We can define tourism as traveling to various popular tourist and heritage locations in the state, country or anywhere in the world. How to Write a 4 Minute Speech Correctly

The ability to clearly communicate ideas to others will serve to advance you both professionally and socially. Knowing that you can communicate well generates self-confidence in your ability to lead groups and conduct meetings. Grasping the fundamentals of effective communication will improve your conflict management skills and afford you the ability to have more productive conversations with your friends, your significant other, and your children. Communicating clearly is an easy skill to master once you understand the basic process for public speaking.

Think about your audience before you actually write down anything. This is a crucial aspect of public speaking, whether you plan to speak for four minutes or for forty minutes. Ask yourself what images from their lives you can use while speaking that will interest them. Monitor any jokes that you plan to tell to make sure they will not be offensive. Ask yourself what kind of speech will earn their attention and respect. Attention from any group is extremely hard to earn. If you do not make the effort to think through how your audience will perceive your speech, you may fail to write a speech that will communicate with them.

Research your topic well. You might have to go to the library, or you may be able to research the subject online. After you speak, you might also be asked questions. If you appear to be unprepared to answer those questions, or if you demonstrate only a shallow knowledge of the topic, you will lose credibility.

Summarize your research in three sentences or less, and write the sentences down. These are your main points. Most people cannot remember more than three points. If you must make more than three points, provide a handout that your audience can follow as you speak. Your main ideas should be in bold print.

Outline your talk. Traditional speeches have three parts: an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Use your introduction to entice people to listen, and to establish rapport with your audience. Consider thanking them for giving you the opportunity to talk. Your introduction should take less than a minute of your talk. For the next two or three minutes, develop the ideas you summarized earlier. This will be the body of your talk. In the last thirty seconds or so, wrap up your talk by briefly reiterating what you have said, and why it matters.

It takes most people between four to five minutes to read two pages of double-spaced twelve point font, so if your entire talk is a little shy of two full pages, you should be on track. Many people write one paragraph for their introduction, and one paragraph for their conclusion. Allow one full paragraph per idea in the body of your speech.

Decide how extemporaneous you will be. Just because you have written a speech does not mean you have to read it. You can read your speech, you can write notes on index cards and unobtrusively use them. or you can memorize your introduction, body and conclusion. All three methods have their merits, so weigh your options.

Practice your speech in front of a friendly, but honest, audience. Ask for constructive criticism and suggestions. When first beginning to speak in public, many people have annoying mannerisms of which they are not conscious. Such distracting habits include throat clearing, saying "ummm..." in between sentences, speaking too quickly, or involuntary body movements. It may also be helpful for you to practice in front of a mirror. If there is something you need to avoid saying or doing, write a reminder to yourself at the top of the pages of your speech.

It's a good idea to look in the mirror before you give your speech. You probably don't have lettuce stuck in your teeth, but any misgivings about how you look will make you less self-confident.
Try to avoid taking a glass of water up to the podium with you for a four-minute speech. If you have to pause during your speech to take a drink some people will begin to daydream.
Make sure that you are dressed appropriately.

The 4-Minute Persuasive Speech

Use four sticky notes to make a persuasive speech.

How would you persuade one million people to change their minds? What if it was 1917—before radio, television, or the internet?

George Creel faced this exact problem at the start of World War I. The American government had joined the war and mobilized troops, but the public wasn’t on board with fighting “Europe’s War.”

The president tasked Creel with boosting public opinion for the war. But how? Back then, getting a message to the public was hard. The only medium of mass communication was newspapers, which were already saturated with daily stories about the war.

As Creel considered his options, Donald Ryerson, a Chicago businessman, interrupted to pitch a solution.

What are Americans already doing that we could use to share our message?

At the time, millions of Americans went to the movies every week. Halfway through each movie, the show stopped for 4 minutes so workers could switch the film reels. Ryerson believed those 4 minutes were the perfect time to deliver a message to a captive audience.

