Movie Park Studio Tour

Movie Park Studio Tour is a steel launched enclosed family dark ride roller coaster currently located at Movie Park Germany . The ride replaced the Ice Age Adventure dark ride, reusing its showbuilding.

This ride was first teased in March 2020, being touted as the "biggest birthday present ever" in a cryptic series of videos.

This led up to the ride being revealed as an Intamin Multi Dimensional Coaster in August 2020.

Assembly of the track was completed in late January 2021. [1]

Movie Park Studio Tour opened to the public on 23 June 2021.

The ride features two launches, dark ride elements, and a turntable. Instead of being themed around a specific IP like many of the other rides at Movie Park Germany, the ride is themed more generally to film-making.

Attraction Review: Movie Park Studio Tour

movie studio tour movie park

OK so firstly let me apologise for taking six weeks to getting around to finally writing this but hey, that's how life works unfortunately. So, Movie Park Studio Tour then, the Intamin multi-dimensional coaster and brand new for 2021 attraction to open at my beloved Movie Park Germany in Bottrop. As I wasn't actually expecting to be back at Movie Park as recently as I was, I actually hadn't paid too much attention to Movie Park Studio Tour, to the point where I remember asking as we boarded the trains "wait, who even manufactured this thing?" I really was going in blind, which in my opinion is the best way to do these things as you get a 'purer' reaction to the thing as opposed to one that's tainted with pre-conceptions and biases.

Before I get into this review properly, there's a few things you need to understand about Movie Park and their rides first. The first is that even with their newer attractions like Star Trek and Van Helsing's Factory (new for me means built in the last decade), everything had a slightly 'retro' feel. For me, their attractions are how theme park enthusiasts would build movie themed rides on a budget, there's just something really wholesome and home-grown about everything they create, even things that have large IPs attached. It kind of feels like really good cosplay - you know the standard is excellent but you can also tell there's something slightly unofficial feeling about it that you can't quite put your finger on.

movie studio tour movie park

The second thing you need to know is that they're batshit crazy. It's the reason I love the place so much, if you go in blind to any of their attractions there's no way you're ever going to accurately predict everything they will throw at you because it's all so bloody out of the box. And it's for this reason I was particularly excited to ride Movie Park Studio Tour, even though I knew little to nothing about it. And consider this your warning - there will be spoilers ahead!

Built upon the location of what was an Ice Age themed boat ride the first time I went to the park and a Wrong Turn themed horror maze the last time I visited, Movie Park Studio Tour takes the idea of multi-dimensional and runs with it. This is not a ride that is all about the coaster elements, nor is it all about the theming. It's about as close to a perfectly balanced themed coaster one can get. It's the perfect 'flagship' attraction for the park, we literally get to, to nick Universal Studios' old slogan, ride the movies, and it's a blast from start to finish.

The setup is exactly what you would expect it might be - a big movie director is creating his newest feature film and we get to have starring roles! What is the storyline of the film? Who knows! Why are we on a rollercoaster train? Who cares! We board the train in a typical 'Hollywood' themed station with classic Hollywood iconography and begin on a tour backstage through the studios, and proceed to make stops on various film sets including: a disaster movie set where a tornado blows the roof off a house and we're launched backwards, a close-up monster movie set where we come face to face with definitely-not-Kong, get lost in a prop closet that included some sneakily hidden Gremlins props as a throwback to the old dark ride, and my favourite part, a Fast & Furious style racing movie where we race sports cars out of the studio building in a fun little launch.

