Goats of Warding are Resident Evil Village ’s collectibles. In this guide, we’ll help you find every goat location scattered around RE8 with screenshots and maps and directions to all 20.

We’ve organized our Resident Evil Village collectibles guide chronologically. The earliest goat locations available are at the top. Because we don't want to ruin anything for you, we’ve also deployed our spoiler image, which nudges some spoilerly goat location content down the page a bit.

Underground

Look everywhere. We know that sounds obvious, but finding light brown things in a dimly lit, often light brown game is really difficult. Look everywhere.

There is a way to tell if you’re near a Goat of Warding: Listen for the sound of its tiny head nodding. It’s subtle. It’s easy to miss. But if you’re standing within, say, 10 feet of a Goat of Warding (and there’s no loud sounds to drown it out), you can hear it bobbing to an inaudible beat.

At least you can with some of them.

The Village Goats of Warding locations

At the beginning of the game, there are three Goats of Warding to find and destroy in The Village.

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding The Village Graveyard

The first Goat of Warding is in a shrine along the main path, just north of the Maiden of War statue.

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible The Village Church map location

This Goat of Warding is perched on the roof of the Church. We don’t know how it got there.

Fallow Plot

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible Fallow Plot map location.jpg

This Goat of Warding is sitting on the roof in a corner of the Fallow Plot. It’s probably best to come back for this one later in Resident Evil Village , given that you’re not exactly equipped to mow down a bunch of werewolves the first time you enter the area.

Castle Dimitrescu Goats of Warding locations

There are three Goats of Warding in and around Castle Dimitrescu.

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding Castle Dimitrescu collectible Vineyard map location

As you make your way up to Castle Dimitrescu’s front door, explore the vineyard to the east. This Goat of Warding is super difficult to see nestled among the snow off the path through the vines. Use our map and screenshot above to orient yourself.

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding Castle Dimitrescu Distillery map location

After you take the ladder down from the Hall of Ablution on your way to the Distillery , turn west to find this Goat of Warding on the ground by some candles.

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding Castle Dimitrescu Attic map location

Solve the bells puzzle in the Atelier , and climb the ladder to the attic. Turn around as soon as you get off the ladder, and you’ll see this Goat of Warding atop a wooden crate.

Resident Evil Village spoiler image

There are three (arguably four) Goats of Warding to find in The Village when you return after defeating Lady Dimitrescu .

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding The Village Lone Road map location

After defeating Lady Dimitrescu, follow the path back to The Village until you reach the area labeled Lone Road on the map. Take the stairs down, turn around at the bottom, and walk underneath the staircase you just descended. You’ll find a Goat of Warding on the ground, hidden in shadow.

Graveyard east of the Church

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding The Village East of the Church map location

From the churchyard, open the gate with the Iron Insignia Key , and hug the wall to your right when you enter the graveyard (with chickens). You’ll find a Goat of Warding on the ground between the easternmost crypt and the brick wall.

Bonus: While you’re in there, look at the archway above the gate that you crossed to get in. Shoot the pulsating white light, and collect a Large Crystal .

West Old Town

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding The Village West Old Town map location

After your battle with the armored werewolf , head to where he first appeared in front of a blue gate. It has a generic lock icon on your map and a note that reads “Locked due to missing home owner.” Shoot the lock, head in, and turn to your left. This Goat of Warding is on the snow-covered corrugated roof of the shed to the right of the destructible yellow crate.

Bonus: While you’re here, open the nearby outhouse for a Resident Evil Village lockpick .

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible Fallow Plot map location

We wrote about this above, but we didn’t find it until we returned to The Village after defeating Lady Dimitrescu. Head to the dead-end clearing at the northeast (left as you’re walking up the hill toward Luiza’s House) side of the Fallow Plot, and look up on the roof, where you’ll find this Goat of Warding hanging out.

House Beneviento Goats of Warding locations

There are two Goats of Warding to find at House Beneviento .

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding House Beneviento porch map location

Instead of walking in the front door, follow the porch to the left, and exit down into the little garden area. This Goat of Warding is just beyond the iron gate.

Suspension bridge

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding House Beneviento suspension bridge map location

As you’re leaving House Beneviento, turn to your right while you’re on the suspension bridge. There’s a Goat of Warding on a parallel suspension bridge.

Reservoir Goat of Warding locations

There are three Goats of Warding to find in Resident Evil Village ’s Reservoir .

Bridge puzzle

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible Reservoir bridge puzzle map location

When you’re navigating the flooded rooftops and dodging Moreau, you’ll come to a series of switches and bridges marked with blue and orange tape. As you start that puzzle, look to the northwest to find this Goat of Warding on top of a pole.

Windmill One

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible Reservoir windmill turntable map location

After you claim the crank from Windmill Two , you’ll zip line back to Windmill One. When you land, take a right, and you’ll find this Goat of Warding by the woodpile.

Boat house after defeating Moreau

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible Reservoir boathouse map

After you defeat Moreau and create the Six-Winged Unborn Key , return to the boathouse. There’s a new path on your left through the broken windmill. Just past the windmill, turn left for this Goat of Warding.

Stronghold Goats of Warding locations

There are two Goats of Warding in Resident Evil Village ’s Stronghold area.

Otto’s Mill

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible The Stronghold map location

Just before you enter the ruins leading to the Stronghold, head north to find Otto’s Mill . This Goat of Warding is in a shrine under the mill.

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible The Stronghold map location

After you fight your way past several waves of enemies, you’ll fight an armored lycan. Past him, you’ll descend a long, spiraling staircase. This Goat of Warding is at the bottom of those stairs.

Heisenberg’s Factory Goats of Warding locations

There are three Goats of Warding in Heisenberg’s Factory.