Ryerson proposed creating what he called 4 Minute Men—a grassroots network of thousands of people from local towns to go and give speeches during these brief intermissions. The speakers would focus on a single issue and call the audience to a single action. 1

Creel loved the idea so much that he put Ryerson in charge. Ryerson got to work, and his team recruited and trained over 75,000 local speakers and wrote hundreds of persuasive speeches for them. 2 Throughout the war, the 4 Minute Men gave almost one million speeches. They persuaded people to support the war in big and small ways with calls to action, such as “Donate your binoculars for Navy sailors,” “Buy Liberty Bonds to fund the war,” and “Know how to spot ‘German propaganda.’” 3

The 4 Minute Men program worked because it stuck to a persuasive formula. Grab your audience’s attention. Have a single point. Be quick (less than 4 minutes). Always have an action for the audience to take.

While these grassroots speaking tactics later evolved alongside the rise of the radio and television, their persuasive speech principles still work.

When creating a short, persuasive speech, use the 4-Minute Formula:

One Call to Action

First, ask yourself, “What’s the one point I want my audience to remember?” Brainstorm and write down your answer. The one point is the path of your speech. Everything else your speech includes—the question, story, and call to action—should trace back to your one point.

Once you’ve decided on your one point, it’s time to outline your speech. Grab four sticky notes and write bullet points for each section.

Start your speech with one question framed around your one point. You want to pique your audience’s curiosity so they’ll listen to learn the answer.

Next, tell them one story that answers the question. The more memorable, the better.

After your story, explicitly state the one point you want them to remember. Ideally, say it in a compelling and sticky way.

Close with one call to action for your audience—the one thing you want them to do or think about because of your speech.

If you are in need of a quick boost of inspiration and motivation, you will find that in this post. I am one of those people who loves to get motivated. That sounds weird, right?

Well, a lot of people these days tend to give motivation a hard time because they don’t believe that it has lasting effects. In other words, they believe that what’s most important is your own self-discipline, because that’s what you have to rely on when motivation isn’t there.

And while I do agree with that sentiment in general, I will never pass up a great motivational podcast or YouTube video! 😀 There’s just something about them that even if they might not have lasting effects, they do truly help pump me up in the moment to get work done. And that’s usually what matters to me the most when I am looking for them in the first place.

So, here are the very best short motivational speeches so you can get that quick fix of motivation that you’re looking for, and ultimately move closer to your goals and dreams.

1. Rocky’s Inspirational Speech to His Son | ROCKY BALBOA

In less than 5 minutes, you’ll watch Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) explain to his son that if he wants to have the life he desires, he needs to believe in himself. He needs to stop listening to the people that tell him who he is, and instead go be his own person, and stop looking for someone to blame when things aren’t working out for him because ultimately it’s on HIM. This is one of the greatest inspirational speeches of all time.

2. Find Your Purpose | David Goggins – Motivational Speech

David Goggins is truly incredible. A former Navy SEAL, he has broken records and ran more races than you’d imagine. But the one thing that really stands out about him is his mindset.

Listen to this video if you want to be great. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get there.

Also, if you’ve never read David Goggins’ book “Can’t Hurt Me” , I highly recommend it. He talks about his rough upbringing, and how he was able to essentially become an entirely new person to become a Navy SEAL.

This YouTube short by Mel Robbins is so good, I had to share it. A light bulb went on in my head when I first watched this. If there is something that is always on your mind, don’t let it haunt you forever because you never put yourself out there to try it. Go and DO!

If you do these things, the next generation, and the generations that follow, will live better lives than we live today.

18. The Real You – Jim Carrey

This video is one of the best motivational speech examples because it reminds you of something so important: sometimes we can be so focused on earning more money, gaining fame, and becoming admired that we lose ourselves or we lose sight of what’s really important to us in the process.

