Avengers: Quantum Encounter is the newest Marvel team-up, but it’s not going to be easy to see. The new story will be an experience exclusive to the new the new Wish cruise ship , Disney announced on Tuesday .

As you may have guessed from the name , Quantum Encounter focuses on Ant-Man and The Wasp , who are giving a presentation on new Pym Tech that gets crashed by Ultron and an army of Robots. The story will star both Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, who will team up with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Anthony Mackie in his first group outing as Captain America. Ross Marquand ( The Walking Dead ) will voice Ultron. There will also be a special surprise cameo from another hero, but we don’t know who that is just yet.

Avengers: Quantum Encounter will be an integral part of Disney’s new Wish cruise ship. The show will take place during dinner and will include interactable sections for diners, as well as hundreds of screens and specially designed effects to enhance the show and the dining experience. The show also includes a full CGI re-creation of the Wish’s upper decks, which is where most of the battles in it take place.

Avengers: Quantum Encounter has apparently finished filming and will be ready for the Wish’s launch in summer 2022.

Disney Announces New Cruise Line-Exclusive Avengers Show

Imagineer Danny Handke reveals that Disney Cruise Line's upcoming Avengers-themed dinner theater show will feature major stars from the MCU.

Disney Parks announced that the upcoming Avengers: Quantum Encounter dinner theater show on Disney Cruise Lines will feature some of the biggest stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I am so excited to share that the world-renowned stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are lending their talents to this first-of-its-kind adventure!" Danny Handke, Senior Creative Director with Walt Disney Imagineering, wrote in a new post on the Disney Parks Blog . "At Worlds of Marvel, our guests will be part of a real-life Avengers mission as they watch some of their favorite heroes in action: Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel!"

Handke also revealed that Kerry Condon has signed on to reprise her role as the voice of F.R.I.D.A.Y., while actor Ross Marquand will lend his vocals to the villainous Ultron.

The Avengers: Quantum Encounter show will follow Ant-Man and The Wasp as they present some of the most powerful superhero technologies in the world and demonstrate the latest and greatest advances from Pym Tech. Things will get messy, however, when Ultron shows up with an army of robot sentries on a mission to steal the technology, and Ant-Man and The Wasp must recruit some of their superhero friends to save the day. Handke also promised in his post that an as-yet-to-be-revealed Marvel hero will make a surprise cameo during the show.

In addition to prepping the new Quantum Encounter show, Marvel is allegedly developing films centered on the Thunderbolts and Nova comic book series for the 2022-2023 film season. It's also been reported that a Fantastic Four reboot, a Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel and a project focused on Okoye (Danai Gurira), General of Black Panther's Dora Milaje warriors, are also in the works.

In the meantime, Marvel's Hawkeye series -- starring Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld as fellow archer Kate Bishop -- is set to debut on Disney+ on Nov. 24. In a recent interview about the project, Renner confirmed his character will be hard of hearing in the show , a character trait from the comics that had not yet been acknowledged in the MCU.

Disney Cruise Lines first brought the MCU into the fold back in 2017, when it celebrated the inaugural Marvel Day at Sea . The annual, one-day celebration is held on select Caribbean sailings and features character appearances, special activities, exclusive merchandise, and film screenings. Avengers: Quantum Encounter is set to debut on the Disney Wish as part of the Worlds of Marvel in Summer 2022.

Marvel Day at Sea on the Disney Magic – Our Review And What You Need to Know

avengers cruise movie

Every Disney Cruise Line offers guests an amazing vacation experience filled with all the Disney magic you’d expect. However, Disney Cruise Line also offers some very special themed voyages that take an already fantastic vacation to the next level. From January to early March, special five-night Disney Magic sailings include a Marvel Day at Sea featuring encounters with most of the Marvel heroes, several Marvel-themed shows, and more Marvel-themed activities than you can count.

In January 2019, we enjoyed a Marvel Day at Sea Cruise on the Disney Magic. At the time, I considered myself an average Marvel fan. I’ve seen most of the movies, but not all of them. Chad had only seen a few of the movies. We didn’t know what to expect but were absolutely blown away by the events, character encounters, and entertainment throughout the day. So much so that we both left eager to watch all the movies in the Marvel Universe. We actually watched the first movie the night we got home and completely rearranged our Netflix queue. If you have Marvel fans in your family, prepare to lose your mind. Read on for all the details.

1 – Marvel Day at Sea

Marvel Day at Sea combines the thrills of renowned Marvel comics, films, and animated series with the excitement of a Disney Cruise to summon everyone’s inner Super Hero for the adventures that lie ahead during this unforgettable day at sea. To be clear, the entire cruise is not Marvel-themed. The Marvel activities happen on one action-packed day during each of the special Disney sailings. The event features all-day entertainment, including encounters with some of the mightiest Marvel Super Heroes and the menacing foes who oppose them, an extraordinary deck-show spectacular, Marvel-themed youth activities, special merchandise, and unique food and beverage offerings.

2 – Marvel Costumes

Like Pirate night, guests are encouraged to dress as elaborately as they like or not at all. We saw most guests, including ourselves, wore Marvel-themed T-shirts. Some went all out and dressed in full costumes. Many landed somewhere in between with some terrific Etsy-worthy outfits. A Marvel Costume Celebration was held in the Atrium to showcase guests in their costumes, and guests could show off their outfits.

3 – Heroic Encounters

There are three different character interactions that you can plan to have during your Marvel Day at Sea. First are the scheduled and ticketed Heroic Encounters, which (like the Disney Princesses) can and should be booked ahead of time. You’ll receive a ticket with a specific time to visit. We started our day with both of these booked encounters. For our first scheduled encounter, we met Spiderman, Black Panther, and Ironman one right after each other. Our second scheduled encounter was and meeting with Groot in a separate area. Each of these interactions was terrific. Spiderman was particularly perfect. He was so spot on. If we didn’t know any better, we would have thought that it really was Tom Holland in the suit!

avengers cruise movie

The second option is similar to character encounters guests are likely familiar with from visiting the parks. Throughout the day, other characters were stationed in specific spots throughout the ship allowing guests to line up for pictures and autographs with their favorites. Greeting times were listed in the Personal Navigator (the cruise planner), with most characters available several times throughout the day. For instance, Thor was scheduled for 9:15 am, 11:15 am, 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm on Deck 4. Loki, Captain America, and Captain Marvel were also scheduled for the day. Captain Marvel debuted on our voyage, and we were the first ones to be able to meet her! She was perfect. These character greetings were very popular, and the lines were very long.

Lines for characters open at their scheduled times and remain open for 15 minutes. Please note we saw a number of guests confused about how this worked. The following was the policy for our cruise; it may have changed, so be sure to ask a Cast Member for your particular cruise. If the character you’d like to meet is scheduled for 2:00 pm, you must be in line by 2:15 pm. As long as you enter the line within that 15-minute window, you are guaranteed to meet the character regardless of how long the line is. However, if you arrive after the 15-minute window, you will not be allowed to meet the character.  To clear the area for the next scheduled character and ensure cast members are able to take breaks, this is strictly enforced.

