The Donum Estate

The Donum Estate brings to life a delicate balance among fine wine, sustainable farming and renowned art that has made it an international destination.

Wine

A leader in single-vineyard, single-appellation Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, limited-production Donum wines reflect the soil from which they derive - expressing the nuance and complexity of each micro-terroir.

Art

The Donum Collection, one of the largest accessible, private sculpture collections in the world, features more than 50 monumental works placed throughout the Estate.

Land

Sustainability is at the forefront of our vision. We have achieved organic certification by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) organization and Regenerative Organic Certified® by the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA).

Experience the Estate

A visit to the Donum Estate is truly a holistic sensory experience. Located in the acclaimed Sonoma wine region Carneros, guests enjoy a tasting of top-rated Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and tour of the sustainably farmed Estate and world-renowned Donum Collection of art.

Access our Wines

Donum farms to low yields, capturing the energy and essence of the land, and uses only the best barrels to ensure the finished wine is rich yet balanced, with remarkable depth. The result is limited production of high quality, award winning wines. An assortment of wines are available in our online store, while Members enjoy first access to new releases, and library and reserve wines during annual allocations.

Recent Accolades

2021 Carneros Reserve Chardonnay

There’s a depth and intensity to this, with sliced cooked apple, white peach and crushed stone character throughout. Full-bodied yet it’s electric with very energetic acidity at the end that gives it lift and verve.

2021 Pearl Pinot Noir

Aromas of strawberries, hazelnut and chocolate. So perfumed. It’s full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that give the finest silk-like texture.

2021 Thomas Pinot Noir

This polished but powerful wine is tempting to simply gulp down due to its effusive, intense black cherry and black currant flavors, but the structure is also excellent.

In the news

Virginie Boone — “Discover Another Palette”, Wine Enthusiast Logo

Among the finest estates in Carneros, Donum is already a can’t-miss producer for many. But there’s an additional draw beyond its stunning Pinot Noir and Chardonnay: a world-class outdoor sculpture garden with works from Ai Weiwei, Anselm Kiefer, Louise Bourgeois, Richard Hudson, Keith Haring and many others.

The Drinks Business Magazine Logo

The top performing producer of The Global Pinot Noir Masters 2021 was Sonoma single vineyard specialist Donum Estate. Gaining more than 95 points for all its entries, it is clear that Donum is a Master of Pinot Noir. Not only that, but with different Pinot expressions according to sourcing, it showed that Donum is able to reflect site specifics – a sign of good vineyard management, and sensitive handling in the cellar.

Tasting Tours

A visit to Jarvis Estate is an extraordinary journey, like no other, into the world of exceptional winemaking. Visitors to the country’s first winery built entirely underground are offered an intimate glimpse into the meticulous steps that go into producing our lush Chardonnays, rich Cabernet Sauvignons and velvety Merlots, among others.

We offer two tours. The Vintage Tasting, open to the public, and the Founders' Reserve Experience is available exclusively to Inner Circle members and their guests. Advance reservations are required for both.

The Vintage Tasting

Touring the 45,000 square foot cave is a unique experience and reveals how the Jarvis Estate approach to crafting world-class wines differs from what is found virtually anywhere else.  The tour includes a visit to the Cuve Gallery, a collection of one dozen massive oak vessels assembled in the cave by French coopers and used to make certain the exceptional flavors developed in the estate vineyards are not compromised. The underground waterfall near the end of the tour ensures the steady cave temperatures and humidity that are vital to the Jarvis Estate signature style of extended aging in new French oak barrels.

Finally, guests have the opportunity to enjoy the rewards of these painstaking efforts. The tour concludes with an intimate, seated experience in our Tasting Chamber where visitors will sample a curated selection of Jarvis Estate and Reserve Collection wines. Please allow 90 minutes for your visit in order to fully appreciate the truly distinctive Jarvis Estate.

The Founders' Reserve Experience

The visit will last about 90 minutes and includes an abbreviated tour so there is plenty of time to enjoy the barrel tasting and our lineup of Reserve wines including the newly introduced DTR (Dimitri Tchelistcheff Reserve), Will Jarvis' Science Project, Lake William, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Unfiltered Finch Hollow Chardonnay, and others, alongside a gourmet charcuterie board.

Please be advised that all experiences at Jarvis are for guests 21 and over as we are a working production facility. We cannot legally permit anyone under 21 on the tour and tasting.

