Liverpool fans hail 'Arne Slot ball' after training clip from US pre-season tour goes viral - as they claim the Reds are 'winning the lot' under the Dutchman next season

Liverpool fans have been left fawning over a training clip from their pre-season tour of the US.

The Reds headed across the pond earlier this week as they continue preparations ahead of Arne Slot 's first season in charge. 

Liverpool will face Real Betis in Pittsburgh on Friday, before taking on  Arsenal in Philadelphia and Man United in South Carolina next week. 

And, ahead of Friday's clash with the LaLiga outfit, Slot's squad looked sharp in training as the club shared a clip from Wednesday's session on social media.

Within the video, the likes of Jarell Quansah, Curtis Jones, Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah exchanged a slick passing move, with a watchful Slot overseeing the work.

Reds supporters were quick to get excited by the clip as they took to social media to give their thoughts ahead of the new campaign.

One said: 'Winning the lot with Slot,' as another added: 'Liking what I’m seeing so far. Seeing Slot involved with training too it’s really refreshing to see.'

A further enthused fan quipped: 'I'm so excited', while others were quick to point out the differences to Jurgen Klopp's time at the club.

A supporter said: 'Arne Slot ball is 3.0x speed,' before another added: 'You can easily tell where so much smoother on the ball instead of being frantic all the time.'

Liverpool flew out to the US from Manchester Airport on Tuesday, with Slot naming a youthful 28-man squad for their pre-season trip.

11 senior players are missing including the likes of Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk who are on holiday after Euro 2024.

There is also no Joe Gomez, Cody Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch, or Ibrahima Konate after they went deep in the tournament with England, the Netherlands, and France.

Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez, Alisson Becker, Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz are absent due to playing in the Copa America.

Although first-teamers such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Dominik Szoboszlai are in the US, there is a great opportunity for a plethora of youngsters to prove themselves.

Nick Dunlap Wins Second PGA Tour Event: Roll Call, July 22, 2024

Former Alabama golfer Nick Dunlap made history over the weekend by winning the 2024 Barracuda Championship. The win at Old Greenwood course at Tahoe Mountain Club is Dunlap's second of his career and first as an official professional. By winning the Barracuda Championship he became the first golfer to win a PGA event as an amateur and a professional in the same season.

Dunlap scored 19 points on Sunday's final round in the only PGA Tour event to use the Modified Stableford scoring system. His total score of 49 was good enough to best Vince Whaley by two points.

Players are awarded eight points for a double-eagle, five points for an eagle, two points for a birdie, nothing for a par, minus one for a bogey and minus three for a double-bogey or worse. A massive eagle putt on the 15th hole put Dunlap ahead for good in Sunday's final round.

The rookie had to forgo the prize money from his first win on tour as an amateur but got to pocket a cool $720,000 and moved to 63rd position in FedEx Cup points. The top 70 qualify for the FedEx St. Jude Championship at the end of the season.

Thomas finished his first round 3-under par putting him into tournament contention but followed up with a second round 78 (+7) to fall to 4-over. He responded with a solid third round 67 to take him to even for the entire tournament and sit in 10th place, but a Sunday 77 dropped him to his final position tied for 31st.
• Former Alabama defender Dallas Turner signed his rookie contract with the Minnesota Vikings over the weekend. Turner agreed to a four-year contract worth $15.76 million with a team option for the fifth year. Turner's locker also was leaked online depicting former Alabama teammate Khyree Jackson's nameplate alongside his after Jackson passed away in a car accident earlier in the month.

Sammy Hagar 'keeping alive' music of Van Halen in summer Best of All Worlds tour

With guitar wizard joe satriani, drummer jason bonham and van halen founding member michael anthony, sammy hagar says this touring band plays van halen's music "as good as it could possibly be.".

BRISTOW, Virginia – “Never say never, right?” says Sammy Hagar , who's beaming a huge grin as guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani plays the opening notes to " Panama ," a song released 40 years ago by Van Halen, when it was fronted by David Lee Roth.

In the post-Roth years, some Van Halen diehards thought they might never again hear that song from the band's multiplatinum album "1984" in a live setting. But it's ringing out loudly on Hagar's The Best of All Worlds Tour this summer.

The tour's name plays off the title of the song "Best of Both Worlds," on Van Halen's "5150" album from 1986 when Hagar fronted the band . It's also the title of a 2004 Van Halen greatest hits collection with songs from the Hagar and Roth eras.