Jim Carrey talks about how he is a great example of that. He got all of the money, fame, and admiration, and admits that that wasn’t really who he was. Sometimes it’s nice to be reminded that money and fame, or even getting to the top of the corporate ladder, while nice, aren’t going to be the thing that brings you fulfillment when it’s all said and done.

It can be confusing to calculate on your own when you need to know how many words you need for a speech. According to a four-minute speech, the word count depends on more than one variable. However, what it mostly comes down to is average reading speed. If you know your average reading speed and speech patterns, you can usually determine speech length down to a roughly accurate number of words needed for however many minutes of speech you need.

This article will tell you how many words is a 4 minute speech and how to calculate the word count for it and other speech lengths. Giving a speech can be a nervous endeavor on its own. Figuring out how many words you need to write to get to the required time for a speech or a time limit only makes things more stressful. We will cover how to do it without breaking a sweat.

What is Average Reading Speed?

The average reading speed is exactly as it sounds, it refers to how many words a person can typically read (on average) per minute. Asked if he spoke to Daniels during various encounters, Davidson said, “I think I had a brief conversation with Stormy and Gina ... but most of my conversations I believe were with Gina.”

He said that he sent a cease-and-desist letter for Daniels. "There was a blog post or a story posted on the website that stated that Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump had some sort of physical romantic interaction," he testified.

Davidson said he spoke to Michael Cohen by phone and "before I could even get my name out, I was just met with a hostile barrage of insults."

"I don’t think he was accusing us of anything, he was just screaming," Davidson said.

According to Davidson, Cohen thought the story was leaked by Daniels and Davidson said he was calling because Daniels didn't want the story published. He said he was successful and had the story taken down.

More testimony about ABC News trying to secure McDougal interview

Davidson testified that as part of his negotiations with ABC News in possibly having it break the story of McDougal’s alleged affair with Trump, ABC News dangled the opportunity for McDougal to appear on a future season of “Dancing With the Stars.”

“It was discussed a lot,” Davidson said of McDougal appearing on a future season of the long-running show. “There was an inference that best efforts would be made that would happen. But it was never guaranteed. Best efforts were discussed.”

Davidson testified that Rhonda Schwartz, a producer for Brian Ross, was calling regularly to try to secure the interview.

Davidson ended discussions with ABC News after signing a catch-and-kill agreement with American Media Inc., the publisher of National Enquirer.

ABC News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Davidson said National Enquirer wanted to help McDougal and Trump by buying the story

The prosecution asked Davidson why he thought National Enquirer purchased the McDougal story if it didn't intend to print it.

Davidson responded that there were two goals: to help build McDougal up as a brand and to help Donald Trump by not exposing the affair.

He went on to say in his testimony that “there was an unspoken understanding” that there was a close affiliation between David Pecker and Trump.

One text that former National Enquirer editor-in-chief Dylan Howard sent to Davidson said, appearing to refer to Karen McDougal, "She’ll get more out of a deal with AMI than ABC and I’m happy to sign some sort of agreement that alleviates..."

Another from Davidson to Howard said, “Let’s try and wrap up Karen’s deal. She is getting repeated calls from Rhonda Schwartz.” She was a producer at ABC News.

"We are figuring out the mechanics of the deal already," Howard texted Davidson.

Davidson also texted Howard about then-AMI general counsel Cameron Stracher, “He wants me to call Cohen. U think that’s okay? I’ve been trying like hell to avoid that.”

Trump posted on Truth Social just minutes before returning to court Tuesday afternoon and less than an hour after other posts — which Judge Merchan had ordered to be deleted in accordance with his gag order — were taken down.

Keith Davidson's disposition on the witness stand is notable. His speech is monotone, without a lot of elaboration and seemingly avoiding colorful language.

The Trump campaign swiftly moved to fundraise off of the fine the former president received for violating Merchan’s gag order, sending an email this morning arguing that the fine is part of an effort to “silence” him.

