Yeah Yeah Yeahs Karen O

Early 21 st century New York rockers the Yeah Yeah Yeahs — singer Karen O , guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase — have announced new music and tour dates in the summer and fall. The group, which recently signed with indie powerhouse Secretly Canadian, say they will have new music in the fall.

The group will play a brace of dates in Europe and Australia in the summer before hitting North America, with dates at New York’s Forest Hills Stadium and the Hollywood Bowl in October, where they will be joined by high school punk rockers the Linda Lindas on both dates and (in Los Angeles) by Japanese Breakfast. It seems likely more dates will be added.

YYY US DATES!  It's with true life affirming pleasure to announce our two headline shows in our two hometowns NYC AND LA! pic.twitter.com/PQehIatfdV — Yeah Yeah Yeahs (@YYYs) May 2, 2022

Tickets go on sale Friday, May 6 at 10 a.m. local time.

“It’s with true life affirming pleasure to announce our two headline shows in our two hometowns NYC AND LA supported by two wildly gifted bands Japanese Breakfast and The Linda Lindas at the Hollywood Bowl, with The Linda Lindas supporting in Forest Hills and our other support TBA soon! Representin’ a few generations yo! Cannot wait to see you there!  New music! New Era! And New Home with Secretly Canadian ! Much to celebrate!“ says Karen O.

The group teased the appearances on social media hours on Sunday, before the announcement was made Monday morning.

Formed in 2000, the group was one of the leading lights of the turn-of-the-century New York City rock scene that also included the Strokes, Interpol, LCD Soundsystem, TV on the Radio, the National, Liars, the Rapture and many others. Their unusually spare lineup created a very full sound, dominated by O’s shape-shifting vocals and wild stage presence, Zinner’s effects-laden guitar and Chase’s propulsive drumming; their self-titled debut EP displayed an unexpectedly versatile sound and, in “Our Time,” an anthem for the burgeoning NYC rock scene of the era, which has since been documented in the Lizzy Goodman’s “Meet Me in the Bathroom” memoir and film.

The group signed with the formidable major label Interscope in 2002 and released their debut full-length, “Fever to Tell,” the following year, which spawned the alternative hit “Maps” and launched Karen as a major media figure. An equally strong sophomore effort, “Show Your Bones,” followed three years later and the more electronic-based “It’s Blitz!” three years after that, and the group finished out the decade as a major festival headliner and one of the biggest alternative groups in the business, outlasting the impact of most of their contemporaries. However, they embarked on solo projects and reunited for a final Interscope album, “Mosquito,” in 2011, which finished out their contract with the label. All three were musically active throughout the 2010s, Zinner with production work most prominently with Karen’s 2019 excellent “Lux Prima” collaboration with songwriter-producer Danger Mouse, which sonically recalled ’60s artists like John Barry and Serge Gainsbourg and showed yet another side of her musical talent.

Karen O performs with the microphone in her mouth.

It’s been nearly ten years since the Yeah Yeah Yeahs last officially toured North America.

Now, a decade later, Karen O and co. are back on the road for a short 13-concert and festival nationwide trek .

From May 3 through June 10, the beloved indie group will hit major venues all over the U.S. in support of their 2022 album “Cool It Down.”

And they still have cool kid street cred as evidenced by their hip opening acts Perfume Genius and The Faint.

The best part of all though is that some tickets are ridiculously cheap .

In fact, at the time of publication, we found some seats going for as low as $16 before fees on Vivid Seats.

That’s less than the sweet band tee you’ll buy at the merch stand.

To top it all off, they’ll be appearing at a handful of truly exciting festivals as well including the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, GA on May 5, Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City, UT on May 12, Los Angeles’ Just Like Heaven Festival on May 13 and Boston’s Boston Calling on May 26-28.

Want to hear “Maps,” “Gold Lion,” “Heads Will Roll,” “Y Control” and the hot new single “Spitting Off The Edge Of The World” live?

Here’s everything you need to know and more.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar including all tour and festival dates, venues and links to the cheapest tickets available can be found below.

•The festival prices are for multi-day passes when the festival calls for it.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs festival appearances

As noted earlier, Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase have a trio of festival appearances lined up later this year.

