I’m excited to see Mudvayne, and All That Remains. Join us as we DESTROY ALL ENEMIES.”

The North American jaunt comes on the heels of a highly anticipated and successful stint in Latin America wrapping this month and starting back up in Europe this summer. With stops in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and México and forthcoming dates in Sweden, Italy, France, Germany and more, the band’s global appeal and lasting impact is more apparent than ever as continued calls for international touring are demanded.

Finnish guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari joined MEGADETH last September after the band's longtime axeman Kiko Loureiro , announced earlier that month that he would sit out the next leg of MEGADETH 's "Crush The World" tour in order to stay home with his children back in Finland. It was later revealed that Mäntysaari would continue to play guitar for MEGADETH for the foreseeable future, with Loureiro seemingly having no plans to return.

The 37-year-old Mäntysaari was born in Tampere, Finland and began playing guitar at the age of 12. In 2004, he joined the band WINTERSUN . He has also been a member of SMACKBOUND since 2015.

MEGADETH played its first concert with Mäntysaari on September 6, 2023 at Revel in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Loureiro officially joined MEGADETH in April 2015, about five months after Chris Broderick 's exit from the group.

Since its inception in 1983, MEGADETH has ascended from its raw thrash metal roots to become an unstoppable force in the heavy metal world. With founder Dave Mustaine at the helm, MEGADETH 's journey has been marked by a penchant for pushing the boundaries of speed, technicality, and complexity in their music. Their groundbreaking album "Rust In Peace" , released in 1990, is frequently cited as a seminal work in the thrash metal genre. Along with the critically acclaimed "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?" , it cemented MEGADETH 's place in the annals of metal history.

Over four decades, the band's discography has earned numerous certifications, including platinum and multi-platinum awards, with albums like "Countdown To Extinction" and "Youthanasia" achieving widespread critical acclaim. 2016's "Dystopia" not only marked a high point with their first Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance" after twelve nominations but also set the stage for their latest triumph, "The Sick, The Dying... And The Dead!" in 2022. MEGADETH 's status as part of the "Big Four" of thrash metal underscores their trailblazing role in the genre, laying the groundwork for countless bands and musicians who have followed in their wake.

Megadeth Launch 2022 Tour: Set List, Videos

Megadeth launched their 2022 tour with a performance April 9 at the Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

The metal giants began their set with an emphatic rendition of “Hangar 18,” the classic track from their 1990 album Rust in Peace . From there, the group blazed through “Dread and the Fugitive Mind” and “Sweating Bullets.”

Watch Megadeth Open Their Show With 'Hangar 18'

At this point, frontman Dave Mustaine addressed the crowd for the first time, thanking fans for coming out while also heaping praise on their tourmates Lamb of God , Trivium and In Flames . Mustaine then told the crowd how much he’s been “looking forward to getting back on tour and playing for you guys. I hope you’re as happy as I am right not, because I could fuckin’ play all night but they won’t let us.”

Further highlights included such metal classics as “Trust” and “Symphony of Destruction.” Full set list and videos from the performance can be found below.

This marked the first 2022 date of the Metal Tour of the Year, a trek Megadeth began last year with an initial trek that ran from August through the end of September. Those 2021 dates were the first Megadeth performed following the dismissal of bassist and co-founder, David Ellefson. James LoMenzo, who filled in for Ellefson on last year’s tour, is continuing with the band for their 2022 run.

Recent tour reviews

An awesome show that reminded me of the reasons why I love Megadeth. My son was so happy that I took him along too, he said it was the best experience ever and that he now understood what it was like to at 80’s metal music gig. We both can’t wait to see them again. Hope they do their own tour soon.

AMAZING!!! I had the best time, I just wish I had the money to meet the band. I did get to meet the Drummer from the first band. He was bad ass! Really nice, I just can read their name.

This was the 3rd time seeing Megadeth, second time at the Revention Center. Awsome venue and just the right size. Thankful I was able to get to the front and your security was awesome. They bring you fresh water!

Amazing night!!

What can I say...I was at a sold out 1,600 person venue with Megadeth literally feet away from me. It was more than awesome. The guitar playing was amazing (from lead, rhythm and bass) and drummer did a solid job. Ellefson was really into it (considering he grew up near here) and Mustaine sounded great and seemed to enjoy it. Highly recommend for anyone with remote interest.

Megadeth, Lamb of God, Trivium + In Flames Announce 2022 Leg of ‘Metal Tour of the Year’

The "Metal Tour of the Year" is back for a second time with a U.S. leg booked for the spring with co-headliners Megadeth and Lamb of God alongside special guests Trivium and In Flames .

