Pop quiz, what's the pointy thing? The downtown skyline from an Argosy cruise.

Image: Ian G Dagnall / Alamy Stock Photo

Sometimes the in-laws from out of town need entertainment, and there’s no shame in joining a tourist excursion around Seattle. We gathered the most notable guided experiences and deep dives into Emerald City basics.

Two if by Sea

Around longer than the Space Needle—if you count the company’s roots as a water taxi operator—the harbor-roving Argosy cruises Boat Tour operation runs like clockwork to give tourists the perfect cityscape photo. Washington residents score a small discount on the $50-ish excursion, best spent on the Locks Cruise to ride the century-old boat elevator from the inside. The roundtrip Harbor Cruise is solid for guests who want to scurry back to the Great Wheel. Daily year-round

The Scoop on Lake Union

Mike Luis, captain of the M/V Fremont Avenue , motors around Lake Union offering a happy combination of local history and root beer floats in the Seattle Water Tours Ice Cream Cruise . His narrative surpasses the usual historic tales (he’s written a few books on Seattle and the Eastside) and ice cream bars help engage kids whether you’re on the scenic upper deck or the protected lower level. Few Seattle excursions have such broad appeal—families or kid-free, visitors or locals, dogs welcome. At $18, tickets are a great deal—provided you don’t blow your budget on for-purchase ice cream sandwiches. Sundays year-round; Saturdays in the summer

Culinary Confidential

Because the Eat Seattle Tours owner has French culinary training, she encourages the restaurant industry guides of her Chef Guided Food Tour of Pike Place Market to delve into the quirks of Northwest ingredients and share kitchen insights. The walking route through Pike Place Market ($54) mostly visits prepared food stalls for Costco sample–size bites, though when in season the group may stop for fresh cherries or strawberries.  Daily year-round

Something Strange in Your Neighborhood

Call it spooky with a side of paranormal science: Ross Allison of The Spooked in Seattle Tour claims his is the oldest ghost hunters group in the city, and he grew frustrated with hearing “made-up stories” on other ghost walks. He shares some of his evidence—videos, photos, electronic voice phenomena—on a rambling route ($20) through Pioneer Square. His company rents ghost-hunting kits for DIY pursuit. Hill of Beans

National company We-Venture specializes in hyperlocal tours, including the Seattle Coffee Culture Tour , an exploration of our city’s signature caffeinated beverage. Walks begin at the Jimi Hendrix statue; seasoned guides weave Capitol Hill’s high-spirited history into conversations about roasting beans or the difference between second- and third-wave coffee. Cafe stops exude local cred, like Ghost Note or Wunderground Cafe, where tour-goers can sip adaptogenic mushroom coffee (the better to prepare you for the tour’s final visit, Starbucks’ Reserve Roastery). Ticket prices ($59) include a coffee drink at each stop. Daily year-round

Killer Queen Anne

Unlike a ghost-and-ghouls romp, Private Eye Tours sticks to the facts for its Queen Anne True Crime Tour, apt for a company launched by a real private detective. While murder isn’t the sole subject—you’ve got your arsons, your burglaries—it’s a PG-13 van ride ($45) through an architecturally stunning neighborhood where few tourists linger. Guide Jake Jacobson takes pains to be respectful, both of past victims and the new owners of infamous houses. Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays or by appointment year-round

Hill Street Clues

With no more than four guests in her SUV, Lynn Curtis of Under the Radar shows off a neighborhood she lived in for 14 years in her Capitol Hill Tour ($119). From which street was born as the wagon road to the cemetery to the realities of the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest, she bridges history with frank talk about housing and urban planning. Her wider-spread Neighborhoods 101 tour is especially popular with new residents scouting out where to live. Tuesday–Sunday year-round

Dumplings in the District

Wing Luke Museum Food Tours ($56) at Seattle’s Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience draw from one of its biggest assets: All the great food in the surrounding Chinatown–International District blocks. Attendees visit a handful of nearby restaurants, with each stop essentially a sit-down family-style meal—usually with a cameo from the owner and some valuable cultural context. Tour themes change each season; these leisurely progressive dinners might plunge you into the intricacies of noodles, dumplings, rice dishes, or summertime’s “grilled things and chicken wings.” Fridays

