Journey - Review

There and back again.

When IGN first reviewed Journey on PlayStation 3 back in 2012 , we gave it score of 9.0, for “Amazing.” Here’s what we said then :

“Journey celebrates the poignancy of nature, it startles you with the unexpected, and empowers you in an exhilarating, unforgettable conclusion. The hours spent completing Journey will create memories that last for years.”

Over three years after its original release, Journey on PlayStation 4 proves to be every bit as remarkable as it was when IGN awarded it Game of the Year for 2012. While the increase to 1080p and 60fps is definitely appreciated, what really shines here is the same concise, emotional, and gorgeous adventure that originally wowed us.

Developer Thatgamecompany took the beauty of Flow and the meditative gameplay of Flower, and added an immense sense of scale in its third and most impressive game. In the length of a standard movie, Journey is able to consistently make me feel emotion in a way that few games ever have.

At just over two hours long, Journey delivers an adventure that runs the gamut of human emotions. The awe that comes from cresting your first hill and spotting the mountain on the horizon is paired expertly with the fear that stems from exploring the ancient caverns beneath your destination. The playful curiosity of stumbling across a fellow traveler – another player having their own experience – and wordlessly cooperating with them to explore this world is only strengthened by the isolation and desperation that awaits near the mountain's frozen summit.

Without spoiling the ending, the visual and emotional catharsis that exists at the top of that mountain makes playing Journey a powerful circle that I want to constantly revisit.

The Verdict

Whether you’re playing it for the first time, or revisiting it after three years, Journey remains one of the most powerful games in recent memory. With strong environmental storytelling, powerful music, and an emotional ending, it is absolutely a classic of the modern adventure genre. If you missed it on PS3, do yourself a favor and experience it on PS4. If you did play on PS3, you now own it on PS4, so this minimal graphical update is an excellent excuse to revisit it.

Journey PS4 may be out in two weeks, if you don't stop believin'

UPDATE: Journey's PS4 release is the 21st of July . It's official.

Journey's rune-etched scarf will reach acrooooooss the generation gap and wrap up PS4 in two weeks, according to Sony documents. Though the the PS4 version of Thatgamecompany's magnum opus is still listed simply for "summer" elsewhere, Docs for PlayStation puts it at July 21.

You may have unknowingly used Docs for PlayStation to read the electronic manuals for recent first-party PS4 games, though Sony also hosted its official E3 2015 experience guide on the site. The same document has entries for a number of other upcoming PS4 games like Uncharted 4 and Street Fighter 5 with release dates listed as "TBD."

The document's official, but it's still an oddly low-key way to announce the release date for the new-and-improved version of one of the best games ever . I've asked Sony to confirm the date and will update this story if I hear back.

The PS4 version of Journey will run at 1080p and 60 frames per second , which should be the only changes that players notice. If you owned Journey on PS3, you'll also get the PS4 version for free - just like Thatgamecompany's two previous projects, Fl0w and Flower.

Phoenix Labs Announces Game Cancellations And Layoffs Amidst Company Restructuring

Phoenix Labs , the studio behind Dauntless and Fae Farm, has revealed that it has cancelled a number of projects and laid off staff as a result of undergoing major restructuring.

According to Kris Morness, the former principle engineer at Phoenix Labs, the company has laid off “about 140” of its staff. Speaking on its LinkedIn profile, Phoenix Labs issued the following statement:

We are reorganizing Phoenix Labs to focus on our best-in-class live service titles, Dauntless and Fae Farm, and serving their communities. This unfortunately means canceling work on all other projects at the studio, which will impact many of our colleagues immediately. We are giving notices to everyone whose roles are affected. This restructure has not come easily, and truly has been the last resort to ensure Phoenix Labs can survive, and thrive in the long term. It’s impossible to put into words how deeply we value every talented individual who has contributed their hard work and passion to every project at our studio. We are doing all we can to help our departing team members in this interim period and encourage any studios looking for incredible talent to speak with the one-of-a-kind people that have been a part of Phoenix Labs’ journey.

Phoenix Labs was established by a number of former Riot Games employees back in 2014, and has seen a lot of success with both Dauntless and Fae Farm. While it isn’t known what games were cancelled due to the restructuring efforts, the studio previously confirmed that it had “several new projects in development spanning a wide range of styles and genres — fantasy, sci-fi, action, strategy, and everything in between.”