movie studio tour movie park

And that word 'fun' is optimal here - the whole thing is fun. Fun, fun, fun. It is the PERFECT family attraction for Movie Park Germany that showcases their brand expertly. The coaster itself isn't big and scary like maybe Star Trek would be for younger riders, but the backwards sections and launches ensure it isn't dull either. The many show scenes add an extra layer of excitement to an already fun experience and there's a bunch of great movie easter eggs for film nerds like me to get excited about. My one beef was that we were maybe going just a tiny bit too fast in the not-Kong scene to really appreciate the scale and detail of the set, but that's me really digging for something 'negative' to say.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! So, remember I said I had no idea about anything this ride really did? OK so, a lot of the effects are screen-based. The pre-show is a recording, the visuals we see in the queueline corridors are screens and a fair few of the big show scene effects are screen based. They're blended well though and whilst yes, we would all prefer less screens, that would mean Movie Park Germany wouldn't have been able to change the entire attraction to a horror theme for their Halloween Festival . Yes, you read that right. After dark, the team take about 20 minutes to switch all of the screens over to a spooky overlay and fill the queueline with horror actors. What...the hell?!

movie studio tour movie park

Where once we were blown away by a tornado, we were now escaping from a hoard of zombies. The wholesome clacker board mascot has now turned into a ravenous beast who...from what I can gather decapitates the director?! This is Europe remember so they don't shy away from madness like this. The corridor screens from earlier were now showcasing extremely grisly and gory scenes of bodies in various states of...disrepair and we even see another train of riders being savaged by zombies. The whole thing is absolutely mad, completely unexpected and like nothing I've ever seen in a theme park before. It was really excellent and a great example of 'little' things Movie Park Germany do with their attractions to give them that bit of elevation beyond your average regional theme park.

So, is Movie Park Studio Tour the hottest new coaster in Europe? No. Is it totally fun and a fantastic addition to the park both from attraction line-up and an iconic branded ride experience perspective? Absolutely. It's completely nuts in a way only Movie Park Germany can pull off and I would love to see more parks follow suit with multi-dimensional attractions that can be adapted for different content/seasonal overlays.

Have you ridden Movie Park Studio Tour? What did you think? Did you know about the horror version of the ride? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to have a chat!

Talk later xoxo,

Great review! I also enjoyed this ride a lot - It is a well-themed, fun experience for the whole family. Also tried the "horror version" of this ride which is also great. I think it's fascinating how quick and easily the experience of this attraction can be changed completely! There should be more attractions like this. Greetings from Germany

Highlighting Themed Experiences

Movie Park Germany Opens Studio Tour Roller Coaster

Movie Park Germany has opened a new Hollywood-themed roller coaster, Movie Park Studio Tour. The ride is a hybrid between a dark ride and a roller coaster. It travels through 12 different Hollywood scenes and goes forward and in reverse.

The highlight of the ride is when the coaster gets caught in a tornado and goes flying in reverse.

Here’s a ride video posted by Ride Reviews on YouTube:

The coaster is a Multi Dimension Coaster created by Intamin Amusement Rides . The ride’s theming, sets, and animatronics were created by P&P Projects . Preproduction work, including the storyboard and 3D designs, were completed by the Leisure Expert Group .

The ride includes wind, smells, animations, and visual effects. It took two years to design and build. The soundtrack for the ride was created by IMAscore .

The park says that Movie Park Studio Tour is Europe’s first multi-directional roller coaster and first coaster to accelerate backward.

“The world of Hollywood is incredibly diverse and appeals to a wide audience,” says Manuel Prossotowicz, Creative Project Manager and Director Brand Development. “That is why we have integrated different film genres and topics into the ride. From action flicks to disaster films to entertaining behind-the-scenes looks at a movie production, everything is included.”

The ride occupies the building that used to house Ice Age Adventure and the Wrong Turn haunted house maze. Movie Park Germany is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The park contains 40 attractions.

All Aboard the Movie Park Studio Tour!

The Movie Park Studio Tour is a brand new attraction to Movie Park Germany as a coaster and a dark ride combine for a tour around a lively movie studio.

Movie Park Studio Tour

As Movie Park Germany approached their 25th anniversary they wanted to celebrate with a brand new signature family attraction.

The ride pays homage to the classic studio tours that are offered by such studios as Universal Studios, Warner Brothers and Paramount Pictures in Hollywood, California.

But combined with a coaster element this makes the Movie Park Studio Tour a must-visit attraction in its own right despite it not being a real working movie studio like the aforementioned.

