Jeep Rental Tour

Took you around Freeport and beaches, and I decided I would never return to Freeport. Nothing interesting to see on the whole tour.

jeep tours freeport bahamas

This excursion is conveniently located right off the ship and this is where the convenience stops. Our time started at about 10:30am and they took our lunch orders as soon as we met at the ship. If I'd known we weren't going to eat lunch until 3, I would have brought along some snacks. We left on a bus to the place where the jeeps were kept and then split into two groups. If you weren't in a group of four, they wanted you to make new friends and share a jeep. Hey, I thought we were doing this because we wanted to "drive" not "ride" in the jeep. Our jeep was in poor condition and had three different sized tires/wheels on it. Some of the jeep tires were almost flat and one jeep kept shutting off and not wanting to restart. There was NO driving on the beach as was advertised to us. After getting into our jeeps, we were taken to a beach area for our first bathroom break. We were immediately greeted by a scaled down version of the straw markets on our way in. We spent 10 minutes waiting for everyone to gather then listened to a 20 minute talk about the history of the islands. We drove for a ways through town then headed out on the jetty that is shown on the advertisements. We drove down, turned around and lined the jeeps in a row to exit. There, we got out, took a few pictures and listened to another 45 minute discussion about the history and environment. We then proceeded to drive to the forest area. Once there, we stopped again for another 30 minute discussion. From there we drove to the gardens, which I must say, was a very beautiful place to eat lunch. (It's almost 3pm at this point and most people are past hungry) After an hour break, and another 10 minutes spend getting everyone back together, we headed back to the beach area where we had started out. There was a small area of private beach and a bar. Most guests were really ready to skip this part and get back to the ship but we managed to ride out our 45 minutes of beach time. (yes, only 45 minutes out of 330 were spent at the beach) After they were through checking the jeeps over, we left to take the jeeps back to there home location and boarded a bus headed back to the ship. I'm sorry if this isn't well written or if its too drawn out but it is a perfect reflection of this excursion. On a positive note, there were there waiting for us as the ship docked and they delivered us to the gate at 6:30pm on the dot, the exact time that passengers were required to be back on board.

I booked a Kayaking and Nature Excursion through a cruiseline for a day stop in Freeport.I was skeptical because sometimes I have found cruise sponsored excursions to be lacking. We were picked up in a very large group as this group was doing multiple excursion types like kayking, biking, jeep tours. After driving about 20 minutes we transferred to a smaller van for our core kayak group. We were given to our guide whose name was Chad. I truly can't say enough nice things about him - super funny, very informative, friendly and very knowledgable about the island and it's flora and fauna. Our group had a couple small children (not with me) and he was very in tune to making sure those kids were taken care of. After driving another 15-20 minutes we reached the Port Luyuca National Park. We were given a brief orientation and then we boarded our tandem kayaks. Chad stayed with the children and even helped a Mom with 3 by putting a young boy in his kayak with him. I had to laugh because this young boy asked Chad a million questions - he had alot of patience! Chad made sure our group was cool with him sticking close to the 2 Mom's with the young kids (of course no one minded). We kayaked for 2.5 miles - about 1hr and 15 minutes through the mangroves. It was gorgeous! Kayaking - 2 to a kayak I learned I don't enjoy that much as I prefer to control my own destiny but it was still a great time. There was alot of manuvering and the path became so narrow in parts you had to take your paddle apart and just use one size. We came to the end and we were about 15 minutes ahead of the rest of group. We enjoyed the beach area and waited for everyone to catch up. We were driven back to where we started where we boarded a very cool "Tom Sawyer" raft with a rope attached to the other side of the river and we were pulled across. We walked about 5 min down a long wooden boardwalk until we came to a gorgeous beach - I believe it was called Gold Rush Beach? Beyond beautiful! Here they had a picnic lunch for us (cold cuts, cookies, fruit, tea/lemonade). We enjoyed the lunch and then had about an hour to enjoy the beach - sandbars, water, etc. There were starfish, the beach was beautiful - can't say enough about this spot. There were about 9 raccoons at this area. Somewhat docile and very used to people. They wait to be fed from the lunch table - very cute and very odd. In the US when you have a raccoon hanging around like that in the daytime you would assume it was likely rabid. In the Bahamas - there is no rabies. Thank goodness! We were then driven back by Chad to the cruiseship with 15 minutes to spare. Chad had a charming way of referring to the group - he called us "family" - thought it was very charming. Chad told us more about the island and answered lots of questions. I have to say both my husband I were greatly impressed. He was very intelligent and engaged - we learned so many new things about the Bahamas. If I am ever in Freeport again I will certainly book another excursion through this company!