Diablo 4 Season 4: All Seasonal Journey Rewards And Objectives

Completing Seasonal Journey objectives will net you special rewards, including battle pass XP.

Diablo 4 Season 4, Loot Reborn, is here, bringing a reworked loot system and new seasonal content. Among the new content is the Seasonal Journey, which provides a series of tasks to complete, which provides rewards in the shape of aspects, resources, and battle pass XP. Since the Seasonal Journey provides a ton of battle pass XP, it is the best way to get Smoldering Ashes, which provide season-long boosts. There are seven chapters in the Seasonal Journey that will take you from level 1 all the way to level 100 and beyond.

You must complete 8 out of 10 objectives to complete this chapter.

Chapter 1 objectives:

• What Lurks Below: Complete 3 cellars
• Den of Evil: Complete any dungeon found on your map
• Trouble in the Wilds: Complete 2 world events
• One of the Pack: Increase your Wolf's Honor Rank to 1 by battling evil in Helltide Zones
• Forager: Collect 50 Bundled Herbs from Harvest Nodes, Cellars, or various other sources throughout Sanctuary
• Fragrant Find: Collect 10 Angelbreath from Harvest Nodes, Cellar Mastery, or various other sources throughout Sanctuary
• Prospector: Collect 50 Iron Chunks from salvaging Weapons and Jewelry, Mineral Nodes, or various other sources throughout Sanctuary
• Tanner's Apprentice: Collect 50 Rawhide from salvaging Armor, defeating Monsters, or various other sources throughout Sanctuary
• Joining the Fray: Complete 1 Iron Wolf Event found during a Helltide
• Spoils of Hell: Open 1 Tortured Gifts during Helltide

All of the Chapter 1 objectives are fairly simple and should be both easy and quick to complete. The only objective on the list that could be an issue is completing two world events, just because you have to wait for one to be live, but world events do occur relatively frequently.

Chapter 1 Rewards:

• Greater Favor: Contains Favor, which is battle pass XP
• First Journey Cache: Contains Consumables, such as Elixirs and Murmuring Obols
• First Journey Crafting Cache: Contains Crafting Materials, such as Herbs and Gem Fragments
• First Journey Equipment Cache: Contains a Legendary Weapon, Gloves, and Amulet for your class

You must complete 7 out of 10 objectives to complete this chapter.

Chapter 2 Objectives:

• Veteran of Ashes: Acquire 666 Aberrant Cinders during a Helltide
• Miracles of Alchemy: Craft 10 Elixirs at the Alchemist
• Keeper of the Keys: Collect 3 Whispering Keys, sold at the Purveyor of Curiosities
• Touching the Eternal: Unlock 3 Aspects in the Codex of Power, such as through completing Dungeons
• Honorary Wolf: Increase your Wolf's Honor Rank to 6 by battling evil in Helltide zones
• Notarized Nuisance: Increase your Threat Level to Max by defeating monsters during Helltide
• Expanded Repertoire: Learn 1 Recipe of Magic rarity or higher
• Cinder Spender: Open 10 Tortured Gifts during Helltide
• Mad Prophecies: Complete 3 Doomsayer Events found during Helltide
• Demonic Presences: Disrupt 3 Cultist Rituals found during Helltide

Again, nothing too difficult or time consuming here. The best thing to do here is to try and nab the six objectives that are all related to the Helltide at once, and then just complete one additional objective, whichever one seems easiest for you.

Chapter 2 Rewards:

• Greater Favor
• Second Journey Cache: Contains a Temper Manual and Consumables, such as Elixirs and Baneful Hearts
• Second Journey Crafting Cache: Contains Crafting Materials, such as Herbs and Veiled Crystals
• Second Journey Equipment Cache: Contains a Legendary Weapon, Pants, and Ring for your class

You must complete 8 of 10 objectives to complete this chapter.

