The Specials 13th/14th/15th November 2014 the Roundhouse London. Great venue, three different nights, and 3 great evenings. The first night I was down the front, skanking to the greatest tunes ever, and enjoying the banter with the band, singing at the top of my voice, and enjoying myself, Terry Hall was on top form tonight, as we were leaving the venue, everyone was singing at the top of their voices. Saturday night the place was buzzing, you could hardly move, so I had to stand at the back, to do my dancing, meet some great people, who for some, it was their first time ever seeing The Specials, and they couldn't believe how brilliant they were live. Terry wasn't so talkive tonight, but the rest of the guys made up for it, Lynval is so funny, it is like his having his own private party everytime. Once again the crowd leave, singing at the top of their voice. Sunday night, and no standing available, so we have to sit upstairs, luckily we have fantastic seats, but we don't sit for long as soon as the music begin, we are up and stomping in our seats, the band are on top form and everyone is singing and dancing, then Terry decides to introduce the band, something that they never do and it is hilarious.... Steve Craddock the new guitarist is brilliant, but I do miss Roddy, as he was a lovely guy, and then its Enjoy yourself and you know that the show is coming to a end, before they finally sing, Your wondering now and, then you know the night is finally over...... once again another sing song on the way out. Next stop the Troxy next Friday.... bring it on.

If you are at all a ska fan, The Specials are a must see. I never saw them back in the original 79-82 period, but have had the pleasure to see them twice in Chicago (96 and 13). In both concerts, they lived up to their expectations and reputation. Minus Jerry Damers, that skank on with original members Terry Hall – vocals, Lynval - guitar/vocals, Sir Horance Panter - bass, and Roddy Radiation – guitar.

The sweep through their recorded catalog with favorites such as ‘Concrete Jungle’, ‘Nite Klub’, ‘Do the Dog’, ‘Monkey Man’, ‘Enjoy Yourself, ‘A Message to You, Rudy’ and many more like “Ghost Town, ‘A Little Bit of Me’, ‘Rat Race’ and many more. The band transports you back to heyday of Two Tone record label and tours. Personally I am glued to Roddy Radiation. This guy slings his guitar reckless abandon flailing about the stage the whole set. Singer Terry Hall seems to be the only one on stage grounded and holding the mayhem together with his apathetic attitude and cockiness.

Expect the crowd frenzy of slam dancing, crowd surfing and being soaking wet with sweat.

This band is a true blend of punk and ska. Well worth every penny spend on your hard-earned ticket.

Returning to the stage after a particularly long hiatus, neither the brilliance of The Specials’ music nor the force of its ever present political messages have dimmed even a little. Founders of the hugely influential 2 Tone new wave / ska punk movement of the late Seventies, The Specials were the kind of band who could take a song about a topic as dour as recession-hit Britain under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher ("Ghost Town") all the way to the top of the charts, owing to their absolute mastery of a melodic hook – practically unthinkable material for a ‘big hit’ in the modern age. While it’s common to see a crowd of old mods, teddy boys and skinheads at Specials gig these days, the violence associated with those scenes has long been left behind – everyone, their kids included, is here for a party. The Specials duly provide the soundtrack, a suited up Terry Hall leading his dapper band through racy versions of "Concrete Jungle," "A Message To You Rudy" and "Gangsters" that have everyone skanking in unison. As much fun as the crowd are having, it’s most pleasing to see that, after such a long break, The Specials themselves look to be enjoying it more than anyone.

The show was great, they played hit after hit. I saw them at the Danforth 2 yrs ago and I went to celebrate their 40th anniversary. Like many of the bands I like, b52s, omd having their 40th soon. I love the new wave bands and now they are coming back for their last kick at the can. I am enjoying going back down memory lane. I have tickets to nick murphy/ beacons show and then the b52s omd show after. I am still waiting for crystal fighters to get their butts over here to see them.

back to the specials concert. During the opening act 3 females sitting in front of me decided they did not like opening act and were texting and showing pics to each other during the whole show. I was distracted by the white light glowing while they texted and told them to stop flashing the phone in front of me..they were jerks and kept their phones on the whole time. Its one thing to take pics but to text and chat during the whole show is distracting and should not happen. They were not in the moment and ruined the opening act for me. message to all you phone users ..Turn them off and enjoy the show, people come to see the show not your pics and phone's light...grrrrr

