2024 Lavender Season Tour Dates in Provence!

Join us for lavender season in exquisite provence, france.

Lavender flowering season remains one of the most popular times of the year to discover and explore Provence, France. You’ll witness mother nature’s talent in action from mid-June to the end of July. The gradual metamorphosis from buds to vivid, deep purple flowers transforms the already spectacular, neutral-colored rolling hills and valleys of the Luberon, Sault, and Valensole plateau into a magical tapestry of contrasting colors. Majestically scented aromas of fresh lavender accompany nature’s canvas of brilliant colors.

Lavender has been a significant part of Provence’s history and culture for centuries, with various traditional uses in the region. Some of the traditional uses of lavender in Provence include:

  • Perfume and Aromatherapy: Lavender has been used for its fragrance and therapeutic properties. Ancient Egyptians used it as a perfume base, while the Romans used the oils for cooking, bathing, and perfuming soaps. In Provence, lavender was historically used by “Les Lavandières,” female workers who washed clothes with lavender-scented soap. The fragrance of blooming lavender fields is also a major attraction.
  • Medicinal Purposes: Lavender is known for its medicinal qualities.  Due to its disinfectant and healing properties, it is used to relieve headaches, migraines, insect bites, and sunburns.
  • Culinary Use: The Romans used lavender oils for cooking, and it continues to be used in Provencal cuisine for flavoring and aromatizing dishes.
  • Repelling Insects: Lavender is valued for its ability to repel certain insects, which has been a traditional use in the region.
  • Aesthetic and Decorative Purposes: The beauty of the lavender fields has been a source of inspiration and admiration, contributing to the region’s renown. The fields of blooming lavender are a sight to behold, attracting visitors from around the world.

These traditional uses have contributed to the significance of lavender in Provence’s cultural and economic landscape, making it a symbol of the region’s natural beauty and heritage. Our small group Provence lavender season tour  experience will leave you breathless and wanting more!

Why choose us? Because booking an individual or group tour with us comes with a range of benefits. We prioritize making your journey as comfortable as possible. Your preferences are our priority – we always listen to you and your preferences. Hence, you have the opportunity to adjust the route, make changes, and modifications according to your wishes. Additionally, please note that when booking an excursion, the return transfer to Nice Airport is complimentary! All bookings with us are made without mandatory prepayment, except for hot air balloon flights and the gastronomic tour.

F.A.Q. - Frequently Asked Questions

Lavender in Provence blooms from mid-June to early August, typically until around the 10th. For more details about the blooming period and specific timelines, read further here.

Highly unlikely. Perhaps a few isolated small fields might remain. It all depends on the weather during the current season.

Unfortunately, no. Geographically, we are located in Nice and organize one-day tours to Provence only from cities along the French Riviera. From Menton to Saint-Tropez.

Sure, but… Besides being significantly more expensive, it will also be quite challenging for you. The journey alone in one direction will take over 3 hours.

We monitor the weather forecast and in case of truly unfavorable conditions we reschedule the excursion (by mutual agreement) to one of the next days. But for your peace of mind, it should be said that this happens extremely rarely (1 – 2 times per summer).

Yes! We guarantee a 100% trip to the lavender fields even with an incomplete group. If the number of people is 4 or less, we will provide a comfortable sedan. And even if you’re the only one there on this date, we’ll give you a tour!

Yes, when ordering an individual excursion, you can specify your departure time! Please note that for early check-out (before 6:00 am) we charge an additional fee of 50 euros.

Changing the route is possible only when ordering an individual tour and by agreement in advance.

There are 3 options possible:

1. When ordering an individual tour, no additional payment is required for departure from any city between Nice and Fréjus. 2. If we have a range of dates, we will pick you up at your place of residence (hotel or apartment) without any additional payment. 3. In any other case, we ask for an additional payment of 30 euros for Antibes and 50 euros for Cannes.

You will need to either get to Nice yourself at the specified time, or order a transfer at a price of 80 euros each way from us.

For an individual excursion – additional payment of 80 euros.

When ordering a group tour, you will need to either get to Nice yourself at the specified time, or order a transfer at a price of 60 euros each way from us.