Chapter 3 Objectives:

• Risk and Reward: Buy 25 pieces of equipment from the Purveyor of Curiosities
• A Master at Work: Complete 3 World Events with Mastery
• Hard Fought Victory: Complete 1 Legion Event
• Forsaken Offerings: Obtain 10 Caches from the Tree of Whispers by completing Whispers
• Raised by Wolves: Increase your Wolf's Honor Rank to 9 by battling evil in Helltide zones
• Ineffable Draughts: Consume 5 Seasonal Elixirs, Elixir of Momentum or Elixir of Holy Bolts
• Basic Needs: Temper 5 Affixes onto Gear at the Blacksmith
• Thorn in Hell: Defeat 666 Monsters while at Max Threat Level during Helltide
• Predator and Prey: Defeat 666 Monsters while Bloodmarked in Hostile areas
• Capable Craftsmen: Learn 1 Recipe of Rare rarity of higher

The two objectives here that are the easiest to skip will be Predator and Prey and Forsaken Offerings . Predator and Prey requires you to kill enemies in a PvP zone, while marked for other players to attack, which some people might not be interested in doing. Forsaken Offerings requires you to complete enough Whispers to obtain 10 caches, which isn't hard, but is time consuming enough that you might finish the other objectives first.

Chapter 3 Rewards:

• Third Journey Cache: Contains Consumables, such as Sigil Powder and Baneful Hearts
• Third Journey Crafting Cache: Contains Crafting Materials, such as Veiled Crystals and Forgotten Souls
• Third Journey Equipment Cache: Contains a Legendary Weapon, Chest Armor, and Boots for your class
• Third Journey Summoning Cache: Contains Summoning Materials to challenge Bosses in World Tier 3

You must complete 9 of 11 objectives to complete this chapter.

Chapter 4 Objectives:

• Pilgrim of Horror: Complete a Tier 10 or higher Nightmare Dungeon
• Blessing of the Strong: Equip Sacred Legendary items in every slot
• Confront the Creature: Defeat the Blood Maiden during Helltide in World Tier 3 or higher
• Baptized in Hell: Defeat 15 Hellborne during a Helltide
• Shards of the Fiends: Collect 5 Scattered Prisms, found primarily from defeating World Bosses
• The Long Howl: Complete 15 Iron Wolf Events found during Helltide in World Tier 3 or higher
• Most Dangerous Game: Defeat 15 Elite Monsters while Bloodmarked in Hostile areas
• Seed to Evil: Collect 15 Baneful Hearts by defeating Hellborne during a Helltide in World Tier 3 or higher
• Stem the Tide: Defeat 666 Monsters while at Max Threat Level during Helltide in World Tier 3 or higher
• Brink of Madness: Defeat 666 Monsters while using the Profane Mindcage during a Helltide
• Decent into Delirium: Defeat 666 Elite Monster while using the Profane Mindcage during Helltide in World Tier 3

The vast majority of these objectives are done in a Helltide, so focusing on those will make this chapter go faster. The two skippable objectives are Shards of the Fiends and Most Dangerous Game . Shards of the Fiends requires you to beat world bosses, which spawn every three hours roughly, so you might miss your opportunity depending on when you are playing. Most Dangerous Game is another PvP area objective, which some players might not be interested in doing.

Chapter 4 Rewards:

• Captain of the Wolves Emblem
• Fourth Journey Cache: Contains a Temper Manual and Consumables, such as Profane Mindcages and a Scroll of Amnesia
• Fourth Journey Crafting Cache: Contains Crafting Materials, such as Veiled Crystals and Forgotten Souls
• Fourth Journey Equipment Cache: Contains a Legendary Weapon, Helm, and Ring for your class
• Fourth Journey Summoning Cache: Contains Summoning Materials to challenge Bosses in World Tier 4

Slayer (Chapter 5)

Slayer Objectives:

• The Gathering Fires: Acquire 6,666 Aberrant Cinders during Helltie on World Tier 4
• Damnation's Downfall: Defeat each of the 5 Helltide Commanders while using the Profane Mindcage during Helltides, summoned after completing Helltide Events
• Shock and Awe: Defeat Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint in World Tier 4
• No Mere Mortal: Unlock a Legendary Paragon node after reaching level 50, through using Paragon Points
• Mephisto's Bane: Purify 33,333 Seeds of Hatred obtained in Hostile areas at an Altar of Extraction
• Alpha Member: Increase your Wolf's Honor Rank to 15 by battling evil in Helltide zones
• Form and Function: Upgrade Gear by adding 5 Sockets to them at the Jeweler
• Guilt: Defeat Echo of Varshan in World Tier 3, summoned beneath the Tree of Whispers with materials from World Tier 3 Whisper Caches
• Ancient Craft: Temper 8 Affixes onto Ancestral Gear at the Blacksmith
• Precious Shards: Salvage 100 Ancestral Legendary items at the Blacksmith
• Heir to Transcendence: Equip Ancestral items in every slot

Once again, many of these objectives involve doing activities in a Helltide, so many will be done simultaneously. The two easiest to skip will be Mephisto's Bane , the PvP objective, and No Mere Mortal . No Mere Mortal requires a legendary Paragon Node, which will likely take about 15 to 20 Paragon Points to reach depending on your board, so you will likely need to be a few levels past 50 and you might complete the other objectives prior to that.

