More about edinburgh.

Edinburgh, pronounced Eh-din-brah, has been the Scottish capital since the 15th century. One of the historic areas of Edinburgh is the Royal Mile, with cobblestones connecting Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. There is a medieval marketplace, Grassmarket, with shops offering traditional gifts and local Scottish pubs.

Edinburgh Castle has a rich history of royalty and is home to the Honours of Scotland, known informally as the Scottish Crown Jewels, which are on display for public viewing. The National Galleries of Scotland offer four galleries, and the National Gallery has one of the greatest art collections in the world. The National Museum of Scotland provides an opportunity to learn about the natural world of cultures, fashion, science, and technology.

Visit Calton Hill Historic Monument to capture panoramic views of Edinburgh. The skyline of Endinburgh features a unique landscape of hills that make up Holyrood Park, with the highest point, Arthur’s Seat, formed by a volcano. A hidden gem located just outside the city is Lauriston Castle, which sits on 30 acres of parkland and gardens, allowing you to reflect.

Scotland’s reliably inclement weather means that you could visit at the height of summer and be forced to wear a scarf. Conversely, conditions can be balmy in early spring and late autumn. You may want to avoid the crowds during July and August, but you’d also miss the famed Edinburgh International Festival and other summer celebrations. May, June, and September are probably the most hassle-free months in which to visit. Short days make winter less appealing, but Edinburgh’s New Year celebrations are justly renowned.

Weather in edinburgh.

Summer, June to August, is the most popular time for Edinburgh travel. The temperature ranges between 50 and 65 F that makes it a comfortable time to explore the beautiful region. Summer days are long, giving you enough time to wander around.

Book in advance the huge tourist crowd occupies everything, and there is a great chance that you will not find any accommodation in case of no booking. Various festivals and events are going on throughout the city, and you will surely find one that holds your interest.

Springtime, April and May, and autumn, September and October, are the shoulder seasons with low tourist seasons. The shoulder seasons have pleasant weather, empty streets, and low prices, compared to the peak time. You will have plenty of sunlight while exploring the capital.

Autumn evening, however, is relatively colder, and you might want to carry some jackets or woolens if you are traveling during this time. You might get some discount deals as most of the tourist crowds have gone back or have not yet arrived. If visiting in October, make sure to attend the Scottish International Storytelling Festival that builds interest in all age groups and keep everyone engaged.

If you are lucky enough to get some snow in Edinburgh Scotland during your winter tour, then you will have the chance to witness the magical side of the city. Winter, November to February, is cold enough that you have to carry a jacket or woolen clothes for your journey.

But the good thing is that you will get lots of discounts on airfare, accommodation and many more things due to being offseason. You can also become a part of various festivals occurring during December and January.

Is it easy to get around Edinburgh?

Edinburgh Scotland is a very tourist-friendly region with various ways of easy locomotion around the city.  Even in the busiest tourist season, the compact city offers easy ways to roam about. The best way to move around the city during your Edinburgh travel is walking from the center. It will take about 20-30 minutes from the center to reach the farthest point of the city in any direction.

For the points outside the center, the range can be reached by an easy 45-minute walk. But sometimes the ever-changing weather of Edinburgh Scotland can ruin your plans to stroll through the beautiful city.

Many people prefer cycling through the great routes of National Cycle Network, on roads as well as traffic-free regions. It consists of about 75 km of the off-street path for walking and cycling. You can hire a bike from various cycle renters, but make sure to lock it securely after parking to avoid theft.

Edinburgh has an extensive bus route, covering the complete city and the surroundings. Most of the festival venues are easily accessible by bus. The Night bus service also helps you to reach your accommodations in a short period. Tickets are available on board, but make sure to have some change, 1.5 pounds per ride.

The day bus pass costing 4 pounds allows you to have unlimited rides the whole day. Not very popular, the free Wi-Fi trams run from Edinburgh Airport to the York Place at the eastern end of the city and cost 1.7 pounds for City Zone travels, taking you through all stops but the airport.

Black cabs, Uber and other taxi services are available all over the city. You can hire a black taxi from any of the taxi ranks or flagged down in the street. A taxi ride through the city center cost somewhere between 5 to 15 pounds, depending on the distance and waiting time.

