We researched the web traffic statistics as measured by SimilarWeb.com and social media audiences as measured by followers on Facebook and Instagram, and subscribers on Youtube. We created a popularity score for 1. Web Traffic and 2. Social Media presence on a scale of 1-3. Total available points: 6. Weighting: 5%

Review Profile

We analysed the public review profiles of each of the travel companies focusing on the major independent 3rd party review platforms like Trustpilot, Tourradar, Stride, Tripadvisor, Feefo and Facebook. We divided our review score into two parts: 1. Size of Review Profile, and 2. Overall Quality of Reviews. Each part was scored on a scale of 1-3. Total available points: 6. Weighting: 80%

Responsible Travel Practices

We reviewed each travel operator's website and read their statements about responsible travel / ethics / sustainability. We then scored each operator on a scale of 1-3. Total available points: 3. Weighting: 5%

Awards and Accreditations

We explored each travel operator's website to uncover evidence of accreditations like ABTA, ATOL, ATTA and AITO (among others), and official awards / recognitions from the travel industry. We then scored each operator on a scale of 1-3. Total available points: 3. Weighting: 5%

Breadth of Offering

We analysed the breadth and scale of each operator's tour offerings, focusing on the number of tours offered, countries covered and number of activities. We then scored each operator on a scale of 1-3. Total available points: 3. Weighting: 5%

We recognise that smaller travel companies would struggle to compete on some of the criteria above.

For example, a small tour operator would most likely have significantly less web traffic and a smaller social presence than a big travel operator. Equally, they would likely have a smaller scale and breadth of offering.

To provide a level playing field, we therefore weighted our overall score heavily towards 3rd party reviews - a criteria that all operators can fairly compete on.

The total review score counts 80% towards the overall score, with the rest of the criteria accounting for 20%.

Trip of a lifetime lived up to expectations!

Just back from a fabulous trip to Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney, Bangkok and Khao Lak. This was our first time in Asia and we were extremely well-guided by Tommy from Trailfinders Newcastle. Fantastic trip

We have just recently returned from 4 weeks in Australia with stop offs in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Andy Boyce, Chester office, was terrific when we had flight cancellations. Our children were planning to travel from Heathrow to Johannesburg when, unbelievably, their flight was cancelled twice. Andy rerouted them on a completely separate itinerary via Dubai and Lusaka. This meant that they were able to join us in time for a 70th birthday celebration. We were regularly updated about what was happening which was very reassuring. Well done to a super travel expert.

Family holiday to Sri Lanka and the Maldives

Our recent trip to Sri Lanka and the Maldives was magical - expertly planned and covered all the things we wanted to see, do and experience. It was a wonderful, well organised trip and our Sri Lankan guide, Wimale from Walkers Tours, was superb. His knowledge was second to none and he chose specific safari guides to give us the very best experience. He was kind, patient and nothing was too much trouble. It made it a relaxing and enjoyable experience for us a family with an anxious traveller and autistic child in the mix. We really feel like we have made lifelong memories and have fallen in love with Sri Lanka and it’s people. Outstanding trip to India

Outstanding trip to India -Golden triangle for one week, 5 days relaxation in South Goa and finally 2 days in Mumbai. 4 adults. It was all thoroughly well organised by Trailfinders and enjoyed by us all. No problems with transfers (there were lots!) or visits. Everything we wanted for our trip of a lifetime. Trip of a lifetime lived up to expectations!

Just back from a fabulous trip to Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney, Bangkok and Khao Lak. This was our first time in Asia and we were extremely well-guided by Tommy from Trailfinders Newcastle. Would never have thought of Singapore which turned out to be the highlight. The flights and transfers were all excellent, as was the accommodation. We'll certainly be back to book again.

Fantastic trip

We have just recently returned from 4 weeks in Australia with stop offs in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Lucy at the Birmingham city centre branch gave us great advice in helping us decide where we wanted to go, suggested and booked a great selection of places to stay and organised our flights, transfers, car hire and day trip to K-Gari. Wonderful customer service

My husband and I have just booked our honeymoon with the help of Lydia Bradbury at Trailfinders in Birmingham. Lydia was absolutely brilliant! Andy Boyce, Chester office, was terrific when we had flight cancellations. Our children were planning to travel from Heathrow to Johannesburg when, unbelievably, their flight was cancelled twice. Andy rerouted them on a completely separate itinerary via Dubai and Lusaka. This meant that they were able to join us in time for a 70th birthday celebration. We were regularly updated about what was happening which was very reassuring. Well done to a super travel expert.

Of course you know about the multitude of famous sightseeing spots in Tokyo, but what you might not be as familiar with are the sites and tastes of this city’s backstreets. On our tours we are passionate about showing you the lesser visited parts of inner Tokyo and nearby areas on two wheels. You will ride along unique old time shopping arcades where local people visit daily and go to religious sites such as Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. Our guide will also take you through a ‘labyrinth’ of narrow pathways around the area allowing you an up close look into the local world of old Tokyo. Additionally, you will have opportunities to taste traditional Japanese foods which are difficult to find elsewhere. We will guide you to small, local restaurants or old style shopping arcade stalls serving cuisine made with local ingredients. This tour is all about seeing and experiencing a side of Tokyo that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to.

At the moment the only thing we are 100% doing is a barrier reef tour when in Palm Cove. Otherwise I'm looking for ideas/suggestions of excursions, trips, things to do, places to see etc while we're in each area - baring in mind we'll have a 5YO with us and the time of year

So far we've found the below but not sure if we've missed anything and what would best given the time of year?

Melbourne - Penguin March, , Melb museum, Sky Deck, Sea life centre, Arthurs Seat sky lift, botanical gardens, Puffing Billy

Sydney - Blue mountains (unsure of best place with child), Taronga Zoo , Opera house & Bridge, Harbour tour, Featherdale wildlife park, Whale watching

Cairns/Palm cove - Barrier reef tour, Kuranda rainforest, Hartley's crocodile adventures

Obviously we wont be able to do everything so any advice or suggestions very welcome?

Currently looking at booking with Trail finders. So far I've heard mostly good things if anyone has experience using them? Only debate at the moment is how much we could save booking everything ourselves Vs the hassle/stress this adds.

In winter it will be very cold while you're watching the penguins, just keep that in mind. I'd recommend spending the day on Phillip Island if you are with your child.

Trailfinders is a reputable company, so if you're happy with the price they're quoting and it's within your budget, go for it. If you want to save some ££, then book flights and accommodation yourselves.