Slayer Rewards:

• Slayer's Cache: Contains Consumables, such as Runeshards and a Scroll of Amnesia
• Slayer's Crafting Cache: Contains Crafting Materials, such as Obducite and Scattered Prisms
• Slayer's Equipment Cache: Contains two Ancestral Legendaries and an Ancestral Unique for your class
• Slayer's Summoning Cache: Contains Summoning Materials to challenge Bosses in World Tier 4

Champion (Chapter 6)

You will need to complete 10 of 12 objectives to complete this chapter

Champion Objectives:

• Not All Who Wander: Defeat 5 Seething Abomination while Bloodmarked in Hostile areas
• Lootmaster: Open 10 Tortured Gifts during a single Helltide in World Tier 4
• Forgiveness: Defeat Lord Zir in World Tier 4, summoned in Fractured Peaks with Exquisite Blood from World Tier 4 World Bosses or Legion Events
• Harbinger of Ice: Defeat The Beast in the Ice in World Tier 4, summoned with Distilled Fear from Tier 30 or higher Nightmare Dungeons
• Anointed in Blood: Reach Level 90
• Born in Torment: Defeat 10 Hellborne while using the Profane Mindcage during Helltide in World Tier 4
• Anguish Ignited: Defeat Echo of Andariel in World Tier 4, summoned in Kehjistan with Materials from The Beast in The Ice and Lord Zir
• Exterminator: Defeat Echo of Duriel in World Tier 4, summoned in Kehjistan with materials from Grigoire and the Echo of Varshan
• Heritage of Artisans: Learn 1 Recipe of Legendary rarity or higher
• Honing Craft: Attempt to Masterwork 20 gear at the Blacksmith
• Cleaning Day: Defeat 666 Monsters within 6 Minutes while using a Profane Mindcage during Helltide in World Tier 4
• Preamable: Complete Artificer's Tier 1 or higher in The Pit, located at the Artificer's Obelisk in Cerrigar and activated with Runeshards

This chapter contains several difficult objectives, so you must pick your skips wisely. While most of the summoned bosses will be a bit of a challenge, Exterminator requires you to beat Duriel, who is summoned using materials from The Beast In The Ice and Lord Zir, which are needed for another challenge, so Duriel will be one of the last objectives completed anyway. Once again, Not All Who Wander is a PvP zone focused objective, so that might be a good one to skip too.

Champion Rewards:

• Mark of the Artificer Emblem
• Champion's Cache: Contains a Temper Manual and Consumables, such as Runeshards and Scrolls of Amnesia
• Champion's Crafting Cache: Contains Crafting Materials, such as Ingolith and Scattered Prisms
• Champion's Equipment Cache: Contains two Ancestral Legendaries and an Ancestral Unique for your class
• Champion's Summoning Cache: Contains Stygian Stones and other Summoning Materials to challenge Tormented Echo Bosses

Destroyer (Chapter 7)

You need to complete 7 of 9 objectives to complete this chapter.

Destroyer Objectives:

• Blessed Mother Departed: Defeat Echo of Lilith in World Tier 4, remembered in Nevesk
• Glyphmaster: Improve 5 Paragon Glyphs to Rank 15 by completing Nightmare Dungeon
• Alpha of the Pack: Increase your Wolf's Honor Rank to 18 by battling evil in Helltide zones
• Delved Deep: Complete Artificer's Tier 21 or higher in The Pit, located at the Artificer's Obelisk in Cerrigar and activated with Runeshards
• Horadric Smith: Masterwork Gear to rank 8 at the Balcksmith
• Anathema: Defeat the Blood Maiden while using the Profane Mindcage during Helltide in World Tier 4
• The Bigger They Are: Defeat 10 World Bosses
• Anguish Extinguished: Use Stygian Stones to summon and defeat Tormented Echo of Andariel
• Eradicator: Use Stygian Stones to summon and defeat Tormented Echo of Duriel

With this being the final chapter, all of these objectives are both difficult and time consuming, although two are particularly difficult. Blessed Mother Departed and Eradicator both require you to complete the two hardest boss fights in Diablo 4, Duriel and Lilith, on the highest world tier. You will need a basically complete build to take down these fights, so these will likely be the final two objectives completed.