Here’s who’s headlining alongside them this May.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs new music

The group’s 2022 “Cool It Down” is eight tracks of exquisitely-crafted rock and roll.

Both lush and heavy, airy and meaningful, the record is a true balancing act of magnificent contradictions.

We recommend starting with the hypnotic opening track “Spitting Off The Edge Of The World” and then try the ethereal, erotic “Lovebomb” and finally the urgent, almost Motown-inspired “Burning.”

Really you can’t go wrong with any song on the album though.

You can listen to all 32 minutes and 28 seconds of “Cool It Down” here .

Huge indie tours in 2023

“Huge” and “indie” might sound like an oxymoron but we think these five mega tours qualify.

Check them out below.

• Death Cab For Cutie with The Postal Service

•  Weezer with Modest Mouse, Spoon, Future Islands and more on select dates

•  Beck with Phoenix

•  Pixies with Modest Mouse

•  The National

•  The Smile

•  Arctic Monkeys

Plus,  LCD Soundsystem, boygenius and Steve Lacy  are conducting a nationwide festival tour that you may want to keep an eye on as well.

Still want more? We knew you would.

If that’s the case, check out our list of the  52 biggest concert tours in 2023 here .

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Unveil 2023 Tour Dates

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The post Yeah Yeah Yeahs Unveil 2023 Tour Dates appeared first on Consequence .

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have unveiled a run of Summer 2023 tour dates with support from The Faint  and  Perfume Genius . To mark the occasion, the band has also shared a new music video for “Blacktop.”

The summer trek comes in support of YYYs excellent new LP  Cool It Down ,  which was one of our  favorite albums of 2022 . Yeah Yeah Yeahs will return to the road May 3rd in Washington DC, taking in cities such as Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, London, Paris, and Berlin, as well as festivals Shaky Knees and Boston Calling . The Faint will join them for a couple of dates in the American south, while Perfume Genius joins the jaunt for a June run from the midwest to the west coast.

Check out the full itinerary after the jump. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 10th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster , with a Live Nation pre-sale beginning Wednesday, February 8th (use code CHORUS ). Alternatively, tickets are available via  Stubhub .

As for the new  1970s-inspired video for “Blacktop,” it was directed by David Black and shows lead singer Karen O performing in close up with the aid of a few seemingly low-tech psychedelic effects.

“‘Blacktop’ stuck out to me early on, the demo was very stripped down instrumentally and emotionally. It was a step towards what radical closeness feels like after a long separation,” Karen O said in a statement. “Each record has one of these diamonds in the rough that just feels like flying to me. It felt right to keep the video as stripped down and dare I say beautiful in its naïveté. David Black put us in front of his 70s analog video camera with the intention to pull stills for band shots. He had me sing to ‘Blacktop’ before I had even memorized the lyrics, I thought I knew the song by heart but it felt like an introduction, like meeting it for the first time. It wasn’t intended to end up as a video and as a return to the earliest visuals from the record it completes a circle, we’re so happy we have it, a simple layered performance for a deceptively simple song. We hope you enjoy.” Watch that video below.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs announce 2023 tour

The news comes with a video for their cool it down cut “blacktop.”.

yeah the tour

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have announce their 2023 performance dates. They’ll tour the United States in the spring, playing 13 shows in May and early June with alternating support from The Faint and Perfume Genius , and play four European shows in late August, with a set at Yuzawa, Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival the final weekend of July.

Alongside today’s news, the band has released visuals for “Blacktop,” a track from 2022’s Cool It Down , their first new album in nearly a decade. Directed by David Black , the video is a simple concept, overlaying grainy footage of YYY frontwoman Karen O to create a pleasant, retrofuturist effect.

I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival in Camber Sands in 2006. At the time I didn’t know much of their music, but was interested in them enough to check them out. I’ve tried to see them again a couple of times since then, but tickets for their shows always seem to sell out really fast so I realised now how lucky I was to see them when I did! If I remember rightly, they actually curated that festival, and their choice of line-up was excellent too. Although the gig in question was several years ago now, I remember their performance was really tight and Karon O in particular has a very commanding stage presence and an incredible voice. There were no “gimmicks” in the show – no back-projected films or glitter balls or confetti, or any of that stuff – just the band, standing up there, doing their thing. And they do it very, very well indeed. Even as someone who was not particularly familiar with their songs, I thoroughly enjoyed their set, and although I wouldn’t describe myself as a big fan, I’d definitely love to see them again, and have bought all 4 albums they have released to date.