It’s possible, but we don’t recommend it. First of all, this is due to the long journey, heat and winding roads. Experience shows that such an excursion is somewhat of a burden for small children. So take your time! Leave Provence for later… This will give you an excellent reason to return to the French Riviera again!

No prepayment is required to book an excursion! In some cases, you can make an advance payment using a link or using PayPal!

You can always pay online using the link or via PayPal!

All you need to do is indicate the excursion option and the desired date. As soon as we have confirmed your appointment for the specified date (this happens immediately), we guarantee your trip! 2 – 3 days before the specified date, we will contact you to confirm, as well as to clarify the details of the trip!

Be sure to take with you:

1. Hats and sunglasses (heat, sun) 2. Have closed, comfortable shoes with you 3. Beach accessories (you can swim in the Lake of the Holy Cross) 4. Sandwiches, etc. (you can organize a picnic in nature) 5. Cash 6. Camera 7. And of course a good mood 😉

We absolutely do not recommend it!

1. Use bright perfumes and other cosmetics with a strong scent (so as not to unnecessarily attract bees) 2. Run in open shoes (flip-flops) through lavender fields 3. Picking lavender from farmers’ fields without permission 4. Be late everywhere and everywhere, making other participants wait for you 5. Take your husband with you, who is initially not eager to visit Provence! 🙂

  • sskroll 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great Way to See The City We were with a small group of people and didn't go inside the Pope's Palace because of all the steps but our tour guide was very informative and after we left the palace we also got around the city to several different other places before the rain started coming down. There is a lot to see and experience within the walled city. There are all kind of shops and restaurants in the nooks and crannies of the city. Plenty of places to do some souvenir shopping as well as clothes shopping, etc. Very nice people and very friendly. There are some nice restaurants and you can even find a McDonald's. One of the special things we did was be able to go into the synagogue there and see the history as well as have a chat with the rabbi. Lots of places we went near any type of religious place we did see a police presence. Read more Written November 25, 2023
  • 42golf56_9 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Outstanding tour This was an outstanding tour, the Roman coliseum and temple in Nimes were in outstanding shape. In the PM we went to the Pont du Gard and the Roman theater in Orange, both were really excellent. The outstanding guide Jerem did all the driving and the explanations of the sites, a big job. The only drawback was the lunch period at Uzes'. There were other tourbus patrons there and we all had an hour to eat lunch. There were not many servers at each place and one had to use the cafe's restroom. There were public toilets but they were scattered far apart and the one we went to was closed. We had only enough time to eat our bagged lunch as a result. This was not even high season! Read more Written November 11, 2023

  • MauricioMendezM 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great tour to van Gogh’s landmarks in Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, and nice wine tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape A great tour. Our guide, Ghislain, was a very friendly, kind and knowledgeable man, and the minibus we the group drove around in was well equipped with AC and a microphone for him to speak to us in a clear manner. He told us about the history of every ladmark we visited and gave us a generous-enough amount of time to see each location and take pictures, especially in van Gogh’s monastery/asylum, which I really appreciated. The two wineries in Châteauneuf-du-Pape we visited after lunch (in our case, Domaine St. Patrice and La Maison Bouachon) gave us a warm welcome and, on each site, they offered us an enjoyable and even educational tasting of a nice selection of red wines. Overall, I was very satisfied with the tour from beggining to end, merci beaucoup! Read more Written October 17, 2023
  • courtneybC3767ZZ 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to see the area for first-time visitors to Provence We enjoyed the overview of Provence for our first-time visit to the area, as well as the small group experience which was well worth the extra cost. Our driver and tour guide, Bridget, took good care of us. Highly recommend for first time visitors to Provence. We stopped at many villages (including lunch stop at Roussillon) and had a quick walking tour of Saint Remy. A highlight was UNESCO world heritage site Pont du Gard (1st Century Roman aqueduct), which is a must-see. One note of caution: Those who suffer from motion sickness should prepare accordingly for the day on the road. Read more Written October 16, 2023