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible Heisenberg’s Factory B3 map location

After you power up the generator, you’ll make your way through several soldats and back to Duke’s elevator on floor B3. While you’re waiting for him to arrive, look up along the elevator shaft to find this Goat of Warding.

Grinder Shaft

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible Grinder Shaft Heisenberg’s Factory map location

Once you reach the Ventilation Duct on floor B2, head to the south end. You’ll find this Goat of Warding overlooking the Grinder Shaft.

Resident Evil Village Goat of Warding collectible Heisenberg’s Factory Cargo Bay map location

In the northeast corner of the office overlooking the Cargo Bay, duck under the table and crawl through the duct. This Goat of Warding is in the corner on a barrel.

The final Goat of Warding is very easy to miss. After the fight with Heisenberg, you’ll fight your way back through Old Town and destroy a giant mold construct . The next step takes you through the Underground, where you’ll fight a giant guardian with a nasty mace.

Resident Evil Village Underground Goat of Warding

After that, you’ll find your way to the Megamycete and see a cutscene. Turn to the right. In the mist and roots, there is a very hard-to-see statue. This Goat of Warding is at the statue’s feet.

Resident Evil Village Goat locations: Where to find all Goats of Warding collectibles

Our explainer to finding Resident Evil Village's hidden objects.

Resident Evil Village Goats of Warding are hidden throughout the expansive horror game - over the village, castle, factory, and other areas of Romania.

In terms of Goats of Warding rewards , there's only one specific reward for finding and destroying all 20 Goats in Resident Evil Village - and will come most in handy for those looking to revisit the game on future replays.

Note there may be spoilers in the locations and objectives shown each screenshot, so it's best to read when you've reached the area in the question.

For help elsewhere in the game, see our Resident Evil Village walkthrough .

On this page:

How Goats of Warding in Resident Evil Village work

Resident evil village goats of warding rewards explained, village goat locations, castle dimitrescu goat locations, house beneviento goat locations, reservoir goat locations, stronghold goat locations, heisenburg's factory goat locations, final area goat locations.

The Goats of Warding are never really explained in Resident Evil Village, and it's only if you go into the game's Challenge menu that you'll see they're actually a collectible.

wandering goats re8

In all, there are 20 Goats of Warding to track down in the latest Resident Evil game, and they're not just restricted to the titular village.

When you come across a Goat of Warding, all you need to do to count it as being "found" is to destroy it - by shooting or stabbing. Upon doing this, the goat will vanish in a flashy display, and you'll have come that one step closer to tracking down all the Goats of Warding in Resident Evil Village.

Unfortunately, there aren't any rewards linked to any individual Goat of Warding. Instead, you need to find and eliminate all 20 goats throughout Resident Evil Village to obtain the final reward.

The reward for finding all Goats of Warding are 16,000 Challenge Points, which you can use in the 'Bonuses' section of the Resident Evil Village main menu.

wandering goats re8

There's actually a lot of stuff to unlock in Resident Evil Village through spending Challenge Points. For example, the replayable Mercenaries mode is unlocked through spending Challenge Points, as are some elite weapons like the Dragoon assault rifle, and even infinite ammo cheats for each different weapon in the game.

Additionally, there are two Achievements/Trophies linked to Goats of Warding in Resident Evil Village. You'll earn the "Cynic" Achievement/Trophy for successfully finding your first Goat of Warding, and then you'll earn the "Heretic" Achievement/Trophy once you've found every goat in the game.

From here is all Goat of Warding locations, area-by-area:

To kick things off, here's our list of all the Goat of Warding locations we've found in the titular village. Resident Evil Village's main town is an absolute maze of cramped streets and alleyways, dotted with lycans round every corner, so finding Goats of Warding within this mess of a town is no small feat.

Goat of Warding 1 location (Maiden of War)

Starting things nice and simple, you won't find the first Goat of Warding in Resident Evil Village until after you've met the mysterious old woman that speaks in riddles to you, shortly after you're tasked with surviving the horde of lycans. After speaking to the old woman, she'll lock the big red gate behind you. Turn around to find yourself facing a statue of a woman with a spear and shield. On the other side of the statue is a lit up display case, housing the first Goat of Warding.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 2 location (Church)

For the second Goat of Warding, you simply need to look northeast. Through an open gate is a small church housing a typewriter. Right on top of the church is a Goat of Warding, hiding next to the church spire itself.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 3 location (Fallow Plot)

The next Goat of Warding isn't far off. Head east from the main square into the Fallow Plot, where you'll be attacked by two lycans. In the northeast corner of the Fallow Plot, up some stairs, is a Goat of Warding sat atop a wall.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 4 location (West Old Town)

Near the West Old Town area, where you were first ambushed by a horde of lycans, you'll find a big blue gate. Once you're through the gate, look straight ahead, and you'll see a lower roof to the left of the building on your right. On top of this lower roof, there's a Goat of Warding.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 5 location (Graveyard)

When you've finished up in Castle Dimitrescu, you'll be back in the village with the Iron Insignia key. Head to the back of the church that housed the second Goat of Warding on this list, and you'll see a gate with the matching Iron Insignia at the top of some stairs. Turn right once you're through this gate, and you can find the Goat of Warding on the ground next to a large grave.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 6 location (Lone Road)

This Goat of Warding can only be found after you've successfully made your way out of Castle Dimitrescu. Once you're out of the castle itself, you'll find yourself on a road to the east of the village itself. When you get to a bridge running over a river, take the small wooden stairs down, and then turn around to find yourself facing a small dark room. Within this dark room on the floor, you'll find a Goat of Warding.

wandering goats re8

The second major location you'll find yourself in during Resident Evil Village is Castle Dimitrescu. No prizes for guessing who this foreboding location is home to, but aside from bloodthirsty villains, the castle also houses a number of Goats of Warding, too.