Everybody’s Free

Reservations are recommended even if the ticket is gratis for the Seattle 101 Free Walking Tour , though guides accept walk-ups when possible. Starting between the totem poles of Victor Steinbrueck Park (or nearby during construction), the on-foot tour sticks to the Pike Place Market and Pioneer Square standbys. Looking for the catch? Free does mean free but since guides work for tips, failing to toss down cash earns questionable karma. Friday–Monday year-round

Under the Circumstances

The Underground Tour into old Pioneer Square basements and buried storefronts has earned almost as much infamy as the brothels-and-bandits tales (and bad jokes) that pepper the experience ($22). Newspaper columnist Bill Speidel always emphasized thrilling storytelling over well-sourced history when he launched the enterprise in the 1960s, but it survives on the ever-cool concept that Seattle built its downtown on top of its previous one. For balance, take guests to the fun and fact-based Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park visitor center right after. Daily year-round

Browse through these 7 top Seattle tours, identified by U.S. News using both expert opinions and traveler sentiment, to help you plan your ideal getaway.

Argosy Cruises – Harbor Cruise

Sail through Seattle's Elliott Bay with Argosy Cruises. The one-hour narrated boat tour takes passengers through Puget Sound, by the shipping port and offers city skyline views. The vessel sports a full-service bar with snacks and alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. Tour-goers report seeing lots of wildlife and fantastic views. They also enjoy their friendly and informative guides. Seating is first-come, first-served, and boarding begins 20 minutes ahead of departure time. Tickets start at $33 for adults and $20 for kids ages 4 to 12; children 3 and younger ride for free. Tours Northwest – Mt Rainier Tour

A trip to Mount Rainier is a must when visiting Seattle, but if you don't want to navigate to the peak yourself, consider this daytrip with Tours Northwest. You'll ride in an air-conditioned coach bus through incredible scenery en route to the mountain. At the park, you'll have the opportunity to hike as much or as little as you want to see waterfalls, meadows and old-growth forests. Tourgoers rave about their guides' knowledge of the park and its trails. They also relish the beautiful scenery and the frequent stops for photo-ops and exploration. Tours operate May through October. Each tour begins at 7:30 a.m. and lasts about 10 hours. Tickets for adults cost approximately $140 and tickets for children 7 to 12 cost approximately $120. Park fees are included, but you will need to pay for lunch. Tours Northwest also provides tours of Seattle and the Boeing facility.

Customized Tours – Olympic National Park Tour

Olympic National Park encompasses nearly 1 million acres and features a variety of ecosystems, including temperate rainforests, mountains and coastline. Customized Tours' daylong outing of the park aims to see each of these ecosystems. The tour begins with pickup from select Seattle hotels before hopping on a ferry ride across the Puget Sound to explore the park. Travelers agree that the park is incredible and the long day (about 12 hours) is worth it. They also advise wearing comfortable shoes; you'll be chauffeured in a bus to different locations, but you will still do a lot of walking. Tickets start at $170 for adults and $145 for children 11 and younger. Pickups start around 7:30 a.m. Tours run Monday, Wednesday and Friday from April through October. The company operates several other Seattle outings, including city tours and trips to Mount Rainier.

Beneath the Streets

Learn about the formation of Seattle and its original neighborhood, Pioneer Square, on this one-hour Beneath the Streets tour. Expert guides will lead you through underground passageways dating back to the 1890s, sharing historic information, along with stories of the Klondike Gold Rush, the city's architecture and the Coast Salish tribes who originally inhabited the area. Tourgoers describe the experience as full of interesting information and praise their well-educated guides. Tours, limited to 16 people, leave every 30 minutes between 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Though tours run daily, there is limited availability on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tickets cost approximately $25 for adults, $22 for college students and teens, and $15 for children ages 7 to 12. The company also operates an adults-only red-light district tour.

Eat Seattle – Food Tour of Pike Place

Taste your way through Seattle's famous Pike Place Market with a chef leading the way. Guides will share insider tips about where area chefs shop and explain the history of the market. Along the way, you could sample chowder, chocolate, pasta and more. Tour-takers say the guides are wonderful and the food is delicious. Many commented the samples are enough for lunch. The two-hour tours depart several times daily, typically between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets cost about $50 per person. Abbreviated, hourlong tours of the market are also available on select days.

