Today, acclaimed rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers announced their Unlimited Love Tour will extend into 2024 across the U.S. Following massive 2022 and 2023 tour runs, the band shows no sign of slowing down as they announce their upcoming North America tour slated for next year. Produced by Live Nation, the 2024 run kicks off on Tuesday, May 28 in Ridgefield, WA at RV Inn Style Resorts Amphitheater, with stops in Quincy, WA, Salt Lake City, UT, Virginia Beach, VA and more before wrapping up on Tuesday, July 30 at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. Special Guests Kid Cudi, Ice Cube, Ken Carson, Otoboke Beaver, Seun Kuti & Egypt80, Wand and IRONTOM will be joining the band on select dates throughout the tour.

After wrapping up dates in North America and Europe last year, the band continued their global trek into 2023 with several dates across New Zealand and Australia in January, followed by another run of shows throughout North America, Europe, the UK, Singapore and Japan earlier this year. Most recently, Red Hot Chili Peppers concluded their sold-out Latin America leg of their 2023 tour with two shows in Buenos Aires.

As a result of the two album releases last year going #1, Red Hot Chili Peppers notably stand out as the first rock band in 17 years to achieve the feat. Moreover, Return of the Dream Canteen bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart —just like its predecessor Unlimited Love did in April 2022. Both albums were produced by longtime collaborator and creative confidant, Rick Rubin. Plus, it reached #1 in numerous countries around the globe.

Last year, Red Hot Chili Peppers took home the prestigious Global Icon Award and delivered a show stopping performance at the MTV VMAs. Their No. 1 single “Black Summer” also won the award for Best Rock Video. In addition, “Black Summer” scored a Grammy nomination for “Best Rock Song” and the band garnered a MTV Europe Music Award nomination for Best Rock and earned three American Music Awards nominations for “Favorite Rock Artist,” “Favorite Rock Album” for Unlimited Love and “Favorite Rock Single” for “Black Summer.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Motley Crue among the 10 best paid artists of 2021

Bruce Springsteen was 2021’s highest-paid musician, with Motley Crue and Red Hot Chili Peppers among the top 10

Chili Crue

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mötley Crüe were among the 10 highest-paid artists of 2021, according to a new report by former Forbes  editor Zack O’Malley Greenburg, published by Rolling Stone.com .

While the on-going pandemic kept both of the Los Angeles-based veteran rock acts off the road in 2021, the Chili Peppers and the Crüe secured their positions in the top 10, at number 6 and number 8, respectively, by selling the rights to their catalogues. The Chili Peppers banked a reported $140 million from the sale of their songs to Hipgnosis, while the Crue are believed to have trousered around $90 million (not $150 million as initially reported) by flogging their songs to BMG.

The profits made by both acts, however, were dwarfed by the earnings of the number one artist on the list, Bruce Springsteen , who is estimated to have earned $590 million in 2021, with $550 million of that coming total coming from the December sale of his catalogue to Sony .

The only female artist included in the top 10 in the report is Taylor Swift, who earned a reputed $80 million in 2021.

Rolling Stone notes: “ The list measures pretax income for calendar year 2021 before deducting fees for agents, managers, lawyers, living expenses, etc. Estimates are generated by scouring public documents and interviewing individuals with direct knowledge of major deals.”

The Chili Peppers and Mötley Crüe aim to return to the road in 2022. The Chili Peppers are scheduled to begin a global stadium tour in Seville, Spain on June 4, while the Crüe hope to kick off their long-delayed co-headlining tour of US stadiums with Def Leppard on June 16, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Red Hot Chili Peppers tour setlist: The songs they played at Innings Festival concert

Red Hot Chili Peppers brought opening day of Innings Festival to a crowd-pleasing finish at Tempe Beach Park with a suitably funky performance of “Give It Away,” the lead single that fired the opening shot of the mainstream invasion they staged with the seven-times-platinum triumph of “Blood Sugar Sex Magik.”