Goat of Warding 7 location (Vineyard)

During the approach to Castle Dimitrescu, there's a Goat of Warding hiding among the Vineyard. On the northern end of the vines themselves, look towards the short cliff face to the north, and you'll find a Goat of Warding extremely well disguised among the rock face.

Goat of Warding 8 location (Distillery)

In the basement of Castle Dimitrescu, you'll find another Goat of Warding. The basement is actually called the Distillery , and when you first drop down into the location, there's a Goat of Warding waiting for you there.

Goat of Warding 9 location (Attic)

The next Goat of Warding in Castle Dimitrescu is found near the roof. You'll know you're in the Attic area when you climb a ladder up to a pretty scant hallway, lacking proper walls and flooring. Turn around as soon as you climb up the ladder to reach the Attic, and you'll see the Goat of Warding there.

wandering goats re8

There's only two Goats of Warding to find in the scenery surrounding House Beneviento. Steel yourselves for what's hiding within the house however, because you're going to have more than goat statues on your mind.

Goat of Warding 10 location (Suspension Bridge)

The next Goat of Warding can be found on the way to Donna Beneviento's house. On the way to confront Beneviento, which happens after Ethan's pretty tense confrontation with the Duke near the Altar area, you'll cross over a rope bridge. Look to the south while on the rope bridge, and you'll see a number of other bridges. On the bridge closest to you, you'll find another Goat of Warding.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 11 location (House Beneviento)

When you first reach House Beneviento, there's a pathway outside the front door that skirts the house itself. Head round to the left when you're facing the front door, and you'll come to an area right at the edge of the cliff. Just behind the fence here, you can find a Goat of Warding in hiding.

wandering goats re8

In this area of Resident Evil Village, there's three Goats of Warding to uncover. This is a minor miracle, as there's all sorts of nooks and crannies in this area where any number of goats could potentially be hidden.

Goat of Warding 12 location (Windmill Turntable)

When you're progressing through this area, with the mutated Moreau in hot pursuit, you'll eventually come to a windmill that's marked as the Windmill Turntable on your map. When you're on the outside of the upper floor of the windmill itself, there's a Goat of Warding hiding next to some wood logs.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding location 13 (Reservoir houses)

Now this Goat of Warding location is just downright cruel. If you were thinking there was any sort of logic to where the goats were placed, this one is here to prove you wrong, because there's a Goat of Warding balancing on the top of a wooden pole jutting out of the Reservoir water, when you're looking in the direction of the massive sluice gate after having just pushed your first cart into the water to make a pathway.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 14 location (Boat keeper's hut)

Remember when you first got on a boat to go across the Reservoir, after escaping from Moreau's trap within the mines? You'll need to go back to this location after you've drained the Reservoir and defeated Moreau, because you can now go across a new bridge directly opposite from the boat keeper's hut, and go through a ruined windmill, where you can find a Goat of Warding waiting for you just outside the shell of the windmill.

wandering goats re8

The Stronghold is the home of the lycan creatures that've been doggedly pursuing Ethan Winters throughout Resident Evil Village. It's a tough location to fight your way through, but there are several Goats of Warding hidden within the cramped passageways.

Goat of Warding 15 location (Otto's Mill)

You can find the next Goat of Warding as you make your way toward the Stronghold area of Resident Evil Village's map, pretty late on in the game. After you've made your way through the large gate that leads away from the village to the northeast, you'll come to a fork in the road, with a sign reading "good luck." Take the path on the left, and you'll come to a river. Go up the river, underneath the large factory-like building, and you'll find a Goat of Warding housed within a fancy glowing altar.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 16 location (Stronghold staircase)

Once you've made your way through the majority of the Stronghold area, you'll come to a large spiral staircase, with some very "big boss ahead" vibes. At the bottom of this large stone staircase, right before you squeeze through a gap in the nearby rocks, you can find a Goat of Warding sitting on the edge of the staircase, to the right.

wandering goats re8

Rounding out our guide on the Goat of Warding locations in Resident Evil Village is Heisenburg's Factory. This decrepit location is home to more monsters than just lycans, so make sure you've got all the ammo you can possibly muster before stepping in to face off against the madman's creations.

Goat of Warding 17 location (Duke's elevator)

This Goat of Warding is incredibly easy to miss. When you're in the elevator with the Duke in Heisenburg's factory, you need to press the button to be taken up to the top floor. On your way there, the goat will flash past in the blink of an eye on a ledge next to the door of the elevator on the left of the Duke.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 18 location (Ventilation Duct)

When you're combing through Heisenburg's massive factory, you'll eventually come to a huge ventilation duct, where you need to shoot a rotor to avoid getting sliced and diced in massive blades. After the huge rotor has been destroyed, turn around, and head to the southern end of the ventilation duct. Here, at the end of the duct, atop some steel wreckage, you can find a Goat of Warding.

wandering goats re8

Goat of Warding 19 location (Cargo Bay)

Near the conclusion of Heisenburg's factory, you'll be pitted against a miniboss with rotor blades attached to its head. After you've dispatched the boss by repeatedly shooting it in the back, you'll find yourself in a subsequent room with a control panel. Look to the eastern end of the room, and you'll find a small vent that you can crouch to walk through. In this next tiny room, you'll find a Goat of Warding waiting for you.

wandering goats re8

There's only one Goat of Warding to find in this final area. Notice that we've deliberately left out the name of this location so as to not spoil the location itself for those players who have accidentally scrolled to this section of the guide.

Goat of Warding 20 location (Underground)

Still here? Excellent. In the vaguest terms possible, you'll reach a point where you venture underground in this section of the game. You'll then come face to face with a massive, inanimate object, where a short cutscene plays out. After the cutscene, turn to your right, and use your scoped weapon to find the final Goat of Warding hiding at the foot of a larger statue.