Puget Sound Express – Seattle Whale Watching Tours

A variety of wildlife species call Seattle home, including several different types of whales. The Puget Sound Express offers a half-day whale-watching tour that gives visitors the opportunity to see orcas, humpback whales, otters, sea lions and more in the San Juan Islands. The company's speedy boats reach the islands in about an hour and feature indoor seating with large windows, outdoor viewing decks and a cafe serving fresh blueberry buckle. Plus, the Puget Sound Express guarantees you will see whales on your tour or your next trip is free. Tourgoers rave about the courteous crew and all the wildlife spotted thanks to the crew's attentiveness and knowledge of the area. Tours last four to five hours and leave daily from April through October. Exact departure times vary by season. Ticket prices start at $135 for adults and $95 for children 2 to 10, while children younger than 2 ride for free. The company also offers bird-watching and multi-day wildlife cruises.

Shutter Tours – Snoqualmie Falls and Seattle City Tour

Travelers enjoy this comprehensive tour because it offers a balance of gorgeous natural scenery and a great overview of the city's top sights. During the four-hour excursion, tourgoers start with a lesson in Seattle history, exploring the Pioneer Square area – the hub of the Klondike Gold Rush. Travelers are then transported to the beautiful Snoqualmie Falls in the Cascade foothills. Next, the tour continues to the famous Fremont Troll and then the Ballard Locks. Finally, it concludes at Kerry Park , a popular spot to snap photos of the Seattle skyline. Reviewers recommend booking this tour your first day in Seattle to get your bearings. Tickets cost approximately $70 for adults, $65 for seniors, and $55 for children 12 and younger. Tours run daily at 10 a.m. Shutter Tours also operates a tour to Mount Rainier and a Tulip Festival tour every April.

The itinerary, hikes and activities were great. The best feature of the hotel in Seattle was location. The quality of the hotels went from bad to worst. On the one we stayed the last two nights there was not even soap, we had to go and ask for it and almost beg for shampoo, they also just gave us one key for a double room, There was always a sense of improvisation and lack of communication. The guide tried his best to save the day, every day. We would arrive tired and hungry and most places were closed already. The guide on the last day went out of his way to deliver participants to their destinations, not just the airport but the train station, etc. that was greatly appreciated, his energy, enthusiasm and driving skills made of this a Good trip. There is a lot of room for improvement.

Outstanding tour of the Western Canadian Rockies! Can’t say enough good things about this tour. From start to finish Bindlestiff Tours was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and shared in the excitement of our upcoming tour. The tour itself was outstanding. A small groups tour that is perfectly designed to showcase the highlights of the Canadian Rockies. Our guide was so much fun, giving a ton of interesting commentary and local stories making sure we had plenty of time to enjoy the parks. The scenery was amazing and the hotels of a very high quality. We really enjoyed our tour with Bindlestiff and will certainly be returning for more tours in the future!

This was our first ever coach tour. Would we like it? Was it our 'thing'? Well, it was excellent. We have no comparisons to make with other tours but Globus and the Pacific Coast tour lived up to our expectations. All aspects, the other travellers, the coach, the itinerary, the accommodation were good and our tour director, Craig, made it excellent. For us, 40 people together is still not ideal, but for some parts of the world and some itineraries coach tours work and, in our opinion, this was one that worked very well.

What people love about seattle tours.

Mike and Carly Jo were amazing guides. I left this trip feeling connected with everyone. I gained so much knowledge and look back on the experience with so much gratitude. Knowing the projects we worked have a long term positive impact make me feel rewarded, and I learned skills that I can take with me anywhere I go. GIVE is an amazing way to travel, make friends, and be part of positive change.
This was a good trip with beautiful views and awesome hiking. BUT, there is a lot of driving. A lot of driving. New hotel every night except one two night stay. Many hours everyday driving in a full van, not all that comfortable. We often left around 7:30 and did not arrive to our new location until 5-6 p.m. While these days included short stops and hikes it was still 5 to 6 hours of driving most days.

Our Honeymoon Trip

"Cory, our tour guide greeted us directly in our hotel lobby. We were the last of the tour to be picked up, so we were immediately on our way to the first winery! The tour does not include wine tasting fees, but there was a free tour that included some wine tasting (Chateau Ste. Michelle). We even had time to enjoy a glass of wine before the tour. Our tour guide took care of getting us our boxed lunches as we were at the winery! The next stop was Goose Ridge Winery, where we enjoyed lunch and another wine tasting. My husband saw that they also had cider tastings so he was able to taste cider! Our tour guide was very informative and personable, making the trip enjoyable. We had ample time to spend at each location. The falls were magnificent and it was convenient to be dropped off right at the falls! The last stop at the chocolate factory was a sweet end to our tour! We would highly recommend this tour!"