It was one of several songs they played in Friday’s set that topped the charts at alternative radio, from “Soul to Squeeze” and “Scar Tissue” to “Californication,” “By the Way,” “Can’t Stop” and “Snow ((Hey Oh)).”

And that still left plenty of time for lengthy instrumental jams and a handful of highlights from the pair of albums they released in 2022, “Unlimited Love” and “Return of the Dream Canteen.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers Reveal Dates, Openers For 2022 Global Stadium Tour

Todd the Squirrel (Flea) and Johnson Hammerswaddle (Anthony Kiedis) were back at it on Thursday morning (Oct. 7) with the latest fake news report about the Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘ 2022 global stadium tour. Only this time the funk-loving pranksters in phony mustaches and bad wigs actually had dates to share for the massive outing that is slated to kick off on June 4 in Seville, Spain at the Estadio La Cartuja De Sevilla.

The 32-city outing marks the second return of beloved guitarist John Frusciante and the Chili Peppers’ first U.S. stadium tour, on which they’ll play a selection of their most beloved hits as well as songs from their as-yet-untitled new album, according to a release announcing the dates.

The road trip will feature support from a wide range of special guests, including The Strokes, A$AP Rocky, Beck, Haim, St. Vincent, Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals, Thundercat and King Princess, with U.S. dates kicking off on July 23 with a gig at Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Make It Look Easy at US Tour Kickoff in Denver: Review

The fathers of funk rock are back on the road with guitarist John Frusciante

Red Hot Chili Peppers Make It Look Easy at US Tour Kickoff in Denver: Review

Not many high school bands last 39 years. Even fewer make the transition from punk underground to venerated rock establishment, while continuing to jump around like teenagers with functional and highly lubricated knee joints just a few months shy of 60 years old.

But Red Hot Chili Peppers are still doing it, and they’re making it look easy. They are the Rolling Stones of Generation X. And they are very much here to stay.

Gather ‘round, children; way back in the ‘80s and early ‘90s, there was a burgeoning new genre of popular music called “Alternative.” Red Hot Chili Peppers, which formed in 1983 in Los Angeles with Anthony Kiedis on vocals, Flea (Michael Bazary) on bass, Hillel Slovak on guitar, and Jack Irons on drums, was one of the first American bands to really dominate the genre, paving the way for the Seattle Grunge explosion in 1991. (When Slovak died of a drug overdose in 1988, John Frusciante joined the band, and, shortly after, Irons left and was replaced by Will Ferrell doppelganger Chad Smith.) Frusciante’s subsequent departure(s) and return(s) over the years have been well documented.

Fast-forward to July 2022, when the Chilis (including Frusciante) are back on the road to celebrate their recent album, Unlimited Love . The band’s North American stadium tour (get tickets here ) officially kicked off at the Empower Field At Mile High in Denver on Saturday night (July 23rd), and the evening also brought yet another album announcement; the Chilis’ 13th studio album, Return of the Dream Canteen , is slated for October 14th, as the excited crowd learned last night.

After opening sets by funk/electronica artist Thundercat and rock trio HAIM, a threatening blanket of clouds overhead burst into rain, drenching the 70,000-capacity open-air arena. The crowd was mostly comprised of Generation X fans in vintage RHCP merch, many with teenage children in tow. Elder Millennials were also in attendance, with their slightly fresher merch. It was a silent battle between Gen X, who were there to hear the hits from albums such as 1989’s Mother’s Milk and 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik , and Millennials, who were likely showing up for 2002’s By the Way and the smash 2006 release Stadium Arcadium .

Red Hot Chili Peppers Announce 2023 North America Tour With Six Different Openers

Red Hot Chili Peppers had an outstanding 2022 releasing a pair of studio albums and they'll carry over that momentum to 2023, announcing a new batch of shows in both North America and the U.K. and Europe.

The group just added 23 more shows to their touring schedule, starting this spring with a March 29 performance in Vancouver and concluding May 25 in Houston. After that, they'll cross the pond for shows in June and July in Europe and the U.K.

