Experiences guaranteed to float your boat.

The YOT Club (image supplied)

Are you a sunset cruise kinda gal or guy? Maybe you want to live your best life aboard a yacht (well at least for a few hours), or fancy dancing up a storm on a boat with renowned DJ’s? Or, perhaps you want to seas the moment and charter a private vessel for that upcoming special event (charter boat, what charter boat?), One thing is clear, whatever floats your boat, the Gold Coast al-waves delivers the ferry best when it comes to anything water-related #amen.

Here are 9 of the Gold Coast’s best boat cruises to try schooner rather than later.

The YOT Club If you like big boats (and you cannot lie) and filling your gram with stylised shots aboard a super yacht with the glitterati, this one’s for you. Licensed for up to 400 guests cruising the beautiful GC and Brissie waters, enjoy private and ticketed events aboard this runaway (or sail away) success story. Just add cocktails, dancing…and boat-tox. This one will not disappoint. Where: Gold Coast Departure Point at Mariners Cove, 60 Seaworld Drive, Main Beach

Gold Coast Gondolas (image supplied)

Gold Coast Gondolas Nothing says romance like a luxurious private gondola and if you want to save the plane fare to Venice, Gold Coast Gondolas is the next best thing. Where: Mariner’s Cove Marina, 60-70 Seaworld Drive, Main Beach

Run Amuk Cruises With an intimate group of 12 people per trip, this 43ft racing yacht offers a variety of half and full-day cruises. Where: 63 Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Spirit of Gold Coast Spirit of Gold Coast don’t just do ‘reely’ cool whale watching tours, they also have a Floating Bar cruise and we need no further ‘anchoragement’. 9 breathtaking waterfalls around the Gold Coast

Curtis Falls waterfall in Tamborine Mountain, Hinterland (image suppled by Destination Gold Coast)

When it comes to impressing visiting family and friends, is there any better way than going on an adventure and chasing a waterfall — or two? Because beyond epic beaches , and one of the world’s most renowned surfing reserves, we also have world heritage listed rainforests and breathtaking surrounds literally right on our doorstep. And the best part about these fantastic places and mind-blowing natural spectacles is they are entirely free!

So we highly recommend you clear your schedule, pack your swimmers and embark on a fun-filled sojourn into the green behind the gold in search of large pieces of falling water. Set your phone to silent and let the serenity feed your soul.

Here are a few of our favourites, all within an hour or so from the Gold Coast .

Beechmont Lip Falls 38.7km from Surfers Paradise Just a 50-minute drive from Surfers Paradise and nestled amongst the Denham Scenic Reserve are the Beechmont rock pools — or Lip Falls as the locals call them. Once you park your car (on Doncaster Road), it’ll only take half an hour to make your way down to the falls. Be aware; these walking paths are steep and narrow and right next to deep gorges. Where: 45-57 Doncaster Dr, Beechmont

Elabana Falls, Lamington National Park (image supplied)

Mt Tamborine Cedar Creek Falls 44km from Surfers Paradise Cedar Creek Falls are one of the better-known waterfalls on Mt Tamborine and a popular destination for locals and tourists alike (be warned – it can get quite busy). Your best bet is to explore the area via the Cedar Creek Circuit (3.2km), which will take you along all the cascades and rock pools. Where: Cedar Creek Falls Rd, Tamborine Mountain – To get there, take Tamborine Mountain Road until you get to Cedar Creek Falls Road, just past the information map stopping bay on the left. From there, it’s only a short drive down a narrow road and across a small creek before coming to the Cedar Creek Falls section and the car park at its entrance.

Curtis Falls 39.2km from Surfers Paradise It’s a short, beautiful walk through the rain-drenched Eucalyptus forest to the magical Curtis Falls. You’ll wander past towering trees and through a canopy of ferns, down to this miniature and photogenic waterfall. There are lots of cute creatures to spot along the way too, keep an eye for resident platypuses and wallabies. The walk should only talk half an hour or less to get down to the falls, but you will likely want to stay awhile and soak up the peacefulness. It’s just a 1.1km round trip, so you can knock it over in the early morning then stop for a spot of morning tea at the Curtis Falls Cafe. Where: 16 Eagle Heights Rd, North Tamborine  – Get there via Eagle Heights Road and park right at the entrance to the walk.