I saw the Specials at the Danforth last night and really enjoyed every moment. Opening with Ghost town set the mood for the night. So many grey haired fans. I am 60 and it was good to not be the oldest there..It was great to see so many people drop their canes and start dancing and singing along to most songs.hehehe. It took me back to when the songs came out. The Danforth is great for seeing bands at an inexpensive cost. The Specials were worth seeing live for sure. I buy the music, tshirts and go to see bands that I like..we have to support these bands any way we can..music brings joy to most humans.. I have tickets for Gary Clark Jr. next week and Future Islands and the Pyschedelic Furs in Oct. I have been seeing concerts since the early 70's Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ZZ top etc. and I am open to many types of music.

I am hoping les Amazones D'Afrique or Crystal fighters are reading this and come to Toronto soon.

MUSIC KEEPS ME ALIVE...THATS WHY I AM STILLATIT

Brilliant from start to finish played all the old classics plus a selection from the recent encore album. Terry was his usual melancholy self, but I presume he enjoyed the gig has there were two encores finishing off with your wondering now. Great atmosphere especially for the final six songs which were real stompers starting with nite club & finishing off with too much too young

Great venue, support act Tut had superb attitude and good songs hope they do well

The Specials what can I say apert from an extremely long wait for them to come on stage they didn't disappoint when they did going through all the favourite songs and some new stuff

Spectacular performance and so glad I saw them, another one ticked off the list.

Fantastic night. Terry Hall looking and singing as cool as ever. Brilliant set and the crowd participated well. Can't fault it - great night all round.

Staff were as good natured as the crowd - and I met Kyle from the View (love the View) who graced me with a photo.

Rude Boys rocked the house!! Hope they are back soon!!

Saw The Specials at Music Tastes Good in Long Beach and they were awesome! Waited 35 years to see the bands (minus a few originals) but Terry, Lynval, and Horace still bring the party. So glad they had an LA concert and gave a middle aged "rude boy" a chance to see this iconic group.

The Specials played at the House of Blues in San Diego last night and what a great show it was. It was energetic and fun. They played all their classics and had everyone in the venue singing and dancing. I would definitely see this band, if they come around again.

ABOUT LIZZO

A 3x GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter, rapper, actress, and so much more, Lizzo has shifted the sound, soul, and spirit of popular music and culture. 2019’s now-classic, RIAA platinum certified debut album,  CUZ I LOVE YOU , bowed at #4 on the Billboard 200, fueled in part by such history-making hits as the platinum certified “Tempo (Feat. Missy Elliott),” the 2x platinum “Juice,” the 4x platinum “Good As Hell,” and the 7x platinum “Truth Hurts.” The latter of which ascended to #1 on  Billboard ’s “Hot 100,” affirming Lizzo as only the third female rapper to top the chart without a featured artist, as well as the first black solo female R&B singer to claim the top spot since 2012. “Truth Hurts” dominated the chart for seven weeks, further making history as the longest running #1 by a solo female rap artist ever. Named by Rolling Stone as one of the “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time,” “Truth Hurts” went on to earn a 2020 GRAMMY® Award for “Best Pop Solo Performance,” with  CUZ I LOVE YOU (DELUXE)  receiving that year’s GRAMMY® for “Best Urban Contemporary Album” and “Jerome” earning “Best Traditional R&B Performance.”

Crowned 2019’s “Entertainer of the Year” by both  TIME  and  Entertainment Weekly , Lizzo has adorned the covers of countless publications around the globe, spanning  Rolling Stone ,  Billboard ,  Elle ,  British Vogue , and many more. Among her many unforgettable TV appearances, Lizzo has lit up the stage at the American Music Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, the BET Awards,  Saturday Night Live , and an epic opening performance at the GRAMMYs, to name just a few. Expanding her imprint and influence across media, Lizzo lent her voice to the 2019 animated film, UglyDolls , and joined Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, and Cardi B in the all-star cast of that same year’s critically acclaimed  Hustlers .