So if you’re thinking about going to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, don’t hold back. Go and see them the first chance you get!

I've always enjoyed a little bit of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but till I saw them live; I don't believe I knew the true meaning of falling in love with a band, or the true extent of my capacity to have a full on lady-crush. Karen O's stage presence is beyond electric, and she commands deep respect and awe the moment she steps on to the stage. The set they played was very carefully crafted, and they took the crowd through the classics dotted with a couple of the more recent tracks very subtly weaved in, so as to make sure the beat was always up, and the crowd was buzzing. Everyone went wild for most songs anyway, which for someone like myself (who was well acquainted with their older stuff but not so much their newer work) was a definite positive. Yeah Yeah Yeah's are a truly amazing and inspirational band, and I can't wait to see them live again soon... this time though, I will know every lyric to every track and I will belt along with the rest of their super-fans!

Every howl, yelp, screech was delivered perfectly and flawlessly by Karen O.

Perfect show, they played all their classic songs, and it sounded just like the albums. Plus the band kept playing from one song to the next without stopping. Everything about this show was pure raw energy and awesomeness.

Definitely would recommend and I am definitely going again.

Absolutely fantastic. I travelled from Denver to see them. Great venue. Great setlist and order. Awesome finale. The huge confetti guns were out of this world. Love you Karen. Keep rocking. Can't wait for the next tour. Come to Denver and play Red Rocks.

It could only be called alchemy, the transformative magic that happens during the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ most tuned-in moments in the studio, when their unique chemistry sparks open a portal, and out comes a song like “Maps” or “Zero” or the latest addition to their canon, “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” — an epic shot-to-the-heart of pure YYYs beauty and power. “It’s really awe-inspiring to watch the process of Karen’s melodies and lyrics just coming to her, right there,” says guitarist Nick Zinner. “Like, ‘what the fuck, where did that come from?’ When it strikes her, it’s the most incredible thing.”

“The look on Nick’s face when that happens,” Karen O says, with a laugh, “it’s primo, man. I know I’m onto something because I can tell it’s hitting him somewhere in his soul. We’ve been doing this together so long, and there are moments when the song comes from God-knows-where, and it feels like there’s a change in the air quality, in the atmosphere, like when it’s about to thunderstorm.”

A thunderstorm of a return is what the legendary trio has in store for us on Cool It Down, their fifth studio album and their first since 2013’s Mosquito. The eight-track collection, bound to be a landmark in their catalog, is an expert distillation of their best gifts that impels you to move, and cry, and listen closely.

They never expected it to be so long between albums, and they certainly had stayed busy: There was a tour for their 2003 debut album, Fever to Tell that was re-issued in 2017; Karen released an album with Danger Mouse (Lux Prima, 2019) and co-composed the score for the animated film Where Is Anne Frank?; Nick made an album with his hardcore side-project Head Wound City, scored films, and collaborated with artists including Phoebe Bridgers, Amen Dunes and Songhoy Blues; drummer Brian Chase started his own label Chaiken Records. Karen and Brian both became parents in recent years.

The band had even begun talking about new music back in early 2020, but then the world stopped. “I was having dreams, as I’m sure many people were during the early part of the pandemic and lockdown, of places I’d been,” Karen says. “Dreams of cities we’ve toured in the last twenty years together, whether it’s Byron Bay or Paris morphed with Mexico — my brain was taking me to all these places. And I felt, for the first time, ‘what if we don’t get to do it again?’ That thought had never crossed my mind before and I really felt it profoundly during the pandemic: I realized I’d taken for granted that we’ll always be able to go out on the road and play shows, that we’ll always be able to make more music when we want to. And having gone through the collective trauma of what we experienced, I really wanted to get in a room together and jam, and see what our subconscious was going to unleash after all that time.”

She and Nick got together in spring of 2021 to give it a try. “We started playing music and it just came flooding out of us,” Karen remembers. They began in April and were basically done by August – “the quickest a record has ever come to us.”

