Josh Groban (born February 27, 1981) is an American multi-platinum, award-winning, classical, pop and operatic singer, hailing from Los Angeles, California, U.S.
Having started life with dreams of acting, it wasn’t until the summers of ’97 and ’98 where he attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts Camp in Michigan that singing became his priority. Groban subsequently studied at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, and Cernegie Mellon University, before dropping out of the latter having been offered a recording contract. Aided by singing at the 1999 inauguration of the Governor of California Gray Davis, a duet with Céline Dion, and a popular appearance in “Alley McBeal”, Groban’s early career went from strength to strength
Following a host of benefit shows including “The Andre Agassi Grand Slam Event for Children” with Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Don Henley and Robin Williams, “Muhammed Ali’s Fight Night Foundation”, and “The Family Celebration”, the singer released his self-titled debut album. The November 2001 release highlighted Groban’s voice as a force to be reckoned with, notably on the singles “Gira Con Me Questa Notte” and “Alla Luce Del Sole”. The album subsequently went double-platinum, earned favourable reviews from critics, and spawned the Adult Contemporary Chart No. 1 “To Where You Are”.
The singer’s classical style and enviable vocal range have led him to perform at a number of high profile events including the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway, the Vatican in Rome, Italy, and at the World’s Children’s Day alongside Céline Dion, Nick Carter and Enrique Iglesias. The singer’s sophomore full-length “Closer”, released in November 2003, represented a much more honest and open approach to songwriting and producing than its predecessor. The album ultimately topped the U.S Billboard 200 after debuting at No. 4, aided by the popular singles “You Raise Me Up” and “Remember When It Rained”. Groban built on this success with the release of “Live at the Greek” in 2004, “Awake” in 2006, the Christmas album “Noel” in 2007, “Illuminations” in 2010, and “All That Echoes” in 2013.
Live reviews
What a sensational performance. Setting aside for a moment his immense talent as a singer and pianist he is a truly great performer who clearly appreciates his audience and goes to the nth degree to give back to them and interact making them feel include in the show. Indeed, he returned to the stage to give a second encore in response to crowd’s applause and finished the night with heart felt version of ‘You Raise Me Up’. Everyone on stage with him from the orchestra to guest stars seemed genuinely delighted to be there and a part of the show.
He did a lot of musical numbers from his latest album Stages including songs from Chess, Carousel and Phantom of the Opera. It’s hard to pick favourites from a show that was so consistently strong but if pushed to choose I’d say his production of Le temps des cathédrales from Notre-Dame de Paris was particularly mesmerizing. Another highlight of the evening for me was when he revealed Louise Dearman as a guest performer. I first saw her several years ago staring alongside Rachel Tucker in the West End production of WICKED The Musical. What can say except breath taking. She is such an elegant, powerful and proud performer commanding an immense stage presence. She starts to sing and you just find yourself drawn in, captivated and enchanted. I doubt a single member of the audience could have failed to have been moved by their version of ‘If I loved you’.
Throughout the night the show just seemed to go from strength to strength leaving you at the end of the night feeling uplifted and overjoyed. A truly spectacle evening. I urge any and everyone to go see the show if you get the chance.

At first one would think that Josh Groban is just another opera singer whose voice is slightly bigger than everyone else’s, but if you have ever seen him live, you would bite your tongue for having said anything of the kind.
Along with the majestic orchestra he usually has set up, the combination of instruments and his voice puts you in a state of emotional bliss. Wishing and wanting to be able to belt it out the way he does.
His albums, in no way, hint at his personality. Listening to his music, you would think he is quiet, reserved, deep and intelligent. Of which all could be true, however, at a live show Josh Groban shows another side, a louder, funnier, and charming side that you had no idea even existed. Running in to the crowd, singing happy birthday to those who deserve it and making a joke at every opportunity and mind you, the jokes are actually funny. Strangely enough by time the show ends you are left crying because ‘You Raise Me Up’ and ‘You are Loved’ hit you right in the spot, but crying even harder because you’re laughing at all the random things he keeps saying. Wonderful, his performances are simply wonderful.