  • Terry C 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Decent Tour But Lost Focus Due to Wine Snob Participant Our driver/guide, Florian (sp), had an outgoing personality and spoke English very well. The tour's focus was suppose to be on the historic Roman sites in Provence. Most of the time, Florian, stayed on focus. But unfortunately, one of the participants in group, from Australia, was a wine snob and redirected the conversation often to discussions of wine. Florian also was knowledgeable on wines and accommodated the snob in discussions. The wine snob should have taken the wine tour instead of the Roman historical tour. Florian should also stayed more focused on the historical site. Read more Written October 11, 2023

  • ShootingGirl 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Too much driving, not enough info If you've seen similar sites in Rome, then pass on this. The guide, Flo, really just drove us around. Instead of getting interesting tidbits about Romans in France, he talked about the wine industry and his hometown. Granted, the dude next to him kept asking him those questions, but at some point he should have gotten back on track. Instead he relied on the audio guides at the stops, which were less than stellar. The coliseum in Nimes is undergoing restoration and the outside is interesting. They still use it as an arena, so the inside has been retrofitted with metal stadium bleachers, which really detracts. The audio guide was worthless - way too much fake "interviewing" as if you're at a gladiator match! The Pont du Gord was amazing to see in person. The last, a theater in (? forgot) was in good condition, but only entertained for about 10 minutes. Lots of driving for very little history and information! Read more Written October 10, 2023

The guide (Jhis?) was friendly and knowledgeable thanks to his years of experience in his previous job as a scientist with the Luberon national park. There was plenty of time to explore 3 villages. The villages were achingly beautiful. Highly recommended. (PS don’t be the annoying person who’s late every time the bus has to leave.) The morning is yours to enjoy at your leisure with market shopping, strolling, or perhaps a little photography to capture this idyllic Provencal setting. Just before lunch hour we’ll head off to the High Provence region for lunch at a rustic farm house and then on to a distillery to learn all about the types of lavender grown in the region and the distilling process. We’ll also explore the village Sault (lavender capital of Provence) and most likely be tempted to buy ice-cream at the Maison Boyer. After a day exploring the countryside, relax this evening at the B&B. Dinner will be casual with market produce and local specialties shared together by the pool and with the sunset.

Le Long Weekend

Luxury and Lavender: An Exclusive Tour to Le Château du Bois in Provence, France

Imagine walking through a manicured estate growing Europe’s finest lavender. Fields of purple flowers spread out into the horizon, like ripples on a sunset-bathed ocean. As you lazily brush your hands through the knee-high stems, their delicate scent fills the air around you, while the buzz of contented bees becomes your beatific soundtrack.

Welcome to Le Château du Bois, producers of true lavender in Provence, France.

Last week I was invited to experience an exclusive new tour to the lavender fields of Château du Bois. Our day involved getting acquainted with the region’s finest lavender, a sumptuous lunch, and touring some of Provence’s most exquisite sights.

Read on to find out what makes this luxury lavender tour in Provence so special, and how you can experience it for yourself.

Chateau du Bois fine lavender estate in Provence, France

Le Château du Bois Lavender Farm

If you’ve ever purchased any of Le Château du Bois’ lavender products, you’ll know there is a quality to them that supersedes the competition. But what you may not realise, is that behind that coveted scent is a family that dedicates their lives to the creation, and protection, of fine lavender in Provence.

The Lincelé family have been growing Lavandula Angustifolia (formerly known as Lavandula Officinalis)  at Le Château du Bois since 1890, and have turned their love of lavender into a burgeoning family business.

Jack Lincele of Chateau du Bois explains the intricacies of fine Provencal Lavender.

What makes the fine lavender grown at Château du Bois special

To find true lavender, you must venture up past the Luberon to the highest landscapes of Haute-Provence. It’s only here, set above 800m, in the finest lavender fields of Provence , France, that true lavender can grow.

The lavender that can cure a multitude of ailments; the lavender with a distinctively sweet, delicate smell; the lavender that is AOP certified  to guarantee its quality.