Natural Bridge, Springbrook National Park (image supplied)

Lamington National Park Elabana Falls 67.4 km from Surfers Paradise Elabana Falls are certainly a hidden gem located amongst Lamington National Park close to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat (a great spot to grab a bite to eat after your waterfall adventure). Park your car at O’Reilly’s and make your way through the rainforest, past Picnic Rock and further downhill for another 400 metres until you reach the cascading falls. Make sure you refresh yourself with a snack or sit down before embarking on your way back up; it gets pretty steep! Where: Lamington National Park Rd, Canungra

Springbrook National Park Natural Bridge 47 km from Surfers Paradise As you probably know, Natural Bridge is a heavenly cave-like rock formation at Springbrook National Park that is home to glow worms and a colony of tiny bent-wing bats – it’s also one of the most photographed spots on the Gold Coast . Start the short one-kilometre rainforest walk clockwise to the Natural Bridge rock arch to get down to the action. Where: Nerang-Murwillumbah Rd, Springbrook – It’s super easy to find; just follow Nerang-Murwillumbah Road until you get to the car park signage at Bakers Road.

Purling Brook Falls, Springbrook (image supplied by Destination Gold Coast)

Twin Falls 40.6km from Surfers Paradise Start your 4km journey through the sub-tropical rainforest from the Tallabana picnic area or Canyon lookout in an anticlockwise direction. You’ll reach a small bridge, flowing water and immense rock formations after a couple of minutes (perfect for an Insta snap ). Keep hiking down the track until you come across two rushing waterfalls. At the base of Twin Falls — after a worthy hike — you’ll find a large rock pool perfect for a rewarding swim ! Where: Canyon Pde, Springbrook

Purling Brook Falls (image supplied by Destination Gold Coast)

Purling Brook Falls 37km from Surfers Paradise The Purling Brook Falls are immense, towering at over 100 meters in height and are naturally best visited after rainfall. Start your 2 hour hike clockwise along a scenic and elevated path into a subtropical gorge to view the amazing falls from below. Venture further down the track until you reach waterholes that are great for swimming . When you have had enough, prepare for a steady climb up through the rainforest, which will bring you back to the picnic area. Where: 63 Gwongorella Parade, Springbrook

Minyon Falls lookout in Nightcap National Park. (Photo credit: Jimmy Malecki)

Northern NSW Minyon Falls 113km from Surfers Paradise Yes, we know the following two locations aren’t on the Gold Coast , they aren’t even in Queensland, but it will take you a short drive along what is probably the most breathtaking scenic drive, until you reach Nightcap National Park in Northern NSW. Make sure you come prepared because getting to Minyon Falls can be quite the journey (well worth it, though). We recommend you start with Minyon Falls Lookout, providing you with outstanding views before adventuring further downstream towards the base of the falls. Where: Nightcap National Park, Newton Dr, Nightcap

Killen Falls 108 km from Surfers Paradise Killen Falls are undoubtedly one of the most epic waterfalls to dive into with its large swimming hole and rock pools. The rock has been eroded significantly behind the waterfall, forming an impressive cave. Ever wanted to take a waterfall shower? Well, at Killen Falls, that’s not a problem as you can swim across the pool and climb up the rocks just to sit right underneath the falling water. Where: Killen Falls Dr, Tintenbar – Killen Falls are super easy to find, just minutes off the Pacific Highway near Byron Bay .

Twin Falls, Springbrook (Image from Destination Gold Coast)

But it’s important to remember, whilst it’s tempting (and refreshing) to go for a swim in the rock pools and lagoons, it’s prohibited in some, so please adhere to any safety signs and be 100% sure it’s safe to swim  before diving in. Also, be sure to pack closed-in shoes, plenty of water, mozzie repellent and sunscreen (the sun will still get you between the canopy).

Last but not least, take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints behind!

6 local activities for an adrenaline rush

Gold Coast Skydive (image supplied)

There has always been a section of the populous that actively enjoys being scared out of their wits. We’re talking about the ones who watch scary movies in the dark and will stand as close as possible to the edge of a terribly high drop — all in the name of a better view, right? Or maybe you’re more the person who gets their thrills by turning the toaster up in the morning and pushing the limits of how much to toast your sourdough before it burns.