Arthurs Seat hike - top tips

This large green hill was formed as a result of 350 million years old volcanic eruption of an extinct volcano. The most beautiful and highest point of Edinburgh is located in Holyrood Park, towards the east of the city center, among the mystical and majestic hills. Dating back to more than 2,000 years ago, this is one of the most beautiful, colorful, and lush points of the city.

Due to its diverse flora and volcanic geology, this point holds great scientific interest. You can even hike to the top to get the panoramic views, but it could be difficult for people who are not a hiking fan. Along with fascinating views, enjoy the fascinating natural greenery on the way.

Before you go hiking the gorgeous hill, there are few things that you should keep in mind:

  • Before going for a walk, check the weather forecast to make sure that you will not have to face unfavorable conditions that might ruin the visit.
  • Take water with you as you will need a lot of strength to climb up the hill due to strong wind tides. This may induce dehydration, so be prepared. Bring a map of Edinburgh with you to recognize the landmarks when you are having a view from the top. Pay a visit to the nearby ranger's lodge, containing information about local fauna and flora.
  • Behind a tent-like structure, you will find 'Our Dynamic Earth' that has interesting signs that explain the formation of Arthur’s Seat and the crags.

The Loch Ness Centre, the village of Drumnadrochit, scenic Glen Affric, and the Caledonian Canal in Fort Augustus are some worth visiting sites nearby.

2. Stirling

The city is famous mainly because of the large castle that holds great importance in the history of Scotland. This medieval castle was home to Scottish royalty and has witnessed various battles.

Today people come here to witness the ancient history and the principle rooms where people used to live. The royalty of the medieval period used the nearby Holy Rude church. Battle of Bannockburn site, National Wallace Monument, and the town of Falkirk are other important attractions.

3. Scottish Borders

The southern region of Scotland with England border is known as Scottish Border. The large hilly rural area has seen many Scottish and English armies come and go over the centuries. The area has various historical sites like old market towns, ruined grand abbeys, Roman sites, castles, broches, and beautiful scenery with a huge network of hiking paths.

Floors Castle, Thirlestane Castle, Hermitage Castle, Mary Queen of Scots Visitors Center, Coldstream Museum, and Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum are some of the most important points of the region.

4. Hadrian's Wall

The Romans built this 73 miles long wall in the Roman province of Britannia, sometime around 122 A.D. As the construction was initiated by Emperor Hadrian, so is the name given to it. Till the 5th century, the wall was used by the Romans to protect England from the wild north.

After being designated in 1987 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it became a popular tourist attraction. Take the recent guided book on the wall to learn about the various interesting sites in the region and to choose the best among them.

The beautiful city of Roslin is famous mainly for its iconic holy site, Rosslyn Chapel, but has a mysterious history and beautiful natural surroundings. Dating back to the 15th century, this enchanting chapel was built as a Roman Catholic Church for the Sinclair family.

Afterward, it became part of the Scottish Episcopal Church and is today owned privately by the Earl of Rosslyn. This is one of the architectural gems of the country with intricate stone carving at the pillars, arches, and exterior of the building. Various secular and religious symbols and imagery is carved throughout the chapel.

Best way to tour Edinburgh castle

This mighty World Heritage Site in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland, is one of the most important historical sites. The castle has a long history, crown jewels, and stunning views to offer the visitors.

Located at the Castle Rock, at the height of about 130 meters above sea level, this historical fortress dominates the skyline of the Scottish capital. It is not easy to reach this worthy site as no transportation will take you up.

You need to leave your car, taxi, or whatever mode of transportation you are using, down at the bottom of the hill and walk up through the volcanic castle rock.

Edinburgh Castle facts

Being the most popular tourist destination of the country, more than 1.56 million visitors come to visit this magnificent site to explore the ancient history and witness the city through the castle hill. There are certain facts about this unique site that you should know before going there to make your visit more informative and fun.

The Castle Rock was formed as a result of a volcanic eruption that happened millions of years ago. It has evidence of being inhabited for more than 3000 years ago.

This mighty castle was built during the early 12th century and remained under siege for hundreds of years as it remained to be the conflict site between England and Scotland. Who occupied the castle has control over the entire country.

The castle had a strategic advantage due to the mighty rock so, it survived various battles due to its strong defensive position.