While it’s true that you can visit many other lavender fields in the Luberon , what you should know is that they are in fact fields of, lavandin, or hybrid lavender. They too produce a fragrant scent which is much stronger than that of fine lavender, but it comes without some of the medicinal properties that gave lavender its nickname of ‘blue gold’ in ancient times.

Exclusive Tour of the Château du Bois – Lavender Fields of Provence

Our tour of the Château du Bois lavender estate starts at the  Musée de la Lavande in Coustellet. The lavender museum is also owned and run by the Lincelé family – as an outlet to showcase their love, and knowledge of true lavender – but today we’re leaving the treasures inside to be discovered at the end of the tour.

Instead, we climb aboard a luxury open-top minibus that will be our chariot for the day. We zip through the Luberon with the sun shining on our faces as we gaze up at Gordes, and catch a glance of the distinctively warm tones of Roussillon in the distance.

We climb higher, through landscapes peppered with lavender fields and golden stone houses, and finally weave our way up a steep winding road overlooking the  Colorado Provençal until we reach Lagarde-d’Apt – home of le Château du Bois.

Lavender Tour at Le Château du Bois

A welcome breeze gently brushes our shoulders as we step off the bus and into the sublime scene before us. Our first stop is near the ancient windmill where Jack and Max Lincelé, our guides for the morning, takes us to an excellent vantage point for seeing the entire estate with its patchwork of purple lavender fields and tall cedar forests.

As the morning unfolds, we have ample time to explore, enjoy, take photographs and get acquainted with the lavender fields of Provence at Château du Bois. Max leads us through both the oldest and youngest lavender fields on the farm and explains the intricacies of growing lavender in this environment.

It’s clear that here, the Lincelé family are the guardians of the land, but mother nature is very much left to do what she does best.

Lavender Distillery Provence

Once we’re ready, we head back towards the château where we learn about the lavender oil extraction process. Like everything on this farm, it’s a full family affair that must take place at precisely the right time to make the most of the year’s crop.

It’s a relatively simple process, and it’s astounding to see that by and large, the lavender is still distilled much as it has been for decades before.

Luxury lunch at the château

We’re welcomed into the château like friends and toast to a wonderful morning with a glass of champagne laced with lavender syrup. The doors of the renovated château are open wide to make the most of the incredible views – not only of the farm – but beyond, where the alps can be seen jutting into the skyline in the distance.

Lunch is light and delicious. Local specialities in fine flavours, paired with silken wines. Afterwards, there is cheese, fruit, and finally coffee to perk us up for the second half of this incredible full-day tour of Provence.

Visiting the Abbaye de Sénanque

Boarding our bus again, we whip through the countryside, this time pausing for the iconic view of Gordes as it spills down into the landscape. We then carry on around the bend to the breathtaking Sénanque Abbey.

Our guide explains the significance of the Cistercian abbey as we marvel at its beauty. Both the surroundings and the structure itself will leave you spellbound, while the abbey’s curated lavender fields create a contrast against the green pine backdrop.

Guided Tour of Gordes

Aside from lavender fields , there’s no image more synonymous with Provence than that of the hillside village of Gordes. It’s fitting then, that Gordes is our next stop on the lavender tour. This time we park in the centre of the village and walk down through the stunning cobbled lanes of the village.

We pause to peek inside the church which, although the roof is currently being restored, is still lovely to see in all its Italian-influenced glory. Then continue through the village, and even though I visited Gordes plenty of times in the past, I’m surprised there’s still a lot about this historical village that I didn’t know. But I’ll let you discover those tidbits for yourself!

Guided tour of the Musée de la Lavande

The last stop on our Provence lavender tour is the Musée de la Lavande. This intriguing lavender museum tells of the importance blue gold has had in Provence throughout the years. It houses a variety of traditional stills and other lavender distilling paraphernalia that will capture your attention as you listen to the informative audio guide.

At the end of the petite museum, you’ll find the Château du Bois boutique where you can sample and purchase a wide variety of lavender laced treats to take back home.

Moscow guide&photo! Feel Putin vibes and explore the enigmatic Russian soul through history ...

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.