We waited almost an hour and a half to meet Captain America. Captain America’s posted time was 10:45 am, 12:45 pm, and 3:30 pm. We arrived at 12:18 pm to get in line early. However, because Captain America and Captain Marvel were sharing the same greeting area, the line was crazy long. I had already met Captain Marvel, so I wanted to ensure I could meet Captain America. I spoke with a very helpful Cast Member, and he said they were keeping track of where the Captain America greeting time began and ended. (He knew which family was first for Captain America and which family was last). I was assured that I was in the right spot and would meet him. Sure enough, we did meet him.

avengers cruise movie

The Cast Members did a fantastic job handling the crowds, answering questions, and keeping the line together and moving. The guests that we interacted with were also great and understanding. We all get that lines are a part of the Disney experience, particularly for rare characters. We, unfortunately, did not have the opportunity to meet Loki and Thor. There was so much amazing programming for the day, we simply could not do all the activities that were available! Another reason for us to come back!

Another way you may meet characters is simply by bumping into them around the ship. Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Star-Lord, and Gamora were randomly walking the atrium decks for quick photos and a chat. These lines were much shorter because you couldn’t plan on when to meet them. We were able to run into each of these characters. As we expected, all of them were terrific!

avengers cruise movie

4 – Heroes in Training!

If you read any of our cruise recaps, you’ll know that Disney’s youth clubs are amazing. During Marvel Day at Sea, kids in the club get special Marvel programming that will make any adult jealous. Kids were treated to the Marvel Super Hero Academy inside Disney’s Oceaneer Club. Super Heroes like Spider-Man, Black Widow, Thor, and Hawkeye teach kids the true qualities of being a hero. Kids can participate in special secret agent training, learn the path to becoming worthy with the help of Thor, and hone their reflexes, speed, and intellect with Spider-Man. If only I were a kid again!

5 – Getting to Know the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

After we meet with the Marvel characters, we headed to Marvel Origins. This was a fun and interactive presentation where we learned the basics of Marvel history and the origins of some of its most popular characters. It was very informative and helpful for a not-so-versed Marvel fan!

There were three chances to catch a “Meet the Masters” presentations that were also a great way to learn more about MCU. The first in the morning was with Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) Portfolio Executive Producer John Mauro. In the afternoon, Marvel Creative Director, Brian Crosby, was the presenter at two different times. Both John and Brian shared how Marvel and WDI are bringing the Marvel stories and characters to life. Both gave an in-depth talk on the process and challenges of transforming the Tower of Terror at California Adventure into the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. It was a fascinating look into what it takes to bring an amazing attraction from idea to opening day and the care that goes into every aspect of the guest experience. We were also treated to some peeks at upcoming Marvel-based attractions coming to Disney parks around the world.

These were very interesting presentations where we learned how Disney is bringing the MCU to life in Disney Parks around the world. Cindy attended John’s presentation, and Chad attended Brian’s. Both presenters brought their own enthusiasm and knowledge to their presentations, making them a bit different than the other. We both left with a greater understanding of Disney’s commitment to offering experiences that are full of fun, humor, and adventure. Their goal is for all guests, from first-timers to life-timers, to be pulled into the Marvel Universe in an engaging way. It really is an exciting time for the Disney-Marvel partnership!

6 – Marvel Trivia and Animation Academy

For master Marvel fans, there were challenging games designed to test the knowledge of Marvel’s heroes and foes. There was also an opportunity to learn how to draw popular Marvel Super Heroes—like Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, and Groot. There was also a quiz to determine the perfect Marvel comic for you.

7 – Journey Into the Mystic Arts with Doctor Strange

Offered multiple times in the afternoon, we were able to see Doctor Strange and set forth on a journey of discovery with the sorcerer supreme himself in an interactive new show, “Doctor Strange: Journey into the Mystic Arts,” in the Walt Disney Theatre. In addition to honing their skills in the mystic arts, children played a unique role in the experience as Doctor Strange calls upon young apprentices to put their skills to the test in an epic battle against the Dark Dimension. This one was definitely geared toward the younger crowd, but the show was well done, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

8 – Fan Favorite Marvel Movies

Also offered throughout the day were exclusive at-sea screenings of fan-favorite films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movies during our cruise on Marvel Day at Sea were: Avengers: Infinity War, Venom, and Captain: America Civil War. Marvel films were also shown other days as well including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 3D, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, The Avengers, and Avengers: Age of Ultron. There were also viewings of the Disney XD show Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on Funnel Vision, the screen over the family pool. Seeing a movie at sea may not be at the top of your to-do list, but I do want to say that the fact that Disney offers these movies at all is another terrific benefit of Disney Cruise Line. On the non-Marvel days, both Ralph Breaks the Internet and Mary Poppins Returns were playing. Being able to see current Disney movies while at sea is a very nice perk.

9 – Mickey and the Gang

The character greetings didn’t end with Marvel characters. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, and even Chip and Dale joined in the fun as they dressed up to honor their favorite Marvel Super Heroes. There were two times to catch these characters: in the later afternoon before the first dinner and then after the second dinner. Mickey was dressed up as Captain America, Minnie as Spiderman, Donald as the Hulk, Goofy as Ironman, Daisy as Black Widow, Chip and Dale as Thor and Loki, and Pluto with an Avengers scarf! It was a bit of a challenge to meet all of these characters, but we were able to do it!

View this post on Instagram A post shared by DisneyLists.com (@disneylists_com)

Character meeting tip reminder: The characters are scheduled at separate times and share greeting locations. The line is closed after 15 minutes, regardless of how long it is. So, if the posted time to meet Minnie Mouse is 5:45 pm, as long as you are in line by 6:00 pm, you will be able to meet her. This was really helpful to know because a lot of times the line, particularly for Mickey, was very long and we wanted to be sure we met him. Again, the Cast Members were so helpful in helping us understand the queuing process for meeting the characters.

10 – Marvelous Snacks and Dinner

As you might expect, there were plenty of Marvel snacks, drinks, and beverage souvenirs to be found. Dinner was also hero-themed with out-of-this-world dishes and desserts. The entrees were grouped by Marvel Characters. For instance, Hawkeye’s choices were baked buttermilk corn-fed chicken and roasted pork tenderloin “Huntsman.”