The ride takes guests on a journey through various movie sets as they witness movie magic right before their very eyes. From storms to car chases this multi-dimensional SFX coaster from Intamin is one impressive bit of design work.

Movie Park Germany Studio Tour Set

With help from the Leisure Expert Group (who also worked on Tornado Springs at Paultons Park) the theming is absolutely wonderful and makes for the perfect addition to this movie-themed theme park.

The decors were constructed by P&P Projects and the media production is executed by IMAscore & IMAmotion who are the team behind the Alton Towers soundtrack.

The Movie Park Studio Tour Experience

Intamin Movie Park Studio Tour

The main story revolves around a big movie director that is creating his latest feature film and the guests are the main stars.

There’s no story as such beyond that other than the whirlwind experience of the fast-moving industry that is filmmaking.

The tour begins backstage before you are inside a tornado movie, then you’re on a monster movie set and then you’re on a Fast and Furious racetrack as you zoom out of the show building and into some outside coaster track before quickly returning back into the building for more fun.

There are many easter eggs dotted around the ride for film nerds to enjoy and lots of really well crafted and detailed props to admire giving this ride certified re-rideability factor.

Whilst many of the effects within the ride are screen-based they’re well blended with the environment.

Even better is that the ride can be changed to a horror theme for their very own Halloween festival as the screens can all be changed to a new storyline and actors road the queue line. Perfection.

Tornados are replaced with zombies and numerous beasts lurk the corridors.

Enough of me talking about it though come and take a look at a normal run-through (not Halloween) of Movie Park Studio Tour at Movie Park Germany.

The Nerdy Stuff

Movie Park Studios Germany

For those of you wanting to know the more nerdy details of the ride, here they are!

This multidimensional launch coaster combines a coaster and a heavily themed park ride.

It’s Europe’s first double launched indoor coaster with one backwards-launch section that features a state-of-the-art 360° turntable, a high-speed track switch and several special track features.

The ride can reach speeds up to 60 km/h and consists of a track length of 532 metres. The studio building is 3,800 square metres and consists of 12 scenes and an outdoor section.

Each train can seat 12 passengers and the ride consists of an onboard audio system guiding guests through the experience.

Movie Park Studio Tour – September 2021

Let’s get the camera rolling cause we visited Movie Park Germany this month! We couldn’t resist visiting to experience their brand new rollercoaster: Movie Park Studio Tour . A special launched family coaster which offers both a dark ride and a coaster. Next to that, I guided our European Coaster Kings members Alex from Spain and James from the UK during their first visit to the park. Want to know the tips? Continue reading!

– In the past, many of our images have been posted, featured, and shared on forums, social media platforms and websites around the web. We work hard to provide the coverage that we do, and we encourage our audience to share our content and use our images, BUT ONLY IF proper credit is given to  thecoasterkings.com . Thank you! –

First tip for this park is to try and plan a visit during the week in September. We had almost no queues at all the rides which adds great value to a theme park day. The day started of a bit grey but then the sun came out and heated up things even more. Thanks to the parks t-structure, you best visit one of the furthest regions to start with. After a selfie at the entrance of course!

movie studio tour movie park

Following our own advice, we started with the brand new rollercoaster. You can find it in the far right corner of the park next to the rapid river and the Stratosphere flat ride. The former Ice Age/ Looney Tunes dark ride got a complete transformation into this unique experience in honor of the 25th birthday of the park: Movie Park Studio Tour!

movie studio tour movie park

You enter the lobby of a kind of theater (notice the posters!) where you wait a little bit more to enter the preshow area. Here they tell you to prepare yourself with director Thrillberg for a shooting day on set. You’ll appear in three different movies, how exciting!

movie studio tour movie park

Sure enough you advance in a gallery queue with displays full of concepts for movies, former rides and much more. Basically a museum of easter eggs for you to discover. Which ones can you spot?