7 of the best all-inclusive experiences to book this year, from a travel planner

  • As a travel planner, my clients seem to be increasingly interested in all-inclusive trips .
  • Some of my favorite luxury resorts are in Costa Rica, the Maldives, and Isla Mujeres.
  • Cruises, group tours, and adults-only lodgings can also come with all-inclusive options.

Insider Today

As a travel planner at Marvelous Mouse Travels , I know vacations are expensive — especially if you're looking to go somewhere this summer . But all-inclusive travel is often a great way to get the most value out of a luxury experience.

I've been on several all-inclusive vacations with my family, friends, and work, and I've helped other people book them in destinations around the world .

Here are some of the best all-inclusive experiences I'm recommending to my clients this year.

Try a split-stay vacation to see the best of Costa Rica.

lavender tour group

Costa Rica is one of the most sought-after vacations , and for good reason. It's great for both relaxation and adventure.

I recommend booking a split stay, starting at an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste near the beach for some fun in the sun and moving to a resort near the famous Arenal Volcano for a jungle adventure.

Some of my favorite resorts in Costa Rica are the Westin Reserva Conchal and the Dreams Las Mareas. And if you're looking for an even more unique experience, check out the glorious swim-out suites with private pools at Dreams.

Baglioni Maldives is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts.

lavender tour group

The Maldives, a remote set of islands in the Indian Ocean, offers a plethora of resort options for couples and families, but Baglioni Maldives is my favorite.

For many in the US, getting to the islands can be daunting — there are very few direct commercial flights, and it can take almost an entire day. But it's hard to beat the country's luxury accommodations and gorgeous landscape.

The Maldives also has some of the most beautiful marine life and coveted spots for snorkeling and scuba diving.

No matter where you go, overwater bungalows are the ultimate all-inclusive splurge.

lavender tour group

Overwater bungalows — villas standing on poles over open ocean water — are prevalent at all-inclusive resorts in destinations like the Maldives, Fiji, and Bali.

But I've also come across the luxurious accommodations at select adults-only Sandals Resorts throughout the Caribbean.

I think having a private villa on the water is the perfect way to unwind and relax.

Adults-only vacations are on the rise.

lavender tour group

Traveling with kids can be a blast, but I also think it's important for adults to take a much-needed break on their own.

Adults-only resorts have been a total respite for me and my husband after hectic months of juggling work with our kids' school and sports schedules.

If you're looking to unwind with a partner, relax on a girls' trip, or even connect with your adult children, there are countless adults-only, all-inclusive resorts to choose from, depending on where you're looking to visit.

Some properties, including Sandals and Beaches Resorts, also offer butler service. Designated staff members can help with anything from room requests and dining reservations to cabana rentals and transportation coordination.

I upgraded to the service at my favorite adults-only spot, Le Blanc Los Cabos, and I felt totally pampered.

Isla Mujeres is pure luxury.

lavender tour group

Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancún, is known for its crystal-clear, turquoise water and peaceful vibe. It's also home to Playa Norte, one of the best beaches in Mexico .

Impressions Isla Mujeres by Secrets is a gorgeous all-inclusive resort on the island. It offers luxury at its finest, but with only 125 rooms, it has a boutique feel.

One of my favorite features of the resort is the waterslide that leads right into the beautiful ocean.

There are plenty of all-inclusive packages at sea.

lavender tour group

Cruising is one of the most popular vacations , whether it's an epic adventure on a Royal Caribbean Cruise, a couples-only journey on Virgin Voyages, or a regal tour of Europe on Viking River Cruises.

Although cruises aren't traditionally considered all-inclusive, with the right booking, they can have the same feel as a luxury resort.

Most cruise bookings include food, nonalcoholic drinks, and live entertainment. If you add beverage packages and excursions in advance, your trip should be fully paid for before you depart.

Book a small-group or private tour if you're looking for adventure.

lavender tour group

Group travel is a great way to explore new places while soaking up culture and history.

Popular destinations include Italy, Japan, Costa Rica, and Alaska, and many travel companies take care of everything for you, essentially making it all-inclusive.

I like Adventures by Disney , which offers small-group travel all over the world facilitated by seasoned guides. All the trip details are taken care of, including experiences, food, lodging, and transportation.