11 – Mickey & Friends Super Show

Dressed up as their favorite Marvel Super Heros, Mickey and friends kick off a dance party on deck in “Mickey and Friends Super Hero Celebration.” This was a cute family-friendly deck show that focused on how each character had a value of the hero they were dressed as. Mickey has the value of honor, just like Captain America. Minnie Mouse has the value of responsibility, Donald has strength, Daisy has determination, Goofy has the future, Chip has worthiness, Dale has cleverness, and Pluto has teamwork. The show encouraged kids that anyone can be a superhero by knowing right from wrong, helping out around the house, helping a friend in need—that makes you super too. It was a fun show that was great for all ages.

avengers cruise movie

12 – Marvel Heroes Unite Deck Show

Later that evening there was a second deck show, “Heroes Unite.” This action-packed show brings the largest collection of Marvel Super Heroes and Villains together. They face off in an exciting battle at sea creating one epic finale. The spectacular features incredible stunts, special effects, pyrotechnics and music taking over the upper decks of the ship. The show was fantastic and ended with another round of fireworks! Our cruise got two fireworks at sea, and it was awesome to experience.

avengers cruise movie

13 – Ravagers Night Club

At the end of the evening, there was special entertainment just for adults. We headed down to Fathoms nightclub, now a Ravager hideout, where we enjoyed an adult-exclusive experience inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy. We were treated to some dancers who had terrific moves. Then, Ravagers (who don’t dance, by the way), roamed the dance floor screaming, “Ravagers don’t dance,” and expressed their displeasure whenever they were asked to dance by their host. They also praised those of us who chose not to dance! Star-Lord joined in on the fun dancing along, and Gamora just glared at everyone, which is what she does and was perfect doing it! The music, of course, was the perfect mixtape soundtrack of 70’s & 80’s hits. The Disney entertainers were again perfect in their performances. It was a marvelous ending to a Marvel Day at Sea!

Disney's Newest Cruise Ship Will Feature an Epic Marvel-themed Dining Experience

Introducing Avengers: Quantum Encounter.

avengers cruise movie

Dinner and a show will get a major twist when Disney debuts its new cruise ship next year.

Passengers aboard Disney Cruise Line's Disney Wish ship will be able to take part in an interactive "cinematic dining experience" based on the Marvel universe when the ship makes its maiden voyage in Summer 2022.

Referred to in a blog post shared this week as its "most ambitious dining experience ever" the Avengers: Quantum Encounter restaurant in the ship's Marvel World, puts diners right inside their favorite action films.

As guests sit down Ant-Man and The Wasp will greet them while screens around the restaurant will get the audience in on the action, showing them holographic models and field reports from the Marvel universe. And, because Ant-Man is in charge of the action, diners can expect everything in the restaurant to start changing sizes.

The experience will feature some hijinks, interactive opportunities for the audience and a villain who must be stopped. The show will call in superheroes like Captain America and Captain Marvel — and, of course, the diners in the restaurant — to help save the day.

And throughout the entire meal, diners can order food inspired by some Marvel locations, like Wakanda, Sokovia, and the Avengers' home base of New York City. The menus are still being developed and Disney will announce more information about the food aboard Disney Wish at a later date.

Diners aboard Disney Wish will also have several, more casual dining options .

The Marceline Market will be a food hall, featuring 10 food stalls and a cafe-style beverage bar. The stalls are based on Disney films like "Tangled," "Ratatouille" and "Alice in Wonderland" and will serve up a variety of food, from classic American to international plant-based fare. And the "Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods" will serve up quick bites like pizza, barbecue, or ice cream.

Disney Cruise Marvel Day at Sea

If you love the MCU and have a niggling interest in the Marvel Disney Cruise , hold-onto your seats, because we’ve pulled together everything you need to know about the Disney Marvel Cruise and we’re laying it on you.

The Marvel Day at Sea is more than just a few extras tossed-in on top of a regular Disney cruise.

There’s so much more to it, including chances to meet your favorite Marvel characters and immerse yourself in the Marvel universe for a day.

Check out this quick video about how fun and unique this Marvel Disney Cruise really is.

Disney Cruise Marvel Day at Sea: Everything You Need to Know

Spiderman and a kid relax on the Disney Magic at Disney Cruise Marvel Day at Sea

What This Guide Covers

What is marvel day at sea, how is marvel day at sea sailing different than a regular disney cruise, do the marvel activities cost extra.

  • When are the Marvel Day at Sea Disney Cruise sailings in 2019?
  • When are the Marvel Day at Sea Disney Cruise sailings in 2020?
  • When are Marvel Cruise sailings in 2021?

What Disney Cruise Ships feature the Marvel Day?

What marvel characters will you see during a marvel at sea itinerary, is the disney cruise fireworks show different on a marvel at sea sailing, what is the avengers academy, from which ports does the marvel day at sea disney cruise originate.

The Marvel Day at Sea is a special day on select sailings of the Disney Magic .

From characters to fireworks to exclusive shows, passengers can immerse in a full day Marvel Cinematic Universe experience on a Marvel Disney cruise.

During this immersive experience, the Disney cruise ship transforms to host special Meet and Greets with your favorite Marvel characters, movie marathons, shows and experiences all related to the MCU and the great set of characters Disney brought to life from the comics.

The Marvel Day at Sea focuses on shows, events, and encounters from the famous Marvel movies for a full day.

Instead of your “typical” Disney character encounters, meet-and-greets and entertainment, you get to see your favorite Marvel characters. For example, on this special day you might meet Captain America or Captain Marvel.

And instead of a fun sing-along with the Fab 4, you get to see a stunt show from the Avengers, where the Marvel Super Heroes and Villains face off in an incredible battle at sea.

Marvel Day at Sea activities, shows, and character greetings are no additional charge, and are included in the normal fare . Themed cocktails and merchandise cost extra.

Disney Magic is the only ship that will feature Marvel day in 2020.

Marvel super heroes team up on Disney Cruise Marvel Day at Sea on the Disney Magic

You’ll have to schedule reservations for some characters, while others you will not, but some of the most fun encounters are:

  • Captain Marvel
  • Dr. Strange
  • Black Panther
  • Captain America
  • Black Widow

The Disney Cruise Fireworks show features fireworks and songs from the Avengers soundtrack. It will occur during the deck party after the special evening show. The evening show features video clips and a live show called “Marvel Heroes Unite” which features a battle between the Avengers and some dastardly villains.

The Marvel evening festivities replace the traditional Pirates night that would take place on regular sailings.

The Avengers Academy is hosted by Spider-Man , Black Widow, Hawkeye and Thor, teaching younger guests (the kids) the essence of being a hero, playing Marvel-themed games, participating in activities and making Marvel-themed crafts. This is all done in the Oceaneers Club.

Miami is the primary port of origination, but the two cruise sets (Caribbean vs. Bahamian) have some different destinations, even within each cruise type, although all of the cruises stop at Disney Castaway Cay .

Marvel Studios Stars Xochitl Gomez Tours the Disney Wish! - Disney Cruise Line

A New Avengers Adventure Will Screen Exclusively On The Disney Wish Cruise Ship

Brie Larson with messy updoinn 'Captain Marvel'

Disney's reach is far and wide across the globe. The company has stakes in pretty much every media-adjacent industry, including broadcast television, video games, theme parks, publishing, and — not surprisingly — cruise ships. The far-reaching magic of the House of Mouse even hits the open ocean with its line of Disney-themed cruise ships.

Onboard Disney's newest ship, the Wish, kids and adults will get the chance to experience the Disney magic firsthand with immersive dining experiences, water rides, and other live entertainment. The Wish, due to set sail in 2022, has been making waves with its completely unique experiences only available on particular voyages such as AquaMouse, Disney's first-ever attraction at sea, and the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, a "Star Wars"-themed bar.