I love listening to Josh Groban. At the concert I learned it does not really matter if I hear him through good speakers or live. At least not at this concert.
There was nothing wrong with the concert. He performed, but that was all. Somehow, I did not feel like he engaged the audience. He primarily looked off to his stage right, since I was sitting stage left, that was frustrating.
I don't really fault him, but I thing between the altitude and the tight concert schedule, he was just tired.
The photo shot was very brief. Later I learned other people had several photos taken, I had the standard 3 fast shutter clicks and out. Others had fun poses! I counted, only 80 people, total qualified for pictures, and extra 15 seconds with those who did not get the extras, would not have ruined his or anyone else's night, but would have made ours. I barely got to say hello and thank you.
No encore, he did not even come out for an extra bow.
Again, I love to listen to him. I have most of his albums. I think he is a great person, as I have watched and read interviews. I just wish he was feeling it MORE on Tuesday night.
Josh Groban is the operatic singer, turned multi-platinum pop singer with a really rather gigantic voice and a fanbase to match it. His following is rather extreme, often attending Groban's shows numerous times and following him on tour yet with his warm personality and impeccable sets you can begin to understand why.
His operatic and theatre influences are very apparent this evening as Josh stands at the helm of a complex setup featuring a huge number of instruments including harps, strings and percussion. These all add luxurious layers to the likes of 'False Alarms' which sounds so much more four dimensional than the recorded version. The crowd attempts to sing along but it seems rather futile as Josh hits the high notes of 'February Song' with his power chord vocal. He thanks the audience for their effort none the less and explains that their support it was keeps him touring at the gruelling pace he has become accustomed to. As he takes his final bows following a winning version of 'You Raise Me Up' the applause are rapturous for his class act.
Fantastic concert to a full house! Josh was on point and sang many songs from his new album, Stages, as well as a couple of Christmas favorites from his 2007 Christmas album, Noel. He invited Lena Hall to sing a duet with him twice, as well as showcase a couple of her own songs from her R&B/rock solo album. Josh was charming in his anecdotes and seemed genuinely happy to be there, following a canceled showing in October due to a 103-degree fever. I enjoyed the night immensely as a Groban fan and a showtunes lover!
This was an absolutely phenomenal concert. I saw him in May of 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed that concert, but there is something about maturity of the voice and person that becomes him. He sang songs from Stages, as well as a couple of other "easily recognizable" songs those of us Grobanites will remember. I could have not asked for better seats (third row, center stage) and a better concert. He was personable, humble, and sang beautifully. Thank you for a delightful evening, Josh Groban!
I thought that the show was FANTASTIC, I love anything that he sings. He put on a excellent show the singer before him was also excellent.
As soon as I heard he was going to be at Madison Gardens I asked my family if they would take me to see him because they know much love his singing. I have Parkinson's so they said that they would checked out about the Handicap section, and I have to say all the that helped were fantastic.
It was a fabulous night. My daughter and I are big fans of Josh Groban. Saw the great Comet of 1812 on Broadway three times all from different parts of the theater. We played his songs all the way back to the hotel and then from the hotel back to Brookline Massachusetts. His voice is just heavenly and we both can’t get enough of Josh. Look forward to many years of listening to his songs
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC SHOW AS USUAL!! EVEN IDINA MENZEL WAS FABULOUS AS OPENER AND DUETS WITH JOSH! WONDERFUL SEATS, ORCHESTRA, SPECIAL FX...CANNOT SAY ENOUGH HOW PERFECT IT WAS! SAW HIM 5 yrs AGO AND WILL SEE HIM AGAIN IN THE FUTURE FOR SURE! Love everything about Josh!
Josh's voice is still ringing in my ears. So strong and powerful, he makes anything he sings his. The whole show was one big highlight after another. I already had 2 of his albums. Now I will get the others so we can listen to him as often as we want. 5 Thumbs up!

