So are you planning to buy one such bike and disappear on the roads? we feel you! But please take the following things with you for a safe trip: Bike documents and driving license, a good helmet with proper riding gears, backpacks with all the ropes and knots, some snacks, a small bike repair kit, fluorescent tapes, flashlights, and most importantly insurance . And yes! Do not forget to get these things checked before starting the journey: Tires, Fuel, Wheel Alignment, Brakes, Chain/Belt, and Engine.

Why insurance is the most important thing to have before any bike trip:

Long drives can be fun but not without an insurance policy. Make sure you buy or renew your bike insurance policy before you start your journey. The bike insurance policy will save you from accidents, theft, fire, natural disasters, personal accidents, and third-party losses.

Other than this, a bike insurance policy can be useful in a bike trip because:

  • Roadside Assistance: Long trips may call for some unexpected challenges like bike breakdown. You cannot trust all motor garages to get your bike fixed as they may mislead you with the issues. Better is having insurance because then you can have assistance arranged by the insurer. They will make arrangements or guide you for a hassle-free repair.
  • Cashless Repair Facility: Only if you have insurance, you can get the benefit of the cashless repair at the network garages. You might not want to spend extravagantly when on a long trip. Hence, the cashless facility will be a benefit for you.
  • Quick claim process: When you have an online two-wheeler insurance policy, you can easily file the claim through your mobile phone. If you fall in the second category, we've prepared for you a list of the best bikes you can buy for long-distance travel in India. All of them will ensure that you get exactly the kind of reliability, power, and comfort that you need on long trips. That said, let's get going with the list.

Royal Enfield Himalayan

The Himalayan differs heavily from Royal Enfield's Modern Classic kind of approach towards design. It's got a half-duplex split cradle frame and comes with telescopic suspension at the front. The rear gets monoshock suspension and this combination provides comfort to the rider. The bike was designed specifically for touring and that explains why it has a luggage carrier on its rear and multiple mounts across its body.

KTM 390 Adventure

This bike has got adventure in its name itself. It gets an ultra-light yet incredibly stable trellis frame and even a removable trellis sub-frame for a pillion rider or luggage. And apart from a strong engine, it even gets a killer electronics package, which includes traction control, riding modes, Quickshifter+, and cornering ABS. All this stuff makes the KTM 390 Adventure an excellent ally for those who desire to go on long motorcycle journeys.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

This one's an absolute roadster. It is able to deliver 47 hp at 7,150 rpm and a peak torque of 52 Nm at 5,250 rpm. It's got a vintage design but the technologies it espouses are nothing but modern. You get dual-channel ABS with this motorbike, among other things. Another great part about the Interceptor 650 is that it can be customised using the company's app before you buy it.

Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise

fb8o00qg

The Avenger 220 Cruise is an ideal choice for those looking for a touring bike at a low price. It's got an iconic cruiser design and an easy riding stance with a low-slung seat. Single channel ABS with a front disc brake and a 220cc engine provides enough safety and power needed for long journeys across India.

BMW G 310 R

tr3mv028

More than anything, this bike is about the boasting rights of owning a BMW without emptying your bank account. But there's, of course, much more to it than that. It is the complete package that has everything you need from your motorcycle. This includes easy manoeuvrability, smooth handling, and sporty riding dynamics.

So, if you're planning a Ladakh adventure, a North Eastern chronicle, or a South Indian escapade, choose any of these five bikes and rest assured that your journey will be worth it.

Best Bikes for Long Rides in India 2023-24 – Price, Mileage, Specifications, Colours, Images

Best Bikes for Long Rides in India - AutoBreeds.com

Long highway rides are becoming a new norm among the riders. Now, even a new young rider wants to go on a long ride with friends and explore the unknown. This has led to motorcycle manufacturers to develop touring friendly bikes in a wide range of budget. There are many affordable bikes that are best for long rides with their price starting from a little over one lakh and goes over ten lakh for the premium customers. Here is the price list of best bikes which are good for long rides in India.

Table of Contents

Best Bikes for Long Rides Price List in India

Not all bikes are great for long rides as rider comfort, long range and windblast protection is not available on all bikes. However, the first priority on a bike for long rides must be the rider comfort, the riding posture should be either upright or slightly lean backward so as to keep riding for hours without the need of stopping and stretching your limbs.

Second priority should be the protection from wind blast. On the highways, you tend to ride at about 80-120 kmph for cruising and at these speeds wind blast will tire you a lot faster making you to stop for rest more frequently. If there is an aerodynamic windshield visor attached in the front, you will be saved from the tiring wind blast at higher speeds. This allows you to ride for hours effortlessly.