On tour through August in the U.S., the band – Hagar and Satriani, bassist Michael Anthony , an original member of Van Halen, and drummer Jason Bonham – is playing songs from Van Halen's extensive catalog including some from Roth's days.

Hagar and Anthony, who's also recorded and performed with Hagar in the bands Chickenfoot and Sammy Hagar & the Circle , have said they tried to kickstart a Van Halen reunion over the past two decades. But personality clashes and the death of guitarist Eddie Van Halen in October 2020 prevented the regrouping.

Concert review: Def Leppard, Journey and Steve Miller romp through five hours of rock sing-alongs

Now, the timing felt right to bring some songs back to the stage.

"Mike (Anthony) and I just said, 'Let's put a setlist together and let's put a dream band together that would be more like Van Halen would be and let's go out and play mostly Van Halen (songs)," Hagar told USA TODAY earlier this month.

Also on the road is Rai Thistlethwayte , an Australian multi-instrumentalist from Satriani's band. Thistlehwayte plays guitar, keyboards and sings backing vocals, too.

"He sings great. So we've got a live band that plays just like the record," said Hagar, who notes that often recorded keyboard tracks were used for song such as "Right Now," which restricts bands' spontaneity.

"All the band members grew up on these songs. Jason Bonham … he knows them inside out," Hagar said. "Joe (Satriani), he worshiped Eddie. He's just going, 'Oh man, I get to play this song.' So, the enthusiasm that we're playing these songs with, quite honestly, it's just as good as it could possibly be."

Hagar's Best of All Worlds Tour: 'Do it for Eddie'

That strategy played right into the desires of fans at the July 20 tour stop. Many among the more than 15,000 in attendance wore Van Halen merchandise, including red, black and white-patterned Eddie Van Halen Vans shoes.

Songs from the Van Hagar era dominated the forceful first half-hour. Satriani used a power drill to replicate the gritty guitar riffs in "Poundcake," and the powerful-voiced Hagar, 76, who energetically criss-crossed the stage, grabbed a guitar for his 1981 solo hit "There's Only One Way to Rock."

Anthony belted out several Roth-like screams while delivering lead vocals on “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” from the 1978 debut album "Van Halen." He screamed out “Let's do this for Eddie,” as he led the crowd in choruses of "Hey, hey, hey," near the song's finish.

During the next song, "Top of the World," Anthony and Satriani converged and unexpectedly freelanced a few lines of another classic Van Halen hit “Dance the Night Away.”

“Hey, sometimes I even get surprised,” joked Hagar.

Best of All Worlds Tour: 'A celebration'

The crowd remained on their feet for most of the show, singing along or holding up their phones to capture the moment. The musicians seemed to be having just as much fun. Hagar told the crowd he and Anthony, 70, wanted the tour to be a "a big celebration of the music of Van Halen, the biggest part of my musical life," he said. "It's a celebration of the music … and people who supported that band."

During "Best of Both Worlds," the band tossed in a few measures of Kool and the Gang's song "Celebration," with Bonham singing lead. But for most of the night, Bonham, the son of the late and legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, provided the thunderous hard rock foundation – matched with Anthony's booming bass.

That was most evident during "The Seventh Seal," the first track on the 1995 "Balance" album and one declared a "deep track" by Hagar. Bonham's drum and percussion solo kicked off the song, joined by ominous keyboard and bass accompaniment, then chiming guitars from Satriani.

Eddie Van Halen's presence remained. As Hagar introduced "Eagles Fly," a song from his 1987 "I Never Said Goodbye" release, he said it was one of the late guitarist's favorite tracks from Hagar.

In another nod to beloved guitar-slinger, Satriani wielded a red and white-striped Eddie Van Halen signature guitar he purchased new for the tour (Satriani actually bought four of them, he says).

Throughout, Hagar served not only as singer and guitarist, but stage director bringing attention to his bandmates. Hagar the lifestyle brand was evident, too. He wore T-shirts sporting logos of his Cabo Wabo nightclubs and Santo tequila. Hagar also handed out Sammy's Beach Bar Cocktails and poured tequila to some fans in the front row.

Near the show's end, Hagar again told the crowd, "We never say never," as Thistlethwayte played the opening notes of "Jump," which became a No. 1 hit for Van Halen.