Resident Evil Village: Where to find all Goats of Warding

Don't let the game get your goat

resident evil village goats of warding maiden of war

Every Resident Evil game in recent years has had collectibles that players need to destroy in order to check off their list and Resident Evil Village is no different. In this latest installment of the long-running franchise, players will want to smash or shoot the various Goats of Warding found clacking away across the sprawling map.

Here's every one of the Goats of Warding in Resident Evil Village that we've found so far. We'll continue to update it as we find more.

Resident Evil Village: All Goats of Warding

Goats of Warding are made of wood, so they can be identified by the clacking sounds they make when one is nearby. Stop and listen for consistent clacking. Due to the dark visual tone of the game, spotting them can be difficult, so using the audio cues is key.

To save ammunition, it's recommended you use the knife to slash the Goats whenever you find them. With that in mind, there are a few Goats that are out of reach, so you'll need to shoot them. Once you've smashed or shot a Goat, it's taken care of forever on that profile, you won't need to get it again on a new playthrough.

Goat #1 - Maiden of War/Village Center

The easiest of the Goats to find, this one is highlighted in a small shrine at the center of the village, near the Maiden of War statue.

Goat #2 - Fallow Plot

In the Fallow Plot leading up to Louiza's house, look in the top corner along the rooftops to spot this goat.

Goat #3 - Church Rooftop

Go right outside of the Church and look up on the roof to spot this Goat.

Goat #4 - Castle Vineyard

The fourth Goat is located in the back of the twisted 'vineyard' outside of Castle Dimitrescu.

Goat #5 - Castle Distillery

When you solve the puzzle in the Hall of Ablution and head down the stairs, look to the left to find this Goat.

Goat #6 - Castle Attic

After solving the puzzle with five bells and heading into the attic of Castle Dimitrescu, turn around to see this smug Goat.

Goat #7 - Lone Road

While crossing the bridge of the Lone Road, take a small flight of stairs down and check underneath to find this Goat hidden in the dark.

Goat #8 - Suspension Bridge

When crossing the Suspension Bridge that leads to House Beneviento, peer through the mists to another bridge and you'll see another Goat.

Goat #9 - House Beneviento

Before heading inside House Beneviento, go to the left and check outside the fence to spot this Goat on the side of the cliff.

Goat #10 - North of Church

Once you have the Iron Insignia Key, you can open the gate north of the Church. Check behind the tombs, there's a Goat lying in a snowbank.

Goat #11 - West Old Town

In the south of the village, you'll find yourself in West Old Town. There's a Goat resting at roughly eye level on a rickety shack.

Goat #12 - Waterfront Mill

In Moreau's Reservoir, you'll find yourself on top of a mill. Check near the end of the path pictured amidst some junk to find this Goat.

Goat #13 - Otto's Mill

On the way to the Lycan stronghold, take a left to find Otto's Mill. Instead of going inside, follow the stream under the building to find another shrine with another Goat.

Goat #14 - Grinder Shaft

In Heisenberg's factory, when you shoot the giant fan and fall down, walk to the edge of the ramp and you'll see a Goat lodged on the end of the bent metal plate.

Resident Evil Village Goats of Warding: All 20 Locations

Image of Thomas Wilde

Resident Evil Village Goats of Warding are just one type of collectible that can be found in the game. Finding all 20 of them scattered across the map will give you the Cynic and Heretic trophies and achievements. But before you do, you’ll need to know where to find them all.

Despite the description of the Resident Evil Village  Goats of Warding you receive in a file that’s located underneath the first one you find, destroying them does not appear to have any particular effect on the rest of the game.

Each Goat makes a clacking sound once you’re within a few yards of it, so in a quiet room, they’re hard to miss. However, there are a lot of environments in the game that also passively produce a similar sound, like the creepy bone wind chimes in the eastern village’s wheat fields, so it can be maddening if you’re on a Goat hunt.

Note that destroying a Goat, like bobbleheads in the RE2 and RE3 remakes , saves your progress towards the trophy or achievement to your profile on the spot. This also permanently removes them from any future games played on any save slot related to that profile, unless you nuke your data and start over from scratch.

The 20 Goats are located at irregular intervals throughout the course of the game, so naturally, a guide to finding them all involves major spoilers about RE8’s events. You’re better off waiting to read the rest of this article until after you’ve beaten RE8 at least once.

Resident Evil Village Goats of Warding Locations

You can destroy a Goat of Warding with any weapon, including your knife, but many have to be shot due to where they’re located. If you miss a Goat in the castle, reservoir, or factory, they’re gone for good and you’ll have to grab them on your next run through the game.

This list is given in a roughly linear order, as you’d encounter each Goat on a typical run through Resident Evil Village . It’s useful to remember that the castle and reservoir both lock down after you defeat their respective lords, so any Goats left over after that point are gone until your next run.

In a display in the village, south from the castle’s entrance. As an introduction to the collectible, this is pretty much a gimme.

wandering goats re8

On a rooftop on the eastern side of the Fallow Plot, in the village.

wandering goats re8

It’s pretty much out in the middle of nowhere, as far as landmarks go, so here’s about where it is on the in-game map.

wandering goats re8

On the roof of the village church. (Note: the religious paraphernalia within the church itself always makes passive clacking sounds whenever you’re inside it, regardless of whether you’ve destroyed the rooftop Goat or not. There is not a second Goat hidden somewhere inside.)

wandering goats re8

Just before you first meet the Duke, you can find this Goat behind a tree on the north side of the Vineyard.

