Amazing Dive Safari Week

I spent just over a week with a friend and the Seawolf team in September 2015 and loved it. Seawolf are a German company, and my friend who is German and lives in Hamburg sorted it all out, so while I can't comment on the booking process and will give you an insight into the week. So you fancy doing a dive safari; a week on a boat diving 3 to 4 times a day? This could be the place for you, but first you need to be aware of a few things that come with a trip of this kind. 1) Dive Experience: you need it. Although some of the dives in the week will be easy, a lot of them won't be, and you need a decent dive log of experience to do these trips, not just your PADI Open Water certificate. Check with them before you book. 2) Egypt is hot. In late September it was 37/38 degrees every day. You're surrounded by desert so it's windy. The breeze is nice but the sea will be choppy and the boat ride a challenge on some days. If you're easily sea sick this isn't for you, unless you know the drugs work for you. You may be moving at night so be prepared 3) People. You need to like them and be comfortable within yourself because you're going to be in a small space with strangers all week and you're stuck with them. It's the luck of the draw who and how many people are there too. There will be a minimum of 10 people and maybe as many as 20. 4) Dive Buddy: do this with a diver you know and trust so you have your own buddy. Again you don't know who you're going to be with, their attitude or experience. You don't want a complete fool who thinks he knows it all. They're out there but 25 metres under water doesn't lend itself to idiots who disregard the rules and guidelines. I've come across them and made sure I spoke up but I had my friend diving with me so no issues here. 5) Nature: there are no guarantees. The small stuff is reliable. It stays put. The big stuff moves. You cannot expect to see everything you want but being here will increase your chances. Don't come with expectations and a "must see" list or you'll be disappointed. Nature doesn't work that way. 6) Equipment. Given the experience you should have you should have your own gear. Weights and Cylinders provided on the boat. You can rent regs and lamps if you don't have them. Make sure you have spares and it's been serviced before you fly. 7) What clothing / stuff to pack. Shoes aren't worn on the boat so don't take extra. Take what you need to travel. T-shirts, shorts and swimwear for the day (and sun cream), a hoody and a hat for the evening. Take toiletries and something to keep your eyes clean and dry. Wet ears and windy evenings will not end well and diving with an ear infection or a head cold is a no no. Towels and blankets are provided. So are bath robes. Take shower gel and shampoo but leave the perfume at home. Don't forget phone chargers but be prepared for littel or no signal, including ifi. It is on the boat but it will depend on where the boat is and on the whole, Egypt isn't that good at wifi, even in the hotels. Take cash for tips, which are well earned. If you're renting stuff you'll need to pay for it on the boat, and while soft drinks and water are free you'll need to pay for wine and beer. Euros best. OK.. that should set you up. Now for the review! As it was all booked through a German travel agent, all I had to do was get to Hurghada. I flew Turkish airlines via Instanbul, and Turkish were very good indeed! Because of my flight times I got a hotel which the Seawolf team organised for me. I stayed at the Bellavista hotel 100 yards from the dive centre. The Bellavista was nice enough, but to be honest I would stay there for anything more than a night or convenience. It's an all inclusive hotel and couldn't handle changing a largish Egyptian Pound note for a drink and the guys behind the bar were very unwelcoming. Other staff were very helpful. The next day I was collected from the hotel and walked down to the dive centre where I hung out on the beach and had lunch. I was waiting for all the other flights to arrive. Once everyone had arrived we were bussed down to Marsa Alam; about 2.5 hours. The boats do a lot of safaris so may not be in Hurghada. The bus was comfortable and the atmosphere friendly with the other divers. Once at the boat we were shown to our cabins. Very nice looking boat. We met for dinner and were given a boat briefing; rules and regulations, signing all the dive related paperwork and presenting dive logs and PADI qualification cards for inspection (proof of experience). There are 11 divers and 12 crew on the boat. 11 divers is low so we were lucky; it wasn't full and all of the people seemed nice. The next 6 days was get up around 5 or 6am, dive, eat breakfast, chill out, dive, have lunch, chill and relax, dive, relax some more, night dive, dinner, chill out and bed. Sounds good right? Well it was. Every dive started with a proper briefing with the use of maps and images on the TV screen. Q and A made sure you understood and our dive guide Rambo kept a good balance of professionalism and fun. The crew made the whole trip and experience excellent. They work hard to keep you fed and watered, comfortable and waited on in many ways. When it was time to gear up they were there to help you get your gear on. When it was time to get out they helped you out, helped you get your kit off, hung up your wetsuit for you and gave you a "welcome back aboard" drink. The boat was kept clean and tidy and this was doe while we were diving so it didn't get in the way. The kitchen staff did wonders. You hardly knew they were there until it was time to eat and then there was a great selection. Food on a German boat has a German menu but there was something to like. I don't eat rice, pasta or bread but there was easily enough vegetables and meats. At breakfast we could have eggs the way we wanted on top of everything else already out. I did 17 dives in all. I sat a few out if I felt like it; it as my holiday after all and I wanted time to rest too. My friend simply buddied up with the dive guide or another team. We got to dive at Elphinstone Reef and Ras Mohammed. We dived the Thistlegorm wreck. I got close to Tuna, Large Moray, huge Stone fish, amazing reefs, 2000 foot reef walls, Blue spotted Sting Ray, a Dolphin and a large Green Turtle. An Oceanic White Tip shark came to check me out and got within a foot of me, and I got to lay on the sand and watch Red Sea Anemonefish defend it's patch and corals filter feed in the currrent. It was truly wonderful diving; the Red Sea delivers but it was the Seawolf Soul and the incredible team that made it one of the best holidays I've ever had. I would love to go again.