Now, the Wish has even more exclusive action on its deck, and it's sure to excite fans of Marvel and attract MCU completists from all walks — even those who might not generally consider a cruise.

Avengers: Quantum Encounter is an interactive dining show

Disney has enlisted several famous Marvel faces to take part in a show exclusive to Wish's cruise-goers. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, and Brie Larson will all reprise their MCU characters in the new show entitled: "Avengers: Quantum Encounter" that is a part of the immersive dining experience at the ship's Worlds of Marvel restaurant.

According to Attractions Magazine, the experience will feature Ant-Man and The Wasp as hosts as they present new superhero technology to diners. The tech is even available at diner's fingertips, with each table having its own "Quantum Core, a brand-new device that can cause objects to shrink and grow remotely." After guests test out the new tech themselves, a familiar foe, Ultron, arrives to try and steal the tech, but Captain America and Captain Marvel are called in to help save the day.

The truly interactive dining experience will also serve food inspired by Marvel locations such as Wakanda, Sokovia, and New York City. With all this exclusive Marvel material, we couldn't be more jealous of those setting sail on Disney's Wish next year.

Marvel Day at Sea on the Disney Dream

It’s themed cruise season for Disney Cruise Line, and for the first time, Marvel Day at Sea is being hosted on select sailings on the Disney Dream. My family and I sailed on the second Marvel Day at Sea cruise, which sailed from Miami on January 16th. Because this offering is so new, we wanted to share all of the details with you, in case you’re considering booking a Marvel Day at Sea cruise in the future, or if you’ve already booked and you’re one of those meticulous planner types (you are welcome here) and you need to know all of the things in advance.

Because this is a post for people that want spoilers and want to plan ahead, there will be spoilers. I can’t help you plan without giving you the details. Even still, I will call out “big” spoilers ahead of time. That way if you want basic who/what/when/wheres, but still want an element of surprise and delight, you can read the basics and avoid the “magic”.

We also need to keep in mind that I experienced the second-ever Marvel Day At Sea on the Dream, so things could still shift and change. This includes (but is not limited to) which characters appear, how many meets you can reserve, when/where characters appear, the number of shows and other offerings, etc. etc. etc. As with all things, your experience may vary.

avengers cruise movie

Characters are absolutely central to Marvel Day at Sea. They are the heart of the entire experience, and this is the one area where Disney Cruise Line absolutely knocked it out of the park. There was no skimping on characters here – almost everyone should be able to meet their favorite Avenger at some point during the day. And you could spend quite literally all day meeting various characters if that’s how you choose to spend your time.

Heroic Encounters

Similar to the Royal Gathering available on Disney cruises (including this one), Heroic Encounters are free, scheduled character meet-and-greets that you reserve 30 days before you set sail – the same day that you can do online check-in. There are three different options to book for Marvel Day at Sea:

  • Heroic Encounters: HQ (Spiderman and Iron Man)
  • Heroic Encounters: Asgard (Thor and Mighty Thor, or Loki)
  • Heroic Encounters: Guardians (Groot and Star-Lord)

Before and when you book, you will learn a few things. First, you are only supposed to be able to book one of the three heroic encounters. In reality, guests on our cruise were able to book as many as we wanted. This wasn’t due to low attendance – our cruise was at 98% capacity. So it’s like a rule that Disney stated but didn’t enforce. This “loophole” could close at any time. Second, you will only get vague descriptions of characters – mostly to safeguard in case certain characters aren’t able to appear. Disney mostly only implies that you can meet Spiderman/Iron Man, Thor, and Groot. The additions of Jane Foster, sometimes-Loki, and Star-Lord were total “bonus” and not hinted at at all. Again, this means that they could change at any time.

The most popular meet  by far is Heroic Encounters: HQ. Even though you have to reserve in advance, and show up at your assigned time, the line is frequently 45 minutes long. Spiderman and Iron Man meet in the D Lounge, and the line not only winds around inside that space, but also significantly down the hall on Deck 4. Prepare yourself for a long wait.

avengers cruise movie

The other two Heroic Encounters are much different. Perhaps they had fewer reservations given out. Asgard and Guardians both happen inside Animator’s Palate. You’re only allowed to line up outside the restaurant 5-10 minutes before your assigned time. Then when the time is right, your entire group for that reserved time is moved inside the restaurant and you all meet the characters quickly.

avengers cruise movie

Scheduled Characters

In addition to the reserved Heroic Encounters, there are many,  many  scheduled character meets that you can find on the Navigator app all throughout the day. Easily every 30 minutes or more frequently. Let’s review some of them by location – where they were meeting during our cruise.

Preludes: Shuri and T’Challa – the two different iterations of Black Panther rotate every 30 or 60 minutes in Preludes, outside the Walt Disney Theater. This line tended to approximately 30 minutes long, and the attendant would let people in the line know whether they would be meeting Shuri or T’Challa based on how far back they were in line. I never got to meet T’Challa, but Shuri was absolutely lovely. We bonded over being technically-inclined women, and she invited my daughters to Wakanda to help them learn more things. Keep in mind, since this location is constantly occupied by a character, attendants and photographers have to occasionally swap out, and that also pauses the line.

avengers cruise movie

Lobby: Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi – Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi regularly had the shortest lines of any of the scheduled characters, which was helpful since long lines are tricky in the already-busy lobby. This location wasn’t constantly occupied like Preludes, but it almost always had one of these characters. Ms. Marvel is delightful and very effusive with teenage energy. Shang-Chi is happy to talk cars or cool moves, and will gladly teach you some new photo poses.

avengers cruise movie

Evolution: Sam Wilson, Steve Rogers, and Captain Marvel – this trio easily had the longest lines of any of the scheduled meets. And they would rotate every 60 minutes. The line would wind all of the way around Evolution, through the rest of the District, and even out into the hallway beyond the District. It was remarkable and intimidating. The wait typically averaged an hour long, which meant that a different character would be meeting when you got to the front. As a result, my family only met one character in this space. We saw Captain Marvel very early in the morning, before the lines ballooned. One note – both Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson meet at Captain America – you won’t see Falcon on this cruise.

avengers cruise movie

Wandering Characters

The lines were long for scheduled meets, and the characters lived up to expectations. But if you didn’t want to (or couldn’t) deal with the lengthy waits, you weren’t out of luck. Because Disney brought the real magic in the unscheduled character appearances. These are the appearances that really made the day magical. So many characters appeared so frequently and seemingly randomly that it felt like you were on a SHIELD quinjet and just observing what a day is like amongst the Avengers.

So here’s the real Marvel Day at Sea hack. You just sit in the lobby all the live-long day. You see a character, you walk up to them (or they walk up to you), you have a conversation, an interaction, and then you both move along. No lines (usually), just hanging with Avengers like it’s an everyday normal thing.