Additionally, Kensington Tours offers luxury private travel where every facet of the trip is meticulously planned for you.

Police investigating after 'American Idol' alum, singer Mandisa found dead in home

lavender tour group

Christian music sensation Mandisa has died at 47.

The singer was found deceased in her home on Thursday, a rep for Mandisa confirmed to USA TODAY on Friday.

“At this time, we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time," her team said via email.

Officers were investigating her death, a spokesperson for the Franklin Police Department told the USA TODAY Network on Friday after the Christian singer and "American Idol" alum was found dead.

"Mandisa was a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life’s challenges all around the world. She wrote this song for a dear friend who had passed in 2017. Her own words say it best. 'I'm already home, You've got to lay it down 'cause Jesus holds me now—And I am not alone,'" a statement posted Friday on her official Facebook account read.

The California native first rose to fame on Season 5 of "American Idol," when she finished within the Top 10.

Later, she released her debut album "True Beauty" and went on to become one of the most recognizable voices in the Christian music industry. The five-time Grammy Award nominee snagged the best contemporary Christian music album award for her 2013 album, "Overcomer," featuring the popular title song.

Passages 2024: Dickey Betts, Eleanor Coppola, Roberto Cavalli, more stars we've lost

Reps for the show issued a statement to USA TODAY about the loss of Mandisa on Friday.

"Mandisa was an adored icon on American Idol and in the music industry. She had become a platinum-selling artist and had won several Grammys for her music. Her passing has left everyone on the show heartbroken, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family," the statement read.

Robin Roberts mourns loss of Mandisa, who she listened to during cancer treatments

In 2017, during an interview with Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America," Mandisa recounted her struggle with a deep depression three years prior. Mandisa said she became depressed after the death from breast cancer of her best friend LaKisha "Kisha" Mitchell , who was also a background singer for the star.

“It got pretty bad to the point where if I had not gotten off that road I would not be sitting here today,” Mandisa told Robin Roberts on “ GMA .” "I was this close to listening to that voice that told me, ‘You can be with Jesus right now, Mandisa. All you have to do is take your life.'"

Roberts, who listened to Mandisa's song "Stronger" during her own breast cancer treatments, mourned Mandisa's loss in a Facebook post Friday, recounting how the "Idol" alum was present during her first day back on "GMA" after her cancer battle.

"My heart is heavy hearing about Mandisa. Incredibly blessed that she was there my first day back on GMA after my long medical leave. Her beautiful music and spirit lifted me and countless others. Sending prayers and condolences to her family & loved ones." she said, adding a link of Mandisa's performance .

Mandisa's death shared by Christian radio station: 'Struggles are over'

Mandisa's death was first shared in a blog post by Christian radio station K-Love.

In a statement, K-Love Chief Media Officer David Pierce said she "loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn" and asked for prayers for the star's family and friends.

"Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it wasno match for the size of her heart. Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles. Mandisa’s struggles are over. She is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home," the statement read.

Lead singer for the Grammy winning, Billboard topping R&B group Tavares dies

NEW BEDFORD — Arthur “Pooch” Tavares, member of the iconic music group Tavares, has passed away.

His brother, Perry Lee “Tiny” Tavares, posted a photo tribute on his Facebook page Wednesday morning, with the message, "Miss what we had."

On the final photo, depicting Pooch with brother Ralph, who passed away in 2021, he wrote, “Now you two can get the stage ready for us. RI-Paradise.”

Post drew hundreds of expressions of sympathy

The post quickly drew over 400 expressions of sympathy and condolence.

"You have to take your music seriously. You have to have a passion for it. If you don't work hard at it you will never last," said Pooch in a previous Standard-Times article . "The constant rehearsing the fighting for everything you want ... without that passion for it you have nothing."

Pooch suffered a massive stroke in 2014, which ultimately led to his retirement from the group.

It was only a little over a week ago that the New Bedford City Council met to discuss the dedication ceremony for Tavares Brothers Way, a street honoring the brothers and their accomplishments.

Councilors had hoped to schedule Tavares dedication quickly

Councilors had hoped to set the ceremony as quickly possible, knowing that Arthur had been ill.