4-hour seattle city tour

We enjoyed our tour and our tour guide was very good about taking us to all the popular places as well as some side stops. (ex: Theo's chocolates, fisherman's landing, Kerry Park, Klondike National Park/museum). She was very knowledgeable and very informative about Seattle. We would recommend this tour and it is very reasonably priced.

Great Time!

Cory, the guide made this trip so much fun! I would highly recommend this trip it was the best part of my Seattle visit! (January 2020)

Most beautiful place in Washington State with super friendly and knowledgeable guide

Wow, what a day! I wasn’t sure what to expect with it being pretty cold and wet, but this tour was a blast. It had everything, beautiful lakes, waterfalls, beautiful lush forest, ocean beaches, hiking (be prepared to do a fair bit, at least 5 or 6 miles). Cresent Lake is breathtaking and Tongue point was a beautiful surprise at low tide with all the tide pools. Joel did an excellent job of showing us all the diverse landscape and some super cool hidden gems. There were even a few things we missed due to road closures so I will definitely be going back on another tour when the weather warms up. This place is truly spectacular and I couldn’t have asked for a more friendlier and knowledgeable guide.

Seattle Architecture Foundation Logo

For more than 30 years, SAF’s architecture walking tours have served to entertain and educate locals and visitors about Seattle’s rich architectural and cultural history.

All of our guided tours are led by talented volunteers who serve as ambassadors for our beautiful metropolis. Our expert guides are excited to share their knowledge with the public to advance a better understanding of architecture, landscapes, and urban design practices that shape our city.   All tour ticket purchases directly support our educational programs for youth and families.

Tours are approximately two hours in length and run Saturdays from 10:00am – 12:00pm. See our FAQs page for more information.

Please note:  A minimum of three people must be registered for tours to take place. Tours with fewer than three registered attendees on the Thursday before the tour will be cancelled.

See what people are saying

The Foundation runs really great walking tours where they cover various neighborhoods/areas around Seattle. You needn't have a background in architecture to enjoy it (though it can help), but really it's a great way to see some unexpected details around town with a great mix of people and led by a knowledgeable guide.

The Greatest Hits tour of Downtown Seattle offers a really comprehensive history of Seattle's rapid development from a pioneer town, to an earnest fledgling city, to a nascent metropolitan area. The neighborhood tours offer fantastic conversation-starters about the residents of the city, and how each place got its character.

The stone to steel tour by Nancy Day is a fabulous way to get to know Seattle architecture. It’s apparent from the gut-go that Nancy knows her stuff. The two hours passed quickly. The pace was perfect not too fast but not slow. I would highly recommend this tour.

Great introduction to houses and history in the Harvard Belmont neighborhood. So much to see and learn about pockets of the city that I have been in many times. Now I will know so much more about what I am seeing as I pass by. Very enriching. Thank you!

Nancy is an incredible guide — her knowledge, insight, and enthusiasm made the tour fantastic. It was helpful how she placed the architectural information into the context of other historical events — also really enjoyed the unique connection with fashion. Thanks Nancy!

Tour design, tour leader were excellent and the contributions of fellow tour members were very beneficial

Can't wait do another tour

I absolutely loved Nancy - she was a wonderful guide. I am sold on SAF tours and will definitely be signing up for more from you!

Space Lab Design

Presented with Armada Design & Build

This home started out as a humble lake cottage, built in the 1950’s on the east side of Lake Sammamish. It was then added to in the 90’s and has been remodeled few times thereafter.

The big gestures of 2020 remodel is an addition of a new prominent entry and breakfast nook, as well as a vertical extension of the dining room with mostly glazed walls. The garage façade was articulated with a slight projection of the upper story bedroom, and an L-shaped awning over the garage doors, as well as a new composition of windows.

Major improvements to the interior’s flow included, the removal of centrally located posts in the living room and kitchen, reconfiguration of the living room focal wall and enhanced flow into the kitchen. The addition of a mudroom helped mitigate the transition from the garage to the main living space as well as create additional storage. The kitchen was significantly improved with a raised ceiling, new functional cabinetry, an extension of the daylit breakfast nook, and a beautiful waterfall slab kitchen island!