We learned this hack late in the day, but but even so, we saw all of the following characters wandering without handlers or lines in the lobby on decks 3, 4, or 5:

  • Kate Bishop
  • Black Widow
  • Doctor Strange
  • Captain Marvel
  • Steve Rogers
  • Tracksuit Mafia

avengers cruise movie

Classic Disney Characters

You’ll see a very limited selection of scheduled classic Disney character meet-and-greets late in the afternoon and early evening. These all happen after the costume celebration, and before the Mickey and Friends deck show (both described in more detail below). Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale all do some Disney-bounding as their favorite Avengers. You can meet them after the costume celebration, or during the scheduled time.

avengers cruise movie

In addition to characters, there are so many activities to choose from throughout the day. After all, there’s got to be something to do for the people that get tired of all of the lines!

The Avengers Training Initiative will happen once on Deck 11 on Marvel Day at Sea, and then once in the kids club on the same day. It will also repeat sometime later in the cruise. We decided to let our kids attend during the kids club session because it was  much less crowded. According to them, they got to meet and learn from Sam Wilson and Black Widow – and then they made their very own superhero masks (which looked suspiciously like Mardi Gras masquerade masks …).

Comic Vault

For several hours throughout the morning, and again in the afternoon, you are invited to check out a tablet that comes pre-loaded with 273 different Marvel comics. The tablets are available near Vista Cafe on Deck 4. You give the attendant your stateroom number, and then the tablet is yours to do with what you will. You can take it back to your stateroom, or wherever else you’d like. But I highly recommend remaining in the area and reading on one of the couches in Vista Cafe, because you’re in a perfect location to see those wandering characters while you read your comics.

avengers cruise movie

Trivia is a staple of Disney cruising. And any trivia session is pretty difficult to win. This is especially true of Marvel trivia on Marvel Day at Sea. You’ve got lots of big fans that know all of the things and want to show off. You can attend any of a variety of “normal” trivia throughout the day, or you can wait for the Ultimate Showdown late at night, where you participate in trivia in a series of rounds, always paired up with another person. The winner moves on and the loser is eliminated. On our cruise, two brothers made it to the final round, and had to eventually go to a tie-breaker, which the older brother won.

Animation classes are a classic offering on any Disney Cruise Line sailing. You can usually learn to draw Mickey, Stitch, Minnie, Goofy, or other characters. On Marvel Day at Sea, these animation classes convert into “Marvel Comic Academy”, and they all happen in District Lounge. During Marvel Comic Academy, you learn how to draw Spiderman or Iron Man or other Avengers.

These classes are popular, and the area is also incredibly busy (and loud) thanks to the long lines for the characters in Evolution. The folks leading the classes also have less experience drawing these characters than they do the other more “classic” Disney characters. Plus, the characters themselves are just more difficult to draw. So our family found these classes to be slightly more frustrating and hard to follow than the offerings on other days. Still fun, but something to note if you’re used to following along and ending up with a perfect character to be able to show off and brag about.

avengers cruise movie

Costume Celebration

Almost everyone dresses up for Marvel Day at Sea. Similar to Pirate Night on other sailings, the spectrum of costumes is very wide. Some people don’t dress up at all. Others wear themed t-shirts. And some go all-out with elaborate costumes. There were certainly many more toward the “elaborate” side of that spectrum on Marvel Day at Sea, especially kids in costumes.

So, before the main dining rotation, Disney hosts a costume celebration in the lobby. Large groups of people are ushered up to the “stage” all at once, where everyone can admire their costumes. The entertainment hosts interview a few participants, everyone claps and celebrates their fellow cruise passengers.

At the end of the celebration, Mickey and Friends crash the party in their Avengers-bounding outfits. When the celebration is over, they all spread out to different parts of the lobby. At that time, you’re welcome to line up for pictures with them. Attendants will move things along quickly, only allowing one photo per party (and no official photographers).

avengers cruise movie

Entertainment

Disney Cruise Line entertainment is always spectacular. No other cruise line has all of the same caliber of Broadway-style entertainment, deck shows, or fireworks at sea. And the special entertainment  for Marvel Day at Sea, as a whole, doesn’t disappoint.

Warriors of Wakanda

Wakanda has a great amount of representation during Marvel Day at Sea – in addition to Shuri and T’Challa constantly meeting their fans in Preludes, Okoye is onboard, and leads the cruise passengers in warrior training 2 or 3 times throughout the day. Each of these training sessions happens in the lobby, and Ms. Marvel/Shang-Chi aren’t meeting during show time.

The first Warriors of Wakanda showtime is by far the most crowded – so feel free to wait for a later showing. If you’ve attended the equivalent entertainment offering at Avengers Campus in Disneyland … this will seem similar (read: identical). You will learn some important lessons about the true heart of a warrior, and then get to practice some moves and chants with Okoye.

avengers cruise movie

Strange Academy

Strange Academy is shown in the Walt Disney Theatre 3 times throughout the afternoon of Marvel Day at Sea. It is a 30-minute show put on by the same talented performers that star in the other Broadway-style shows throughout the cruise. Strange Academy is the only place where you’ll be able to see Wong and Agatha Harkness, and it also features Doctor Strange and 4 graduating “students” with various skills.

The crew of the ship really talked this show up as a do-not-miss … so we went in with very high expectations. It was a cute show, with some funny moments. Kids will like it, but it’s certainly not the most impressive entertainment of the day.

avengers cruise movie

Mickey and Friends Super Hero Celebration

Between dinner services on Marvel Day at Sea, many families head up to the pool deck to watch Mickey and Friends in their deck show. During this celebration, two entertainment hosts help Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Chip, Dale, and Pluto teach everyone how to be a real super hero. This involved some crazy dance moves, as well as some intentional focusing on character traits befitting of any hero. This isn’t the “big” deck show of the evening, but it’s a lot of energetic fun during a time of day when you probably won’t be doing anything else anyway.

avengers cruise movie

Heroes Unite

Be ye warned: spoilers ahead. Read the first section only if you want information on where and when to snag a spot, and then only read further if you want all of the details.

Marvel Day at Sea culminates in one big spectacular show at 10:15 pm on the pool deck. This is absolutely a well-designed and well-executed (at least by the second sailing – I’ve heard there were problems with the first) capstone to a busy and exciting day.

First things first – a reminder is pushed to all guests 45 minutes before the show starts, which means that spots start filling up very early. Even if you arrive 40 minutes before showtime, you will likely not find a spot on the railing on the upper deck, or anywhere close to the stage on the main deck. This is an event that is worth arriving early for. I recommend standing on the port side of the upper deck, midway between the stage and the Aqua Duck entrance. This will put you in the perfect spot to see many of the character entrances (and there are  many of them), as well as the fireworks and the stage action.

avengers cruise movie

Now come the show spoilers: the show itself is a lot of fun – the basic concept is that you are attending a technology expo hosted by Tony Stark. Except the tech that he’s showing off uses quantum technology to jump between multiverses. And powerful tech like that attracts powerful enemies who want to control it themselves. You’ll visit three different multi-verses – each introducing you to different heroes and different villains. Eventually _all_ of the Avengers onboard will appear, as well as the Tracksuit Mafia, Taskmaster and his goons, and Loki and Scarlet Witch. When the fight reaches a breaking point, Captain Marvel flies in to turn the tide. Of course, as she arrives, so do Kree fighter ships (it’s dark in the middle of the ocean, y’know, so you just can’t see them up there). She fights them off with … fireworks.