Whether you are one of these people or not, it’s fair to say we all like to have our hearts rush, just in varying degrees, it seems!

So, when the only means to make your day is to have an extreme injection of adrenaline, you’ll be pleased to learn we have some adrenaline-pumping activates right here at home. No travel required. Read on to learn where you can make your heart skip a beat — all you thrill-seekers out there!

Skydive For obvious reasons, this one is right up there when it comes to adrenaline rushes. Throw yourself out of a perfectly good plane and hurtle through the sky reaching 200 km/h in just 7 seconds — sure, why not, sounds like fun. The gang at Gold Coast Skydive have you covered with skydives that will have you soaring through the sky above the Pacific Ocean before coming to a soft landing on the prettiest patch of sand around: Kirra Beach , no less. The instructors are seasoned professionals, but if you’ve never done this before, and you find yourself at the door about to jump, do not underestimate what’s about to happen! Where: Gold Coast Skydive, 18 Coyne Street, Coolangatta

Slingshot (Image: © 2018 Inside Gold Coast)

Sling Shot Usually, extreme activities, such as bungee jumping and skydiving, take place in wide-open spaces well away from crowds and onlookers. Not with Sling Shot. This jolt of excitement is sure to get even the hardiest of action seekers hearts’ racing. Found just off the beach in Surfers Paradise , this attraction has one sole purpose: to propel its participants skywards at alarming speed! How does accelerating to 160 km/h and reaching over 80 metres high whilst experiencing 6G of atmospheric pressure sound? We’d recommend this one before dinner, folks. Where: 6 Palm Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Hang Gliding Did you know that southeast Queensland is a mecca for hang gliding and parasailing? Why not incorporate glorious mountain vistas into having a death-defying experience at the same time? There’s no better way to take in the hinterland from high up above with another qualified human strapped to your back. Launch sites include the picturesque Beechmont and high above the valley floor, Mt Tamborine . Strap in with SE QLD Hang Gliding and experience the actual feeling of flying — sans jet engine! Where: 92/118 Tamborine Mountain Road, North Tamborine

Go Karting Car racing was definitely our career in a former life for reasons we don’t need to discuss here. The relevance though, is that driving a car around a track at super-fast speeds is a good time and the ultimate adrenaline rush. Shrink that down into a mini version complete with helmets and the possibility of beating your friends and you’ve got yourself an adrenaline rush. Test your racing skills at one of these sweet spots (we’ve got discounts too!): Kingston Park Raceway or  Slideways Go Karting

boat trips gold coast

SkyPoint Climb You may be reasonably chilled stepping into the elevator and ascending a staggering 77 levels to the Observation Deck . But no friends, that is not the adrenaline rush part just yet. Once on top of the Q1 — Australia’s tallest building — above the golden sand of Surfers Paradise , you’ll be 270 metres up in the clouds for 90 minutes, just strolling around gazing at 360-degree views of the Gold Coast at your leisure. It’s beautiful and terrifying and an absolute Gold Coast must-do for visitors and locals alike. Where: SkyPoint Observation Deck , 9 Hamilton Avenue, Surfers Paradise

Jet Ski Safaris Skimming across pristine water at high speed whilst experiencing a side of the northern Gold Coast you’re unlikely to have seen is what you can expect from Gold Coast Jet Ski Safaris . And the best part? You get to drive the ski, and there’s no need for experience or a license. Take a ski to yourself or pair up with somebody you trust, as the high-speed jinks offered range from a quick 30-minute blast to a grander 2.5 hr exploration of South Stradbroke and nearby mangroves — with an obligatory stop off at a beachside bar of course! Where: 7A 60-70 SeaWorld Drive, Main Beach

Splash out with these 3 re-opened Gold Coast water activities

boat trips gold coast

With the news that we’re allowed to do fun activities outside again (besides exercise) some Gold Coast businesses have been allowed to re-open and get those good times flowing.

Because we understand that you’ve all about reached your indoor limit for 2020, we’d thought we’d collate some of our favourites for you.

Here they are, enjoy yourselves (at a safe distance).

Jet Ski Safaris Flying around on a jet ski is a very good time. And a thing you can now do again. Jet Ski Safaris are the people to see, they offer tours through the Gold Coast Broadwater and as of right now there’s 25% OFF all of them. Take the family along for some much-needed adrenaline rushes. Further info here .