movie studio tour movie park

Then it’s boarding time after placing your luggage in one of several compartments. Cleverly, you’re able to grab your belongings on the back side outside of the station. This avoids the typical station congestions. Time to ride towards the first set which has a very Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz kind of vibe. A tornado rips open a house after which you fly backwards. You then (literally) turn back forwards for a short visit outside. Beware as the themed water tower can actually make you wet!

movie studio tour movie park

Next up is an action packed movie with motorbikes through which you ride quickly. It doesn’t stop there as you immediately pass to the next set with one of the main themed elements: King Kong! So yeah, even though you can’t ride Hollywood Tour at Phantasialand at the moment, the finales look pretty similar (except for a much more modern version).

movie studio tour movie park

And that’s it! The film got completed and you enter the waiting area before the station, again filled with plenty of Easter eggs. Overall, Movie Park Studio Tour is a family experience will definitely please kids but don’t expect any major thrilling elements. The quality looks pretty decent for this size of park so as a whole they did a great job adding this ride! Not sure if I get the story all that well after riding it a few times…

movie studio tour movie park

Intamin shows quite the different side again by offering this kind of coaster. However, it has competition of another fan favorite family coaster in the park: Van Helsing’s Factory . Both feel very different, yet Van Helsing still holds the crown as the best family ride in the park.

movie studio tour movie park

The other side of the park holds the more thrilling coaster collection with Star Trek: Operation Enterprise as the star attraction. Although not every Coaster Kings member was wowed by the ride, it remains a special little coaster for me. Especially backseat, the ride kept me really entertained from start to finish.

movie studio tour movie park

The other two coasters in the back, well, they are what they are. Bandit ran okay when not sitting on the wheels but it was kind of bland. You don’t feel many forces while riding except for a bit of shaking and whipping.

movie studio tour movie park

As for MP Express , which hasn’t had its Lucky Luke transformation yet except for the paint job of the track, it’s an SLC. Not the worst one out there, but still true to the type’s reputation.

movie studio tour movie park

Overall, due to low crowds and sunny weather, we had the best theme park day you can imagine. The park has some iconic rides and also at the entrance/exit, we really enjoyed our ride on Area 51 . The unique spillwater / darkride certainly entertained our group!

movie studio tour movie park

Before going home, we took a stroll through the different shops in the mainstream area. After buying merchandise for Sean and Alex, I decided to make a picture to show off their purchases. Never thought I would ever be photobombed by Spongebob and Patrick Star!

movie studio tour movie park

Overall, thanks to no crowds and awesome weather, we had the best theme park day you can imagine. The park delivers up to the expectations that you can have from a park this size. A lot has changed in those 25 years but they paid tribute to that history with their newest ride. We can’t wait to see what the next 25 will bring!

Toei Kyoto Studio Park

Film your own samurai action scene at this movie studio park in Kyoto

Your dream of becoming a Japanese warrior – or a movie star – can now come true at Toei Kyoto Studio Park

Kaila Imada

Samurai and ninja experiences are starting to become popular activities for visitors to Japan, with places like Tokyo’s immersive samurai museum opening doors to this enticing world of ancient warriors.

Toei Kyoto Studio Park

But if just wearing some armour and swinging a sword indoors isn’t enough to satisfy, you can take things one step further at Toei Kyoto Studio Park . This theme park and film set is where you can enjoy a sword-fighting experience in a traditional Edo-period (1603-1867) setting all while being filmed like an action movie star.

Toei Kyoto Studio Park

In the park’s katana sword-fighting experience, you'll get to battle it out on a set designed like an ancient Japanese town and learn moves from professional sword-fighting instructors. Some of the moves you'll learn include bowing properly, drawing and sheathing the sword, and making horizontal cuts and bamboo strikes.

Toei Kyoto Studio Park

To make the experience all the more authentic, you'll also get to dress up in appropriate costumes to get into the Edo-era mood. There's a total of five outfits to pick from: samurai, ninja, Ryoma Sakamoto (a famous Japanese samurai), guardsman and furisode wakashu (long-sleeved kimono usually worn by young men).

