Historic Moravian Bethlehem is one of only eight National Historic Landmark Districts in Pennsylvania and one of only about 200 in the entire United States!

It preserves two National Historic Landmarks, 1741 Gemeinhaus and 1762 Waterworks. Historic Moravian Bethlehem’s footprint is 14 acres of the original 18th-century Moravian settlement which served as the center of Moravian activities in America. The settlement played a key role in both the international and American Moravian communities.

Today, visitors can experience some of the finest 18th century colonial Germanic architecture in the nation and explore some of the artifacts that speak to the Moravian community.

Historic Moravian Bethlehem was nominated to the US Tentative List in 2016 for eventual nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage List. This would denote Historic Moravian Bethlehem as having historical and cultural significance on a global level on par with only 1,000 other sites in the world such as the Great Wall of China and the pyramids of Egypt.

At Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites we strive to keep this very important history alive through educational programs and tours, active preservation of 20 historic sites, 60,000+ artifacts, and over 275 years of Bethlehem’s rich heritage. You can experience all these things for yourself by joining us with historic walking tours, family-friendly events, interactive exhibits and programs, museum and historic site tours, and much more.

The Historic Bethlehem Visitor Center & Museum Gift Shop is your gateway into history. Standing as an invaluable resource for information on the city, making the Visitor Center your first stop is an absolute must. Here you can purchase your tickets to tour our many amazing sites, get information on local events, and learn about the stories of the beautiful buildings of our historic downtown. You’ll also find unique gifts and items such as artwork, jewelry, beauty products, tasty treats, and crafts created by local artisans and businesses – even items made by our professional Blacksmiths right down the street at the 1750 Smithy!

We strive to make your visit unforgettable and can cater for groups big and small. You can even rent out 4 of our historic sites for your next event. Call us about arranging custom tours for your group or for information on historic site rentals.

Be sure to visit Historic Moravian Bethlehem during the holiday season to experience “Christmas City, USA” like never before. Be enchanted by our beautiful city with walking tours, horse-drawn carriage rides, bus tours, gorgeous Christmas Tree displays, Holiday Putz Trail, and the nation’s only Live Advent Calendar.