Destroyer Rewards:

• Destroyer's Cache: Contains Consumables, such as Runeshards and Scrolls of Amnesia
• Destroyer's Crafting Cache: Contains Crafting Materials, such as Neathiron and Scattered Prisms
• Destroyer's Equipment Cache: Contains two Ancestral Legendaries and two Ancestral Uniques for your class

How Long It Is – Robinson: The Journey

Robinson: The Journey raised many when it was first revealed at Paris Games Week last year as a VR title. Assuming the role of a boy named Robin, players adventure across a foreign planet known as Tyson III with the help of HIGS, a robot AI. The two of you are not alone on the planet, however, with dinosaurs and other creatures roaming the surface and skies of the planet. Oh, and there’s an adorable dinosaur to help you along the way, too.

If you’ve been looking for a VR game that feels more like a traditional gaming experience, than Robinson certainly achieves that. Unfortunately, however, the game clocks in at a pretty short time. You’ll be looking at roughly five to seven hours to make it through the campaign, ultimately varying dependent on how quick you are to work out the environmental puzzles that may hinder your progress.

Unfortunately, you’re not going to get much more playtime out of the game other than that, and unless you fall head over heels in love with the game, there’s little reason to go and play through it all over again.

May 2024 PlayStation Plus: Red Dead Redemption 2 Leads A Diverse Collection Of Games

Sony Group Corp. SONY revealed the complete list of PlayStation Plus Games Catalog additions for May 2024, headlined by the highly anticipated return of Red Dead Redemption 2.

While this month’s lineup is slightly leaner compared to previous months, the inclusion of Rockstar’s iconic open-world cowboy adventure ensured that subscribers have plenty to look forward to.

As usual, these games will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members, with a special selection for Premium members only in the Classic Games Catalog.

Set to drop on May 21, this month’s selection includes a total of 13 games—10 in the main Games Catalog and three in the Classic Games Catalog.

PlayStation Plus Games Catalog Additions for May 2024:

It’s another month which means new games for anyone with a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscription. This month, we’re getting a number of indie titles (and one huge title from a AAA publisher) coming to the Game Catalog that includes versions from both the PS5 and PS4 era.

PlayStation Plus Extra costs $14.99 per month, and PlayStation Plus Premium costs $17.99 per month. Premium also gets gamers access to game trials and game streaming to devices like the PlayStation Portal.

Coming to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in May 2024

Red dead redemption 2 – may 21st.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the first title to launch on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in May, and what a title to be available—it’s one of the best games ever created. The game will be available on May 21st and will include the PS4 version.

From the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a sprawling tale of life in America at the dawn of the modern age. The end of the Wild West era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed.

Deceive Inc. – May 21st

Go undercover as the world’s greatest secret agents in this multiplayer game of social stealth and subterfuge. Disguise yourself as anyone to blend into the crowd, deploy high-tech gadgets to gain the upper hand, and extract the package before the competition takes it for themselves! No trick is too dirty when you work for Deceive Inc. 

The Sims 4 City Living – May 21st

Another title launching on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in May is The Sims 4 City Living . The title launches on May 21st and includes the PS4 version. Keep in mind that this one is an expansion and you’ll need to own The Sims 4 to play it.

Take your Sims to the city and explore everything it has to offer, from bustling action outside your door, to unique situations that come only with apartment living in The Sims 4 City Living. Explore a densely populated, urban city with a variety of neighborhoods each with its own unique personality. Enrich and grow your Sims by taking them to different festivals all over the city where they can watch street performers, enter competitions, and meet different walks of life.

Crime Boss: Rockay City – May 21st

Take on the role of rising underworld star, Travis Baker (Michael Madsen), as you set your sights on becoming the new king of Rockay City. In the solo roguelike campaign, you’ll employ strategy and firepower to carry out cunning heists and claim turf from rival gang leaders, all while trying to evade capture by the tenacious Sheriff Norris (Chuck Norris). Work with your team of planners and handlers, and discover how they each ended up in Rockay City in thrilling flashback missions. Alternatively, form your own gang in online PvE multiplayer and work together to stage audacious robberies.

The Settlers: New Allies – May 21st

Another title coming to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in May is The Settlers: New Allies . The game will be available on May 21st and includes the PS4 version.