Upstairs, the Western part of the house reconfigured to include an expanded rec room – or “Hawk’s Nest”. Outfitted with state-of-the-art audio and video equipment, plush leather recliners and a generous kitchenette.

The interior finishes and elements are inspired by Scandinavian design aesthetic. New white oak engineered floors complement gloss white and matte light oak cabinetry, with a concrete-look quartz and tile hard surfaces. Light fixtures, white and seemingly understated, bring a subtle dynamic element to the spaces generously illuminated by natural light.

In addition, an outdoor kitchen was added in 2022 with a shade structure that compliments the house.

Workshop AD

Situated on the east edge of the Capitol Hill neighborhood, the project site is an original lot of record that was subdivided from a larger lot that included the neighboring home. The resulting lot, at 3,060 square feet, was subject to additional land use constraints such as an eighteen foot height limit and restrictions on structure depth. These limitations are further compounded by taller homes to the south and west, a major arterial to the east, and topographic drop across the site. With few opportunities for the home to orient spaces outward, the design turns inward and upward.

The home, designed for an avid sailor, seeks to be compact and efficient like a well-crafted sailboat. It is organized around the idea of a “light box.” This is expressed by a clerestory and light well that expand the spatial volume, engage the sky, and bring landscape into the center of the home. As one light box pushes up the other pushes down to create a dynamic exchange of interior and exterior environments that fill the primary living spaces with daylight and intimacy. Through special opportunities in the zoning code, the clerestory breaks the boundaries of the reduced height limit to introduce spatial variation.

While the upper level is configured for daylight and social interaction, the lower level office, guest room, and covered outdoor kitchen engage the private garden. This exterior space is excavated into the site and enclosed by a fence and landscaped edge that buffers from the road to the east.

Even though the home is small in scale, it seeks to exert a presence on the corner site. It claims its territory with a low concrete wall and fence. The siding is ebony stained board on board cedar which vary in spacing and width to create a robust and textured façade for the muted light of the Pacific Northwest. This cladding is used in the landscaped light box to provide a cohesive return of the home’s exterior to its interior.

A note from the architect: Designed for an avid sailor, Light Box seeks to be compact and efficient like a well-crafted sailboat. This is expressed by a clerestory and light well that expand the spatial volume, engage the sky, and bring landscape into the center of the home.

Axiom Design Build

Inspired by the views of Seattle’s Elliott Bay, Architect John Cashman and Creative Director/Designer Heather Cashman envisioned an industrial modern home with an ode to Seattle’s shipping and industrial history. The partners, who designed the home for their own family of four, were also inspired by places they love to travel like Amsterdam, Spain, France, and Portugal. As artists and creatives, they wanted their home aesthetic to inspire creativity, exude cheerfulness and to display a vast collection of art and photography.

The Cashman’s required tons of natural light to counter the dark winters in the Pacific Northwest, covered outdoor space to optimize the temperate climate, and an open floor plan for entertaining friends and family. The upper floor is wrapped in zinc and cantilevers over the main floor’s outdoor space which gives the exterior a stacked shipping container feel. The windows on the main floor spread from floor to ceiling, with giant sliders allowing maximum view and connection to the outside.

MN Custom Homes

This mid-century modern inspired home is located on a corner lot, allowing an abundance of natural light to flood through the extra-large windows. The home was positioned on the property to specifically take advantage of the outdoor views, allowing the outer and inner elements to combine. The home is layered with warm tones, taking their influence from nature, allowing the interior to promote a calm and nurturing environment.

The distinct floorplan of the home promotes a mindful space. It features a large open concept kitchen, great room and dining room that emphasizes the ease of flow from each area to the next. Having functional, purposeful rooms increases the ease of everyday living. The primary suite, located on the main floor, reflects a feeling of relaxation and peace. The utilitarian walk-in pantry complete with sink and beverage fridge, has easy access to the garage, and is a great addition to any social gathering giving hosts a space to prep meals, store dishes and keep extra beverages chilled.

This home combines ideas of practicality and serene interior design, with its unique layout, warm color palette and exceptional use of materials.

Lochwood-Lozier Custom Homes

Nestled in the heart of Clyde Hill, this architectural masterpiece combines sleek design with luxurious features, creating an oasis of elegance and comfort. Designed and built by Lochwood-Lozier, this home exudes sophistication and offers a truly unique living experience.