After a long silence since December 2019 and just a single event in February 2020 , Josh Groban has finally decided to come back to meet his fans live on stage. In his recent official release, he announced that he would finally embark upon a journey of tours that will go through 25 different cities. The Tour is named Harmony after his last album was released in 2020. The Tour also supported his album because he did not perform any promotional tours. In a statement, he shared his thoughts about the feelings of the upcoming Tour. He said that he was far from the surface of most favourite parts of his musical career that was concerts and tours, and now he is very excited and grateful to announce that he would be back to do what he loves most and do best with his upcoming Harmony tour. He also added that the Tour is more than just a concert. He said it would be a celebration of connection with his friends, colleagues, and fans who supported him in the last couple of years. And he hopes that they will join him in the concerts.
The Harmony tour is mainly based on outdoor venues and will start from Detroit in Michigan on 17th June 2022 . The Tour will hit 25 cities across the United States before concluding in Los Angeles, California, on 2nd August 2022.
He is also accompanied by Lucia Micarelli, a Violinist and Singer, on his Tour. New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band will also be joining him in his Tour, and Eleri Ward will also appear on Tour.
For the sake of public safety, it is required for every participant to provide proof of vaccination or COVID negative report. The rule may be subjected to change according to conditions at that time, but Josh Groben’s whole touring crew will be fully vaccinated and masked for the safety of people. Before embarking on the Tour of Harmony, Josh will be continuing his Great Big Radio City Show at Radio City Music Hall from 7th to 9th April.

The Songs In The Tour
As the Tour is primarily based on Josh Groban’s latest album, Harmony, the songs will most likely be included. These songs are the world we knew (over and over), angels, celebrate me home, the shape of my heart (duet with Leslie Odom jr.), your face, both sides now (duet with Sara Bareilles), she, the impossible dream, the first time I saw your face, it’s now or never, I can’t make you love me, the fullest, nature boy, I’ll stand by you (duet with Helene Fischer), April come she will, I can see now, con Los años que me quedan, solitaire. There are also chances of many other songs from guest artists and bands appearing in the tours.
The Team Of The Tour
Josh Groban is not alone on his Tour, but he has the company of his friends and colleagues whom he mentioned in his statement before the Tour. He is accompanied by Lucia Micarelli, who is a Violinist and Singer. New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band will also be joining him on his Tour, and Eleri Ward will also appear on Tour. Other than that, he will also have a tour crew who will ensure the technicalities of tours and other staff such as security.
The Start Of The Tour
Friday, the Tour will start on 17th June 2022 , from Pine Knob Music Theater in Detroit, Michigan.
The End Of The Tour
The Tour will reach its destination, the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on Tuesday 2nd August 2022 .
Pre-Tour Events
Josh Groban will be performing at the Great Big Radio City Show at Radio City Music Hall from 7th to 9th April to support his Valentine’s debut in 2020. He will also be performing at Providence in Rhodes Island on 2nd April 2022. The tickets for all these events are available for sale on Ticketmaster , Ticketnetwork , and many more platforms.
The Tickets
Tickets are an essential part of the Tour. Josh Groban’s Tour is being held after a long time, and various other stars are accompanying him, so naturally, there is a massive demand for tickets. The tickets are available on sale on all of the leading ticket-selling platforms from Friday 4th February 2022 . However, pre-sale was opened for Citi card members on 1st February at 10.00 a.am to 3rd February at 10 p.m through the Citi entertainment program.
Tickets can be purchased from the leading platforms, including Ticketmaster , Seatgeek , Ticketnetwork , and many more.
The Price Of The Tickets
Although the Tour of Josh Groban is being held after a long time in support of his latest album that has not been performed live before with several other guest artists, the price of the tickets is relatively low. The minimum price of the ticket is about $49 to $1420 for the VIP tickets at the front of the stage with VIP privileges.