“Flooding is a very apt word,” says Nick. “I think all of us needed this release. For me, in 2020, I could not do anything. I tried working every day, and nothing came. It was completely frozen. I spent the month of March 2021 trying to get back into creating and making what I thought could be little starter ideas, just to define some of the elements.” They made demos at Nick’s place in Los Angeles and carved out time with producers they knew would elevate the tracks, including Justin Raisen, Andrew Wyatt and longtime collaborator Dave Sitek. who has contributed to every Yeah Yeah Yeahs album since Fever To Tell and whom the band consider “basically a fourth member of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, at this point.”

Early on, Sitek shared a folder of song-beginnings that included the framework for “Spitting Off the Edge of the World,” and Karen connected with it right away. “When I heard the opening line, it felt like a waterfall,” she says. “[David] Bowie came to mind immediately. Sitek was actually friends with Bowie, and it felt like he was tuning into that frequency of artistry. And so when I was writing the lyrics and the melody, that’s who I was trying to tune into, as well. Because I’ve never tried to evoke Bowie before. But he’s gone now, and there’s a big, gaping hole.” And when she imagined another voice joining hers on the tune, the idea to invite Perfume Genius’s Mike Hadreas felt obvious. “Mike really has a bit of Bowie in him,” she says. “He was literally the first and only person that came to mind for it.”

Karen explains that the lyrics for “Spitting…” (as well as other songs on Cool It Down) reflect on the state of the environment, and the need for honesty about the damage we’re doing to the Earth. “We’re all experiencing this climate crisis through a system which is broken and not really addressing it,” she says. On “Spitting…,” she reframes the topic as a personal conversation with her son about the world he’s inheriting. “I see the younger generations staring down this threat, and they’re standing on the edge of a precipice, confronting what’s coming with anger and defiance,” she says. “It’s galvanizing, and there’s hope there.”

Nick had sent Karen the initial idea for “Burning,” and when they got into the studio, he says, “she had zoomed in on this one 15-second part and was like, ‘what if we speed this up?’ That became the piano loop in the song, but it was just the beginning.” As they continued working in Nick’s basement studio, they had another of those otherworldly moments when the words and melody thunderstormed in. “The first verse just came,” says Nick. “I watched it enter her, like she was downloading it from somewhere. I get shivers just thinking about it. It was absolutely incredible and the first part of that song came together in like half an hour.”

“I didn’t want to hit the nail directly on the head, but it feels like at this point, we should just be screaming certain things,” says Karen. “In LA, 2020 was one of the worst years for wildfires. And that hook — ‘into the sea, out of the fire’ — just came right through me.” Melodically, she says they were inspired enough by the Four Seasons’ classic “Beggin’” that its writers are credited on the track. “Nick and I have loved that song forever, and played it at every house party DJ set we’ve ever done together,” Karen says, “so it’s in our bones, to a certain degree.”

And that’s not the only track where they embraced the opportunity to honor their influences. The Justin Raisen-produced “Fleez” references the pioneering New York City art-funk band ESG, whose early 80s singles are among the most frequently sampled tracks in modern music history, period. “Fleez” incorporates elements from the 1981 ESG song “Moody (Spaced Out)”, and includes writing credit for the band’s Renee Scroggins. Karen says ESG have been a massive inspiration to her, ever since discovering their music via the 2000 compilation A South Bronx Story. “Hearing that changed my life when I was 22,” Karen says. “The style and attitude and power and sexuality — all of it. So we didn’t shy away from leaning into that. Just like with ‘Burning”, at this point in our career, we want to pay homage to the music that left a deep impression on us.”

Whereas anthemic, dancefloor-bound tracks like “Burning” and “Wolf” and “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” could be seen as big, bold rallying cries to a new collective consciousness, there are also songs like “Blacktop” and “Mars” whose delivery is so intimate, it’s as though Karen O is whispering them to you alone. “After a time of being apart so much, I wanted a kind of radical closeness, like feeling someone’s breath on my face,” she says. “Mars” is also one of a few instances where Karen’s vocals are spoken rather than sung, which she’d never before attempted. “I did an interview with Michelle Zauner from Japanese Breakfast and she asked, ‘Have you ever thought about writing poetry?’ It was like, ‘Yeah, I’ve thought about it this whole time.’ So I started writing, and ‘Mars’ was probably the first poem I had written since high school. It was scary at first to read it as a poem, but it really resonated with the soul of the record. And it’s an amazing thing to feel vulnerable this late in your career, and to try things that make you feel totally like a beginner again.”