Apart from this, you need a practical riding range for the highways about 400 kilometres in a single tank in a bid to reduce the number of fuel stops. Many bikes also come with trip computer which displays distance to empty and other features, Bluetooth connectivity to get notifications and turn by turn GPS navigation etc. Some riders might want additional luggage carrying capacity of the bike for long tours. Fuel efficiency is also an important factor due to high fuel prices across the country.

Check out the best bikes for long rides in India that you can own in 2023-24.

Hero Xpulse 200 4V

Hero Xpulse 200 4V is the first proper long distance touring bike in India and is also the most affordable one at just Rs 1.36 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi. The 4-valve version of the Xpulse now generates more power and torque figures which ultimately deliver in the real-world performance. It gets a long windshield visor to protect you from high-speed windblast.

Hero Xpulse 200 4V

The Xpulse 200 4V gets a flat and long single piece seat which has enough room for the rider to move around while on the run. Also, the seat for the pillion also has ample space for the passenger for long distance touring. Hero has done a great job in the ergonomics department of the bike for the adventure lovers.

To tackle pits, rocks and the uneven terrain, the bike comes equipped with a large 21-inch front rim and 18-inch rear rim. The wheels are spoke units which are designed to absorb high impacts and get away with it. Had the bike equipped with alloy wheels, the usability and the risk of breakage would have increased exponentially on the off-road scenario.

The 199.6cc single cylinder, air and oil-cooled, engine helps in moving the bike. This motor now has programmed fuel injection system for fuelling and is compliant to BS6 emission norms. A maximum power of 18.8 bhp comes at 8500 rpm and peak twisting force is rated at 17.35 Nm peaking at 6500 rpm. There is a 5-speed gearbox which has short gears for higher torque output at the rear wheels.

Shorter gearing helps Xpulse 200 4V to tackle the off-road terrain with ease and always keeps the rider only a twist of the throttle away from instant torque in challenging situations. The foot pegs are right beneath the rider making it quite easier to ride the bike while standing up in terrain undulations.

Speaking about the mileage, the Hero Xpulse 200 is capable of returning a consistent fuel economy of over 35 kmpl on the highways and about 38 kmpl in the city. This is because of the presence of short gearing and on the highway; you will be riding the bike at around 80-100 kmph mark which is near to the bike’s top end. However, despite the low mileage, the 13-litre fuel tank capacity will easily provide you a range of about 480 km in a single tankful. The petrol price is high, so it is one of the best solutions for riders under a budget.

Coming on to the features department, the bike is blessed with a fully digital instrument panel with host of features including Bluetooth connectivity. You will get a speedometer, odometer, trip meters, fuel gauge and other tell-tale lights. Apart from this, the digital screen will display the notifications when you connect your smartphone with it. For easy to navigate in the regions unknown, there is turn by turn GPS navigation feature also available.

As a smart adventure tourer, the Xpulse 200 4V gets interesting colours, Trail Blue, Blitz Blue, Red Raid and White.

Choosing the Hero Xpulse 200 4V is not difficult at all, if you are into highway touring and off-road riding, you must consider Xpulse 200 as your first choice.

Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise

What about a cruiser. Yes, we are talking about long rides right, then it’s common for a cruiser to land in this list. Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise is the most affordable 200cc cruiser bike on sale in India. The bike has sufficient power to tackle the highways and has the ability to cruise all day long at 100 kmph.

Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise

Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise is a comfortable bike to ride as it offers laid back siting position and raise handlebars. There is a large windscreen visor to deal with the high-speed windblast and reduces the exhaustion a rider might feel without it. Any bike with wind blast protection and comfortable riding posture can become a long-distance tourer and Avenger 220 excels in both these departments.

Chrome packed shiny Cruiser comes in two colour options – Moon White and Auburn Black.

Avenger 220 Cruise derives its mobility from a single cylinder, air and oil-cooled, 220cc, fuel injected engine with 2-valve head. This motor can pump out a max power of 18.76 bhp at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 17.55 Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox with adequately tall 5 th gear for relaxed touring. A combination of air cooling and an oil cooler helps in keeping the engine temperature under control thereby providing a better engine reliability over time.

The ride quality of the Bajaj Avenger 220 is quite planted and comfortable. The high-speed stability is on par with the competitors because of 163 kg kerb weight and long wheelbase. The suspension is designed with precision and offers best of both worlds – Comfort and Stability. A pair of telescopic forks is present at the front and twin shock absorbers do the job at the rear end. This setup is comfortable on the bad patches of road and offers great stability at high speeds.

Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise can return a mileage of about 35 km per litre under normal riding conditions. In the cities, however, the mileage drops to about 30 kmpl. A fuel tank capacity of 13 litres will take the bike to more than 450 km in a single tankful which is a reasonable range for a bike.

On the dashboard, there is a fully digital instrument console offering all the basic information to the rider. The company should also have provided a trip computer with average fuel consumption and distance to empty feature which will come handy on the highways. Headlight is a basic halogen unit without any option for LED headlamps. Safety is made sure by single channel ABS helping 280 mm front disc brake to stop on time without any drama.