Lizzo maintained this unstoppable momentum on 2021’s RIAA gold certified “ Rumors (Feat. Cardi B) ” and is now set to create her biggest, boldest, and brightest revolution thus far with her massively anticipated second full-length offering  SPECIAL  for Nice Life Recording Company/Atlantic Records, due July 15 th .

Choose how you want to receive communication for all tour updates including merchandise offers, new dates and exclusive content.

The Ensouled World Tour (which commences after Ensoulment is released on 6th September) will not have a support act, but instead be comprised of two sets, with an intermission in between.

Set one will be the new album, ensoulment , in its entirety. set two will be a retrospective set of the the classics*.

* Our concert in Dublin is the only date listed below where we DO have a support act, the brilliant A Lazarus Soul ! As such, we will be performing a single set rather than two but one that features songs from the new album rather than the new album in entirety.

Please see below a complete list of all tickets now available to purchase.

In the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, we have once again partnered with Twickets so that you can buy / sell spare tickets at the price they were meant to be sold for, protecting both buyers and sellers from fraud and overpricing. So if a show is SOLD OUT and you are looking for tickets, or if you can no longer attend one of our concerts, see our official Twickets page HERE .

In the USA and Canada, we also want to give our supporters, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value. To help protect the Exchange, THE THE has also chosen to make tickets for this tour mobile only and restricted from transfer.* Please note, a valid bank account or debit card within the country of your event is required to sell on the Face Value Exchange.

*New York, Illinois, Colorado, Virginia and Connecticut have passed state laws requiring unlimited ticket resale and limiting artists’ ability to determine how their tickets are resold. Lynval Golding

the specials tour dates

The Specials are back with ten songs on a brand new album. Influential, important and exhilarating live, they are a band embedded in this country's DNA. It is impossible to envisage the musical landscape without them, from the startling, angular Gangsters in 1979 to their swan song, the epoch-making Ghost Town in 1981. They infused ska with punk, homegrown political anxiety with wider issues. The Specials' ascendancy was swift. Two years, seven hit singles including two number ones, two hit albums, sell-out tours – the mass stage-invasions and audience energy only adding to the myth. They were everywhere; on Top of the Pops, Radio One, nightclubs and school discos. At the time, the nation could not have seemed more polarised: far right youth cults, violence on the streets, conservative government. Their demise, however, was rapid.

April 1981. The Specials spend ten days recording Ghost Town in an 8-track home studio in Leamington Spa. The song spends three weeks at number one in July 1981 culminating in a Top of The Pops appearance 9th July 1981. In the dressing room afterwards the band split. In retrospect, maybe a signifier of how weird those times were is the fact that they are introduced on screen by both Jimmy Savile, and a nervy Adam Ant.

This line up of the Specials would never go in the studio again. "We did More Specials, the second album," says Lynval. "And oh God, someone left the band every day, the band would fall apart, then the next day they would rejoin again."

In 2009, with Britain in another recession, the Specials reform to play live - without founding member Jerry Dammers who clashes with the others during initial rehearsals. Terry Hall, Lynval Golding, Horace Panter, John Bradbury, Neville Staple and Roddy "Radiation" Byers play a sell-out tour and the offers keep coming.

"There was never a long term plan," says Horace, the Special's extremely grounded, polite bassist. "But before we knew it, it was 2012. Then Neville quit, out of ill health, Roddy quit thank goodness, so four of us were left, all facing in the right direction, all in agreement.

"Towards the end of 2015 Lynval, Brad and I got together in a little rehearsal room and we recorded some demos on a handheld mic," continues Horace. "Then of course Brad dies [in December 2015, of a heart attack]. It took a year or so to pick ourselves back up again."

But eventually they do, and they record.

Ten songs – originals and some covers. Encore.

And it's fucking great – acknowledging the last forty years, taking what the Specials did and moving it forward. And you can dance to it. Produced by original members Terry Hall, Lynval Golding and Horace Panter – alongside long-time Specials keyboardist Nikolaj Torp Larsen.

"With the Specials first time round, it was very much Jerry's thing," adds Horace. "Y ou play this, you play that . Whereas this time around, the whole process was really joyous. Nobody was out of their heads, nobody had another agenda – we all wanted to make this great record."