We also recommend wearing footwear that is appropriate for walking throughout the cave facility and kindly remind our guests to exercise caution by watching their step during the tour.

Thank you for your interest. We welcome guests at our Brown Downtown Napa tasting room Tuesday through Sunday with scheduled seatings between 10:30am and 4:30pm. Walk-ins accommodated as scheduling & staffing permit.

The local wine makers/operators provided a great experience. It was nice to visit wineries that were smaller; it made the experience more personal and intimate having a small group. The tastings were enjoyable and the day trip was well rounded with plenty of stops for bathrooms and lunches. Thank you to Mark- this was the highlight of our trip! Please note that only certified service animals are allowed on property. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate pets. Thank you for understanding.

The Napa County WDO (Winery Definition Ordinance) precludes us from hosting “social events”, including any weddings and wedding related events.

We do not impose any particular dress code, however most of our guests choose to dress in what we call “Wine Country Casual” – think somewhere between resort casual and business casual.

There is parking on-site, but we recommend car-pooling or hiring a shuttle service. We have no restrictions on shuttle size. We do not recommend using Uber as they have been unreliable.

Due to permitting restrictions, we can only serve Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars wine on property.

#VISITNAPAVALLEY

With hundreds of wineries and miles of the valley to explore, we want you to know there's no wrong way to enjoy Napa Valley

Can I wear jeans to a winery?

Yes! Jeans are acceptable year-round – we call it wine country casual (for women — sundresses, blouses and skirts, nice jeans, wedges, sandals, etc.; for men – golf shirts, khaki pants, nice jeans, dressier shorts, stylish sneakers, boat shoes, etc.).

A more upscale winery might call for darker denim, and be sure to dress in layers as many winery experiences take place outdoors and tours often take guests through wine caves and chilled cellar areas.

How do I taste wine?

First of all: Wine should be enjoyed , so don't overthink it – have fun and drink what you like.

If you want to taste like a professional:

  • LOOK at the color and clarity
  • SWIRL to release the aromas
  • SNIFF to prepare your palate
  • SIP and enjoy the complexities
  • Spit into a "dump bucket" if you don't want to get inebriated.

The three-city series of tastings began in New Orleans with a packed house of outstanding wines and world-caliber food

  • Mitch Frank

The young couple in the shorts and festival shirts sped into the ballroom of the New Orleans Marriott on a mission. It was the opening night of Wine Spectator ’s 2024 Grand Tour , and 235 of the world’s greatest wineries were pouring wines, all rated 90 points or higher. The pair had come straight from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, having watched Jon Batiste play an amazing set, and now they were eager to cap off a perfect day with an evening of outstanding wines.

After eight hours of sun and music, what would motivate them? “The love of fine wine,” said T. Lopez of New Orleans without hesitation. “There are such amazing wines and amazing producers here.”

A packed ballroom of close to a thousand fellow wine lovers agreed with them. This was the Grand Tour’s first visit to New Orleans, and wine fans from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama,Texas and beyond all flocked to the Marriott on Canal Street to taste old favorites, talk about new discoveries and meet winemakers and fellow consumers.

A packed crowd at the Wine Spectator Grand Tour tasting in New Orleans.

For the winemakers, this was the first of three stops on the Grand Tour, which will head to Las Vegas and Denver in the coming weeks. It was an opportunity to meet serious wine consumers; some of the vintners had been to New Orleans before and loved the city, while others making their first visit were amazed at the deep appetite for great food and wine.

“I can’t believe how much people love and know about wine here,” said Alessandra Angelini, who was representing her family’s two Montalcino wineries, Altesino and Caparzo . Like several other vintners, Angelini had taken the opportunity to enjoy the city for a few extra days. Santiago Achával, of Argentina’s Matervini , made plans to spend the week in town with his wife to celebrate their anniversary.

Katie German, Roger Ross, Kevin Hyde, Jacque Louie, Nate Fuller share a toast at the Wine Spectator Grand Tour in New Orleans.

For attendees, the Grand Tour provided a chance to taste both classic names and outstanding wines they’ve never had before. You could begin with Louis Roederer Brut Champagne Collection 244 NV (93 points) and then pivot to Italian sparkler Ca’ del Bosco Extra Brut Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige NV (91). Just a few tables apart, you could try Sarah Jessica Parker’s Invivo Sauvignon Blanc X 2023 (93) from New Zealand, then sample Quarz, a very different Sauvignon Blanc from Cantina Terlano in Italy’s Alto Adige (93).