Since the 12th century, the castle served as the royal residence, till 1633 when its residential rile was declined with the demise of the last Scottish monarch inhibiting it. Till the 17th century, it was used as military barracks and as a prison during the 18th and 19th centuries. During the early 19th century, it was recognized as an important national heritage and came under restoration.

The tall and high castle can be spotted from most of the parts of Edinburgh Scotland and is high here for centuries. Walking up the hill, you are walking through the footsteps of the kings, queens, and soldiers of old times.

OUR CUSTOMERS LOVE OUR TOURS

Tripadvisor Reviews: Very informative. We did several tours during our stay and everyone we met was helpful. Today we had a tour with James and he had us in stitches! We were the last 2 people on the bus at the end of the day and so we got our own personal tour. Definitely recommend! Reviewed April 2024. If in doubt, choose Edinburgh Bus Tours. Our overall experience on both buses were brilliant, all the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Our guide, Joy, on the green bus around the city was very knowledgeable, fun and answered our questions. On the blue bus we enjoyed listening to the headphones (in specific languages) while taking in the sights. Thank you to you all for making our visit fun! Reviewed March 2024.

Highlights of Scotland Tour

Highlights of Scotland

This was my second G Adventures tour and it proved to be as enjoyable as the first one, which was the main reason my wife and I booked it. The small size of the tour group and the variety of people made it all the better. The tour offered a good balance between structured visits of major attractions and free time to explore on our own. I would not hesitate to recommend a G Adventures tour to anyone seeking a guided travel experience in the company of other like-minded travelers.

6-Day Outer Hebrides & Skye Adventure Small-Group Tour from Edinburgh Tour

6-Day Outer Hebrides & Skye Adventure Small-Group Tour from Edinburgh

This is a fabulous tour and Rabbie's have surpassed our expectations for it. Everything about it was brilliant...even the intense weather we experienced in Lewis, which made the trip even better, as it gives you a true idea of what it's really like! Saying that we also had beautiful sunshine and each day was a magical treat. The tour is very well planned and you see a lot in those days - far more than doing it on your own. The accommodation was also lovely...all the B&Bs we stayed at were incredibly friendly and hospitable and we would definitely stay there again. A HUGE shout out to our tour guide Sean who made our trip truly memorable. His knowledge of history, geography, everywhere we visited, and storytelling abilities. his kindness, caring and brilliant sense of humour exceeded all our expectations and even when things had to be altered due to unforeseen circumstances, he still made sure our trip was wonderful. Thank you, Sean! I have gone on numerous Rabbie's Day Tours and this was the first time going on a multi-day tour and Rabbie's did not disappoint. I will be booking my future tours with them again for sure, no mistake. Thank you Rabbie's for making out holiday such a wonder :)

Isle of Skye & the Outer Hebrides (B&B)

This was a great tour that showed true Scottish spirit! From our fantastic guide, Gill, to the wild places she took us to, to the stories of Highlanderss fighting for freedom, this tour did not disappoint. Because it was a smaller tour bus, we were able to get to places the big guys can't and it helped us truly appreciate Scotland in all its glory. The group of travelers we were with were so great and my mom and I had a wonderful time. I can't thank Gill enough for making this such a memorable trip!!

This was a trip I will always remember. Each day brought a different aspect of Scotland’s history to life and the landscapes were incredible. Our guides were amazing. Very knowledgeable, engaging, and focused on the needs of the group. I would highly recommend this tour and the guides that took us from the Bronze Age to today through stories and experiences.

What people love about Europe Tours from Edinburgh

Tom is a great guide. Would recommend the tour.
My husband and I had the most amazing time on this trip through Scotland! Couldn’t have asked for a better tour director than Mike and bus driver Mark.
Wee Andy was a perfect host. He was personable, friendly and managed to learn all of our 11 names in minutes. He was very knowledgeable on the tour itinerary and showed a good sense of humour. We felt confident with him as a driver and tour leader as he was able to manage anything that was thrown at him, from itinerary changes due to storms as well as any accomodation issues. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and cannot fail it at any level. Well done Andy and experience tours!

Welcome to the Athens of the North

Which other British city can deliver up two extinct volcanoes, one garnished with a dramatic castle atop it, and two distinct, highly photogenic UNESCO-rated districts? Add into the mix the world’s largest arts festival and a surfeit of beautiful green spaces and you have yourself a world-beating destination. Little wonder then that Auld Reekie is still regarded as the Athens of the North.