"Nikolaj is like the fourth member of the band," says Lynval, by nature an extremely enthusiastic person. "He is an amazing keyboard player, arranger, producer… he's a godsend. Working with him was a blessing, we couldn't have done it without him."

The irony of course is that forty years ago the Specials embodied the state of the nation – seven voices as one from a typically dispossessed UK town. Now, in 2018, we have had a conservative government in office, recession and "austerity" measures which have dealt a direct hit at the vulnerable. Much has become full circle. "Scary isn't it?" says Horace. "We don't have to preach at all – although I don't think we ever did anyway. The songs are  relevant  – but then I always say injustice is timeless."

The Specials

The genius of the Specials is that they are still observers, not commentators. The genius of the Specials is that they know what pop music is. The first track Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys – a cover of the Equals 1973 song - sounds like the Specials, but with '70s disco and funk thrown in. We start on an up .

"The Equals were the first British multiracial band," says singer Terry Hall, over a cup of coffee. "A lot of people think it's the Specials, and it's not so this is a tribute to them. People say to us, ' When we saw the Specials we saw that black and white is all right,' but me and Lynval thought that about the Equals."

Track two is Lynval's song. BLM (Black Lives Matter) is a sock to the jaw. From his father's arrival in the UK from Jamaica on the Windrush, to Lynval's own - arriving in Gloucester via Southampton in 1964. Systemic racism surrounds this song, taut like wire, as Lynval simply narrates his story.

"The signs keep saying the same thing/'No dogs, no Irish, no blacks'… Welcome to England."

"My father was from the generation who came to England on the Windrush to rebuild England after the Second World War," says Lynval. "That's the story we heard, usually late on a Friday night after my father came home from the pub. 'You don't know what I had to go through…' When he came to England at first he couldn't find anywhere to sleep – he had to sleep in a garage in Gloucester."

The song continues with Lynval's own experiences of being called a "black bastard" and a "goddam nigger". It's extremely powerful, and heartbreaking.

"Lynval is not saying it's right or wrong, there's no polemic, it's just his story," says Horace.

The genius of the Specials is that they don't do finger-wagging. "One thing we talked about before we started recording – how do we address these subjects that bug us?" says Terry. "We can't scream and shout about it anymore because we're a lot older – there'd be very little dignity left and it would be hypocritical too."

Vote for Me uses Jamaican rhythm and straight lyrics to nail essentially global, nameless corruption – with echoes of Ghost Town. "If you vote for me do you promise/To be upright, decent and honest/To have our best interests at heart?"

"It's about the idea of voting – can you be bothered? And if you are bothered, what are you voting for?" says Terry. "I can't get my head round Trump as an American president – or Theresa May dancing to Abba as everything crumbles around her. It's just nuts." The song is followed by a cover of the Fun Boy Three hit, The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum .

"This was originally going to be the follow up to Ghost Town," says Lynval. "But because of the pressures and the eternal problems we had within the Specials we had to do it as Fun Boy Three. It was really great to revisit it. The intro is that wonderful keyboard by Nikolaj, which goes absolutely berserk at the end. It's classic Specials."

The clipped, percussive original of 1981 has been given more of a Latin treatment. It's wonderful. The lyrics still pull no punches decades later. "Go nuclear the cowboy told us/And who am I to disagree."

"That's how it feels and very little has changed," says Terry. "That was written in the Reagan era, where you think that world politics can't get any worse. But now it is worse… surreal worse."

the specials tour dates

Breaking Point deals with the Internet, technology and social media – while the music is pure Weimar Germany, with a touch of Jacques Brel.

"That sort of music is what I listen to," says Terry. "Breaking point is how I feel every day. When I open my door I want to shut it again. I find it really hard to go out; you're playing zig zag with people on their phones. It's got to that stage now where our brains can't deal with technology anymore."

Blam Blam Fever by the Valentines, released in 1967 on Trojan, muses on gun culture.

"Horace brought this song in," says Terry. "We all thought we knew Trojan but we didn't know this." It suits the Specials perfectly.

"This fits in, especially in America," says Lynval, who now lives in Seattle. "People's attitudes are – if you don't have a gun how are you going to defend yourself? Something's wrong, you're not normal. Well, wait a minute – I think I'm normal because I don't want to shoot anyone."