I didn't dislike anything I loved everything! I was a little scared and had a life jacket and the diver held my hand and took me to see the fishes underwater and even swapped masks with his when I had a problem breathing with mine. Very professional team at seawolf reefking. May God bless them all

Glass bottom boat trip over the coral reef. We booked it through Adam at our Hotel. We were picked up on time and dropped off..the whole thing was being filmed and photos taken throughout. Seasick pills were offered to everyone before we set sail. we spent 50-60 minutes over the reef on the lower deck. you could see so much it was amazing- including a turtle. A diver was in the water filming us from the outside in..after an hour we moored alongside a floating cafe where you could swim and snorkel out over the reef with guide. Snorkels, fins and floatation jackets were available if you wanted. Good toilets with showers and a lovely sun deck with mattresses to sunbathe. A nice cafe with snacks and drinks. We were there for another 90 minutes or so before we sailed back. photos and DVD's were available to buy if you wanted at a fairly reasonable price- about £30 for 50 photos, the video plus a cd of music and another of the reef... a really good trip

We did this trip whilst staying in Hurgarda. We booked it from our hotel and were picked up by a rude driver who didn't turn on the air con! We arrived and waited for a boat whilst the owners dog pooped just centimetres from us! We had to wait in the sun as all the shade was taken by all the other Russian guests. Again we were the only Brits on the trip and were virtually ignored. The trip started with us all getting on the boat for coke and cake. Not recommended as your likely to be sick shortly after! The sea was really rough and we were soaked with spray they then led is downstairs. The boat was overcrowded and there were no seats at the windows. The crew moved people up but then they were rude to us and made the trip uncomfortable. The fish were amazing and it is like seeing an aquarium BUT it's also like being cooked in a giant class tank. The temperature inside must have been close to 60 degrees! I felt faint and with the motion I was really ill. The fish were attracted to the deposit I made over the side if the boat. The seasickness on this trip was the worst I have ever experienced. The end if the trip was to a snorkelling platform which would have been great but by then I was so ill I just wanted to die. The photographer on the boat was pushy throughout but luckily focused on the Russians. Recommendations Don't overcrowd the boat and allow people somewhere to sit. Provide vomit bags. Chose a good day to go when sea less rough. Book through a rep if your English so that there is provision for English speakers.

We booked the excursion through the hotel and I can highly recommend it. Although the boat could do with a touch of paint, the experience makes up for it. You get to see a vast array of fish while in the boat and then transfer to a platform and can snorkel over the reef. All the snorkelling equipment is provided or you can use your own. The only downside to the trip and the reason why I can't give it a 5 is that you are followed everywhere by a video camera and photographer. We felt a bit like performing monkeys! If you decide to buy the photos and or video, be sure to haggle them right down on the price!

Want to thank all the Team of Seawolf Divers for the excellent service and experience they gave. Did my OWD Padi in 4 days. Salah, you are one hell of a excellent instructor, you made all my dives a unique experience. Volker thank you very much for everything. If anyone is looking for a professional and well serviced dive experience I strongly recommend Seawolf-divers.de

Dolphins too numerous to count jump on either side of the boat as you head across the waters from northeastern Vancouver Island toward the Great Bear Rainforest on B.C.’s mainland. They’re feeding on herring at the end of the inlet and your boat is on its way to see grizzly bears “where the salmon gather” at Xakwikan (Thompson Sound). Along the way, whales emerge from the shimmering water; eagles soar overhead. Listen to Mike Willie’s gentle voice as he tells stories and explains what wildlife means to his Musgamakw Dzawada’ enuxw (Four tribes of Kingcome) people. “There is a lot of travel time so we talk about First Nations — the past and the present, and where we want to go in the future,” says Willie, who started Sea Wolf Adventures in 2013. “I love it when people ask a thousand questions.” Sea Wolf Adventures takes small tours of people out on the water and into a number of First Nations communities in the Broughton Archipelago. At Alert Bay, you’ll visit the site of a residential school, go into a longhouse and see potlatch masks in the U’mista Cultural Centre. “I feel lucky having grown up in a small community that really never lost our language or our history or traditions,” says Willie. “I just share who I am.”

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

!{Model.Description}

sea wolf safari

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .

Table of liveaboard diving in the Red Sea

This list of  Red Sea liveaboards is in descending customer rating order, followed by  Scuba Diving Luxury Rating  (SDE Lux Rating, see below) , so the liveaboards with the highest customer rating and the best  SDE lux rating  will be at the top of the list. If you want to change the list order, use the “ Sort by ” dropdown below.

Please select a column to search in.

Please type in something to search for.

The Scuba Diving Earth Luxury Rating (SDE Lux Rating) is explained on each liveaboard review when you click the “Discover Liveaboard” link, and is my own Liveaboard Luxury Rating I’ve assigned to  all liveaboards . Choosing between liveaboards is helped by customer scores, and if you get stuck choosing between two or three liveaboards, where each one has a high customer score out of 10, you can use the SDE Luxury Rating to help narrow down your choice.

Think about it like using Booking.com when searching for the best hotel. Booking.com also use a customer score where each customer rates hotels out of 10. This is similar to the liveaboard customer rating, which is also rated out of 10. But let’s say you only like to stay in hotels rated 8 and above on Booking.com, but you also want the hotel to have WIFI or parking, or to have a swimming pool etc. The features each hotel has is usually secondary to the score out of 10.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

sea wolf safari

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.