Though the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were only able to be physically together in the studio for four glorious days at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, that just highlighted the preciousness of time, and reaffirmed their resolve not to take anything for granted. “Music has been a lifeline for me and Nick and Brian over the last 21 years, as it is for so many people.” says Karen O. “It’s a safe haven for big emotions. For a lot of the songs on this record, we’re giving voice to the feelings I want to hear reflected back to me in music. It’s confrontational, and it’s emotional, and it’s addressing things that nobody wants to look at. As an artist, there’s a responsibility to do that. I know when I feel that reflected back to me, I’m so grateful, because it makes me feel less crazy and less alone in the world. That’s where music reigns. This record was a chance for us to use that superpower. This record feels like it has a different kind of urgency.”

Iga Swiatek tasks her agent with procuring Taylor Swift's Eras Tour tickets amid Madrid Open, playfully tries to keep date of 'perfect' show a secret

I ga Swiatek tasked her agent with procuring Taylor Swift's Eras Tour tickets amid the 2024 Madrid Open. She also playfully tried to keep the date of the show a secret.

Swiatek has been wreaking havoc at the Madrid Open decimating opponent after opponent. Her latest victim was Beatriz Haddad Maia who won the opening set but went on to lose the match 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

During a press conference in Madrid, the 22-year-old was asked about an update on the Taylor Swift tickets. Swiatek , who is a huge 'Swiftie' ( a term used for Swift's fans), hilariously told the reporter to ask her manager Jules, an IMG agent, as he should be the one to get the tickets but later said there was one show in accordance with her schedule but it was sold out

"Taylor Swift? Ask Jules, he's IMG agent, so he should get it. No, but it's hard with the schedule. I think there's one show that is going to be perfect but I think the tickets are already sold out."

After realizing that the show wasn't sold out, Swiatek asked her manager what the problem was, giving him subtle hints to buy the tickets.

"Not yet? So I can just buy them? Well, then what's the problem? (Laughs) Okay, I'll get to it. Honestly, I didn't check before, so thanks for the reminder."

After the four-time Grand Slam champion was asked which show she was referring to, her manager responded with the show which Swiatek asked the reporters to keep a secret.

"Sorry? Which one was that? Yeah, So. Don't tell anybody (with a finger on her lips). Yeah, thanks."

"We know how it can be in Poland, yeah, for me. I'll probably go somewhere else" - Iga Swiatek on watching the Eras Tour in 2024

During her pre-event press conference at the 2024 Australian Open, Iga Swiatek said that though she wanted to go for the Eras Tour, she wasn't keen on doing it in Poland as she would feel all eyes on her rather than Taylor due to the Pole's popularity.

"I will. It will be tough. Not to get tickets obviously, but be there and not have a feeling that everybody is watching. Obviously they're going to be watching Taylor, not me. We know how it can be in Poland, yeah, for me. I'll probably go somewhere else," Iga Swiatek said. (at 8:42)

She also said that she hadn't bought any tickets yet and that her manager Jules now had the tough task of acquiring them.

"Not really [in disguise]. If Jules gets my tickets. I haven't bought anything. It's probably all sold out. He has a tough task. Yeah, exactly," she added.

Iga Swiatek will face Madison Keys in the semifinals of the Madrid Open with the hope of reaching a second consecutive final at the tournament. The two will lock horns for the fourth time, with their head-to-head currently being 2-1 in favor of the Pole.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse scaled heights of ragged glory in transcendent Phoenix concert

yeah the tour

Neil Young didn't waste any time getting into the epic guitar jams Saturday, April 27, at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre, taking the stage with Crazy Horse to set the tone for his first Phoenix concert since 2003 with the fuzz-guitar transcendence of "Cortez the Killer," a speaker-shredding meditation that made it past the 15-minute mark, just long enough to leave you wishing it had gone another 15 minutes.

They were six minutes deep before the singing started. And they dusted off the missing verse Young recently unearthed that didn't make it onto "Zuma" because the console in the studio lost power in the midst of recording an otherwise perfect take.