It is a great bike for cruising on the highways with utmost comfort and great tank range. With a seat height of 737 mm, rider of any height can ride the Avenger 220 Cruise. The Avenger is now an old motorcycle and thus, you can get a good deal in second hand bike market instead of buying a new bike.

Yamaha FZS 25

It is not necessary that all bikes have to be adventure tourer or cruise in shape and style to ride on the highways. Street bikes like Yamaha FZ25 is also a great option for long rides as it is pretty comfortable for the ride with upright riding posture and comfortable suspension system that can glide over any kind of bad section of roads on the highways.

Yamaha FZS 25

Suzuki Strom 650 XT is the newly launched adventure tourer bike which also focuses on off-roading. The bike gets a larger 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel with spokes. Spoke rims are better at handling large impacts that occurs during off-roading. For the comfort of the rider, the bike offers a large seat with ergonomics designed for long rides.

Suzuki Strom 650 XT

The handlebars are raised and positioned in a manner to provide excellent comfort while riding on and off the roads. The seats are stepped for the pillion rider which is also comfortable for long rides. Suzuki Strom 650 XT is a perfect bike for two riders to go on a long ride with maximum comfort.

The BS6 upgrade of the bike saw addition of few important bits such as taller windscreen, sump guard and knuckle guards. Two colour options are available on the Storm – Champion Yellow and Pearl Glacier White.

At the heart of the Suzuki Strom 650 XT is a V-twin engine with liquid-cooling, electronic fuel injection and 8-valves for breathing. It churns out 70 bhp at 8800 rpm and 62 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. A 6-speed gearbox deals with the power transfer duties and has well-laid out gear ratios for highway and off-road rides. The new bike gets a low-rpm assist technology which avoids engine stalling in city traffic.

The Strom 650 is capable of returning a fuel economy of about 20 km per litre and with a 20-litre fuel tank; you can easily get a range of nearly 400 km in a single tankful.

There is a semi-digital instrument panel which offers all the relevant information to the rider. For added convenience, the bike comes with a mobile charging socket and a 12 volts power outlet for assessor socket.

For bringing the bike to a halt, there are twin 310 mm disc brakes at the front with 260 mm disc brake at the rear. A dual channel ABS is present to keep the rider safe under hard braking.

Launched at a price tag of Rs 8.88 lakh ex-showroom, New Delhi, the Suzuki Strom 650 XT is for the serious tourers out there.

Triumph Tiger Sport 660

Triumph Tiger Sport 660 is the nest bike on this list. It is based on the Trident 660 which is a naked roadster with changes to make it more touring friendly. The bike carries a price tag of Rs 9.08 lakh ex-showroom New Delhi and is around Rs 2 lakh more expensive than the Trident. For the additional price you really get the worth as it has all the things that you need for long distance riding.

Triumph Tiger Sport 660

The Tiger Sport 660 is available in three colour options – Lucerne Blue & Sapphire Black, Korosi Red & Graphite and Graphite & Sapphire Black.

Coming to the design, the Tiger Sport 660 comes with Triumph’s signature design language used in the more premium Tiger series of bikes. There is a large front fairing with adjustable visor to rider protected from the high-speed wind blasts. The headlights are full LED units including the turn indicators and the tail-light. Seats are large and comfortable for both rider and the pillion that allows for longer duration on the saddle.

The engine on the Tiger Sport 660 is a 660cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, in-line triple-cylinder unit with 12-valve head. This high-revving unit churns out 80 bhp of max power at 10,250 rpm and 64 Nm of twisting force at 6250 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox via slip and assist clutch.

With all this power in hand, anyone can easily cruise at over 120 kmph all day long without bothering about anything. Performance-wise, the bike shoots from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 5 seconds and goes up to a top speed of around 180 kmph.

A large 17.2-litre petrol tank offers long riding range of around 380 km which is really good for touring machine. Average mileage that you can expect from the Tiger Sport 660 is around 22 kmpl.

Speaking about the instrumentation, the fully-digital unit is lifted from the Trident but with a different casing to make it look in-line with the fairing design. The meter console offers almost all the data that is required by the rider with multiple settings of traction control.

The suspension system of the bike has USD Forks at the front and Monoshock at the rear with pre-load settings. Overall suspension is higher than seen on the Trident which also increases the ground clearance for better rideability on unpaved roads. Speaking about the brakes, the bike is fitted with 310 mm twin-rotors at the front and single 255 mm rotor gripped by 4-piston and 1-piston callipers. A dual-channel ABS and traction control is offered for safer rides.