There’s a very narrow window of opportunity for this Goat, since the drawbridge to the castle breaks after you beat Lady D and the front door to the castle gets locked down once you go inside.

wandering goats re8

For ease of reference, here’s the Goat’s location on the in-game map.

wandering goats re8

After you solve the statue puzzle in the castle’s Halls of Ablution, you should practically trip over this Goat on your way down the stairs.

wandering goats re8

In the castle’s Attic, on a stack of boxes in the corner.

wandering goats re8

In an alcove underneath the stairs that lead down to the drawbridge. You’ll pass through this general area on your way back into the village from the castle, and can return here once you have the Crank to find some extra supplies hidden on either side of the river.

wandering goats re8

When you return to the village after your run through the castle, you’ll be able to backtrack to the southern part of the village and open some of the doors that were shut tight when you first arrived.

One of them, in West Old Town, has a sign on the gate that says it’s “locked due to missing homeowner,” but on your second trip through the village, you can break off the lock and go inside.

You won’t be able to enter the lutier’s house until you’ve dealt with the shenanigans over at House Beneviento, but you can still shoot his Goat. It’s on the roof of a shed between the lutier’s place and the hut next door.

wandering goats re8

Use the Iron Insignia Key on the door behind the church in the village. This area looks unexciting at first, with only a couple of chickens to hunt, but you can find a Goat in here hidden behind one of the mausoleums.

wandering goats re8

You may have thought to yourself, upon finding the sniper rifle, that it would be very much on-brand for obnoxious video game collectibles if one of the Goats was in a distant location somewhere where it’d be hard to spot without a sniper scope. If so, you were right twice, because there are two of them.

wandering goats re8

The first is found near the Suspension Bridge near House Beneviento. As you cross it, look to the south to spot the Goat on the closest inaccessible bridge. (Unconfirmed: due to the set piece you go through on your initial approach to Beneviento, you may not be able to see this Goat until you’re on your way back to the village.)

wandering goats re8

If you’re facing the front door to House Beneviento, turn left and follow the fence to the right. The Goat is on the edge of a cliff behind the fence.

wandering goats re8

On the far side of the highest balcony of the dilapidated windmill near the sluice control room.

wandering goats re8

This is the second of the “scoped Goats.” Once you reach the unpleasantly gooey switch in the flooded part of the reservoir, turn 180 degrees and look at the chunk of debris sticking out of the water to the north. There’s a particularly precarious Goat on top of it.

wandering goats re8

It’s not difficult to shoot with just the pistol, if need be, but spotting it at all is easier with the sniper rifle.

wandering goats re8

After you defeat Moreau, backtrack to the mine tunnels near the entrance and go back out to where you found the fishing boat. With the reservoir drained, you can now walk down to the former lakebed to find a few treasures in the wreckage, including the formerly-inaccessible treasure chest that you probably spotted when you took the boat.

Along the way, you’ll pass through the formerly-sunken wreckage of a house. When you leave that house, turn to your left to find a Goat atop a pile of garbage.

wandering goats re8

Before you go up the ominous stairs that lead to the Stronghold, turn north and follow the path to find the optional area Otto’s Mill. Follow the river underneath the main building to find another display with a Goat in it.

wandering goats re8

When you reach the spiral staircase in the Stronghold, follow the stairs down to their end and look for this Goat hidden among debris at the bottom. It’s exactly the same color as the walls, so it can be easy to miss.

wandering goats re8

On one of the support beams along the elevator shaft where Duke’s set up shop in the Factory. You can try to destroy this Goat by blasting it while you travel between floors, or simply get off at B2 and snipe it from just outside the elevator car.

wandering goats re8

At the southern end of the Ventilation Duct in the Factory, overlooking the Grinder Shaft. This is the area where you have to snap-shot the center of the running fan to avoid being mulched.

wandering goats re8

After you defeat the Sturm (a.k.a. Ol’ Propellerhead) in the Factory, go into the control room and look at the eastern wall. There’s an open vent half-hidden beneath a desk, which leads to a hidden room with some much-needed supplies and this Goat.

wandering goats re8

As Chris, after the scene where he throws the shaped charge into the mutomycete, turn around to face the way you came. There’s an alcove next to your entry point into the larger cavern, where a statue of a woman can be seen behind a field of petrified branches. The final Goat is at the base of the statue, barely visible unless your brightness is all the way up.

wandering goats re8

Destroying your first Goat in RE8 unlocks the trophy/achievement Cynic , while getting all 20 unlocks Heretic . Both are also listed as Challenges in the post-game bonuses menu, so pulling them off earns points towards the purchase of extra weapons, infinite ammo, figurines, and other such perks.

Heretic is worth 16,000 CP. Since the game doesn’t actually tell you how many points a completed Challenge is worth, and Cynic is basically guaranteed, we’ll need to start over on a new save file to find out.

Either way, those are the location for all 20 of the Resident Evil Village Goats of Warding. For more RE8 tips and guides, consider heading over to our guide hub for the game .

Resident Evil 8 Village All Collectible Locations (Goats, Files, Recipes, Outhouses, Windows, Weapon Parts)

May 6, 2021 by PowerPyx 32 Comments

This Resident Evil 8 Village Collectibles Guide shows where to find all Collectible Locations (20 Goats, 47 Files, 11 Recipes, 16 Weapons, 22 Customizable Weapon Parts, 10 Outhouses, 19 Castle Windows). There are 145 Collectibles in total.

Locating all Resident Evil Village Collectibles unlocks the following trophies:

trophy

Most Collectibles are missable! Collect them in chronological order as you go through the game. You can get most of them on your first playthrough, only some Recipes, Weapons, and Customizable Parts require additional Playthroughs and will be listed at the end of the guide. While Key Items are not tied to any trophy or achievement, they are often required to reach a collectible and to advance the story. This Collectible Guide is written in a Walkhrough format with all important Key Items and Puzzle Solutions included. This will help you get through the first playthrough with ease. Below all trophy-relevant collectibles are color-coded. The ones that aren’t directly tied to trophies are in black.

You can collect everything on easy difficulty (Casual) to make it easier. All your Collectible Progress carries over to New Game+. After beating the story the game asks you to make a Completed Story Save. Do this and reload that Save from the Main Menu to enter New Game+. You also keep all your money, all weapon upgrades, all crafting materials and everything else in your inventory.