There were familiar icons, such as Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Special Selection 2018 (94) and E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis 2019 (95). But you could also find less expected gems including Feudo Montoni Nero d’Avola Sicilia Lagnusa 2021 (91) from Sicily and Bodegas Avancia Godello Valdeorras Old Vines 2021 (92) from Spain.

Maxine Anderson and Chanel Fields chatted with Kristian Jelm about Malbec at the Wine Spectator Grand Tour in New Orleans.

Some producers spotlighted older wines. Tuscany’s Valdicava brought its Brunello di Montalcino 2004 (95). “This is a great event, so we wanted to bring a great wine,” explained co-owner PierFilippo Abbruzzese.

Guests could pair these amazing wines with dishes from some of New Orleans’ most iconic restaurants. Chefs from Brennan’s , Commander’s Palace and Emeril’s , all Wine Spectator Grand Award winners, were preparing small dishes to enjoy.

Brennan’s chef Ryan Hacker, center, and his team at the Wine Spectator Grand Tour in New Orleans.

All too quickly, the evening came to a close. But for passionate fans, the Grand Tour will continue in two more cities this year. The event arrives in Las Vegas at  Resorts World Las Vegas May 4 and then in Denver at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel May 11. Tickets are available at GrandTour.WineSpectator.com .

About The Pete Krebs Trio

Early american & european jazz.

estate wine tour

The Pete Krebs Trio is a string ensemble whose music evokes the early days of jazz, both American and European. Equal parts Nat King Cole Trio and Django Reinhardt, the PK3 draws from many musical traditions in creating the group's sound. From the wet cobblestones of Paris to the heat of Buenos Aires and the smoky brilliance of New York's jazz skyline, the Trio evokes an ambiance equally rooted in the past and the present.

Led by guitarist and singer Pete Krebs, the band features David Langenes on guitar and Keith Brush on upright bass. Pete has been busy member of Portland's musical community for 20 years, playing styles ranging from punk rock to old-time to classic jazz, and has shared the stage with everyone from Nirvana to The Holy Modal Rounders to Patrick Saussois. He is also an in-demand guitar teacher and session player. David Langenes is a jack-of-all-trades master guitarists whose skills and repetoire are rarely matched by mere mortals. Keith Brush on bass is the rock-steady heartbeat of many local musical legends, including the Blue Cranes and Bobby Torres. All three also play with Portland early jazz dynamos The Stolen Sweets, and have recently returned from Europe where the group played a fantastic series of concerts for the culturally-starved folks out that way. Ahem. The PK3 has released their self-titled first CD, which will features originals and the band's signature take on standards both old and new, and will feature guest artists from Portland?s musical aristocracy including Farnell Newton and Lou Chavez (not to mention a cameo by the Stolen Sweets girls!).

Two parents were charged after they left their toddlers in the car to attend a wine tasting at a New Jersey winery, according to law enforcement

John O'Mahoney and Radhika Vyas were charged Thursday with fourth-degree child neglect and cruelty after they ditched the two young children, ages two and three, respectively, the Warren County Prosecutor's Office said.

The incident occurred on Feb. 25 at the Four Sisters Winery in White Township, according to the prosecutor's office. Police were called after O'Mahoney, 43, and Vyas, 37, went in to the winery for a wine tasting session and left the kids in the car.

The two were left unattended in the car for about 20 minutes, the prosecutor's office said. As police were on their way to the winery, the officers were told the car had left after the parents came out. Police found the car in Harmony Township later that day.

The parents of two toddlers are facing charges they left their kids in the car to attend a wine tasting at a Warren County winery, authorities said.

The parents, a 43-year-old man and 37-year-old woman from Phillipsburg, each are charged with fourth-degree child cruelty and neglect.

The incident happened Feb. 25 at the Four Sisters Winery, 783 Route 519, in White Township, authorities said. The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges Monday afternoon following an investigation.

Authorities say the children, ages 2 and 3, were left in the car for about 20 minutes. AccuWeather shows there was a high temperature of 41 degrees and a low temperature of 21 degrees forecast on Feb. 25 at the Lehigh Valley International Airport, just outside Allentown.

While en route to the reported incident, responding officers learned the vehicle left the scene. The car was later found in Harmony Township that same day and the children were not harmed, authorities said.