Sailed in on Carnival Ecstacy Jan 26th 2012 - Jeep Tour - We happen to be the only couple from our group of 32 who did this tour at this port. What a clean city and tour, I would not have wanted to miss this. We had a Very Good Tour Guide his name was Mario, he was sitting in for someone, he said he usually does the bike tours, I am glad he was our tour guide that day, he did a wonderful job. Informative and Educational, He knew the answers to everything, with honest replies. He was very good at his job. He took us many places the tour lasted about 5 hours or so, get there early. The GBNT are quit a ways from the port where you dock so you will need to have transportation to get there, if you did not book through the cruise line. Bathroom Brakes at the begining , halfway through {Lunch} and last stop is the Junkanoo Resort Bar, at Taino Beach. Try the Miami Vice drink virgin or not. Yumm.... He stops along the way to explain the eco system and the way things work there., places to shop and places to photograph. Remember to ask questions if you see something you want to know about. Do not be shy, but he covered just about everything I saw. Happy Touring!!!!!! Ask for Mario I think they would oblige you.....

Ricardo and Chad were our guides for the Western Heritage Tour. We toured five different sites on the western side of the island and ended our tour at the ocean where we snorkeled and had lunch. Ricardo and Chad were beyond knowledgeable about Freeport and the history of the island. They added in their personal experiences and stories which made the tour that much more enjoyable. Ricardo was very patient with my husband and I as we snorkeled (we hadn't been in ages). We were also very impressed that he knew several varieties of fish and would point them out to us as made our way around the waters. This was the highlight of our cruise trip to the Bahamas. Definitely recommend to others.

My husband and I spent a week on Freeport in Feb 2011 and are going back in 2012. This tour was one of the highlights. Jo, our guide, had more information that most historians. It seemed she truly enjoyed her job. Our jeep had a few mechanical issues, but that just added to the excitement. Our favorite part of the tour was Gold Rock Beach, it is a sight not to be missed!

Jeep Nature Tour – Things To Do in Freeport Bahamas

jeep tours freeport bahamas

freeport bahamas things to do , freeport jeep tour , grand bahama things to do , Jeep tour bahamas , port lucaya things to do

Grand Bahama is a tourist hot-spot in the Atlantic Ocean offering much to see, do and experience. As apart of my Experience Grand Bahama tour, I was given a Jeep Nature Tour around the Island, courtesy of Grand Bahama Nature Tours.

Our Tour began with a drive up Tiano Beach where our group was given a view of the beautiful sandy beach. From there, we drove out to the very end of the southern tip of Grand Bahama and guest were given an opportunity to view the entire southern shore coastline of Grand Bahama, host to many luxury beach-front properties and homes as well as the entrance into on of Grand Bahama’s largest canals.

Knowledgeable and friendly Tour Guide Tony Newbold explained that the Island of Grand Bahama runs 95 miles long and from there we drove out to the northern shore and found out why there are very little to no houses along this coast – as it’s populated mangroves. We then went to our next stop which was lunch at the luscious Garden of the Groves and then beach time at Junkanoo Beach Club.

Due to my limited driving “skills”, I was also given a limited Driving “experience” which included 3 circles around the parking lot – both parking and reversing were done by Newbold (for safety reasons) –  it was an awesome experience.

Finally, after a quick tour of the Port Lucaya area, we were driven back to our host site and thus, given an awesome ending to an awesome day.

I have been to the Bahamas many times, but Island Jeep Tour is one of my favorite trips! It includes everything that everyone should do here. As a Bahamas veteran, I can say only the best about this experience!

Thanks to the professional guides! I was a bit worried about kayaking because I had never done it before, but the instructions were great and I had such a good time!