Toei Kyoto Studio Park

Once you’ve got the moves down and are dressed up, the battle will take place and be filmed, so you can watch it after and save it as a fun memento of your experience. Additionally, the experience includes a photo shoot where you can snap shots around the atmospheric set.

Toei Kyoto Studio Park

The experience is completely English-friendly and takes a total of 90 minutes. Unfortunately, it is not available year-round and is only offered until June 2. There are currently seven time slots available per day, from 9am to 3pm, with prices starting at ¥10,000 for children (must be over 5 years old and taller than 110cm) and ¥11,200 for adults.

Moscow Metro

Introduction of moscow subway system (metro).

Richly Decorated Central Hall of Novokuznetskaya Station

Nowadays the Moscow Metro has 12 lines, light subway and monorail. All stations are unique and beautiful in their own way. Unfortunately, in order to visit them all, you need to spend many days. I invite guests to visit the ones that have the greatest cultural and historical interest from my point of view. Among them are the Revolution Square, Arbatskaya, Kievskaya (Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line № 3); Kievskaya, Belarusskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Komsomolskaya (the Ring line number 5). Let us dwell a bit on each.

Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line

Subway station "revolution square".

Sign “Ploshchad Revolyutsii” in Archway with Bronze Figures

Most recently - in the year 2008-2010 – the Eastern lobby was renovated. Because of the terrorist attacks in the Moscow subway that took place several hours before the planned opening of the East lobby after renovation, the solemn part of the event was canceled.

Subway station Arbatskaya

Subway Arbatskaya is located on the same subway line as the station "Revolution Square." It was founded in 1953. It received the name in honor of the Arbat Street. It has one ground lobby (Western). Initially, the lobby was in a separate building, but the new building of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense started, the lobby appeared to be in its atrium. The old exits were bricked up; a new entrance was built into the building of General Staff of the street Vozdvizhenka. There is a huge frame with a missing portrait in the ground lobby - until mid-1950 there was a portrait of Stalin. According to some reports, it survived, but closed with plaster.

The lobby was restored and partially reconstructed in 2007-2008.

The depth of the station is 41 meters.

Pylons are finished with red marble at the bottom, decorated with bouquets of flowers made from ceramics. The floor is laid out with gray granite. The walls lined with glazed ceramic tiles, white top and black bottom. The station hall is illuminated by massive bronze chandeliers in the form of rings.

Subway station Kievskaya

There are several subway stations "Kievskaya" in Moscow, located on different branches. This name is quite popular. It comes from the capital of Ukraine - one of Russia's nearest neighbors - the city of Kiev. The name is fully consistent with the idea of the subway station. The interior the station devoted to Soviet Ukraine and the reunification of Ukraine and Russia. The station is decorated with a large number of paintings .Twenty four murals depicting workers of Soviet Ukraine are placed on the arch above the pylons. The wall from the side of platform also contains frescos, mainly with images of fantastic plants. Pylons are decorated with light marble and additionally decorated with colorful ceramic cornice. The butt of the station has a large mosaic, depicting festivities to celebrate the 300 anniversary of the reunification of Ukraine and Russia.

Opened in 1953, this subway station for a long time was the final (1953-2003).

The station has one lobby, combined with the station ring line and located in the building of the Kievskaya railway station. The diameter of the central hall station is 9.5 m, the diameter of side one is 8.5 m. The depth of the station is 38 meters.

= Ring Line Subway =

It opened in 1954. The station received its name after the Kiev station, and locked the Ring line. During the construction of the station many projects were proposed, but the victory in the competition won the Kiev architects who made the construction of the station. It is the only station of the Ring Line which is not located in the Central Administrative District of Moscow.

The station has a pylon structure. Eighteen pylons are decorated with mosaic panels of glazes, decorated on the theme of Ukrainian history and friendship between the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, which started in the mid-17 century.

On the front wall of the central hall of the station a large panel with molding in the form of flags and a mosaic portrait of Lenin in the center are located. There are lines of the Soviet national anthem around the portrait, and under the portrait - the words of Lenin. One of the ways out of the station was designed by French architects modeled on the Paris Subway in 2006.