As you approach the property, you’ll be greeted by a meticulously landscaped front yard, with a charming pathway leading to the grand entrance. The exterior features a combination of cedar, steel, and natural stone, showcasing the home’s modern aesthetic.

Inside, the home boasts multiple entertainment spaces, including covered decks on all three levels. For those seeking relaxation, the spa-like master suite awaits on the upper level, complete with a luxurious ensuite bathroom featuring a soaking tub, a walk-in rain shower, and dual vanities. Additional bedrooms and guest suites offer ample space for family and friends.

The backyard is an entertainer’s dream, featuring a large patio area with a built-in barbecue, a sport court, mini golf, and lush greenery, creating a private retreat for outdoor gatherings and relaxation.

Whether you appreciate architectural brilliance or simply crave a stylish and comfortable living space, this home is sure to captivate your imagination and inspire your sense of refined living.

Urban design, Inc.

The concept for this home was designed with comfort and style in mind. At the first glance, the clean and sophisticated contrasting white and black materials on the exterior of the home will catch your eye. The slanted shed roofs create unique angles which complement the flat roofs and give a fresh twist on the elevations. Walking in through the front double doors is a dramatic experience due to the tall ceilings in the foyer and big boxy window above the door. There are many windows surrounding the exterior of this modern northwest house plan to ensure a light and airy interior during all seasons of the year.

The spacious 3-car garage can be found on the lower level, along with a bedroom, which is ideal for guests or can be used as a home office. Going into the kitchen you will see plentiful counter space and cabinets, optimal for large kitchen appliances. You will also find a sizable prep island in the center with an eating bar. Enjoy the convenient open floor concept which allows you to move freely between the main living areas.

Upstairs, discover 4 bedrooms, each having their own full bathroom and a favorable amount of closet space. The largest bedroom is reserved for the homeowner and includes a 5-fixture bathroom and a grand walk-in closet. On this floor you will also find a laundry with a generous amount of space for a washer and dryer, sink, and cabinets for storage.

The whole family will enjoy the large recreation room on the 3rd floor, as well as the sizable wrap-around rooftop deck with plenty of space to entertain. It is a perfect place for family and friends to enjoy great territorial views of the Pacific Northwest. With double sliding doors on either side of the rooftop, you will have easy accessibility to the kitchenette and full bathroom. There is an additional media/ bonus room with a walk-in closet for storage on the level as well. The cherry on top to this already perfect plan is the elevator that goes between all 3 stories of the home for optimal comfort and luxury.

Fall 2023 author events to catch in the Seattle area

Fall brings a flurry of prominent authors to town; here’s a selection of events sure to inspire some good reading.

James McBride

“Deacon King Kong,” one of my favorite books of 2020, is a hard act to follow, but McBride (who won the National Book Award in 2013 for “The Good Lord Bird”) is back with a novel that sounds just as wonderfully populated and compassionate as his last: “The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store,” set in a small Pennsylvania town a century ago.

John Okada Centennial Celebration

In honor of the birth of the author of “ No-No Boy ” on Sept. 23, 1923, Seattle Public Library is presenting several events this fall. This first one will feature Okada biographer Frank Abe presenting previously unseen images and stories from Okada’s life, and novelist/UW professor Shawn Wong discussing the rediscovery of “No-No Boy” and Okada’s unfinished second novel. It’ll be moderated by former longtime Elliott Bay Book Co. author events coordinator Karen Maeda Allman.

Martin Baron

You may remember Baron from Liev Schreiber’s portrayal of him in the 2015 Oscar-winning movie “Spotlight”; Baron was editor of The Boston Globe when the paper broke a massive investigation about sexual abuse by Catholic clergy. He’s here to speak about his new book, whose title speaks for itself: “Collision of Power: Trump, Bezos, and The Washington Post.”

Barbara Kingsolver

Kingsolver, author of multiple acclaimed novels including “The Bean Trees” and “Unsheltered,” was the co-winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her latest novel, “Demon Copperhead,” a recasting of Charles Dickens’ “David Copperfield” told from the perspective of a boy growing up in southern Appalachia.

Previously scheduled for September and moved to a larger venue in October due to overwhelming interest, this event features Tuininga talking about his graphic novel “We Are Not Strangers”; set in Seattle’s Central District during World War II, it tells Tuininga’s family’s experiences of Japanese and Jewish Americans living side by side. UW professor of Sephardic studies Devin E. Naar and Densho founder Tom Ikeda will join Tuininga in conversation.