Start off by meandering your way down the slightly over a mile-long Royal Mile (it’s based on the longer Scots mile measurement) stopping off for a snifter in the Jinglin’ Geordie on Fleshmarket Close. Call in at the Witches Well, which memorialises the many women put to death on suspicion of witchcraft, witness mindboggling optical illusions at the Camera Obscura and get a slice of medieval subterranean life at the Real Mary King’s Close. Take in the view from the Athenian acropolis of Calton Hill, one of many imposing monuments in the city.

Head down through the maze of elegant architecture that is the New Town towards villagey Stockbridge where homely bistros, cosy pubs and indie boutiques await. Or else make your way to the 70-acre Royal Botanic Garden to take in the splendour of two vast Victorian glasshouses and around 800 varieties of rhododendron. Wander along the banks of the Water of Leith ‘til you reach Dean Village, a ridiculously scenic area that’s home to two of Edinburgh’s best galleries set amid a stunning sculpture park, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Modern Two, the latter with its neon banner reassuring you that ‘Everything’s Going to be Alright’. Stroll across Bruntsfield Links where people have been playing golf since the 15th Century and indulge yourself with coffee and cake in one of the many cafes here.

One perhaps does not tend to think of Edinburgh as a typical seaside destination, but the coastal suburbs of Joppa, Musselburgh and Portobello all have their own charms. Elsewhere the studenty Newington, chic Marchmont and genteel Morningside are all worth exploring once you’ve exhausted the city centre. Book your flights to Edinburgh today and start exploring.

Edinburgh vacation FAQs

Make the most of your edinburgh vacation.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, Edinburgh has become something of a whisky mecca in recent years, with the UK’s first vertical whisky distillery set to open soon in Leith. It will join the Holyrood distillery run by a youthful team of master distillers and the behemoth that is the Johnnie Walker Princes Street visitor experience. Combine that with a clutch of gin distilleries and several craft beer breweries and you can see how the city’s boozy reputation was built to outlive last orders.

What are the best places to visit in Edinburgh?

A stroll down the Royal Mile is the perfect introduction to Edinburgh. Starting at the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, follow the cobbles and you’ll come across some of the city’s most famous attractions. These include the Scotch Whisky Experience, St Giles’ Cathedral, the ultramodern Scottish Parliament Building and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. You can even venture inside the King’s official residence in Scotland, complete with an art gallery with seasonal exhibitions, before hiking up Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park. Make time to wander down the Mile’s many atmospheric closes and wynds.

Princes Street is the city’s main thoroughfare and a key shopping area. Well-known high-street names such as Boots, H&M and Marks and Spencer rub shoulders with souvenir shops and independent outlets. Several of the street’s most famous names have now closed, including the historic department store Jenners, which is now being redeveloped as a luxury hotel complex. Nearby though you’ll find Multrees Walk, the city’s luxury shopping enclave and home to the only Harvey Nichols department store in Scotland. Relax in the pleasantly maintained Princes Street Gardens complete with a Beaux Arts-style fountain and large floral clock, perhaps calling into the Scottish National Gallery on the Mound for a dash of culture, or you can scale the impressive Gothic rocketship that is the Scott Monument.

Few cities can claim to have an ancient volcano within easy reach of the city centre but that’s precisely what Arthur’s Seat is. The short but strenuous hike up to the summit of this grassy hill in Holyrood Park is worth it for the prime views it affords. There are several trails of varying difficulty including the gentler Salisbury Crags route – wear decent walking boots to navigate the dirt paths and uneven stone trails. From the top you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of Edinburgh’s skyline, including Edinburgh Castle, the Firth of Forth and the coast beyond.

Edinburgh’s Old Town is easily one of the most atmospheric quarters of the city, with a romantic skyline of higgledy-piggledy old buildings bedecked with spires and turrets and other fairytale architecture. Highlights include picturesque, winding Victoria Street, George IV Bridge and its Harry Potter associations and Greyfriars Bobby, plus the 104 marble Scotsman Steps which were developed into a public artwork by artist Martin Creed in 2010. Take in an exhibition at the Fruitmarket Gallery and stop for a pint on the Grassmarket, which has held a bustling market since the 14th Century and was once the site for public executions.