Councilor Derek Baptiste, who had made the motion to honor Tavares, said Wednesday, "It's a tough day. I wish we could have gotten everything done earlier so he could have celebrated — let him see the day. You want people to get their flowers while they're here. I'm just having a hard time with it today."

Baptiste said he received a text this morning from a family member confirming his death.

He said there was some comfort in knowing that Arthur knew the dedication was going to happen.

But it was still difficult.

It's tough when you start losing legends

"It's tough when you start losing legends, when you lose people you look up to," he said.

New street signs proclaiming Tavares Brothers Way have been prepared, it was reported to the council on April 8.

Councilors and city officials were coordinating on a date for the ceremony.

Councilors had also supported incorporating a memorial with benches at the site, which the city was working on.

New Tavares Way will replace part of Griffin Court

The new street replaces Griffin Court, from South Second Street to JFK Memorial Boulevard, which has no houses or businesses.

Baptiste had said the site was especially appropriate because the area selected was once a thriving Cape Verdean community.

Tiny Tavares was in attendance at the January meeting in which the council initially approved the new street.

He said after that meeting, "It's a privilege to finally have it done. I'm glad it's being done, especially on behalf of my family. I want my brothers to witness it. We've lost one [Ralph Tavares], and I don't want to lose any more before it happens."

How Tavares became famous

The five Tavares brothers made New Bedford proud with numerous chart-topping songs, tours with The Jackson Five and even winning a Grammy.

The R&B group  Tavares  featured brothers Feliciano, aka “Butch,” Perry Lee, aka “Tiny,” Antone, aka “Chubby” Arthur “Pooch" and Ralph Tavares who grew up in Providence and later New Bedford.

New Bedford street: could be named for hometown music icons Tavares

They had eight singles on Billboard's Top 40, 12 Singles on the R&B Top 10 Chart (Including three No. 1 records), three Dance Chart Hits, including a No. 1, and 10 Hit Albums. This included their best-known 1976 hit " Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel " and the  Bee Gees  song " More Than a Woman .”

Their work on the soundtrack to the iconic movie, “Saturday Night Fever,” won them a Grammy in 1978.

The brothers were inducted into the Cape Verdean Museum Hall of Fame in 2006; in 2013, they were honored with "Lifetime Achievement Awards" by The National R&B Music Society Black Tie Gala; and they were inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014.

Ralph, the oldest member of the group, passed away in 2021 of natural causes two days shy of his 80th birthday.

Certares to Fuel FTI Tech Overhaul with Takeover, $130 Million Investment

Jesse Chase-Lubitz , Skift

April 16th, 2024 at 1:59 PM EDT

A leading travel and tourism investment firm acquires the third-largest tour operator in Europe.

Jesse Chase-Lubitz

Certares , a travel and tourism investment firm, led a consortium that acquired FTI Group , the third-largest tour operator in Europe.

This deal ends a restructuring begun in September to strengthen FTI’s finances.

The consortium will own all of the share capital, and FTI will get about $130 million (€125 million) to funnel into its digital transformation and growth.

“Certares’ extensive industry experience and the new capital funding position FTI for exceptional growth,” said Karl Markgraf, CEO of the FTI Group.

Certares holds stakes in a range of travel companies like G Adventures, AmaWaterways and American Express Global Business Travel. The company and another private equity firm also own a majority stake in Hertz and it acquired several hotels in the last year. Certares founder and senior managing director Greg O’Hara became the chair of the World Travel & Tourism Council in November.

Munich-based FTI Group has 120 subsidiaries in German speaking markets, the Netherlands, UK, France, and other destinations.

The group had 6 million customers as of 2022, the latest figures available. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding to be a launch partner with Saudi Arabia for increased multi-day tours in the Middle East.

Competitors to FTI include the giant TUI Group, DER Touristik, Kuoni, and Hotelplan.

Correction: This article has been updated to note that Certares owns a majority stake in Hertz with another private equity firm. An earlier version of this article also said that Certares owns a stake in Tripadvisor – its stake is in Liberty Tripadvisor.