Cheap Tickets
There are a lot of methods to get cheap tickets in hand. The easiest way is to purchase tickets from secondary platforms near the date of the concert. The price on the primary market is constant, but they shift with the demand on the secondary market. If the order is low and they have a lot of tickets to sell, they decrease prices. But in the case of the Josh Gorban concert, it is not recommended because there are enormous demands of tickets noticed among fans. The price is not too high considering that you will see 4 different artists and bands.
The Time Of The Concert
The minimum time for the concert is about 2 to 3 hours on the schedule, but it can get beyond this time limit due to some extra performances, announcements, meet and greet or some other activities. The first and last event of the Tour is generally longer because of the opening and final versions of the artists.

Even longtime fans of singer Josh Groban could be forgiven some degree of surprise upon seeing the multiple-Grammy nominee in his 2016 Broadway debut Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 , so impressive was his Tony-nominated performance in that splendid, eccentric musical. And those that saw his turn as that production’s bookish, melancholic Russian aristocrat Pierre might just as easily be forgiven still further surprise upon seeing Groban in his latest Broadway endeavor as the mad title character of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street .

Groban is new enough to the Broadway game that he’s capable of coming to the stage from a place that’s somewhere near the polar opposite of blasé. This is a man who has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide and spent decades headlining great venues the world over, yet delights in the stagedoor devotees who giddily ask about his decade-old cameo on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia . Josh Groban takes it all in.
Deadline spoke to Groban in the weeks after his Tony nomination for Best Leading Actor/Musical. He pondered awards of all sorts, and what it means to win and lose them. He addressed the differences between Broadway and concert performing, how Sweeney differs from Comet – and why he still gets asked about Sunny .
This interview has been edited and condensed for length and clarity.
DEADLINE: Was Sweeney a role that you had your heart set on for a while? How did it happen?
I’m sometimes not my own best champion for things that could be great and so my manager actually was the one who asked me at some point before quarantine, before Covid, Have you ever considered maybe thinking about seeing if the rights for Sweeney Todd are available and would you ever consider doing it? And I went, Do you actually think that would be possible? It just always seemed like such an enormous pipe dream that I didn’t actually dream it for myself, my manager had to bring it up.
And so that started the conversation with [producer] Jeffrey Seller and with [director/producer] Tommy Kail, and then we hit lockdown and it gave us a real long time to have some thought about it. So many stars continued to align that it just wound up being one of those miraculous things that can only happen in the theater because theater takes a really long time to get right. I just can’t believe that it’s here and I’m talking to you about it.
DEADLINE: Vocally it’s in your wheelhouse …
GROBAN: It is and it isn’t. There’s a lot about the way Sondheim wrote that is very lyrical, very romantic, very much in line with what my thing is and where my techniques lie, but there’s a lot that I had to learn, to find the character and where the angst and the anger and the rage fits into my technique. And there was a lot that really scared the crap out of me, as far as how I might be able to approach it and whether or not it would be healthy for my voice.
You know, for 25 years I trained to have not a single bit of fringe in my singing, and when I come back to doing theater, whether it was Great Comet or Sweeney Todd , I have to totally adjust and change and rearrange what my technique is so that I can do what the character needs, but with the same kind of health and safety as I would for a concert performance.
As I did with Great Comet, I started with an idea of how I would sing Sweeney in concert, and then I slowly start to build and build and build on what the character voice is. Vocally I’ve learned so much from this show.
DEADLINE: Is there a greater risk to your voice with an eight-performances-a-week production than a concert?
GROBAN: Ask me in September. I think there’s always a risk, but that being said, my voice tells me a lot in real time. I’ve never been one of those singers that, you know, goes out and trashes myself and then wakes up in the morning and goes, wow, what happened? I know my voice tells me what’s happening in real time. It’ll tell me if it’s tired, it tells me if it’s not. I’ve put in my 10,000 hours now to know how to get it in line and how to do it in a healthy way.
So, I guess my quick answer would be that no, I’m not doing anything that would damage my voice because I’ve done every step of this in collaboration with my voice coach and with my voice doctor and voice specialist. We’re looking out for it.