Hero XPulse 200 4V (Rs 1,32,350)

Hero MotoCorp updated its portfolio with the launch of the XPulse 200 4V which is currently sold alongside the 2V version of the motorcycle. This variant, which uses a four-valve setup, is aimed to deliver improved performance in the higher revs and feel more comfortable at highway speeds than its two-valve counterpart. The motorcycle also packs off-road-focussed hardware that comprises wire-spoke wheels, long travel suspension, and an engine bash plate. Other features include an LED headlight, LED taillight, and a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster. The mechanical specifications include a 199.6cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine. Linked to a five-speed gearbox, the motor makes 18.8bhp at 8,500rpm and 17.35Nm at 6,500rpm.

Honda CB200X (Rs 1,46,499)

Honda ’s adventure-style CB200X isn’t as off-road ready as the Hero XPulse 200 4V, but it packs a touring-focussed personality. This has been achieved through a semi-fairing design, a fly-screen, and upright ergonomics. Its feature list comprises full-LED lighting and a digital instrument cluster, sans the Bluetooth connectivity. The CB200X shares its motor with the Hornet 2.0. Linked to a five-speed gearbox, the 184.4cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 17bhp at 8,500rpm and 16.1Nm at 6,000rpm.

Suzuki V-Strom SX (Rs 2,11,600)

The Suzuki V-Strom SX is the latest participant in the affordable adventure-tourer segment of the Indian market. It uses the same engine and hardware as the Gixxer 250 . Thus, the V-Strom SX gets the same enjoyable character along with the traits that are associated with the adventure-tourer motorcycles. Thus, it gets comfortable ergonomics and better windblast protection than the naked roadster. The feature list is at par with the rivals and the V-Strom SX packs an LED headlight and a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster that brings access to call/message notifications and turn-by-turn navigation. The motorcycle is powered by a 249cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine that makes 26.1bhp at 9,300rpm and 22.2Nm of peak torque at 7,300rpm. The motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox.

Yezdi Adventure (Rs 2,09,900 – Rs 2,18,900)

This Royal Enfield Himalayan doppelganger uses a liquid-cooled engine which helps it deliver better power output than the competition. Thus, despite its relatively lower displacement than the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the Yezdi Adventure draws 29.7bhp at 8,000rpm and 29.9Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm from its 334cc, single-cylinder motor. The engine is linked to a six-speed transmission. The feature list, too, is at par with the rivals and the Yezdi Adventure uses LED lighting, a fully-digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, and a dual-channel ABS.

Royal Enfield Himalayan (Rs 2,14,519 – Rs 2,22,159)

The off-road prowess has been achieved through wire-spoke wheels with 21-inch front and 17-inch rear shod in dual-purpose tyres. The feature list includes dual-channel ABS and Royal Enfield ’s Tripper Navigation system that connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth to display turn-by-turn navigation. Not to mention, this motorcycle packs the highest displacement. The 411cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled motor makes 24.3bhp at 6,500rpm and 32Nm of peak torque at 4,500rpm, and it is linked to a five-speed gearbox. The ex-showroom prices vary depending on the colour theme.

To give this long ride bike in India a modern look, the bike has alloy wheels and blacked-out components which make it look attractive. Besides, its standard features include a full-LED lighting system, dual-channel ABS, Bluetooth connectivity, traction control, and a slipper clutch as well.

Weight: 181 kg

Mileage: 32 kmpl

Max Torque: 30 Nm

Price: Rs. 1.95 – 2. 5 Lakhs

Which Bike to Consider?

All the eleven bikes listed above can make cruising on long road trips a breeze. While being spoilt for choice is great, it makes picking a model even harder. Therefore, you should assess your primary objective associated with purchasing a cruiser bike.

If you’re strictly on a budget, then be sure to finalise a cruiser bike that comes at a pocket-friendly price. If you want to go off-road with a cruiser, for example take road trips to scenic yet treacherous terrain of Leh and Ladakh, you’ll need a bike with high torque and wheelbase. Accordingly, you must select the model. Here, the price should ideally take a backseat, especially with several affordable two-wheeler loan options available today.

However, the one commonality you should go for while choosing bikes for long drives in India is the mileage. Know that cruiser bikes are not necessarily known for providing high mileage. This is due to the size and weight their engines carry. But, there are refined options, as mentioned in this list, that do provide a high mileage for a cruiser bike.

Picking a high mileage cruiser will optimise and justify the cost of going on long road trips. Even if you have to shell out a little more than you were initially planning, consider it. A low initial cost with low mileage is ultimately going to cost you more than a slightly expensive cruiser bike with a high mileage, over a long time.

Other than these considerations, you must also look for riding comfort. While this is not usually a top criterion for super bikes or city bikes, it definitely should be one for cruiser motorcycles. Unless, you want to buy a cruiser bike because you like its styling, and don’t have plans to go on long drives.