The scale of this show is astounding. There are generally more characters on stage than you can count, especially in the finale. And if you’ve been on a Disney sailing before, you know that a spectacular moment in Pirate Night shows is when Captain Mickey ziplines in to save the day. In this show, there are 8 different zipline entrances. Eight! Spiderman, Taskmaster, and Captain Marvel all use the “traditional” zipline. Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Spiderman (again) all rappel down in front of the Funnel-Vision screen. And Kate Bishop and Taskmaster goons use a side-to-side zip in the middle of the crowd on the main deck.

avengers cruise movie

Marvel Day at Sea also comes with its own menu that is offered at each of the three rotational dining locations. Appetizers, entrees and desserts are all  roughly themed to various Avengers. I’ll post pictures of the menu below. Overall, we enjoyed it better than the Animator’s Palate menu, and less than the Enchanted Garden and Royal Palace menus. But your experience and preferences may vary!

We ordered the Farmhouse appetizer, both Thor entrees, plus the Hawkeye pork and the Scarlet Witch Gnocchi. We also, regrettably, ordered the specialty Wakanda Forever drink after reading the description and joking about how terrible it sounded on Instagram. The menu promises a Coke Zero with Simply Strawberry and Banana, Caramel, and Himalayan Salt. Salted caramel strawberry banana coke? That’s a choice. Imagine our surprise when it showed up with another unlisted ingredient with yet another flavor – blue raspberry pop rocks. It was … a lot. Our kids enjoyed it, because the overwhelming flavor is “sweet”. But it’s not something that I can recommend to anyone else.

avengers cruise movie

Our family whole-heartedly recommends a Marvel Day at Sea cruise to any Avengers fans out there. You’ll have so much fun making memories with your family and the characters you’ve come to know and love.

We’re on the Marvel cruise now and this post is incredibly helpful, thank you!!!

Which day was marvel day at sea for planning? First day at sea or second?

For this cruise, it was on the first day at sea. The second day at sea was the last day of the cruise, which comes with its own activities (and packing), so they can’t really schedule anything substantial for that day.

Was the only thing you needed to make reservations for the Heroic Encounters? Everything else is wait in line or first come/first serve?

That’s right!

‘Captain America: Brave New World’: Harrison Ford’s POTUS Wants Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson To Rebuild The Avengers In First Look At CinemaCon

By Anthony D'Alessandro , Nancy Tartaglione

Anthony Mackie as Captain America

Fanboys will have to wait until San Diego Comic Con to see footage from Marvel Studios ‘ 2025 release Captain America: Brave New World , but exhibitors do not. On Thursday during Disney ‘s closing CinemaCon session, the studio showed off the new Anthony Mackie movie that picks up after the events of the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier . In that series, Sam Wilson takes over the shield left behind by the late Steve Rogers (Chris Evans).

Mackie shared how he started in these movies 10 years ago, and loved how he’s now “starring in my own Marvel movie.” Mackie didn’t delay and introduced the footage.

In the clip, Harrison Ford’s POTUS wants Sam Wilson to rebuild the Avengers. He’s impressed what the hero did down in Mexico. However, Wilson wonders what happens if they disagree on how to manage the new team. Next scene: Ford is making a presentation to a room full of authorities. However, a couple of people in the crowd become possessed — Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley and a general — and turn on the crowd, in particular Ford’s character. A la Air Force One, he’s a tough POTUS and punches the military guy in the face.

rebel moon part 2 two scargiver reviews rotten tomatoes zack snyder

Rebel Moon: Part 2 Is Lowest-Rated Zack Snyder Movie on Rotten Tomatoes

By Vansh Mehra

The Rotten Tomatoes score for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part 2 – The Scargiver is in, and it has received an even colder first reception from critics than the first movie.

A majority of critics didn’t enjoy Rebel Moon: Part One: A Child of Fire, as shown by its 21% Rotten score from an aggregate of 173 reviews in December 2023. It also had a low 57% Audience Score. However, Rebel Moon: Part 2 has debuted with Zack Snyder’s lowest Rotten Tomatoes score to date.

Rebel Moon: Part 2 reviews give it ‘Rotten’ rating

At the time of writing, the film stands at a 13% Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes . This score is subject to change for better or worse with over a hundred reviews yet to come in. But considering that most of its initial reviews are negative, the official score will likely remain “Rotten” as more reviews come in.

While Snyder continues to have a strong fanbase, he hasn’t found the same success with reviews from critics over the years. Besides Dawn of the Dead (2004), none of his films have received a “Fresh” Rotten Tomatoes score.

Furthermore, his Rebel Moon movies have received his two lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores.

The following list shows the critics’ scores on Rotten Tomatoes of all Zack Snyder movies:

  • Dawn of the Dead – 76% Fresh
  • Zack Snyder’s Justice League – 72%
  • Army Of The Dead – 67%
  • Watchmen – 65%
  • Man of Steel – 56% Rotten
  • Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole – 52% Rotten
  • Justice League (2017) – 40% Rotten
  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – 29% Rotten
  • Sucker Punch – 22% Rotten
  • Rebel Moon: Part One: A Child of Fire – 21% Rotten
  • Rebel Moon: Part Two: The Scargiver – 9% Rotten

Zack Snyder is still expected to release extended R-rated cuts of both Rebel Moon movies in the future and return to direct a sequel to Army of the Dead .

Zack Snyder drops shocking Watchmen-Tom Cruise truth bomb

W hile Tom Cruise has plenty of blockbusters under his belt, the actor has not gotten to work in the superhero and comic book sandbox despite multiple opportunities to. One of those potential opportunities was none other than Zack Snyder’s Watchmen which, according to the director, Cruise passed on over a disagreement on which role he would play.

Snyder spoke about his experience trying to court Cruise for Watchmen on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, via SlashFilm, and how far along conversations got before the actor ultimately moved on from the adaptation. The director said that while he wanted Cruise to portray brilliant and cunning Ozymandias, the longtime Mission: Impossible star was more interested in the nihilistic Rorschach.

“I wanted Tom Cruise for Ozymandias,” Snyder said. “Tom wanted to play Rorschach. He wanted to play Rorschach, which I mean, obviously he could have done. But yeah, we had Jackie [Earle Haley] already, and Jackie is like, unbelievable. But I certainly would have considered Tom, in retrospect if I hadn’t had Jackie.”

The role of Ozymandias would ultimately go to Matthew Goode and Jackie Earle Haley would be kept on as Rorschach. At the time of release, Haley’s performance was widely praised as one of its strongest while Goode was considered one of the weakest in the cast, though online fan sentiment has since softened toward Goode’s take on Ozymandias.