Built from around 1767 to 1850, Edinburgh’s New Town is a masterpiece of town planning complete with Neoclassical flourishes and Georgian period pieces. Its elegant UNESCO-listed contours are comprised of a cityscape dotted with garden squares, terraces, crescents and secluded lanes made up of some of the most handsome sandstone buildings in Britain. Go for a spot of antiquing on stately Dundas Street, have an indulgent afternoon tea at The Dome on George Street or get your fill of famous faces at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery on Queen Street.

Moored alongside Leith’s Ocean Point Shopping Centre is the Royal Yacht Britannia, where an audio tour provides a glimpse into the private lives of the Royal Family. The Royal Yacht has travelled more than a million miles and its splendour is showcased in its 412ft (125m) build. Pose for a photo wearing a Royal Navy cap in the Petty Officers bar, the ‘Verge Inn’. For a lovely treat, take afternoon tea on board, in the Royal Deck Tearoom.

Where are the best things to do in Edinburgh?

  • The highlight of any visit, Edinburgh Castle dominates the city, set high atop the volcanic Castle Rock. Immerse yourself in its history and traditions but don’t be startled by the one o’clock gun salute fired daily (except Sunday) since 1861. Don’t miss the Stone of Destiny, Crown Jewels or Prisons beneath the Great Hall. Enjoy a pot of tea here in the Tea Rooms, along with dainty sandwiches and homemade scones. Move on down the Royal Mile from here, past traditional tartan souvenir shops, to the Scottish Parliament building and the Palace of Holyroodhouse – the official residence of the King when he's in Scotland. Book a Royal Edinburgh tour to see more.
  • Edinburgh’s museums offer up a diverse mix of inspiring collections. Kids of all ages will love the National Museum of Scotland – from meteorites to mummies and monsters of the deep. Have a taste for the macabre? Check out the Surgeons' Hall Museum with its anatomical oddities, ghoulish death masks and even a book said to have been fashioned from the human skin of a murderer. Alternatively, take a fascinating dip into recent social history at the People’s Story Museum or for a trip into literary Edinburgh delve between the covers of the Writers’ Museum which charts the lives and influence of three of the country’s most famous scribes: Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson.
  • Anyone with even a passing interest in the worlds of theatre and comedy should not miss the world’s largest arts festival. For three weeks in August the streets of Edinburgh come alive with buskers, street theatre and live entertainment filling practically every cobblestone. Every conceivable performance space in the city is rammed with keen audiences watching in rapture at the new shows on offer. The International Festival is acclaimed for bringing opera, classical music and world-class theatre, while the Fringe is famous for off-the-wall comedy and offbeat drama. Both offer astonishing talent giving stellar performances. Then there are spine-tingling spinoff festivals covering the worlds of books, art, film and music, plus a host of compelling festivals held outside of August, such as the Edinburgh Science Festival (April).
  • The mighty Edinburgh Castle is also home to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo – one of Scotland’s most iconic events. Each August, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world queue around the block in Edinburgh for a spectacular showcase of the world’s best military bands, pipers and drummers, dancers and theatre groups. Each 90-minute show ends with a performance of the haunting Lone Piper and a dazzling fireworks display, making it an unforgettable experience.
  • Also on the Royal Mile, and great fun, is the Scotch Whisky Experience. All tours start with a swirling, bubbling barrel ride through a replica distillery and before you know it you've become part of the whisky making process. You’ll see the world’s largest whisky collection and of course have time to sample a ‘wee dram’. Guaranteed you’ll leave happier than when you went in.
  • Dining in Edinburgh is a rich and diverse experience not to be missed. The capital is home to no fewer than five Michelin-starred restaurants, several of them in the trendy port district of Leith, alongside countless fish and chip shops and traditional pubs such as The Last Drop where you can sample the national dish haggis, neeps and tatties (mashed swede and potato). Meanwhile the weekly Farmers Market on Castle Terrace and its hipper cousin in Stockbridge are great places to sample local produce and get a glimpse of Edinburgh life.
  • Edinburgh’s nightlife is varied from sipping a dram of whisky in a quaint pub to going through the menu at a stylish cocktail bar in the New Town. Have a drink in the cosy Halfway House, Edinburgh’s smallest pub, or try some of over 300 malts at Whiski Bar. Go and see a live band at one of the city’s innumerable quirky venues like Summerhall set in the former Old Royal Veterinary College, or witness some traditional folk music in The Royal Oak.