The Settlers: New Allies is a strategy game with an in-depth build-up experience and real-time strategic battles. Choose among three factions: the Elari, the Maru, and the Jorn. Each has a unique look, playstyle, and background story. Experience a story-driven campaign set in the world of The Settlers, or go for the special Hardcore mode and its additional challenges. Play online with up to eight players in thrilling skirmish battles against other players or AI for long-lasting fun.

Stranded: Alien Dawn – May 21st

Brave a new world in Stranded: Alien Dawn, a planet survival sim placing the fate of a small marooned group in your hands. Forge your story through compelling and immersive strategic gameplay as you make vital decisions to protect your survivors from starvation, disease, extreme weather and more. Under threat from a continuing war between the cats of Felingard and the advancing dogs of the Lupus Empire, CAT QUEST II tells the tail of two kings, brought together against their will, on a journey of paw-some discovery to reclaim their thrones.

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame – May 21st

Another title launching on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in May is The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame . The title launches on May 21st and includes the PS4 version.

The alien monster invaders have left Bricksburg in ruins and taken Emmet’s friends! It is now up to Emmet and a host of heroic characters to go beyond their world and save their friends from the strange inhabitants of the Systar System. Journey into outer space, discover new worlds, and test your Master Building skills.

Watch Dogs – May 21st

Play as brilliant hacker Aiden Pearce, who is on the hunt for those who hurt his family in this open world, Chicago-set adventure. You’ll be able to monitor and hack all who surround you by manipulating everything connected to the city’s network. Using your smartphone, you have real-time control over the city’s infrastructure. Trap your enemy in a 30-car pileup by manipulating the traffic lights. Stop a train, and then board it to evade the authorities. Narrowly escape capture by quickly raising a drawbridge. Anything connected to the city’s CTOS can become your weapon.

Coming to PlayStation Premium | Classics in May 2024

While most of the games coming to PlayStation Plus will be available on both the Extra and Premium subscriptions, some games will only be available for Premium subscribers. Here’s that list:

Jessica Lange Says Delayed Long Day's Journey Into Night Film Is 'Finally Finished' (Exclusive)

The long wait for the Long Day's Journey Into Night film might be finally over, Jessica Lange tells PEOPLE.

Filming for the new movie adaptation of Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer-winning play wrapped in November 2022, Deadline reported, with Lange reprising her role as morphine-addicted matriarch Mary Tyrone — the part she first played in the 2016 Broadway revival to great acclaim (and to her first Tony Award ).

Like that production, this Long Day's Journey Into Night was primed to be a major awards contender. Not only was it stacked with a superstar cast (like Ed Harris as Mary's husband James, and Ben Foster as their alcoholic elder son, Jamie), but it came from theater director Jonathan Kent, in his film debut.

But a release date for the film has yet to be announced.

Now, two years later, that end looks near. "It's finally finished," Lange, 75, tells PEOPLE at the 2024 Tony Awards Meet the Nominees press junket, where she was celebrating her leading actress Tony nomination for her role in Mother Play . "You'll be able to see it in theaters."

She went on to say that financial problems factored into the delay.

"It was a project that we all loved and were passionate about, but the money was never fully there so it was always scraping together a little bit here, a little bit there," Lange says. "And I think now, maybe, we finally have finished it. Hopefully!"

PEOPLE reached out to MGM Studios for comment.

Financial problems have plagued the Long Day's Journey Into Night movie since filming began in Wicklow, Ireland in September 2022.

A day after cameras went up, production shut down, The New York Times reported, when lead producer Gabrielle Tana discovered their biggest chunk of financing had fallen through. The cast then spent weeks waiting patiently as Tana got the money to start again,

“We were shocked at first, of course, but never once did we think it wasn’t going to happen," Lange told the outlet.

The down had it's benefits, especially when it came to the performance. "As tough as it was when the money fell out, it was the most rewarding film acting experience I’ve had in quite a while,” said Harris, explaining that he was able “to sit back, think about the character, calm down, and just be this dude rather than worrying about playing such a classic, important role.”

They also were able to bond as a cast. "We just hung in, went to the pub, took long walks," explained Lange. "We really became friends and cared deeply for one another, because we were going through the same thing. I think that in some way it added to our intensity and passion for doing this."

First adapted for the screen in 1962 with Katharine Hepburn as Mary, the play has been made into four films, the last a 1996 film from Canadian director David Wellington.

Lange played Mary initially in a 2000 revival in London that later moved to Broadway.

