The health and well being of our guests and crew members is our number one priority. Our policies are designed to keep everyone safe, while also allowing for an enjoyable experience.

• All unvaccinated guests over the age of 2 are requested to wear a facial mask while indoors on the vessel.

We are running at up to full capacities which does not allow for much distancing on a passenger vessel. Please bring your mask if you are uncomfortable in what could be a crowded environment or if you are unvaccinated.

The captain was knowledgeable and welcoming. We loved the trip on the boat. We got a good vantage point from which to view the Hudson River and we were able to see historic sites like Olana from the boat.

Our cruise was informative and relaxing. The staff was helpful and the scenery was awesome. Many birds were pointed out along the ride, as well as focal points along the Hudson River.

We had a ball! Our crew was wonderful and it was a wonderful day on the river! Highly recommend for a lovely afternoon with friends and family.

• Washington’s Headquarters  – established as a historic site in 1850 because George Washington spent so much time here during the Revolutionary War!
• Mount Beacon  – the highest point between the Catskills and the Atlantic Ocean. Beacon fires were built here during the Revolutionary War.
• Bannerman Island  – this historic Island is known for its warehouse, built to resemble a Scottish Castle.
• Breakneck Mountain  – legend has it that the mountain was named for a farmer’s bull that fell down the cliff and broke its neck. A granite quarry at its base supplied material for the towers of the Brooklyn Bridge, the base of the Statue of Liberty, and sidewalks in New York City.
• Cold Spring – a quaint town known for its restaurants and antiques.
• World’s End – the deepest point of the Hudson River. Explorers believed that the river stopped there, but eventually realized that after the sharp “S” bend it continued
• Constitution Island  – during the Revolutionary War, chains were run from here to West Point.
• West Point – the United States Military Academy at West Point boasts beautiful & historic buildings including Eisenhower Hall, their chapel, field house, & more.

Hudson River

Flowing from the scenic Adirondack Mountains and emptying into Upper New York Bay in the heart of New York City, the Hudson River has been immortalized in everything from art history to pop culture. Cruises along this historic waterway glide past famous city spots while offering breathtaking vistas of the state’s landscape.

During the early 19th century, the 315-mile river was the chief way to travel and transport goods through eastern New York State. The region’s lush riverbanks and woodlands served as the home and inspiration of the Hudson River School, a group of 19th century romantic landscape painters that included artists such as Thomas Cole and Frederic Edwin Church.

Port stops may include legendary Sleepy Hollow or Franklin D. Roosevelt’s estate of Springwood. You might also venture to Kingston’s "Millionaire Row," where wealthy New York businessmen bought property during the 1800s, or visit the campus grounds of West Point Military Academy.

Hudson River Cruises from New York City to Albany

Cruises on the Hudson River travel round trip from New York City to Upstate New York as far north as Albany. As you travel northward along the Hudson River, you’ll enjoy a very scenic ride with mountainous areas on both sides of the river during part of your journey. The Hudson Valley is sometimes compared to the Rhine Valley in Germany, because it is so picturesque. 

There are also many options for scenic cruises on the Hudson River in different cities and on different parts of the river. You’ll find single day or evening cruises that depart from New York City , Albany , Poughkeepsie , Newburgh and even as far north as Schuyerville , which is about 11 miles east of Saratoga Springs.

A day trip on the Hudson River can range in length from one hour up to nine hours. And an overnight cruise generally lasts about 7 nights.

Hudson River Facts

The Hudson River begins in the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York. It flows in a southerly direction for about 315 miles before reaching its mouth at the Upper New York Bay . A natural border is formed by the Hudson River between New York City and New Jersey.

In addition to the Adirondack Mountains, there are a couple of other mountainous regions along the Hudson River. The Catskills and the Taconic Mountains are located on opposite sides of the river in the Hudson Valley. The Taconic Range has an elevation of about 3,800 feet. The mountains are located on the east side of the river and are connected to the Appalachian Mountains. On the west side of the Hudson, the Catskills are nearly 4,200 feet above sea level. This region of the Hudson is about 86 miles south of Albany.

To the south of the Hudson Valley, Bear Mountain is also a pretty area on the west side of the Hudson River. Not quite as tall as the other two mountain ranges, it reaches an elevation of about 1,300 feet.

The Palisades are another elevated region of the Hudson River landscape. These steep cliffs rise to about 500 feet along the river and are located in northeastern New Jersey and southern New York.

A few of these sites are the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt in Hyde Park, New York; Thayer Hotel in West Point , New York; Bannerman’s Castle on Pollepel Island ; and the Walkway over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Only one major river cruise supplier offers overnight cruises on the Hudson River. American Cruise Lines has 6- to 7-night  itineraries available from late September through late October each year.

Blount Small Ship Adventures has a couple of 14-day packages that combine the Hudson River , Erie Canal and the St. Lawrence River .

It’s a hiking trail in the Hudson Highlands that winds through scenic forestland and past rocky cliffs. The trail’s name comes from its incline—it’s one of the steepest trails in the United States, with an average grade of about 45 degrees. So wear a sturdy pair of sneakers and watch your step!

Native Americans and European settlers used the area surrounding Breakneck Ridge for centuries as a place to hunt and fish. It was also a significant lookout point during the Revolutionary War called “Beacon Hill.”

NEW YORK (AP) — A man was arrested Thursday for allegedly taking a decommissioned New York City fireboat for an overnight cruise on the Hudson River, before becoming stuck, jumping ship and stealing another vessel, police said.

He was charged with two counts of grand larceny, officials said. He had not been arraigned as of Thursday afternoon and it was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

The man commandeered the fireboat, known as the John J. Harvey, by untying it from its mooring at Pier 66 off the west side of Manhattan, according to authorities. The 130 foot (40 meter) long vessel, which now serves as a museum, earned local acclaim after it was used to evacuate survivors of 9/11.

Once aboard the fireboat, the man was able to drift a short distance into the Hudson River, police said, but quickly got stuck. He leapt overboard, plunging into the frigid waters and later emerging on a second stolen vessel, according to police.

He navigated that sailboat toward Pier 51, roughly 15 blocks south of the original location, police said. The department’s Harbor Unit responded to a 2:30 a.m. call about a stolen boat and arrested the man on the sailboat’s deck.

A spokesperson for the Hudson River Park Trust, which oversees Pier 66, said the fireboat is secure and being assessed for damage.

Built in 1931, the Harvey assisted in several dramatic marine rescues, helping to put out a potentially catastrophic fire aboard the El Estero, a munitions ship docked in the New York Harbor during World War II.

It was retired in 1994, but was called back into service on the morning of 9/11 to help pick up survivors and to pump water onto the site.

For those looking to commune with nature during the celestial event, Shirley Chisholm State Park in Brooklyn is hosting a low-key — and free — viewing party on the banks of Jamaica Bay. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is hosting a gathering as well, inviting folks to watch the sky among the flowers. Alternatively, Wave Hill in the Bronx is throwing an eclipse party overlooking the Hudson River.