Tour Itinerary

Tour information, tour route map.

On our Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh we travel via Glasgow to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. We’ll make our first stop at the charming village of Luss which sits on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.

Sparkling lochs, tumbling waterfalls and majestic Munros takes us to Rannoch Moor and Glencoe. We’ll stop at Scotland’s most famous glen and hear about the infamous Glencoe Massacre of 1692, when the MacDonald’s were slaughtered by the Campbells.

At Glenfinnan we’ll climb up to the viewpoint for stunning views of Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel. You’ll see the 21 arches of the Glenfinnan Viaduct curve through the glen as the route to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts.

We’ll get off the beaten track for views over Loch Duich and the Five Sisters of Kintail before travelling over the bridge to the Isle of Skye.

Glencoe

Your friendly driver-guide has the flexibility to ensure you see the best of the island whatever the weather. Skye never disappoints – there is just so much to see.

You can’t miss Skye’s Mountain range, the Black Cuillins, which adorn calendars and paintings the world over. The sparkling crystal-clear waters of the Fairy Pools lie at the foot of the Cuillins and make for great photos, or even a spot of wild swimming!

We’ll have time to explore Portee and enjoy some lunch before we head to the Trotternish Peninsula. The awe-inspiring scenery never seems to stop, and we’ll get spectacular views at the Quiraing, Mealt Falls and Kilt Rock before we reach the famous landscape of the Old Man of Storr.

Fairy Glen

We cross the Skye Bridge on to the mainland and Eilean Donan Castle*. The castle sits on an island at a point where three great sea lochs meet, surrounded by majestic highland scenery. Eilean Donan was used in many films including Highlander and James Bond epic, The World is Not Enough.

The village of Fort Augustus lies at the southern end of Loch Ness and is lunch stop. You can enjoy an optional cruise on Loch Ness or take a stroll along the Caledonian Canal.

Our journey continues through the Cairngorms National Park, passing Blair Castle to Pitlochry for our final refreshment stop of the day. We return to Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh via the Queensferry crossing ending our 3-day Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh.

22/03/23 – Helen and Whitney-May

This was just the most wonderful experience and I would like to commend you and Jerry (our tour guide) on what will likely be the absolute highlight of our trip to the UK (we still have a little while here but you’re going to be hard to beat!) A million thank you’s for this experience. It was all round amazing, from every annoying enquiry I sent last minute to the office, through to the on-the-ground offering. The carefully researched commentary, lovely bus, caring on time guest service levels provided by Jerry and well, the scenery -though not your making 🙂 –  was next level heavenly. I cannot recommend your tour more highly! Warm regards.

17/03/23 – Taylor

We LOVED our tour with Discover Scotland! Our guide Michael was amazing we could not have ask for anyone better. We enjoyed our whole trip from the bus rides hearing stories, history, songs and much more about Scotland, to our quick picture stops, all our longer spots where we had time to explore, and our free time in Kyleakin.  We felt like our interests were heard by our guide and we were given options and suggestions to do things we would enjoy.  The only thing we wished we could change was staying longer. We are very thankful for our guide and discover scotland for everything. Thanks for everything

02 /11/ 22 – Sergio

I had a wonderful time with Discover Scotland Tours. We had an amazing tour guide also our driver named Jerry! The tour had plenty of photographic stops from day 1. Driving through the Highlands into the Isle of Skye and to Loch ness the group and I could feel the magic Scottish atmosphere. Thank you Jerry for taking care of every single one of us and thank you Discover Scotland Tours for this fantastic experience.

10/10/22 – Vanessa

We had an amazing time! John our guide was perfect! I can’t say enough good things about him! He obviously loves his job and the island.  I appreciated how you kept in touch with me leading up to the tour and how responsive and clearly  you answered my questions. I will most definitely recommend John Black and your company to everyone willing to hear me go on about what an amazing experience we had. Thank you for everything and with some luck we will be making more plans with your company.

