The Postal Service, Death Cab For Cutie Extend Co-Headlining Tour 

In a recent announcement, The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie unveiled plans to extend their co-headlining tour throughout 2024. The tour is a continuous celebration of the 20th anniversary of Give Up and Transatlanticism.

Following the success of their previous collaborative venture, this extended series of performances is set to showcase complete renditions of The Postal Service’s album, Give Up , and Death Cab For Cutie’s Transatlanticism . Adding to the musical experience, Slow Pulp is set to provide support at every tour stop.

The new dates are set to kick off on April 23 at the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Atlanta. The tour will then weave its way through various locations including Charleston’s Credit One Stadium, Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center, and the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver before concluding on May 15 at the Moda Center in Portland.

An artist presale is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, December 6 with general on sale beginning Friday, December 8 via Ticketmaster. To score tickets to their tour, visit Ticket Club where members can receive a free membership with the code “TICKETNEWS.”

The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie are taking the stage together for a North American tour next year, celebrating the 20th anniversary of each of the band’s landmark albums.

Each band will return to their 2003 discography for the upcoming tour: The Postal Service’s platinum-certified “Give Up” and Death Cab’s fourth studio LP “Transatlanticism.” As the frontman and co-founder of both bands, singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard will take on double-duty throughout the North American jaunt, performing with both bands back-to-back for each show.

Their joint tour officially kicks off on Sept. 8, 2023 in Portland’s Cross Insurance Arena before the groups traverse through major venues such as New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Berkeley’s Greek Theatre, and Los Angeles’s Hollywood Bowl. The pre-sale goes live on Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. PT. Remaining tickets will be made available in the general onsale, released on Friday, Dec. 16.

The Postal Service are not the easiest act to catch live. Having stumbled upon and instantly fallen in love with their album Give Up in the early 2000s, I had to wait 10 years before they decided to go on tour. It's not so much that they broke up as a band - more that they were never really together.

Having started as a duo collaborating through the post (hence the name), their music doesn't translate to the stage as easily as some other bands, but they somehow manage to hit that sweet spot between electronic beats and raw vocal and instrumental performances.

While their recorded music is on the softer side of the spectrum, their catchy rhythms booming through big bassy speakers makes their live performances impossible not to dance to, adding a whole new dimension to their music. Many of their beautifully crafted songs have parts emphasising certain instruments, allowing each of the band members to come forward and have their moment, keeping the show dynamic and fresh throughout.

Solo Ben Gibbard Announced as Opener For Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service Tour

BREMERTON, Wash. — Ben Gibbard announced he will be performing solo as the opening act for the upcoming Death Cab for Cutie and Postal Service Tour celebrating 20 years of “Transatlantacism” and “Give Up,” sources who couldn’t get enough of him in their lives confirmed.

“After careful deliberation of who I’d like to bring out on tour with me, I finally landed on the difficult decision to choose myself,” said Gibbard while constructing a 50-song setlist for all performances. “I honestly couldn’t think of anyone more qualified or deserving than old Big Ben to open for me and then me again. Sure, I’ll be playing three sets a night with three different musical acts, but I’ll be giving the people what they want: Non-stop me. Modest Mouse actually volunteered to open for us, but I had to turn them down because I am simply not in that band. After all, we’ve got a tour brand to uphold.”

Fans of Gibbard’s work couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming performances.

“As someone who religiously listens to everything this man has put out, this is actually my musical dream blunt rotation,” said Jennifer Harrington. “I just can’t wait to hear the rich wistful melodies of solo Ben Gibbard live followed by the rich wistful melodies of The Postal Service followed by the rich wistful melodies of Death Cab for Cutie. There’s just nothing like band member consistency throughout an entire show. You could say I’m overjoyed to see three Bens for the price of one.”

Experts seemed quite impressed with the announcement.

“In the industry, this is called a triple crown performance. Or, if you want to get into semantics, a hat trick show,” said music historian Juliette Cowhen. “This isn’t the first time this has happened either. Solo Jack White was once scheduled to open for the Raconteurs and the White Stripes. Unfortunately, that never came to fruition due to the length of time it would take for Jack White to ‘get into character’ between sets. They estimated a good 90 minutes between performances. Classic Jack. He’s what you call a method musician.”

In related news, Gibbard also announced that he would be manning the singular merch booth on all tour dates.
