Recent tour reviews

Band played favorites from past and even some songs that were on side B, that was really cool if you know their music. Still high energy and David is still the man on his Gibson's and fenders. Will see again, but never at Harrahs Cherokee NC. Crowd was too drunk, out of control, and security lost control of the crowd.

Awesome Show, one of those bands that sound better live. Almost 2 hours, played our favorites, must see!

Share stage with Firehouse, another great band rock the house for 45 minutes.

Third in the lineup was John Waite, forgot how good of a vocalist he is, would go to another show even if he is the only headliner.

REO Speedwagon

REO Speedwagon formed in 1967, signed in 1971, and fronted by iconic vocalist Kevin Cronin since 1972, REO Speedwagon’s unrelenting drive, as well as non-stop touring and recording jump-started the burgeoning rock movement in the Midwest. Platinum albums and radio staples soon followed, setting the stage for the release of the band’s explosive Hi Infidelity in 1980, which contained the massive hit singles “Keep On Loving You” and “Take It On the Run.” That landmark album spent 15 weeks in the No. 1 slot and has since earned the RIAA’s coveted 10X Diamond Award for surpassing sales of 10 million units in the United States.

From 1977 to 1989, the band released nine consecutive albums all certified Platinum or higher. Today, REO Speedwagon has sold more than 40 million albums around the globe, and Cronin and bandmates Bruce Hall (bass), Dave Amato (guitar), Bryan Hitt (drums), and Derek Hilland (touring keyboardist) are still electrifying audiences worldwide in concert with hits and fan-favorites such as “Ridin’ The Storm Out,” “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “Time For Me To Fly,” “Roll With The Changes,” the aforementioned “Keep On Loving You” and “Take It On the Run,” and many, many more.

For more than 40 years, Loverboy has been “Working for the Weekend” (and on the weekend), delighting audiences around the world since forming in 1979, when vocalist Mike Reno was introduced to guitar hot shot Paul Dean – both veterans of several bands on the Canadian scene – at Calgary’s Refinery Night Club. Along with Reno and Dean, Loverboy still includes original members Doug Johnson on keyboards and Matt Frenette on drums, with Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith on bass.

With their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy live shows, Loverboy has sold more than 10 million albums, earning four multi-platinum plaques, including the four-million-selling GET LUCKY, and a trio of double-Platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983’s KEEP IT UP and 1985’s LOVIN’ EVERY MINUTE OF IT. Their string of hits includes, in addition to the anthem “Working for the Weekend,” such arena rock staples as “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “This Could Be the Night,” “Hot Girls in Love,” “The Kid is Hot Tonite,” “Notorious”, “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” “Heaven In Your Eyes” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.” In September of last year, the group was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto, ON.

REO Speedwagon and Train Kick Off Summer Tour: Set Lists, Videos

REO Speedwagon delivered on their vow to push out of their comfort zone by touring with Train when the bands played the first show of their Summer Road Trip Monday night.

Kevin Cronin ’s band delivered a 12-song set of classics at the Somerset Amphitheater, WI, before Train took to the stage and performed 17 numbers, including their recent single “Long Yellow Dress” and a cover of Steve Young's “Seven Bridges Road," previously popularized by the Eagles.

Both set lists, plus videos, can be seen below.

When the shows were announced , Cronin made much of the fact that, at face value, the bands weren’t an obvious match. “It was kind of a shocker,” he told UCR. “Normally we’re out there with Styx or Journey, you know, in our comfort zone. But I really dig Train and I’ve always thought that Patrick Monahan is just a world-class singer and songwriter. I’ve loved their records from 'Drops of Jupiter' on."

Monahan reported he’d always been an REO fan, adding: “When I was younger I … fell in love with their numerous, infectious hit songs.” He went on: “This tour won’t just be a great time with great people, but a tour that will have a ton of familiar songs to most generations. I will be wishing I was in the audience as much as I’ll love being on the stage.”

The tourmates recently arranged a mashup performance consisting of one of each bands’ songs on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Fans of Train and REO Speedwagon probably didn’t have a joint tour on their bingo cards, but i n an interview with USA TODAY, REO Speedwagon’s Kevin Cronin said he immediately felt a “good vibe” when he met Train lead singer Patrick Monahan.

“Pat is an amazing singer, Train has great hit songs, and I feel that the combination of REO and Train is both interesting and powerful,” said Cronin.

Monahan, according to SILive.com , has similar sentiments.

“This tour won’t just be a great time with great people, but a tour that will have a ton of familiar songs to most generations,” the Train frontman said in a statement.

In May, Charlie Colin, a founding member of Train, died after slipping and falling in the shower while house-sitting for a friend in Brussels, Belgium. Colin, according to reports from Billboard and TMZ, had moved to Brussels to teach a music masterclass and was working on new music for a film at the time of his death.