“A Democrat judge JUST HELD ME IN CONTEMPT OF COURT!” an email from the Trump campaign this morning reads. “I was fined $9,000 for 9 gag order violations. THEY WANT TO SILENCE ME!

The email goes onto decry the gag order as an “undeniable election interference” effort and includes a link to contribute financially to his campaign.

Keith Davidson describes meeting in which McDougal alleged affair with Trump for 'several weeks to months'

Davidson said that by June 20, 2016, Dylan Howard texted him that he had landed and was en route to Davidson’s office, where they met with McDougal, Jay Giardina (her ex-brother-in-law), and a man named Johnny Crawford, a friend of McDougal's.

At that meeting, McDougal alleged she had had a romantic and sexual affair with Donald Trump for “several weeks to months” some years prior.

"Mr. Pecker published Trump magazine, and at the time, AMI had announced, kind of announced explicitly that they had endorsed Mr. Trump’s candidacy," Davidson continued.

Howard had gone on to text Davidson asking if Trump cheated on Melania Trump or if the affair with McDougal happened during his marriage with her.

Davidson had responded, "I really can’t say yet, sorry," in a text. He testified today that he hadn't been prepared to discuss the details at that point.

“This whole country is up in arms breaking into colleges ... they took over a building,” he said, referring to news this morning of the occupation of Hamilton Hall at Columbia University by pro-Palestinian students.

The criminal trial of Donald Trump resumes in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday with a focus on the hush money transaction that’s at the center of the allegations against the former president.

The first witness of the day will be Gary Farro , a banker who worked with then-Trump lawyer Michael Cohen when Cohen, Trump’s self-described “fixer,” paid adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet during the 2016 presidential campaign about her allegation that she had a sexual encounter with Trump a decade earlier. Trump denies her claim.

Farro, who in 2016 was an executive at First Republic Bank, testified Friday that Cohen reached out to him in mid-October of that year to set up a bank account for a company he was forming called Essential Consultants LLC.

Cohen described the company to the bank “as a real estate consulting company to collect fees for investment consulting work he does for real estate deals,” Farro told jurors. Prosecutors characterized it as a shell company that was set up to mask the source of the payment, which was made shortly before Election Day.

One America News Network retracted an article Monday that said former President Donald Trump’s onetime attorney Michael Cohen had had an affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels .

The March 27 article from the conservative news outlet quoted a post on X from a user who falsely claimed to have obtained information in 2018 from Daniels’ then-attorney, Michael Avenatti. Citing Avenatti, the post claimed that Cohen and Daniels had been having an affair since 2006 and that Cohen “cooked up” the hush money scheme to extort the Trump Organization ahead of the 2016 election.

“To be clear, no evidence suggests that Mr. Cohen and Ms. Daniels were having an affair and no evidence suggests that Mr. Cohen ‘cooked up’ the scheme to extort the Trump Organization before the 2016 election,” OAN said in a statement Monday.

The network said it was taking the story down “from all sites,” as well as “all social media.”

“This retraction is part of a settlement reached with Michael Cohen. Mr. Avenatti has denied making the allegations,” the statement said. “OAN apologizes to Mr. Cohen for any harm the publication may have caused him.”

I n less than a month, people will look to the sky as the moon passes between the sun and the Earth in a celestial event known as a total solar eclipse . The phenomenon is set for April 8, 2024, and the next one that can be seen from contiguous United States will be August 2044 , so it's unsurprising that eclipse fever has gripped the nation. Between 1 and 4 million people are predicted to travel to the path of totality, joining the 31 million people already living within it.

Among the tours, cruises, hotels, and even scenic flights offering their own spin on the total solar eclipse experience, here are six tips that last-minute planners should keep in mind for the special day.