The inaugural leg was originally set for 2020, but the pandemic forced a postponement until 2021 and the run finally got underway last summer, although Hatebreed were tabbed as the opener after In Flames announced they would not be able to make it.

Now, the original "Metal Tour of the Year" lineup will band together for a 23-date jaunt that will begin on April 9 in Las Vegas and wrap up on May 15 in Allentown, Pennsylvania after criss-crossing the country.

View the complete list of tour dates at the bottom of the page and look for tickets and VIP packages to go on sale on Jan. 14 at 10AM local time at this website .

“The 'Metal Tour of The Year' is exactly what it sounds like – a night of some of the best heavy metal bands in the world – live and loud. Anyone who came to a show last year knows what I mean, only this one’s going be even better. Do not miss out," commented Dave Mustaine in what will be a banner 2022 for Megadeth as their long-awaited new album is expected to be released at some point this year.

Lamb of God's Randy Blythe exclaimed, "It was great to get out on the road for an incredible tour last summer with Megadeth, Trivium and Hatebreed so we figured we'd do it again! We look forward to hitting new cities with Megadeth, Trivium and In Flames, who we're happy to have over for leg two!"

“The Metal Tour of The Year was one of the strongest, most incredible Metal tours in ages - it’s namesake nothing but accurate," added Trivium's Matt Heafy . "How do you follow that up? By doing it again - even bigger, even better, and have it play everywhere it didn’t on the first leg. MTOTYII - let’s do this."

”We are excited to finally be able to join our dear friends in Megadeth, Lamb of God, and Trivium on this year’s Metal Tour of The Year! We can’t wait to be back on the road in America and to reunite with you all. Don’t miss this tour it’s a juggernaut," exclaimed In Flames frontman Anders Fridén .

“It’s never a closed chapter. I helped start the band.” David Ellefson doesn’t rule out Megadeth return

Ellefson was dismissed from Megadeth in 2021 following a sex scandal, but seems open to rejoining the thrash icons

David Ellefson

Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has hinted he’s open to rejoining the band.

Ellefson co-founded Megadeth with singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine in 1984. He was dismissed from the venerated thrash band in 2021, following explicit video of him interacting with a fan getting leaked online. Three years later, though, Ellefson has said his time in Megadeth “is never a closed chapter”.

“Look, I helped start the band,” Ellefson tells El Planeta Del Rock (via Blabbermouth ). “I was there from the beginning. My heart and soul was in it. You'll hear that in those songs forever. And, look, that way of life, our lifestyle, our work ethic has influenced me forever. It’s part of how I still roll now moving forward. So, you can't just take that piece of your life and just pull it out and stick it on the shelf. It's part of me. I’m always part of that.”

Ellefson continues by saying that, though he and Megadeth are currently “not sharing the stage together” and “it wasn’t my idea to not be there”, his outlook on a return is, “Maybe another time.”

Ellefson shed more light on the circumstances around his Megadeth exit in an exclusive Metal Hammer interview this February. “There’s two sides to it,” the bassist said of his sex scandal. “One: when you bare it all, you’ve got nothing to hide. Fuck it, now you can truly be yourself! We all come into the world with our birthday suit on, so what are we ashamed of?

“What I feel the worst about is the embarrassment that it caused some people, like my family, who didn’t deserve it. Out of respect for them, I’m going to keep the family dynamic off the table [during interviews]. That’s at their request.”

Since his Megadeth dismissal, Ellefson has started performing in the death metal band Dieth, hard rockers The Lucid and thrashers Kings Of Thrash. He continues to play with metal supergroup Metal Allegiance, with whom he’s performed since 2014.

Louder’s resident Gojira obsessive was still at uni when he joined the team in 2017. Since then, Matt’s become a regular in Prog and Metal Hammer, at his happiest when interviewing the most forward-thinking artists heavy music can muster. He’s got bylines in The Guardian, The Telegraph, NME, Guitar and many others, too. When he’s not writing, you’ll probably find him skydiving, scuba diving or coasteering.

“The crowd was booing us and spitting on us, the entire set”: Trivium’s Matt Heafy remembers being bullied by his heavy metal idols

“Over the years I’ve realized I thrive most when I’m actively working with my bandmates behind the scenes”: Linkin Park’s Brad Delson steps back from live lineup

“I didn’t want James Hetfield to smell the alcohol on me”: Robert Trujillo stayed up drinking until 5am before his Metallica audition