You can track your Collectible Progress from the Challenges Menu, but it’s only available after beating the story one time! So if you didn’t get one of the Collectible Trophies you can check after the story what you missed. In New Game+ open the Pause Menu click “Challenges” and scroll down to see the counter on each Challenge. “Heretic” tracks the Goats, “Veteran Gunsmith” tracks Customizable Weapon Parts, “Artisan” tracks Recipes, “Bookworm” tracks Files.

After finding a Collectible it gets saved to your Records instantly and there’s no need to collect them again if you die. Everything carries over to subsequent playthroughs and you can also jump between manual saves to grab a missing collectible and it will count retroactively (they are all saved on your “profile save” so you don’t lose anything when jumping to an old save).

Some Recipes, Weapons, and Customizable Weapon Parts must be bought from the merchant. The total cost for all trophy-related Collectibles is 1,711,700 Lei (1,061,000 Lei for Customizable Parts + 601,700 Lei for purchasable Weapons with attachment slots on them + 49,000 Lei for Recipes). You should have enough money after 2-3 playthroughs. Most of these purchasables are listed at the end of the guide because you can buy them at various points and some of these only unlock in New Game+.

Collectible Overview:

  • 11 x Crafting Recipes
  • 16 x Weapons
  • 22 x Weapon Customizable Parts
  • 10 x Outhouses
  • 19 x Breakable Castle Windows
  • 29 x Key Items (needed to advance story and reach certain collectibles)
  • 4 x Labyrinth Items (only 1 needed for trophies)
  • 3 x Maps (not needed for anything, just included for the sake of completion)

Enter the boat, turn around and follow the river. [Weapon Part #4] W870 TAC – Foregrip Village 1F, Lone Road: Same location as above, silver case to the right.

[Trophy] Medium Rare Village 1F, Lone Road: Go the other direction up the river, then follow the path into the castle area with the torches. You shoot the middle hanging torch to make it light the other two, then to get the third one lit you shoot it towards the infinite spawning Moroaica and have it wander over to the other room and light that torch, which also happens to get you this trophy. Going to this area is also needed for the Mapmatician trophy (unfogging the whole map).

[Trophy] Leader of the Pack Village 1F, Fallow Plot: Before going to Heisenberg’s Stronghold, go over to the Fallow Plot area (cornfield) and you can find Varcolac Alfa (Alpha Werewolf) wandering around. [Goat #16] Stronghold B1: After having a large enemy encounter and fighting your way up the Stronghold, you will come to a spiral staircase leading down. At the bottom of the spiral staircase look to the right to find this goat (before pushing through a crack in a wall).

wandering goats re8

[File #35] Officer’s Diary Stronghold B1: Next to the goat you must push through the crack in the wall. In the next room you find this file on the floor, next to a typewriter save point.

[Key Item] Torso Flask Stronghold B1: Picked up automatically after boss.

[Trophy] Quit Hanging Around Heisenberg’s Factory B4: In the factory when you first climb up the ladder and see the rows of bodies on conveyor belts you can shoot one to cause it to drop and earn this trophy (area with a Duke merchant).

Move it out of the way, then go into the room at the end to find this item. It lets you use the casting machine to make the Labyrinth ball for this area. The Labyrinth is found on Level B4 (it has an exclamation mark on the map, near Duke merchant).

[Goat #17] Heisenberg’s Factory B2, Ventilation Duct: In the next room you will start flying in the air because a ventilation fan is trying to suck you in. You must shoot out the fan in midair before it kills you. After you land on your feet, turn around and walk to the “balcony” (looks like a ramp with yellow excavator shovels). The goat sits here on the balcony, on one of the excavator shovels. It blends in quite well so listen for the sound it makes.

wandering goats re8

[Goat #18] Heisenberg’s Factory, Merchant Elevator from B1 to B3: Enter the elevator where the Duke merchant is and take it from B1 to B3. Look in the direction where the elevator door opens to B1/B3. During the elevator ride the goat can be seen briefly on a red railing. Have your shotgun in hand to shoot it while the elevator moves, it’s only in view for about 2 seconds. You can just keep using the elevator as many times as you need to hit it. Note; if you forget this goat it can also spawn later after File #41 when you drive a vehicle into the elevator, then you can shoot it using the vehicle (same elevator, same goat, just at different points in the story).

wandering goats re8

[Key Item] Heisenberg’s Key Heisenberg’s Factory MB4, Foundry: Take the merchant elevator down to B4 and backtrack to the Foundry. You must backtrack here and to use the Key Mold to create Heisenberg’s Key.

[Weapon Part #5] M1851 Wolfsbane – Long Barrel Heisenberg’s Factory MB4, Operating Room: After getting Heisenberg’s Key, go through the door to the left of the foundry machine. Earlier you may already have notice a locked door that wasn’t accessible due to missing power. Now you can go through that door, it’s where it says “Operating Room” on the map. One enemy will break through a wall and behind him in a briefcase is the weapon part. Make sure you get it before taking the elevator back up and using Heisenberg’s Key on B1, because doing so will lock you into a boss battle with no way back.

[File #39] Sturm Heisenberg’s Factory B1: Take the merchant elevator back up to B1 and use Heisenberg’s Key on the door with golden horse icon. After opening the door a file will be in the room in front of you.

[File #40] Heisenberg’s Diary Heisenberg’s Factory B1: After defeating Sturm, in a control room area before Cargo Bay on a table.

[Goat #19] Heisenberg’s Factory B1: In the same room there is a space you can crouch into to the right of the above file. In the next room you can find this goat in the corner.

