Introducing the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2017 Bag Collection. The Cruise 2017 Collection was presented in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last July. The brand's iconic bags such as Speedy, Alma, Neverfull and Petite Malle were seen in sporty theme as it features the new " Louis Vuitton Race " print. Another new design is the " Tropical " print, which presents striped pattern in multiple vibrant colors. The Steamer bags comes in multiple exterior pockets, while the Capucines are made available in plaited leather and a new mini size with chain handle. New styles for this season includes the One Handle Bag and Fringed Noé. The energy, urban futurism and romanticism of the Rio de Janeiro setting inspired Nicolas Ghesquière's cruise collection

If it's Saturday, it must be Rio… Fashion's world tour continued this weekend as Louis Vuitton brought their 2017 cruise show to Brazil. Following on from Chanel's presentation in Cuba, and ahead of the Dior and Gucci shows that take place this week at Blenheim Palace and Westminster Abbey, the LVMH powerhouse put on a breathtaking piece of fashion theatre.

Held in the grounds of Oscar Niemeyer's iconic MAC building - the recently refurbished Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, a modernist flying saucer crash-landed on the bay overlooking Sugerloaf Mountain – 45 models walked down a circular red ramp and wound their way round the white concrete structure as the sun began to set, a moment surely made for Instagram.

"It's all about the architecture," said Vuitton's artistic director of womenswear, Nicolas Ghesquière, explaining the decision to bring his collection to Rio, following last year's cruise show at an equally extravagant John Lautner designed house in Palm Springs. "This is one of the most symbolic buildings in the world. Being able to show a fashion collection in such an architecturally powerful space is a sensorial experience."

Cruise is so commercially important now that the biggest brands spare no expense in showcasing their wares: some 500 guests, including Alicia Vikander, Catherine Deneuve, Zendaya and Brazilian models Isabeli Fontana and Allessandra Ambrosio defied warnings about Zika virus and came to Rio for the event.

It's just over two years since Ghesquiere made his debut for Vuitton – this is his third cruise collection - and he has already established a bold signature, based on stylish experimentation and a skillful bravura. What he wanted to do here, he said backstage, was to pay romantic homage to the "explosive energy and urban futurism" that he found in the city when he first visited last year.

Of course, sportswear has always been important to Ghesquière, and it's no coincidence that Rio is gearing up to host the summer Olympic and Paralympic Games (if those pesky mosquitos behave themselves, that is). This was clearly at the forefront of his mind in a collection that was bold and bright, designed for action, technically proficient and with a fluid, aerodynamic silhouette. Clothes were layered and body conscious, with cut out panels highlighting toned abs; there were running shorts, track pants, warm up jackets and a football print inspired by local artist Aldemir Martins' famous painting of Pele. Dynamic hybrid shoes – a cross between a flip flop and a sneaker – were worn with every look, while bags picked up on a 70s graphic theme that was about "tropicality and urbanity". As Ghesquière explained later, "The main question was how to incorporate into my collection all these elements that are part of Brazilian culture, without forgetting that I am just a visitor who brings his own Parisian references to the moment." It was a gold medal winning effort.

Louis Vuitton is set to present its much-anticipated cruise 2017 collection at Oscar Niemeyer’s Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday. Despite the possibility of contracting the  Zika  virus , the Hollywood and fashion set don’t seem too worried, as A-listers including Alicia Vikander , Catherine Deneuve , Jaden Smith, Zendaya , Doona Bae , Rainie Yang, Alessandra Ambrosio , Isabeli Fontana and Tao Okamoto are among the guests confirmed for the front row.

This is the first time the flying-saucer-shaped museum will host a fashion show. The white modernist structure is reflected in the pool’s base, designed to look “like a flower,” according to late artist Niemeyer . “This setting inspired me right away,” said artistic director Nicolas Ghesquiere . “With the 2017 cruise collection, we’ll be discovering the vision of Oscar Niemeyer .” The museum is celebrating its 20-year anniversary and will reopen soon after the LV presentation. Four Louis Vuitton-sponsored exhibitions will be shown at the museum this year.

Guests will enjoy a jam-packed itinerary, between partying and visiting Rio de Janeiro’s top spots. Post-show, guests will enjoy dinner and entertainment at the expansive mansion Parque Lage at the foot of the historical Corcovado . The morning after, guests will brunch at a private resident in Santa Teresa, which boasts an incredible view of the city. Cuise 2017: Louis Vuitton to show this weekend at the Niterói Museum in Rio

After the Palais de Monaco in 2015 and the Palm Springs home of Bob and Dolores Hope for 2016, Nicolas Ghesquière has flown the fashion pack to Brazil for Louis Vuitton Cruise 2017. The show will take place in the country's second largest city, Rio de Janeiro, at the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum , designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer . Opened in 1996, the saucer-shaped building promises a spectacular show May 28... time to take your Louis Vuitton luggage on a new adventure.

The 2017 Louis Vuitton Cruise show just took place in beautiful, sunny Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The celebrity-studded show was held at the Niterói Contemporary Art Museum (also known as the MAC de Niterói) which was just as stunning as the clothes. Nestled between the Guanabara Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, the futuristic building provided breathtaking views from all sides. See all the big moments and Nicolas Ghesquière's latest work below.

The Collection Unveiled in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Following Chanel's Cruise show in Cuba earlier this month, Louis Vuitton is the latest brand to take it's collection on a tropical getaway.

According to WGSN , it's the first time the museum has hosted a fashion show since it was built in 1910, but not opened until 1996. This year marks its 20th opening anniversary.

The guest seats at the end of the path were set up in a pattern mimicking the walkway which also took advantage of the circular, water-lined path at the base of the building.

Louis Vuitton presented their latest Cruise 2017 collection at The Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum (designed and constructed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer in 1996) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The 2017 Cruise collection pays homage to two major Brazilian artist Helio Oiticica, pioneer of the Neo-Concrete movement and an explorer of space through painting, and Aldemir Martins, an artist renowned for his paintings of flora and fauna, represented the vibrancy of his native region, the Nordeste.

“ Dresses with a streamlined spirit illustrate a new aerodynamic silhouette. Slashed stripes on trousers lengthen then silhouette. Luxuriously embroidered skirts appear to have been wrapped in haste, in the manner of a beach towel. Tech-thongs and neoprene sneakers speak of a heroine who is constantly on the move. As she passes through the museum’s curving corridors, heads turn in her wake. Right down to her ghetto-blaster trunk that brings a musical nod to the Maison’s know-how. ” – from Louis Vuitton