DEADLINE: This musical has always been so linked to its original performers – Len Cariou [as Sweeney], Angela Lansbury [as Mrs. Lovett]. Does that sit on your mind, or are you just focused on your own performance?
DEADLINE: In what ways do you think that what you and Annaleigh are doing is different from the original performers? I have my own idea as an audience member, but I’m curious about what you think from your perspective.
GROBAN: Well, off the top of my head, and I don’t want to speak for Annaleigh because I know she feels very deeply about her journey with the role, but one thing that I can say as somebody who’s playing off of her is that there is very much more a kind of physical desire from Lovett towards Sweeney in this version. We had a lot of fun playing with the idea of their chemistry, the flirtations, her constant trying to get Sweeney out of his shell and into bed, you know. That’s something that’s been made I think a little bit more apparent in this production.
And the fact that I’m certainly not the “type” that people would say is a serial killer or a murderer. I’ve had fun playing with the skepticism out there, playing with the idea that my demeanor and my voice might be a little more unassuming, less monstrous, than what’s expected [of Sweeney]. It plays into the question of who was this boogeyman before he had all these horrible things done to him, and how an everyday small business owner, loving husband and father turns into this monster? That was something that felt very scary to me and allowed me to lean into what I think Sondheim very much did on purpose when he wrote some of his most melodic, romantic, smooth, beautiful melodies for the most murderous moments.
DEADLINE: Well, I was going to say I think this is a much sexier Sweeney , which I guess is a cruder way of saying what you just said more eloquently. There’s a sense of two characters who begin as flirtatious before taking a very, very dark turn.
GROBAN: Absolutely. The betrayal that is the final twist of the knife so to speak becomes even more tragic and Shakespearean if you believe that there actually was a desire between Sweeney and Lovett. Perhaps romantic love meant different things at those points in their lives, but from the very first moment [that Sweeney arrives] Lovett was pining for him, and he realizes that at his very lowest she pulls him out of his deepest despair. As crazy and cartoonishly evil as the musical number “A Little Priest” is, in its own sick way it is something that everybody can connect to, that moment when somebody sees you so completely and at your darkest says, I see you and I’m going to take you to where the light is. That’s a powerful aphrodisiac and I think that to have gotten under Sweeney’s skin that way makes a more interesting tragedy than just having two monsters doing their monster things.
DEADLINE: What do the Tonys and the nominations mean to you, and what were your thoughts when you heard the show might be canceled due to the WGA strike?
DEADLINE: No false modesty needed here – in terms of Broadway leading men, you’re certainly among the actors who can pick and choose what you’d like to do next. Have you given any thought to roles you’d like to play, or how long it might be before your next Broadway show?
GROBAN: It’s very kind of you to ask and I feel very lucky. With Great Comet and Sweeney Todd I have really been two for two with just brilliant works that I have been so lucky to give to audiences. And I also feel two for two as far as the uniqueness of each experience. As far as what would be next, I have until January to think about that. After Great Comet I said to myself Wow, this was really, really challenging and I think I’ll probably do a comedy next. And then Sweeney Todd came and I went, No, put on the helmet, you’re going to go even deeper into the dark place.
After this if I were to come back I’d love to get in on a new work from the ground up because I think we are rich in revivals right now and there’s some incredible new work out there that’s bubbling up, and inspiring, and I’d love to see where that could grow.
DEADLINE: On that note I’ll let you go with one final question: Any possibility of you returning to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia ?
GROBAN: Oh, my gosh. If they call I’m there. I love that show, I love those guys, and of course, you know, me and Dee [the Groban uber-fan character played by Sunny regular Kaitlin Olson] , we have a rich history and relationship. It’s so funny, sometimes at the stage door people will quote from little cameos that I’ve done on television over the years, and you’re reminded of just, like, the power of TV. Something you did for 30 seconds will, in somebody’s mind, completely outweigh 23 years of other things I’ve done. It’s amazing. So, yeah. If Sunny calls, I’m there. Anytime.