GoBoat Rent a GoBoat with your family (or hoursemate) and enjoy the waterways of the Gold Coast from a totally new angle. Patricia Azzopardi

Thank you to the crew for making our Sea Cruise along Surfers and Gold Coast a great experience. Buffet lunch was super, service was impeccable. Will do the night cruise next time we visit. This is a must.

Lee Buttler

What a pleasant surprise this cruise was! Hubby and I went in the lunch cruise today, and I knew the second I stepped on board I would enjoy myself. I was really impressed with the boat: clean, modern and comfortable. The top deck was fantastic. After lunch, we stayed upstairs in the sun and beautiful fresh air. Lunch was perfect. The staff were fantastic and really interactive, always touching base with us to see if there was anything we needed and if we were happy. The view of the shores, houses and Gold Coast were absolutely beautiful. We even saw some dolphins!!

Tips for Planning Luxury Cruises on the Gold Coast Broadwater

If you are planning a day out or a weekend away in the waters off the Gold Coast, here are some tips to make your escape more enjoyable.

  •  Time of Year – Firstly, know which time of the year you want to book a luxury boat charter on the Gold Coast. Weather plays a big part in the type of experience you are seeking. For instance, during peak summer, it’s often hot and humid, and rain can be frequent and heavy. During the winter, it is drier; however, the evenings can be cold. Fortunately, you don’t have to let the rain bother you too much. Our yacht has many indoor spaces for you to enjoy and the Back Deck and Saloon are completely weather-proof.
  • Food and Drinks – With our commercial-size kitchen,  you can hire a caterer and enjoy professionally-prepared dishes. Or, you can throw some snags on the BBQ and chat as you share a casual lunch togethr.  We have all the platters, plates and cutlery you could possibly require so there is no need to bring any plastic plates or utensils onboard during your luxury boat hire.
  • Time of Day – Do you enjoy the sunset and the stars or want a warm day for swimming and sun-bathing on the bow of the MV Bacchus? You may choose to enjoy the sunset with bubbly and light snacks to watch the lights of Surfers Paradise and sneak a peek inside the waterfront mansions as you cruise the Broadwater under the stars.  The MV Bacchus is well-lit for socialising under the stars with twinkling bistro lights on the Sky Lounge at the bow.
  • Swimming or Socialising? You need to discuss any swimming options with our Booking Agent beforehand as the Broadwater can have dangerous tides and currents and not all cruise times are suitable for swimming.  The size of the MV Bacchus makes it difficult to anchor too close to land so swimmers must be proficient.   The MV Bacchus has a swim mat onboard and range of floatation toys for guests to enjoy.  There is also a new 16-foot water trampoline available.  Ask our booking agent Janine about it.

How can Gold Coast Luxury Boat Charters help you?

There are many ways for you to use our well-appointed luxury yacht:

Corporate Events : Plan your next corporate event on a chartered boat. Having your corporate event on a luxury yacht will not only impress your guests, but it will offer your staff a VIP experience in which you can show them how much they mean to the functioning of your company.

Parties and Special Occasions : You can also use a yacht for special occasions such as an engagement party, a wedding anniversary, a wedding, or even a hens or bucks party. Not only will the setting and the views impress your guests − but having this as your background for your photos will be pure magic.

Family Fun Days : Another option is to charter a yacht simply to unwind. Once onboard, you can enjoy a sunset, or luxuriate in a mini holiday or by spending time on board for a weekend trip away with friends or family. You can either swim or simply work on your tan the choice is up to you.

Just wanted to say thanks for an awesome trip. The boat was absolutely beautiful, and the service was excellent! You all seem like such lovely people, who really enjoy what you do. My daughter Mia is still talking about how much she enjoyed the experience.  Thanks again.

More FAQ's

Our boats are berthed at Marina Mirage. Please see the ‘contact us’ page on our website for further details and a map. Marina Mirage is about 10 mins from Surfers and 15 mins from Broadbeach.

Where can I park?

There is plentiful free parking at Marina Mirage/Mariners Cove which you are permitted to use.  Please check signage at time of parking and if parking overnight consider street parking to avoid towing.

What about other transport options?

There are lots of ways to get to the boat! The most popular (and cost effective/convenient) is often via Maxi Taxis.