In addition, it should be noted that a wide array of acts will be joining Red Hot Chili Peppers on the newly announced shows, with The Strokes , Iggy Pop , The Roots , The Mars Volta , St. Vincent , City and Colour, Thundercat and King Princess all appearing on select bills throughout the North American and U.K. and European run. It should also be noted that one of the shows in Glasgow that was scheduled for this past summer will now take place on July 23 at Hampden Park Stadium. Existing tickets will remain valid for the new date.

As for the newly announced shows, tickets will go on sale starting this Friday (Dec. 9) at 10AM local time via the Red Hot Chili Peppers website .

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be supporting their two new albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen , both of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 earlier this year.

Red Hot Chili Peppers concert review: Veteran rockers bring their California love to sold-out Pittsburgh show

Mike Palm

The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ love of California cannot be underestimated — with some Internet estimates putting a reference to the Golden State in about 20% of their songs.

That was on full display Tuesday night in a sold-out show at the Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, where the California funk-rock legends visited as a part of their Unlimited Love tour.

Drummer Chad Smith has the Dodgers’ giant “LA” logo on his bass drum and appeared to be wearing a backwards Dodgers hat. And bassist Flea brought out a purple bass guitar with a huge Lakers logo late in the show.

And would their show be complete if “Dani California” or “Californication” weren’t played?

Yet, after an intro jam among Smith, Flea and guitarist John Frusciante, the Chili Peppers started with “Around the World,” which includes singer Anthony Kiedis’ shoutout to the Keystone State: “Born in the north and sworn to entertain ya, ‘cause I’m down for the state of Pennsylvania.”

With a massive digital screen full of psychedelic, lava lamp-esque visuals and flashing strobe lights behind them, the Chili Peppers played an energetic set not often seen among the sexagenarian set. (Kiedis and Flea are 61 and Smith is 62, while Frusciante checks in at only 54.)

Kiedis, wearing a medical boot on his left foot and a wrap on his right knee, still danced in circles around the stage. As Flea crossed the stage at the start of the night, he did a handstand walk with his loose yoga skirt falling down over his head. And Smith was pounding the drums all night, tossing beat-up sticks into the crowd on at least two occasions. And Flea, who gave Pittsburgh props for supplying Andy Warhol to the world, and Kiedis were both shirtless within 30 minutes — how often is that seen in this age group of bands?

. @ChiliPeppers at @Pav_StarLake pic.twitter.com/ko9TZ1zLsp — Mike Palm (@MikePalmMedia) July 3, 2024

Flea’s bass lines were front and center, definitely more prominent than most bands, but that’s part of the band’s appeal. With Flea and Smith locked into a groove, Frusciante was able to dive into blazing solos on songs like “Black Summer” and “Eddie,” their tribute to the late guitarist Eddie Van Halen. At times, the sound was a little muddy, making it hard to make out Kiedis’ vocals, which seemed fine otherwise.

Highlights included “Soul to Squeeze,” which started mellow, built to a release and then settled back down, and a powerful “By the Way,” which ended the regular set. After a few minutes for an encore break, they returned for the somber “I Could Have Lied” before ending on a higher note with “Give It Away.”

For a band that’s been going strong for 42 years, they’ve accumulated quite a collection of hits. Unfortunately, a lot of them, including their biggest hit, “Under the Bridge,” didn’t make the setlist for Tuesday’s show. Other notable omissions included “Scar Tissue,” “Can’t Stop,” “Snow ((Hey Oh)),” “Suck My Kiss” and “Me and My Friends.”

Instead of those songs, among the replacements were 2022’s “Carry Me Home,” which was played for the first time this year, plus Frusciante’s brief solo cover of David Bowie’s “Kooks.”

Domi and JD Beck, an instrumental jazz duo with a French keyboardist and American drummer, acknowledged several times they were out of place opening the show.

“I know we’re not who you were expecting,” Beck said.

Other eclectic openers on this tour included rapper Ice Cube, Japanese all-female punk band Otoboke Beaver and rapper Ken Carson, while Kid Cudi and Irontom were originally slated to open here when the tour was announced.