After Heisenberg Boss Fight

[Goat #20] After the cutscene where Chris throws an explosive at megamycete (big fetus hanging from cave ceiling). There will be spikes in a dark corner, which you can’t walk past, but behind them in a pretty dark spot will be a woman statue and the goat sitting in front of it. Pretty hard to see because of the darkness.

wandering goats re8

[File #42] Moreau’s Medical Report While playing as Chris, after defeating the mace-wielding boss and finding the Megamycete in the underground ruins (giant fetus hanging from ceiling). You will get a cutscene in which you place a bomb on the fetus. Then the next room you enter is Miranda’s Laboratory. When you enter Chris will say “This must be Miranda’s Lab”, so just listen for when he says that. In this room are all 6 remaining File Collectibles. There are 4 books on the left table in the room, straight ahead of where you enter. This is the 1st book, examine it for the text file.

How is the minimum playthroughs is 3 if we need to go shop after finishing the game on Village of Shadows? Also I want to start karambit knife only run but I have to visit Duke before going into Castle. It is okay since game is on easy but I believe on Village of Shadows difficult it won’t be the same.

May 8, 2021 at 2:37 pm

Just reload a save from your 3rd playthrough after buying the Rocket Pistol. The Extra Content Shop weapons are unlocked retroactively on all your old saves. No need to start a new game.

I did all collectables but did not get the trophy for unlocking the whole map 🙁

May 8, 2021 at 7:42 pm

Did you go to the Riverbank Treasures House where the Medium Rare trophy takes place? That’s the only side area where there’s no Collectible (but it’s listed here in the guide). Other than that only idea I have would be that you died or restarted checkpoint but didn’t revisit an area.

Oh no i didnt got there, i did the trophy at the beginning (backtrack one of them to the fire in the underground), so i didnt get there this time. Thanks for the answer, now i have to do it again yaiiii do you now what i have to enter or how far i have to go into am area to unlock it on the map=

I’ve got the broken slab but can’t get back to the Beneviento house to use it to get the treasure, every way seems blocked. How do you get back there?

' src=

May 14, 2021 at 3:17 pm

I’m not sure about that problem I was able to go back the way I came if that’s not available I’m not sure

' src=

May 15, 2021 at 12:15 pm

Just update on this. I found a way back to use the broken slab, just missed an obvious exit that’s all. Doh!

' src=

May 10, 2021 at 7:31 pm

Just want to let anyone struggling with goat #18 know that there is a much easier way to get it. Just exit the elevator on B3, take out the sniper rifle and look up towards the lift shaft where the goat is.

' src=

May 11, 2021 at 3:03 am

How do I get the trophy that needs to collect 777 lei

May 11, 2021 at 3:48 pm

See Trophy Guide & Roadmap .

' src=

May 11, 2021 at 6:09 am

You can also shoot the goat in the elevator from the grown floor if you look up

' src=

May 13, 2021 at 12:39 am

Hey power. I followed the collectible guide completely in order to get the trophies. However I did not get the full map trophy. And I did get all collectibles. Is there something I can do? I have a save in each area separately. Can I load an older file in order to complete the map? After the factory I can’t go and walk around anymore. Any suggestions what I may be missing ??? I thought the guide would map the village automatically.

' src=

May 15, 2021 at 12:54 am

Can you do a guide for the Geologist Challenge? I’m missing one valuable mineral and I can’t figure out where it is.

' src=

October 7, 2021 at 12:42 am

Challenges stack up, so you can just keep collecting one mineral over and over and it’ll count.

May 15, 2021 at 12:13 pm

Missed a few files on my first run but those I missed I picked up on a second run, in fact I followed the guide and picked all 47 files up again. I’ve now got 47/47, double checked, ticked off and read through each one using the map screen but no Trophy. Unless it’s glitched on me I don’t know what’s happened there. I definitely have all 47 files.

' src=

May 16, 2021 at 10:42 am

Same problem too! No idea how to fix

' src=

May 29, 2021 at 9:27 pm

Still glitched? I missed 1 File in my first run and collected it in my second. Now I have 47/47 but trophy didn’t pop up.

' src=

May 20, 2021 at 6:01 pm

I find all the 47 files. Checked, read it in single playthrough. And no trophy, steam edition.

' src=

May 22, 2021 at 4:29 am

Just an FYI, for Veteran Gunsmith you don’t actually need to equip the parts on the gun, just buying them is counted in the Challenges list. I bought what I needed then reloaded my save to return all the parts I didn’t need/want to get my money back for the S.T.A.K.E. Magnum upgrades. Thank you Pyx for a really impressive guide. Your collectibles list in order with missable trophies was so helpful.

May 22, 2021 at 6:53 am

**CORRECTION OF ABOVE** (OR DELETE MY ABOVE STATEMENT) I ‘spoke’ too soon. You do have to actually equip the part onto the gun. My mistake was I thought I had simply bought the parts without equipping them. While purchasing, at the end of the transaction it asks if you want to equip the part. I wasn’t paying attention & thought I was just ending the transaction.

Yoooo I’m about to get the beneviento treasure for the first time. That big thing scared the hell out of me lmao

' src=

June 5, 2021 at 12:42 am

Fine work, sir! Might I suggest including all the treasures in this list as well? I know they’re not necessary but they do help a lot.

' src=

July 7, 2021 at 7:59 pm

There’s an easier way to get goat #18, rather then trying to time your shot take the elevator to b3, exit the elevator and walk to the very end of the platform in front of you 180 look up and on the bottom of the second x made of girders near the middle you’ll see it

' src=

July 27, 2021 at 12:51 am

Doesn’t seem to be any indicator for the well nearby riverbank treasure house. If you use that well it brings up a ladder instead to a small treasure area. Might be what some folks are missing for mapmatitian.

July 27, 2021 at 8:05 pm

Do you climb down the ladder into the well? I don’t remember ever going there (never climbed down a ladder into a well) and got the trophy just fine, so shouldn’t matter. I think the thing some players are missing is the Treasure House itself.