“I floated on the water,” Young sang nearly 50 years later in Phoenix. “I ate that ocean wave/ Two weeks after the slaughter/ I was living in a cave/ Came too late to get me/ There’s no one here to set me free/ From this rocky grave/ To that snow-capped ocean wave.”

Neil Young and Crazy Horse treat Phoenix to elevating guitar jams

It was a glorious start to a brilliant performance, from the cavernous majesty of his guitar tone to the weathered ache of his lead vocal as the members of Crazy Horse effortlessly lived up to the reputation that led him to title a 1990 album "Ragged Glory," played out in front of the oversized fake Fender amps and road cases they used on the Rust Never Sleeps Tour in the '70s.

This is Young's first major tour with Crazy Horse in 10 years and they're only three shows in, so we may have lucked into a concert that was even looser-limbed than usual. Songs were falling together like magic in slow pursuit of something more elusive than perfection.

It's been 55 years since Young and Crazy Horse spent two weeks in the studio bottling lightning on "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere," a masterpiece that featured heavily in Saturday's performance, from the proto-punk riffing of "Cinnamon Girl" to a sprawling rendition of "Down By the River," "The Losing End (When You're On)" and the country-rocking title track.

It's actually kind of amazing that two of the three original members of Crazy Horse — bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina — are still out there touring with Young after 55 years. They're joined by Micah Nelson, Willie's son, on this tour. The 33-year-old is filling in on guitar for Nils Lofgren, who couldn't do this tour because of a previous commitment with the E Street Band.

But more on Lofgren later.

Nelson previously toured with Young as a member of Promise of the Real.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse haven't lost their magic after 55 years

To look at Young and his two fellow travelers from the early days, you'd clearly know they've aged a year or two since 1969. To hear them? Not so much. It didn't sound much different than the tours I saw Crazy Horse do in the '90s. It rocked with that same urgency and passion (and distortion).

Young has never been the world's flashiest guitarist but he gets more magic out of one note than most guitar heroes can pack into 20 or 30 notes in half the time, arriving at a sound that's his and his alone.

As a singer, his vocals have rarely been flawless, but they've always done exactly what the songs require with raw emotion to spare, and that remained the case Saturday in Phoenix, where the 78-year-old Young sounded great.

Neil Young and Crazy Horse 2024 setlist: Every song they played at Phoenix concert

Neil Young's set went heavy on classics, from 'Powderfinger' to 'Cortez'

The set went heavy on the classics, from those already mentioned to "Don't Cry No Tears" and "Powderfinger."

After "Love and Only Love," the only song they played from "Ragged Glory," Young sent his bandmates away for a three-song mini-set on acoustic guitar and harmonica, including “Comes a Time” and “Heart of Gold."

Then his bandmates returned to bring the set to a cacophonous conclusion with the speaker-bleeding majesty of “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)," Young defiantly insisting "Rock and roll will never die" while illustrating why that is before returning for a one-song encore, "Danger Bird," with guest piano by Lofgren, who lives in the Valley and was home on a break in touring with the E Street Band.

By that point, it was everything you could've hoped for from an artist who's been touring since the '60s, playing to the strength that made him such a legend in the first place.

The newest song they played was “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’)” from 1996’s "Broken Arrow," prefaced by a heartfelt tribute to producer David Briggs, who worked with Young on countless classic albums before his death in 1995.

It was as close to a greatest hits tour as you'll likely see from Young but because he kept it so unpolished and spontaneous, it felt as fresh as those songs would've felt at any point in Young's career, even a warhorse as frequently featured as "Cinnamon Girl" or "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)."

It was everything a Young fan could've hoped for when the tour was first announced and then some.

Young and Reverend Billy & the Stop Shopping Choir deliver Love Earth gospel

After the second song, "Cinnamon Girl," Young took a moment to address the fans.

"This is the part of the show where I stand here at the front and figure out what to say for just a minute or two," he said before leading the crowd in a call-and-response of "What's your favorite planet?" "Earth!"

Then, when the applause died down, he added, "I want my grandchildren's grandchildren to have this so they can go way out in the forest and walk around, way out in the fields and walk around. That's what I want them to see. We've gotta be here."

This is the Love Earth Tour, a sentiment at the heart of the opening set by Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir, a performance art ensemble whose surreal performance found the Reverend, dressed in a white suit, preaching an anti-war, pro-environment gospel.