Watchmen would receive largely mixed reviews at release, with sentiment leaning a little more positively for Zack Snyder’s adaptation of writer Alan Moore’s acclaimed graphic novel. While critics were divided over Snyder’s faithfulness to the source material, the visual design and many of the performances were well received.

The film has since found a renewed appreciation, with director Christopher Nolan saying the film was ahead of its time and should have been released in a post-Avengers film landscape.

“I am Iron Man.”

As for Cruise, Watchmen would hardly be the only high-profile comic book film he would not star in.

The actor was reportedly being eyed to portray the titular “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” and help kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2008’s Iron Man. However, it was revealed in MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios that Cruise’s asking price at the time was considered too high for what was, at the time, considered a lesser-known Marvel character despite Iron Man’s long comic book history.

Robert Downey Jr., who was in the midst of his acting comeback, would ultimately be cast as Iron Man as he was considerably cheaper at the time due to his history of substance abuse and addiction. He would become a centerpiece character of the MCU, starring in three Iron Man films, four Avengers films, and appearing in various other movies such as Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Incredible Hulk.

Marvel is reinventing the avengers with "older, grittier versions" of mcu icons.

The MCU Avengers are getting gritty redesigns in Marvel Comics, one suited for Earth's Mightiest Heroes' upcoming crossover event: Aliens vs Avengers!

There are few fictional characters in recent media more iconic than the MCU ’s Avengers , as the live-action films have taken these decades-old Marvel Comics heroes to new heights in terms of widespread popularity. However, now it’s Marvel Comics’ turn to reinvent the MCU Avengers within their original medium, as an all-new comic series promises to introduce fans to “ older, grittier versions ” of those MCU icons - and that series is the upcoming Aliens vs Avengers .

In a release from Marvel announcing Aliens vs Avengers , fans are given the official synopsis of the four-issue miniseries, along with a first-look at the cover for the first issue. Aliens vs Avengers will be championed by writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Esad Ribic, and with their respective levels of creative talent focused on a single series, it should come as no surprise that this comic will be far from just an average ‘versus’ book, but a story that will truly reinvent those involved - both Avengers and Xenomorphs alike.

The four-part epic is set in a new timeline many years in the future and features older, grittier versions of Marvel characters. It also will be the first-time readers will see certain parts of Alien lore in the Marvel Universe—like the home of the Engineers. In this unmissable series, Xenomorphs reach Earth, and the perfect organism meets a planet of superhumans. But who will be first to fall?

One point in the official solicitation stands out from the rest, as it makes mention of the time period in which this new storyline is set, while also making it clear that Aliens vs Avengers takes place in a separate universe from the main Marvel Comics and Alien realities. The release says this series takes place “ many years in the future ”, and that it will feature “ older, grittier versions of Marvel characters ”. That means this story will be more than just the Avengers fighting some Xenomorphs, it will be one that redefines the team as fans know them today.

The Avengers Will Likely Face Alien’s Xenomorphs at Their Lowest Point (& That’s a Good Thing)

Aliens vs avengers by jonathan hickman and esad ribic.

These images are from the ‘Marvel vs Aliens’ variant covers that were released in 2021 .

When something is described as ‘old and gritty’, especially superheroes, one gets the impression that other appropriate adjectives would be ‘disillusioned and beaten-down’. Perhaps the Avengers aren’t so much champions of hope in this not-too-distant future, but are, instead, rugged vigilantes who have grown bitter from the countless battles they’ve fought in defense of the entire planet.

While not outright confirmed, Marvel’s official release for Aliens vs Avengers prominently noted that these Avengers will be ‘old and gritty’ , which makes it seem like the Avengers will be facing Alien ’s Xenomorphs at their lowest point. However, that could actually wind up being a good thing for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as perhaps - after being beaten down by the strenuous life of a superhero - the Avengers will find new purpose by defeating this cosmic enemy .

Xenomorphs are famous for their ability to invade a planet and completely take it over horrifyingly quickly, effectively terraforming any given world to meet their needs. Marvel’s announcement of this series reveals that the Xenomorphs have made it to Earth in Aliens vs Avengers , which means the Avengers will have to act quickly if they want to save the planet - something that will be extra challenging given their ‘old and gritty’ state.

While the Xenomorphs could mean the end of this Marvel world, their invasion may be just the thing to revitalize these “ older, grittier ” Avengers, allowing them to overcome their personal, internal battles while taking on these cosmic beasts.

The Avengers Won’t Be the Only Ones Altered in Aliens vs Avengers

Jonathan hickman teases a metamorphosis for both the avengers and the xenomorphs.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly , Jonathan Hickman expanded on the upcoming storyline beyond what was offered in the official synopsis.

Jonathan Hickman: Probably one of the coolest things about the project is how we’ve found really fun ways to ‘Avengerize’ Aliens and ‘alien-up’ Avengers. I think fans will be surprised at how elegantly some of those things fit together. It really turned out to be a chocolate-and-peanut-butter situation.

While Hickman could be referring to the tone of each series, and how one will imprint upon the other during this crossover, there’s also the possibility that Hickman is speaking literally when saying one series will ‘Avengerize’ or ‘alien-up’ the other. Like their ability to take over planets, Xenomorphs are also famous for another horrific trait: DNA Reflex. Xenomorphs ‘inherit’ beneficial traits from their hosts due to their DNA Reflex, which means that this series could give life to Avenger/Xenomorph hybrids.

The fact that these Avengers will exist in a separate reality from those of Earth-616, and that they’re ‘old and gritty’, means that they are not immune to death as they normally would be. Therefore, when Hickman says that Alien ’s Xenomorphs are going to be ‘Avengerized’, he may very well mean that fans will see Xenomorphs with the superhuman abilities of the Hulk, Captain Marvel, or any other Avenger fans can think of.

Aliens vs Avengers teases the introduction of Xenomorphs with the superhuman powers of the Avengers, should any of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes find themselves as a Xenomorph host, which is a wildly exciting prospect the likes of which fans have never seen before!

Aliens vs Avengers May Finally Lead to Another Highly Anticipated Crossover: Alien vs Predator

Predators were recently seen in the marvel universe in predator vs wolverine .

Since 20th Century Studios (an imprint of Marvel Comics) started publishing Alien and Predator comics, the two series have remained separate from one another. This is in stark contrast to the last publisher to produce Alien and Predator comics, Dark Horse Comics, which had Xenomorphs and Yautja existing in the same continuity right from the start. Could the Marvel Universe be the bridge that finally brings these two series together?

Predators were recently spotted hunting Wolverine in Benjamin Percy’s Predator vs Wolverine - a storyline that existed in its own continuity separate from the wider Marvel canon. Perhaps that storyline takes place in the same universe as Aliens vs Avengers , with the Predators being just as anxious to fight the Xenomorphs as the Avengers when the ‘Perfect Organisms’ invade Planet Earth.

While the inclusion of Predators from the Predator vs Wolverine storyline in Aliens vs Avengers would be a fun way to give fans the long-awaited AvP crossover in a 20th Century Studios comic, it seems more likely that the Predators will sit this adventure out, leaving the ultimate payoff of a 20th Century Studios AvP crossover for a later storyline all its own.

