Nine reasons why you should go to China with Carson Now and the Chamber Travel Club

72222-the_great_wall_of_china_at_jinshanling.jpg

Next April, I will be traveling with the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Travel Club on a trade mission to China. This trip is open to anyone who wants to go, and is a great way to see this country for a really great price. Here are nine reasons why you should go:

1. It's Big This is the most populous country in the world, and a growing world economic powerhouse. Our guided tour is a great way to get a taste of what this country is all about.

2. The Past China has a very rich history, for which many Americans know very little. We will be visiting the Great Wall and the Forbidden City, and the amazing Terra Cotta Warriors at the tomb of the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty.

3. The Present Our visit to Shanghai will let you experience one of the newest great cities of the world, with its massive skyscrapers and modern architecture.

4. The Guided Tour This is the fifth year the Chamber Travel Club has offered this trip, which will be led by the same tour guide as the previous outings. Talk to those who have gone before, and they will tell you the guide is first rate, and will help you understand this vast country in the short time we will have.

5. A Safe Destination For those who have concerns about crime, China may be one of the safest travel destinations in the world. Those who have gone before reported they felt completely safe all the times, even when wandering around back alleys of Beijing and Shanghai while shopping.

6. Explore with your Friends You may be half way around the world, but you will have 20+ friends from Carson City to share the experience with.

7. Everything is taken care of for you You don't have to worry about arranging flights, hotels, meals, tours, etc. All of that is handled for you. Just come and enjoy the trip.

8. The Cost The $2,595 price tag (per person, double occupancy) covers everything including airfare, four and five star hotels, meals, transportation in country and tours. The only cost not covered is your visa ($155) and the tip ($39 per person for the entire trip). By comparison, the cost of a non-stop flight to Beijing is about $1,400 by itself. Part of the reason the cost is so reasonable is that this is classified as a trade mission, so the Chinese government helps to subsidize the trip.

9. The Fun I can't speak for the others, but I plan on having some fun on this trip. I'm hoping to connect with a couple of friends there who are very knowledgable about the country, and can lead us to some hidden spots only journalists would know about.

So check out the trip for yourself . Hope to see you there.

About the Carson City Chamber

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce is the recognized business voice in the community, and offers dozens of networking and training opportunities each year.

Whether you're an existing business that wants continued success, or a new business that's ready to grow, joining the Carson City Chamber of Commerce is one of the best investments you'll ever make!

Chamber creates positive image

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce has served the business community since 1945 and continually strives to build a healthy economy and high quality of life in Carson City and the surrounding area.

To accomplish this goal, the Chamber staff and its board continually strive to institute programs to increase the visibility of its membership to the community.

As with any non-profit membership-based organization, membership has its privileges and the Chamber’s privileges are many. Here are a few highlight:

Our website: More and more consumers and businesses have turned to websites to gain information on areas and local businesses. The Chamber maintains a state-of-the-art site providing members with free listings.

Our networking opportunities:  There’s no better way to get the word out about your business and meet new contacts than in the social setting provided at the monthly Chamber events. Do take advantage of our Soup’s On! luncheons and other networking opportunities. Find them on the Chamber Calendar.

Our social functions allow new members to be introduced.

Our educational programs: As we find the need for businesses to update their practices, we conduct timely educational programs. Our premium annual education program is Leadership Carson City where we create the leaders of tomorrow.

Our advocacy: While we believe it is important to work hand-in-hand with our state and local government, we need to continue to advocate on behalf of business when it appears government has forgotten the importance of the business community. We maintain cordial relations with all forms of government.

Our communications:   Our tool to keep you informed the most efficient way we know how. We won't waste words, but rather we keep it to short-bits and relevant pieces of interest on several subjects. We also include upcoming events for Chamber members. As a member, we'll be able to send out your information in a timely manner.

Our community involvement: When there is a need in our community, we are there! We gather our business member volunteers and clean up our parks and streets, revamp areas that need some TLC, provide support to our sheriff and district attorney in their efforts to fight crime and serve on many local committees that need assistance from the business community. Anyone can call us and when we can, we respond!

Our travel club:   If you love to travel, travel with those who reside in northern Nevada.  We love to plan trips where at the end of the trip, everyone is a friend and we get to see the world together, although we learn to appreciate our little corner of the world so much more.

For more information or call us at 775-882-1565. Our members are important to us!

As we go into the holiday season, thoughts turn to travel whether it is to travel home to our family or whether to just enjoy getting away for those who just don’t want to be home for the holidays.

This past year has truly been the year of travel. Seems like everyone wants to go somewhere while they still can. I can attest there is a time when one has to put the suitcase in the attic or garage and thoughts of far-away places become just that – thoughts. But, oh the memories of all those places will never recede.

While I am no longer able to prowl through airports or climb up to castles or ride the gondola in Venice, I have many recommendations for those who love to travel. I’ve had a suitcase packed most of my adult life and now in my almost 95th year, it’s time to let my feet rest a bit.

The first recommendation is don’t wait! Plan your next trip now since most travelers are having to plan a year in advance and trips sell out fast. You’d be surprised how time flies and before you know it, the time to board that jet is here.

The Carson City Chamber Travel Club is always searching for new places and one of the new places for 2024 is a two-night visit staying at the famous Greenbrier in West Virginia that will be a part of a 7-night visit that begins and ends in Washington, D.C. We have many repeat travelers for whom these historic five-star hotels have become a passion. By October, they can tick this one of their “been there, done that” list.