At one of the mosaics – “The Struggle for Soviet power in Ukraine "- modern passengers observe a mobile phone and PDA in the hand of one of the guerrillas, and on his knees - a laptop. In fact, he uses a field telephone, which was really a heavy thing (guerrillas holds it in two hands), and thing that people see a laptop is the lid of a box with a telephone. However, these phones have begun to produce only in the second half of the 20-ies of XX century. We must assume that the mosaic depicts a foreign field telephone transmitter.

Subway station Belorusskaya

The founded of the station was in 1952. It received the name after the Belarusian railway station nearby. The station has two ground-based lobbies. The Western one goes to Tverskaya  Zastava. It is decorated with beautiful carvings. The Eastern one leads to Butyrskiy shaft and Forest Street. The Eastern lobby is known for its majolica panels.

The station Belorusskaya is located at a depth of 42.5 m below ground. The diameter of the central hall is 9.5 meters.

Pylons are faced with light marble. The walls lined with white ceramic tiles, the floor is covered with ceramic tiles, gray, white and red colors. Lamps placed on pylons, in the form of vases made of glass and marble. The theme of decoration is economy and culture of Belarus. Decorative pattern on the floor repeats the theme of traditional Belarusian embroidery. Decorations of the ceiling consist of stucco decorations and 12 mosaic panels depicting the life of the Belarusian people.

Subway station Novoslobodskaya

Built in 1952, Subway station Novoslobodskaya got its name from the eponymous street:  the station is located at the very beginning of it.

Novoslobodskaya is pylon station of deep foundation (its depth is 40 m) with three arches.

Exit to the street is through the ground lobby with column portico, located on Novoslobodskaya Street lined with gray marble. Pylons of the underground station are faced with marble from the Urals. Thirty two spectacularly illuminated stained-glasses, placed inside the pylon and bordered by steel and gilt brass are splendid decoration of the station. A remarkable mosaic "World Peace" is located at the end of the central hall. The picture depicts a happy mother with a baby in her arms; it was the face of Stalin at the picture: the child gave a hand to him. But in times of Khrushchev the face of the former leader of USSR was removed from the panel. The walls are lined with bright marble; floor is covered with white and black granite slabs, placed in a checkerboard pattern.

Subway station Komsomolskaya

The station was built in 1952 and named in honor of the Komsomolskaya Square, which is situated nearby.

This subway station is the station of the deep bedding. Its depth is 37 meters. The station has column and three- arched design. Cast iron decoration is used in the construction, monolithic slab used as a tray for a collapsible finishing. The length of the boarding hall is 190 meters; width of it is 10 meters. There are 68 octagonal columns at station.

The main theme of the interior of the station is the fighting of the Russian people for their independence. The ceiling is decorated with eight station mosaic mural made from glazes and precious stones. Six of them represent the Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, Alexander Suvorov and Mikhail Kutuzov, the Soviet soldiers and officers at the walls of the Reichstag.

Two other panels, depicting Stalin ("Victory Parade" and "Presentation of the Guards Banner"), were replaced after the dethronement of Stalin's personality cult in 1963. New panels depict Lenin's speech in front of the Red Guards and the Motherland on the background of the Kremlin's Spasskaya Tower.

The yellow ceiling is decorated with mosaic and moldings. The hall is illuminated by massive chandeliers hanging between the panels; platforms are illuminated with smaller chandeliers. The columns are decorated with marble capitals and trimmed with light marble, as well as the wall station. The floor is laid with pink granite. There is a bust of Lenin at the end of the hall. At the opposite end of the escalator is a large Florentine mosaic of the Order of Victory with red banners on the background. The ground lobby of the station is decorated with bas-reliefs.

In conclusion...

Each of the stations of the Moscow subway is attractive and interesting in its own way. Each has its own long and fascinating history and is beautifully decorated. The Moscow subway is a whole world, which can be talking about for hours. I suggest you short - no more than one hour and a half - and a fascinating journey through the world of the Moscow subway. The pleasure is guaranteed!