The Ten Commandments is an answer song, a response to Prince Buster's Ten Commandments of Man (1965) which is essentially a list instructing a woman to be a supplicant to Prince Buster's ego. Now it's an all-out fuck-you, kick-ass glorious Ten Commandments addressing rape culture, misogyny , self-worth and alt-right "pseudo-intellectuals on the internet" with 20-year-old Saffiyah Khan. Saffiyah was photographed in 2017 squaring up to a member of the EDL, with the most incredible beatific smile on her face, at an anti-racist march in Birmingham. She was wearing a Specials t-shirt. The band saw the photo and got in touch.

Musically it up-ends Dawn Penn's No No No and transforms it into a paean for much that needs to change. Although it was the first time Saffiyah had been in a recording studio, it sounds like her second home.

"I found it difficult to write at first," says Saffiyah. "Then it all came together just before we went into the studio. I've never done music before and I didn't know what to expect, but they said 'Trust us, leave it with us ,' and they mixed it really well."

"She was so shocked to be asked," says Lynval of Saffiyah. "But the way she puts it across – she's young, she has that energy. She's wonderful."

"They cover topics on that album with spoken word pieces," adds Saffiyah. "For this track we wanted to get something between Prince Buster, Sleaford Mods and The Fall - so I immersed myself in it… And of course mine is from a woman's point of view."

Embarrassed By You is co-written by Mark Adams, whom Lynval originally met while visiting E rnesford G range school in C oventry .

"When we were known, on Top of the Pops and that sort of thing, I used to go round schools to talk to the kids about music," says Lynval. "I met Mark Adams when he was 12. I also met his parents and they said, 'He loves music!' s o I said, 'Let him stick with me' . And he became a friend, we've worked together musically over the years [Mark Adams played keyboards with the band in the 90s]. He started it off and then Terry wrote rest of the lyrics. It's about being embarrassed by your peer group, robbing, stabbing… saying just sort yourself out ."

Life and Times of a Man called Depression is almost a prequel to Breaking Point. A Terry song, spoken word, rather autobiographical.

"One thing I wanted to address was the ups and downs of my head, really," says Hall. "It's me looking back to when I first got properly diagnosed [with bipolar] 11 years ago, looking at that person and seeing how I've changed and how it's now mostly under control, whereas all those years ago it wasn't. It's important, if you've got a voice and people may listen to this, maybe they will understand it a bit more, how you feel – how it all feels, really."

The album ends with the glorious We Sell Hope . In recent years the live show encore was All the Time in the World, dedicated to drummer John Bradbury. This is similar and is bittersweet both musically and lyrically. " Looked all around the world, it'd be a beautiful place to live in."

"If you look at what the lyrics are saying," says Terry. "It's to be good to each other, because on a basic level, that's all you can do. Treat other people with respect and kindness."

The music is exquisite .

The Specials

"We are very fortunate to have surrounded ourselves with excellent musicians," says Horace. "We're so lucky to have Steve Cradock on guitar, and also Kenrick Rowe on drums. They both make those songs sound fantastic – and Tim Smart, who plays trombone and has been with us since 2009. They're not just great songs, they're played by these amazing musicians."

The genius of the Specials is their innate understanding. The skill of re-contextualising what has gone before – from Monkey Man to Blam Blam Fever – and writing new songs that fuse this heritage with all that is current. Throughout the decades the Specials' influence has never gone away. And we need it.

"I'm aware our work has been out there for forty years and I'm so grateful for what we've done, I pinch myself sometimes," says Lynval. "I can pat myself on the back now, and say ' Well done,' because that what my father says to me. As a band, making this record, it was the closest we'd ever been."

"That's the thing with the Specials," says Horace. "We are three very different people, but you put us together and we become the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world, as far as I'm concerned. Something remarkable happens."

A scene from the West End production of Moulin Rouge! the Musical

Moulin Rouge! the Musical is preparing itself for a world tour in 2025 – and a third UK stop has been revealed.

The hit show is based on the much-loved turn-of-the-century film about a Parisian courtesan who falls in love with a writer. It starred Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman. At the 74th Academy Awards, it was nominated for eight Oscars, winning two.

The new production will launch in the UK and travel internationally, opening first at Edinburgh Playhouse (25 April to 14 June 2025) and then heading to Bristol Hippodrome (26 June to 9 August 2025).

It has now been confirmed that the show will run at Manchester Palace Theatre from 20 August to 4 October 2025, with tickets on sale soon. The West End staging will simultaneously continue its run at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Directed by Alex Timbers, Moulin Rouge! the Musical has a book by John Logan, choreography by Sonya Tayeh, and music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Justin Levine. The design team includes Derek McLane (sets), Catherine Zuber (costumes), Justin Townsend (lighting), Peter Hylenski (sound), David Brian Brown (wig and hair design), and Sarah Cimino (make-up design). Casting is by Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher.

Tickets for the West End production and for the Edinburgh run are on sale below.

Iron Maiden announce world tour in 2025 - how to get tickets and pre-sale

"next year is a very special one for iron maiden and we’re going to be giving our fans a once-in-a-lifetime live experience.".

the specials tour dates

Metal legends Iron Maiden have announced their new world tour for 2025 - including a stop in Manchester. The band promise a "once in a lifetime experience" with the special anniversary shows.

The Run for Your Lives World Tour will begin on May 27 next year in Budapest followed by 27 stadium, festival and arena shows around Europe. The tour marks 50 years since Steve Harris formed the band in late 1975 and, to celebrate this, Maiden fans are promised a very special set list, spanning the nine studio albums from ‘Iron Maiden’ to ‘Fear Of The Dark’, with their most spectacular and elaborate show ever.

The tour will see five nights in the UK and Ireland, including a stop off at Manchester's Co-op Live on June 22, 2025. Tickets for all dates will go on sale next week .

Lead singer Bruce Dickinson says: "Next year is a very special one for Iron Maiden and we’re going to be giving our fans a once-in-a-lifetime live experience. This is a tour that’s gonna put a smile on your face and a cheer in your throat.

"If you’ve seen us before, then get ready to take that experience to a whole new level. If you’ve never seen us before, then what the hell have you been waiting for? Now’s your chance to find out what you’ve been missing!"

The tour includes five shows in the UK and Ireland, with arenas in Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, and outdoor shows in Dublin and London. They say it is with immense pride that Iron Maiden will celebrate their 50th Anniversary with one of the most notable concerts in their history.

On Saturday June 28, the band will perform at the London Stadium, home of West Ham Football Club – the team that band founder Steve Harris has supported throughout his life, and with whom Iron Maiden have a long and storied history.

This concert in front of over 60,000 fans at the London Stadium, which was constructed in Stratford for the 2012 Olympics and four years later became the new home of West Ham, will be the first time that Iron Maiden have performed on the club’s hallowed turf.

A true homecoming show – with Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith & Nicko McBrain all born in the surrounding area – it will also be the biggest UK venue the band have ever headlined outside of their festival appearances

the specials tour dates

Steve Harris says: “My love of football and my support of West Ham is no secret, and I know many of our fans around the world have shared that with me too. So we’re all very excited to be playing at the London Stadium as part of the RUN FOR YOUR LIVES tour. And of course, it’s not just London – the whole UK tour is going to be a real celebration for all of us. To be able to bring this very special show to all our fans across the UK and Ireland next year is going to be a great way to mark 50 years of Iron Maiden. We can’t wait to see you all there!”

Special Guests for the London & Dublin outdoor shows will be American rockers Halestorm. British metal band, The Raven Age, will open all five UK & Ireland shows.

Manager Rod Smallwood adds, “50 years of Maiden and I have seen 46 of them! With well over 100 million albums sold and almost 2500 shows in 64 countries and counting, to countless millions of fans, we are all still loving every second and consider every tour a new challenge to bring something different and exciting to our fans. And for this very special one we’ re pulling out all the stops.

"We will cover classics and fan favourites from the first nine albums, from IRON MAIDEN to FEAR OF THE DARK, many of which we haven’t played in years and many we will likely never play again in the future. We have already been hard at work for months putting together an even more spectacular and elaborate new show which will bring the songs to life more than we have ever been able to do before."
