazda or Volkswagen.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA estimates that the Hornet GT is good for 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route, our Hornet GT Plus test vehicle returned 28 mpg. For more information about the Hornet's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website .

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Hornet's cabin is just as roomy as the Tonale's, which means it's spacious for front-seat riders but tight for those in the back. Interior styling is similar to the Tonale's too, with the primary controls and infotainment system slightly canted toward the driver and a tall shift lever for the automatic transmission positioned on the center console. The Hornet also uses the same steering wheel as the Alfa Romeo, albeit with a Dodge logo in the center, which features an integrated ignition switch beneath the left spoke. Black upholstery with red stitching is standard but the GT Plus trim comes with leather; those ordered with the optional Track package get faux-suede. An optional red leather interior option is also available.

Infotainment and Connectivity

All models come with a 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge display. The software interface is the latest Uconnect 5 system which is in use on other Stellantis models such as the Chrysler Pacifica minivan and the Ram 1500 pickup truck. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features, as is Amazon Alexa connectivity. Upgrading to the GT Plus swaps in a 14-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo for the standard system and adds a wireless smartphone charging pad.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

A host of driver-assistance features are standard on the Hornet, including automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection. All models also come with blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors. The optional Tech package adds adaptive cruise control with lane centering, among other features. Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

Moscow Metro map

Over the past few years, the Moscow Metro has grown significantly. In the coming years, it will to grow even bigger. The new version of the map incorporates changes and plans until 2030:

In the center, the stage has been set for the future linking of the lines 8 and D5:

Despite the monumental changes, the map retains its signature radial-circular geometry and is instantly identifiable as a Moscow map:

Diameters are the new high-frequency commuter trains integrated into the Metro network. The official map shows them as equal to the Metro thus greatly complicating the perception of the system. On our map, the diameters are shown in a separate visual layer. Thanks to their own graphic style, they stand out and don’t blend in with the Metro:

The lines of diameters are even allowed to have gaps in order not to get in the way. The eye easily follows the interrupted line:

One of the difficulties with diameters is the display of Komsomolskaya Square, informally known as “The Square of Three Rail Terminals”. Two metro lines and three diameters intersect here. You need to label the three rail terminals themselves and the separate station “Square of Three Rail Terminals” (renamed from “Kalanchovskaya”). Attempts to honestly depict which of the diameters passes through which terminal or station turns this hub into a mess.

Passengers just need to know that trains pass through here, and then use the on-site signage to change trains:

Another feature of the diameters is suburban fare zone. The modest designation ₽₽ is localized on the diameter lines and does not complicate the map as a whole:
