Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy to Lead David Bowie Tribute Tour Alongside Guitarist Adrian Belew

The Bauhaus reunion tour of 2022 may have imploded after a mere 13 shows, but frontman Peter Murphy will be back on the road in October to front the Celebrating David Bowie tour alongside guitarist Adrian Belew, Spacehog’s Royston Langdon, a Perfect Circle bassist Matt McJunkins, guitarist Scrote, Devo/A Perfect Circle drummer Jeff Friedl, saxophonist Ron Dziubla and guitarist Eric Schermerhorn. It kicks off on October 10 in Tacoma, Washington and wraps up on November 22 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

“Such a surprise to be invited to celebrate Bowie in this outing, and alongside a great lineup,” Murphy said in a statement. “So enticing to play the part.”

Belew played guitar on Bowie’s 1979 LP Lodger along with the 1978 Isolar II Tour and 1990 Sound + Vision tour. Eric Schermerhorn, meanwhile, was a guitarist and background vocalist on Bowie’s 1991 tour with Tin Machine. The other artists don’t have a direct connection to Bowie, but Murphy and Bauhaus covered “Ziggy Stardust” on a 1982 single, turning it into a hit for another generation

With Adrian Belew, the tuneful tenor gleefully singing Bowie favorites while delivering the otherworldly guitar playing he is revered for.”

Peter Murphy joins “Celebrating David Bowie” tour for 26-date U.S. run this spring

Peter Murphy will resurface this spring for the first time since Bauhaus’s reunion tour imploded last summer when he joins the “Celebrating David Bowie” tour alongside guitarist Adrian Belew and members of Spacehog and A Perfect Circle to perform the Thin White Duke’s music.

The tour will find the assembled musicians spotlighting David Bowie’s greatest hits with a heavy focus on Ziggy Stardust , the Berlin trilogy — Low, “Heroes” and Lodger — and “his later Trent Reznor-infused years.”

Murphy and Belew — who has played with both Bowie and Nine Inch Nails — will be joined by guitarist Scrote, Spacehog frontman Royston Langdon, A Perfect Circle members Matt McJunkins (bass) and Jeff Friedl (drums), saxophonist Ron Dziubla and guitarist Eric Schermerhorn, who played with Bowie’s Tin Machine.

“Such a surprise to be invited to celebrate Bowie in this outing, and alongside a great line up,” Murphy said in a statement released by the tour’s organizers. “So enticing to play the part.”

The tour — sandwiched between Belew’s dates playing Talking Heads songs with Jerry Harrison — will open April 5 in Houston, Texas, and run through May 8 in Tacoma, Washington. Tickets for nearly all of the shows go on sale at noon local time Friday, Feb. 24. Murphy had been touring with the reunited Bauhaus last year, a trek interrupted by the pandemic that ultimately unraveled when the frontman entered rehab in late August . The other members of Bauhaus have since agreed to reform as Love and Rockets and will play the Cruel World festival in May .

Peter Murphy of Bauhaus was scheduled to front a David Bowie tribute tour organized by Adrian Belew. The tour was set to kick off in a few weeks. However, Peter Murphy has re-scheduled the tour for Fall.

His representatives released a statement: "CELEBRATING DAVID BOWIE TOUR WITH PETER MURPHY RESCHEDULED OCTOBER / NOVEMBER WITH ADDITIONAL APPEARANCES ADDED Celebrating David Bowie has announced that the U.S. tour has been rescheduled to October and November 2023. Singer Peter Murphy has undergone an unexpec"ted medical procedure that prohibits his ability to travel as planned. He is recovering well, will fully recover, and be ready to tour the US with the group this Fall. Initial reconfirmed dates are presented below. The tour producers are diligently exploring all options to stage performances in the cities that have been on-sale, alongside adding other markets due to popular demand. All tickets will be honored on the rescheduled date. "

Peter Murphy to Perform David Bowie Tribute Concert

One more show has been added to close out Peter Murphy’s  highly anticipated and thrice delayed two-week San Francisco residency, where former  Bauhaus  vocalist will perform his solo albums in their entirety, plus three “Mr. Moonlight” sets of Bauhaus music.

The final show, which has been  just been announced will see the gothic rock progenitor honoring the Thin White Duke himself,  by performing select songs from the catalog of the music legend.

Says Peter of the show:

“ Now that all and sundry have fallen off the David Bowie tribute band wagon, I thought I’d do my own .”

Murphy, who is no stranger to the work of Bowie, had cemented the comparisons between himself and his band Bauhaus by covering Ziggy Stardust for a single release on October 5th, 1982.

The single release featured on its sleeve the band’s usage of the Bauhaus art school logo combined with Bowie’s Aladdin Sane Lightning Bolt. It is interesting to note that the Art Museum, Martin Gropius Bau, in Berlin named after Architect Martin Gropius, hosted a David Bowie exhibition in 2014. Martin Gropius was the great-uncle of architect and Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius.

Bowie is still celebrated for his “residency” in the city, where he completed his Berlin trilogy of albums, Low, Heroes, and Lodger.

After leaving Berlin, Bowie would then adopt a new-wave persona for his next LP Scary Monsters, and appeared on Saturday Night Live wearing a Bauhaus art inspired inspired Tuxedo along with German singer Klaus Nomi.

In 1983, Bauhaus the band would share the screen with David Bowie in the Tony Scott Film The Hunger,  performing their debut single Bela Lugosi’s Dead at the infamous nightclub Heaven, while Bowie and Catherine Deneuve hunt for victims—one of which was played by actress Anne Magnuson (a close friend of Klaus Nomi and a integral part of the New York post-punk scene).

Peter Murphy and bassist David J are currently on their US leg of their world tour, celebrating  Bauhaus’ 40th anniversary by performing the band’s debut LP In The Flat Field in its entirety.

After the close of the tour, Murphy begins his two-week residency in San Francisco, where the Bowie Tribute concert is scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, 2019  at San Francisco’s  The Chapel .

Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy postpones David Bowie tribute tour following “unexpected medical procedure”

The unspecified procedure “prohibits his ability to travel as planned” but “he is recovering well”

Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy has announced the postponement of his upcoming David Bowie tribute tour with guitarist Adrian Belew.

Murphy’s team took to social media to announce that the ‘Celebrating David Bowie’ shows – originally announced for April – are being pushed back to October and November after the singer had to undergo an “unexpected medical procedure”. While details surrounding the procedure remain unknown, his team said that it “prohibits his ability to travel as planned”.

Peter Murphy is reportedly “recovering well, will fully recover, and be ready to tour the US with the group this Fall.”

A list of rescheduled tour dates and newly announced shows was also revealed. Check out the current list of tour dates below. Tickets that have already been purchased for Murphy’s original April tour will now be honoured at the rescheduled shows.

Spacehog’ s Royston Langdon,  A Perfect Circle  bassist Matt McJunkins, guitarist Scrote,  Devo /A Perfect Circle drummer Jeff Friedl, saxophonist Ron Dziubla, and guitarist Eric Schermerhorn will also play in the touring group.

‘Celebrating David Bowie’, which is spearheaded by Scrote, has been an ongoing project since 2017  and was fronted last year by Todd Rundgren .

Bauhaus' Peter Murphy To Front David Bowie Tribute Tour

Bauhaus vocalist Peter Murphy will front a forthcoming David Bowie tribute tour.

"The Celebrating David Bowie Tour" lineup also features guitarist Adrian Belew , a Perfect Circle bassist Matt McJunkins , Spacehog 's Royston Langdon , guitarist Scrote , Devo drummer Jeff Friedl , saxophonist Ron Dziubla and guitarist Eric Schermerhorn .

The tour, produced by Miles Copeland , will feature Bowie's greatest hits with a special emphasis on his Ziggy Stardust era, Berlin trilogy records (Low, Heroes, and Lodger), and his later Trent Reznor infused years.

26 U.S. Shows are scheduled to take place during April-May 2023. The tour will kick off on April 4 in Houston, Texas.

Bauhaus' singer will be back on stage!

Yesterday we told you about this possible upcoming tour and fortunately it has been confirmed!

Celebrating David Bowie featuring Peter Murphy , former Bowie Music Director Adrian Belew , Scrote , Spacehog’s Royston Langdon , Guitarist Eric Schermerhorn , Sax great Ron Dziubla , Bassist Matt McJunkins , and Drummer Jeff Friedl , is coming to the Tobin Center on Sunday, April 30 in San Antonio, TX!

Although there is not an official press release from Murphy’s office yet regarding the Celebrating David Bowie tour, his instagram account did mention “ announcement soon ” which kind of make it official… at least that’s what we all hope! And luckily for us in Texas, the tour includes a few cities in our state being Houston on April 05, Grand Prairie on April 28 and San Antonio on April 30. 

After lots of fans got a little disappointed when Bauhau’s had to cancel the remaining part of their tour in 2022, this news does bring happiness to all of them and what better way to see him singing David Bowies’ song together with Adrian Belew , Bowies’ guitarist.

“ Such a surprise to be invited to celebrate Bowie in this outing, and alongside a great lineup ,” Murphy said in a previous statement. “ So enticing to play the part .”

This tour had previously stoped in the US, Europe, UK, Australia, Japan, Canada, Mexico, South America and Iceland including sold out shows at venues such as the Sydney Opera House  in the round and Brixton Academy  in London.

Some special guests that have been part of this celebration in the past include big names such as  Sting , Gary Oldman ,  Joe Bonamassa ,  Todd Rundgren ,  Gavin Rossdale  (Bush),  Joe Elliott  (Def Leppard),  Bernard Fanning  (Powderfinger),  Simon Le Bon   (Duran Duran) among others.

Peter Murphy From Bauhaus Leads David Bowie Tribute Alongside Guitarist Adrian Belew

Bauhaus singer, Peter Murphy has been announced as the next David Bowie tribute artist and will lead the David Bowie tribute tour including former King Crimson band member, Adrian Belew. Both of them will front the 2023 Celebrating David Bowie tour in North America. Joining members of this tour will include Spacehog’s Royston Langdon, A Perfect Circle bassist, Matt Mcjunkins, guitarist Scrote, Devo/A Perfect Circle drummer, Jeff Friedl, saxophonist Ron Dziubla and guitarist Eric Schermerhorn.

The David Bowie tribute tour will commence on April 4 in Houston, Texas and will conclude on May 8 in Tacoma, Washington, US. Tickets will be available for purchase here . Speaking of honour and gratitude, Murphy said in a statement , “Such a surprise to be invited to celebrate Bowie in this outing, and alongside a great lineup. So enticing to play the part.” 

Scrote acts as the main leader behind Celebrating David Bowie which has been an ongoing project since 2017 and Todd Rundgren was placed on the spot as the frontman last year. Scrote said in a statement , “I’m thrilled to honour David again with this new explosive collection of truly unique and brilliant artists and musicians. This new show represents two sides of Bowie. With Peter Murphy, we have the dark baritone shrouded in mystery and wonder. With Adrian Belew, the tuneful tenor gleefully singing Bowie’s favourites while delivering the otherworldly guitar playing he is revered for.”

A statement released by the press via Rolling Stone announced that the 2023 edition will “interpret Bowie’s greatest hits” a specialist greatly emphasising Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust proto-punk era, including his Berlin trilogy records, “ Low”, “Heroes”, and “Lodger” and his later infused years, inspired by Trent Reznor.

Belew was the guitarist for Bowie’s 1979 album, Lodger and was a session musician on the late singer’s 1978 Isolar II tour and 1990 Sound+Vision tour. Eric Schermerhorn accompanied Bowie’s 1991 tour (along with Tin Machine) as vocalist and guitarist.

Last year, Murphy has been touring with the reunited Bauhaus but unfortunately, the pandemic hit which resulted in an ultimate unravelling when the frontman entered rehab late August. The other band members agreed since then to reform as Love and Rockets and will play at the Cruel World festival this coming May.

Peter Murphy Pushes Back David Bowie Tribute Tour Due to Medical Procedure

The "Celebrating David Bowie" tour now launches in the fall

The 2023 installment of the “Celebrating David Bowie” tour has been rescheduled after vocalist Peter Murphy underwent an “an unexpected medical procedure.”

An announcement on Murphy’s Instagram confirmed that the Bauhaus frontman’s recent unspecified procedure “prohibits his ability to travel as planned” but “he is recovering well, will fully recover, and be ready to tour the US with the group this Fall.” The post also listed several “initial” dates that had been moved to October and November, while also noting that all tickets purchased for the previously announced shows will be honored at their new corresponding date.

The revised run now kicks off in Tacoma, Washington on October 10th and concludes in Cincinnati on November 22nd. The updated itinerary also suggests the singer will be returning even stronger with more cities, including Chicago, added to the ensemble’s tour stops. Check out the full live stretch below.

Tickets for the new “Celebrating David Bowie” tour dates will go on sale Friday, April 14th via Ticketmaster .

Once on the road, Murphy will be joined by an elite Bowie tribute band led by the tour’s brainchild, Angelo “Scorte” Bundini, and featuring Adrian Belew (King Crimson), Royston Langdon (Spacehog), Matt McJunkins (A Perfect Circle), Jeff Friedl (Devo, A Perfect Circle), Ron Dziubla, and Eric Schermerhorn. The tour will on Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust proto punk era, his Berlin trilogy records ( Low , Heroes , and Lodger ), and his later Trent Reznor infused years.”