19/08/22 – Kylie + Corbin

Our 3-day Isle of Skye tour with Scott was unforgettable! Despite road closures to start the trip, Scott maintained positivity that radiated throughout the group. Each day brought adventure and memories that we will always cherish. It’s easy to see that Scott loves people and Scotland as he went out of his way to make sure everyone got to see and do what they set out to. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and guide!

02/08/22 – Angelina

My friends and I recently went on the Isle of Skye, Highlands, and Loch Ness 3-day tour from Edinburgh, and it was the highlight of our vacation! Our tour guide, John Black, was quite the character. Throughout the whole trip, he was super cheery and always cracking jokes. His personal anecdotes, vast knowledge, and captivating story-telling provided us with a unique glimpse into the Scottish people, culture, and history. John was extremely accommodating for everyone on the tour, making frequent stops for bathroom breaks and food throughout the day. The bus itself was very comfortable, with AC and plenty of space for everyone, and had great views no matter where one sat. Our accommodation was booked through Discover Scotland as well, at Winklebeech bnb in Kyleakin. It had a quaint and homey vibe, and the owner was super welcoming. She was also extremely accommodating to our dietary restrictions and even offered us some bug spray after seeing all of our midge bites! The rooms were tidy and comfortable, with all the necessities one may need. We managed to hit all the destinations on the tour, and it ran very smoothly with no delays. We were especially in awe with the Isle of Skye- It’s a must-see for everyone who visits Scotland! Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Discover Scotland Tours and would visit again in a heartbeat!

28 /07/22 – Roxanne

We had a wonderful time and it was through this tour that Scotland came alive for us. Our Tour Leader made a point of getting to know each of us. In between the gorgeous countryside and  the historical background Michael provided, he played songs told amusing stories and made it us feel like we were all part of one family. There were lots of stops for the bathroom and food as well. He was patient answering all of our questions and was respectful of the country’s we came from. We loved this tour and will be talking about it for quite some time. Also good value for our money.

11/07/22 – Darryl

We were very happy with our three day tour. This being our first, and probably only trip to Scotland, we appreciated the variety of things we saw and the general information about your country.

We were especially impressed with our tour guide, John Sheedy. In addition to being an all-around nice guy, he was very attentive to everyone’s needs and well prepared with interesting stories. Having grown up on the isle of Skye was a bonus. John conveyed his genuine love and pride of Scotland and made our trip fun and comfortable.

01/07/22 – Jessica

Mark and I had THE BEST weekend. It’s my first time in Scotland, and although it was a whirlwind, I’m excited to get back and spend more time in certain places. Accommodation was great, Garry was FANTASTIC. So warm and bubbly and knowledgeable and fun.  We’re both quite introverted and I was overwhelmed and missing my children and we never once felt pressured or intruded on, but also Garry made us both feel so seen and included, I was so grateful for how he handled us. Lots of stops, would be good to have a bit more time in some places, but I also really liked ticking lots of things off my list. It was also really relaxing, I slept on the bus all the time – as a parent it was just so lovely to not have to worry about ANYTHING.  Garry added a few fun things in that I wasn’t expecting which was so great! Lots of Harry Potter stops! A DINOSAUR FOOTPRINT! I just loved every minute.  I would do it again in a heartbeat. I hope you add some northern Scotland tours! Let me know if you do.

10/06/22 – Gráinne

My tour was the Isle of Skye, the Highlands & Loch Ness 3 day tour with Gary. The itinerary was great. Loved all the stops. Loads of time at each stop , didn’t feel rushed. Our tour guide, Gary, was fantastic. He had loads of fun facts and quips and kept us all motivated even though the weather was against us. Will definitely recommend Gary and the tour to anyone!

Please contact us to let us know the name of the accommodation you have reserved.

There are cash machines on route should you require to take out money while on tour.

Can I reserve a specific seat on the mini coach?

Seats are chosen on a first come first serve basis, we are unable to take requests for specific seats. Our mini coaches all have panoramic windows so the beautiful Scottish landscape can always be enjoyed, no matter where you sit.

If you suffer from motion sickness, then you may be affected by the roads in Scotland. They can be twisty and narrow. It’s best to come prepared with a travel sickness preventative, whether that be medicinal, wristbands or another option, to ensure it doesn’t impact your overall enjoyment of the tour.