Collette’s Discover Historical Greenbrier tour departs Oct. 18 right in the middle of the fall foliage season and begins with a two-night stay at the landmark Omni Shoreham Hotel, another D.C. classic hotel with so much history. While in our nation’s capital, all the major highlights will be included: the monuments, the museums, the memorials, and the national cemetery.

Then it’s on to White Sulphur Springs, for two luxurious nights at the Greenbrier where dinners are included in the famous restaurant each night. As the brochure states, “dine amid the grandeur of this historic resort.” You’ll have time to enjoy the amenities of the resort, including the spa, and tour the famous bunker built in the 1950s to store classified documents.

Just about anyone who was/is anyone, has stayed at this amazing hotel “where experiences are timeless and memories last forever.” Just in case you may think you need formal wear for a stay here, we are assured it is “resort casual.”

Then on to Richmond, with a stop to visit Monticello, once the home of Thomas Jefferson. After touring the home, there’s lunch waiting at an 18th century tavern. There will be two nights in Richmond to include a visit to Colonial Williamsburg where you can walk the cobblestone streets as those who lived in the 1770s did.

The final night of this Americana history tour ends back at the fabled Omni Shoreham. On the way back to D.C. from Richmond, there’s a visit planned to Mount Vernon, home of George Washington and Old Town Alexandria.

Cost is $3,999 per person and includes round-trip air from Reno, 7 nights in great hotels, 12 meals to include breakfast daily, 1 lunch, and 4 dinners. Also included is free parking at the chamber office, transfers to the airport, and a chance to make new friends.

Don’t miss this trip! You can peruse the full brochure on the dedicated travel page https://carsoncitychamber.com/spotlight/details/chamber_travel_club, stop by the Chamber at 1900 S. Carson St., or call 775-882-1565. If you’ve already been on a similar tour, check out the other travel offerings for 2024.

Frequently Asked Questions

Battle Born Travel Club was created out of a desire to provide authentic educational experiences to the best students in the world: the ones that surround us every day at Carson High School in Carson City, Nevada. Our tours remain true to that ethos, and as such, are designed with the enrichment and education of our students as the fundamental basis of our travel plans.

carson city chamber travel club

Do I have to go to Carson High School to come on a tour?

While we will always open every tour to our local students first, all are welcome to apply and enroll in our tours for any spots that remain unfilled.

If you're not in the Northern Nevada region, no worries! You can fly out of an alternate gate and we'll meet you on the way or at the destination airport.

carson city chamber travel club

How many people can enroll on a tour?

Every tour is different! Each tour is built by a team of teachers and world travelers to give a unique experience and perspective. Check out the individual information page for any tour you’re interested in to get an idea of the size of our group. We typically range from 12-36 students and community members , b ut we have gone with as few as seven as many as a hundred!

Also, on every tour, we are accompanied by a team of dedicated chaperone hosts ; a local tour director, who is with us 24/7 from arrival to departure ; a dedicated driver for our tour bus ; and local guides for every part of the journey. While it is vital for students to be able to explore new places as they build independence, they're never far from a trained chaperone.

carson city chamber travel club

What about parents? Can we come along?

Of course! Parents, grandparents, cousins, coaches - all from the community are welcome to adventure with us. Adult travelers provide a unique perspective and model responsible traveling for our younger travelers. As an adult traveler, your wonder and amazement translates directly to the students’ experience.

Keep in mind ; however, that the tours are designed, from experiences to pace, for our student travelers. So make sure to bring some comfy walking shoes and and your ability to go with the flow 🙂

carson city chamber travel club

Are there age limits?

BBTC tours are designed with our students in mind, so we ask that any applicants aged 13 or under at the time of travel please reach out to Mr. Spence to evaluate if the tour you’re interested in is the best fit for you.

Travelers who are 23 or older at time of travel will room separate from the teen travelers, and be asked to participate in a background check before we depart.

What if I’m in college by the time we go on tour?

We find many of our travelers are exactly this person! By signing up while still in high school, your family locks in the earliest and best price to keep your monthly payments low, and you will find that your first or second year of college has prepared you to experience your adventure in a completely new light!

If you are attending college out of the area, we have you covered. You are welcome to come back home to fly with the main group, or select an alternate departure city and we’ll meet you there . ✈️

What about safety?

We understand it can be a scary thing to be so far from home . But we also know that confronting that challenge is part of the growth and personal development that can only come from experiencing the many diverse parts of our world.

Every tour is hand - crafted and vetted by Explorica’s muti-national teams of professionals . Tours are monitored from the day we create it to the day we return home in order to ensure that every traveler is as safe as can be while abroad. We constantly monitor and abide by all state department recommendations, as well as reports from Explorica offices in the countries where we travel to. If it isn’t safe - we don’t go.

Also, as mentioned above, we are always surrounded by a team of professional chaperones, local guides, drivers, and most importantly, our 24/7 tour director, who is trained and certified by both Explorica and in - country governments, to keep everyone safe and having the experience of a lifetime.

Check the reviews section at the bottom of this page to hear what students and travelers have to say!

Furthermore, BBTC recommends every traveler consider the travel insurance options provided by Explorica when signing up. More detailed information on travel insurance is located further below on this web page and on each tour’s information/signup page.