' src=

November 12, 2021 at 5:01 pm

For goat 18 you can shoot from outside the elevator with the sniper rifle

Resident Evil Village Guide: List of every Goat of Warding location

Gotta smash 'em all!

Goat Of Warding 10 Ottos Mill Map

Resident Evil has a storied history of hiding fun, destructible collectibles in its games. With Resident Evil 5 and 6 we had distinct blue emblems, in Resident Evil 7 we had quirky football bobbleheads, and now in Resident Evil Village we have small wooden goats. If you're struggling to track down all 20 of these illusive figures, here's every Goat of Warding location in Resident Evil Village.

1. Graveyard

The first Goat of Warding location is hard to miss. You'll find the wooden figure proudly displayed in a small wooden altar in the graveyard of the village. Listen carefully for the wooden clicking sound these emit. It will make finding the others much easier.

2. Vineyard

In the vineyard outside of the castle walls is a Goat of Warding hidden in the snow. Look for the human scarecrow in the back-right corner to find this one.

3. Church Roof

Shortly after visiting the graveyard for the first time, you'll make your way to a small church. Inside you'll notice that distinctive clicking, but the figure is nowhere to be found. Make your way outside and look for this Goat of Warding on the roof.

4. Fallow Plot

In the left corner of Fallow Plot, opposite the tall grass and horrifying werewolves, you'll find a Goat of Warding resting atop a stone wall with wooden shingles. Just hug the left edge of this area and you should be able to find it.

5. Castle Distillery

As you're making your way to the castle distillery, look behind you after climbing down the ladder from the Hall of Ablution to find a Goat of Warding tucked in the corner next to some candles.

6. Castle Attic

Tucked away in one of the back corners of the castle attic you'll find a Goat of Warding on top of a small stack of crates next to some books.

7. Lone Road

After leaving the castle you'll make your way down Lone Road to meet up with Duke. Off to one side will be a small stone building. Hidden in the darkness on the floor is a Goat of Warding.

8. Church Graves

Once you've returned to the village from the castle, take the Iron Insignia Key you obtained and unlock the graves behind the church. In the snow behind one of the large graves you'll find a Goat of Warding.

9. West Old Town

While making your way through some of the houses in West Old Town you'll find a Goat of Warding on top of a small shingled roof behind one of the larger homes.

10. House Beneviento

Before entering House Beneviento, take a left on the porch and follow a small path along the side of the cliff near the waterfall. You'll see a Goat of Warding on the other side of the metal fence.

11. Suspension Bridge

After leaving House Beneviento, you'll again cross a rickety suspension bridge. If you look to your right, you'll see another mostly broken bridge with a Goat of Warding resting upon it.

12. Windmill

When working to deal with Moreau, you'll come to a watery area with a series of windmills. At the first of these windmills you encounter, hidden behind some chopped wood is a Goat of Warding.

13. Moreau Chase

When Moreau is chasing you around the buildings submerged in water, eventually you'll come across a switch covered in green sludge and worms. From this switch, look to left and you will see a Goat of Warding atop a wooden pole.

14. Drained Reservoir

After you've drained the water from the reservoir, you'll find an optional path from the exit of this area that will lead you down to some fish and a Goat of Warding on top of some watery trash.

15. Otto's Mill

Before encountering Heisenberg, you'll notice an optional path from the village to the left that will lead you to Otto's Mill. Inside is a terrifying enemy, but below this structure in a wooden altar is a Goat of Warding.

16. Stronghold

In the Stronghold filled with werewolves you'll find a Goat of Warding next to a few metal buckets as you are climbing the central spiral staircase.

17. Grinder Shaft

As you are making your way to the higher levels of the Factory you'll eventually come to Grinder Shaft. Hidden above you in the clutches of a metal scoop is a Goat of Warding. You'll likely want the sniper rifle for this one.

18. Cargo Bay Control Room

Before making your way into the Cargo Bay of the factory, look for a small metal grate against the wall. Make your way through this crawl space to find a Goat of Warding on top of a steel barrel.

19. Factory Elevator

After meeting Chris in the basement of the factory and jumping in to the makeshift tank, rake the elevator up to the surface. Keep your eyes peeled for a Goat of Warding as you make your way up. You'll need to shoot it with the tank's machine gun.

20. Megamycete Statue

When playing as Chris and fighting your way through the village, you'll eventually come to the Megamycete. To the right of this is an area with some spikes and a statue. The final Goat of Warding will be at the bottom of this statue.

27 very L.A. ways to spend time with Mom — or not — on Mother’s Day

• Show more sharing options
  • Copy Link URL Copied!

A few years ago, I compiled a list of things to do on Mother’s Day focused on the concept — and I’ll quote myself here — “that spending time with you [their children] is what most moms really want for Mother’s Day.”

Shortly after my well-intentioned roundup was published, I received some feedback from moms: Not everyone wants to spend time with their children on Mother’s Day, especially if they are younger than 3.

On a day dedicated to celebrating mothers, carving out a little “me time” can be a valuable opportunity for self-care and relaxation .

Planning your weekend?

Stay up to date on the best things to do, see and eat in L.A .

Fortunately, Los Angeles offers many activities to enjoy solo or with a companion. Perhaps your mother would relish the chance to peruse the chocolate room at the Ed Ruscha retrospective at LACMA , free from the worry of children trying to lick the walls. Or maybe she’d enjoy a sound bath , waterfall hike, forest bathing session at one of L.A.’s stunning botanic gardens or a post-bedtime comedy show .

Mother’s Day is emotionally complicated for many people, including mothers. To make the day more meaningful, why not ask your mom or mother figure what their ideal Sunday looks like? To help you get started, we’ve compiled some suggestions from our guides of things to do in L.A., below.