10 Alien Species That Should Be Terrified the Predator Has Joined the Marvel Universe

Based on the little information that’s been offered about Aliens vs Avengers , it’s clear to see there’s a lot to be excited about. While it’s easy to get swept up in the excitement of the Avengers going toe-to-toe with Xenomorphs, one of the most interesting parts of this upcoming crossover actually has nothing to do with the ‘Alien’ factor, but the Avengers themselves.

Fans are about to see the Avengers as older, grittier versions of themselves, which is far from how fans are used to seeing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the MCU , and that contrast will be an incredibly captivating aspect of Aliens vs Avengers in its own right.

Aliens vs Avengers #1 (of 4) by Marvel Comics/20th Century Studios is available July 24, 2024.

Tom Cruise Was Once Considered For Iron Man, But There Was Another Superhero Movie He Also 'Flirted' With

Two very different flavors of Cruise could have been present in the world of comic movies.

Tom Cruise in Collateral and Jackie Earle Haley in Watchmen, pictured side by side.

You don’t get to be an acting talent like Tom Cruise without racking up an obscene amount of “what if” stories. While we know the man as the lead of the Mission: Impossible movies , and a stunt performing daredevil extraordinaire, there were a couple times in his career that comic book movies came a calling.

And while we already know about Cruise’s potential role in the then developing Iron Man franchise, it turns out that Zack Snyder’s Watchmen was apparently another project that could have seen the star of some of the best action movies in the world playing an anti-hero.

The Watchmen cast

The Watchmen Characters Tom Cruise Was Considered For

As if Zack Snyder’s bombshell about Leonardo DiCaprio being considered for the role of Lex Luthor wasn’t enough of a shock, the director’s Happy Sad Confused interview also yielded this juicy gem. And apparently, while the Rebel Moon director wanted Tom Cruise to play one role, the man behind Ethan Hunt was gunning for the polar opposite. Take a look for yourself:

Tom Cruise wanted to be in WATCHMEN. But only as…wait for it…Rorschach. Another bombshell @ZackSnyder dropped in our chat. The full chat: https://t.co/qDTvcxgxfu pic.twitter.com/uLeM7UMESw April 18, 2024

I’m going to set aside the fact that, like Josh Horowitz, I consider the casting of Watchmen to be perfect. I can’t see either Jackie Earle Haley or Matthew Goode not playing Rorschach or Ozymandias at this point, but for the sake of academic curiosity, I’m going to pretend I can. With that caveat in place, I’d honestly have a hard time picking which role Tom Cruise would be better suited for.

Cruise’s Rorschach feels like it’d be a modified version of his Vincent character from Collateral , whereas Ozymandias would be a variation on his aloof killer archetype as Lestat from Interview with the Vampire . That second scenario would have been a particularly good showcase for Tom, as that character basically launches into a Watchmen ending explained monologue in the third act.

Both characters hold echoes of some of Tom Cruise's best movies. So to all of a sudden hear that Zack Snyder had met with the man to try and cast him in this epic comic adaptation has replaced Iron Man as the greater “what if” for Cruise’s potential career in comic movies. Which, after all this time, is no easy feat.

Tom Cruise tries to shield Hayley Atwell beside a car in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

That Time Tom Cruise ‘Flirted’ With Playing Iron Man

If anyone ever wanted to know how forward thinking Tom Cruise is when it comes to movies, consider this: the man was flirting with comic book movies before the boom had truly taken off. While the ultimate reason for Cruise’s Iron Man refusal was classic Hollywood dealing, the man was circling these sorts of opportunities before they were cool.

Your Daily Blend of Entertainment News

History shook out the way it did, and Robert Downey Jr .’s iconic casting won out. That hasn’t stopped people from pondering over how a Cruise-led Iron Man could have looked. Especially since, on the Tom Cruise Continuum of Characters, Tony Stark feels like a more cavalier and grown up version of Risky Business’ Joel Goodsen.

Twice before we almost saw Tom Cruise landing a comic book movie icon on his resume; and who knows? We might just see him land that sort of role in the future, provided he wants to go down that road. The Multiverse of both DC and Marvel are vast, and there's surely someone Cruise would be down to play in the name of four paneled fun.

As it stands, the Watchmen we have at home is a sterling example of comic book adaptations done right. So should you want to revisit that movie, with or without visions of Tom Cruise participating, you can do just that. At the time of this publication, a Max subscription is all that’s required to catch up once again with those costumed heroes.

Disney Cruise Promises MCU Tour of Avengers: Age of Ultron & Black Panther Locations

Black Panther Ultron Disney Cruise

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have something very exciting to look forward to aboard the  Disney Wish cruise ship when it sets sail in the summer of 2022.

Disney promises the vessel will offer passengers immersive experiences in all of Disney's universes. With rides, stage shows, and kid's clubs, Disney Wish is shaping up to be a first-of-its-kind at-sea experience.

For Marvel lovers, an all-new dining experience will transport guests right into the iconic locations seen in the MCU films.

DISNEY WISH'S CINEMATIC DINING EXPERIENCE

In a new post on the Disney Parks Blog, Danny Handke, Senior Creative Director of Walt Disney Imagineering revealed that Disney Wish's new dining attraction—named Worlds of Marvel—will allow guests to, "....play an interactive role in an action-packed Avengers mission that unfolds around them."  This won't be a rehash of the films either. Handke claims, "the experience will feature an original storyline starring fan-favorite Avengers and an infamous foe."

avengers cruise movie

Fitting with Disney's desire to deliver larger-than-life experiences, Worlds of Marvel, "will up the ante on the traditional “dinner and a show” concept."

Fittingly for its name, the experience will visit Marvel Cinematic Universe locations from films like Avengers: Age of Ultron  and  Black Panther  while giving diners culinary connections to their favorite movies, "...with dishes inspired by legendary locales like African Wakanda, Eastern European Sokovia, and the Avengers’ home base of New York City."

Avengers Cruise Black Panther

CRUISING THROUGH FANTASTIC WORLDS

From Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge   to Avengers Campus , Disney is hard at work to let fans get up close and personal to the worlds they love. Disney seems keen to flex its chops further by delivering a unique experience exclusive to Disney Wish.

Beyond just Worlds of Marvel, Disney Wish will include an exclusive iteration of the Marvel Super Hero Academy attraction currently available on the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, and Disney Fantasy liners. These attractions—in all their forms—have proven wildly successful for the company and their commitment to not only deliver more experiences but entirely new ones is an exciting concept.

While they've yet to commit to as sizable or immersive as Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge for the MCU, it's clear Disney understands the incredible potential the Marvel property offers for their Disney Parks and Disney Cruises divisions. Avengers Campus, combined with experiences like Marvel Super Hero Academy and Worlds of Marvel may be just the experimentation the company needs to move forward with a project on par with the unprecedented scale of  Galaxy's Edge.

For fans hoping to bump shoulders with the heroes, villains, and locales of the Marvel universe, there's never been a time to be more excited about what the future could bring.