I am short on time can you please help me out with catering/drinks?

Yes, we also offer catering and drinks service for your convenience. Please request our full catering list as advance bookings are required. We offer a range of catering options from grazing boards, to canapes and private chefs.

(Catering and drinks service options may be affected by Government restrictions due to Covid, please check at the time of your charter what the current restrictions are)

Do you have Eskies on board?

Yes we have Fridges & Eskies and we also provide ice.

Where can we go on our charter?

We mainly operate in the calm, protected waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater. Where to go very much depends on what you would like to do and how long your boat charter is for so please feel free to discuss this with our team. In a 3 hour charter during the day our guests usually love a swim stop at Wavebreak Island where you can enjoy the range of island activities on board. Your skipper is knowledgeable in the local area and will make recommendations based on the conditions on the day.  If you don’t wish to swim in a 3 hour charter you instead opt to sail further north along the inside of South Stradbroke Island and see the millionaires mansions at Sovereign Islands.

In the evening we will generally sail north to watch the sunset and return to the southern part of the Broadwater to enjoy the city lights after dark which are just beautiful.

Will I get seasick?

We mainly operate in the calm, protected waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater. If we go offshore (into the open ocean) there is a possibility of large waves.

Are your charters suitable for guests with limited mobility?

We have welcomed several guests on board with limited mobility. However we do realise that each individual is different in terms of ability and what they are comfortable with. Please take a look at the 360 tours on the ‘ Our Boats ‘ page for an ideal of getting around the boats and do bear in mind a big step up (or carry) is required to board the boats at the marina. Our friendly team will be happy to discuss further to ensure you and your guests are comfortable prior to making a booking.

Top tip: Bird feeding times are at 8am and 4pm each day and participation is free with your entry.

Glow Worm experience

I wish I was a glow worm,

For they are never glum,

They have a little light,

That shines right out their bum.

Show your kids the magic that are glow worms located on the Gold Coast. Well, technically the glow worms are in the hinterland of the Gold Coast at Mt Tamborine. You can see them during the day or at night as they are located in caves within the rainforest. The bushwalk is easy and the path is well marked and suitable for children. This is a great experience for kids, and I highly recommend it! It’s one of the most unique and best things to do on the Gold Coast of Australia with kids of all ages.

You can book a guided 4WD tour to see the glow worms here.

Best beach on the Gold Coast for kids is Burleigh

Easily the best beach on the Gold Coast for families is Burleigh Beach. Known just as Burleigh to the locals, this is one of the most beautiful beaches along the Gold Coast. Your kids will be safe swimming in the protected waters of the beach, which isn’t as rough as some of the other beaches around the Gold Coast.

BBQ areas are everywhere and with the option of oceanfront dining, you and the kids won’t be going hungry. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a local arts and crafts market going on along the foreshore.

If you’re looking for a great beach to visit, check out Burleigh Heads.

Currumbin Rock Pools

One of the Gold Coast’s best-kept secrets for kids, this local swimming spot has an added bonus – it’s also free! If you want to escape the heat, hustle of the bustling Gold Coast, and you fancy swimming, but not at the beach, then pack a picnic and head for the hills where you can cool your heels at the Currumbin rock pools. The Currumbin rock pools are one of our favourite free Gold Coast activities for families.

Read a detailed review about our trip to the Currumbin rock pools here.

Gold Coast Aqua Park

The Gold Coat Aqua Park, located in Southport is suitable for adults and children to bounce, slide and have fun on over 300m of inflatables on the water. The aqua park is an affordable way to spend an hour or so they will really wear the kids out in the afternoon, especially if you have a quiet evening planned. The Aqua Park is nestled opposite Australia Fair Shopping Centre, and the Broadwater Parklands, so if you all have energy to spare you can always keep going at these family friendly attractions on the Gold Coast.

SkyPoint Observation Deck

Want to travel 77 floors up and see the Gold Coast from upon high? SkyPoint!! Located in the heart of Surfers Paradise, Skypoint Observation Deck is Australia’s only beachside observation deck. Not only can you get great views from up high, but you will also find a restaurant, a small history display of the Gold Coast and during schools holidays they have different shows for the kids.

Find out more about SkyPoint including pricing here.