"We're here to talk to you about the Earth!" the Reverend shouted. "We've got some high stakes here this evening. Couldn't be higher. It's about life! Saving life! Loving life! Being strange enough to change enough to find a way to live!"

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

yeah the tour

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

Culture Shock Rating

We have a wide range of tours designed to give you an insight into the destination you're travelling in and there is something for everybody. The culture shock ratings considers the destination visited, transport used, activities undertaken and that "Wow, I'm really not at home now!" factor. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The tour can include a mix of private and public transport providing a level of comfort that is slightly below what you would experience at home. Sites visited are usually iconic sites, tours can also include market visits, visits to communities etc that provide the traveller with a fantastic insight into destination.

Expect to rough it for parts of this tour, whether it's a packed public bus where you are forced to stand, a visit to a local market, a local community, you are sure to have an experience that is very different from what you're used to at home.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

You're out there in the global community! You are likely to be exposed to the elements, travel in whatever means of transport is available and basically take it as it comes, whatever comes! It can be tough.

Physical Rating

Our physical rating gives you an idea of how much huffing and puffing you can expect on the tour. While generalisations are always tricky, a summary of our gradings is as follows…

These tours have very limited physical activity. Usually climbing in and out of the transport provided, walking through sites, markets etc included in the itinerary.

These tours have a bit of physical activity but nothing that should challenge you too much. This could be climbing on and off public transport through to a walk through the destination you're travelling in, they can include walking only tours or a combination of walking and transport.

These tours involve a bit of physical activity from walking up and down hills in the destination you're travelling in or the surrounding areas. Climbing on and off local transport or riding a bike up to 30 kms along predominantly flat terrain or jumping in a kayak for a gentle paddle on flat water.

These Tours will provide you with some solid physical activity. Whether its bike riding, walking, trekking, kayaking or riding on public transport you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this tour.

Be prepared for some serious physical activity. These tours are our most challenging and involve some serious walking, hiking or bike riding. Can involve step climbs by foot or pedal and some challenging public transport options in the destination you are travelling.

Luxury Rating

Some trips are like a stroll on the beach, while others have you trekking alpine passes. Some of you thrive on camping out on the savannah, while others may prefer a hot shower and a comfortable bed in a lodge. Follow the grading systems below to find the right trip for you.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. So whether you're travelling on a budget and want to save money by using public transport, or prefer upgraded accommodation and are happy to pay a little more, then we have a level for you.

Neil Young And Crazy Horse Kick Off Love Earth Tour 2024: Here’s The Setlist

by Em Casalena April 25, 2024, 12:40 pm

Neil Young’s highly-anticipated Love Earth Tour just kicked off with Crazy Horse in San Diego, California yesterday at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre. As always, Young puts on one hell of a show and hasn’t slowed down at this point in his six-decade career.

Young performed some of his greatest hits, including “Cortez The Killer” and “Heart Of Gold” to fans’ delight. He performed a couple of deep cuts as well.

Young and Crazy Horse killed the performance, and it’s clear that both the legend and the band have quite a bit of pent-up creativity. They’ve just put out a new collaborative album as well, FU##IN’ UP , which was released just a few days ago on April 20. An all-format version will be released tomorrow, April 26.

Neil Young’s Love Earth Tour Setlist

Curious about what you can expect from Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s current tour? Here’s the setlist from last night’s show:

1. “Cortez The Killer”

2. “Cinnamon Girl”

3. “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’)”

4. “Don’t Cry No Tears”

5. “Down By The River”

6. “The Losing End (When You’re On)”

7. “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere”

8. “Powderfinger”

9. “Love And Only Love”

10. “Comes A Time” (Solo/Acoustic Performance)

11. “Heart Of Gold” (Solo/Acoustic Performance)

12. “Human Highway” (Solo/Acoustic Performance)

13. “Don’t Be Denied”

14. “Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)”

While fans shouldn’t expect Young’s setlist to be exactly the same for all of the Love Earth Tour’s upcoming dates, last night’s show in Cali gave a pretty solid preview of what fans can expect from the rest of the trek.

Young and Crazy Horse will perform another set tonight at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre before traveling to Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and onward towards Canada.