1. Figure out where you want to go

There are 13 U.S. states on the path of this year's eclipse: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine (small parts of Tennessee and Michigan are also in the path). Among all of these states, totality will occur in two national parks-Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas and Cuyahoga National Park in Ohio-and they're expected to get crowded. Instead, consider one of the more than 100 state parks along the path, some of which are more off the radar. If you're more of a city dweller, you can also experience totality in big cities, including San Antonio, Austin, Cleveland, and Rochester.

Consider the weather, too. According to NOAA 's past weather records, April weather seems to bring more chances of rain-meaning more potential for cloud coverage-in the Northeast than in the South.

2. Consider the length of totality

Aiming for a destination in the path of totality is a no-brainer, although the amount of totality you'll get depends on where you go. The closer to the center of the path of totality an area is, the longer the total eclipse lasts. Take Austin and Dallas: While both are on the path of totality, Austin will get 1 minute and 46 seconds of totality, while Dallas will get 3 minutes and 52 seconds of totality. The longest duration you can get for totality is about 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Particularly traveler-friendly spots to maximize your time in the dark are Texas Hill Country towns like Kerrville (which will receive around 4 minutes and 24 seconds of totality and is partnering with NASA) and Fredericksburg (which is set to get 4 minutes 23 seconds of totality). Texas Hill Country is also one of AFAR's best places to go in 2024 .

3. Consider camping

If you want a solar eclipse experience surrounded by nature rather than people, camping may suit you better. But booking developed campgrounds at state parks and well-known nature spots will likely be difficult at this point. As an alternative, check for privately owned land through platforms like Hipcamp or look for dispersed camping sites in a national forest, like Ozark National Forest or Green Mountain National Forest . While backcountry spots may not have amenities, they can be perfect for those seeking solitude.

In addition, be sure to check the capacity of a park when it comes to handling the influx of visitors for April 8. As an example, Erie's tourism board is discouraging visits to Presque Isle State Park to prevent bottleneck traffic from its one entry and exit point.

4. Look into a town, festival, or last-minute tour

Plenty of places within the path of totality are putting their own spin on the solar eclipse with dedicated festivities. Get an educational experience at Rochester Museum & Science Center's ROC the Eclipse Festival , a three-day event that includes talks titled "Frontiers of Plasma Physics" and "The Search for Earth-Like Planets" from science experts. Or lean into grandeur at the four-day Texas Eclipse Festival in Burnet, Texas; its lineup includes music performances, yoga sessions, and immersive art experiences. If the mere thought of navigating trip logistics brings a headache, check for the availability of some solar eclipse tours. Some tours still have availability, like Holland America Line's whopping 22-day Solar Eclipse cruise tour through North America. Others, like Travel Quest's Mexico's Copper Canyon Total Solar Eclipse tour , only have wait-list spots. But don't give up hope: As last-minute cancellations roll in, a quick call could secure you a place.

5. Try to get a last-minute spot at hotels in the path of totality

Hotels are leaning into the solar eclipse experience too, and properties are throwing celebrations and dedicated solar eclipse events just for the event. Miraval Austin Resort and Spa is hosting a viewing session with its astrologer, while Hôtel Swexan in Dallas is offering solar eclipse wellness activities on the evening of April 8 that includes meditation, a sound bath, and a Reiki healing session.

Keep in mind that a last-minute booking may cost a premium. Properties all across the band of totality are recording sky-high prices -even budget hotels . Similar to booking tours, do your due diligence and call to check for a cancellation.

6. Come prepared

Of course, you should wear solar eclipse glasses to prevent permanent damage to your eyes. If you're going to an event, check to see if they will be provided or if you'll need to bring your own. If you don't want to buy them, you can use household materials like cardboard to make your own pinhole projector , a contraption that allows you to see the sun change shape as the moon crosses in front of it.

In addition to bringing materials for the day of the event, anticipate what happens next. The length of totality is less than five minutes, but the traffic afterwards may disrupt your plans for hours. If you're coming from a crowded park or city, be on the safe side and come prepared with extra snacks and water.