Imagine Dragons’ sixth studio album LOOM represents the pinnacle of their artistic journey of self-discovery and marks the best body of work they’ve ever made. LOOM , produced entirely by Imagine Dragons and their longtime collaborators Mattman and Robin, finds the perfect balance between the classic sounds that have made them superstars and the freshness that brought them joy in the studio. Featuring 9 brand new tracks including hit single “Eyes Closed”, LOOM signifies new beginnings on the horizon – the excitement for a new day, moments yet to come.

Last year, the members of Imagine Dragons found themselves with a rare and well-deserved break from the road—perhaps their longest in many years. So, they made the most of it by devoting that time to family and friends. Catalyzed by this respite with a refreshed perspective, the band rallied together in the studio and mined the same well of inspiration that fed their most beloved material. The musicians reflected on the past in order to catapult into a future where stylistic boundaries have disappeared entirely and anything is possible creatively. This journey has brought them to their most dynamic and definitive body of work to date, LOOM .

To herald LOOM , the band recently shared their soaring new anthem entitled “Eyes Closed.” Check out the video HERE . The track illuminates their penchant for boundary-breaking. Stretching the limits of the soundscape almost to the breaking point, they harness a burst of energy with a rafter-reaching refrain primed to soar on the upcoming summer tour.

It’s the year of the Dragons …

ABOUT IMAGINE DRAGONS:

Imagine Dragons continue to redefine rock in the 21 st century. Filling stadiums, crafting cloud-rattling anthems, and breaking records at every turn, diamond-certified GRAMMY® Award-winning Las Vegas quartet Imagine Dragons occupy rarified air as one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Tallying cumulative sales of 74 million album equivalents, 65 million digital songs, and over 160 billion streams, they stand out as “the only band in history to earn four RIAA Diamond singles , ” namely “Radioactive” (16x-platinum), “Believer” (13x-platinum), “Thunder” (12x-platinum) and “Demons” (11x-platinum). Since emerging in 2009, they’ve scored five consecutive Top 10 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 with Night Visions [2012] (7x-platinum) (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope), Smoke+Mirrors [2015] (platinum) (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope), Evolve [2017] (triple-platinum) (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope), Origins [2018] (platinum)(KIDinaKORNER/Interscope), and Mercury – Act 1 [2021]( KIDinaKORNER/Interscope). With the release of Mercury – Act 2 (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope) in 2022, they completed their first double-album opus produced by the legendary Rick Rubin. The hit single “Bones,” featured on Mercury Act 2, went to number one at Alternative Radio and remains in the Global Top 50 on Spotify. The band’s hit collaboration with East Atlanta-based rapper J.I.D, “Enemy,” has racked up billions of global streams and landed at #6 on the IFPI Global Singles Chart for 2022. Dominating radio, they remain one of only four bands to ever achieve consecutive Top 5 singles at Alternative radio, and the only band to repeat this feat. Most recently, Imagine Dragons made history on Spotify, as “Bad Liar” became their 10th song to surpass 1 billion streams. The band now holds the crown for the group with most billion-plus streamed songs, becoming the first in the platform’s history to have ten songs reach this milestone. Meanwhile, Imagine Dragons’ music videos for hits “Thunder” and “Believer” have garnered an astounding 2 billion YouTube views, while videos for “Radioactive” and “Demons” have surpassed over 1 billion views.  They’ve collaborated with everyone from Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, and Wiz Khalifa to Avicii and film composer Hans Zimmer. Giving back, they’ve raised millions for various causes, including their pediatric cancer charity the Tyler Robinson Foundation, and frontman Dan Reynolds’ LOVELOUD Foundation and festival in support of LGBTQ+ youth. In 2022, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky named them ambassadors for UNITED 24, which benefits humanitarian aid in Ukraine. Imagine Dragons earned an impressive four nominations for the 2022 American Music Awards including “Favorite Pop Duo or Group,” “Favorite Rock Artist,” “Favorite Rock Album” and “Favorite Rock Song.” The band was also nominated for “Group of 2022” for the 2022 People’s Choice Awards. Most recently, they received an MTV VMA nomination for “Video For Good” for their acclaimed “Crushed” music video.