After the finale, "When It's Love," Hagar thanked the crowd and said, "We are keeping it live, and alive, Mikey and I, and these boys right here. Thank you for loving this show."

Fans connected with Hagar and Van Halen roots

Before the Bristow show, the Cooley family who made the 200-mile trip from Virginia Beach, Virginia, were preparing to meet Hagar backstage.

Back in 2013, Allison Cooley, 20, forwarded a video to Hagar showing her and her sister's response when their parents, Matt and Karen, said they had gotten tickets for the family to see him in concert. "He actually ended up posting that video on all of his platforms and it blew up from there," she said. "I've been a big fan and am super excited to be here."

"He raised her right," Hagar said, before posing to take pictures with the family.

Matt Cooley created a Hagar-Van Halen playlist for his daughter and is going to see the band again in Arizona, with his other daughter, Kaitlyn. "I'm a Van Hagar guy, but it's going to be fun to see those (older Van Halen) songs played," Cooley said.

Fans have been expressing their thoughts about the tour online.

After seeing the concert in Atlanta, Instagram user @alliec425 commented on Hagar's post about the show : "It was an amazing show! I loved every minute. I never got to see Van Halen before Eddie passed, but now I feel like I’ve seen Van Halen. Thank you for putting this together. Wow is all I can say!"

COL DE LA COUILLOLE, France (AP) — Tadej Pogacar equalled one Tour de France mark on Saturday and will likely match another on Sunday.

Yellow jersey-holder Pogacar edged defending champion Jonas Vingegaard at the top of Col De La Couillole to win the 20th and penultimate stage and add even more seconds to his considerable lead.

It was a fifth stage victory this month for the two-time champion, who stretched out his arms as he crossed the line before holding up his fingers to signal his number of wins.

The only other man to have won five mountain stages in one Tour was Gino Bartali in 1948.

“If you told me this before the Tour I would not have believed you,” Pogacar said. “It’s out of this world actually. I’m so happy.

“(Five stages) is more than enough. One would be enough. Just the yellow jersey would be enough. But it is how it is, you don’t brake in cycling.”

Pogacar attacked from the leading duo with 150 meters remaining and beat Vingegaard by seven seconds.

It will likely be the same positions on the final podium on Sunday after Pogacar extended his lead to 5 minutes, 14 seconds, over two-time defending champ Vingegaard, his closest rival.

Third-placed Remco Evenepoel lost even more time. He crossed the line in fourth — behind Richard Carapaz — and lost 53 seconds to Pogacar to fall 8:04 behind the Slovenian star.

The Tour ends on Sunday on the French Riviera with a 34-kilometer (21-mile) time trail from Monaco to Nice, and not in Paris as it usually does because of the Olympic Games .

Barring incident, Pogacar is almost certain to reclaim the Tour crown from Vingegaard and in doing so secure a rare Giro d’Italia and Tour de France double. The last rider to win both in the same year was the late Marco Pantani in 1998.

“I enjoyed (the stage) very much,” Pogacar said. “It didn’t go as we planned, but I couldn’t be happier with that, another stage win. Just one more day ... and tomorrow I think I’m going to enjoy it as well.”

After his explosive attack the previous day , Pogacar said he would not try to win Saturday’s stage, a short but brutal 133-kilometer (83-mile) route from Nice that featured three hard category 1 ascents.

Indeed, the UAE Emirates rider just stayed with the rest of the reduced group of title contenders on the daunting 16-kilometer (10-mile) ramp up the the Col de la Couillole until Vingegaard made his move and Pogacar sat on the Dane’s wheel.

They then swept up the remnants of the breakaway and caught up to the front two of Carapaz and Enric Mas with 2.5 kilometers remaining.

First Mas and then Carapaz were dropped, setting up an intriguing battle in the final kilometer between the two cycling stars but it was only a matter of time before Pogacar launched his sprint.

Moments after crossing the line, Pogacar pulled up and waited for Vingegaard to embrace him.

Vingegaard was hospitalized for nearly two weeks in April following a high-speed crash in the Tour of the Basque Country. He resumed competitive racing only on this Tour.

“In some kind of way I was hoping he would give it to me,” Vingegaard said. “But I knew already that I had been riding so hard, if he would sprint I would have no chance as I was already on my limit.

“But you can always hope. But it’s cycling, that’s how it is. I don’t blame him at all, I would do probably the same. I’m just happy with how I performed today and how I could come back from yesterday.”