In the 30 plus years since Lange made her Broadway debut, she's finally doing something for the first time on stage: originating a role.

"It's never been done before," Lange tells PEOPLE. "So of course, going into a piece like this, you wonder if it's going to work. But it's been wonderful. And then to be recognized for the work? I'm thrilled."

Written by Paula Vogel, the play follows Lange as Phyllis, a single mother who the audiences follows over multiple decades as she parents her two children, played by Emmy winner Jim Parsons and Tony winner Celia Keenan-Bolger.

It's been nominated for four 2024 Tony Awards, including featured actor nominations of Parsons and Keenan-Bolger, and best play.

The 2024 Tony Awards will take place on Sunday, June 16 at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater in New York City. Viewers can watch the show on CBS and Paramount+ beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Select awards will also be handed out on a preshow that will stream on Pluto TV.

And in between those two milestones, the path is fraught with methods of trial and error, often with numerous misdiagnoses and improper treatment. Nicole, a Texas resident and mom of two fur babies, shares her incredible 19-year journey with a GPA diagnosis from symptoms to control and how she learned that sometimes the most important voice is the one within yourself.

2003–2005: From Presumed Seasonal Allergies to a Rare Disease Diagnosis

One day, Nicole developed an irritating, burning cough that wouldn’t let up. “It wasn’t anything I’d experienced before and couldn’t be easily explained,” Nicole said. Her doctor insisted it was just a recurring sinus infection or seasonal allergies, and yet the prescribed antibiotics had little to no effect on her symptoms. Weeks turned into months, and months turned into a year and a half, and Nicole reached her breaking point. She was experiencing constant nosebleeds, sinus infections and low-grade fevers and despite being only in her 30s, she struggled to find the strength to do routine activities without feeling winded.

In April of 2005, Nicole finally decided to go to the emergency room after she found herself coughing up blood. “That started the process of extensive labs and me just spilling my guts to the poor emergency room doctor because I’d had so many seemingly random symptoms for so long,” said Nicole. “But I’m so glad I did, because what felt random to me, made them consider I could be dealing with something systemic.”

Within a matter of weeks, a lobectomy and pathology report revealed a positive granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) diagnosis.

“Throughout the process, you keep thinking you’re going to get better or you’re blowing things out of proportion, but I knew I wasn’t,” said Nicole. “Thank goodness I went to the emergency room, because I could not physically have gone on much longer.”

2005–2024: Two Decades of a Relentless Pursuit of Care

After Nicole’s diagnosis, a milestone that should have brought comfort, she began a nearly two-decade long journey to find adequate treatment for her disease. She, along with her doctors and specialists, entered a seemingly endless cycle of treatment trial and error, starting and stopping various rounds of glucocorticoids, also known as steroids, immunosuppressants and chemotherapy to manage her condition.

Nicole experienced nearly constant disruption to her life because of the efforts required to manage GPA. Perhaps the most frustrating and heart-breaking obstacle for Nicole was the loss of her ability to have biological children due to the chemotherapy treatments, which had caused infertility. Nicole encourages women who are of childbearing years and about to embark upon chemotherapy to consult a doctor about egg freezing or embryo banking – an option that was not available to her 19 years ago.

However, not all hope was lost during this time. In fact, her journey led her to unexpected places and welcomed her into new communities. An avid viewer of “Mystery Diagnosis”, a television show featuring patients who share their challenging diagnosis stories, Nicole felt compelled to submit her own story which, when aired, was met with a wave of outreach from those who related.

Nicole said, “I was so grateful to be able to raise awareness because it was alarming how little was known about MPA or GPA, given they are such serious diseases.” She continued, “People reached out to me saying that the show was beneficial and let their friends and family have a different outlook on their condition.” The experience was inspiring for Nicole and brought her closer to the vasculitis community, which changed her perspective by showing her, shockingly, how many people understood her situation.

January 2024–Present: Achieving Control and Retrospection

Nicole’s antibodies finally tested negative in January 2024, and while she still regularly takes immunosuppressants, she has obtained control of her disease. If there’s anything Nicole has learned 19 years after her diagnosis, it’s to find your voice throughout the process and the importance of being a self-advocate. “The patient shouldn’t sit back and wait for answers to come to them,” said Nicole. “There’s so much access to information, and if you want to have the best outcome and feel as well as possible, you owe it to yourself to be as involved as you can.”
